Your Ultimate Guide to Planning A Trip to Dodger Stadium

The most important thing you probably need to know is how to actually get to Dodger Stadium at 1000 Vin Scully Ave. Yes, you can punch the location into your maps on your phone, and it will get you there, but it can be a little imperfect as there are multiple entrances all around the ballpark. An important tip to keep in mind is that Gate A is by far the worst way to enter the stadium. 

If you have the choice on your map application (example: Google Maps lets you choose which gate you want to navigate to), select a gate closest to where your seats are for the game you are attending or choose the gate that’s closest to where you’re driving from.

Here’s a high level look at the best ways to enter the ballpark from the greater Los Angeles area.

From the West: Gate C (off Academy Road) and Gate B (off Scott Ave.) are your best options. From the North: Gate D (off Academy Road) and Gate C (off Academy Road) are your best options. Gate E (off the 110 freeway) is also an option but traffic exiting from this gate can be troublesome. From the North East (specifically off the 110 freeway): Gate D off the Academy Rd exit is far and away the best entrance to get in and out of Dodger Stadium easily. You will have to navigate through a small neighborhood for a few blocks before merging onto the expanded Academy Rd and turning left onto Academy Gate D. You can also continue past Gate D and navigate around to Gate C if you’re on the Left Field side of the stadium. From the South East (specifically off the 110 freeway): Gate E is the closest to the freeway.  From the South: If you can avoid Gate A off Sunset Blvd, it’s your best bet. Passing Vin Scully Ave and turning onto Echo Park Ave will let you reach Scott Ave and the Gate B entrance. If all else fails or law enforcement has blocked off any roads, your only option may be Gate A.

Where Are The Cheapest Places to Park Around Dodger Stadium?

The Dodgers have Lot 13 and Lot 14 just outside the ballpark on Stadium Way. Parking is $5 on game days and requires an uphill walk into the stadium grounds through Gate A and Vin Scully Avenue. Free parking is also available (although not always) on N Boylston St and Lilac Terrace off Stadium Way. More information can also be found in this video and in our Parking Tips and Tricks Guide !

Public Transportation to Dodger Stadium

LA Metro also offers free bus rides to Dodger Stadium via the Dodger Stadium Express from Union Station and Harbor Gateway Transit Center. The bus from Union Stadium begins 90 minutes before game time and runs about every 10 minutes. 

The return service lines up behind the center field plaza and at the Top Deck and runs for 45 minutes after the final out or 20 minutes after postgame events.

Can You Tailgate at Dodger Stadium?

The short answer is no. The consumption of alcohol in the parking lot is strictly prohibited. One option would be to stop off at any one of the great local bars and restaurants in the area. For more information, check out our Guide for our Favorite Local Bars !

Can You Bring Outside Food and Water into Dodger Stadium?

Yes you can. But, all food and water must be stored in a clear bag not exceeding 12” x 12” x 6”. Water bottles (plastic only) must have their factory seal untampered with.

Can I Bring My Purse or Backpack into Dodger Stadium?

No. Purses, bags, and backpacks are no longer permitted. Only clear plastic bags (not exceeding 12” x 12” x 6”) are allowed. Also, diaper bags and small clutches no bigger than 5” x 8” x 2” are allowed. All bags are subject to search.

Are There Any Prohibited Items I Shouldn’t Bring to Dodger Stadium?

Guns, knives, weapons, illegal drugs and other materials deemed hazardous or dangerous by Dodger personnel are prohibited. Dodger Stadium is also a smoke free environment and vape devices are prohibited.

Payments Accepted at Dodger Stadium

Dodger Stadium is a fully cashless facility. As of the 2023 season, there are five Cash-to-Card kiosks available on the stadium concourses. The kiosks convert cash to prepaid debit cards which can be used anywhere inside and outside of Dodger Stadium. Note: Kiosks only accept US currency. Up to $500 can be loaded on a card.

ADA and Handicapped / Disabled Access

Handicapped / disabled parking is available in Lots B, D, F, G, K, L, N, and P. Disabled fans will valid state-issued disabled parking permit or license plate to parking attendants for access to appropriate spaces. The Dodgers offer a limited ADA shuttle service. 

After parking, call the Dodger Hotline at 323-224-2611 to hail a shuttle. Don’t forget which lot you’re in!

Can I Take a Tour of Dodger Stadium?

Dodger Stadium does offer tours all year round. One way to get yourself the most familiar for a trip to and day at Dodger Stadium is to tour the third oldest ballpark in baseball! These 90 minute tours start at 10 AM local time with the last tour of the day beginning at 1 PM on game days and 3 PM on non game days. 

On the tours, you may see the trophy gallery including the World Series trophies, game memorabilia, the Vin Scully Press Box and much more. Plus you will be able to spend time on the infield dirt and in the dugout, which is a great photo opportunity.

