What are the Bus Classes & Prices of Neeta Travels?

The price of your bus trip will depend both on the destination and the class of your ticket. Note that not all ticket classes are available on certain routes yet for longer trips there is almost always a good choice of options. Opt for a sleeper coach for the most convenient overnight trip. Sleeper buses are usually equipped with berths or soft reclining seats, feature an onboard toilet and your ticket may also include other perks like snacks or even a lunch. Taking a night bus is also a good idea if you want to save on your hotel room. During the day an express service is often the best value for money as it makes less stops than an ordinary or standard class bus and travels faster. On some routes it may be crucial to choose the right class as, say, an ordinary or second class bus may need some 6 hours to cover the distance the first class or express bus travels in two hours!

Pros & Cons of Bus Travel

Pros of bus travel.

Buses usually boast the widest network of destinations covered. They travel to the places you cannot get to by plane or even by train

Travelling by bus is easy – there is no need to arrive to the bus terminal much in advance, and the check-in is usually a very fast formality opposite to air travel

Bus tickets are very affordable. Yes, there are costly first class or VIP options but is you are on a budget, bus is the first means of transportation you have to think about

At the same time, there are different classes of service to suit any budget. If you are after a higher level of comfort, buses get you covered, too.

Cons of Bus Travel

Intercity bus terminals can be located outside the city centre in the outskirts. It means you will need to calculate extra time and money to get there. In certain destinations getting from the bus terminal can cost you more than you would expect because only a limited number of transportation companies is allowed to serve the route – and prices may be inflated.

During busy weekends or high season buses serving some tourist destinations may run out of schedule and require advanced booking.

While buses are not as weather dependent as ferries, bus trips can also be delayed or cancelled due to bad weather or road conditions – keep it in mind if travelling during certain seasons or to certain destinations.

Increased Risk of Dengue Virus Infections in the United States

Health Alert Network logo.

Distributed via the CDC Health Alert Network June 25, 2024, 2:30 PM ET CDCHAN-00511

Summary The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing this Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to notify healthcare providers, public health authorities and the public of an increased risk of dengue virus (DENV) infections in the United States in 2024. Global incidence of dengue in 2024 has been the highest on record for this calendar year; many countries are reporting higher-than-usual dengue case numbers . In 2024, countries in the Americas have reported a record-breaking number of dengue cases, exceeding the highest number ever recorded in a single year. From January 1 – June 24, 2024, countries in the Americas reported more than 9.7 million dengue cases, twice as many as in all of 2023 (4.6 million cases). In the United States, Puerto Rico has declared a public health emergency (1,498 cases) and a higher-than-expected number of dengue cases have been identified among U.S. travelers (745 cases) from January 1 – June 24, 2024. In the setting of increased global and domestic incidence of dengue, healthcare providers should take steps including:

  • Have increased suspicion of dengue among people with fever who have been in areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission within 14 days before illness onset,
  • Order appropriate diagnostic tests for acute DENV infection: reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction [RT-PCR] and IgM antibody tests, or non-structural protein 1 [NS1] antigen tests and IgM antibody tests,
  • Ensure timely reporting of dengue cases to public health authorities, and
  • Promote mosquito bite prevention measures among people living in or visiting areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission.

Background Dengue is the most common arboviral disease globally. It is caused by four distinct but closely related dengue viruses (DENV-1, -2, -3, and -4). DENVs are transmitted through bites of infected Aedes species mosquito vectors. Infection with one DENV generally induces life-long protection against infection from that specific DENV but only protects against other DENVs for several months to years. Dengue is a nationally notifiable disease in the United States. Six U.S. territories and freely associated states are classified as areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission : Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. In the rest of the United States, local transmission of DENV has been limited, with sporadic cases or small outbreaks in Florida, Hawaii, and Texas. However, confirmed local DENV transmission has also been reported by Arizona and California over the past two years.

