Burj Khalifa Vs Eiffel Tower

Sharing is caring!

I have always been fascinated by the world’s most iconic architectural marvels. Two of my personal favorites are the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Both are magnificent structures that showcase human ingenuity, creativity, and technical prowess.

In this article, I will compare and contrast these two landmarks on various parameters such as architecture, history, height, popularity, and more.

The Burj Khalifa is a modern skyscraper that stands tall at 828 meters (2,716 feet) with 163 floors. It is a symbol of Dubai’s ambitious growth and prosperity over the last few decades.

On the other hand, the Eiffel Tower is a classic example of French art nouveau architecture that was built in 1889 for the World’s Fair to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution. It stands at 324 meters (1,063 feet) with three levels for visitors to enjoy panoramic views of Paris from different heights.

The stark differences in their design and purpose make them unique in their own right but also raise intriguing questions about what makes a building truly great.

Architecture and Design

The two iconic structures differ in their architectural styles and design elements, with one embodying classic elegance and the other exuding modern innovation. The Eiffel Tower, built in 1889, is a masterpiece of wrought iron lattice work that stands at 324 meters tall. Its unique design showcases its metal skeleton while also giving it an open and airy feeling. Gustave Eiffel’s inspiration for the tower was to create a symbol of France’s industrial prowess for the Exposition Universelle World Fair.

On the other hand, the Burj Khalifa, completed in 2010, is a towering skyscraper made out of steel and concrete that reaches over twice as high as the Eiffel Tower at 828 meters tall. Its sleek design features a series of wings that extend from its central core and taper towards its peak. It was designed by Adrian Smith from Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP to reflect Dubai’s status as a global hub for commerce and tourism.

While both structures are engineering marvels in their own right, they each showcase distinct styles that have come to define them over time. Moving on to their history and significance…

History and Significance

Did you know that the Eiffel Tower was initially met with criticism and deemed a ‘monstrosity’ by many when it was first built for the 1889 World’s Fair? However, over time, it became an iconic symbol of Paris and one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world.

The tower’s design was meant to showcase France’s technological advancements at the time, but it soon became much more than that. It represented a new era of progress and innovation, capturing people’s imaginations from all over the globe.

Similarly, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai also has a rich history and cultural significance. It was designed as part of an ambitious plan to diversify Dubai’s economy beyond oil, and its construction took six years to complete.

The building represents a major engineering feat and is seen as a symbol of modernity in Dubai. From both structures’ humble beginnings to their current status as architectural marvels, they continue to inspire wonder and amazement among visitors from around the world.

Speaking of which…let’s talk about height and views!

Height and Views

Get ready to experience breathtaking views and dizzying heights as I take you on a journey through the Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower.

Standing at an impressive height of 828 meters, the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. Its observation deck, located on the 124th floor, offers panoramic views of Dubai’s stunning skyline. Visitors can also enjoy a meal at At.mosphere, which is situated on the 122nd floor and boasts incredible views of the city.

On the other hand, while not as tall as its counterpart in Dubai, the Eiffel Tower still offers spectacular views from its three levels. The first level allows visitors to see Paris from a height of 57 meters, while those who venture up to the second level will be rewarded with breathtaking views from 115 meters above ground. Finally, brave souls who are willing to climb all 704 steps up to the top will be treated to unparalleled panoramic views stretching across Paris and beyond.

As we move into discussing popularity and tourist attractions, it’s important to note that while both structures offer incredible sights for tourists visiting their respective cities, they each have unique features that set them apart from one another.

Popularity and Tourist Attractions

Let’s explore the popularity and must-see tourist attractions of these iconic structures!

The Eiffel Tower is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. It attracts millions of tourists each year who come to marvel at its intricate lattice-work design and stunning views from its observation deck. The tower is also a popular spot for romantic proposals, with couples flocking to its top floors to take in the panoramic vistas of Paris.

