Senegal Population – 16,755,431 Language – French Currency – WA CFA Time Zone – GMT Capital – Dakar

Located on the most western point of Africa with its warm, colourful, diverse culture, intriguing history and welcoming locals collectively making Senegal the ideal location for a West African adventure.

This former French colony oozes the exotic as we walk the vibrant markets, narrow streets, and ancient slow-paced colonial towns to the backdrop of wonderful melodies of local musicians. Sandwiched between the rolling waves of the Atlantic and the encroaching sands of the Sahara Senegal offers exceptional experiences in culture, history wildlife and birding. Senegal gained independence from France on the 4th April 1960 and is made up of 20 ethnic groups with the largest population being Wolof followed by Fula, Serer and Mandinka almost all emphatically Muslim. Taking a city tour of Dakar to visit the museums, monuments and historical sites of interest along with a visit to learn the dark colonial past of the slave trade whilst touring Goree Island a UNESCO World heritage site makes for an interesting and emotional experience. Timing your visit to take in some of the fantastic music and art festivals in Dakar or heading off the beaten track venturing to the north on a cultural expedition, the options here are endless. If nature is your thing then you’re in luck as Senegal boasts some of the best birdwatching in this region, couple this with some excellent National Parks to explore, the only question is, do you have enough time to fit it all in.

Senegal Heritage and Historical Tours

Dakar is a wonderful city to start our historical and heritage journey of discovery with excellent hotels, restaurants and a great buzz and vibe of the big city..

Heading out to discover the IFAN museum one of the oldest in West Africa for an important glimpse into this region’s history and taking an excursion to see one of the most important religious buildings in Senegal the Dakar Grande Mosque is intriguing to say the least. Goree Island off the coast of Dakar was one of the largest slave trading centres on the African coast from the 15th to 19th century. The contrast between the grim slave dungeons and the elegant colonial houses of the slave traders on the Island, today serve as a stark reminder and silent memorial of the human exploitation and suffering. Heading further afield to the former capital St Louis and its charming old colonial architecture, taking in some of the many festivals of art, music and heritage that include the world-famous St Louis Jazz Festival. There is just so much to do in Senegal and our tours can be customized to focus on additional areas of interest and venture to all corners of this wonderful land.

Senegal Cultural Tours

We hope you are ready to immerse yourselves into the rich, colourful, diverse cultures we encounter during our senegal cultural tours..

Local markets, ancient craft villages, city walking tours taking in the charming back streets and fading architecture of the colonial past in these exotic towns and cities. Heading out to the former capital St Louis past the Pink Lake to meet the Fulani people harvesting salt and experiencing the world famous Paris to Dakar Rally as we cross sand dunes in 4×4’s on our way to meet a traditional Wolof community. St Louis itself is possibly Senegal’s most charming town, we continue to the Holy city of Touba and meet the Mourid community to see their beautiful Mosque that seems to rise from the desert as we approach. Kaolack is a must visit and its local markets a great place to buy traditional fabrics and if you enjoy nature then a ride along the Saloum River enjoying the amazing birdlife is an amazing excursion. Crossing the Saloum Delta to Joal Fadiouth the hometown of Senegal’s first President Leopold Sedard Sedar a wonderful indigenous community adds a bit of history to our cultural adventure. Our tours can be customized to incorporate additional areas of interest and to visit all locations here in Senegal.

Ashanti would like to think most international travellers coming to West Africa care about the locations they visit and about having a positive impact during their time here. Booking with a responsible travel company goes a long way to achieving this. Many companies state they benefit locals and conservation when they do extraordinarily little and are more focused on their profit margins. Ashanti are West Africa’s leading travel company putting their profits back into building schools, protecting wildlife, rainforest, biodiversity and connecting communities to the conservation of their environment through community development initiatives connected to eco-tourism. We Offset Your Trips Carbon Footprint

We plant 3 indigenous forest tree species for every person that travels with us. The main aim for this project is carbon offsetting – guests choosing to travel with us would offset their flights to/from West Africa by more than 15 times if the trees live to their expected lifespan. This is based on projected carbon dioxide generated on a return flight for the average guest (approximately 900kg/1980 lbs). The average tropical tree can absorb approximately 48lbs of carbon per year (when mature) and in West Africa it takes 30-50 years for a tropical tree species to grow to maturity, with an average life expectancy of 200-300 years. If the trees we plant for each guest are continued to be protected, then we are confident that we will be making a big difference in carbon offsetting: 3 trees planted would each absorb approximately 10,080 lbs of carbon, totalling 30,240 lbs/13,745 kg for all 3 trees (per guest).

