noc certificate for tourist visa

How to draft a NOC for your tourist visa application- Basics with a sample format.

Have you got a NOC?

Have you got stuck with this question whenever you wanted to apply for a tourist visa?

Well, let me help you through this. This article will let you know why you need a NOC and how you can get your NOC from your employer. So that's 1 less thing to worry about.

When starting your application, you get a checklist of documents you need to acquire from your copy of residence permit, your travel insurance, bank documents and whatnot. NOC or No objection certificate is mandatory for most tourist visa, including Schengen, U.S, U.K, especially if you’re a residing in a GCC country.

What is NOC?

This document verifies your employment in the organization, including your pay scale and confirms that you will be covering all your travel expenses and resuming your job after your travel.

Why you need a NOC for a tourist visa application?

“No intention to overstay in the country or strong ties to your country” This is one of the eligibility criteria for a tourist visa you must meet.

It is the prime responsibility of the embassy to make sure that the applicant would overstay their trip or stay illegally. Apart from your travel documents or bank statements, they would require an assurance from an authorized body that you have no intention to overstay and you have responsibilities back in your residing country and will return after your trip.

NOC is the official authorization letter that proves this which you have to get from your employer.

What all information should be included in a NOC?

When preparing your NOC, make sure to be specific. Now you don’t need to include the whole itinerary. The letter should be on company letterhead with the subject given as No objection letter for “your name”.

The content should convey that you’re an employee of that company with your designation, joining date and your passport number. Make sure to include your travel dates both departure and arrival, and the date of resuming at the office.

What is a No Objection Certificate?

Getting a visa entails a lot of paperwork. From booking your tickets to having the right travel insurance, there’s a lot to think about when preparing for your trip to Europe. One document you may need for your Schengen Visa Application is called a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

But what is a No objection certificate and how do you get one? Here’s everything you need to know about NOCs.

What is a No Objection Certificate

A No Objection Certificate is a document that’s required by some embassies as part of the Schengen Visa application process. The certificate is issued by your employer and states that they have no objections to you traveling to the Schengen Area country in question for business or pleasure.

The document is issued by an employer to confirm that the employee is allowed to take time off from work for a specified period, that he is in good standing with the company, and that his job will be waiting for him when he returns.

Who needs a No Objection Certificate?

Individuals who are traveling for business or personal reasons may need to obtain a No Objection Certificate. The document is not required for every country or visa type , but having one may show that the traveler is serious about their trip and have all the proper documentation.

Check with the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting to see if a NOC is required for your visa application.

Significance of a No Objection Certificate

By having a No Objection Certificate, the individual applying for a visa is able to show that they have ties and obligations waiting for them back home, making it less likely that they will overstay their welcome in the country they are visiting.

What Should A No Objection Certificate Include?

A certificate of no objection for visa purposes should include several important details, such as:

  • The name and contact information of the employer
  • The name of the employee
  • The dates of travel
  • The purpose of travel
  • A statement from the employer that says they allow the employee to take time off work and that the employee will have a job to return to after their trip
  • A statement confirming that the employee will comply with the country’s visa requirements
  • The employer’s signature

Some countries may require additional information to be included on the No Objection Certificate. It is important to check with the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting to find out if there are any specific requirements.

How To Get A No Objection Certificate?

The best way to get a No Objection Certificate is to ask your employer for one. Many employers will have a template or standard letter that they can provide to employees. If your employer does not have a template, you can use the following as a guide:

  • Request a meeting with your employer to discuss your upcoming travel plans.
  • Explain that you will need a No Objection Certificate in order to apply for a visa .
  • Provide your employer with the dates of your travel and the purpose of your trip.
  • Ask your employer to sign the No Objection Certificate and include all of the required information.
  • Be sure to thank your employer for their time and assistance.

It is important to remember that a No Objection Certificate is not a guarantee of visa approval. The decision to issue a visa is up to the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting. However, having a NOC will certainly help your case and increase your chances of being granted a visa.

Types of NOCs

Depending on whether you are an employee or a student, you may need to get a different type of NOC.

  • NOC for Employees : This is a  letter from your employer confirming that they have no objection to you taking time off from work for travel and that you can afford to take the trip without any financial assistance from the company.
  • NOC for Students : This is a letter from your school or university confirming that you are in good academic standing and that they have no objection to you taking time off from your studies for travel.

Universities and employers would usually require a formal application for the NOC, so it is important to give them enough time to process your request.

Sample NOC letter for employees

Most employers should have a template or standard letter that they can provide to employees. If your employer does not have a template, you can use the following as a guide:

Obtaining a Schengen Visa can be a long and complicated process with many different requirements. However, by having all of the necessary documentation, including a No Objection Certificate, you can increase your chances of being granted a visa by showing that you have done your research and that you are serious about your travel plans.

