Museum Night: art in the moonlight

The Barcelona moon bears witness to thousands of magical nights. • "Absolutely worth it" - by Steven We decided to go on a tour with BCN travel instead of a normal airport transfer to our cruise. That was absolutely worth it. We spent the same for their transfer including a 2 hour city tour as we would have payed for the normal transfer with our travel agency here. Thanks again guys for the great tour in the short time, next time we will go for a longer one. 5 6 years ago

Hola BCN: Barcelona Tourist Travel Card from €16.62 (+Airport)

hola bcn unlimited transport card barcelona

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a cheap Barcelona travel pass  that gave you unlimited transport?

That way, we’d avoid the single-ticket pitfalls of fumbling for change, worrying about time validity, and mumbling through some basic 9th-grade Spanish.

It’d also be nice if this tourist travel pass had the potential to save us money.

That brings us to the Hola Barcelona Card (formerly the Hola BCN).

Why Get an Hola Barcelona Travel Card

An all-inclusive transport card   with unlimited rides makes your holiday run like a clock.

Tourists have been buying Hola Barcelona Card (previously the Hola BCN Travel Card) for years because:

  • You get  unlimited public transport  on the metro, bus, tram, and funicular .
  • There’s  return Barcelona airport   transport via airport train, metro, or bus 46.
  • There’s  easy pickup at Barcelona Turisme kiosks.
  • It   eliminates the stress   of constantly buying tickets.
  • It’s cheap.

Remember: if you have any questions about Barcelona transport options , like how to get to any of the city’s top attractions from your holiday apartment write me in the comments below.

What Does this Barcelona Tourist Travel Pass Include?

Your super-handy Barcelona travel card will include  unlimited journeys in zone one on:

  • Overland trains (including the R2 from El Prat Airport to central Barcelona).
  • The metro (all lines including the L9 from Barcelona airport, a €9.00 value).
  • All TMB buses.
  • The Montjuic Funicular (careful! This is not the Montjuic Teleferic).

Some of you might be asking what exactly is zone one?

The simple answer is it’s the entire city centre and all suburban areas. Unlike bigger cities like New York and London, the area of zone one is the entire reach of the metro system.

This essentially encompasses all of the main tourist attractions in Barcelona .

Hola Barcelona Travel Pass Prices 2024

Strike-through prices are offline prices, so it’s best to book online with the 5% discount.

The price of a single ticket in Barcelona has increased to €2.55 in 2024, so your break-even point on the 48-hour pass is three uses a day – a virtual guarantee when visiting the city.

Here are the multi-day ticket prices:

These prices apply to everybody (including students, 65+ etc.) – only children under 4 ride free .

As you can see, buying this Barcelona transport pass online means you’ll spend just around €7.00 a day  for unlimited travel on public transport plus your connection from the airport to Barcelona city centre .

Keep in mind that the return metro service from Barcelona airport alone costs €10.30!

Tack on the Aerobus for the Ultimate Tourist Transport Pass

Looking to throw in the best airport transport on top?

Thanks to Tiqets, you now have the option to package a one-way or return ticket on the Aerobus (up to a €13.20 value) with the Hola Barcelona Card – you can book the Barcelona Transport Pass by clicking the button below:

Where Can I Buy a Hola BCN Travel Pass?

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card is available via Barcelona Turisme, the official tourism board of the city.

Here you’ll earn me a small commission (at no extra cost to you) to cover server costs and the effort/time I put in… if you want to help, please click the button below:

It is very much appreciated! 🙂

Travel Pass Validity & Restrictions

Your Hola Barcelona Travel Card is activated the first time you use it.

This means if you have a 72-hour tourist travel card and take your first public transport trip at noon on January 1st, you’ll have until noon on January 4th to ride as many journeys as you want.

Night Buses and the Hola Barcelona Card

Unfortunately, the Hola Barcelona Card is not valid for night buses since a private company operates them.

To use night buses, you can pay the bus driver €2.40 for a single ticket   using cash.

Keep in mind that from Sunday to Thursday, the metro closes between 00:00 and 05:00 and between 02:00 and 05:00 on Friday.

On Saturday night (to be clear, the night between Saturday and Sunday), the metro is open all night!

If you’re looking for a big club night, make it Saturday unless you’re rich enough for a Barcelona taxi .

Why Not Another Discount Card?

The barcelona card.

The good thing about this discount Barcelona travel pass is that it costs much less than its sister the Barcelona Card , which is more aimed at people looking to get lots of Barcelona attraction tickets in addition to getting unlimited transport.

If I’ve confused you a little make sure to check out my page comparing the two tourist travel cards .

The Barcelona Pass

The popular Barcelona Pass is a great option because it gets you into mega-attractions La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell , and a one or two-day pass on the Bus Turistic .

You’ll also get 10% off your Hola Barcelona Card plus 10% discounts on virtually anything you can do in Barcelona from flamenco to Camp Nou .

Deciding Which Barcelona Travel Pass to Get

If you’re sure you want to see a lot of attractions, you may be better off going for the Barcelona Card or the Barcelona Pass – but as far as a straight-up travel card goes, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is the cheapest and most efficient.

