Journey: How to Get the White Robe and Cloak Embroideries

It's all about the look.

journey game robe

There is much more to enjoy in Journey than just its awe-inspiring levels and fantastic music. The game is riddled with collectibles to discover and nothing is more desirable than the White Robe and Cloak Embroideries.

Journey ,White Robe

The White Robe is the most sought after upgrade in Journey. The reason for this is that the White Robe can be obtained at the beginning of each new game and provides a longer scarf right at the start. Even better than that, the robe will automatically recover scarf energy while the player remains on the ground which lets you float your way throughout the game with relative ease. Obtaining the White Robe isn’t very difficult, but it does require a bit of time. By acquiring each Glowing Symbol scarf upgrade in the game, you’ll get the Transcendence trophy and the robe will become available at the entrance to the hub in the first area. Simply step onto the glowing platform of dangling cloth and you’ll step out with a shiny new cloak. Keep in mind that you don’t have to get each scarf upgrade in a single playthrough, so you can spread it out or even abuse Chapter Select to gather the ones you don’t already have.

Cloak Embroideries are special designs that will appear on the bottom of your cloak. They don’t give the player any special attributes, but they do look really, really cool. They are gained in sections by completing the game multiple times through. A new embroidery will be added to your cloak each time you beat the game up to three times. You have to completely beat the game from the introduction level all the way to the end in order to get the new design. The embroideries will appear on both the regular cloak as well as the White Robe and will also glow when charged by floating cloth or another player.

Unlock Powerful White Robes in Journey With Every Symbol Location

Image of Kevin Thielenhaus Legacy Author

Now that Journey is out on Playstation 4, take a return trip and collect every glowing symbol with our locations guide, helping your mysterious pilgrim unlock the powerful white robes outfit.

Finding these rare glowing symbols upgrades the wanderer’s scarf power, allowing them to glide and leap further across the desolate landscape of Journey . Collect them all, and there’s a bonus costume in your future — the white robes instantly refill your scarf after a landing, making exploration easier than ever before.

Check out the entries below for tips, showing you how to find every glowing symbol and where to collect your reward, the white robes, when you’re done.

Symbol Locations – How to Unlock White Robes

To unlock the powerful White Robe outfit, you’ll need to collect every symbol. Glowing symbols upgrade your scarf.

Once every symbol is collected, return to the Hub and go up the steps to the area that shows how many symbols you’ve collected. Travel to the glowing white thread and press [Circle] to change into the white robes. Change back into your normal robes by returning to this location and pressing [Circle].

The white robes, when worn, instantly regenerate scarf jumping energy after landing.

Locations Guide

  • Symbol #1 : The first glowing symbol is right in front of your starting point.
  • Symbol #2 : After crossing the sands in the lower area, you’ll reach a three-story platform that you circle to reach the top. On the second level, continue past the partially-crumbled top to find a symbol to the left.
  • Symbol #3 : There’s a small platform sticking out of the sand to the right of the three-story platform, between it and the building with stairs. Jump and glide to it or run across the valley.

Broken Bridge Area

  • Symbol #1 : The first symbol is near the starting point of this area. It’s found on a ledge to the right where there’s a sandfall, before reaching the broken bridge in the distance.
  • Symbol #2 : Return to the starting point and travel northwest. Watch the rock wall for a cave hidden behind another sandfall, partially obscuring the glowing symbol inside.
  • Symbol #3 : At the start of the area, travel left and look next to a rocky outcropping between the staggered broken bridges.

Desert Area

  • Symbol #1 : Travel right from the starting point through the dunes to find a small ruin of pillars with the glowing symbol sitting on top of a column.
  • Symbol #2 : From the start, move toward the mountain in the far, far distance. Eventually, beams of light will shoot out from the mountain’s direction and land in the desert. The first leads straight to a small ruin with a symbol glowing above a wrecked wall.
  • Symbol #3 : Leave the start of the desert, moving left until you come across flying clothe creatures near ruins buried deep in the sand. Move toward the mountain to spot another ruin with an Ancient Glyph. Moving toward the mountain again, across one more dune, there’s a tall tower with stairs containing the next symbol at the top.
  • Symbol #4 : Inside the massive sandstorm, travel up to the top of the tower. Before going up the steps to the shrine, check out the ledge to the left.

