The tour was fun and informative. Mike and Footloose were fantastic and gave us great historical and current information about the city. We especially enjoyed the cemetery tour. We loved it and the fact that our mule, Footloose, was featured on NCIS New Orleans was a cool bonus.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Lucy our driver was fun and informative!! You could tell she enjoyed her job and that the company takes good care of their mules. We liked that we saw parts of New Orleans that we would not have seen had we walked around by ourselves

15 Best New Orleans Ghost Tours That Will Creep You Out

March 30, 2021 //  by  Southern Trippers

If you’re heading to the Big Easy and you’re looking for something spooky to do to pass the time we recommend you check out these terribly creepy New Orleans ghost tours!

There are plenty of haunted places in the South , but you can’t miss out on the chance to experience some of its ghastly histories firsthand while you’re visiting the most haunted city in the United States. From fires and hurricanes to infamous murderers and plagues, Crescent City has over 3 centuries of troubled past experiences that live around every street corner.

For a city that loves to indulge in all the pleasures life has to offer with its delicious food, party lifestyle, and ubiquitous street musicians providing New Orleans with its own soundtrack it can’t seem to escape its dark past.

After going on one of these ghost tours in New Orleans, you might find out exactly why. No matter what haunted spots you choose to explore, we recommend you tread carefully and with respect, some of the city’s oldest spirits don’t like to be mocked!

Don’t forget to check out some of the most Haunted Hotels in New Orleans!

New Orleans Ghost, Voodoo & Vampire Walking Tour

Ghosts, voodoo, and vampires oh my! With so many New Orleans ghost tours to go on, why not fit as many scary tales with The New Orleans Ghost, Voodoo, & Vampire Walking Tour in one night as possible?

If you’re looking to walk around the city at night led by knowledgeable experts this is the tour for you. Visitors will start at the French Quarter and end up in Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar (one of New Orlean’s oldest structures) all while listening to real-life tales of witches, vampires, and ghosts that lurk around every corner.

When you’re looking to see a little bit of everything that the city’s spooky history has to offer without getting overwhelmed by walking through the dark streets all on your own.

Lewd Spirits Haunted Tour & Bar Stops

One of the more unique ghost tours in New Orleans, the Lewd Spirits Haunted Tour & Bar Stops takes guests on an adult-only expedition where you’ll learn all about the city’s more indelicate past and hopefully meet the ghosts of those who refuse to let go of these indecorous betrayals.

Walk around some of the city’s seedier spots with a cheeky tour guide who will gladly enlighten you on the scandalous histories of spots like New Orleans Creole Cookery (where adultery lead to murder) and May Baily’s place (The Big Easy’s first licensed bordello).

If you’re looking for a mix of the spooky and indelicate, then we recommend you enjoy this nighttime tour where spirits and spirits collide. We still aren’t convinced there is a single bar in New Orleans that isn’t haunted.

French Quarter Ghost Tour

Of all the  NOLA ghost tours visitors can choose we recommend French Quarter Ghost Tour to anyone who is looking for a level-headed and academically inclined experience.

Head to the French Quarter to meet your tour guide (who will have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in history) for a two-hour jaunt around historical spots like Sultan’s Palace. You’ll find very little theatricality on this expedition, but plenty of occult history shared by college professors, history teachers, and history students.

Does knowing that your tour guide is a well-learned academic make the tour less scary? Or does it mean that there’s enough proof to make even the most questioning minds believe in the paranormal?

The tour is kid friendly and guests may bring their own alcoholic beverages.

Learn about all the history, culture, and architecture in addition to the ghostly spirits that refuse to leave.

Know More about this tour

This authentic mode of transportation will help you time-travel back to the 1700s and 1800s when death and disease were rampant due to devastating fires, floods, murders, and more! Being that there are only 8-passengers on-board the carriage, the mule-drawn adventure is more intimate and unforgettable. The carriage-driving tour guides are top-rated licensed guides who have been sending chills down spines for over 75 years. Meet and board at the carriage stand located at 700 Decatur Street. As your carriage departs from Jackson Square, your driver/guide will regale you with stories of the city's founding as the carriage passes through the historic French Quarter street. Travel past landmarks such as Saint Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, Napoleon House, and more as the carriage wind through New Orleans' oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter. Expect stories that are both historical, entertaining and appropriate for all visitors. It's important to understand the history so that you can understand the spirits that haunt the buildings. New Orleans is considered to be the most haunted city in America. Countless tragedies have happened right in the French Quarter, including devastating floods and fires killing thousands, contagious epidemics resulting in thousands of deaths, and other odd occurrences like weird human torture experiments, medical experiments, love lost, and more. These stories have been documented in police records and history books, and some can be quite alarming! You'll learn about the stories, then about how the "spirits" are letting people know that they are still very present! Do you have goosebumps yet? View St. Louis Cathedral, the famous landmark and oldest continuously active cathedral in the U.S. Are you a fan of American Horror Story? If so, you will absolutely see the infamous LaLaurie Murder Mansion, and discover how the true story told on TV is both similar and different from what actually happened inside this house of horrors.