Approximately one in four DENV infections are symptomatic and can be mild or severe. Symptoms begin after an incubation period of 5–7 days (range 3–10 days) and present as fever accompanied by non-specific signs and symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, rash, muscle aches, joint pain, bone pain, pain behind the eyes, headache, or low white blood cell counts. Warning signs are specific clinical findings that predict progression to severe disease. Warning signs include abdominal pain or tenderness, persistent vomiting, clinical fluid accumulation (e.g., ascites, pleural effusion), mucosal bleeding, lethargy or restlessness, progressive increase of hematocrit, or liver enlargement >2cm. Severe disease, with associated severe bleeding, shock or respiratory distress caused by plasma leakage, or end-organ impairment, develops in 1 in 20 people with symptomatic dengue. Infants aged ≤1 year, pregnant people, adults aged ≥65 years, and people with certain medical conditions are at increased risk of severe dengue. Although a second DENV infection (i.e., with a different DENV from the first infection) carries a higher risk of severe disease than a first, third, or fourth infection, any infection can lead to severe disease.

Patients with symptoms compatible with dengue can be tested with both molecular and serologic diagnostic tests. All patients with suspected DENV infection should be tested with RT-PCR (i.e., a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT)) or a NS1 antigen test, and also with IgM antibody test to confirm DENV infection. These tests can be considered regardless of the symptom onset date, although the test sensitivity of RT-PCR and NS1 antigen tests decrease after the first 7 days. IgG detection by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a single serum sample should not be used to diagnose a patient with acute dengue because it does not distinguish between current and previous DENV infection. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved testing is available at public health laboratories and some commercial laboratories. State, tribal, territorial, and local health departments, and CDC can offer additional testing guidance.

There are no antiviral medications approved to treat dengue. Treatment is supportive and requires careful volume management. Appropriate triage, management, and follow-up remain the most effective interventions to reduce dengue morbidity and mortality. Expectant management of patients at high risk for severe disease and rapid initiation of a standardized fluid replacement strategy recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) can decrease mortality from 13% to <1%. In June 2021, the Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices recommended a dengue vaccine, Dengvaxia , for children aged 9–16 years with laboratory confirmation of previous DENV infection and living in areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission such as Puerto Rico. While the vaccine is considered safe and effective, the manufacturer (Sanofi Pasteur, Inc., Paris France) has discontinued production citing a lack of demand. Vaccine administration will continue in Puerto Rico until available doses expire in 2026.There are no vaccines recommended for travelers, adults, or persons without a previous DENV infection.

Dengue cases resurged globally after the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, more than 4.6 million cases and 4000 deaths were reported in the Americas region. As of June 24, 2024, more than 9.7 million dengue cases have been reported in the Americas, twice as many as in all of 2023 (4.6 million cases). Dengue transmission peaks during the warmer and wetter months in many tropical and subtropical regions. Dengue cases are likely to increase as global temperatures increase. Higher temperatures can expand the range of the mosquitoes that spread dengue, as well as affect other factors that facilitate virus transmission like faster viral amplification in the mosquito, increased vector survival, and changes in reproduction and biting rates. U.S. summer travel often overlaps with the months of increased dengue activity in many countries. Epidemics in the Americas region increase travel-associated cases and limited local transmission in the continental United States. A higher-than-expected number of dengue cases (total of 2,241 cases, including 1,498 in Puerto Rico) were reported in the United States from January 1 – June 24, 2024. Public health authorities in Puerto Rico declared a public health emergency in March 2024 because of the high number of cases reported during the low dengue season. Healthcare providers should be prepared to recognize, diagnose, manage, and report dengue cases to public health authorities; public health partners should investigate cases and disseminate clear prevention messages to the public. The CDC is actively implementing several strategies to address the increase in cases of dengue in the United States, including:

  • Launching a program-led emergency response, which was activated on April 8, 2024.
  • Providing regularly scheduled monthly situational updates on dengue to partners, stakeholders, and jurisdictions.
  • Expanding laboratory capacity to improve laboratory testing approaches.
  • Collaborating with State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Health Departments to strengthen dengue surveillance and recommend prevention strategies.
  • Educating the public on dengue prevention.