And there are the most important things you need to know to plan your trip to the ballgame. Top-notch tour. During the standard tour, you get to see the Press Box, and Awards Display, and get to go down to the Dugout and walk on the field. Not every stadium lets you onto the field. At $30 for an adult, it's worth every penny. You also would get a discount in the team store after taking the tour should you want any Dodger's Merchandise.

I took my son to the Dodger Stadium tour for a gift for his 30th birthday. We had an absolutely amazing time! The tour guides were informative & fun and being able to visit Dodger stadium in such an intimate way was absolutely fantastic. On top of that, the prices to do the tours were very reasonable. I cannot recommend doing it enough!

Absolute must do - especially if a Dodger or baseball fan! We were visiting LA for the day as two sports fans and could only get stadium tickets for the Dodgers (looked at football and hockey stadium/ arena too). We are both passive baseball fans - ie love to attend and drink at games, but know very little facts. We absolutely loved the tour and cannot recommend enough. Our guide James was so passionate and you couldn't help but be energized by his knowledge and the history of the stadium. It is truly massive!! We got to walk onto the field which was really sweet. The tour was around 90 min with some time on the back to look into the gift shop or hang around and ask questions. Definitely recommend. Super family friendly activity.

I have been fortunate enough to share in season tickets for over 25 years. I have sat in dugout club seats, been to the press box, and seen a lot of various areas. But, the tour gave me so much more! Our guide, Cary, was off the charts. His knowledge was so far reaching. He expanded our knowledge of the history way beyond what we already knew. I'd do it again! Being in the dugout was the highlight for me. Thank you, Cary, for sharing all of your knowledge.

My family and I went on the dodgers tour and got to see all the dodgers where they have the games there. What a good great team, we like them so much. The dodgers, baseball team, likes baseball so much that they play it a lot as a profession for money. The dodgers places didn't stink so bad like you would think (they're not the padres LOL). We liked it and it was nice and is nice if we want to go back there some other day when the weather is nice.

This a definite 5 star review. Whether you are a Dodger fan,baseball fan,or not a fan at all. This is a must to do in LA. What a great tour of this landmark stadium 3rd oldest in the majors. 60 years! The clubhouse tour is the way to go. You have more access of the stadium. The big highlight is going into the players locker room. Lot of history here and the tour guide is who makes the tour. His wealth of knowledge and stories behind this stadium is unbelievable. Plan to take lots of pictures except when you go into the locker room. You get to hang out in the dugout and get close and personal with the well manicured field. Just can't step on the grass. So run don't walk to this tour if you get a chance.

Being a lifelong Dodgers fan and a southern California resident all my life I can't believe I waited until the first part of March of 2020 to go on this tour. I bought it as a birthday present for myself and took my nephew and my two sons with me and we really enjoyed it. I bought the tickets online for around $22 each...the list price is $20 but after fees it comes out to about $22 which I thought was a good price for what you get. We went on a weekday in the hopes that the group would be smaller and it was...maybe 7 or 8 other people. Our guide was great and it was great seeing so many different parts of the stadium including the press box, trophy room, dugout, etc... After, or before, your tour you can visit the gift shop for all kinds of Dodgers memorablia/clothing. I purchased a few items and then we made our way down to the box office and I bought tickets to a game with a bobblehead giveaway with no extra service/convenience charges...unfortunately because of COVID that game never happened but the refund process wasn't too bad. If you are a baseball fan or better yet a Dodgers fan, you have to take this tour. You know what, even if you aren't that much of a fan this is still something different to do and I could see non-fans enjoying the experience too!

5 days before our tour we caught the nasty virus that required us to isolate. I left several voice-mail messages and sent numerous emails requesting to reschedule the tour date and not once did I ever receive a reply. We bought a total of 12 tickets! Well over $200 worth! And I have yet to hear back.

Entertaining and informative but a bit too short. Wrigley let's you into the locker rooms while the Dodger Stadium tour does not.

The stadium is located in Los Angeles, California. The exact address is 1000 Vin Scully Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

When Was the Stadium Built?

The stadium opened in 1962 and was constructed in less than three years, costing about $23 million dollars, or $224 million dollars in 2023.

It’s currently the oldest ballpark in MLB west of the Mississippi River, the third-oldest overall, after Fenway Park in Boston constructed in 1912, and Wrigley Field in Chicago constructed in 1914.

What Is the Seating Capacity?

This stadium is the largest baseball stadium in the world by seating capacity, reaching 56,000 seats, but their record attendance was 57,099 during Dodgers home opener in April 2009.

Premium Seating and Suites

Like many stadiums, the Dodgers have premium seating available for those that want to watch the game in a bit of luxury. There are several options from the Yaamava’ Dugout Club to the Champions Lounge. Read more to learn about what perks and amenities you can get.