Still a bit confused about which discount pass to get? Make sure you write me in the comments below with a list of things you’d like to see and a budget, and I’ll do my best to help out 🙂

Hola Barcelona Travel Card Zones

If you’re staying a bit outside the city centre, here’s a list of nearby municipalities included in zone one:

All of these communities can be reached by train using the Hola Barcelona Card.

What to look for in a Travel Management Company?

Finding the right Travel Management Company (TMC) to partner with your organization requires strategic planning, a methodical process and involvement from the right travel stakeholders.

Travel buyers are responsible for how an organization uses travel and meetings to help achieve their broader goals. Partnering with the right TMC leads to improved safety, productivity and wellbeing for business travelers and streamlined processes and cost savings for your organization.

The TMC should demonstrate broad experience in managing travel for organizations like yours. Identify the specific services you need from them, such as ability to connect travel program strategy to company mission and purpose, sector experience, hotel program expertise, sustainability, travel policy compliance, risk management, or a defined approach to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I).

Our Top Picks for Best Places to Travel Solo

  • Barcelona, Spain: Best for first-time solo travelers
  • Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: Best for solo backpacking
  • Montreal, Canada: Best for solo female travelers
  • Chicago, Illinois: Best for going on solo travel tours
  • Ljubljana, Slovenia: Best budget solo travel destination

Best Places to Travel Solo Reviews

Best for first-time solo travelers: barcelona, spain.

  • Offers many travel experiences in a single city
  • Easy to get around town without a car
  • Year-round good weather means you can visit in any season
  • More expensive than other options on our list
  • Can get very busy during popular travel times

Why we chose it : Barcelona is a beautiful and historic European city with something for everyone to enjoy. It boasts stunning gothic architecture, sandy beaches, a bustling nightlife and prices that will help you stretch your budget.

Spain is considerably affordable compared to other European countries, and Barcelona is its crown jewel. The city has roots tracing back to the end of the 1st century BCE and beautiful architecture throughout its winding streets, such as Gaudí’s Casa Batlló and his world-famous unfinished church, La Sagrada Familia.

If you tire of exploring Barcelona’s impressive history, gorgeous Barceloneta Beach is just a few minutes away from the city center. And at night, you’ll find plenty of entertainment options, from rooftop bars and clubs to concert venues and flamenco shows.

Barcelona is excellent for first-time solo travelers because its compact layout, wide sidewalks and excellent public transportation makes getting around town without a car a breeze. U.S. travelers can also visit for up to 90 days without a visa . However, Barcelona is more expensive than other options on our list and can be very busy during popular travel times.

Best for solo backpacking: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

  • Very affordable accommodations, food and attractions
  • Is easy to navigate, with a developed transportation system
  • Has a vibrant expat community
  • U.S. citizens need a tourist visa to visit Vietnam

Why we chose it : Ho Chi Minh City is a bustling and affordable city that offers a wide range of attractions for solo travelers, from inexpensive food and accommodations to an abundance of cultural and historical sites.

Visiting Ho Chi Minh City has become something of a bucket-list item for many backpackers. Its vibrant culture, friendly people and amazing food attract millions of tourists annually. And it’s also one of Vietnam’s safest cities .

Try some of the mouth-watering street food available in pretty much every corner of the city (especially Districts 1, 3 and 5), do some shopping at the Ben Thanh Market, visit the Notre Dame Cathedral or book a tour of the Mekong Delta to learn more about the local flora and fauna.

Getting around is also pretty easy, with many transportation options, from the new metro to buses, taxis and motorbikes. However, one thing to keep in mind is that U.S. citizens need to apply for a Visa before they can be granted entry into Vietnam.

Best for solo female travelers: Montreal, Canada

  • Very safe and walkable city
  • Visitors can stay for up to six months without a Visa
  • Toronto is only five hours away by direct train
  • Not a great option for budget travelers
  • The winter weather can be harsh

Why we chose it : Montreal is one of the safest cities in Canada, and it is only a short flight away for travelers from the U.S. The city has a vibrant art scene, a diverse population and plenty of old-world charm with its mix of classic and modern architecture.

Traveling solo as a woman might cause your loved ones some anxiety. But Montreal is a great place for women to travel alone. The city is safe and offers much to do, from beautiful architecture, such as Notre-Dame Basilica, to artisanal shopping in Old Montreal. And while the population is predominantly French-speaking, many residents also speak English, so you should have no problem communicating.

Visitors from the United States can stay in Montreal for up to six months without a visa. It’s also a good point of departure for exploring the rest of Canada. Trains depart for Toronto several times a day, and the trip is about five hours.

Accommodations in Montreal can be more expensive than in other international destinations, but enrolling in the best hotel rewards programs may help.

Best for going on solo travel tours: Chicago, Illinois

  • You can find many different types of guided tours
  • Has an excellent public transportation system
  • One of the best culinary destinations in the U.S.
  • Weather can be unpleasant if you visit at the wrong time

Why we chose it : Chicago is home to some of the best travel tours in the country. From river cruises to walking food and drink excursions, you’ll have no problem filling your time in the Windy City.

Chicago is one of the best places to travel in the U.S. It’s home to a wide variety of guided tours, covering everything from the city’s mob history to its architecture and natural landmarks. And if you love Chicago dogs or deep-dish pizza, you can take a walking food tour to enjoy some of the city’s best restaurants in a single day.