Sunken City Area

  • Symbol #1 : Just as you start sliding through the city, follow the arches on the left path. Once you pass through five, move right to a ruined hallway in the center of the path. There’s a glowing symbol inside.
  • Symbol #2 : After jumping through a sandfall and appearing over a massive canyon, look to the right. There’s a platform jutting out from the rock wall with an easily visible glowing symbol.
  • Symbol #3 : During the second sliding sequence, stick to the center of the desert and move through the three arches. After ramping off a rock, you should see a large rock mountain sticking out of the sand ahead with a building on top. Move slightly left and use the rock ramp to leap to a narrow canyon in the central rock formation ahead.

Underground Passage Area

  • Symbol #1 : At the start of the underground passage, you’ll find square-ish tubes stuck in the sand. Eventually, you’ll find one tube on the left sticking up. Look inside it to get the symbol.
  • Symbol #2 : Past the previous symbol, you’ll enter a larger area with arches holding up more tubes. Follow the flowing clothe to a tube suspended over the sand on the right with an opening pointing toward the entrance. Glide into the tube to see it.
  • Symbol #3 : In the following room, you’ll find strange jellyfish-shaped floating clothe creatures. Midway across the chamber, you’ll find a series of these jellyfish positioned straight upward, allowing you to continue leaping up to a very high glowing symbol.
  • Symbol #4 : Entering the dark area near the end, stick to the left wall and explore toward the last slope. There’s a wall of archways, with the glowing symbol right behind it.

Temple Area

  • Symbol #1 : After activating the glowing mural, raising the lights on the central tower, look on a ledge attached to the middle tower, on the left.
  • Symbol #2 : Using more murals to raise the glowing energy, you’ll eventually reveal a clothe dragon. Ride it up and watch the central tower. There’s a hidden opening in one of the walls on the way up containing your next symbol.
  • Symbol #3 : Enter the clothe dragon’s mysterious chamber filled with hanging clothe flags along the exterior edge. There’s a narrow area behind these flags, glide behind them to find a hidden symbol.
  • Symbol #4 : Once the glowing energy has reached the top level of the temple, search the exterior temple walls parallel with the clothe jellyfish. There’s a small room directly above the temple entrance hall, high up from the starting point.

Overview [ ]

The character you control in Journey is a Wayfarer. Companions you meet along the way or travel with are also Wayfarers.

Wayfarers are known by a variety of names, the most common ones being:

  • Rythulian (sometimes mistakenly considered the official name of the species, see Trivia section below)

When using the Chirp button, one can see their Symbol , and it is also visible on the Wayfarer's chest (when glowing).

Wayfarers (your character included) may wear a white or red robe with different embroideries (tiers) indicating the player's progress in the game as explained in the following sections.

Robe Tiers [ ]

You start the game as a Red Robe (RR) with just a single yellow line on the bottom of your robe. This makes you a first run and people that understand how the pattern increases will recognise you as a newcomer.

With every completed Journey you will get more embroidery on your robe, up to your "fourth run" (Tier 4) .

The terms "run" and "tier" are both used and understood by the Journey community members.

First Run

Fourth Run, Full Embroidery

First Run [ ]

A Wayfarer playing the game for the first time. They cannot meet a White Robe except in iOS. [1]

Second and Third Runs [ ]

With every completed Journey , the embroidery will increase when starting a new Journey , until it reaches full embroidery (Tier 4).

You may start a Journey through Chapter Select (CS) portals but this will not grant an increased pattern at the start of your next Journey .

Full Embroidery [ ]

A fully embroidered robe, also known as a Full Tier or Full Run, distinguishes Wayfarers who went through Journey three or more times.

Tier 1 Robe is available with zero runs and each run adds a tier until maximum is reached.

Robe Colors [ ]

The terms "cloak" and "robe" are used and understood interchangeably by the Journey community members and mean the same thing.

Robes with low Tier could also be an experienced player who reset their game. See Companions .

Red Robe [ ]

Red Robe (also known as Red Cloak) is the default color that all Wayfarers wear.

With Red Robe, scarf power can be recharged using cloth creatures or Companions, but won't regenerate when simply walking on the ground alone. Thus, a Red Robe's movement is more limited compared to the White Robe.

White Robe [ ]

A Wayfarer who has found all the Symbols gains access to the White Robe.

Note: Your robe will not automatically switch colors when you pick up the last Symbol. You would need to switch to it at the Wardrobe in Chapter Select after completing that Journey.

A White Robe Journeyer would usually have a fully embroidered Robe, but it is possible to get a White Robe with lower tiers if you manage to collect all the Symbols within one Journey .