• Yaamava’ Dugout Club includes exclusive access to private club space with multiple bars and complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages. This is available only for a full or half season only, which makes it quite the purchase, but there are several benefits that hard-core fans might want to consider.
• Baseline Club gives you access to everything that was mentioned above, and is again only available for a full or half season. This option is bit less expensive, but still pricey.
• Bank of America Suite Level allows you to have a private space for groups for a spacious indoor seating along with an outdoor seating deck overlooking the field. You get access to members only Stadium Club and have dedicated staff to help you. You can get either an individual rental for around $8,000, or packages that go from 3 games to 20 games in varying price ranges.
• The Champions Lounge is the largest private event space in the stadium that features a private bar, spacious indoor and outdoor seating, and gives you complimentary food and drinks, a dedicated staff, club access and a bartender. There are two lounges to choose from. The first is around $7,000 while the other is around $8,000, but you can also grab both for around $14,000. Granted, these prices vary depending on party size.

What Time Does Dodger Stadium Open? 

They open at 9 a.m. The gates to parking will open 2.5 hours before game time.

If you are a Dodger member, you can enter 3 hours before game time. If you get there early enough, you will be able to watch the batting practice the players do before the game.

How Old Is Dodger Stadium? 

The Dodger Stadium was built on April 10, 1962, and is 60 years old.

How Much Is Parking at Dodger Stadium? 

General parking is purchased in advance and costs $25. It will be $30 if you buy available parking on game day. Lots B, D, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, and P are $40 if you purchase in advance.

Alternative Transportation

Driving in traffic can be frustrating, so if you’re looking for another way to get to the stadium, check out the Metro Line. The L Line (Gold) metro rail stop at the intersection of Alameda Street and College Street is 3/4-mile walk to the stadium.

Renting the entire field can start at $25,000. It would be a Dodger fan’s dream to be able to rent the whole stadium out. 

Where Is the Sunset at Dodger Stadium? 

The sun sets behind third base on the stadium’s south side, keeping most of the seats on that side in the shade. 

Can You Bring Food into Dodger Stadium? 

You can bring food from the outside as long as it is in a clear bag smaller than 12″ x12″ x6” that is not in glass bottles, cans, coolers, or thermoses. 

What Can You Bring to Dodger Stadium? 

You can only bring diaper bags, clear bags smaller than 12″ x12″ x6″, and non-clear wristlets or clutches that are no larger than 5″x8″x2″ and will be subject to search.

My Blue Heaven

Introduction.

The Guide has the following to say about going to a game at Dodger Stadium:

You would never think that this ballpark is the third-oldest in the Major Leagues. Admittedly, the addition of the front door was a welcome and needed development. They say heaven is blue on earth.

This entry of the Guide is geared toward Dodger fans who do not live in Los Angeles and do not have the opportunity to go to Dodger Stadium on a regular basis. Most of the regulars of this website will not need this entry to the Guide, because they have their own routines, preferred seats, and rituals for enjoying a game at Dodger Stadium. This Guide does not dispute any of that and encourages folks to keep doing what they are doing, provided that no violence and/or hooliganism is involved.

But for those of us who like going to Dodger Stadium but happen to live in the wrong part of California, this Guide entry is for you. Or maybe you’re that unicorn of a Dodger fan who has never been to Dodger Stadium - I shall help where I can. Generally, even if Dodger Stadium was not the home of our team, going to a game at Dodger Stadium would still rank as a top-five experience in the Major Leagues. I have been to Dodger Stadium multiple times, the following Guide entry is the sum total of what I have learned about making the most of going to games at this venerable ballpark.

The Five Questions of the Guide

Obviously. I cannot reconcile never going to Dodger Stadium and being a Dodger fan unless you were from Brooklyn.

Iconic is the word that comes to mind when I think about my adventures at Dodger Stadium. The views, the food, and the atmosphere are the strengths of Dodger Stadium. Once you are at Dodger Stadium, you are likely to have a lovely time, regardless of who the Dodgers are playing, based on the atmosphere and ambiance of the ballpark. If you have never been to Dodger Stadium: you would be well served to visit any Fan Service Station for a complimentary “1st DODGER GAME” button and if you email [email protected] with the date of your trip and your name, you will be emailed a First Visit Certificate.

The experience is not perfect, but if you like baseball, Dodger Stadium needs to be on your bucket list. Now getting to and from the ballpark is iconic in a bad way - that experience is generally terrible requiring either a tolerance for sitting in traffic or the wherewithal to bring a book to read while Dodger Stadium empties out. I have also previously discussed elements of the Dodgers fanbase that should be excised .