On the other hand, Burj Khalifa in Dubai has quickly become a must-visit destination for travelers seeking modern luxury and extravagance. In addition to being the tallest building in the world, it boasts an impressive array of high-end restaurants, luxurious spas, and extravagant shopping centers that cater to visitors from all over the globe. Its main attraction is undoubtedly its observation deck on level 148, which offers breathtaking views of Dubai’s ever-expanding skyline.

Transitioning into our next section about overall comparison and conclusion, it’s clear that both structures have their unique charms and draw visitors for different reasons.

Overall Comparison and Conclusion

It’s clear that both the Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower have their own unique attractions and charms.

The Burj Khalifa, being the tallest building in the world, offers visitors a chance to experience breathtaking views of Dubai from its observation decks on the 124th and 148th floors. It’s also home to luxurious hotels, high-end restaurants, and shopping malls.

On the other hand, the Eiffel Tower is known for its romantic charm and rich history. Visitors can take a ride up one of its three levels for stunning views of Paris or dine at one of its many restaurants. Additionally, it has become an iconic symbol not only for France but also for love itself.

Overall, both structures offer different experiences that are worth visiting. The Burj Khalifa may be more modern with its luxury amenities while the Eiffel Tower exudes old-world charm with its romantic atmosphere. Regardless of which one you choose to visit first, they both leave unforgettable impressions on their guests.

Well, after analyzing the architecture, history, height, views, popularity, and tourist attractions of the Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower, it’s safe to say that both these iconic structures are breathtaking in their own right.

While the Eiffel Tower has a timeless charm and elegance with its intricate ironwork and romantic allure, the Burj Khalifa boasts cutting-edge technology and modern design that defies gravity itself.

But beyond just physical characteristics lies a deeper meaning – both these towering landmarks symbolize human innovation and excellence. They inspire us to dream big, reach for the sky (literally!) and push ourselves to new heights.

Whether you’re gazing at Paris from atop the Eiffel Tower or marveling at Dubai’s skyline from the Burj Khalifa’s observation deck, you can’t help but feel a sense of awe at what humans are capable of achieving.

In conclusion, comparing two such iconic structures as the Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower is like trying to compare apples to oranges – they’re different yet equally amazing. But what truly sets them apart is their ability to inspire generations with their beauty, grandeur, and symbolic significance.

As we gaze up at these towering giants in wonderment, let us also remember that anything is possible if we dare to dream big enough!

The Eiffel Tower in the world

« A vision, an object, a symbol, the Tower is anything that Man wants it to be, and this is infinite. A sight that is looked at and which looks back, a structure that is useless and yet irreplaceable, a familiar world and a heroic symbol, the witness to a century passing by and a monument that is always new, an inimitable and yet incessantly imitated object... » (Translation of Roland Barthes, La tour Eiffel, Ed. Delpirre 1964).

It was the tallest tower in the world at the time of its construction and has been imitated in various places around the world. Overtaken in height by today’s great towers, it nevertheless remains unique.

  • Las Vegas, la plus haute des répliques de la tour Eiffel
  • Burj Khalifa, Dubai, Emirats Arabes Unis

CN Tower, Toronto, Canada

  • Empire State Building, New-York, Etats-Unis
  • L’Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai, Chine
  • Skydeck Chicago, Chicago, Etats-Unis
  • La Space Needle, Seattle, Etats-Unis
  • The View from The Shard, Londres, Royaume-Uni

One of the best known and most imitated monuments in the world

Since the Eiffel Tower was built, people around the world have wanted it for their own. Many monuments have imitated this symbol of Paris and France. Some are inspired by Gustave Eiffel’s work while others are either very similar or replicas.

In 1889, the year of the Tower’s inauguration, the Washington Monument with its height of 169 metres had held the world record for four years. The world would have to wait more than forty years before seeing the Tower dethroned by the Chrysler Building in New York (319 m), which was overtaken in 1949 by the Empire State Building (381 m). Today, towers reaching staggering heights are plentiful, such as the one in Taipei (508 metres) and more recently the Burj Khalifa (828 metres).

