2024 Travelers Championship odds: Scottie Scheffler favored at +370

It's time to jump into the 2024 Travelers Championship odds   as TPC River Highlands hosts the next Signature Event on the PGA Tour.

Keegan Bradley will look to defend his Travelers Championship title after his victory last year and is priced at 45-1 odds to win this week in Cromwell, Connecticut against a field of 72 golfers in this no-cut event.

Scottie Scheffler is coming off of a disappointing week at the U.S. Open but is nonetheless the outright betting favorite once again this week  at +370 odds to win his sixth tournament of the year.

Find the complete 2024 Travelers Championship Odds   below as of Monday morning.

2024 Travelers Championship Odds

Odds via bet365

Scottie Scheffler is once again the outright betting favorite at +370 to win the Travelers Championship for the first time in his career. The Texan has made four starts at TPC River Highlands — all over the last four years — and had his first top 10 here last year when he tied for fourth.

He finished four shots behind   Keegan Bradley , who won last year's Travelers Championship by three strokes. The New England native was overcome with emotion following his win this year and is +4500 to win his first tournament since then this week. Bradley lost in a playoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii earlier this season and also tied for a distant second at the Charles Schwab Challenge last month.

Rory McIlroy is looking to bounce back following his gut-wrenching defeat at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 over the weekend. The Northern Irishman has never won the Travelers Championship in five starts in Cromwell, but he has finished in the top 20 in all five of his appearances, including a career-best tie for seventh last year. He enters with the second-shortest outright odds at bet365 at +750 to win this week.

Xander Schauffele , the 2022 winner of the Travelers Championship, has the third-shortest outright odds to win for a second time at TPC River Highlands at +800. Schauffele tied for seventh this past weekend at Pinehurst No. 2 and now has 11 top-10 finishes this season on the PGA Tour. That is second behind only Scheffler's dozen top 10s, and no other golfer has more than six top-10 finishes this year.

Schauffele has four top-20 finishes in five starts in Cromwell, Connecticut, including a tie for 19th last year.

The other golfers in the field with outright odds of 25-1 or shorter at bet365 on Monday morning include:

  • Ludvig Aberg  (+1700)
  • Collin Morikawa   (+1700)
  • Viktor Hovland  (+2200)

Some other notables in the field this week and their outright odds include   Tommy Fleetwood  (+3500),   Justin Thomas  (+3800) and   Jordan Spieth  (+4500).

Travelers Championship Past Winners

Bradley, Schauffele, Harris English and Jordan Spieth are the past winners of the Travelers Championship in the field this week.

Moving Forward

U.S. Open 2024: How does Rory McIlroy get over Pinehurst? Here are five comeback stories that can give him hope

2157876311

Jared C. Tilton

It’s the obvious question in the wake of Rory McIlroy’s shocking short-range misses on the 70th and 72nd greens of the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst: Can the Northern Irishman ever recover from such a trauma? Is there a way back for a man who has now gone almost exactly a decade without winning at the highest level of a game in which he otherwise excels?

The good news is that it can be done. McIlroy is not the first player to have perpetrated what those of a cruel disposition instinctively label “a choke” and what the more understanding among us might term an “unexpected lapse.” Five men stand out. And all five retained sufficient nerve to at least contend again for major titles. So if history is to be our guide, hope remains for McIlroy.

186630085

Underwood Archives

Coming to the final hole of their 18-hole playoff for the 1947 U.S. Open at the St. Louis Country Club, Lew Worsham and Snead were tied. Worsham was 40 feet from the cup and on the fringe after his approach; Snead’s effort pulled up only 15 feet or so from the flag. After Worsham left his chip 29-inches away, Snead left his putt woefully short, which provoked a measurement to see who was to play next. Turned out it was Snead who, flustered, missed. Worsham then holed for the title, relegating Snead to the second of what would eventually be four runner-up spots in his national championship.

Famously, Snead never did win the U.S. Open. But subsequent to that shocking miss he won five majors and had 28 other top-10s (nine in the U.S. Open). So, outside of the tournament that must have driven him crazy, his ability to perform under pressure was, it would appear, largely unaffected.

DOUG SANDERS

R&A Championships

Perhaps only Jean Van de Velde and his triple-bogey finish to the 1999 Open Championship at Carnoustie has gained more golf notoriety than Sanders’ miss on the 72nd hole of the Old Course at St. Andrews 29 years before the Frenchman descended into farce via heavy rough and the Barry Burn.

