Open Tour Paris

The Open Tour Paris gives you access to a whole network of tourist buses running different routes to link all the main Parisian tourist sites with a single ticket, unlimitedly for one or more days depending on the pass chosen. The frequency of service (every 15 minutes from April to October and every 20 minutes from November to March) ensures that you have minimal waiting time and can stop off at your own pace, without having to keep to a set schedule.

Nearly 40 stops are scattered throughout the city along 4 routes :

  • The blue line is certainly the most complete tourist circuit to admire the main Parisian monuments: Les Invalides, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, the Palais Garnier, the Luxor Obelisk, the Arc de Triomphe or the Trocadero, it is probably one of the most popular lines.
  • The green line invites you to cross the Seine to discover the left bank of Paris, from the Latin Quarter and the Jardin du Luxembourg to the Montparnasse Tower via the Invalides
  • The yellow line invites you to discover the Saint-Germain des Prés district and the Place de la Bastille
  • The red line , to the north of the city, takes you to the Opéra Garnier, the department stores, the Moulin Rouge, Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur, the Place de la République and many places of interest.

The double-decker panoramic bus or open top bus tours allow you to travel around the city in comfort while enjoying the urban panorama and an exceptional view of Paris as you travel. The Hop on Hop off concept allows you to visit Paris at your own pace and is ideal for short stays to make the most of the attractions offered by the French capital. The individual audio guides available on board in ten different languages will enable you to learn more about the monuments. Tales and Parisian legends are even available for the youngest passengers, who will discover Paris in a playful way.

With Paris City Vision, you can even book your pass for the tourist buses and the Batobus with unlimited access in one go . Some offers also allow you to combine your Open Tour Paris pass with a museum pass to access more than 60 museums and monuments in Paris. Who hasn't dreamed of visiting the Louvre Museum during a tour of the heart of Paris? Paris City Bus Tours

Paris City Bus Tours

Paris has several tour bus operators . The most renowned are OpenTour, Big Bus Paris and Foxity Sightseeing Tour. Find in-depth information about what each company offers and choose the best option.

All sightseeing buses in Paris are open-top double-deckers and include an audio guide in English .

We provide you with information on each of the different tour bus operators so you can choose which one you prefer:

Big Bus Paris

Big Bus Paris (used to be called Les Cars Rouges) is the oldest tour bus operator in Paris. These buses are red , as the name used to suggest.

Paris is extremely well-lit up at night and it's worth discovering the city after dusk. This is why the Big Bus operator includes a tour of Paris at this time of day when visitors will be able to see the main monuments illuminated.

Big Bus Paris has one line that takes a little over two hours with eleven stops . Passengers can hop off and hop on at any of the following stops:

Itinerario de Big Bus Paris

  • Eiffel Tower
  • Champs de Mars
  • Notre Dame Cathedral
  • Musée d'Orsay
  • Opéra Garnier
  • Arc de Triomphe
  • Grand Palais

Schedule & timetable

The Big Bus Paris schedule is approximately from 9:30 am to 8:15 pm . However, it depends a lot on each stop. The last bus passes by the Louvre Museum or Notre Dame at 6:25 pm. The frequency varies between 10 and 20 minutes , depending on the time of year.

For your convenience, you can purchase tickets online here .

Paris OpenTour

The OpenTour bus is yellow and blue and allows its passengers to hop off and hop on as many times as they want during the validity of their ticket.

OpenTour Paris, itinerarios

Paris OpenTour has three different routes with over 34 stops and passengers can choose any of these 3 lines and combine them without any problem.

  • Blue line : Rides past the top landmarks of Paris, like the Louvre Museum, Champs-Élysées, Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Les Invalides…
  • White line : Travels down the left bank of the River Seine. It passes by the Catacombs of Paris, Boulevard Montparnasse, St. Germain-des-Prés, and the Pont Neuf, among others.
  • Red line : This line includes the main attractions on the right side of the Seine, like the Moulin Rouge, Montmartre , and République, among others.

The routes and schedules of the OpenTour buses vary depending on the route and time of year . Between April and October, buses run from 9:30 am to 8 pm approximately and from November to March from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. The frequency also varies, ranging from 10 – 30 minutes.

Adults with a Paris Visite  travel card have a € 4 ( US$ 4.30) discount for the 1-day Open Tour and children under 4 travel for free. Those who want to combine the Batobus  with an OpenTour bus tour can purchase a special rate for a 2-day pass for both means of transport.

Foxity Sightseeing Tour

Foxity Sightseeing Tour was the last tour bus to arrive in Paris. At first, this company only included a bus tour without having the hop-on, hop-off option. However, due to pressure from tourists, it now allows its passengers to hop on and off.

Foxity also organizes night tours.