The most famous and tallest replica is found in Las Vegas , Nevada. Reaching a height of 541 feet (165 meters), it was built near a luxury hotel-casino complex in 1999. The Eiffel Tower Restaurant and its panoramic terrace offer a superb view of the Bellagio Hotel’s famous fountains.

The Blackpool Tower was built in 1894 and is 518 feet (158 meters) high. Situated along the seafront, its base is obscured by a circus and an aquarium that only reveal its upper structure. Its astonishing architecture gives the impression that the Tower is simply emerging from of the ground! Tokyo, Japan, is home to one of the most famous Eiffel Tower-inspired constructions in the world. Tokyo Tower was erected in 1958 and rises to 1,093 feet (333 meters), 30 feet (9 meters) taller than its Parisian model! Red and white by day and golden by night, it offers a magnificent view of the Japanese capital.

Two Eiffel Tower replicas were built in China. One in a theme park in Shenzhen in the South-East of the country, and the other in Tianducheng next to Hangzhou. The latter is a 1:3 scale copy of the original and weighs more than 1,000 tonnes. We find other copies in Europe, such as the one in Prague (60 metres tall) at the top of the Petrin Hill. In Slobozia , Romania, there is a copy of around fifty metres in height, just like the one in Parizh , in the South of the Ural Mountains, in Russia. In Lyon (Fourvière), the top part of the Tower has also been reproduced.

How could there be a Paris without its Eiffel Tower? Two replicas in the American cities of Paris , Texas, and Paris, Tennessee, were created in 1995 and 1993. The city in Tennessee erected its simplified Eiffel Tower, which is 60 feet (18.3 meters) high, as a tribute to the French capital. The Texas city added an original touch of local culture to its Tower, crowning it with a red cowboy hat. This 66-foot (20 meter) high tower shines in all colors at nightfall.

Miniature Eiffel Towers

Not far from the original Eiffel Tower, Elancourt is home to France Miniature, a theme park featuring replicas of French monuments including the inescapable Eiffel Tower. Its 33-foot (10-meter) high scale model has nearly identical architecture and is repainted every seven years to match the colors of the original Tower .

A little further away from the Tower, the Mini-Europe theme park in Brussels features many replicas of Europe’s most beautiful monuments. Here, the Eiffel Tower is located just a stone's throw from the Arc de Triomphe, the Sacré Coeur Basilica, and Pompidou Center. Although it’s reduced to a height of 43 feet (13 meters), its details are no less amazing!

Other, similar theme parks have their own Eiffel Towers including Park Miniatur in Andrychow , Poland, or Parque Europa in Torrejon de Ardoz , Spain.

At Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando , Epcot park’s French pavilion boasts a 75-foot (23-meter) replica of the Eiffel Tower that’s remarkable for the fact that it intentionally doesn’t have a first floor, to create the illusion that it’s proportional to its environment. The effect is astonishing!

  • Travel Tips

When it comes to iconic landmarks, the Burj Khalifa and the Eiffel Tower are some of them. These architectural wonders have held the world captive with their greatness and beauty. In this article, we will embark upon an interesting journey into these two structures’ history, design and what they offer to visitors like you. From this article, you will know a brief overview of Burj khalifa vs Eiffel Tower .

Table of Contents

Historical background.

For the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris , a wrought-iron lattice tower called the Eiffel Tower was constructed. Gustave Eiffel was a French engineer who had designed it together with his team. This started in 1887 and lasted just two years.

The world’s tallest building since its completion in 2010 is Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Its design was done by Adrian Smith, an acclaimed architect, and the construction took several years due to the numerous complex stages involved.

Burj Khalifa: The Tallest Structure in the World

Burj Khalifa vs Eiffel Tower Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is a towering structure that holds the record as the tallest in the world. This engineering feat soars up to 828 meters. The Burj Khalifa is much more than a testimony of Dubai’s aspiration and modernity; it also stands as evidence of human creativity. This slender silhouette, shaped like a desert flower is just amazing.

But there’s more to Burj Khalifa than its height. It boasts luxurious interiors such as first-class restaurants, elegant hotels as well as awe-inspiring observation decks among others. On its 148th floor is the “At the Top Sky” observation deck which gives you a wide view of the cityscape, Arabian Gulf and desert environs. This experience will blow your mind away with its immensity.

