Milky Chance are a German folk and rock duo from Kassel in Germany. They are best friends and met when they were at high school.

Milky chance consist of members, vocalist Clemens Rehbein and musician and Philipp Dausch who are also both DJ's. Their musical influences combine reggae with electronic and pop and folk genres to make their own original sound.

The German pair met at secondary school at the Jacob Grimm Schule in Kassel. During their school years they bonded and were both in a jazz quartet named Flown Tones. Clemens played the bass guitar and Philipp was the guitarist. However, the group broke up after their drummer decided to leave. Clemens and Philip decided ot keep making music together and found a style of their own. Combining a sound they describe as 'elegant electronic production'.

The German school friends are signed to record label Lichtdicht Records which is based in their home town of Kassel. With the help of the record label, Milky Chance went on to record and then release their debut album "Sadnecessary" in 2013.

After the success of their album, the pair turned their skills to YouTube and decided to upload their first single "Stolen Dance" to see what reaction it would get. The single contains bright handclaps and plaintive acoustic guitars, which consequently led to the song becoming a viral sensation around the world. The song impressively reached over 30 million views. The album then became a huge success which subsequently led Milky chance to numerous European tours.

Live reviews

One of the most chilled yet addictive artists of the decade, let alone the year, Milky Chance is the quintessential lying-on-the-beach-soaking-up-the-sun-loving-life artist. Tunes ‘Stolen Dance’ and ‘Down by the River’ are outrageously catchy and summer perfect: try closing your eyes and swaying to either tune and it is only too easy to drift off to some magical, far away land where life is breezy and the sun is always shining. Every festival-goers dream, Milky Chance provide a relaxed, chilled and fun atmosphere. Their music is uplifting, almost spiritually so. Singles ‘Stolen Dance’, ‘Down by the River’, ‘Flashed Junk Mind’ and ‘Fairytale’ were all a hit with the crowd and personal favourites. Consisting of Clemens Rehbein as vocalist/musician and Philipp Dausch as DJ, Milky Chance can best be described as a reggae/pop/folk hybrid: producing a genre of music so distinct that it almost deserves its own name. Leading man Rehbein, from his raspy vocals to his electrocuted hair, oozes cool. Add in the guitar and assisting DJ and you have a recipe for indie success. What is perhaps most distinct about this duo is the raw, untainted quality of Rehbein’s voice. Beautifully rough, his vocals blew me away and left me desperate for more.

Milky Chance, otherwise known as Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch are one of the most exciting acts working in Germany at the moment. Their first single 'Stolen Dance' gained them international recognition as it charted across Europe and the US. The reggae and electro influence on their downtempo sound has allowed them to stand out from the market and won them critical acclaim from a number of esteemed publications.

The charismatic duo have been touring and recording since 2012 so they have had great experience and practice in their short career. Now a well trained live act, the music on 'Sadnecessary' is minimalistic yet still danceable so the audience tend to be moving throughout.

Big cheers erupt for 'Down by the River' a cult hit of sorts as the fans appear to have hand picked this as an early favourite. The boys capitalise on the enthusiasm and encourage the crowd to dance along to the next track, 'Stolen Dance'. The audience bounces along and whilst watching this unfold you get a great feeling for the potential this exciting new band has.

It was worth going but not the best.

Great to see Antonio recognized as a full band member - he really adds a lot to live shows. Disappointed to see the band employ a drummer in addition to Philipp's tech-y beats, as I think in a funny kinda way seemed to suck much of the life out of their music.

The new album, to be honest, is quite boring - but to balance it there was also some great stuff to hear from Sadnecessary - including an incredible encore of Stolen Dance and Sweet Sun.

Whether or not I go see them again will depend on the quality of their next album - having seen this I'm currently unsure.

This was an exceptional concert. My friend and I were able to push right up to the front so we got a great view of everything. One thing that I thought was interesting, was that the songs live were much more abstract than the songs I had heard on the radio/Spotify. Since Milky Chance was in a concert setting, they were able to play around a bit more. They added guitar riffs there, harmonica solos here and generally showed off their musical abilities. It was awesome. I have a completely new appreciation for their music. If you have the chance to see Milky Chance, take it.