Wayfarer Comparison [ ]

  • Red Robe has no mouth-line.
  • White Robe shows a V-shaped yellow line below the eyes.
  • Thus, the White Robe is less dependent on cloth creatures or a Companion to fly.
  • "The white scarf stops growing before the tower" [2] if it has reached maximum length (you collected enough symbols and the scarf wasn't torn by the War Machines).
  • For more information about maximum Scarf length and comparison to red Scarf, see Maximum scarf length .

  • If a White Traveller game session starts a New Journey, they will be white. Normally, new journeys start as Red. (PS3 only)
  • Starting as White and not picking symbols will yield the same shortest scarf as Red starts with when going to a level.
  • Pressing Start Journey after just finishing a Journey skips the Opening by moving the camera to the player's Red Robe sitting position ready to stand up.
  • In early concept art and development versions for Journey, the protagonist looked like a ninja warrior as noted by the developers.
  • It gained prominence after the Collector's Edition release, but is not an official name of the species in Journey.
  • In early concepts, a Wayfarer would travel in a Red robe and turn White in Paradise. [3]
  • In developer versions, robe embroideries were given to the Wayfarer by Ancestors at each level's final cinematic, along with extra scarf length.

A doohickey is an item or object that can be confused with a whatchamacallit or a thing-a-mabob. A glyph CAN be a pictograph so the story walls could be called glyphs as well, although I find that sort of balderdash confusing. Damnit! Balderdash is not to be confused with a glyph or symbols or whatchamacallits. Ugh, I'm calling it quits. Watch YouTube as recommended. ;)

The glyphs are the story walls that you activate with chirps/movement, and which give you a pictorial history of your ancestors. The symbols are the glowing, floating doohickeys that when you touch, increase the length of your scarf. <3 :TravelerWalking:

Originally posted by star : Thank you for your answers. But I meant picture on the robe, not color. :) Btw I noticed that progressing the robe is just finishing the game once again. So there is no way to get white robe level 1 (with default picture), because you have to finish the game at least once (i.e. to get level 2). Otherwise you won't have access to Chapter Select and white robe. Right?
Originally posted by Onion Budgie : Ok, so my last post censored an extremely mild word, said in good humour, so I must ask you please to exchange that word for "silly", because that's apparently all that Steam will allow. Your silly head. Chirp it off. >:(

This wiki has been largely inactive and provides limited information. There are two newer wikis that aim to provide a broader scope of information, including information on the PC and iOS versions, advanced techniques, glitches, and out-of-bounds areas.

The Gamepedia wiki has been around longer and has more information. The ShoutWiki is newer and has fewer features but has more focus on organization, and is on track to catch up with the Gamepedia version.

It's recommended to try out one or both of these newer wikis. Feel free to use whichever one you prefer.

After seeing 34 major league stadiums, Cleveland still stands out for Kevin Yanik

journey game robe

Former News-Messenger sportswriter Kevin Yanik has seen a regular season or postseason game at 34 MLB ballparks. There are only 30 active teams.

But everywhere Yanik goes, somehow it all comes back to Cleveland.

"Seeing Kenny Lofton, Albert Belle, Jim Thome, Omar Vizquel, Manny Ramirez," Yanik said. "Seeing them in that park as I'm coming into my fandom, it came together at the perfect time and influenced who I am.

"Those years shaped and defined my love for the game and it set the bar when I go to another park."

Volleyball SJCC's Woolf continues career at Keystone College

Follow every MLB game: Latest MLB scores, stats, schedules and standings.

The 1990s was an electric time to fall in love with baseball for a young fan in Cleveland. While much has changed, highlighted by the fact Yanik has seen a game at 34 parks, some things remain the same.

"It's 30 years old, one of the oldest parks," he said of Progressive Field. "It's still one of the nicest places to watch a game in the country. As a fan of Cleveland baseball, I've seen more wins in that park than people saw in their lifetime, predating 1994.

"It's an iconic park with a team behind it. That's what I look for and in most cases it doesn't exceed that."

Top 10 list Former News-Messenger sportswriter ranks his favorite MLB parks

Yanik saw the first game he remembers at Cleveland Municipal Stadium with his uncle Ross Christoph in the late 1980s.

"I remember seeing Robin Yount and Nolan Ryan pitching for the Rangers, must have been early 1990s," Yanik said. "In 1992 or 1993, Randy Johnson signed a glove for me. He was huge. I didn't realize how huge of a star he was."