Eiffel Tower: Iconic Symbol of Paris

Content image Eiffel Tower

No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower .This iron lattice masterpiece has become the quintessential symbol of the city and a beloved landmark around the world. Built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, the tower was initially met with mixed reactions but quickly won over the hearts of Parisians and tourists alike.

The Eiffel Tower stands at a height of 330 meters, not as tall as the Burj Khalifa but equally impressive in its own right. Its unique architectural design, with its intricate lattice framework, makes it instantly recognizable. As you ascend the tower, you’ll be greeted with breathtaking views of Paris. The top-level observation deck offers a 360-degree panorama, allowing you to marvel at the beauty of the city, from the grand boulevards to the winding Seine River.

Burj Khalifa vs Eiffel Tower: Height and Architectural Design Comparison

The most apparent difference between Burj Khalifa vs Eiffel Tower is in their heights. The Burj Khalifa looms over the Eiffel Tower nearly tripling its height; however, these edifices are differentiated by other things apart from their altitude.

The architecture of Burj Khalifa demonstrates how far engineering has come. This is achieved by blending state-of-the-art technology with innovative building techniques to achieve a contemporary and futuristic look. It is this tapering form of the tower plus its spire-like crown that makes it a symbol of advancement.

On the other hand, the Industrial era can be said to represent the architectural design of the Eiffel Tower as it stands now. As an achievement in engineering itself, its lattice structure consists of iron girders. Its graceful curves and arches make it look sophisticated while remaining timeless at the same time.

Burj Khalifa: Engineering Marvel and Record-Breaking Feats

Even though the Burj Khalifa has an extraordinary height, it has broken many records and achieved astonishing engineering feats. More than 330,000 cubic meters of concrete and 39,000 tons of steel reinforcement were used in its construction. The foundation of this tower weighs as much as 100 fully loaded Boeing 747 airplanes.

One of the most notable features of the Burj Khalifa is its double-decker elevators, which travel at speeds up to ten meters per second. These elevators are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies that transport visitors to observation decks within seconds of their boarding times. Additionally, the tower boasts the highest outdoor observation deck on earth giving a chance to have a bird’s eye view over the cityscape.

Eiffel Tower: Historical Significance and Cultural Impact

The Eiffel Tower, which is 330 meters in height and may not be as tall as Burj Khalifa, remains one of the most important historical symbols with a great cultural impact ever. Conceived as an arch for the entrance to the 1889 Exposition Universelle, it was originally planned to be dismantled after twenty years. But the liking of Parisians and tourists led to its preservation.

Over time, The Eiffel Tower has become a timeless emblem of Paris and France. It is captured by several movies, paintings or pictures that will forever imprint in people’s memories all over the world. Presently, it remains a remarkable example of human ingenuity and also exhibits French culture and heritage.

What You Should Know Before Planning A Visit To Dubai's Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa in Dubai skyline

Dubai's Burj Khalifa is a modern-day marvel. At 2,716.5 feet tall, the cloud-piercing superstructure is the world's tallest building. Opened in 2010, Burj Khalifa is more than double the height of the Eiffel Tower and nearly 700 feet taller than Shanghai Tower, the second-tallest building in the world.

While the megatall building's sheer height is impressive enough, Burj Khalifa also boasts the world's highest observation deck, giving countless guests of the building a chance to experience a falcon's eye view of the Dubai skyline, the Persian Gulf, and surrounding Arabian Desert.

Along with incredible views from the observation deck, Burj Khalifa also boasts wonderful art installations, dining options with unparalleled views, and some of the world's quickest elevators. Dubai, as a city, is one of humanity's most striking feats of engineering, and if you're visiting for the first time, you'll certainly want to explore the city's architectural crown jewel.

Create a personalized Dubai experience

To optimize your walk in the clouds, tour companies offer all types of ticket options for you to choose from. You can choose tickets for different observation tour experiences, take a guided or self-guided tour, add a meal or refreshments to your visit, and more. You can purchase tickets through Burj Khalifa itself, but for first-time visitors to Dubai , you may want to consider a Go Dubai Pass or something similar.