Traveler Reviews

We didn’t get to complete our tour due to the heat. I was called about an hour before booking saying that they are canceling their 7:30 p.m. and if we were willing to go on the 9 p.m.. we agreed and they told us they would let us know around 7 if they will do the 9 p.m. which did not happen. I feel at this point you should know if you are able to complete these trips at least a day or so in advance due to weather reports. If heat is a concern then cancel the bookings for the days that are to hot for the trip.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about New Orleans and the French Quarter. Our mule Lou was very cute and had a very pleasant temperament. This tour is highly recommended.

We were not able to take the tour because the tour provider cancelled the tour due to too hot for the horses. I am waiting for a refund since THEY cancelled 2 1/2 hours ahead of departure

Lou the mule was so cute, the ride was informative but more history based which I thoroughly enjoyed and the difference in rides was explained at the beginning. The story of where the legend of the vampires came from was really fascinating and the ghost stories were very interesting, especially why a table is set every night in one of the restaurants. Would highly recommend.

I’m actually pretty torn about this trip. We had Jonathan and Coca-Cola and they were both amazing. Jonathan was very knowledgeable and friendly and professional. But $140 Was asking way too much for a tour that only went around a couple blocks, and stopped for lengthy amounts of time. I was in an overall good mood because of the trip itself to New Orleans and Jonathan shared information with us that I wouldn’t have otherwise known but again, The price was way too much for not so great of a ride. You think when you’re getting in a horse and carriage you’d move more but we stopped a lot for a long time. Tomorrow I’m going on another one that I already paid for and it’s three hours. I’m happy that it was a lot cheaper because if I hadn’t already paid for it, I wouldn’t have committed to it after the trip on the haunted tour. Also since the people paying the money are clearly choosing the tour because it’s haunted it doesn’t help when the driver debunks the things that they’re sharing with you and being a skeptic. I would not take this tour again, Unless they lowered their prices by a lot. Unless they lowered their prices by a lot. For $50 two people can get in a pedicab and drive around and see the sites.

Shannon was funny, knowledgeable and made learning about the history enjoyable. O’Reilly the mule was sweet and full of personality! Relaxing and fun, a must do!

They keep canceling and rescheduling a maybe time causing us to not be able to do what we want and this is our honeymoon. Worse yet told no automatic refund and can’t get ahold of company. Do not use haven’t done tour. Spent all day night with hours chanting to a maybe.

We loved our spooky ghost carriage tour. Benson, the mule who led our carriage ride, was so sweet. Our guide was so friendly and super knowledgeable. We learned about the alleged vampire Jacques Saint Germain and his house on Royal Street, a story that I had heard details about but not the whole story. Our 12 and 14-year-old daughters had a blast and loved getting to know Benson. I highly recommend the History and Haunts tour. It is so interesting and fun to see the Quarter after dark.

A very unique and interesting tour and one of our most favorite things we did while in New Orleans. It felt as if we were transported back 200 years ago, being drawn by horse and carriage through the cobblestone streets of one of the oldest cities in the country. Our guide was great and they take very good care of their horses. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed seeing and learning about some of the haunted places via horse and carriage. Especially after a long day of walking in the heat of the summer.

Things To Do in New Orleans

I f you’re planning your next trip to or around America, don’t miss out on New Orleans. The city is rich with culture and history, and there’s much more to see than just the tourist spots.

The Louisiana leisure and hospitality industry is the fourth-highest employer in the state , so you might think it’s hard to find something that isn’t crawling with tourists.

Everyone has heard about their jazz parties, festivals, and the famous Bourbon Street, but there is much more to see around this area, and many people describe it as magical.

1. Explore The Mystical Side of New Orleans

Orleans is also famous for its magical traditions and unique mystical side. Let’s explore some of these options:

Learn about history in the French Quarter

Yes, the French Quarter is pretty well known among tourists and people from New Orleans , but there’s a point to this: it’s the most historical part of the city. The first colonialists arrived there in the early seventeen hundreds, and they had a strong influence on both culture and architecture.