Recommendations for Healthcare Providers

  • Maintain a high suspicion for dengue among patients with fever and recent travel (within 14 days before illness onset) to areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission .
  • Consider locally acquired dengue among patients who have signs and symptoms highly compatible with dengue (e.g., fever, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, aches, pains, rash) in areas with competent mosquito vectors .
  • Order appropriate FDA-approved dengue tests (RT-PCR and IgM antibody tests, or NS1 and IgM antibody tests), and do not delay treatment waiting for test results to confirm dengue.
  • Know the warning signs for progression to severe dengue, which include abdominal pain or tenderness, persistent vomiting, clinical fluid accumulation, mucosal bleeding, lethargy or restlessness, and liver enlargement.
  • For people with suspected dengue who do not have warning signs and are not part of a population at high risk for severe dengue, consider outpatient management with close follow-up.
  • Teach patients about the warning signs that may appear as their fever starts to decline and instruct them to seek care urgently if they experience any warning signs.
  • Recognize the critical phase of dengue. The critical phase begins when fever starts to decline and lasts for 24–48 hours. During this phase, some patients require close monitoring and may deteriorate within hours without appropriate intravenous (IV) fluid management.
  • Hospitalize patients with severe dengue or any warning sign of progression to severe dengue and follow CDC/WHO protocols for IV fluid management .
  • Follow local guidelines to report dengue cases to state, tribal, local, or territorial health departments.

Recommendations for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Health Departments

  • Use FDA-approved dengue tests. Ensure access to dengue testing for all patients with suspected dengue.
  • Remind clinicians of the high risk of dengue among patients with fever who have been in areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission .
  • Remind clinicians that local transmission can occur in areas with competent vectors and to test patients with compatible illnesses even without a history of having been in an area with dengue.
  • Inform healthcare providers and the public when locally acquired and travel-associated dengue cases are detected in the area.
  • Report dengue cases to CDC via ArboNET , the national arboviral surveillance system managed by CDC and state health departments.
  • Take the lead in investigating dengue cases and outbreaks.
  • Consider targeted outreach about increasing dengue risk to healthcare providers more likely to identify dengue cases (i.e., travel medicine clinics, infectious disease physicians, or healthcare systems serving highly mobile populations such as migrant and border health clinics, and clinics with frequent travelers to areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission) and messaging to populations at higher risk for dengue.

Recommendations for the Public

  • Use Environmental Protection Agency-approved repellents during travel to and after returning from areas with frequent or continuous dengue transmission.
  • Wear loose-fitting, long-sleeved pants and shirts.
  • Use air conditioning and window screens when possible, to lower risk for mosquito bites indoors.
  • Dump and drain containers that hold water to reduce mosquito egg-laying sites in your home and neighborhood.
  • Seek medical care if you have a fever or have dengue symptoms and live in or traveled to an area with dengue outbreaks .
  • If you plan international travel to a an area with frequent or continuous dengue transmission , protect yourself from mosquito bites during and after your trip.

London’s Friday travel discount had limited effect on capital’s commuters

Cathy Chen in London

Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.

A £24mn trial to boost Friday trips into central London with subsidised tickets only slightly increased passenger numbers on the capital’s Underground network, data shows.

The number of Friday journeys on the London Underground during the “Let’s Do Fridays” trial between March 8 and May 31 increased 3 per cent year on year, according to Transport for London data.

The scheme offered commuters discounted off-peak Tube and rail fares all day on Fridays, and was launched by London mayor Sadiq Khan to boost passenger numbers and the wider economy in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Average Underground passenger numbers on Fridays during the trial period increased from 3.22mn last year to 3.32mn this year, the data shows.

The trial’s failure to significantly increase passenger numbers has raised questions over the value of the £24mn scheme.

Jon Tabbush, senior researcher at the Centre for London think-tank, said the trial was a useful experiment but the effects and scale were limited.

“There are political reasons for doing it,” he added, referring to criticism from opponents of the scheme that it had been timed ahead of the mayoral election on May 2 to score political points.

Commuting on the Underground at peak times from Zone 6 to Zone 1 costs ÂŁ5.60 per journey but over the trial, the price dropped to ÂŁ3.60.