My partner is a huge fan of these guys. I love a few of their songs but find their albums a bit repetitive........however after seeing them live in Glasgow I’m looking and listening to them differently.

THEY WERE AWSOME live. They played pretty much non stop for 1 hour and 45 minutes. They gave the impression they didn’t want to stop playing.

I would totally recommend anyone to see these guys live. TRUELY A GREAT LIVE BAND.

Would really like to see you Clemens in Atl. When you do arrive I'll be there. I was in a grocery store in Macon Ga. Looking for flowers. I hear mellow almost New Orleans sit back reserve sound. This was just a few years ago. I later looked up the song noticed he was simply sitting ' singing and stringing to a plant. That's when I became an instant Milky Chance fan. I love his work. That's pretty much all I need to say.

It was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Left me speechless. The atmosphere was so warm and left me only good emotions. I would definitely like to see them again and again. They just have this amazing energy that I haven’t seen in any group so far. Love their music and I can’t wait for them to come back to Lithuania, hope this time to Kaunas, and give us the same energy that they gave in Vilnius. :)

Ouuffff!! The milky boys never fail to deliver. Seriously, if you're looking to have a good time, you gotta see them live. Such great performances and they are very engaged with the audience. Also, props to them for their initiative in trying to become more sustainable/eco-friendly. Really impressed by their transparency on that.

The Milky Chance concert was great! We had a fantastic time and the finale was awesome. There were a song or two in the beginning that the base was extremely loud to the point my entire body was vibrating (little too loud). Besides that the lights, music, and crowd was awesome! Thank you for an amazing evening. :)

chantal-zivari’s profile image

They were so amazing live. I’d say their music isn’t the type you sing at the top of your lungs during their concert but then entire show just had bumping music and good vibes.better to dance too. And they’re all so in love with their music you can see it in their body language. I absolutely adored them!

Sameer Gadhia belts into a microphone.

Young The Giant is having a giant year.

The popular indie rockers just completed the first leg of their summer tour, dropped their four-song EP “Both Sides” and are now gearing up for the second half of their nationwide trek .

From July 13 through Nov. 11, the group that brought the world “Cough Syrup” and “Mind Over Matter” will play venues all over North America with co-headliners Milky Chance .

That includes stops in major cities like Nashville , Miami , Houston , Phoenix and San Diego .

We’re most excited about some of the ticket prices we found online though.

At the time of publication, some tickets were going for as low as $25 before fees on Vivid Seats.

By our estimation, that’s a steal to catch two of the biggest indie groups around on a single night.

Want to find out how much tickets will run you at the show closest to you?

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about Young The Giant and Milky Chance’s 2023 summer tour below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Young The Giant 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar including all upcoming tour dates, venues and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Milky Chance

Young The Giant’s co-headliner is fairly accomplished in their own right.

Known for the ubiquitous single “Stolen Dance,” the German rockers have released four studio albums since their 2012 formation.

Most recently, they dropped the ultra-catchy record “Living In A Haze.”

You can hear it here .

Opening acts

On the first leg of the tour, Talk opened for YTG and MC.

Now, that the groups have made it to leg two, Rosa Linn will take over special guest duties.

The 23-year-old Armenian singer-songwriter, who just toured with Ed Sheeran on his stadium tour, broke out in a big way with her supremely popular track “SNAP” in 2022.

if you want to do a deep dive, her catalog is ready to be listened to now .

Young The Giant set list

Longtime and new fans will be pleasantly surprised to find that Sameer Gadhia and co. play all the hits from the group’s two decades together at live shows.

For a closer look, here’s a set list from Young The Giant’s most recent gig courtesy of Set List FM .

Young The Giant new music

In November 2022, Young The Giant dropped the cinematic “American Bollywood.”

Over 16 tracks, the band plays tribute to Indian culture while also maintaining their soaring indie sound that helped them explode onto the mainstream.

You can hear the powerful record in its entirety here .

Should you opt to go even more recent, the aforementioned four-song EP “Both Sides Now” featuring live and acoustic versions of “Dancing In The Rain,” “The Walk Home” and “Both Sides Now” can be listened to too.