If you're even considering this tour, we highly recommend you book now. This tour is a great way to be introduced to Senegal and Ghana since they offer two different experiences but both in West Africa. If we could do anything differently, it would only be to add on the 2 day tour to see Saint Louis in Senegal because we would have liked to spend more time there. Our tour guide in Senegal was Abou and our driver was Ibou. Both were absolutely fabulous. Abou was willing to teach us about his country including some phrases in Wolof, answer all our questions, take us to delicious restaurants to try local food, and make sure we were always taken care of. Senegal is an amazing country with extremely welcoming people and a rich culture. In Ghana, our tour guide was Elvis. This tour is a good introduction to Ghana from bustling Accra to local crafts in Kumasi to the beautiful Cape Coast/Elmina area with its educational history. The people of Ghana were also very welcoming and we enjoyed the food and culture. This is a great local company with local guides and a local perspective. This trip truly enhanced our lives.
Well organized tour. Pullman was the best hotel other hotels need little upgrade and better breakfasts. Best were the guides: Abu in Senegal and Martina in Ghana. They had a profound knowledge of both countries respectively and tried the best to accommodate us with places ,food and shopping. Martina was going above and beyond looking for strange food that we wanted to try, good pictures we wanted to take. She even lended us some local money when we got short and even mailed our postcards. We can wholeheartedly recommend her to anybody who wants to travel to Ghana.

Most reviewers like to talk about the highlights of their trip and I could do that. There were amazing things to see. Walking with lions was something I'll never forget and it was a great adventure. But let me talk about some lowlights. My flight out of Chicago was delayed, so I was one day behind and my luggage didn't arrive. This is what Africa for Tourism, Yusuf , and Alou (my guide) did for me. They completely rearranged the schedule so I could still see the things I wanted to see. Alou took me clothes shopping, so I had something until my clothes arrived and acted as my bargaining agent as always. He found ATMs for me When luggage finally arrived they drove it several kilometers to where I was staying. I had a friend in Senegal, Alou offered to drive me to her house, something above and beyond. Alou found field glasses for me, since mine were in my luggage at the time. Most tours can handle the expected, but it's when the unfortunate things happen that it's their moment to shine. Tourism for Africa did that. Please look at the brochure to see all Senegal has to offer, and know that if use Africa for Tourism, you will be well cared for.
Good driver guide. Good variety of places to visit-big city, small city, resort in a village, and the camp was fun. Lots of good food, and nice hotels.

Mr Lamp Fall (Mamadou Diagne) & his driver Doudou were both simply amazing guides. I felt very safe with them. The tour itself was fantastic - the itinerary was great! My only recommendation was to add Djouj Bird Sanctuary (which we did, per Mr Fall's recommendation & per my request as well), I realize that portion is seasonal. I also recommend making it very clear that the tour Starts in Dakar but ENDS in Saly- it was a little confusing because there was a discrepancy between what the itinerary said versus the actual VOUCHER. Also, a faster responsiveness from both Tour Radar and/or the tour operator would definitely make a positive difference! I also suggest adding on the "Things You Must Know list" = is to add that most places we went for shopping do NOT take credit cards so to bring lots of CASH (for shoppers) & small change as many merchants seemed to be short on change. Also to bring personal toilet paper as many public bathrooms do not have it. Otherwise, the tour overall was FANTASTIC & I highly recommend it!!
This was a lovely trip, off the beaten track, seeing some of the highlights of Senegal. A really interesting eye opener as I really did not know what to expect. My tour guide and driver were really lovely and looked after me (I was the only person on the trip). I loved the variety in places I stayed from a standard hotel to desert tent to cute resort hut to a more refined beach resort. There are very long drives to get from one place to another so that is something you need to be prepared for, more time driving than at the sights, however I saw a lot of real life in several Senegalese towns from the car. The national dish of thieboudienne did not make its way on tourist restaurant menus, but after saying how much I wanted to try it, my tour driver took me to a place to try it on my final day...it was worth the wait :). This trip has a lot of spare time in the evenings so plenty of time to rest ahead of the next day. We usually set off soon after breakfast, between 8am and 9ish..so sociable times and on most days I was dropped off at my accommodation at around 5ish. So a big thank you to Dioudiou the driver and my tour guide Mr Jang (I think that was his name, we got introduced after I got off the plane and I didnt double check!) for their wonderful hospitality, it felt like having my own little family abroad.

