How to Optimize Your Smartphone Photos for Printing

The 6 most underrated photo editing effects you should be using, when does facebook messenger notify others about screenshots.

When you open Safari on the iPhone, the start page has a simple white background. In dark mode, it turns black. And that's about it. However, with iOS 15 and newer software versions, you can choose a colorful wallpaper as the Safari background instead.

And if you want something personal, you can even use a picture from the Photos app as the background of the start page in Safari. So, keep reading to learn how to change the Safari background on your iPhone and iPad.

How to Change the Background in Safari on iPhone

The instructions below will show you how to change the Safari background on your iOS/iPadOS device. If you want to use a custom image, make sure it's in the Photos app (and not elsewhere, like the Files app, Google Drive, or Dropbox).

When you're ready, follow these steps to add or change the Safari background:

  • Open Safari on iPhone running iOS 15 or later and tap Edit from the start page.
  • Turn on Background Image .
  • Apple includes preset background images. Tap to use one.
  • Alternatively, you can tap the plus icon (+) to select a picture from the Photos app.
  • Finally, tap X from the top-right corner or drag this page down to close it. You will see the Safari start page with a changed background.

Free Websites to Get Amazing Background Images for Safari

iOS 15 and even its successor iOS 16 feature just nine Safari backgrounds. If you don't like them, you can get fantastic backgrounds from websites that offer copyright and royalty-free images . Some of these sites are:

1. Unsplash

Unsplash has tons of images covering various categories like flowers, nature, fashion, architecture, abstract, interiors, film, and more. Its homepage features the most recent editorial images. You may choose from there or use the search box to find something specific.

Pixabay offers royalty-free images of various kinds that you can use for your Safari background, iPhone wallpaper, and elsewhere. Downloading images in lower resolution requires no authentication. However, you may have to solve a Google captcha for higher resolutions.

Pexels is another great place to find high-quality images to use in your projects, wallpapers, or on your Safari background. The homepage showcases a collection of fine photos, and you can also use the search box to find pictures related to gifts, nature, technology, models, wallpaper, and so on.

Use Safari With a Beautiful Background!

Now you know how to change the plain white or black Safari background to something colorful, fun, and personal. At this point, you just need to be creative with the Safari background you choose.

But if you ever change your mind and wish to return to the minimalist design, all you need to do is repeat the steps and turn off the toggle for Background Image.

You might have spent years looking at the same bland gray background in Safari's start page on Mac, but it doesn't have to be that way. You can spice things up by adding a custom background. Here's how!

Mac users who are running Safari 14.0 or higher have access to the customizable start page. Here, you can easily add or remove different sections and change the background image. The Safari 14.0 (or newer) update will be automatically installed if you are running the latest version of macOS Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur , or higher.

To get started, open the Safari browser on your Mac.

From the start page, click the Menu button from the bottom-right corner of the screen. Now, check the box next to the "Background Image" option.

Here, you can scroll horizontally to see bundled background images. Click an image to instantly turn it into the start page's background image.

However, if you want to add your own image as the background instead, click the "+" button.

Now, select your image from the file picker and click the "Choose" button.

You'll see the image as the new start-page background.

If you want to remove this image or switch to a different photo, go back to the "Background Image" section in the customization menu. Then, click the "X" button to remove the current background image. Repeat the above process to change the background.

Here's How To Change Your iPhone's Safari Background

Safari app icon on iPhone

Safari received some updates with iOS 15 , including the ability to customize its start screen. This is the page that appears when you open Safari and have no other tabs open. On this screen, you have your bookmarked pages, and with the new update, there are some more features available to populate this screen. One of these is the ability to change the background of Safari. Before, there was simply a black or white background (depending on if you use dark or light mode), but now you can choose from multiple different pre-set backgrounds or even your own image from your camera roll.

You can also change a variety of other features in Safari, including which of them are on the start page and the order they appear in. If you've ever wanted full control over the customization of your Safari start page, now is the time to do it. You can customize Safari directly within the app, and you can always change things around again whenever you want.

How to change Safari's background

The following steps will show you how to change your background in Safari, either to a pre-set image or your own. You can also turn off the background image feature altogether (via Apple ).