Chicago is also home to inspiring architecture, such as Willis Tower and Cloud Gate in Millennium Park. The city is a more affordable place to visit than other U.S. cities of its size, including San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. And if you visit in summer, you’ll have perfect weather for relaxing on the beaches of Lake Michigan, located in the heart of the city.

Depending on what you’re looking for, visiting the city between May and October could be your best bet, as winters can be very cold, with average temperatures ranging between 22 F and 37 F.

Best budget solo travel destination: Ljubljana, Slovenia

  • A highly affordable travel destination
  • Easy entrance requirements for U.S. citizens
  • Classic European architecture and dining options
  • Plenty of green spaces to lounge and relax
  • Doesn't have a strong nightlife culture
  • Crowds can be overwhelming during peak travel seasons

Why we chose it : Slovenia is one of the most affordable European countries, and Ljubljana is one of the country’s most beautiful destinations. It’s home to classic European cobblestone streets and its stunning architecture and exhibits can keep you busy for weeks without breaking your budget.

Ljubljana is an affordable European destination with beautiful green spaces and incredible architecture, including the Ljubljana Castle and the Robba Fountain. It’s also highly walkable and pedestrian-friendly, as car traffic is banned in the city center.

Hotels are cheaper here than in more popular destinations such as France or Italy, which is a big reason why Ljubljana is one of the best international places to travel . There are also many great affordable restaurants and open-air cafes.

U.S. citizens can remain in Slovenia for up to 90 days without a visa, making it easy to extend their stay with the money they save.

However, Ljubljana is not known for its nightlife, as many bars close earlier than elsewhere in Europe. Plus, it has become more popular in recent years, and crowds are abundant during peak seasons, especially the summer.

Other places to travel solo we considered

We compiled our list of the best places to travel alone by evaluating global destinations based on safety, affordability, cultural and historical sites and convenience, among other factors.

Although the following destinations didn’t make it into our top list, they’re still worth considering as you plan your travels.

Reykjavik, Iceland

  • Close to beautiful natural landmarks
  • It's possible to see the Northern Lights when conditions allow
  • Home to many museums and several Michelin-starred restaurants
  • More expensive than other popular travel destinations
  • The region's weather can be bleak
  • Long periods of darkness and sunlight can interfere with your sleep schedule

Reykjavik is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with stunning mountains and beaches everywhere you look. However, it’s an expensive destination and experiences prolonged periods of darkness and sunlight that may be difficult to adjust to.

  • Some of the best food in South America
  • Miles of beautiful coastline to explore
  • Friendly locals - many of whom speak at least some English
  • Travelers can suffer from altitude sickness in some popular attractions
  • The city is sprawling, which can increase travel times and make traffic worse

Lima is a beautiful South American destination with picturesque beaches and affordable accommodations. It’s also a foodie’s dream, with a wide variety of tasty local and international restaurants available at budget-friendly prices.

Just remember that traffic congestions are common and can make it hard to get around. Additionally, some travelers may experience altitude sickness in high-altitude locations like Cusco and Machu Picchu.

Knoxville, Tennessee

  • Has beautiful outdoor settings
  • Minimal traffic
  • Moderate prices for accommodations
  • There isn't as much to do in Knoxville as in other travel destinations
  • Public transportation options are limited

Knoxville is the third-largest city in Tennessee, but it maintains a small-town feel. It’s home to beautiful attractions, such as the Great Smoky Mountains and the World’s Fair Park, and has enough cultural exhibits and museums to keep you busy.

Nevertheless, there isn’t quite as much to do here as in other cities, and public transportation is comparatively limited.

Places to Travel Solo Guide

Traveling alone can be intimidating, but a little preparation can go a long way. This guide covers some of the best travel tips to help you plan your next solo trip.

Why travel solo?

As with everything, there are pros and cons to traveling alone.

Some of the benefits of solo travel include:

  • The ability to plan trips according to your schedule
  • Paying less for dining and experiences
  • Stepping out of your comfort zone and getting to know yourself better
  • Having more time to reflect and relax in peace

Of course, to enjoy your solo vacation to the fullest, practice general safety precautions. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, do some proper research before visiting new places and consider hiring a guide if you’re doing outdoor activities in remote locations.

How to travel alone

Traveling alone can be a wonderful experience. But it often requires more planning and initiative than group trips. The following tips for traveling alone should help you make the most of your next solo trip.

Research your travel destination extensively

The more research you do before visiting a destination, the more prepared you will be to enjoy it. Pay close attention to the following:

  • Climate : Be aware of the weather conditions at your destination to avoid potential hazards, pack the right gear and plan appropriate activities.
  • Top attractions : Plan your itinerary by mapping out the attractions you want to visit and checking their distance from your accommodations. This will help you create a realistic schedule and determine if you need to book transportation for any day trips.
  • Cost : Consider the average cost of accommodations, meals and attractions to create a realistic budget.
  • Public transportation : This is an important consideration, as visiting a destination with insufficient or unreliable public transportation translates into additional expenses.
  • Language barrier : Consider downloading translation apps or learning basic phrases in your destination’s native language if English isn’t widely spoken there.
  • Food : If you have any dietary restrictions, check the availability of suitable food options at your destination and plan your meals.

Stay connected with your friends and family

When traveling alone, keep your loved ones informed of where you’ll be and what you’ll be doing. That way, your family can call for help if they don’t hear back from you in a reasonable timeframe.

Depending on your destination, you may consider purchasing an international SIM card or an international phone plan with your existing carrier to text and call your people back home.

Finally, you can register your trip with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) through the U.S. State Department. STEP is a free service that allows you to receive automatic safety and travel updates from the U.S. embassy in the country you’re visiting. It also makes it easier for friends and family to reach you in an emergency.

Consider travel insurance

If you’ve spent quite a bit of money on non-refundable travel expenses and it hasn’t been that long since you made your initial trip deposit, consider travel insurance to safeguard your investment. A travel insurance policy can help you recoup a portion of pre-paid travel expenses if you cancel or interrupt your trip for a covered reason.

Travel medical insurance could also be worthwhile if you’re going on an extended trip, as it would cover some of your medical expenses in an emergency, including medical evacuation and repatriation. And some plans even include additional services like language support, which could be helpful if English isn’t widely spoken where you’re visiting.

If this sounds like something you’re interested in, check out our guide to the best travel insurance companies .

Try new things

Now that we’ve covered some of the most important things to do before leaving for a solo trip, let’s explore how to get as much enjoyment out of your travels as possible while you’re there. The best advice we can give you is to get out of your comfort zone and try new things.

If you genuinely want to experience everything other cultures have to offer, you can’t spend your days doing the same things you do at home. So take a chance and live as the locals do. You’ll be happy you did.

Interact with the locals

The best way to forget you’re traveling alone is to befriend the locals. Your new friends can keep you company, guide you to the best places in town (the ones that aren’t in any tourist guides) and help to make your trip more enjoyable overall.

Meeting locals is much easier to do now than before the Internet. A wide variety of online resources can connect you to local events and groups where you can meet people. Some of the best options for this include:

  • Facebook expat groups for the destination you’re visiting
  • The subreddit for your destination (such as r/Paris and r/Chicago)

Some professional and religious groups may have international meetups as well. This can be a fantastic way to meet locals with whom you already have something in common.

Take plenty of pictures (with you in them)

Last but not least, make sure you take plenty of pictures to share with your people back home. Landmarks can be great, but you should also be in some of the photos. Most people will happily snap pictures of you if you ask nicely.

What to do when traveling alone

Traveling alone can be one of the best experiences of your life or a challenge that quickly loses its appeal. To give yourself the best chance of having an ideal trip, remember the following strategies during your travels:

  • Be flexible : Flexibility is a must for solo travelers. You’ll have more fun if you take advantage of chance encounters and throw away your schedule when necessary.
  • Take group tours and classes : Just because you arrive at your destination alone doesn’t mean you must spend every minute there alone. Group tours and classes will help you meet people and give you a chance to socialize when you’re feeling lonely.
  • Stay in places that encourage talking : If you’re concerned about feeling lonely, consider staying at a hostel or bed and breakfast. Shared accommodations like these are more affordable than the best hotels and can be a great way to meet people.
  • Gather first-hand advice : You can use Reddit and other resources to read about the experiences other solo travelers have had at your destination. These firsthand accounts can alert you to problems you may not have considered otherwise and new opportunities for fun.
  • Sign up for free rewards programs : Airlines , hotel chains and third-party booking sites often have reward programs that help you save money if you’re a frequent traveler. You may also want to look into the best airline credit cards and best travel credit cards if you plan on traveling alone regularly.
  • Prioritize your safety : Traveling alone can make you a target, so prioritizing safety is important. Be proactive about telling others where you’ll be and take yourself out of situations you feel unsure about to enjoy your trip without incident.

Staying safe is a critical consideration for solo travelers. One way to do that is by avoiding reckless behavior, such as drinking excessively and venturing alone into places locals deem unsafe.

Take the time to thoroughly research your destination, share your travel plans with friends and family and prepare an emergency plan.

Finally, consider travel insurance. If something does happen while you’re traveling alone, it will provide financial support so you can go to the hospital without worrying about breaking your budget.

You could save up enough money to make the cost of travel insurance negligible by signing up for one of the best airline rewards programs .

3. Tours in and throughout the Pyrenees

The diverse geography in the Catalonian region is one of the many reasons this part of the world is such a beautiful place to explore and enjoy.

The Pyrenees mountain range separates the rest of Europe from the Iberian Peninsula. It spreads over 430 kilometers between France and Spain. In the heart of the Pyrenees lies Andorra, a small sovereign state. Many ski resorts are found here, as the peaks rise over 3,400m high.

In addition, there are a variety of beautiful hiking trails and national parks spread throughout the Pyrenees.

There is so much more to Catalonia than Barcelona; come enjoy the vast natural beauty with these tours.

Three Countries in one Day: Spain-France-Andorra

Have you ever seen three countries in one day? Now is your chance! Start From Barcelona: Go to France & Andorra and come back in the evening to Barcelona!

Start your morning early with a visit to the medieval Spanish village of Bagà, then head to traditional French village of Ax-le-Thermes located in the Pyrenees, finally go duty free shopping in Andorra la Vell – all in one day!