But if you follow the Moscow Rules or if you act like a decent human being, the lingering hooliganism problem should not be an issue for you. Also, ticket prices are typically going to be as expensive as you are likely to see in the Major Leagues, outside of the playoffs, especially if you want to sit close to the action.

If able, taking a tour at Dodger Stadium is a wonderful addition to a visit to Dodger Stadium, as you will likely see parts of the park you otherwise would not. For the first-time visitor, one can go to Guest Services and collect a First Game Certificate and button. If you miss out on the certificate at the ballpark, you can request it online later, but you will miss out on the button.

2. How should I get there?

If you are in California, then you have the option to drive to Dodger Stadium. Granted from Central California, that drive will take in excess of five hours (one way), so it is theoretically possible to drive from Fresno (or thereabouts) to Dodger Stadium and back in a single day. That timeframe is the itinerary of a younger person and I certainly would not replicate that today.

Flying to Los Angeles is a viable option, but you will likely need a rental car if you want to traverse the vast sprawl that is Los Angeles. Using rideshare will get expensive quickly due to the distances involved. Using public transit is cumbersome from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), but an option to get to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. Using rideshare from Union Station is often cheaper and faster than attempting to do some from LAX. As for getting to the game itself, you have three options, all of which are degrees of bad.

• You could drive yourself and park at the ballpark. This choice is always an option, but the traffic to and from Dodger Stadium is infamously terrible. Plus, unless you leave early or arrive late, in which case you are doing something wrong, you are likely going to be sitting in a sea of traffic both coming and going. Plus, you will be paying for parking in both money and sanity.
• You could rideshare to Dodger Stadium. This option is marginally better than driving yourself, but the designated rideshare lot leaves you a bit of a walk to reach the stadium. Moreover, finding your way back to the rideshare lot to leave is much more difficult due to the traffic, being turned around, and the inevitable “surge pricing” that you will likely have to endure.
• You could take the Dodger Stadium Express. We have covered this service before on this website. You would have to find a way to Union Station, either on foot by staying in Little Tokyo or by parking your car at Union Station, which you will have to pay for but at last check, it is less than Dodger Stadium ($8 vs. $25), then take the Express.

The Express will drop you off closer than the Rideshare lot, but at last check, it will not be in front of the stadium. To return, you will just have to catch the Express at Centerfield. Make sure you catch the return bus to Union Station instead of South Bay, otherwise, you will be nowhere near Union Station.

3. Where should I stay?

Honestly, finding a place to stay for going to games at Dodger Stadium is the most troublesome part of the whole experience. If money is no object, then most hotels in downtown Los Angeles will work, but be mindful that you will be paying a premium. As shown above, the closest option is a Super 8 motel in the working-class neighborhood near Dodger Stadium. Under no circumstances would I recommend walking the distance between the Super 8 and Dodger Stadium because of the traffic and the actual distance involved.

Now, if you forego a vehicle and focus on using Dodger Stadium Express and rideshare, I would recommend staying in Little Tokyo and then going by foot to Union Station to catch the Dodger Stadium Express.

However, I would not recommend walking back from Union Station to Little Tokyo at night due to the presence of multiple homeless encampments that were on the route between Union Station and Little Tokyo.

During the day, I have never had an issue getting to Union Station, but I have seen extensive police activity in the area during the evening. So I would order a rideshare to get back to Little Tokyo. I have stayed at the Hotel Miyako in the past, as there are plenty of food options nearby and you are close enough to Union Station to go back and forth to Dodger Stadium freely. As I recall there is no included parking for a rental car at Hotel Miyako.

The biggest issue with the Hotel Miyako option, apart from the previously identified ones, is the cost as sometimes the nightly rate is quite pricey. In September 2021, I stayed at the Hollywood Inn Express South. It was fine...apart from the conditions of the room. You get what you pay for.

I used this place for a few days as I took rideshare to and from Union Station, taking advantage of the Dodger Stadium Express to get to and from games. Ultimately, in my view, unlike Pittsburgh and St. Louis, there is no optimal option for a place to stay if you go to Los Angeles to go to a game at Dodger Stadium.

This analysis will change if the Dodgers do develop their parking lots to include commercial buildings, including a hotel, which is outside the scope of this travelogue series.

4. Where should I sit?

As I alluded to earlier, going to a Dodger game is an expensive affair. There are deals from time to time, but generally, there will be a lower range ($20 to 40) but you will be sitting in the literal rafters and there will be an upper range typically equalling a rent payment for most ($1250).

There is the school of thought of sitting in the Loge section, as many True Blue LA commenters, will attest to, but that advice is fairly obvious and, as such, is omitted from the Guide.

Now there are steps between these poles, but let me be clear: If you want a decent seat at Dodger Stadium, there’s always the secondary market, but realize you are not going to be paying Pittsburgh prices or even Wrigley prices. And this statement is not condoning the pricing structure, just look at the intolerable situations occurring in Cincinnati and Oakland: raising prices without fielding a competitive team.