Tabbush said the discount simply was not big enough to shift the needle for commuting professionals, adding that people were more likely to make decisions based on convenience, service reliability and whether they have in-person meetings.

He added that it was “good for the whole country for cities to be able to test out these ideas and monitor their results”.

Nick Tyler, director of the Centre for Transport Studies research centre at University College London, said the trial had not made a substantive difference to the number of Tube trips made.

He said the ideal was to have a “more civilised life by freeing up the working day, away from the 19th-century factory model”, by promoting flexible working and spreading journeys throughout the day.

Tyler said the experiment had addressed the symptoms rather than the problems themselves. “We should . . . figure out how to make the transport system fit with the people rather than force the people to fit the transport system,” he added.

Khan had previously said the trial was being introduced “to support the hospitality, culture and retail sectors as we continue building a better more prosperous London for everyone”.

TfL said: “We continue to analyse the impact of our trial of off-peak pay-as-you-go fares on Tube and rail services on a Friday, which ended on 31 May 2024.

“This analysis will take into account a number of aspects including assessing changes to both morning peak ridership and overall daily ridership, as well as the impact to businesses across London.”

The annual number of Friday Tube journeys decreased by nearly two-thirds from 223mn in 2019 to 96mn in 2021 but it increased steadily to 172mn in 2023.

Khan’s office did not respond to a request to comment.

Physics Says Interdimensional Travel Like in 'Dark Matter' Could Work

Apple TV Plus subscribers can stream Dark Matter now.

  • Apple software beta tester, "Helps make our computers and phones work!" - Zach's grandparents

Dark Matter has some real scientific theories at its core.

Blake Crouch isn't a scientist, but that didn't stop him from including real scientific theories in his bestselling novel Dark Matter and the Apple TV Plus sci-fi thriller based on it. One theory that really stuck with him was that of alternate universes.

The cover for the book Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Dark Matter was originally published in 2016.

"I got really turned on by the idea of multiple realities and more so the science behind it," Crouch told me in an interview. "I [thought] it would be really cool to write a novel about quantum physics."

Crouch said he didn't take any science or math courses in college. So to incorporate quantum physics into the book and show, he worked with Clifford Johnson, a physics professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I talked with Johnson about the physics behind the fiction.

"It really is a compelling story all about the choices we make in our lives," Johnson said. "It's a real pleasure to see that much science upfront, and so I helped [Crouch] develop a lot of the ideas."

The main theory Dark Matter explores is that of the multiverse: the theory that there are infinite other universes beyond our own. To explore this theory, the show uses an interdimensional travel device called "the box."

The box is a hefty contraption that might not be as visually appealing as similar devices in other works of science fiction, like Back to the Future's DeLorean or Doctor Who's Tardis, but there are real theories behind how it might work. Who knows, maybe these theories will lead to breakthroughs in the world of physics, or maybe they already have in another universe.

How does the box work in Dark Matter?

Dark Matter's box is an example of an interdimensional travel device . According to TV Tropes , these kinds of devices allow a person or group of people to travel to another universe. That journey starts with the box.

In Dark Matter, characters enter the box -- which blocks out everything from the outside -- and take a mind-altering drug. Our characters then imagine the reality they want before exiting the box to a different universe. Johnson explained that the box is a way to visualize all possible outcomes for a superposed quantum state.

OK, explain it to me like I'm 5, please

Joel Edgerton's character Jason Dessen standing in front of the box

It's no DeLorean, but the box will still get you to another universe.

An easier way to understand this, and superposed quantum states, is by using the famous Schrödinger's cat thought experiment.

The gist of the experiment is you put a cat in a sealed box that you can't see into, along with something that can kill it, like poison or radioactive material. Then, because you can't interact with what's inside the box or see whether the item in the box killed the cat or not, you can't observe whether the cat is dead or alive at any given moment. Therefore the cat is both at the same time -- it's in a superposition of both dead and alive. Only after you've opened the box and observed the cat can you report on the cat's state.