Where else but in Europe can you visit three countries in one day? Three different counties, three distinctly different atmospheres, stunning drives, and breathtaking scenery are just some of the features of this magical day.

After an early start from Barcelona, you’ll be in the Spanish village of Baga by 8:30am for a chance to stretch your legs.

Surrounded by the rocky peaks of Cadi-Moixero National Park, Baga boasts a beautiful medieval quarter, with a perfectly preserved market square and church.

Three Countries In One Day 8res 1

From Baga we will drive into the Cerdanya before crossing the border into France. Ax-Le-Thermes is a traditional French town. Although you are so close to Spain, this town has a very typical French atmosphere with various traditional French restaurants, cafes and terraces.

Leaving Ax-Le-Thermes at 11am, you’ll take a scenic drive over the Pyrenees Alps into neighbouring Andorra and its capital Andorra la Vella, the highest capital in Europe.

This tour is a fantastic opportunity to experience the spectacular Pyrenees Mountains on a tailor-made day excursion from Barcelona.

This is a perfect tour for anybody wanting to truly escape the city and immerse in the beauty of nature. Not to mention that you’ll also be visiting one of the world’s most famous mountain ranges.

We will leave Barcelona at 8:30 am about halfway to the Pyrenees Mountains, we will stop for a short break in the ancient town of Vic.

With your guide, you will have time to stroll around the town center taking in the cathedral (a mixture of styles ranging from Romanesque to neo-classical), and some magnificent Renaissance and Baroque buildings.

Perhaps you would just like to relax while having breakfast in the heart of town on a beautiful arched square (one of the biggest in the country) where the market and other major events are held.

Our visit to Vic coincides with traditional market days, something which has been taking place every week for over a thousand years!

Pyrenees Small Group Tour 2 1

From Vic we continue up into the Pyrenees. Before we board the train, we will briefly visit Queralbs, which, at an altitude of 1,236 meters, is the last vehicle-accessible village on the way up to our mountain valley destination.

This tiny mountain village has a population of only 200 permanent residents living in a collection of traditionally built stone houses. Perched on the side of the mountain, this impossibly quaint, picture postcard beautiful hamlet is one of the most memorable parts of the day.

Here, you will also be able to see the Church of Sant Sadurni de Fustanya, built from stones so perfectly-hewn that legend says it was built by the fairies and witches said to inhabit the surrounding caves.

From Queralbs, we take the last 6km of the impressive rack railway up to an altitude of 1,964 meters and into the stunning mountain valley of Vall de Nuria. Thanks to the cable car, from here you will be able to get to an altitude of more than 2,000 meters with no effort at all.

If you love hiking, then ask the guide to show you some routes; there’s something for everyone – from the hard and strenuous to light and easy. You’ll have plenty of time to hike well away from the valley and truly experience the solitude of the mountains.

In the valley, you’ll also find the sanctuary, originally built for housing pilgrims to the valley, which takes its name from the Virgin de Nuria. Her image, buried in the earth, was reputedly unearthed by a very persistent ox!

In the valley, you can enjoy the unspoiled scenery, sharing it with unusual birds and animals ranging from Gryphon vultures to chamois, and golden eagles to marmots, and take one of the many different walks and hikes.

Alternatively, you can try horse riding, open-air bowling, archery lessons, crazy golf, or go boating on the lake.

If you are not up for expending so much energy, another option is to enjoy some of the traditional Catalan dishes available in the restaurants.

Directly translated, it means “Wild Coast or “Rough Coast.” The fishing villages have a vibe that has been preserved throughout history; they feel authentic. Found in the Northeastern part of Spain, this region has much to offer as a destination outside of the busy city.

With sprawling natural beauty, a laid-back vibe, and a rich history, the Costa Brava is worth a visit.

Travel back in time as you wander and explore the medieval city of Girona. Your tour doesn’t stop there, as next you will discover the rugged and unspoiled beauty of Costa Brava.

The tour leaves Barcelona at 8:30 am and heads straight up to Girona, a well-established city that has survived many sieges in the course of its long history, since its founding in around 76 BC by the Romans.

It has experienced domination by many different people, which has shaped its deep and meaningful architectural heritage. The Cathedral, founded in 1038 on the site of a former Mosque, and the spectacular Roman walls, along which you can walk, are just two examples of this.

Packed with many museums and fascinating history, Girona offers endless opportunities for sightseeing and museums. For example, the Jewish Quarter and the Arab Bath House are both uniquely different landmarks all found in the same exciting place.

The narrow, windy streets of the old town are very pleasant for wandering around, indulging in some lovely window-shopping, or finding a secluded cafe and sitting back to watch people pass by.

Girona 2342015 960 720

From Girona, the tour heads to the impossibly charming Pals, a small medieval village that grew out of what was once a fortress. The name of the city comes from palus, the Latin word for marshlands, as this is was the surroundings of the old fortress.

From Pals, we head to the fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell. This delightful escape has whitewashed houses that reach right down to the sea and several traditional restaurants waiting for you to have a leisurely and tasty lunch.

You can also explore the rocky coastline, take a dip in the inviting waters, or follow the coastline around to the beautiful cliff-top botanic gardens at Cap Roig.

From Calella de Palafrugell we will return to Barcelona, arriving at 7:30 pm.