Getting a No Objection Certificate is usually a simple process, as long as you remember to ask your employer or school well in advance of your planned travel date. As long as you have all of the required information, there is no reason why you should not be able to obtain a NOC and successfully apply for a visa.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is noc required for a schengen visa.

Some Schengen embassies may require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer or school as part of the visa application process. Some, like Germany, have made it an optional document.  It is always best to check with the embassy of the country you are visiting to find out if they require a NOC.

Can I go abroad without NOC?

For countries that require them, you most likely will not be able to get a visa without a NOC. Even if it is not required, it is always best to have one as it can only help your application.

Is NOC and leave letter the same thing?

No. Although they are both letters from your employer, a No Objection Certificate is specifically for travel purposes and states that the company does not object to you taking time off for travel. A leave letter is simply a request for time off from work and does not need to mention travel.

How long is a No Objection Certificate valid?

The validity of a NOC for a visa usually depends on the entity that issues it. For example, a NOC from your employer is usually only valid for one year, while a NOC from your school may be valid for multiple years. It is always best to check with the issuer of the NOC to find out how long it is valid.

Do I need a No Objection Certificate for a tourist Schengen visa?

More often than not, you will need a No Objection Certificate for a tourist visa. However, there are some countries or instances that may not require it, so it is always best to check with the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting. They will be able to give you the most up-to-date information on the requirements for a tourist visa.

A No Objection Letter (NOC) is often a vital document for visa applications, indicating that an employer or educational institution has granted permission to the visa applicant to travel while affirming their obligations to return. This letter can immensely smooth the visa application process . Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to craft a clear and concise NOC for a visa application.

Understand the Purpose of the NOC

Before you start writing, understand why the NOC is required. It acts as a formal assent from an employer or university that they have no reservations about their employee or student traveling abroad and that they have committed to return. This facilitates the visa officer’s decision-making process by ensuring the applicant has ties to their home country.

  • From the Organization :
  • Official name and address
  • The contact information of the person writing the letter
  • From the Visa Applicant :
  • Full name and job/student identification number
  • Position or course and department

3. Consulate Address : Target the letter to the specific embassy or consulate where the visa application will be submitted.

4. Subject Line : Clearly mention “No Objection Letter” or “No Objection Certificate” in the subject line to ensure immediate recognition of the letter’s purpose.

5. Opening Salutation : Use a formal salutation, such as “Dear Sir/Madam,” or directly address the consular officer if you know their name.

6. Body of the Letter :

  • Introduction : Briefly introduce yourself and your authority in the organization to issue such letters.
  • Applicant’s Details : Mention the applicant’s name, position or course, and other relevant details.
  • Purpose of Travel : Clearly specify the purpose of travel, particularly if it’s for official business or education-related.
  • Leave Approval : Confirm that leave has been granted for the applicant’s travel duration, ensuring that their absence is officially sanctioned.
  • Assertion of Return : Emphasize that the applicant will return to resume duties or studies, underscoring their ties to the home country.

7. Closing : End with a formal closure like “Sincerely” or “Respectfully,” followed by your name, position, and signature (and stamp if applicable).

8. Contact Information : Reiterate your contact details, including phone number and email, in case the embassy needs to reach you for further clarification.

Writing Style

  • Clarity and Conciseness : Use clear, straightforward language. The consulate staff reviews many applications; a succinct and precise letter is greatly appreciated.
  • Formality : Maintain a formal tone throughout the letter. Avoid colloquial language and keep the content professional.
  • Accuracy : Double-check for any errors in names, dates, and other factual information to avoid unnecessary confusion or misinterpretation.

Final Checks

Before submitting the NOC with the visa application, proofread it for any typos or grammatical errors. Ensure all the information aligns with other documents in the visa application package.

Unlock your schengen visa with a no objection certificate letter: essential guide and tips.

The Schengen visa “No Objection Certificate” is issued by an employer or authorized representative, confirming the company’s approval for your specified leave to travel to the Schengen Area. A Schengen Visa No Objection Certificate Letter from an employer serves to confirm your company’s approval for the specified leave requested in your Schengen Visa application, ensuring you have permission to travel abroad.

For some Embassies, this document is mandatory but others consider it optional. Embassies without a mandatory requirement for a No Objection Certificate may not automatically reject visa applications lacking this document.

Reasons Why You Need a NOC Letter

  • The NOC Letter from your employer increases your chance of approval.
  • The NOC Letter speed ups and streamline your Schengen Visa application process .

Your company, through the NOC letter, confirms your approved leave, affirms your ability to cover travel expenses, and assures your job upon your return. An appropriate company representative, such as your manager, supervisor, president, or vice president, should write the No Objection Certificate. Alternatively, you can request the NOC Letter from the HR department personnel. You should submit the NOC Letter whether you are planning to travel for tourism, business or to visit family members.