Itinerario del Foxity Sightseeing Tour

The buses leave from the Eiffel Tower and its itinerary is very similar to the Big Bus Paris one.

The timetable varies depending on the time of year. We recommend checking the times on their webpage .

The ticket price is 42 EUR for adults ( € 49 ( US$ 52.30) for 2 days) . For children between 4 and 12 ticket price, is 23 EUR ( € 28 ( US$ 29.80) for 2 days) , and children under 4 years old take the tour for free.

Which tour bus to choose?

All of the above companies offer very similar services , although we recommend Paris OpenTour , as it has more routes and more stops, and therefore offers a more complete tour.

Best Hop on Hop off Bus in Paris

Which one is best.

open tours bus paris

This post reviews and compares the various Paris hop-on hop-off bus tours, and includes all the information you need to decide which one may be best for you.

Our Paris tour guides get asked all the time by our tour guests about bus tours and which are the best. It’s part of our guides’ jobs to be well-informed to answer these questions thoughtfully.

This post was written with our first-hand experience with hop-on hop-off tours, as well as looking at the opinions of members of some of the many Paris travel Facebook groups, which you can see at the bottom of this post .

IS A HOP ON HOP OFF PARIS BUS TOUR WORTH IT?

Before we can answer this question, let’s go over how these sightseeing tours operate.

Guests ride on a large double-decker, open-top bus that drives around Paris on a set route with stops near historic monuments and popular attractions.

Guests can get off the bus at the stops they desire, explore at their own pace, and then get back on the next bus that comes along at the nearest stop.

There is no obligation to get off the bus, and you can do the complete route, usually between 1 ½  to 2 hours.

In most cases, tickets are sold for 1 day, 2 days or 3 days and there is no limit on how many times you can get on and off back onto the bus.

Now that you have the basics, let’s look at the pros and cons of these tours.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Hasan Khan (@thesimpletravelblog)

Hop-on-hop-off bus tours are a perfect combination of getting an overview of Paris, traveling between popular landmarks with ease and learning about the city.

Here’s how to use them to maximize your money and time.

Hop on and off at your own pace

Get off at any or all stops to see the landmarks and neighborhoods that most interest you. When you are ready to move on, hop back on at whatever stop you are nearest.

These tours have apps that show you live bus arrival times and convenient detailed maps.

This makes sightseeing super easy!

Get an overview of the city

These tours offer an excellent introduction to Paris. If you choose to do the full route first, you’ll be able to decide which attractions you want to go back and see.

With audio commentary in multiple languages, you’ll learn about the sights you see.

Some tours have a kids’ version of audio commentary so this is a perfect family activity.

Save money on transportation

A bus tour gives you between 9 to 12 hours per day of transport to major attractions in Paris.

Since you can use the bus as many times as you want, you can ride the bus between destinations and neighborhoods on the route.

Depending on where you want to go in Paris, you may be able to skip the metro, taxis, and other forms of transportation completely!

This is especially helpful if you end up getting either a 2 or 3-day ticket!

Reasonably priced service

You get a lot for your money, considering that you'll get a sightseeing tour and transportation between attractions and neighborhoods for as long as your pass lasts.

Since you have to get around the city anyway, this can save you money.

Better still, some bus tickets come with additional tours like a river cruise or night tour giving you much more for one low price.

As you can see above, there are plenty of reasons to take a hop-on-hop-off bus tour.

However, there are some aspects of this service that you may want to consider before making your purchase.

Basic commentary

For many people who take these tours, the details in the audio commentary are satisfactory.

If you want in-depth insight and additional historical information, you may want to combine this service with a guided walking tour of Paris.

Not the fastest transportation

Because the bus stops multiple times to let passengers embark and disembark, it isn’t the fastest way to get around Paris.

If you want to get around the city at a faster pace, another form of transportation and/or another type of guided tour might be better for you.

No assigned seating

Most hop-on-hop-off bus tours offer first-come, first-served seating. This may not be a concern during off-peak tourist season when buses might not be full.

But in peak season, it might be difficult to find a good seat on the bus.

Big Bus Tours

Formerly called Les Cars Rouges (Red Buses), Big Bus Tours has been in business since 1991.

They are probably the most notable hop-on-hop-off sightseeing tour bus in Paris.

This is an international company that provides services all over the world, and they are generally well-liked.

In total, there are 10 significant stops on their classic route. No matter what attractions you want to visit, chances are that Big Bus will take you there.

Note that one-day tours have two options, one with a river cruise (Essential) and one without (Discover). The tour with the cruise is only a few euros more, so this combination ticket is a good deal if you are considering taking a cruise.

Big Bus Paris averages 4 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor and Get Your Guide.

TIP: The Big Bus tours are included for free with the purchase of the  Paris Pass , a tourist attraction attraction card.