Needing only to get down in three shots from maybe 75 yards short of the putting surface, Sanders failed to do so. His approach was thinned enough to send the ball roughly 35 feet past the flag. The first putt pulled up four-feet short and the second missed low, the always colorfully-clad Georgian misjudging the left-to-right break.

While he would never again come so close to winning a major title—“some days I go maybe 10 minutes without thinking about it,” he would joke—Sanders retained enough game to record top-10 finishes in each of the next two Opens.

HUBERT GREEN

87863197

Augusta National

Disturbed by a radio commentator, Green backed off the four-foot putt he needed to make if he was to force a playoff at the 1978 Masters with Gary Player. Second-time around though—as so often when a re-start is forced upon a golfer—Green never settled and missed.

Still, at only 31 and the reigning U.S. Open champion, the Alabama-native was in his prime as a player and had time to recover. Which he did. Although he was never again so close to a green jacket, Green’s career continued to be successful. Top-10s were recorded at each of the next two Masters, one more in the U.S. Open and a second in the Open Championship. More significantly, he won a second Grand Slam title at the 1985 PGA Championship. So, reassuringly for McIlroy, victory is still attainable in the wake of potentially career-ending devastation.

83125626

This wasn’t pretty. Twice. Only 10 feet from the flag on the final green in the final round of the 1987 PGA Championship at PGA National, Hoch three-putted to miss a playoff in which Larry Nelson defeated Lanny Wadkins. That was bad enough, but two years later, the North Carolinian, perpetrated the “feat” from which he is, sadly, perhaps best known.

No more than 20 feet below the cup on the 10th green at Augusta National, Hoch had two-putts to win on the first playoff hole against Nick Faldo and claim the 1989 Masters. But it wasn’t to be. Hoch made the classic error of rushing his first putt 2½ feet past. Then, clearly aiming too far left, he missed for a second time. Faldo would go on to claim the first of his three green jackets with a birdie on the next hole.

Still, for Hoch, always a consistent performer tee-to-green, his career in majors was far from over. After 1989, the North Carolinian played well enough to record as many as 13 top-10 finishes in golf’s four biggest events. Two of those, a T-7 and a T-5, came at Augusta.

DUSTIN JOHNSON

478041146

Andrew Redington

If one experience is to give McIlroy hope for the future, it is that of Johnson. Instead of holing a 12-footer for eagle on the 72nd green at Chambers Bay to win the 2015 U.S. Open, he crushingly three-putted to miss a playoff and lose by one shot to Jordan Spieth. Still, the big South Carolinian returned just 12 months later to claim his national title. Undoubtedly aided by a uniquely unperturbable temperament that allowed him to survive a rules-controversy in the final round, Johnson wonat the brutal Oakmont to erase from his mind the traumatic experience even he must have remembered happening a year before.

Just as encouraging for McIlroy will be the knowledge that Johnson has so far recorded 13 other top-10s in majors, the undoubted highlight his victory in the 2020 Masters.

One last thing. Back in 2011, McIlroy exploded on the back-nine of the final round at the Masters. That was a slower destruction of his chances of victory than a missed putt from short range on the 18th green. But here’s the thing. Two months later the Northern Irishman won the U.S. Open by eight shots. So, in a way, he’s been here before. Only the foolish would write him off completely.

Love the look and fit of this jacket. With the repel material I really wouldn’t describe this as a lightweight jacket but it feels very well made and high quality.

Bryson DeChambeau Is the King of Content

Kyle koster | 15 hours ago.

tour championship jacket

A few months ago, before the great 180 in the court of public opinion was complete, Bryson DeChambeau said that more and more junior golfers—and even some middle-aged men—were coming up to him to thank him for all his content and what it is he does online . There was appropriate eye-rolling at the time but this is a wild world and no one knows what the future is going to hold. Because over the weekend, at a perfect golf course in a perfect U.S. Open, the mad scientist who has meticulously experimented with his body, mechanics, equipment and YouTube metrics, emerged with his second major championship and unofficial title of Greatest Showman on Bermuda.

The King of Content looked at the world and defied them to say they weren't entertained.

It took a layup from a catcher's crouch and the best damn 55-yard bunker shot a person could ever wish to see on the 72nd hole of the tournament to win it. It also took the most crushing meltdown of Rory McIlroy's career as he let the hardware slip out of his grasp by missing both edges of the cup on No. 16 and No. 18 as his major drought marches onto a second decade.