Always note  there is a slight difference between a NOC letter and a leave approval , meaning that you must first have the permission from the company to take a certain period off (Leave Approval) before requesting the No Objection Certificate Letter from your company.

In other words, you have to submit a leave request to your company. Their response would determine if you would receive a NOC letter or not. If your employer has approved your leave request, you can request a NOC Letter.

While the NOC Letter significantly contributes to your Schengen visa application, it’s crucial to note that it isn’t the sole document validating your employment status.

Submitting your employment contract is a mandatory requirement, and it is recommended to submit a Certificate of Employment, though it is not mandatory for all embassies.

The ultimate goal of the NOC Letter is to prove that your employer allows you to travel abroad and the company is vouching for you and your credibility to the Embassy.

The Importance Of The No Objection Certificate (NOC) For Your Schengen Visa Application

While not obligatory for all Embassies during Schengen Visa applications, a NOC Letter from your employer is crucial for the following reasons:

  • The consular officer reviewing your application will have more evidence of your intentions to return to your home country/country of residence where you have contractual obligations).
  • It is a piece of validation that you are who you say you are, therefore, the No Objection Letter provides evidence that you are an employee who has received leave approval to travel to the Schengen Region for a purpose.
  • A trustworthy company that allows you to get a Visa and travel abroad provides additional proof that you are an honest person with a clean background and that you won’t break the laws of the country where you will be traveling.
  • It confirms that you have enough funds to support you during your journey because the Visa officer must ensure that you won’t be a burden to the country you are going to travel to.

How To Get A No Objection Letter (NOC) From An Employer

Once the company formally approves your leave and confirms your ability to travel on specific dates, request a No Objection Letter from the Human Resources Department representatives or directly from your manager or supervisor, depending on your company’s structure.

You can request a No Objection Letter for employees by sending an email to those responsible for issuing it in which you mention the reasons why you need the certificate.

Important Things To Note In Your Email Request

  • Use the name of the person you are addressing the letter to. If you work for a large organization and do not know the person’s name, you can begin the letter with “To Whom It May Concern” or “Dear Sir/Madam.”
  • Introduce yourself and mention the position you occupy within the company.
  • Explain why you require a No Objection Letter (for obtaining a Schengen Visa) and remind the recipient that they have already approved your leave of absence for the specified period of travel abroad.
  • If you cover all of the travel and living expenses yourself, ask the recipient to mention this in the letter.

Here’s a sample for a No Objection Certificate request letter (NOC)

Dear  [Name of Recipient] /Dear Human Resources Department/, Dear Sir/Madam, To Whom It May Concern,

I, [Your Full Name], request permission to visit [Name of the Schengen Country] from [Beginning Date of your Trip] until [End Date of Your Trip], as my leave for this period has already been approved.

I would appreciate it if you could write a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) addressed to  [Name of the Embassy]  located at  [Address of the Embassy] , in order for me to use it for my Schengen Visa Application.”

Please state in the letter that I will personally cover all expenses for my trip.

Please feel free to contact me for further inquiries.

[Your Full Name] .

Important Mistakes To Avoid When Writing A Schengen Visa NOC Letter

Before submitting to the Embassy, carefully review the information provided by the company representative to ensure you haven’t overlooked crucial details in your documents. Ensure your Schengen Visa No Objection Certificate letter contains accurate details about yourself, your trip, and your employer. Here’s a list of mistakes to avoid before submitting your NOC letter.

  • Not using a letter headed paper that includes the company’s logo.
  • Your flight bookings or day-to-day travel itinerary should align with the leave dates specified in the No Objection Certificate. While you have flexibility to depart a day or two before and return a day or two after, avoid significant differences between your leave dates and flight arrangements.
  • The letter lacks a signature and contact information (email, phone) at the bottom. These details are mandatory as the Visa officers might want to contact your company’s representatives for further inquiries.
  • The Visa applicant fails to highlight that they will cover the necessary travel and living expenses during the trip. Specify self-funding for expenses if you lack a sponsoring entity for your trip.
  • Not mentioning in the letter the salary you get (per month or per year).
  • Your passport details mentioned in the No Objection Letter does not match the ones on your passport.
  • Ensure consistency in your name across the No Objection Letter, passport, hotel bookings, reservations, and leave approval to avoid discrepancies.

What is No Objection Letter and How to Get One?

What is No Objection Letter and How to Get One?

Nothing compares to the excitement of preparing for an overseas vacation, whether to Schengen countries or other international destinations. Everything else takes a backseat as we get busy planning shopping agendas, tourist places to visit, exotic meals to indulge in, and markets to explore.

That is why, it is important for your travel documentation to be just as impeccable as your in-trip plans. While visa applications, insurance, as well as airline and hotel reservation itineraries must be as per global requirements, let’s not forget the No Objection Certificate or NOC Letter!