Evidently, walking through this territory is a must. Here are some spots you can’t miss:

Jackson Square : it’s near the river and is one of the oldest in New Orleans. St. Louis Cathedral is located at one of the ends and it’s the oldest active Roman Catholic Cathedral in the U.S. It was originally built in 1724. If you want to buy some incredible artwork and nice souvenirs, that’s the place to go. You can even take a carriage tour of the city.

1850 House : If you go to the opposite side of Jackson Square, you’ll see the 1850 House. This is a multi-storied, decorated with furniture from the period and artwork, to depict the family life of middle-class people in New Orleans’s golden years.

The Cabildo : This place is located near St. Louis Cathedral, and it’s one of the most important historical buildings in the city. It was the city’s seat of government in the past, and it’s also where the Louisiana Purchase was signed in 1803. It functions as a museum today, with different historical exhibits that you can admire.

Historic French Market : The French Market is another spot worth visiting, and it’s around 6 blocks in the quarter. You can find cheap, delicious food and great shopping places in this area.

Hidden voodoo and spiritual sites

The magical side of New Orleans isn’t complete without exploring some of the most famous voodoo and mystical places. These are some of the most iconic spots to visit:

The voodoo spiritual temple: you can get a more authentic experience here since it’s not as touristy as other spots.

St. Roch Chapel and cemetery: this chapel is known for its unusual relics and healing properties, this site is creepy and fascinating.

2. Dive Into Local Art and Culture

New Orleans has a wonderful art culture, and here are some places you can’t miss:

Off-the-Radar museums

The major museums of New Orleans are good, of course, but New Orleans has a lot more niche museums to visit, and those aren’t as crowded, such as:

Backstreet Cultural Museum : it’s located in the Tremé neighborhood, and it showcases the history-rich traditions of Mardi Gras and jazz funerals.

Southern Food and Beverage Museum : this unconventional museum is dedicated to Southern cuisine, and you can participate in tastings and demos.

Street art and murals

The art scene in New Orleans isn’t just about galleries. There’s very original street art in neighborhoods like Bywater and Marigny. This is where you can go:

StudioBE : it used to be a warehouse, but nowadays you can find murals by local artists, like Brandan “Bmike” Odums.

Frenchmen Art Market : this open-air market offers everything, from unique local artworks to original crafts.

3. Unique Experiences to Try

New Orleans is already a pretty unique place to be, so it’s no surprise that if you’re looking for a more original experience, this is the city to visit. These are some of the choices below.

Cemetery and ghost tours

A lot of people think of ghosts, ghouls, and spirits when they think of New Orleans. In fact, 63% of people in New Orleans believe in the supernatural. The entire city is famous for its haunted spots, and there’s more to see than just the typical ghost tours. Try these:

French Quarter Phantoms Tour : the guides on this tour are very knowledgeable, and they tell engaging stories. You can deep dive into the French Quarter’s ghostly history.

Save Our Cemeteries Tours : if you’re interested in cemeteries, you can get exclusive access to some of the city's oldest and most mysterious cemeteries with this company.

Swamp tours and excursions to nature

Just like there are tours for ghosts, cuisine, and culture, you can discover the natural beauty of Louisiana’s wetlands through excursions. Here’s where to go:

Cajun Encounters : visit the bayou with a few others and satisfy your curiosity with their guides and experts in the wildlife and ecosystems surrounding New Orleans.

Honey Island Swamp Tour : with this tour, you can spot alligators, wild boars, and bird species, without missing beautiful landscapes.

Of course, while you’re trying to determine where to go in New Orleans, and even if you’re already there and relying on Wi-Fi to navigate the area, don’t forget about online safety. With a VPN like Surfshark , you can avoid cyber criminals getting their hands on your sensitive information.

New Orleans is a delightful, whimsical city to visit. There’s something for everyone there, and as a solo traveller, you’ll be able to freely enjoy these “secret” experiences at your own pace. From enchanting gardens to unique museums and food tastings, enjoying New Orleans has never been easier.

If you’re planning your next trip to or around America, don’t miss out on New Orleans. The city is rich with culture and history, and there’s much more to see than just the tourist spots.  The Louisiana leisure and hospitality industry is the fourth-highest employer in the state, so you might think it’s hard to find something that isn’t crawling with tourists.  Everyone has heard about their jazz parties, festivals, and the famous Bourbon Street, but there is much more to see around this area, and many people describe it as magical.  1.