Costa Brava Full Day Tour

Christened 100 years ago as the Costa Brava, this tour features the lovely coast of Girona. This area has historically been a point of entry, transit, and settlement for different cultures and civilizations.

Each culture and civilization left its footprints, which is evidenced by the Greek and Roman sites in Empuries.

In one day, this tour aims to showcase the most emblematic sites along the northeastern shores of Cataluña, places of unsurpassable beauty that will give you a taste of all this area has to offer. The Costa Brava is not to be missed!

Our departure is from Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona every Monday at 8:30 am, we recommend being there about 15 minutes before. We will take the motorway and at about 10:30 we will arrive in Calella de Palafrugell, a small fisherman’s village that still retains today the traditional appearance of the past.

This village boasts unforgettable natural beauty and stunning architecture. The town, sprinkled with small bays, is the perfect mix of land, creating a truly remarkable setting. You will have plenty of free time to explore, take amazing photos, and enjoy this wonderful paradise.

Calella 818127 960 720

At around 11:15, we will start hiking along Camino de Ronda, which is going to lead us to the neighborhood town of Llafranc. We will hike for about 15 minutes. Don’t worry, this hike is suitable for all ages as the terrain is easy to pass.

The “Camino de Ronda” borders the Costa Brava and was used to control maritime smuggling. Today, thanks to this, you can discover beautiful spots that wouldn’t otherwise be accessible.

Llafranc is also a small, elegant, and captivating seaside town, a delightful part of this incredible coast.

Around noon we will travel to Pals, a town located inland and on the top of a hill. The village is built entirely in an integrated medieval site. At the top, there is a cylindrical tower from the XII century, which is visible from far away. It has an excellent terrace that offers stunning views of the Costa Brava and its surroundings.

As you stroll through the cobblestone streets, feel as though you are walking back in time. Take time to appreciate the round arches, facades with pointed window arches, and stone balconies that have all been perfectly restored.

Llafranc

Our next visit is to l’Estartit, a seaside village with a famous port, known worldwide as being an important diving center. The Medes Islands archipelago lies only one kilometer from the coast, which is the reason for this vital diving center.

Medes islands are of great interest for the wide variety of flora and fauna that inhabit the whole marine area, with more than 1200 species classified.

The ecosystem has been identified as the best marine reserve in the occidental Mediterranean. It was declared as a National Natural Park and ZEPIM. (Special protected area of importance in the Mediterranean).

Here you will have free time and the opportunity to enjoy a lovely lunch. At 15:00, we will get on board Nautilus, a boat with submarine vision.

We will sail for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. We will first explore the outer islands. Through submerged cabins with large windows, you can enjoy an exceptional view of a sea floor full of life, as if you were diving!

The itinerary continues to the stunning cliffs of Sierra de Montgrí, which are only accessible by boat and one of the most preserved, unspoiled areas of Costa Brava.

Our last exciting stop is at the extensive Greek and Roman ruins of Empuries, where we will arrive around 17:00. Once there, an expert guide we lead us on a guided tour around the whole site.

It is the only site in Spain where both a Greek and later a Roman city existed together. Empuries is also located right in front of the sea.

In the Greek city, we can admire the remains of city walls, the acropolis, the market square, and numerous buildings. Outside the archaeological site, we can see the Greek port of the I century Before Christ. In 1992, the Olympic torch arrived here for the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

In the Roman city the highlights are a mosaic floor in excellent condition, the forum, remains of an amphitheater, several statues, and vestiges of street frameworks.

At 18:00 the tour is finished and we will head back to Barcelona, arriving at Plaza Cataluña around 20:00.

Costa Brava Half Day Tour

This tour takes you to visit the Girona coast, including stops in Lloret de Mar & Tossa de Mar.

The natural wealth of Costa Brava and its charming beauty is apparent in several territories and protected areas, such us Cap de Creus, the Emporda Marshes, and the Marine Reserve Medes Islands.

Costa Brava is famous for its charming villages. Narrow winding streets and whitewashed walls encapsulate these fishing villages.

Different cultures and civilizations have settled, visited, and transited through this region, leaving their mark behind and creating a mixture of cultures.

In this tour, discover the southern part of the Costa Brava. We will visit two villages on the coast, showing you the essence of Costa Brava and what makes it so special.

After approximately an hour and thirty minutes, we will arrive in Lloret de Mar, which is the main tourist village.

You will notice the many buses and tourists arriving from all over Europe to enjoy its beaches, hotels, shops, activities, and above all, its lively nightlife.

Lloret De Mar 3750348 960 720

Take in this village during the hour and a half you have to explore. The lovely beach promenade shows the majestic beach of Lloret as well as the hidden Sa Caleta.

Two small hills on each edge of the beach promenade showcase wonderful views.

Walking through its narrow streets, which still have reminiscence of its recent maritime past, there are plenty of shops to suit all tastes: from the latest brands to the typical beach bazaars.

In the middle of its most famous shopping street, we will also be able to admire architectural jewels of great value such as Saint Roma church, with an exquisite modernism style, and inside the church, a 16th-century altarpiece which is still so well preserved.

At around 11:30 am, it is time to gear up for the neighboring village of Tossa de Mar. We reach this destination on board DOFIJETS

This sailing trip displays the huge cliffs and rugged landscapes developed over centuries from the sea and wind. The views from the sea are breathtaking.

We arrive in the emblematic village of Tossa del Mar. This village is considered “the pearl of Costa Brava.”

The landscape, history, caves, beaches, cliffs, and lush vegetation are a few of the reasons this is considered a pearl. It packs a punch of glorious sites and rich historical significance.

Tossa Del Mar 106861 960 720

History has left significant footprints. Romans in the Vila Romana dels Ametllers is one of the most important villas in the ancient Roman province of Tarraco. This is a classic example of a Roman Mediterranean farming establishment.

The emblematic fortified Vila Vella or Old Town of Tossa was listed as an artistic-historic monument in 1931, as it is the unique remaining fortified medieval town on the Catalan coast.

Today, little is left from the original 13th century. What is left for us today is the result of several restorations undertaken throughout the years, especially one dating from the late 14th century.

Outside its walls, we can find the traditional fishing neighborhood, known as Sa Roqueta, which still maintains the sailor atmosphere of these typical villages on Costa Brava.

Costa Brava Half Day Tour 1 1

Once we arrive in Tossa de Mar, we will begin a walking tour from the beach, following the fortified perimeter up to the lighthouse on the top, for those who are interested. Over there, you will appreciate stunning views from the coastline.

When descending, we will go through the narrow streets and stony houses of Vila Vella until we get to the fishing district. From there on, you will have free time to have lunch. This village has the greatest gastronomy offers in Costa Brava.

Enjoy a peaceful walk around the beach. Then check out the Roma Vila dels Ametllers, with well-preserved mosaic floors, is located in the city center, and is easily accessible, with free admission and explanatory panels. A complete visit is recommended.

You should not leave Tossa de Mar without walking around the small and attractive shops on its typical streets.

At 3:00 pm the tour will be finished and we will go back to Barcelona, where we will arrive at about 4:30 pm at Plaza Catalunya.

Ultimate Dali Small Group Tour

In this tour, discover the home of Salvador Dalí. This is a lovely place where the Pyrenees touch the Mediterranean Sea in northern Cataluña. The Teatre-Museu Dali is also included!

We will depart from Barcelona at 8:30 am from the office on Carrer Palau de la Musica 1 and set out for Figueres, the birthplace of Dali and home of the world-famous Dali Museum-Theatre.

Ultimate Dali Small Group Tour 2 1

Here you will be able to explore where he was born on Monturiol Street and visit the museum.

This museum is like no other you will experience. It is unique just like the artist’s creations. Dali wanted visitors to see his massive collection as a whole work.

For this reason, he wanted no catalogs and refused to have his works placed in chronological or subject order.

Step inside his world of fantasy mixed with architecture, paintings, and sculptures. It feels like walking into a surrealistic dream.

Winter Schedule 15th September – 30th June

After our morning visit inside the mind of Dali, we will head for the beautiful coastal village of Cadaques.

Spain 1856042 960 720

Famous for its white-washed Mediterranean houses, narrow shady streets, and sandy bay, Cadaques is one of the most picturesque villages on the Costa Brava.

For lunch, you can enjoy local seafood specialties in one of the numerous terraces facing the Mediterranean, or grab a sandwich and simply relax and appreciate why this place inspired so many artists.

Cadaques 838724 960 720

After lunch we will travel just a few minutes up the coast to the even smaller village of Port Lligat, the place where Dali sought the peace that truly inspired him.

When the artist met the love of his life, Gala, he broke away from his parents and bought a fishermen’s hut there.

Dali lived from 1930 onwards in Port Lligat, gradually altering and enlarging the original dwelling he bought there.

The house of Port Lligat is considered his only true home. That was the place where he painted the majority of his great works.

Port Lligat 1188477 960 720

Finally, we will move on to Cap de Creus, the most easterly point of mainland Spain and one of the most starkly beautiful coastal landscapes.

We will leave at around 17:00 hours and arrive back in Barcelona at around 19:00 hours.

Summer Schedule 1st July – 14th September

The summer schedule follows the winter schedule for the morning but follows a different itinerary after leaving the museum.

Following the museum visit, the tour travels to the village of Pubol, where there will be ample opportunities to eat in a traditional Catalan restaurant.

After lunch, you have the incredible opportunity to visit another Dali masterpiece: Pubol Castle. Dali gave the castle to the Gala in the spring of 1970, on the condition that he would not enter it unless personally invited by the Gala.

He carefully restored the old Gothic Renaissance Palace and furnished it with items bought from various antique dealers around the region. Inside, he painted frescoes and later painted two watercolors entitled View of Pubol .

He lovingly built the crypt where Gala is now buried deep in the bowels of the castle.

Although Dali only lived in the Castle for 2 years after Gala passed away, at the end of his life, Dali received the title of Marquis Dali of Pubol, although Dali only lived in the Castle for 2 years after Gala passed away.

In mid-afternoon, the tour will continue to Platge de Castell, one of those rare hidden corners you can still find on the Costa Brava.

Dali visited this region several times in the 1930s, especially a place called Mas Juny, owned by his friend Josep Sert, a famous Catalan painter of the time.

This place was famous for its artistic gatherings and parties, which were attended by Dali. Even today, the Costa Brava, with its transparent waters and pine forests, is not so different from the 1930s.