What is an NOC Letter?

An NOC Letter is an official document, one page long, authorizing you to take leave from work or studies in order to spend time away from your home country. It tells Visa Officials that your visit is temporary and that you will return at the end of your stipulated stay.

While an NOC is mandatory only for a few Schengen countries, it is still advisable to get one arranged even if your particular destination does not ask for it. Doing so will improve your chances of getting the Schengen Visa, and also speed up the overall Visa Application Process.

Types of NOC Letters and How to Obtain Them

The type of NOC letter applicable to you depends upon whether you are an employee or a student. The content of the letter also differs accordingly.

NOC Letter for Employees

If you are an employee, you must request your Primary Employer or Senior Manager for the NOC Letter. Multinational corporations usually have an online process for managing NOC applications. In this case, a digitally stamped / signed NOC is delivered to you right into your inbox, which you can then print out. For smaller companies, you will have to meet your employer personally and get the NOC application process initiated. Here, the letters are usually hand-written.

NOC Letter for Students

If you are a student, you can approach your School Principal, Head of Department, or College / University Dean to obtain the NOC. If the trip is planned during academic workdays, then provide adequate assurance that you will cover missed classes and get up-to-date on your assignments within the given timelines.

Salient Features of an NOC Letter

The format of an NOC Letter is like a formal letter. It contains the: (1) date on which the letter is written, (2) address of the Visa Application Centre, (3) salutation and subject line, (4) body, (5) signature of the superior, (6) name, designation, and phone number of the superior along with company address.

No Objection Letter for Employees

The body of the letter should not be lengthy or complicated. It should only contain the superior’s affirmation that he/she does not have any objection towards you obtaining a Schengen Visa and that they trust your return to fulfill your obligations.

Also, since an NOC needs to address your travel dates, it is advisable that you have a flight itinerary and hotel reservation to prove your travel timelines. This will make your superior more acceptable to issuing the NOC.

Sample Letter of No Objection for Visa

Letter of no objection.

Usually, a dreaded stage for most people in the process of applying for a visa is the point where they are required to submit specific documents to support their application. It is normal to worry about these things and it is largely beneficial if applicants know what is required and not have to go back and forth for being unable to provide the needed documents in the proper format when required. A letter of No Objection, also referred to as No Objection Certificate or NOC for short, is one of the many documents that may be required for a visa. Throughout the period in which the letter will be valid, the bearer will not face any form of objection.

What is a No Objection Certificate?

A no objection certificate is a letter written by an employer or a school on behalf of an employee or a student planning to obtain a visa to travel to another country. The letter will state that the employee or student has obligations in their country to fulfill after the trip, thus, such a person will be returning as soon as the purpose of the visit has been accomplished.

Following this definition above,  there are two types of no objection letters. There are those given by an employer to an employee, and those given to a student by an institution.

NOC for Students

The letter of no objection for a student has to be issued by a qualified person at the institution. Such a person may be a recognized member of either the academic or administrative staff. This means it can be issued by an advisor, a head of department or the dean at a university.

NOC from Employer

In this case the no objection letter can be issued for two different purposes of visit; business or tourism. A person who intends to visit tourist attractions or family and friends will have to specify this purpose, so that the content will be different from the letter issued to a person who is traveling mainly for business.

Depending on the type and size of an organization, an employee can obtain this letter from various members of the organization. A person working in an organization may simply meet the boss to draft such a letter. For those working in large organizations, where access to top members of staff may not be practical, the Human Resources department will be the best option.

Why are Letters of No Objection required?

One may wonder why countries require these letters after already requesting many other documents. However, precedents set by former travelers to these countries is the reason these countries always want to establish that anyone traveling to their country has reasons to leave as soon as the stated purpose is accomplished.

There have been many cases of those who were granted visas to travel to foreign countries for a particular reason like education, business or tourism, who refused to leave these countries after the tenure of their stay elapses.

For this reason, many countries are wary of giving a visa to a person who might refuse to leave the country after the approved time, thereby causing problems for immigration officials in the country. People are usually more likely to stay in a foreign if they have nothing of note to return to in their own country. Thus, the need for the foreign country to see a letter from a reliable source confirming that the individual is obligated to return to their own country as soon as they have accomplished their purpose for traveling.

What information should be included in a Letter ?

The letter should contain information about the institution or organization issuing the letter to a student or an employee. The name of the individual representing the institution or the organization must be included, along with such person’s position at the institution or organization. Contact information such as email address and phone number(s) of the person issuing such letter should be included in the letter. The letter should also carry the address of the institution or organization, and it has to be signed by the issuer.