Johnson said that the cat in the experiment has two possible outcomes -- alive or dead -- but when a person enters the box in Dark Matter, they have many outcomes they can choose from. Dark Matter's box is in essence the inverse of Schrödinger's cat. Instead of an observer not being able to see or interact with a small portion of reality, the observer can't see or interact with anything outside of a small portion of reality (the box).

So, the way the Dark Matter box works is that a person enters it, imagines the reality they want to be in with the help of a drug and then exits the box to the reality they constructed with their mind. While the person is in the box, they put themselves in a state of superposition among all the different realities, and the one they focus on becomes real once they observe it by leaving the box.

Could the box really work?

Dark Matter's box on the shore of a lake with the sun in the background

Maybe we'll invent a device like the box one day.

Maybe, but we may never know. Some people have posited theories on reality similar to those posed in Dark Matter.

"The guys who won the Nobel Prize for physics in [2022] were talking about nonlocality and the idea that objective reality doesn't exist," Crouch said. "There's no independent reality that is just hanging out there without conscious, biocentric beings observing it."

Others have said similar things. Robert Lanza , an adjunct professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, developed a theory of biocentrism that argues that consciousness is the driving force behind reality and the universe, not the other way around.

"Nothing has existence unless you, I, or some living creature perceives it," Lanza wrote in the American Scholar in 2007 . "The images you see are a construction by the brain. Everything you are experiencing right now … is being actively generated in your mind."

The biggest obstacle to proving these theories is building a device like the box. Crouch and Johnson both said designing the box was a challenge since it had to block out everything -- and I truly mean everything -- for a person to be in superposition.

"Things like temperature, anything above absolute zero," Crouch said. "Or neutrinos flying through our atmosphere, constantly flying through our bodies … Variations in wind, temperature, all these things…"

Any shifts in these variables would cause the box to simply be a hunk of metal since those shifts would act on the person inside the box, taking them out of a superposed state.

"We've never built anything like that and it's not clear that we really can," Johnson said. "But it's fun to imagine what that might look like if you could."

Are there any other ways to get to alternate universes if they exist?

If entering a state of superposition to enter into another reality seems a little too far out there, perhaps a black hole can help. This might sound as fantastical as Dark Matter's box, but renowned physicist Stephen Hawking entertained the idea. Hawking theorized that a black hole could function as a passage to somewhere else, including another universe.

"They are not the eternal prisons they were once thought," Hawking said in a 2008 lecture . "Things can get out of a black hole, both to the outside, and possibly, to another universe. So if you feel you are in a black hole, don't give up. There's a way out."

We don't know for certain what would happen if a person fell into a black hole, but Gaurav Khanna , a physics professor at the University of Rhode Island , told me in an interview that a person might be able to survive the encounter.

The Milky Way's black hole

Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

Khanna and a team of researchers found that if a person, or spacecraft, fell into a supermassive black hole, like Gargantua in the film Interstellar or Sagittarius A* in our own solar system, it might be a smooth and steady ride.

"While we don't know what the other side of a black hole connects to," Khanna said, "If we make a leap of faith and envision that the other side of a black hole connects to another part of our universe, or perhaps another dimension, then you could smoothly, without much discomfort, go from one to the other."

Khanna said that a black hole must meet three criteria for it to possibly function as a portal: it has to be considered supermassive, it has to be old and it must be rotating. If a black hole doesn't meet those requirements, like it's too small, well…

"The smaller [the black hole], the worse it's going to be," Khanna said. "Even if you go to a black hole the size of our sun, I don't think there's any hope of surviving."

So we could travel to other universes with the right conditions?

"This is not a blueprint on how to travel to other worlds," Crouch said. "This is a speculative idea that says, 'Oh if we had a few things, a few advances in these certain areas of technology, then perhaps we can start having a conversation about how macroscopic objects exist in a state of superposition.'"

If traveling to another universe by getting a person into a state of superposition like in Dark Matter proves unreliable, a supermassive black hole might do the trick.

"The door's open a little bit," Khanna said. "We have some understanding, experimentally, that this could actually work."

You can stream Dark Matter now on Apple TV Plus ( $10 a month ). You can also check out how February was the warmest February on record and what to know about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch .
