Based in Nashville, Tennessee, US, Ben Rector (born November 6th, 1986) creates piano-based contemporary pop full of powerful melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rector spent much of his youth studying music, learning piano from an early age before also learning the guitar and singing in his teenage years. Whilst studying at the University of Arkansas, Rector began to record his own music, releasing a self-titled EP in his freshman year.

This first release brought Rector attention locally, bolstered through local live performances. He then went on to release two full-length albums, “Twenty Tomorrow” (2007) and “Songs That Duke Wrote” (2008) before he had graduated in 2009. Finding local success, he was awarded with the NAMA award for Best Singer-songwriter in Northeast Arkansas, becoming a household name through extensive performances.

Upon finishing college, Rector moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in order to pursue his music career. A third full-length album, 2010’s “Into The Morning” broke into the mainstream, reaching number 11 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. During this period, Rector also gained exposure through performing alongside the likes of Five for Fighting and Dave Barnes, helping to find Rector new fans.

Rector managed to break into the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart with the 2011 release, “Something Like This,” establishing Rector as a pop sensation. “Walking in Between” followed in 2013, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart

Ben Rector, Nashville born, is a truly talented singer and songwriter whose life and loves is poured mercilessly into his work. Having been a fan of Rector for several years now, it is lovely to see him finally receiving some much deserved attention for his music. Rector’s music is far more than crooning love songs and sad ballads; more than happy go lucky folk pop, more than simple, catchy tunes. Every one of his songs tells a story, his story, and that’s what makes his music so beautiful to listen to. Rector performs his heart out on stage; a talented musician, he juggles the guitar and piano as he sings. His eyes downcast, his demeanour sombre, he sings of lost loves and best friends. He begins with ‘When a Heart Breaks’ and the audience are hooked. We all immediately feel his pain, share his sorrow. Arms start waving in the air, slowly, side to side, and soon the whole crowd is waving and swaying. This is the effect Rector’s music has. The venue is relatively silent, no one speaks. No one wants to interrupt the magic. ‘White Dress’, ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Forever Like That’ follow. The crowd dance to the more upbeat songs and sway to the sadder melodies. They, we, are utterly captivated.

Singer/songwriter Ben Rector decided to dismiss the conventions of his Nashville upbringing when he first found interest in music to develop an uplifting pop/rock sound. Despite the majority of the Nashville and Tennessee scene being devoted to country music, Ben won over the attention of fans, record labels and critics with his well written and performed songs.

Now almost ten years into his career, the musician has achieved a lot and his fanbase has stemmed out of the home state and he now entertains hundreds of revellers night after night. With his sales now surpassing two million, the tickets do not stay around for long and the venue is packed by the time Ben takes to stage. He receives rapturous applause from the offset and waits for silence before taking to the piano to begin a tender setlist which hand selects the very finest music from across his five album discography. Playing a cover of Drake's 'Hold On, We're Going Home' shows vocal range yet as everybody has attempted that track it feels a little predictable. It is the finale of 'Sailboat' that is the true highlight of the show and receives the largest reaction from the warm audience.

Imagine selling 100,000 records. It’s simply mind blowing, and for Nashville based Rector this was a dream come true. Let’s be honest, Nashville is one of the capitals of the music industry today, and you may think that this means it’s a good place to be, in some cases yes, but it only increases the competition. For Ben Rector, his hard work and dedication, paired with his immense talent, took him all the way.

Ben Rector is a fantastic performer, and I am also a huge fan of his band, so I set my sights high for his concert. I was not disappointed at all. I am usually one to go for gigs at smaller venues, but the arena setting was fantastic to see this epic gig from. The acoustics were fantastic, and it was especially noticeable when he sang Beautiful, and got the whole audience singing along with him.

It was great for the event to be unseated, initially I was a little apprehensive of this, but it turned out that I would’ve spent the entire time on my feet anyway. Ben was encouraging the audience to dance and sing to his tracks, and it was the best way to enjoy his music, fully immersing yourself into his fantastic music.

What a MAGICAL night! His vocals were perfection and his band was seriously so in the pocket. I was super impressed how easy and relatable Ben was on stage. He made everyone feel like a good friend. This show was also wonderfully produced! The lighting and the little personal touches in the set design made the show unique only to the talented Ben Rector. You could tell he put a lot of time making this tour his. Last night was seriously one of the best concerts! Ben Rector, thank you for a fun and wonderful night!