Also, information about the employee or student requesting such a letter must be included. For an employee, the name of the employee, the position of the employee at the organization, the identification card number of the employee on the identification card issued by the organization, how long the employee has worked for the organization, time span of the leave approved for the employee and the employee’s annual salary are all to be provided in the letter.

For a student, the name of the student, the student’s field of study, the student’s department, the date the student was admitted to the institution, the identification card number on the identity card issued by the institution and the dates the institution has approved as leave dates for the student are required to be included in the letter.

NOC for Students: The NOC for students is written by a responsible figure at the university attended by the student, such as the Dean, Registrar, or Head of the Department. The letter states that the student applying for the Schengen Visa is currently studying at the university and is committed to returning to their home country to complete their studies. If a scholarship sponsors the student, the NOC may also mention the financial stability supported by the scholarship.

How to Obtain an NOC Letter from Your Employer or Educational Institution?

Obtaining an NOC letter for a Schengen visa from your employer or educational institution typically involves following a formal process. Here is a general guide on how to obtain an NOC:

For Employees:

Request in Writing or request a meeting: Write a formal letter to your employer requesting the NOC, or you can request a meeting with your employer. Clearly state the purpose for which you need the NOC.

Provide Details: Include your name, employee ID, department, and why you seek the NOC. Also, provide your employer with your travel dates and the purpose of your trip.

Justify Your Request: Explain why you need the NOC and how it will not interfere with your job responsibilities.

Attach Supporting Documents: Attach any documents or letters from the organisation or institution requesting the NOC if required.

Submit to HR or Relevant Department: Submit your letter to the HR department or the relevant department per your organisation's protocol.

Follow Up: Follow up with the concerned department to ensure your request is being processed.

Tip: Obtain a leave approval letter before requesting the No Objection Certificate for a streamlined process.

For Students:

For students, it's important to ask for permission from your professors or adviser to be excused from classes during your travel. Another easy option is planning your trip during university breaks and informing the necessary people about your plans. When you let your adviser know about your travel during a break, getting an NOC from them should be straightforward.

Write a Formal Letter: Draft a formal letter to the head of your educational institution requesting the NOC. If you are pressed for time, try to make an appointment instead.

Include Relevant Details: Provide details such as your name, student ID, course, and the purpose for which you need the NOC.

Mention Duration: If applicable, mention the duration for which you need the NOC.

Attach Supporting Documents: Attach any necessary documents, such as admission letters or job offers.

Submit: Submit the letter to the appropriate authority in your educational institution, such as the registrar or head of your department.

Follow-up: To ensure that your request is being processed and to obtain the NOC in a timely manner.

Tip: Schedule travel during university breaks, if possible, for easier No Objection Certificate approval.

Essential Details in an NOC Letter:

Regardless of whether the NOC letter is from an employer or educational institution, it should contain the following key details:

Date of Issue: The date on which the NOC is issued or written.

Personal Information: Full name, passport details, and other relevant personal information of the applicant.

Travel Details: Purpose of travel, destination within the Schengen zone, and the intended duration of the stay.

Employment/Educational Details : For employees, information about the current position, job responsibilities, and confirmation of continued employment upon return. For students, details of enrollment, course of study, and approval for the absence.

Declaration of No Objection: A clear statement from the employer or educational institution stating that they have no objections to the applicant's travel plans.

Contact Information: Contact details of the person issuing the NOC, including their name, designation, and contact number.

Organisation's Details: Name and address of the employer or educational institution.

Signature and Stamp: The official signature and stamp of the issuing authority for authenticity.

Letterhead: The letter should be on the official letterhead of the organisation.

Noc for Schengen Visa

Noc for Schengen Visa

If you are applying or are considering applying for a Schengen visa, you have likely seen a list of the basic and supplemental documents you must submit as part of your visa requirements. While the Noc for Schengen visa applicants (also called a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is not officially on this list, including it on your application can significantly improve your chances of being approved for a visa. But what is a No Objection Letter, and Is the NOC compulsory for visa applicants to the Schengen area? Today’s blog will provide an overview of this often omitted yet helpful document. In addition to learning about the different types of No Objection Letters and the format of a No Objection Letter, you will also find the answers to critical questions including, “Why do we need a No Objection Certificate?” And, “How do you write a NOC no objection certificate?” And finally, “How to Obtain a Free No Objection Letter?” The answers to these and more questions are available below.

Overview of Schengen visa requirements

  • Passport
  • Two passport photos
  • Schengen visa fee
  • Schengen visa application form
  • Proof of having obtained travel medical insurance
  • Proof of accommodation (proof that you have a place to stay in the Schengen area)
  • Proof of financial subsidence (proof that you can financially afford your trip)
  • Proof of return (proof that you will ultimately leave the Schengen area)
  • Please note that the above list is not inclusive of supplemental documents, which are mandatory depending on what type of visa you will submit. For example, if you are applying for the “Visiting Family and Friends” type of Schengen visa, you will have to submit a letter from the family member or friend you are intending to visit in the zone. For a complete list of Schengen visa requirements, including in-person components such as biometric information submission and the interview—click here .