Admission Prices Online (Save 20%) Online tickets are a better deal than paper tickets, and the 2-day ticket option for two consecutive days is a much better deal than the 1-day choice.

Note that this deal doesn’t apply to same-day online purchases.

All the LIV Golf players in the 2024 Paris Olympics

The men’s and women’s 60-person fields for the 2024 Paris Olympics have been solidified.

The men’s field has been set since the 2024 U.S. Open results were made official. Controversially, LIV Golf League star Bryson DeChambeau — who ranks sixth on DataGolf , based on his performance in all three majors — will not be a part of Team USA’s delegation.

Instead, PGA Tour stalwarts Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa (all inarguable selections) and Wyndham Clark (ranked 27th on DataGolf) will head to Paris. Schauffele is the defending golf medalist.

Qualification criteria for men’s Olympic golf is based on the Official World Golf Ranking. DeChambeau’s omission shed a fresh light on the embattled OWGR, which has yet to recognize LIV results. The two-time major champion is ranked ninth, four spots below Clark. No country can take more than four top-15 players.

That said, there are seven LIV Golf League members going for gold.

LIV Golf players in Paris Olympics

Jon Rahm:  Rahm (and Puig) will be making their Olympic debuts.

Rahm struggled in the first two majors of 2024 and was a late scratch for the U.S. Open due to a toe infection . He’s played well on LIV, though; His Legion XIII team has two wins, including last week’s shindig in Nashville.

The 2023 Masters champion ranks second in the individual points standings, though he’s still looking for his first first-place finish.

David Puig: Puig has quickly established himself as a rising star in global golf. The 22-year-old was one of the few LIV Golfers to earn a spot in the U.S. Open through qualifying. He finished T55 (+11), but the made cut on top of two prior Asian Tour wins vaulted him into the Olympics field.

“Proud of myself and all the work I put in this year and last year,” said the Spaniard. “All the travel I did, I think it paid off for moments like this. I’m super-excited.”

Joaquin Niemann: Niemann is one of most promising talents to depart the PGA Tour. At LIV, the 25-year-old has banked two wins and leads the individual points standings.

He earned a spot in two majors thanks to his win at the Australian Open in December. Niemann finished T10 in 2021 in Tokyo.

Mito Peirera: Pereira was a late sub after Cristobal del Solar withdrew to focus on upcoming Korn Ferry Tour events. The 29-year-old part-took in the seven-way playoff for bronze at the Tokyo Games (C.T. Pan triumphed).

Carlos Ortiz:  Ortiz, a member of Niemann’s Torque GC squad, recently found the winner’s circle at LIV Houston. He finished T42 in his Olympics debut.

Abraham Ancer:  Ancer has fallen dramatically in the world rankings, but he’s a top-20 talent. The Mexican finished T14 in the 2020 Summer Games. He has four top-10 finishes in eight LIV Golf events, headlined by a victory in Hong Kong.

Adam Meronk:  Meronk finished T51 at the Tokyo Games. The 31-year-old is headed to France for his performance on the DP World Tour and other international events from 2022-23.

Olympic golf is comprised of 72 holes of individual stroke play and no cut. The men will compete from Aug. 1-4. The women will tee off on Aug. 7.

For all the fair criticism of the LIV product, the Saudi-backed circuit is at its best when it leans into its international and team components, such as in Adelaide, where Cam Smith’s all-Aussie Ripper squad bested the South African-led Stinger GC in a rowdy playoff.

Le Golf National, located outside of Paris, hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup.

Avril Lavigne Takes a Break From Touring for Couture Week

By Hannah Jackson

PARIS FRANCE JUNE 24 Avril Lavigne attends the Iris Van Herpen Haute Couture FallWinter 20242025 show as part of Paris...

For Avril Lavigne , nothing is complicated about Paris. “My father was born here," she tells Vogue. "I used to live here and I took French classes, so I actually know the city very well. I feel very connected to Paris.”

Just days after she released her Greatest Hits record, Lavigne took to Paris for Iris van Herpen’s museum-like fall 2024 couture show . Straight from the Southside Festival in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, she hopped right into glam. “I got in and had a crêpe, French toast, and a cappuccino,” she says. While this may be her first couture show of the season, Lavigne is no stranger to fashion week. “My first time at Paris Fashion Week was a Chanel show and it was so wonderful. I hung out with Karl Lagerfeld and went to visit the Coco Chanel apartment,” she recalls. “I did my own hair and makeup that trip and kept it very minimal, and enjoyed wearing such iconic, beautiful garments.”