Oddly enough, if you were solely interested in a decent view at Dodger Stadium, the best time to have gone was the period of socially distanced games in the first half of last year. I was able to sit in seats that were normally $800 for 1/8th of the cost, which was pretty neat. But socially distanced baseball is not true baseball.

I would eat before going to the ballpark. If you have the capacity and the time and for some reason, you have never gone - go to The Apple Pan . It’s practically in Santa Monica and nowhere near Dodger Stadium. It does not matter - it is that good.

Get a Hickory burger and a slice of Cherry Cream or Apple Pie. If you have someone with you, get fries, otherwise, you are going to be drowning in potatoes. There are worse ways to go, but it seems like a sin to waste thick-cut, steak fries.

If you want to grab something a little closer to the ballpark, you have options. The pandemic has been catastrophic to the restaurant industry so many places that had been previously recommended are now gone . Katsu Sando is still around though and I remember eating to contentment while respecting my wallet.

As for the food at Dodger Stadium, get a Dodger Dog - the best hot dog in the Major Leagues. Get the original in the blue wrapper, which is pork. Now a hot dog is distinct from a bratwurst before anyone from Milwaukee complains.

Everything else is fine...just overly priced. I would not turn down a Michelada either, especially if I spring for fancy seats but I will get into that in a bit. Although recently, the stadium ranked poorly for concessions league-wide.

I will be presenting seat recommendations a little differently than in other entries of the Guide. If you can find a bargain that is not in the rafters, take it. Otherwise, regardless of where you sit, unless you are by hooligans, you should have a great time. Instead, I am going to recommend that you take a tour of Dodger Stadium in addition to whatever game you go to. Advice such as to sit in the Loge section, to sit behind home plate, etc. are not generally unhelpful, but those locations are always an option.

Here are my recommendations for Dodger Stadium.

• Taking a Tour

The value of a tour at Dodger Stadium ( and there are multiple tours , depending on whether you go on the regular tour (and you may see the Dodgers’ many, many awards), or the PreGame tour (and you may see batting practice), or the Clubhouse Tour (and you may visit the bullpen, weight room, batting cage, and team clubhouse), is twofold.

First, you get to enjoy Dodger Stadium when it is empty without the hustle and bustle of a capacity crowd, so you can soak in the actual beauty of the park. Secondly, the above photo is not possible during an actual game, without going to jail.

I took the regular Tour back in September 2021, and I was blown away by how thorough it was and how much of the park I saw, and the fact that I got to pose with the 2020 trophy. Based on what I know, if you want to be a completionist, you only need to do each tour once and these are separate tickets from actual game tickets.

Moreover, these tickets often sell out quickly, so I would plan and purchase them in advance. The last bit of advice apart from starting and stopping at the Top Deck, by the team store, is that you really should drive yourself as most rideshare drivers are confused by the fact they get to drive so far into the stadium parking lot. And it is quite surreal to navigate the Dodger Stadium parking lot when it is virtually empty.

• The Reserve Level

The seating here, once you actually get seated is delightful. For the view you get, the prices are normally quite reasonable (as I recall $50-70 depending on where; the higher up you go, usually the cheaper it is. However, for the playoffs - except to pay a mint for any seat at Dodger Stadium).

There are two items of note worth sharing as a warning. First, if you have big feet or suffer from vertigo, navigating the stairs in the section will be a challenge, especially if you are carrying something. The best advice I have is to eat before you sit. Second, as you can see from the photo, there’s netting. This netting is not solid, so stuff can and does fall from the upper deck to the folks below. If there was a solid grate there, I would feel far more secure if I was sitting in Row 1 of the section.

• The Field Level

If I were randomly going to see anywhere in Dodger Stadium, it would be in the vicinity of this perspective of the photo. You will likely pay about one hundred dollars for a seat here, but I have found you will be close enough to everything you would need during the game.

At worst, you can get something to eat from the Centerfield Pavilion, eat near there, and then return to your seat. As an additional bonus, the closest I have come to a foul ball was sitting in this section. Granted, it landed nowhere near me, but it was in the vicinity so I had to pay attention to my surroundings, which is solid advice whenever you are at a ballpark.

• The Home Run Seats

These seats are easily the most expensive appearing in this entry of the Guide, usually costing about $250/seat. Admittedly, it’s a gimmick - look how far away home plate is in the picture. There is a bit of a fishbowl effect, but you are approximately 390 feet away. Now, if you are lucky/unlucky a home run will come your way , especially if you are in Row 1. Seating here is extremely limited so you will need to plan to sit here.