What is a No Objection Letter?

  • In brief, a “No Objection” is solicited by the applicant from his or her superior—such as a boss (if you work) or an educational facility (if you are a student) in your country of residence, which testifies that you will return there in order to fulfill whatever professional/educational responsibilities are outlined in the letter. Essentially, your superiors are saying that they have no objection to your trip to the Schengen area on the basis of their complete confidence that you will return to fulfill your obligations.
  • Is the NOC compulsory for a visa? No. As you can see from a quick glance, the No Objection Certificate (NOC) is not included on the above list of Schengen visa documents, which are mandatory for all applicants, regardless of the type of visa they are applying for.
  • At this point you may be asking yourself the following question: if the Noc for Schengen visa is not required, why do we need the No Objection Certificate? Ultimately, the “No Objection” letter falls on the list of non-mandatory, optional documents whose submission—while not required—increases your strength as a Schengen visa candidate.
  • The best Schengen visa candidates are those who are able to demonstrate the following: 1) That they do not present a security/criminal risk to the Schengen area and 2) That they will not overstay their visa. A “No Objection” letter acts as a guarantee of the former.
  • Unemployed non-students
  • Unmarried
  • Childless
  • Without significant social obligations
  • Applicants who live alone (i.e. not with a parent, partner, or wife)
  • Applicants who do not own their own home
  • If you fall into one of the categories on the above list, don’t be alarmed! Being unemployed or unmarried, for example, does not mean that you will be rejected for a Schengen visa. However, the fewer social and professional ties you have to your home country, the more likely you will be to overstay your visa (at least, according to the logic of the official who is reviewing your application).
  • Applicants who live with their parents or who are married with children are considered to have significant, deep-rooted ties to their home country, which they are judged to be less likely to abandon. Similarly, applicants who have steady, well-paying jobs and/or those who are enrolled in school are therefore considered less likely to want to abandon those professional responsibilities for an uncertain future as an illegal resident of the Schengen area.
  • As an applicant, many of your required and supplemental documents will reflect these social and professional ties. If you are employed, the financial documents that you submit toward demonstrating “proof of subsistence” will include evidence of the strength of your professional ties (for example, your submission of bank statements and pay stubs will help you prove that your job represents a significant source of income).
  • Requesting a “No Objection” letter from either your school or your workplace is therefore yet another way for you to emphasize your professional/educational roots in your home country.

Who writes the “No Objection” letter?

  • The “No Objection” letter is not written by you (the applicant), but by the person you designate to write it (a superior).
  • If you are a student, your advisor/professor will write it; if you are employed, your employer will write it.

How do you write a NOC no objection certificate?

  • Keep in mind that there are essentially two different types of No Objection Letters: “employed” and “student;” the one that you submit will depend on whether you are a student (and therefore unemployed) or an employed worker. The contents of the letter will depend on what type of NOC certificate you need.
  • Letter writer’s full name
  • Letter writer’s position at the company/business
  • Letter writer’s contact info (email/cellphone)
  • Company’s address
  • Applicant’s full name
  • Applicant’s position/role at the company/business
  • Salary of the applicant
  • How long the applicant has worked at the company in his/her current position
  • Statement of the applicant’s travel dates
  • Statement of the applicant’s purpose for travel
  • Letter writer’s full name
  • Letter writer’s position at the school
  • Letter writer’s relationship to the student
  • Year/semester the student is in
  • How long the student has been enrolled at the school
  • Student’s coursework/area of study
  • School vacation dates (if they correspond to the applicant’s travel dates)
  • School address

Format of a No Objection Letter

  • Letter should be typed, on official company/university letterhead if possible.
  • Contents of letter should be concise; avoid adding unnecessary information and stick to the facts.
  • The tone of your letter should be formal; address letter either “To Whom It May Concern” etc.
  • Letter should be manually signed by its author.

How to submit your “No Objection letter

  • Submit your “No Objection” letter along with the rest of your basic and supplemental documents as part of your complete Schengen visa application.

Please note that your submission of a “No Objection” letter is no guarantee that you will be approved for a Schengen visa. For more information about how to obtain a free No Objection Letter and for help assembling a winning Schengen visa application, contact us here .

Guide – Schengen Visa No Objection Letter (NOC) For Students

What is a schengen visa no objection letter (noc) for students.

A Schengen Visa “No Objection Certificate (NOC)” (or Letter) for students is an official document written by a representative of the school/university that you are studying at, where it states that your school/university has no objection towards you travelling to Europe.

You must submit your No Objection Letter to the Embassy/Consulate whether or not you will be travelling during university breaks.