Everything to be expected on a trip like this to West Africa. Its not 5 star hotels and bug free but that is ok and makes it more of an adventurous and exciting tour. Our guide Abdou was the best and kept us entertained and fed many times a day. I def recommend doing this trip early November at the beginning of the dry season with less mosquitoes. Although mossy nets are provided throughout the trip. Im also a part time bird watcher and spotted over 200 species in 10 days. This is my 2nd trip with Penguin and will use them again in 2024.

Safety in Senegal – Senegal is a safe West African country to visit, especially for solo female travellers. Though no country is 100% safe, Senegal is one of the safer African countries. If you’re in the capital Dakar, it’s best practice to always walk with a purpose (don’t look like a tourist or lost), If you are lost always go into a shop to ask directions rather than strangers on the street. As a solo female traveller you should also be mindful of your things, whether that’s your bag at a restaurant or drinks at a bar, never leave your things unattended.

If you don’t look Senegalese you can get unwanted attention from people especially beggars. It can also be a hassle trying to get a taxi as the drivers may inflate their prices, that’s why it’s handy to read my tips mentioned below.

Solo travel in Senegal

Senegal is a very relaxed and liberal country but is still an Islamic country so modesty should be taken into consideration. As Senegal is an Islamic country, their toilets often look different. Some places have squatting toilets whilst others have normal toilets but it’s very hard to find toilet paper. This is as they often use a hose in the stall to clean themselves rather than toilet paper. I recommend trying it out for a new experience but also keeping some pocket tissues to hand too.

If you plan to stay in the country for a long time, it may be useful for you to get a sim card, these can easily be bought in phone shops. Public WiFi is not really common. Though some upscale restaurants do have WiFi, it may be safer as a solo female traveller to stay connected on your go throughout the city too.

Backpacking in Senegal is definitely doable as there are hostels that you can stay in to meet others and transport is cheap, but you won’t find that many people backpacking in Senegal.

Saly's Beach

Here are the best ways to meet people in Dakar:

  • Stay in a hostel. I’ve found that staying in hostels really helped me to meet new people and go on adventures together and Dakar was no different. With so many cheap hostels around, it’s more than worth a try.
  • Take a tour. There are so many experiences and tours in Dakar which will not only help you see the sights of the city but are also a great way for you to meet fellow travellers.
  • Joining some clubs. Now I didn’t personally use this method, but I did hear from other travellers that this is a good way to meet people. Using sites like Facebook and joining groups is a great way to get the ball rolling.

Senegal is situated on the coast of West Africa. Its neighbouring countries are  Gambia ,  Guinea Bissau ,  Guinea ,  Mali  and  Mauritania . This country is by far one of my favourite African countries and one of those African countries that feels a lot like Europe. Dakar is a beautiful, bustling city, with so many cool places to visit. With frequent public transport, google maps will be your best friend in finding your way around the city.