Food and drink (not including alcohol) are included with your ticket, so the only way to make the seat economically palatable is to exploit the heck out of the complimentary food by way of fasting for the day up to the game and then eating entirely at Dodger Stadium. It is ballpark food, so not exactly healthy but in moderation, you should be fine.

The other main feature of the Home Run Seats is the proximity to the AR Dugout where you can take virtual photos and videos in an approximation of the Dodger dugout, but I would do that before the game.

5. After your trip, is it worth going back?

After my many visits to Dodger Stadium, here is my rather obvious rating:

• Hey, that was fun! This trip needs to be a yearly event, if possible!

Oddly enough, I would not get Season Tickets if I was able to for Dodger Stadium. I learned something important the hard way when I first moved to San Francisco: something special that occurs over and over merely becomes mundane. I went to every Dodgers/Giants game (with one exception in 2018), and by the end, I honestly felt like I was working, as I was going by myself for almost all of them.

Dodger Stadium is a gem and it demands your money and your patience as you try to get to and from the stadium, but if you can rise to the logistical and monetary challenges, you can truly revel in Our Blue Heaven as we continue to cheer on the Dodgers for years to come.

Emotional Elton John bids America farewell from Dodger Stadium: 'Be kind to each other'

LOS ANGELES – The sun has gone down on Elton John's  final North American show in the place where it all began: Dodger Stadium .

"Tonight is a very special night, a very emotional night for me," said John, wearing a bedazzled jacket with tails and sunglasses, after playing "Philadelphia Freedom" on a grand piano. "It's been a long journey."

John, 75, closed out his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour  in North America on Sunday, a goodbye made even more poignant since Dodger Stadium was the famed setting for John's 1975 breakout stadium concerts. 

More than 47 years ago, John's two electrifying, sequin-outfit-filled concerts at the historic baseball stadium affirmed the rising star's supernova status.

"Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium" was  livestreamed on Disney+ .

"We are making history tonight, the first-ever global stream on Disney+," John said. "And hello Dodger Stadium!"

Still recovering from a hip injury that forced the tour's postponement in September 2021, John did not move across the stage with ease, much less jump atop his piano as he did in 1975.

But his piano-pounding numbers haven't lost a step as he showed with an extended riff at the end of "Levon." After finishing the song, John slumped over the piano in (possibly) exaggerated exhaustion, only to jump back to his feet to urge more applause. 

The departing superstar had help from musical guests. Brandi Carlile  sang the George Michael role alongside John for "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." Holding a gold microphone, Carlile never lost her giddy expression. British singer Kiki Dee, joined John to sing their classic duet " Don't Go Breaking My Heart ," nearly five decades after the two performed the same number.

"We decide to reenact that incredible moment," John said.

Dua Lipa and John sang their hit remix "Cold Heart" (the same night the song won an American Music Award for best collaboration).

A cadre of Hollywood stars attended, some walking a pre-concert red carpet, including JoJo Siwa (wearing a "Rocketman" devil suit),   Heidi Klum , Angela Bassett, Courtney B. Vance , Kirsten Dunst, John Stamos , Connie Britton and "Top Gun: Maverick" star Miles Teller. Jude Law, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Neil Patrick Harris were in the audience.

Britney Spears , who recently collaborated with John on the single "Hold Me Closer," did not make an appearance.

For his encore, John returned to the stage in an outfit that harked back to his classic sparkling (and snug) 1975 Dodgers baseball uniform. The 2022 version was a full silver-shimmering Dodgers robe with the number "1" on the back. Bob Mackie recreated the classic blue baseball cap to finish the throwback look.

John brought his songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, on stage.

"If it wasn't for him I would not be standing here," he said, before calling for his family to join him.

"I want to spend time with my family; I'll be 76 by the time I stop touring next year," said John, as his partner, David Furnish, brought out their sons, Zachary, 11, and Elijah, 9. "I want to bring them out here to show you exactly why I'm retiring."

The superstar, whose career was originally propelled by Los Angeles crowds, thanked the local audience for the pivotal support. 

"You made me. Without America, I wouldn't be here," he said. "Thank you for all the years of love and generosity. I wish you health and love and prosperity."

John ended the show with his classic "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." At the song's end, he discarded his silver robe to reveal a tracksuit and stepped onto a lift that raised him up the stage. An animated John was shown on stage screens walking onto a heavenly Yellow Brick Road.

"Be kind to each other," John added. "And farewell."

Adoptable ‘Dodger dogs’ get tour of Dodger Stadium

Two adoptable dogs named after Los Angeles’ beloved baseball team were given the VIP treatment earlier this month when they went on an exclusive tour of Dodger Stadium.

The dogs, Dodger and Dodger Jr., are foster pets currently available for adoption through the Ventura County nonprofit Canine Adoption and Rescue League, or CARL.