Some Embassies/Consulates deem this document as mandatory but others consider it optional.

Even for those Embassies/Consulates that do not find it mandatory, they still recommend you submit it, as it can help them process your visa faster and might give you a higher chance of visa approval (as it ensures that you do not have any intentions of overstaying your visa or remaining in the European Union or Schengen Area).

The person who writes your Student No Objection Letter can either be an adviser from your university, the head of the department, the dean, your main teacher, etc. The certificate has to mention that you are enrolled in university and you will return to your home country  in order to finish your studies.

In the situation where you have been granted a scholarship, your NOC certificate should state that you are a Visa applicant funded by a scholarship.

Please note that a No Objection Letter for students is different from a Certificate of Enrolment .

A Certificate of Enrolment is a certificate issued by a school, university, or another educational institution where it states that you are enrolled in a course of study for a specific academic year. Where a No Objection Letter for students is a document which states that a representative of your university has no objection towards you getting a Schengen Visa and travelling to Europe.

Important – Employed travellers must attach to their Visa applications a No Objection Certificate (NOC) Letter from their employer.

If you are employed, please check our Guide – No Objection Letter for Employees for Schengen Visa purposes . Our guide will provide you with complete information on how to request a NOC Certificate from the human resource department of your company, the information that it must contain, and fillable templates made specifically for Schengen Visa applications.

We  also recommend you check our article – Leave Approval Letter from Employer , as you must get an employee leave approval first (and then you should request a No Objection certificate for Visa purposes).

The Importance Of The Student No Objection Letter For Your Schengen Visa Application

You may ask yourself why it is so important to submit a No Objection Letter for students. Below you will find the answers:

  • Your No Objection Letter provides strong evidence of your intentions to return home from the Schengen Region because it shows that you have student commitments and obligations in your home country and a representative from your university has reviewed your travel plans and supported your claims of returning.
  • The consular officer who is reviewing your application will treat the certificate as another piece of validation that you are who you say you are, as there are situations where proof of education has been fraudulent. This way, you bring additional proof of identity.
  • A reputable representative of your university who allows you to travel abroad provides additional proof that you are an honest person with a clean background (and that you won’t break the laws of the country where you are going to travel).

How To Get A Student No Objection Letter (NOC) For Your Schengen Visa Application

Once you’ve decided on the time frame of your trip, you have to go to the university you are enrolled in and ask what their procedure is for releasing a No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa.

They may ask you to send an email to your teacher or department head or just book an appointment with the person in charge of writing these documents on behalf of the university.

You can use the template provided below to write the email to the representative responsible for issuing your No Objection Letter:

Subject line: No Objection Certificate for Visa purposes

Dear [Full Name Of The Person Responsible For Issuing Your NOC Letter] ,

I, [Your Full Name] , am enrolled as a full-time student/part-time student since [Year Of Enrolment], pursuing a [Type Of Degree] in [Field Of Study] .

I would like to visit [Name Of The Schengen Country/s] from [Beginning Date Of Your Trip] until [End Date Of Your Trip] for [Purpose Of Your Trip]. All of the expenses for my trip will be covered by [End Date Of Your Trip] .

I would highly appreciate it if you could write a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC Letter) addressed to [Embassy/Consulate/Visa Application Center Name] located at [Embassy/Consulate/Visa Application Center Address] , in order for me to use it for my Schengen Visa Application.

I would also kindly ask you to mention in the certificate my date of birth [Your Date Of Birth] , place of birth [Your Place Of Birth] , and Passport No. [Your Passport Number] .

Kind regards,

[Your Full Name]

Note – Do not add in information such as your year of enrolment, type of degree that you are pursuing, and field of study if you address the request to a teacher or someone from the university who already knows you.

The representative of your university responsible for issuing your NOC Letter may ask you to provide  supporting documents to validate that you are requesting the document for a reason (e.g. flight itinerary/ flight reservations or proof of financial means so that they can be sure that the information in the NOC  correspond to reality).

As a general rule, you should feel comfortable with showing the documents that you must submit to the Embassy/Consulate, as they will be referenced in your application.

Also, before requesting a No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa, it is a good idea to ask for permission to have a leave of absence from your university, so that you can be sure that they agree to you missing classes for a specific period of time – unless you are planning to travel during semestral break/holidays.

However, even if you plan to travel during semestral break/holidays you should still submit a No Objection Letter from your university.

Important – In cases where your university is not familiar with the No Objection Letter procedure, you can download one of our templates, as well as the sample corresponding to the template, and provide them to those responsible for them to model from, use and fill in correctly (for more information, do not hesitate to contact us ).

Common Mistakes To Avoid When Writing A Student No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa

There are some mistakes the university representatives can make while they are writing your NOC Certificate. These mistakes might not necessarily lead to the rejection of your visa but might require Visa application resubmission.