1. Open the Safari app.

2. Make sure your tabs are closed or open to a new one to get to your start page.

3. Scroll down to the very bottom and tap "Edit."

4. Now you're on the "Customize Start Page" screen. From here, scroll down to "Background Image."

5. Tap on one of the pre-set images to set it as your Safari background.

6. To use your own image, tap on the plus icon and then the image you want to use as a background.

7. To remove a background image you previously chose, tap the "X" in the corner of the uploaded image.

8. To turn off the background images feature, tap the slider to the off position, turning it gray.

Now you can use the Safari start page with an image of your choice for a customized experience.

Changing other Safari features

There are a few other settings you can change in Safari to customize your start page. This includes a few different sections: Favorites, where the bookmarks you have filed as Favorites are stored; Frequently visited, which is a list of web pages you visit the most; Privacy Report, showing you how many trackers Safari has protected you from ; Siri Suggestions, giving you suggestions based on Siri usage; Reading List, which is where pages you have saved to your Reading List are visible; and iCloud Tabs, to share tabs over multiple devices via iCloud.

On the "Customize Start Page" screen, you can turn all of these features on or off and change the position in which they appear. To turn them on or off, simply tap the slider either to the green "on" position or the gray "off" position. To change their placement, tap and hold the three lines next to the feature you want to move, then drag it up or down. These changes are saved automatically, so when you're done you can tap on the "X" in the top right corner to close the customization page and see your alterations.

That's right, Apple's new and improved Safari has innovations like a rearranged search bar and easier accessibility to links and bookmarks, but one of the coolest parts is its background image. Similar to your home-screen wallpaper, you can add an image to your Safari's start page that can be synced to all your devices — talk about staying on brand! Choose a picture of your own, or scour these cozy wallpapers for a fall vibe ; the choice is yours. If the idea of this new feature intrigues you, we've put together an easy how-to.

  • Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Hit the tabs button in the bottom right corner.
  • Select the Start Page.
  • Scroll down, and tap Edit.

Customize Your Background on Safari With the iOS 15 Update

Sara Belcher - Author

Sep. 24 2021, Published 7:54 p.m. ET

Apple iPhone

In recent updates, Apple has been rolling out more customizable content for iPhone and Mac users, and the update for iOS 15 is no exception. In addition to the 100 new emojis added to the keyboard with the new update, there are also new ways to share your screen with users and even FaceTime Android users , thanks to the changes Apple made.

The iOS 14 update allowed users to customize their home screens with new widgets, and thanks to the countless third-party apps on the market, iPhone users could add images, custom calendars, and more to their home screens to make their phone layouts more unique. There are even ways to replace the icons for your favorite apps to fit a theme with iOS 14.

And iOS 15 gives users even more customization options, with one of them being the option to customize your Safari background. Here's how to do it.

How to customize your Safari background in iOS 15.

A new and exciting feature in iOS 15 is the option to add a background to your Safari homepage. Gone are the days of staring at a boring grey screen with some links you've saved; now you can further use your phone as a part of your personal aesthetic by giving your Safari app its own custom background.

To add an image to your Safari background, first, make sure you have the image you want saved to your camera roll.

Didn’t know you could change your safari background on iOS 15 pic.twitter.com/OiGO4e0Ehp — Biscotti (@fuck_codiene) September 23, 2021

Then, open a new tab in Safari. Scroll all the way to the bottom of your Safari home page and select "Edit." Here, you'll be able to customize your Safari start page, including what suggestions will pop up when you open a new tab.

Scroll to the bottom and make sure the tab for "background image" is turned on. Apple provides a small handful of background options for you, but you can also add your own.

To import your own photo to your Safari start page, select the "+" button and scroll through your camera roll until you find the image you want. Select it to import it.

Once you've selected it, exit out of the editing screen to see your newly customized home page for Safari.

How to change the Safari search bar back in iOS 15.

Another big change Apple made to Safari with this update is the location of the search bar. Now, the search bar is located at the bottom of the screen and just above the keyboard when you're typing.