Dodger is a senior chihuahua who has overcome several health challenges, the organization said. Dodger Jr., or Dodger Dog, is a 4-year-old pitbull that was recently rescued and has experienced its own set of health issues.

The two dogs and six volunteers from the animal welfare organization were invited by the Dodgers front office to spend an hour before first pitch “wandering the hallowed halls and sacred spaces above and on the field” at Dodger Stadium.

The dogs were given Dodgers jerseys and got to meet stadium employees and other visitors touring the ballpark grounds.

“Both doggies were so good, attentive and taking in all their surroundings and smells,” said Veronica Sanchez, a CARL volunteer and the 15-year-old chihuahua’s current foster.

While a fun experience for the dogs and their handlers and foster owners, the visit to Dodger Stadium served another purpose: finding the dogs their permanent homes.

Both Dodger dogs were abandoned by their owners earlier this year and were emaciated when they came to the animal rescue volunteers. They are currently being fostered in homes sponsored by CARL.

Sanchez says their stories are “a testament to the resilience of animals … and the transformative power of love and care that rescue organizations provide.”

Volunteers hope that the visit to Dodger Stadium will put the two adoptable dogs in the spotlight and help them find new homes, while also raising awareness about the important role of animal rescuers and volunteers.

Shakira to headline Besame Mucho Festival 2024 at Dodger Stadium

Shakira will be headlining the Besame Mucho Festival , taking place at Dodger Stadium on Dec. 21.

The single-day event, now in its third year, focuses on Latin music, booking acts from a variety of genres, from Latin rock and pop to musica Mexicana and Tejano. Enrique Iglesias, Los Tigres del Norte and Banda MS have also been announced as headliners.

Besame Mucho will be Shakira’s first official festival as a headliner after a whirlwind year and a half that saw her release “Bzrp Music Sessions #53,” a diss track with Argentine producer Bizarrap that took aim at former partner Gerard Piqué. In that time, the Colombian pop star received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, charted twice on the Billboard Top 10 and released “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” her 12th studio album that featured collaborations with the likes of Cardi B, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera.

Her appearance at Besame Mucho will mark the last stop on her 2024 Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, which she announced in April during a surprise appearance at Bizarrap’s Coachella set.

Pitbull, Ivy Queen, Paulina Rubio, Juanes, Belanova, Carlos Vives, Elvis Crespo and Los Tucanes de Tijuana are also among the jam-packed bill.

Last year, the L.A.-based festival expanded to Austin, Texas.

Tickets for the festival will go on sale May 24.

You don't want to park at the rail station in Glendale because you wouldn't have a train back to the station after the game.

We’re staying at the Chariot Inn. I had assumed going down to union station would be too far in the opposite direction, but it might be worth it with the free shuttle. Thank you!

I think it is not.

That is not an area I would want to be in, late at night, HOPING to get an Uber.

I don’t see any danger in catching a rideshare on Sunset & Vin Scully near the Super 8. There’s going to be thousands of people leaving the stadium and lots of traffic.

Getting an Uber or Lyft to the stadium is straightforward. They’ve done a good job for drop-offs at the stadium. It is the approach which is a mess.

You definitely don’t want to use the pick-up area at the stadium because of the traffic.

Sports | Alexander: Southern California sports fans sound off

Arte moreno gets his share of criticism, but so do jeanie buss and the guy who controls the volume of the dodger stadium speakers.

Maybe devoted Angel fans have gotten most of their rants out of the way in previous correspondence, or else some are reluctant to pile on in the early stages of what figures to be another season in the depths of the American League West.

The Angels and Moreno drew multiple mentions. But so did the Lakers, who have one championship in the last 14 seasons, are in the midst of another coaching search (subtitle: “What did LeBron Know and When Did He Know It?”) but still have a firm grip on the emotions of this market’s fan base.

And excessive stadium noise – which has become pervasive at all levels of sports, though it seems more incessant and more grating at Dodger Stadium – was also mentioned multiple times. The consensus? Turn down the speakers!

(I’m not sure all of the latter responses originated from the “get off my lawn” generation, either, although the din probably bothers us more. You can tell it’s bad when your overwhelmed Apple Watch just stops issuing loud environment warnings.)

I am surprised, though. I was expecting more responses. If you respond now, it’s too late to get your rant published (unless it’s a really, really good one).

Anyway, here are some of the public’s reactions, with comments edited for clarity:

“Arturo Moreno is far and away the worst,” wrote Andy J. Mariani of San Pedro, who described himself as an Angel fan since 1967. He cited Moreno’s “ability to hide and avoid conflict sneaking behind ‘no comment’ and putting shills and cronies like his president (John) Carpino out front when something must be said. … Oh, those days of a senile Cowboy with wife Jackie and Disney’s cheerleaders dancing on top of dugouts was bad, yet Angel fans now realize we never had it so good.”