This rocky coastline has been saved from high buildings and large-scale tourism projects and still preserves that wild aspect that gave it the name of Costa Brava.

Costa Brava 123892 960 720

There is no better homage to Dali and no better way to finish the day than to enjoy the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.

Tarragona & Sitges Small Group Tour

This small group tour highlights southern Cataluña. Discover the ancient Roman Tarragona with its 2000-year-old amphitheater and the glamorous, infamous beach town of Sitges.

The tour leaves Barcelona at 8:30 am to head south towards Tarragona. Our first stop of the day is the breathtaking 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct.

Aqueduct 3138778 960 720

This perfectly preserved piece of ancient Roman history is hardly ever visited by tourists. Over 200 meters long and nearly 30 meters high, it is one of the hidden jewels of the area.

This is a rare chance to get completely off the beaten track and visit one of the most amazing architectural wonders of Cataluña. This impressive wonder is also one that hardly anybody knows about.

From the aqueduct we will travel to Tarragona, the ancient Roman capital of the Iberian Peninsula, quietly entering the old part of the city through a narrow gateway in the old Roman walls.

Spain 998645 960 720

Starting at the Archaeological Walkway, you will be able to admire the surviving stone walls, and wander through the historic old quarter as you pass the medieval hospital before stopping at the cathedral where you can enjoy the antique market.

Pick up something truly unique from the area and explore the beautiful cathedral that looks down on the antique collectors.

From there, you will continue down through the old town to discover the Roman Forum and the nearby Roman Circus hidden amidst the urban design.

Walk along the underground passageways that held the Circus stands and come to one of the most popular squares within the old town: Placa de la Font, situated inside the Roman Circus.

If you stand still and close your eyes, you can almost hear the chariots racing by. Feel chills down your spine as you imagine the events that took place right under your feet.

On this very spot, thousands of years ago, perhaps on the very same day of the week, the Roman capital of the Iberian Peninsula came alive in all of its bloody glory.

Last but certainly not least, enjoy the breathtaking sea view over the Roman amphitheater and imagine gladiators battling each other to death!

Amphitheatre 3747114 960 720

It is an impressive-feeling to stand on the same dusty ground that bore witness to countless scenes of sacrifice and passion.

At around 12:30 pm, we will leave Tarragona for Sitges. On route, we will stop at Roc de Sant Gaieta, an intimate little village built on the rocky shoreline.

Stroll between the white-washed houses of this former fishing village that preserved its Greek-Roman flair.

We will arrive in Sitges at 14:00hrs, a perfect time to indulge in a delectable lunch.

Sitges 4429073 960 720

This once-quiet fishing village boasts a long and sandy beach, groovy boutiques, and a handful of interesting sights.

Sitges has been fashionable since the 1890s when it became an avant-garde hang-out for the upper class of Catalonia. Get lost in its shady streets and enjoy the pure Mediterranean atmosphere.

Barcelona 416570 960 720

After a leisurely lunch, you might want to head off to one of the seventeen beaches the town has to offer.

We will meet again at 18.00 hrs and return to Barcelona at around 19:00 hrs.

  • Visit to the Roman Aqueduct near Barcelona
  • Full visit to the city of Tarragona – the old Roman capital on the Iberian Peninsula (including the Roman Circus, Archaeological Walkway, the old city walls, and the cathedral)
  • Visit to Roc de Sant Gaieta
  • Visit to Sitges, including time for lunch and shopping

Discover the secrets of Game of Thrones through this exciting tour! Led by an extra who took part in the production, this tour takes you to some of the locations used in the sixth season.

Your Game of Thrones day starts at 9.00 am in our main office. While you wait for your tour to begin, you can get in the mood by watching some video clips of the actual show filmed in Girona, alongside some photographs taken during the filming.

Game Of Thrones

Your guide will explain the main sites and locations you will visit, as well as the schedule for the day.

The drive to Girona takes just over an hour, and on the way your guide will tell you all about the history of this medieval town, and tell you some interesting stories about the actual filming in the town.

Once you arrive in Girona, you will be taken on a comprehensive tour of all the main film locations, and you’ll be able to stand in the same spots as your favorite characters.

With the help of photographs taken during the shooting, we’ll try to build a picture of what filming was like, and how it transformed the town of Girona into King’s Landing!

After about one and a half hours, we will take a break and treat you to specially made local ice cream, created in honor of Game of Thrones, and called “The King’s Hand”.

You will now have about an hour of free time to explore other parts of medieval Girona on your own. Discover the Roman Walls, observe the Jewish Call, and soak up the atmosphere of the beautifully preserved medieval jewel.

It depends on your preferences. Guided tours offer convenience and insights from local experts while exploring independently provides more flexibility. Choose the option that suits your travel style.

Some day trip destinations may be close enough to combine in a single day, but it’s essential to consider travel times and the duration of your visits to ensure a feasible itinerary.

Day trips can be enjoyed year-round, but spring and autumn are often considered the best times due to milder weather and fewer crowds.

The preferred mode of transportation depends on the destination. Trains are convenient for closer locations, while buses or organized tours may be better for more distant places.

Essentials include comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, water, a map or GPS device, and any required tickets or reservations.