Depending on your itinerary, I’d say that 5 days to a week in Dakar would be enough to really see what the capital has to offer. Dakar also has a lot of hidden gems such as dream park on the southern part of the city. Make sure you ask some locals, hotel staff, expats etc. to fully get to see what this city has to offer. In the meantime, here are some must visit sites.  * Read more: Places To Visit in Dakar

Solo Travel in Senegal

Goree Island

If there’s one must visit place in Dakar, this is it! Just off the course of mainland Senegal, Goree Island offers a better understanding the transatlantic slave trade and Senegalese history. From museums to well preserved buildings, this UNESECO World Heritage Site truly feels like you’re stepping back in time. This island is a chilling reminder of the scar of slavery many African countries still carry. I advise going with a tour guide, you can hire them before you get at the port where you buy tickets to the island or on the island. (Senegalese and Africans get a discounted rate onto the island)

Solo travel in Senegal

The African Renaissance Monument

This is the tallest African statue and an undeniably breath-taking copper statue in the capital. A must see in Dakar and one of the popular Senegal tourist attractions. This monument celebrates not only Senegalese liberation but African liberation from colonialism. This magnificent statue was created in hopes of becoming an international tourist attraction like the statue of liberty. I hope you like stairs because just like the road to freedom, it is a long climb up.

solo travel in Senegal

Niokolo-Koba National Park . This is a UNESCO World Heritage site is Senegal’s largest national park. This protected area is home to some amazing biodiversity. This is a great place for bird lovers who’d be able to get close up views of flamencos, pelicans and even elephants!

The IFAN Museum and Museum of Black Civilizations are great places to go to explore more of West African culture. With a hundred artefacts, from African clothing styles to traditional armour dating back hundreds of years. A must visit if you’re in Dakar. Henriette Bathily museum is also worth a look for those who’d like to know how Senegalese women live their daily lives.

Or pay a visit to Village des Arts. This gallery is perfect for art lovers as it showcases some amazing art pieces from local Senegalese artists and painters.

Though not technically in Dakar, the Stones of Senegambia are still worth the trip. Scattered around Senegal and Gambia, these UNESCO World heritage sites date back to the 3rd century BC. and are historical landmarks. Whilst some speculate these stones to be a burial ground, others believe the stones were placed there by Gods and have spiritual meaning. Either way, they sure are an archaeological wonder.

solo travel in Senegal

For those adventure seekers, why not visit Fathala Wildlife reserve . This reserve is home to hundreds of animals including endangered animals such as rhinos, warthogs, buffaloes and more. You can even get the unique experience to walk with lions. Bet you don’t have the opportunity to do that everyday.

The Djoudj National Bird Park  is the 3rd sanctuary in the world and a paradise for bird lovers. With over 350 different bird species migrating to and from this park, don’t miss out on a chance to see some beautiful birds such as pelicans and flamingos. But if birds aren’t your thing, this park is also home to other animals like monkeys, warthogs and even crocodiles.

Chill in N’gor, an upscale part of Dakar and the go to area for parties and bars. With amazing rooftop bars, good music and cheap drinks, you’re bound to have a great time here.

solo travel in Senegal

Other unique things to do in Senegal include taking a boat ride across Lac Rose. Also known as Lake Retba, This is a beautiful lake located 45km from central Dakar and is naturally pink due to the high salt content. Though when I went, it wasn’t particularly pink, it is worth a visit if you have extra time on your trip as the landscape and area alone are very different to inner city Dakar.

Another of the things to see in Senegal is the Mosque of Divinity. This mosque is located in Ouakam, a neighbourhood in Dakar and stands tall on the edge of the Atlantic ocean. Why not take a trip to see it and marvel at the amazing architecture.

Try their renowned rice. Wolof rice also commonly known as jollof rice is a popular staple dish across west Africa which has existed for centuries! It is said to have originated in Senegal. This dish can be commonly found in most restaurants and is typically served with meat or fish and salad. Why not try it out and tell us what you think?

Head to Marche Sandaga. This local market is home to some amazing Senegalese artwork. Located in the Dakar-plateau (southern part of the city) You can walk around this market to find textiles, home wear, African printed clothing and much more! Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, It’s well worth a look around.

Head to the Beach. Dakar has some undeniably great beaches with neighbourhoods like Ngor being notoriously loved by surfers. With amazing sandy beaches and great local food close by, you definitely won’t be disappointed making Dakar your next holiday destination.

