5 Tips for Visiting Bob Evans Farms in Southeast Ohio

Tour adamsville village.

The Bob Evans farm property includes Adamsville Village, a cluster of buildings dating from the 19th century. The log cabin buildings are still standing and open for tourists. The main farmhouse also dates from around this time and was once a stagecoach inn.

Visit the Museum

The Bob Evans farmhouse, once the home of the Evans family, is now a company museum. It contains displays about the history of the farm and the restaurant chain, as well as life-size dioramas of the Evans family’s life and original commercials for Bob Evans restaurants.

Eat at the Original Bob Evans Restaurant

Along with the Bob Evans farm continuing to be a working farm, the original Rio Grande Ohio diner is still a restaurant where you can grab a home-cooked meal. Choose from omelets, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, turkey, chicken, steak, seafood, and more.

Attend the Bob Evans Farm Festival

Throughout the year, you will find many special events going on at the Bob Evans farm. The most popular is the annual Farm Festival, but you can always check in to see what else is scheduled.

Stay at the Bob Evans Farm Campground

If you enjoy camping, you can find an excellent campground right on the Bob Evans farm property. This campground is most popular during the annual autumn festival when tourists set up their tents to enjoy the weekend-long festival.

We stopped here on our way to Skyline Drive Shenandoah National park. Came for a quick look and a few pics but decided to eat. There were literal buses of people so they were just packed in and long waits for seating and food. Food was same as always but not worth the wait.

We try to come every year, but it doesn't always work out that way. It is always a good time. Good music, great food, nature, fresh country air. They do try to change things up from time to time. Last year they had a concert or two. We were not fans of this since it made it way too packed. I was glad to not see the stage setup this year. They moved everything around this year. the music stage was still there but no one was playing on it. We did take the walk through the woods that was nice and lead to an Indian Mound...Awesome.

What a fun experience at the flag ship location. We are little nostalgic for this chain as native Ohioans and saw this stop while traveling. It was worth the visit. A few of the Museum areas where closed due to Covid but was still cool to be at the family homestead.

We came upon this by chance when we saw a billboard on the Interstate. Having grown up seeing Bob Evans in his commercials and singing along with the jingle, not to mention having the sausage for breakfast, we had to stop. The farm buildings looked just like in the commercials and old memories flooded back! I didn't know you could tour the home, so we'll have to do it next time. The grounds are very well kept and they have activities throughout the year. Sounds like fun! There's even a full service Bob Evans restaurant on site, so if you're hungry you can enjoy whatever meal you're craving. They have some Bob Evans souvenirs, like hats and shirts, but they don't say Bob Evans Farm or Homestead, just Bob Evans. I thought it was located in Rio Grande, but the website says the address is Bidwell. You'll also see a list of events there too.

Festival soon to stop occurring, such sad news. The fall fest used to be such a great annual event for the community.

I've always wanted to visit the Bob Evans Farm in Rio Grande, Ohio so my son & I decided to attend the 2017 Farm Festival complete with amusement park rides. I wasn't expecting that. It was $5 to get in which included a $3 snack voucher to use at one of the snack bars on the farm. You park across the street and enter the farm under the road through a narrow drainage ditch...kinda odd. We enjoyed looking through the various historical log cabins. There are some farm animals to see, i.e. alpacas, cow & calf, turkeys, goats, pigs, etc. We really enjoyed sampling the various cheeses made right there on the farm & bought an individual cheesecake ($3) made from that cheese - yum! We also had some honey made locally & it was delicious as well. Ditto for the freshly made apple cider! The pig races were a sight to behold...hilarious watching them run around a track to get to the Cheetos. I especially liked the homestead museum in the house where Bob Evans raised his family. It was filled with information & I could have spent hours there reading & digesting it all.

Something fun to say "I've been to the homestead" the restaurant is the same as all the others. The self guided tour of the house was pretty interesting!

Evie was our server and we loved her! Such a beautiful smile!!!! The food was good too!

Will never return or recommend. The staff was quite grumpy & there was no teamwork throughout the restautant. It took an hour for our food & it came out incorrect. I never received my correct order. Noone ever refilled my coffee sitting on the edge of the table. My husband never received utensils even after asking twice. I suggest you don't have high expectations if you do choose to stop here.

Photo of Bill R.

Stopped in for b'fast on the way to the Carolinas. Not many cars in lot @ 9:00. Four tables with customers, 6 waitresses. Didn't take long, actually longer than should have, to understand why. Ordered eggs, bacon and toast. 40 minutes later......could be the reason 'Ol Bob sold out. Guess we have to find new place to stop.

Bob Evans Restaurants are a ubiquitous part of Midwest culinary culture – but it hasn’t always been that way. In the 1940s, Ohioan Bob Evans began processing and packaging sausage for his small, 12-seat diner in Gallipolis. In the 75-plus years since, Bob Evans has become a household name synonymous with good, old-fashioned country comfort food . What many don’t realize, though, is that you can visit the Bob Evans Farm in Ohio. (The original Bob Evans Farm in Rio Grande, Ohio, is now in Bidwell). If you have a hankering for classic country cooking, head to the historic Bob Evans Farm Restaurant Museum in Bidwell, Ohio.

Farms and homesteads in ohio.

Where is the original Bob Evans farm located? The original Bob Evans Farm was in Rio Grande, Ohio. Bob and Jewel Evans purchased the farm in 1951. Before that, they owned "The Steak House," a 12-stool diner that they had run since 1946. Bob started selling his famous sausage out of his truck in 1948 until he saved up enough to convert an old bread truck into a delivery van.

Where else can you experience agritourism in Ohio? Agritourism, as you might guess, combines working farms, ranches, orchards, and other forms of live agricultural production with the tourism industry. Here are some of the places you can enjoy agritourism in Ohio:

  • Gorman Heritage Farm , Evendale, OH : This 122-acre working farm near Cincinnati was a family farm for many generations. It has changed hands a few times since then and is now owned by the city of Evandale. You can visit the farm year-round or come visit during one of its special events, like the Sunflower Festival in early October.
  • Stearns Homestead , Parma, OH : Come feed the animals at the Stearns Homestead in the spring, summer, and fall. They have horses, goats, sheep, potbelly pigs, cats, rabbits, chickens, sheep, and turkeys - around 75 animals in total. The homestead is on a beautiful area of land with a cute duck pond and rolling hills of green.
  • Lake Metroparks Farmpark , Kirtland, OH : This 235-acre farm is a working farm that you can visit to learn about farming in historic times and how modern technology has changed the industry. When you visit, you can take a look at historic farm equipment as well as the beautiful horses and dairy cows (and sheep, pigs, and chickens) on the farm. You can even try your hand at bread making or help out with the fall harvest. The farm is open year-round so you can see what a farm does during each season to provide food to all of us hungry humans all over the world.