These customizable, all-inclusive passes can include admission to Burj Khalifa, as well as other popular city sites. For example, you can add admission to the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, on-and-off bus tours, the Aquaventure Waterpark, and other top attractions.

If you do choose to purchase tickets through Burj Khalifa, you should still buy them in advance, especially if you're on a strict schedule. Visitors are allotted time slots to visit the observation deck through either guided or self-guided tours, helping to ensure a less crowded experience. If you buy tickets in person, your tour may be scheduled for a much later time or for the following day.

Schedule the ideal time to visit

Burj Khalifa is open every day of the year, so you shouldn't encounter any trouble fitting a visit into your Dubai itinerary. However, there are certain times of the day that can add a bit extra to your experience. The building is open to visitors from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., with prime hours between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

During prime hours, you'll pay a bit more, but sunset views from the observation deck may be absolutely worth the cost. Also, fog tends to roll into Dubai before the late-morning sun burns it off. During foggy mornings, the observation deck is literally above the clouds, offering you really neat photo opportunities.

However, if you're a bit scared of heights and prefer a less crowded observation deck, you may appreciate visiting during non-prime hours. To avoid peak times, consider scheduling a visit early in the morning, during mid-afternoon hours, or after the sun sets.

Walk among the desert clouds

Undeniably, the highlight for most people who visit Burj Khalifa is the view from the observation decks. To help avoid any unnecessary confusion, there are basically two tour packages to experience the observation decks in the building: At the Top and At the Top Sky, which also includes access to the world's highest outdoor observation deck.

At the Top includes an outdoor observation deck, floor-to-ceiling windows offering 360-degree city views, a glass floor with surprising (and terrifying?) digital effects such as the simulation of the floor cracking beneath your feet, and high-powered telescopes to get a closer look at the city. Meanwhile, the At the Top Sky experience also involves a personalized tour of the observation deck. Along with views of Dubai's unique skyline , you'll also receive tasty refreshments at SKY Lounge and participate in an interactive experience to virtually explore Dubai's most famous attractions.

Peruse the artwork

While the views on the observation decks are immensely popular, Burj Khalifa offers a few other highlights worth exploring. If you're a fan of light bites and mind-boggling views, consider grabbing a snack at The Lounge, which serves canapes, teas, coffees, and house beverages. You can also take a tour of the outdoor terrace.

For art and fashion enthusiasts, it's worth visiting the lobbies of the Armani Hotel and The Residence at Burj Khalifa. Designed by Giorgio Armani, the lobby of the Armani Hotel is unsurprisingly opulent and chic, while the art installation in the lobby of The Residence is also worth seeing. Designed by artist Jaume Plensa, the lobby features a sculpture with 196 cymbals, representing the 196 countries of the world.

And we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that traveling from floor to floor inside the Burj Khalifa is also a pretty cool experience. Burj Khalifa features some of the world's fastest elevators, moving visitors up and down the building at nearly 33 feet per second.

Explore other downtown Dubai attractions

After touring Burj Khalifa, the area around the mega-structure is also worth exploring. The building is surrounded by the meticulously manicured green spaces of Burj Park as well as the Dubai Fountain. In the park, you'll find contemporary sculptures and plenty of places to sit and relax.

If you're looking for something a bit more bustling, check out Dubai Mall. If you've finished visiting Burj Khalifa, then you've already walked through the mall, as it's the only way to access Burj Khalifa. However, with over 1,200 retail shops and 200 dining options, there's plenty to see, buy, and try.

In fact, the focal point of the massive mall is the popular Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, one of the world's biggest aquariums. With a little research, you can easily bundle your Burj Khalifa experience with other downtown Dubai attractions, allowing you to explore Dubai from its above-the-cloud views to its underwater zoo.