Get Your Guide – Get Your Guide helps you to find top-rated activities and day tours in worldwide destinations including Senegal. Choose from a Goree Island half-day tour from Dakar or Saly, a pink lake tour, or a trip to Ngor or the Bandia Wildlife Reserve. Although some of the tours are for a minimum of 2 people, there are several tours to choose from for one, and it’s really simple to use. Just check the reviews, price and availability then book online, or read my review.

Transport may be your biggest expense here as taxi drivers are often opportunists inflating the prices for tourists. Especially at the airports so I recommend getting the coach to downtown Dakar. In Dakar haggling with taxi drivers is a must, even for locals and knowing a bit of Wolof can help with this. Busses are cheaper but often confusing to navigate for a non-local as bus stops are not clearly marked so you’re better off practicing on your negotiation skills.

* Rome2Rio is a good resource for planning your way around

With the rise of tourism to the country’s capital, Dakar has a lot of cheaper accommodations which are now available. An average night in a hostel will cost around $5 per person per night with 5-star hotels costing around $150 a night.

The best area to stay in Senegal depends on what type of experience you are looking for. I’d advice staying in the Yoff or Ngor which are the suburb regions of Dakar. They are more upscale with a lot of nice bars, restaurants and shops without the noise of the bustling city centre.

Plus there’s Airbnb which offers rental accommodation in Senegal on a short-term basis and rooms in Australia with a local. You can stay in a private room in a local's house or rent their whole apartment. Save $20 off your first stay with this Airbnb link .

The perfect no rush 14 days Senegal itinerary.

14 days Senegal itinerary

Table of Contents

Are you planning a two week itinerary in Senegal ? Are you wondering what to see in two weeks in Senegal ? Are you having trouble putting together a 14 days Senegal itinerary that doesn’t feel too rushed?

Then you came to the right place! In this post I’m going to share with you my personal Senegal itinerary.

Let me start by saying that traveling in Senegal is safe . We often travelled by public transport in Senegal and we never felt fear. However, knowing your own limits and your own place is very important, especially in the non-touristy area. Anyway, always keep your personal belongings guarded, especially in crowded areas such as markets or bus stations.

Alessandro and I travelled in Senegal independently. I mean without hiring a guide, and I’m here to say that if you plan well in advance, you will end up taking back home some of the best memories of your life.

That’s why I published this 14 days Senegal itinerary full of inspiration so you can put together your own travel plan to Senegal.

We landed at the Blaise Diagne International airport in Dakar and drove straight to the Retba Lake in Niaga, choosing Dakar as last destination of our 14 day Senegal itinerary.

Day 1: Retba Lake.

senegal tour expenses

Our 14 day Senegal itinerary started at the Retba lake in Niaga. It lies 30 km northeast from the Blaise Diagne International Airport, less than an hour’s drive. Retba Lake is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Senegal .

The interesting thing to see here is not only the pink coloured waters but especially the salt extracting activity. There are several excursions offered at this site and in my experience the boat trip on the Pink Lake in Senegal is a must.

One full day is enough to explore the area.

Day 2: Lompoul Desert.

Desert tents in Lompoul

Lompoul Desert is an 18 km2 desert located right in the Lompoul Village . It’s really worth it since the presence of such a small desert in Senegal is so unusual. Just as at the pink lake, in the Lompoul village you will have a chance to select from the many excursions.

We tried the camel ride in the Lompoul Desert which was organized by the Camp Du Desert camp , the hotel we were saying at.

Day 3/4/5: Saint Louis.

14 days senegal itinerary

Saint Louis (or Ndar in Wolof) is listed among the Unesco World Heritage sites and it is West Africa’s first French settlement. The three days spent in Saint Louis are three days well spent. The colonial architectural style and charm that you will see right after crossing the Faidherbe Bridge won’t fail to surprise you.

Walking among the boutique shops, tailors’ workshops, and art galleries in Saint Louis is really a pleasure.

Here in Saint Louis there are several European tour operators who organize day trips from Saint Louis to many different places. We did none of that. We just went strolling around in Saint Louis with no fixed plans. We also visited the less touristy area close to the beach which lies on the external mainland. It deserves a visit.