Steve Keller of Mission Viejo defended Arte, calling him a “very good owner” and saying, “Arte has spent the money and the players have let him down.” He suggested General Manager Perry Minasian and the rest of the front office should bear responsibility. But it must be noted, as other respondents at other times have pointed out, that the Angels don’t have a president of baseball operations to supervise the general manager or be a buffer and talk Arte off the ledge (or out of pulling out his checkbook) when needed.

Keller defended Joe Maddon, who was fired early in the 2022 season. So did Blake Kidd, who made this observation: “Just love Arte telling us he wanted this year’s (manager) to have experience. Didn’t Joe Maddon have experience? Until Arte sells the team and we get rid of (chairman Dennis) Kuhl and Carpino, nothing will change.”

Jim Frear, who says his Angel fan bona fides date to 1961 and the franchise’s inception, wrote that Moreno “doesn’t get the concept that pitching and defense wins championships. He spends tons of money for hitters but zero on pitching. Please update me on the ’21 draft where Angels took a pitcher with every pick. Have they ‘coached’ anyone up to the majors?”

Matt Quint of Irvine was one of those who celebrated when Moreno said he was exploring a sale of the team two years ago, the elation of course being short-lived. “This man has (singlehandedly) destroyed an MLB franchise trying to play land games for real estate schemes,” he wrote. “Disgusting, dishonest, fraud, joke, need I go on? These are the terms I associate with this charlatan of an owner. ‘Hey look at me! I lowered beer prices, please don’t look at how I decimated our farm system and wasted valuable payroll funds on washed up players at my behest.’”

Quint did have kudos for the Rams and owner Stan Kroenke. He’s one of many in this market who turned their backs when Georgia Frontiere moved the team to St. Louis in 1995 but returned to the fold when the Rams returned in 2016. “I am proud to be a Rams fan, not for just the play on the field, but for (how) our team is run day to day,” he wrote.

As for the Lakers, another of his favorite teams? “Oh, how the mighty have fallen,” he wrote. “I love Jeanie (Buss) & what she is trying to do, but she arguably has the least capital to work with of ALL the NBA owners, making us a poor franchise in a rich market. … I don’t know if Jeanie truly has it in her to do what is needed to bring this franchise back to greatness? I hope she proves me wrong.”

Carl and Lori Linnecke laid the blame for Lakers issues at the feet of VP of basketball operations Rob Pelinka and the rest of the front office, citing not only the Anthony Davis trade – “A.D. is a great player. But he does not always come to play” –  but also the deal that sent Ivica Zubac to the Clippers early in 2019. And then there’s this:

“LeBron James should stay out (of) making decisions about players. Maybe he should retire instead of talking about playing with his son Bronny. James was a great player. One of the greatest. His time has come and gone. They will never win a championship as long as he is on the team.”

Edward Sussman wrote that the Lakers should cut ties with James, saying that “he is a great player, but a coach killer” and that “the Lakers were a better team with Darvin Ham as their coach.” And he added a prediction: “The problem here is that the Lakers will draft Bronny and whoever becomes the coach of the Lakers will experience LeBron’s pressure to play him.”

Steve Benoff of Beaumont responded to the suggestions – before we realized it was prohibited – that James should be player-coach: “LeBron would never accept the role of coach, because, true to form, in a year he’d have to fire himself.”

As for the other apparent pressing issue among those fans who responded: Try finding a sports venue where you don’t have to deal with ear-splitting music, screamers at the public address mic and recorded pleas for even more noise.

“Finally someone who knows baseball has mentioned the excruciating noise level at Dodger Stadium,” wrote Tom Kaczmarek of Los Alamitos. “It hits you from the moment you pass through security and only ends when you leave. There was a time when baseball at the ballpark was a time to catch up with family or friends … (or to) discuss baseball statistics and strategies. Apparently, those days have been replaced by non-stop forced hilarity.”

Mike Reuben of Anaheim Hills wrote that the speakers “are so damn loud that I had to give up my Ducks tickets, and even the Angels seats are exposed to excessive noise.”

So is there a point when lost business from potential fans turned off by the noise assault overrides the idea of the high-energy environment the marketing folks seem to crave?

Judy Kent described her experience at Dodger Stadium: “I had the good fortune to be invited to one of the BofA suites a few weeks ago and was shocked at the noise pollution (haven’t been to the stadium in a few years). It was almost impossible to have a conversation with anyone when sitting in the outdoor seats and not much better when we’d go back inside the suite!

“Where do I send my complaint?”

The information guide on the Dodgers’ website lists a [email protected] email address, and I’d imagine – or would at least hope – that other teams have similar ways to register a complaint or a suggestion.

But they may not always listen. I will.