“Burj Khalifa vs Eiffel Tower: A Comprehensive Comparison of Two Iconic Landmarks”

burj khalifa 958911

Introduction: In the realm of architectural marvels, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Eiffel Tower in Paris stand as true testaments to human ingenuity and engineering prowess. Each towering structure has its own unique charm and historical significance, making a comparison between them an intriguing endeavor.

Height and Structure: One of the most obvious differentiators is height. The Burj Khalifa, soaring at a staggering 828 meters (2,717 feet), currently holds the title of the world’s tallest building. On the other hand, the Eiffel Tower, at 330 meters (1,083 feet), though significantly shorter, remains an enduring symbol of Paris and an architectural masterpiece in its own right.

Architectural Styles: The Burj Khalifa, designed by Adrian Smith of the architectural firm SOM, boasts a sleek and modern design. Its contemporary aesthetic is characterized by a Y-shaped floor plan, with setbacks that give the tower its distinctive silhouette. In contrast, the Eiffel Tower, designed by Gustave Eiffel and his construction company for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, showcases the elegance of 19th-century wrought iron architecture.

Functionality: While the Burj Khalifa primarily serves as a mixed-use structure, housing residential, commercial, and hotel spaces, the Eiffel Tower was initially constructed as the entrance arch for the 1889 World’s Fair. Over time, it has transformed into a beloved tourist attraction and a communications tower.

Cultural and Historical Significance: The Eiffel Tower, completed in 1889, has stood witness to over a century of history, witnessing both World Wars and countless cultural milestones. Its iconic presence in Paris has made it a symbol of romance and sophistication. On the other hand, the Burj Khalifa, completed in 2010, represents the modern and progressive spirit of Dubai, showcasing the city’s rapid development and economic success.

Observation Decks: Both structures offer breathtaking views, but the experience differs. The Burj Khalifa features an observation deck on the 148th floor, providing visitors with unparalleled vistas of the Dubai skyline. In contrast, the Eiffel Tower’s observation decks on the second and third levels offer panoramic views of Paris, including landmarks like the Louvre and Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Conclusion: In the end, the choice between the Burj Khalifa and the Eiffel Tower depends on personal preferences, interests, and the experience one seeks. The Burj Khalifa impresses with its modernity and height, while the Eiffel Tower captivates with its timeless charm and historical significance. Whether standing beneath the gleaming skyscrapers of Dubai or gazing upon the romantic streets of Paris, both structures undeniably contribute to the rich tapestry of global architecture.

One of the most remarkable features of the Burj Khalifa is its observation decks. There are two main observation decks: At the Top, located on the 124th floor, and At the Top Sky, situated on the 148th floor. Adjacent to the Burj Khalifa is the stunning Burj Khalifa Lake, which spans over 30 acres. This artificial lake is home to the famous Dubai Fountain, one of the world's largest choreographed fountains. The fountain's performances are synchronized with music and offer a mesmerizing spectacle of water, light, and music, making it a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike.

Whether you're a traveler exploring Dubai or a resident of the city, a visit to the Burj Khalifa is a must to appreciate the beauty and innovation that define this iconic landmark.

Nothing to see... the day was foggy, so we went to Plant 148 for nothing. They were aware of the weather conditions but didn't cancel or reschedule the activity to another day. I'm completely disappointed. They seem to be only interested in taking our money without any concern for our satisfaction. THIS IS UNFAIR.

Jose – Spain

The VIP experience didn't justify the cost. People with cheaper tickets arrived at the same time. The VIP experience wasn't worth it. It's better to show up early and save some money.

traveler – United States

This is a terrible rip-off. You pay in advance to skip the line, but then you end up waiting in line for over an hour with no air conditioning. They also fail to inform you that you can purchase the same tickets directly from their website with an offer to visit the bar for a drink.

€140 per ticket for a visit that only lasted half an hour. There were very few explanations about the building, just a couple of minutes of information while the guide took you to the elevator. I recommend buying tickets without the 148th floor option for better value. The prices for on-site photos were exorbitant, but at least that's optional.

Manuel – United States

No guide was found, and there was a poor description of the meeting point. We had to start the tour without a guide, so there was no service.