This time around, the Sk8r Boi singer is trading in her miniskirt and combat boots for a sculptural black-and-white piece by van Herpen. “I love to go extra for a fashion show and really experiment with new hairstyles and more experimental makeup looks. And I am willing to try anything wild and out there clothing wise! It’s all about having an open mind,” she says. As for what drew her to this specific dress? “It was a very different silhouette and fabric than I am used to which made it fun.”

Below, Avril Lavigne brought Vogue along as she attended the Iris van Herpen fall 2024 couture show in Paris.

Rory McIlroy’s time off ‘exactly what he should be doing,’ PGA Tour commissioner says

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — No hard feelings, Rory.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said he understands why Rory McIlroy withdrew from the Travelers Championship — the final signature event on the calendar — to recover from a late-Sunday meltdown at the U.S. Open .

“Sometimes you just need to focus on what you need,” Monahan said on Wednesday, a day before the tournament at TPC River Highlands outside of Hartford. “And that’s what he’s doing and that’s exactly what he should be doing because that’s what he thinks is the right path.”

McIlroy twice had a one-shot lead at Pinehurst No. 2 before he bogeyed three of the last four holes, missing a pair of par putts from inside 4 feet. Instead of McIlroy’s fifth major championship — and his first in 10 years — Bryson DeChambeau claimed his second .

On Monday, McIlroy said on social media that he would be taking three weeks off to “build myself back up.” He is planning to return July 10-13 for the Scottish Open, where he is the defending champion, followed by the British Open the following week at Royal Troon in Scotland.

Without him, there will be 71 players teeing off on Thursday in the limited field, no-cut signature event at the TPC River Highlands. McIlroy is the only one in the top eight in the world ranking or the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings who will miss it.

“You look at the quality of the field that we have this week, we’re going to have a great Travelers Championship,” Monahan said. “And I’m looking forward to getting Rory back in Scotland.”

Enemy territory

The Travelers Championship is the one week of the year that Keegan Bradley has bragging rights over world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Not only is Bradley the defending champion at the TPC River Highlands, but the native New Englander can remind his Texan rival how the NBA Finals turned out. Bradley’s Boston Celtics beat Scheffler’s Dallas Mavericks in a Game 5 clincher on Monday night.

Asked about arriving in Celtics country so soon after Boston won its unprecedented 18th NBA championship, Scheffler joked, “Do I have to answer that question?” Scheffler said he hasn’t heard any razzing on the course but one fan asked him to sign a Celtics hat.

He declined.

“I don’t blame him,” Bradley said. “I wouldn’t want to either if I was a Dallas fan.”

Bradley grew up in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts as a fervid Boston sports fan and married the niece of baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk. At a Fenway Park news conference last fall to introduce the local franchise in the new, high-tech TGL circuit, he described the thrill of seeing the Red Sox clubhouse and giving Englishman Tyrrell Hatton a tour of the ballpark.

The Travelers presented Bradley with one of Fenway’s wooden seats at the tournament’s media day in April.

“It’s one of the coolest gifts I’ve ever gotten — probably the coolest gift I’ve ever gotten in my life,” he said. “To have a seat from Fenway Park in your house is pretty spectacular.”

Paris preview

The Travelers will feature 22 players out of the 60 who have qualified for the Paris Olympics , including all four Americans: Scheffler, defending gold medalist Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa.

Others include Ludvig Aberg (Sweden), Viktor Hovland (Norway), Hideki Matsuyama (Japan) and Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick. Although they will be playing for their countries, the Olympics is a 72-hole, stroke-play tournament will award medals to the individuals with the low scores.

“There is no team aspect of it. It would be cool if there was,” said Morikawa, who finished fourth in Tokyo, losing in a seven-man, sudden-death playoff for the bronze medal on the fourth extra hole. “Caddies are definitely going to scout the course together, they’re going to do you all the prep together, a lot of sharing information, just as if it were a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup kind of in that sense. But when it comes down to it on Thursday, it’s our event, it’s our own individual event.”

That doesn’t mean there’s no patriotism involved.

“I’m not necessarily going to go out and try to play too many practice rounds with somebody from a different country,” said Scheffler, who will be making his Olympic debut and confessed he hadn’t really thought about it. “We’re trying to go over there and earn a medal for the USA so it will probably be a closer-knit circle as we go over there.”

The rankings to determine Olympic spots were finalized with the conclusion of the U.S. Open. Countries are limited to two players, unless their third- and fourth-best players are ranked within the top 15 in the world.

Golf was in the Olympics early in the last century before it was dropped from the program for more than 100 years. It returned in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, making this the third go-round.

Scheffler said he is excited to be a part of the Summer Games and check out other sports, including basketball and tennis. He also wanted to make a trip to the Olympic Village to watch the other athletes train.

“I grew up playing a ton of sports, and so to be able to see the best in the world at their craft would be pretty special,” he said.