Ben Rector in Seattle was hands-down one of the best concerts I have ever been to. He was witty, relatable, authentic, and super entertaining. He has been my favorite artist for a while and I was already really excited for his concert but he surpassed all my expectations. It just felt like singing songs with an old friend. So so so good! Great show! Ben Rector always puts on a great show, sticking with some oldies but goodies and performing tracks from his latest album. I always love his "last song " bit.

It was so amazing!! This was my first concert and I loved it! I don't really know many of his songs, but it was worth it! Definitely a positive experience and had a very positive energy!

Ben Rector has amassed more than a billion streams across all platforms and has performed on numerous late-night and morning TV shows including Conan, The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In addition, he has been a celebrity mentor on American Idol alongside Ryan Tedder, Jewel, Brian McKnight, Jason Aldean, and more.

His records have topped numerous Billboard charts, with his last two records landing at #1 on Billboard's US Folk and #2 on Billboard's US Rock and US Indie charts. Rector has built a dedicated touring base, regularly selling out theaters and amphitheaters across the country, including three consecutive nights at the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Fifteen years after starting his career writing songs and touring in his Honda Accord on the weekends, Rector found himself at home and at the piano in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The alchemy of life’s big questions, more downtime than he’d had in a decade, and those now all-too-familiar “unprecedented times” resulted in his career album: The Joy of Music. The project includes a breathtaking short film (featuring seven songs brought to life with stunning cinematography), inviting listeners and viewers to visit a dream world that communicates Rector’s creative process and his reckoning with his job as an artist. He is led through the film’s chapters by his new friend Joy, a muppet monster he created with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. In this fantastic and dream-like landscape, we see and hear Rector overcome a deep-seated fear of failure, dancing and singing his way through the journey of rediscovering the joy of music.

2024 Utah YSA Conference concert to feature Ben Rector, Rachel Platten, Emma Nissen

The concert event for the 2024 Utah Area Young Single Adult Conference will feature singers Ben Rector, Rachel Platten and Emma Nissen, conference organizers announced Monday.

The concert will take place twice, with participants choosing to attend on Friday, Aug. 2 or Saturday, Aug. 3. Both concerts start at 8 p.m. at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

“We’re looking forward to an incredible show with these artists!” a post from the conference’s Instagram page and Facebook page states.

Conference tickets are $40 and are available at utahysaconference.org . Conference registration includes admittance to the convention, concert and dances as one ticket.

The conference’s devotional, which will be given by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, requires a separate, free ticket, also available at utahysaconference.org . Conference registration is not required to attend the devotional.

About the artists

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Ben Rector is known for his “passionate and melodic” piano-driven pop music, according to music resource website All Music . In 2010 his third studio album, “Into the Morning,” reached no. 11 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. His fifth album, “The Walking in Between,” reached No. 16 on the Billboard 200, while his 2015 album “Brand New” and 2018 album “Magic” both topped Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart.

He and his wife, Hillary, are the parents of three children.

Singer/songwriter Rachel Platten is based in New York City and known for her pop music, particularly 2015′s “Fight Song.” The “empowering” ballad was a top 10 summer jam in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, according to All Music .

She and her husband, Kevin Lazan, have two daughters.

Latter-day Saint singer Emma Nissen has been steadily gaining recognition for her “Christian Jazz” style of music ever since an Instagram reel sharing a snippet of her song “Breathe” went viral in November 2023, LDS Living reported.

In December 2023, she performed with “legendary” producer Adam Blackstone at Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, LDS Living reported, where she sang her original song, “Show Me How to Love Like You.”

The 2024 Utah Area Young Single Adult Conference

The 2024 Utah Area Young Single Adult Conference will take place from Aug. 2 through Aug. 4, in Salt Lake City, the Utah Area presidency and conference leadership announced Thursday, April 11.

“Following the excitement of the 2023 YSA Conference, the Utah Area Presidency is excited to invite young single adults ages 18-35 to the upcoming 2024 Utah Area YSA Conference,” the event’s website states.

At the conference, young single adults “can strengthen their faith in Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ,” the Utah Area presidency wrote in a letter to stake presidents, bishops, Relief Society and elders quorum presidents, and all young single adults.

Participants can expect a conference modeled after last year’s first-ever event . Activities will include:

• A two-day convention on Aug. 2 and 3, with keynote speakers, service opportunities, classes and other activities.
• Dances and other evening entertainment.
• A devotional at the Conference Center on Aug. 4 with Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf .

Additionally, on July 27, young single adults will attend local gatherings of service projects, 5K runs, temple trips and other events.