Therefore, before you submit your Visa application, it is highly recommended to double-check what they have provided, in order to be sure that you are not missing something important.

Below, you can find a list of common mistakes you must check before submitting your Student NOC Letter:

● Forgetting to date the document

Your university must issue the certificate two or three weeks before you submit your Visa application. Thus, adding the date on your certificate is highly important.

● Travel dates outlined within the NOC Letter do not match the travel dates on your other documents

All of your documents must show consistency.

The travel dates outlined within your No Objection Letter must match the travel dates on the rest of your documents (e.g., travel insurance , flight reservation, hotel bookings , etc.).

● List of countries mentioned on your NOC Letter does not match the attached travel itinerary

The representatives of your university must mention in your No Objection Letter the countries you will be visiting.

Make sure the list of countries matches your day-to-day travel itinerary .

● The details about you as a student do not match the ones on your Certificate of Enrolment

The information on your No Objection Certificate must match the information on your Certificate of Enrolment (e.g., academic achievements, the course you are attending, etc.).

● Not outlining properly your financial sources to cover your expenses while traveling in the Schengen Region

The Visa officers must ensure you have sufficient means of subsistence to cover your expenses during your trip.

The certificate from your university should clearly highlight your sources of funding (e.g., the name of your sponsor, scholarship, etc.).

● No signature or contact details at the bottom of the NOC Letter

The Visa officers can contact your university in case they need further information about you.

Your No Objection Certificate must include a signature and contact details (e.g., academic adviser address, email, and phone number).

● Your personal information on the NOC Letter do not match your submitted Passport or other documents

As we mentioned previously, your documents must show consistency.

Not only must your travel dates match on all of your documents, but also your personal information (e.g., full name, date and place of birth, etc.)

● Not using a letter headed paper that includes the university’s logo

Your No Objection Certificate is an official document that MUST include your university’s logo.

Otherwise, the Visa officers may believe that the certificate is not authentic.

This article was originally published on Ikamet.

In recent years, Turkey has rapidly evolved into a hub for digital nomads, blending its rich historical tapestry with modern infrastructural advancements. This transformation is not just about geographical allure; it’s deeply rooted in Turkey’s progressive policies that cater specifically to the global digital workforce.

Recognizing the potential to invigorate the local economy and diversify the cultural landscape, Turkey has introduced the Digital Nomad Visa, a strategic initiative aimed at attracting remote workers from across the globe.

The introduction of this visa unfolds a myriad of opportunities for digital nomads. It’s not only a permission to stay but an invitation to immerse oneself in Turkey’s vibrant culture, picturesque settings, and dynamic cities while maintaining an international career.

For those who dream of converting coffee-scented mornings in quaint cafés into productive work sessions or those who envisage ending their bustling workdays with serene sunsets on the Mediterranean shores, Turkey opens up a palette of lifestyles tailored for every taste.

As the largest online resource for expats, Ikamet provides comprehensive insights into navigating life in Turkey, from the intricacies of applying for the Digital Nomad Visa to understanding local regulations such as Yabanci Saglik Sigortasi (foreign health insurance).

Whether you’re deliberating on the historical corridors of Istanbul or the serene beaches of Antalya as your next workstation, Ikamet stands ready to guide you through every step of your journey, ensuring your adventure in Turkey is as smooth and enriching as possible.

Eligibility Criteria for Turkey’s Digital Nomad Visa

To venture into Turkey as a digital nomad, you must meet specific criteria. Every applicant must be able to demonstrate the means to support themselves financially without local employment, which typically involves providing a stable income from remote work or self-employment outside of Turkey. The ideal candidates are those who engage in professions that can be conducted digitally, such as IT professionals, writers, marketers, and business consultants, among others. Eligible applicants must be aged between 21 and 55 to be considered.

Here are the requirements for a Digital Nomad Visa:

  • A travel document/passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Türkiye
  • A Diploma or Certification of Degree document showing you are a university graduate
  • A contract, if you’re working within the company (except companies located in Türkiye)
  • The business contract between you and the company (except companies located in Türkiye) if you’re self-employed
  • A biometric photo
  • A document proving that you have a monthly income of 3,000 USD monthly or 36,000 USD annually.

Depending on the exact nature of your work and background, additional documents may be requested to establish your status as a bona fide digital nomad. This may include contracts with foreign companies, tax returns, or work portfolios. Understanding and adhering to these criteria are crucial first steps to immerse ourselves in the vibrant landscapes and rich culture offered by one of the world’s most enticing destinations for digital nomads.

The Turkey Digital Nomad Visa is also only available for select nationalities. Here’s a list of eligible countries:

Once these conditions are satisfied, you’re ready to embark on the application journey, which brings a blend of cultural richness and professional freedom right to your doorstep.