Yanik wasn't there, but he remembers that Johnson started against Cleveland when Jacobs Field, now Progressive, opened on April 4, 1994.

"In April I saw the new stadium against Kansas City," Yanik said. "The old stadium was drear and drabby. (Jacobs) upped my love for baseball. The team in the 1990s won six division titles in seven years and went to two World Series."

Yanik appreciates Christoph's role in his baseball journey. He also credits studying all of those baseball cards while putting them into all of those sleeves with helping him learn and understand the game.

"Seeing his love for the game," Yanik said of his uncle, "I loved to hang out with him and that's what he loved to do. Then the 1990s catapulted my love for the game. That may be the franchise's best era in history. Jacobs Field/Progressive Field is something most Cleveland fans are proud of.

"It used to be jokes about the team at the old stadium. The old stadium was dank, the team was poor, 41 years between pennants. Everything about the franchise and the old stadium seemed drab. At Jacobs, I'm a 10-year-old boy, it made me realize baseball is a game that can be played in a beautiful venue.

"There were new possibilities. It was the crown jewel."

Of all Yanik's games, his favorite leaps out: Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.

"I was fortunate to go to all four home games. We won Game 1. We lost Games 2 and 6," he said. "It came down to Game 7 with two of the most iconic franchises in history; the Cubs and Indians. The idea of being in the ballpark with my best friend and my ex-wife, experiencing that together with the team I rooted for more than any other was the pinnacle of what being a fan is about.

"Seeing that with people you love, I don't know how it gets any better."

Yes, it's bittersweet.

"Dexter Fowler's leadoff home run sucked the wind out of the park," he said. "(Later the score was) 5-1, it didn't seem like we were going to get it done. The Cubs had the momentum.

"Then, Rajai Davis represented the tying run against Aroldis Chapman, maybe the best left-handed reliever in history against a player probably lucky to be on the postseason roster. It was an epic at-bat. Eight pitches. He cleared the wall and I remember the bedlam. From then on, I remember the excitement and I knew we were going to win.

"The rain delay turned the tide; the rest is history. You can't beat that. If that's the best I get, it's better than 99% of fans out there."

With having been to so many parks, how does Yanik evaluate them?

"I want to experience the park," he said. "Maybe, the best experience is nine innings in an infield box seat. But I'll buy a ticket in the upper deck and move around to experience the park from all angles and see things you wouldn't in that one seat."

He crossed Globe Life Field in Texas off his list this month. Yanik always hopes to see as many stars as possible at every game, but he missed not seeing Max Scherzer's return from the injured list by two days, even though he's seen Scherzer in person plenty of times.

He wants the luxury all around in all aspects of the game.

"I walk around, sneak into seats if I can," he said. "I usually only get to see one game, two if I'm lucky. I'm there nine innings, I want to make it an experience of variety. When I go in, I have an initial opinion. When I come out, I know what third it's in.

"Texas is the newest, I'd put it in my bottom third. The experience, who you're with, your connection to the city, what happened at that ballpark has an influence on where the park is on my list."

Bottom 5 list Former Messenger sportswriter ranks his worst ballpark experiences

That's why Yanik adores the Metrodome. Even if you remember it, he still means it.

"You probably had people yearning for outdoor baseball," he said. "There were garbage bags on the walls. The 1991 World Series, that may have been the best World Series ever, in that building. Seeing that stadium transported me back to a 7-year-old kid.

"I love the old parks, it's sad there are too few of them left."

Yanik checked one ballpark off his list that very few could.

"I saw a game in Buffalo's triple-A park," he said. "It was COVID and the Blue Jays couldn't go back to Canada."

The first park Yanik saw outside Cleveland, possibly before Jacobs, was at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.

"I saw Ozzie Smith," Yanik said. "The turf. 'This is the weirdest thing.' It was so cool, you see those places on TV."

The only remaining parks Yanik has yet to visit outside of his living room are San Francisco, Seattle, Arizona and New York (Mets). He's actually seen all but Seattle in person, but never inside.

"Unless I see a game, it doesn't count," he said. "There's nothing in the works for this season, maybe the Mets. San Francisco looks beautiful. I just haven't been there when there's a game (then). When the list does close, there will probably be a new city.

"Each franchise in their home ballpark is a check, but I like to see bonus parks."

Of course, Yanik's young children have experienced their first game. Amelia saw the Twins and Noah the Marlins in Cleveland.