While this was originally meant to provide a better ease of access for users, many find it annoying and wish they could revert it back to the original layout.

To change it back to the original layout, all you have to do is open your Settings app, then select "Safari." Go to "Tabs," and select "Single Tab." This will change your layout in Safari so that the search bar is at the top of the page again. If you ever decide to change it back, all you need to do is follow the same steps and select "Tab Bar" instead.

How To Change Safari Background On Mac

Are you looking to spruce up your Safari browsing experience? Adding a custom background to your Safari browser can be a great way to show off your personality and make your browser feel unique. In this blog post, we’ll go over how to change the background in Safari on Mac.

The first step is to open System Preferences on your Mac. To do this, click the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen, then select “System Preferences” from the drop-down menu. Once System Preferences is open, click “Appearance” in the sidebar.

In Appearance settings, you’ll have three options for changing your Safari background: Light, Dark or Auto. Select whichever one you prefer and it will instantly apply it to your Safari browser. If you want more customization options, you can also create a custom start page for Safari by clicking “Bookmarks” and selecting “Show Start Page” from the drop-down menu.

Once the start page is displayed, click on the “Options” button in the bottom right corner of the window. This will open up a window where you can customize exactly what apears on your start page by dragging different options into order that best suits you. You can also add links to websites or choose images as backgrounds for each option if you like – perfect for personalizing your browsing experience! When finished customizing your start page, simply click anywhere outside of that window and it will save the changes automatically.

And there you have it – now you know how to change the background in Safari on Mac! With just a few clicks of a button, you can give your internet browsing experience an extra touch of style and personalization – enjoy!

How To Change Safari Background On Mac 1

Changing Safari Background from Black to White on Mac

To change the background of Safari on Mac from black to white, fist open your System Settings by clicking on the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen. Then, click on Appearance in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down). On the right side, you will find a setting for Light, Dark or Auto. Select Light and this will change your Safari background from black to white.

Customizing the Safari Screen

To customize your Safari screen, start by opening the Safari app on your Mac. Then, choose Bookmarks > Show Start Page. This will open a window with options for customizing your start page. Click the Options button in the bottom-right corner of the window to select which items you want to apear on your start page. You can choose from Bookmarks, Frequently Visited sites, Reading List, Top Sites, iCloud Tabs and more. Once you’ve selected the options you’d like to appear, drag them into the order you want them to appear in. When you’re finished customizing your start page, click in the Safari window to save your changes.

The Impact of Safari’s New Black Background

Safari on iOS now uses a dark mode when enabled in your device’s settings. This means that instead of the traditional white background, the background of the Safari browser is now black. Dark mode can make it easier to read text and can help reduce eye strain in low light conditions. Additionally, dark mode can also help save battery life on devices with OLED displays.

Turning Off Safari’s Dark Mode

To get Safari out of dark mode, you’ll frst need to open the System Preferences application on your Mac. Once it’s open, click on the General tab. Here, you’ll see an option that says ‘Appearance:’. Click on the drop-down menu next to this and select ‘Light’. This will switch Safari out of dark mode and back to a light background. You can switch between dark and light mode as often as you like by simply selecting either ‘Dark’ or ‘Light’ from this menu.

The Impact of Safari’s White Color Scheme on Dark Mode

Safari is white on dark mode because Dark Mode is designed to save battery life and reduce eye strain. When Safari is in Dark Mode, it reduces the brightness of the screen to make it easier on your eyes. Unfortunately, most websites are not designed to support Dark Mode, so they will apear white when you have Dark Mode enabled. To get around this issue, you can use Safari Reader which allows you to read articles in Dark Mode without having to switch back and forth between Light and Dark modes.

Changing the Color of the Safari Toolbar on a Mac

To change the color of your Safari toolbar on your Mac, open Safari’s preferences by pressing ? Command + ,. Then select the Tabs section and choose the Compact Tab layout. Finally, go to the Advanced section and make sure Show color in Compact Tab Bar is checked. This will enable you to customize the colors of your toolbar in Safari.

Does Safari Have Themes?