Day 6: Bandia Reserve.

14 days Senegal itinerary

Bandia Reserve is a small, fenced Nature Reserve of about 3500 hectors in the village of Bandia. It is a privately owned Reserve where you need a four-wheel vehicle to explore the entire area.

Now, exactly for these reasons, Bandia Reserve safari is not like all the others in Africa, but it is perfect for those who are seeking wildlife in Africa for the first time.

Day 7/8: Ndangare/Palmarine.

Driving from Ndangane to Karang

Your 14 day Senegal itinerary should definitely include the Palmarine area. Ndangane is a base for exploring the Sine Saloum Delta. From the touristy point of view it is quite well equipped. There are many restaurants and aperitif bars along the main street in Ndangane. And all of them organize boat trips in the Sine Saloum Delta.

Actually, I loved this part of my Senegal itinerary a lot. But the reason why I’m suggesting that you spend two days in Ndangane is because journeys in Senegal are always very long due to the old vehicles they use. So once in a while, when you find your comfort zone, you need to stop and breathe before starting another trip.

Day 9: Joal Fadiouth.

14 days Senegal Itinerary

Your 14 day Senegal itinerary can’t leave out Joal Fadiouth. Joal lies on the mainland, while the village of Fadiouth, linked to Joal by a wooden bridge, lies on an island (it seems like an island because it lies on a lagoon).

The notable aspect of Joal Fadiouth is that they collect shells around the lagoon and make wonderful craft items . It’s amazing to see that the entire village of Fadiouth is made of shells.

Once you cross the wooden bridge and reach the Fadiouth village, you can take a horse ride or donkey ride to see one of the oldest and biggest Baobao trees of Senegal .

Day 10/11: Saly.

Saly Senegal

Contrary to what you might think, tourism in Saly started back in 1995 and it remains today one of the best beach resort areas of Senegal.

Therefore, it goes without saying that the village of Saly features hotels, restaurants, and bars for any type of tourist. Many of these are located seafront from where you can admire amazing sunsets.

Day 12: Goree Island.

14 days Senegal Itinerary

After relaxing on the beaches of Saly, take a day trip to Goree Island. It is one of the most heart wrenching parts of Senegal since it’s known for its role in the 15th- to 19th-century slave trade.

Gorée is a tiny, car-free island off the coast of the capital Dakar. The house of slaves and the point of no return are certainly among the once in a lifetime things to see.

In the past, Goree Island was ruled in succession by the Portuguese, Dutch, English, and French. Its colonial architecture is in fact characterized by its colonizers and it expresses the contrast between the gloomy slave quarters and elegant houses of the slave traders .

This is why strolling around the narrow streets of Goree Island is really interesting.

Day 13/14: Dakar.

Things to do in Dakar

Spending a couple of days in Dakar helps you to taste the urban life of the Senegalese capital. There are numerous activities to do here, among them I feel like I should advise you to check out the Village Des Art .

If you are able to, you can stay even longer in Dakar because as I said, there are so many choices to keep you busy.

14 days Senegal map

Since life in Africa is so different from your normal one at home, after only two weeks in Senegal you will feel like you have stayed for so long and that you have done and seen so much. This is why I don’t suggest running and running to see everything.

This 14 day Senegal itinerary is created to give you the essential together with some relaxation so that you return home with only good memories and not feel like you went through a lot of trouble.

Yes. Because in Senegal moving from one place to another is hard. A journey of just 60 km can last 6 hours. Their vehicles are old and break downs are frequent. Your plans need to allow for this so that your visit isn’t spoiled. That’s why I suggest this 14 day no rush Senegal itinerary. Limit the places to see, relax, and see what you can.

  • How much does it cost for flights when traveling to Senegal?

Planning a trip to Senegal? One of the first things you'll need to consider is the cost of flights. The price can vary depending on several factors, including your departure location, the time of year, the airline you choose, and the availability of tickets. Let's take a closer look at the general range of flight costs to Senegal from major cities around the world.