"I wish I had those details for myself," he said of the uncertainty of his specific first game.

It will more than make up for it when Noah's list begins to grow. Las Vegas here they come.

DENVER (AP) — Dalton Knecht has always packed one thing with him throughout his cross-country, multi-school basketball journey — a chip on his shoulder.

Feeling overlooked has powered the guard from Colorado along his stops at Northeastern Junior College (Colorado), Northern Colorado and Tennessee . Knecht is coming off his final college season during which he averaged 21.7 points with the Volunteers, earned All-America honors and received shout-outs from none other than his idol, Kevin Durant.

That determination has Knecht (pronounced “connect”) on the precipice of becoming a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft . The most recent Associated Press mock draft projects him as going to the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 9.

“I feel like I’ve been underrated my entire life,” Knecht said in a recent interview with the AP. “I feel like people counted me out. Proving people wrong was my biggest thing, and always stepping on the court knowing that I’m the best player and just going out and proving it. Making sure that when the game’s over, they say Dalton was the best player.”

Friendly words of advice from his coaches travel with him, too.

From Eddie Trenkle at Northeastern Junior College: Work harder when no one’s watching.

From Steve Smiley at Northern Colorado: Be consistent every day.

From Rick Barnes at Tennessee: Focus on the little things.

From mom and dad, his biggest fans: Dream big.

He’s melded all that together.

For being here, in this position, he credits a growth spurt that took him from 5-foot-8 in high school to 6-6 now. He also gives an assist to the lockdown defense of Zoe, the family’s dog, whenever he dribbled around the house.

And that chip.

Coming out of Prairie View High School in Henderson, Colorado, he didn’t receive a ton of offers because, “I didn’t have a name for myself,” he explained.

That would change.

Knecht spent two seasons at the junior college in Sterling, Colorado, earning NJCAA All-America honors his sophomore year after averaging 23.9 points.

To this day, a piece of advice from Trenkle stays with him.

“He was like, ‘When people are sleeping, get yourself in the gym and work,’” Knecht recalled.

Trenkle remembered how after home games, and long after the fans filed out, Knecht would take the court again to hone an aspect of his game. For instance, a mid-range jumper.

“When you say gym rat, he’s the epitome,” Trenkle said. “He’s fought his way to the top wherever he’s been.”

Trenkle is convinced Knecht would’ve landed at a Power Five school after his time in Sterling had it not been for the coronavirus pandemic. He sang the praises of Knecht to coaches any chance he got.

“I’m sure there are some people like, ‘Man, I probably should’ve taken that call from Coach Trenkle,” joked Trenkle, who’s been the head coach of the Plainsmen since 2006.

That opened the door for Northern Colorado, a program which resides in the Big Sky Conference and is about an hour from where his family lived. Knecht spent two years with the Bears, winning the league’s scoring title his senior season by averaging 20.2 points.

He took from Greeley the advice of Smiley.

“He told me, ‘Be consistent every single day and keep growing on top of that,’” said Knecht, who’s been invited to the draft.

With one season of eligibility left, Knecht threw his name into the transfer portal. He was sold on Tennessee after attending the spring football game on his recruiting trip.

“I wanted to go to a place where I could make a fun run in March,” Knecht said.

Plus, he wanted to play for Barnes, who coached his favorite NBA player, Durant, when the coach and player were at Texas.

“Coach Barnes is just that guy who will push everybody to their best,” said Knecht, who’s been traversing the country for predraft workouts. “I told him when I came on my visit that I want to be pushed super-hard.”

That demeanor pushed Knecht to new heights as he was named to the AP men’s college basketball All-America team, in addition to earning SEC player of the year accolades.

“No one could’ve projected what he’s done,” Barnes said during the NCAA Tournament as the Volunteers advanced to the Elite Eight before losing to Purdue in a game where Knecht had 37 points.

His big game against the Boilermakers and big man Zach Edey got him on the radar of LeBron James, who mentioned Knecht in an interview.

“LeBron saying my name? That’s crazy,” Knecht recalled . “It was a cool moment.”

So was Durant praising Knecht after one of his numerous high-scoring contests (Knecht had eight games with 30 or more points, including 40 against Kentucky).

From Knoxville, he will take the words of wisdom from Barnes.

“He’s like, take care of the little details,” Knecht said. “I’ve just believed in myself and stayed confident. Great friends and family members have helped me as well as coaches and teammates. ... I’m ready.”