Yes, Safari does have themes. You can customize the appearance of Safari by changing the theme and color scheme. You can choose from a variety of built-in themes and color schemes, or create your own custom theme. Additionally, you can customize the font size and style, as well as othr settings such as how bookmarks are displayed. With these customization options you can make Safari look exactly how you want it to!

In conclusion, Safari background can be easily customized to suit your preferences. You can choose from Light, Dark, or Auto in System Settings and customize the Start Page in Safari by selecting options and arranging them in the order you want them to appear. With these options, you can create a unique and personalized experience when using Safari on your Mac.

How to Change Safari Background on Mac

Changing your background on your desktop might be common knowledge, but did you know you can also change your background in Safari?

So, how do you do it? Fortunately, changing your Safari background is quick and easy. Let’s get into it!

Table of Contents

Key Takeaways

Steps to change safari background on mac, customizing your images further, final thoughts.

  • Safari offers loads of neat customization options, one of which is the ability to set your own custom background.
  • To set a background, launch Safari or open a new tab , and use the settings button on the lower right-hand corner of the Safari screen to change your background to pre-created images or select your own image.
  • Changing your background in Safari is easy and only takes a few seconds, unless, of course, you want to while away the hours editing your photos with an AI photo editing software like Luminar Neo , to make sure your background photo is just right.

Apple, with the release of macOS Big Sur in 2020, allowed for some additional fun customization options in Safari. The most popular of which is the ability to change your background. You are able to choose from a pre-created background for Safari, or you can even choose a custom background.

To get started, take the following steps:

Step 1 : You’ll need to Open Safari from your Dock or Applications folder.

Step 2: Click on the settings icon in the right-hand corner.

Step 3: Next, Scroll to the right to choose a pre-selected background image or click the ‘+’ to choose your own custom background.

When you first open the custom folder, you will be presented with desktop images to choose from. These are the pictures that come preinstalled with macOS.

That’s all there is to it! You now have a custom background to enjoy every time you land on your new tab page.

If you know you’ll be looking at this background image every time you open Safari, you’ll want it to be something memorable and unique. This is where I suggest an AI photo editor like Luminar Neo or Canva . More expensive tools like Photoshop are always an option, but most of us don’t want to invest that much in editing our wallpaper.

I used Luminar Neo , which is a relatively inexpensive application available on the App Store .

If you want to get lost for hours editing and customizing the perfect picture, this is the coolest tool for the job. One neat trick is changing the sky out from something bland and boring, to something a little more interesting. Take this image with a cloudy background, for example.

You can select the sky and apply an “enhancement” to it to turn it into a galaxy. You can also choose from dozens of other scenes and effects.

How do I change the background for safari to gray?

Chris Beall

Jul 28, 2011 5:46 PM in response to shari29172

There are two situations in which the white background will show up in Safari. You can override both of them, but you may not want to, at least not always. Here's how to do it.

Safari displays web sites. The author of a website may, or may not, have specified a background color for their web pages.

1. If no background color was specified, Safari defaults to using white. There does not appear to be any way to change this (except to use a different browser; most of them do let you change the default background color).

2. If a background color was specified, Safari uses that color. Gmail and Facebook specify white as the background color.

It is possible (likely even) that different parts of a web page will use different background colors. Most often, however, one color is prominent and fills most of the background. That's probably the one you want to change. Doing so, however, may still leave some white areas on the screen.

To do this, you must create your own Style Sheet, as follows:

Create a new Folder. You could name it "My preferences" or something like that. Remember where it is.

Open TextEdit.

Copy and paste in the following text (I'll explain it later):

/* force body background color */

background-color: #aaaabb ! important ; /* blue gray */

Save As... the text file into your new folder, naming it "MyStyle.css". Note that you will have to type over the ".txt" that is put into the name field automatically.

OK, now you have to tell Safari to use your new style:

Open Safari.

Preferences...

Advanced (tab)

Down where it says "Style sheet", click on the up-down arrows at the right.

Click on "Other..."

Navigate through the file structure to your new folder and select "MyStyle.css"

Click on the "Choose" button.

Close the Preferences window.

Now go to Gmail. Tthe white background should have changed to a blue-gray.