When it comes to booking flights, the departure location plays a significant role in determining the cost. For example, if you're flying from New York City, you can expect to pay around $800 to $1,200 for a one-way ticket to Senegal. On the other hand, if you're departing from London, the price range may be slightly higher, ranging from $900 to $1,500.

Another factor that influences flight costs is the time of year. During peak travel seasons, such as summer or major holidays, prices tend to be higher. For instance, if you plan to visit Senegal during the Christmas holidays, you might see prices increase by 20% to 30% compared to other times of the year.

The airline you choose can also impact the cost of your trip to Senegal. Different airlines have different pricing strategies, and some may offer more competitive rates than others. It's always a good idea to compare prices and check for any ongoing promotions or discounts.

Lastly, ticket availability can affect flight costs. If you're booking last minute or during a busy travel period, you may find that prices are higher due to limited availability. On the other hand, booking in advance or during off-peak seasons can help you secure better deals.

Now, let's talk about the general range of round-trip ticket costs to Senegal from various major cities. From New York City, you can expect to pay anywhere between $1,200 and $2,000 for an economy class ticket. If you're looking for a more luxurious experience, business class tickets range from $2,500 to $4,000. From London, the price range for round-trip economy class tickets is around $1,500 to $2,500, while business class tickets can go up to $5,000.

Remember, these are just general estimates, and prices can vary depending on the factors mentioned earlier. It's always a good idea to use a reliable flight search engine to get the most accurate and up-to-date prices for your specific travel dates.

So, if you're dreaming of exploring the vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and rich history of Senegal, be sure to consider the cost of flights when planning your trip. With a little research and flexibility, you can find the best deals that suit your budget and make your Senegal adventure a reality!

  • How much does it cost for hotels when traveling to Senegal?

senegal tour expenses

When planning a trip to Senegal, one of the key factors to consider is the cost of accommodation. The price of hotels in this vibrant West African country can vary depending on several factors, including the location, season, and the type of accommodation you are looking for.

It's no surprise that hotels in major cities like Dakar, Saint-Louis, and Thiès tend to be more expensive compared to hotels in smaller cities or rural areas. The bustling urban centers offer a wide range of amenities and attractions, which often come with a higher price tag. So, if you're planning to explore the vibrant streets of Dakar or soak up the colonial charm of Saint-Louis, be prepared to spend a bit more on your accommodation.

In major cities, the cost of a mid-range hotel room can range from approximately $80 to $150 per night. For those seeking a more luxurious experience, the price for a luxury hotel room can range from around $200 to $500 per night. These prices are indicative and can vary depending on the specific hotel and the time of year you plan to visit.

On the other hand, if you're looking to explore the lesser-known cities and smaller towns of Senegal, you'll find that hotel prices are generally more affordable. In these areas, the cost of a mid-range hotel room can range from approximately $50 to $100 per night, while a luxury hotel room can range from around $150 to $300 per night. Again, these prices are just estimates and can vary based on the location and the specific hotel you choose.

So, whether you're planning to immerse yourself in the vibrant city life or explore the hidden gems of Senegal's smaller towns, it's important to consider the cost of hotels. By understanding the price ranges in different locations, you can better plan your budget and make the most of your trip to Senegal.

  • How much does it cost for food when traveling to Senegal?

When planning a trip to Senegal, it's important to consider the cost of food and dining. The prices can vary widely depending on several factors, including the type of food, the restaurant's location, and the level of formality or luxury. So, let's dive into the details!

senegal tour expenses

Food prices in Senegal can range from affordable to extravagant. Whether you're craving street food or fast food, looking for a casual dining experience at a local restaurant, or seeking the finer dining options at mid-range or high-end establishments, there's something for every budget.

Here's a breakdown of the general price ranges you can expect in US dollars per meal:

  • Street food or fast food: $1 - $5
  • Casual dining or local restaurants: $5 - $15
  • Mid-range restaurants: $15 - $30
  • High-end or luxury restaurants: $30 and above

While dining out is a popular choice for many travelers, it's worth mentioning that there are other affordable options for food in Senegal.