The good news: This will work for most web pages.

The bad news: It will also work for web pages where the original background was black, or some other dark color. As a result, the new background may be too light to give you enough contrast to read the light text. (It may also be ugly in combination with some other colors).

For such cases, you can easily return to the original default. Just open the Preferences... again, go to the Advanced tab, click the arrows next to "Style sheet" and select "None selected". You should be back to bright white backgrounds or whatever the web page designer specified. (When you want to return to your style sheet, you will find that its name now appears in the list, so you don't have to go through the folder structure to find it).

So what's a Style Sheet? It's just a set of rules for displaying web pages. You just created a simple one.

Here's an explanation:

That's just a comment. Safari ignores it. It is just there for humans, to remind us of what we were trying to do.

This is a Selector. It tells Safari which part of a web page you want to apply the style to. In this case it is the "body", which is essentially analogous to the piece of paper on which you would write something. The little curly bracket is the beginning of a potential collection of style Properties that we could apply to the body (we're just going to use one, but there are many others).

background-color: #aaaabb

This tells Safari that we want to set the background color and then provides the code for the color we want to use. The color is specified in 3 parts: how much Red, Green, and Blue should be used. Each part is represented by two letters (hexadecimal characters to be precise). By mixing Red, Green, and Blue we can select many colors (about 16 million). There are 16 values for a hexadecimal character, so in addition to the usual digits 0-9 we use A-F. It doesn't matter if they are upper or lower case. So the color code above says:

aa - Use a generous amount of Red

aa - Use a generous amount of Green

bb - Use just a little bit more Blue

A code of #ffffff would be white (use as much of each color as possible) and #000000 would be black (don't use any of any of the colors).

You can play with the values to pick your own favorite or Google 'color picker' and find many examples from which to choose. To get your change to take effect, you will have to flip Safari to "None selected" and then back to "MyStyle.css".

! important ;

This tells Safari you want your rule to override whatever the website designer specified for the background color. Without this, your style would take effect only if the website designer did not provide any background color at all. The semicolon just ends the Property; you could potentially follow it with more Properties for the body.

/* blue gray */

Just another comment for the human who hasn't memorized the 16 million color codes.

Indicates the end of rules for the body.

No more migraines.

There is another possible solution. Hold down 'control' 'option' 'command' keys and press the number '8' key. This inverts the screen color giving you a negative image. White becomes black, black becomes white and so on.

Things will look a little strange but might be an easier solution for you.

To undo it simply repeat the key combination again.

Let's embark on this journey to personalize and enhance your Safari browsing experience.

Method 1: Using Safari Preferences

Safari offers a straightforward and user-friendly method to change the background of the browser through its built-in preferences. This method allows you to select a predefined background image or color scheme, instantly transforming the look and feel of your browsing environment. Here's how you can utilize Safari preferences to customize the background:

Open Safari Preferences : Launch Safari and click on "Safari" in the top menu bar. From the dropdown menu, select "Preferences."

Access the General Tab : In the Preferences window, navigate to the "General" tab. This is where you can modify various settings related to Safari's appearance and behavior.

Choose a Background Image or Color : Within the General tab, locate the "Background" section. Here, you have the option to select a background image from the provided gallery or choose a solid color as the background.

Select a Background Image : If you opt for a background image, click on the "Select" button to browse through the available images. Safari provides a collection of stunning nature and landscape images that can instantly revamp the look of your browser.

Set a Solid Background Color : Alternatively, you can choose a solid color as the background by clicking on the color swatch next to the "Color" option. This allows you to personalize the background with your preferred color, adding a touch of individuality to your browsing experience.

Preview and Apply : After selecting a background image or color, take a moment to preview how it appears in the browser window . Once you are satisfied with your choice, simply close the Preferences window to apply the changes.

By following these simple steps, you can effortlessly modify the background of your Safari browser to suit your aesthetic preferences. Whether you prefer a serene landscape to accompany your browsing sessions or a vibrant color to enliven the interface, Safari's built-in preferences provide a convenient avenue for customization. This method is ideal for users who seek a quick and hassle-free way to refresh the visual appeal of their browser without delving into more advanced customization options.

Utilizing Safari preferences to change the background not only enhances the visual aspect of the browser but also allows you to create a personalized and inviting browsing environment that resonates with your unique style and preferences.

Method 2: Using Browser Extensions

When it comes to customizing the background of your Safari browser, leveraging browser extensions opens up a world of possibilities. Browser extensions are powerful tools that extend the functionality of your browser, offering a diverse range of customization options, including the ability to change the background. Here's how you can utilize browser extensions to transform the background of your Safari browsing experience.

Explore Extension Options : Begin by navigating to the Safari Extensions Gallery or the Mac App Store to discover a wide array of browser extensions designed to enhance your browsing experience. Look for extensions specifically tailored to customize the appearance of your browser, including those that offer background customization features.

Install the Extension : Once you've identified a suitable browser extension for customizing the background, proceed to install it on your Safari browser. This typically involves clicking on the "Install" or "Add to Safari" button, after which the extension will be seamlessly integrated into your browser.

Access Customization Settings : After installing the extension, access its settings or preferences to explore the background customization options it offers. Depending on the extension, you may have the ability to choose from a selection of preloaded background images, upload your own custom images, or even apply dynamic backgrounds that change based on the time of day or your browsing activity.

Select and Apply the Background : Once you've explored the available customization options, select your preferred background and apply it to your Safari browser. Take the time to preview how the background appears in the browser window, ensuring that it aligns with your aesthetic preferences and enhances the overall browsing experience.

Enjoy Enhanced Customization : By utilizing browser extensions to change the background of your Safari browser, you gain access to an extensive library of customization options, allowing you to infuse your browsing environment with personality and style. Whether you opt for a tranquil nature scene, a captivating artwork, or a sleek minimalist design, browser extensions empower you to tailor the background to your exact specifications.

With the diverse range of extensions available, you can seamlessly transform the visual aesthetics of your browser, elevating your browsing experience to new heights.

Method 3: Using Custom CSS

For those seeking a high level of customization and control over the appearance of their Safari browser, delving into the realm of custom CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) provides an advanced and versatile approach to changing the background. Custom CSS empowers users to apply precise styling to web elements, including the browser interface, allowing for a truly personalized browsing experience. Here's how you can leverage custom CSS to transform the background of your Safari browser:

Understand CSS Basics : Before diving into customizing the background of your Safari browser using CSS, it's beneficial to have a basic understanding of CSS principles. CSS allows you to define styles for web content, including layout, colors, and fonts. While it may seem daunting at first, even a fundamental grasp of CSS can enable you to make impactful visual changes to your browsing environment.

Access Safari's Developer Tools : Safari provides a robust set of developer tools that allow you to inspect and modify the elements of a web page, including the browser interface itself. To access these tools, go to the Safari menu, select "Preferences," click on the "Advanced" tab, and enable the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" option. This will add a "Develop" menu to the top bar, giving you access to the developer tools.

Inspect Browser Elements : With the developer tools enabled, navigate to a website or a blank tab in Safari and right-click on the background area. From the context menu, select "Inspect Element" to open the developer tools panel. This panel displays the HTML and CSS code of the selected element, allowing you to identify the specific elements that comprise the browser interface.

Apply Custom CSS : Once you've identified the relevant CSS classes or IDs for the browser background elements, you can begin applying custom CSS to modify the background. This may involve specifying a background color, setting a background image, or implementing advanced styling techniques to achieve the desired visual effect.

Save and Apply CSS Changes : After crafting your custom CSS rules to alter the background, you can save the changes using browser extensions such as Stylish or directly within the developer tools. By applying your custom CSS, you can instantly witness the transformation of the browser background, tailored to your exact specifications.

By harnessing the power of custom CSS, users can exercise precise control over the visual presentation of their Safari browser, including the background. This method is particularly appealing to individuals with a penchant for web design and a desire to craft a browsing environment that reflects their unique style and preferences. While it requires a degree of technical proficiency, the ability to apply custom CSS opens up a realm of creative possibilities, allowing for a truly personalized and visually captivating browsing experience.