This is as good as golf gets—perhaps the sport's best four days since Tiger Woods shocked everyone with his green jacket march in 2019. And the sport has never needed it more after two years of schisms, infighting and a general lack of superstars rising to the moment. It was striking and refreshing as the McIlroy-DeChambeau duel headed toward the clubhouse that the PGA Tour-LIV dynamic hardly came to mind even though each circuit's avatars were fighting over a single trophy.

Credit goes to the NBC broadcast, which capitalized on an impeccable script and meticulous set design to rebound from last year's widely panned U.S. Open effort. The commercial load was still heavy yet improved. And just like what's happening in the game at-large, the public has become more accepting in the last two years of the sheer economics at play. NBC needs to blunt the price tag that comes with having rights to an iconic property and it does feel like they're doing the best they can in addressing concerns while remaining cognizant of their own balance sheet.

A retooled talent pool alternated coverage between odd and even holes, which kept things relatively fresh and perhaps created the feeling action was moving at a greater pace. Perhaps the greatest compliment to give Dan Hicks-Brandel Chamblee and Mike Tirico–Brad Faxon is that, like a good umpire or referee, they never got in the way. Throw in a slight reduction in the human interest pieces and narrative essays during Sunday's final round and it made for a better experience.

Everyone involved realized something special and spectacular was happening and put the brilliant canvas in frame. The pictures told disparate stories of agony and ecstasy better than thousands of words. McIlroy watching from the scoring center as the last embers of hope drained from his body when DeChambeau's clinching putt found its target said it all.

They made Rory watch from the same room the Impractical Jokers monitor their bits. pic.twitter.com/zsoG8li9Ov — Kyle Koster (@KyleKoster) June 16, 2024

DeChambeau, however, having achieved immortality on the same green his idol Payne Stewart did 25 years ago, provided a reaction and homage for the ages. To the victors go the spoils, as does the microphone. The champion crushed it with Tirico, at times becoming emotional about his departed father and at others sounding like Bane in promising to give the trophy to The People.

If it had all ended there, if DeChambeau had hightailed it to the parking lot a la McIlroy and spun his wheels off to the afterparty, it would have been enough. Yet there was one final coda—a serendipitous and borderline unbelievable moment after sunset as the champion happened to wander into a live shot and create television magic. The type that feels like it was scripted but couldn't be.

Golf Channel's Johnson Wagner was in the same bunker where DeChambeau had sealed the deal, breaking down just how difficult the shot was during a live hit with Golf Central Live . Wagner, a skilled player in his own right, came nowhere close to Bryson's effort on his first attempt, blasting it way over the green. DeChambeau then appeared out of nowhere and ... you know what ... just watch.

What's left to say except an unironic and extremely impressed thank you. There's simply no one else that could have done this. An athlete at the top of his craft with a thorough understanding of the real and digital worlds, forcing even the cynics to crack a smile, like and subscribe.

2024 U.S. Open odds, field: Scottie Scheffler on top with Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele among favorites

Will the world no. 1 grab his second major and sixth win of the season at the u.s. open.

scottie-scheffler-2024-final-round-memorial.jpg

The two best players in the world were victorious at the first two major championships of the 2024 season. Scottie Scheffler rolled past a congested leaderboard Sunday at the Masters and into his second green jacket, while Xander Schauffele outlasted a star-studded leaderboard at Valhalla to enter golf immortality.

That begs the question then ahead of the 2024 U.S. Open: Will the year's third major belong to the third-best player?

Well, batting in that part of the lineup as of now is world No. 3 Rory McIlroy. The four-time major champion is approaching the 10-year anniversary of his last major triumph and looks to get off the schied as the U.S. Open returns to Pinehurst No. 2 for the first time in a decade. It was that summer McIlroy rattled off victories at The Open and the PGA Championship, but the 35-year-old has been shutout since.

McIlroy nearly knocked the door down in last year's U.S. Open but ultimately fell one stroke shy of Wyndham Clark. The reigning champion has experienced a turbulent year with a win at Pebble Beach and runner-up finishes at the Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational, but he has also been an early exit in both of the two first majors.

If the good version of Clark shows up at Pinehurst, he could threaten to become the first back-to-back champion since Brooks Koepka. A five-time major winner, Koepka looks to add a third U.S. Open trophy to his mantle and scoot his name up the list of all-time major winners.

Collin Morikawa seeks a third major championship of his own and a first U.S. Open. A win at Pinehurst would represent the third leg of the career grand slam and set up an opportunity to join golf's most exclusive club next spring at Augusta National. Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland round out the notable names near the top of the odds board who are likely to play a role in this week's championship.

The most notable U.S. Open odds can be found below, and be sure to check out a full slate of 2024 U.S. Open picks and expert predictions from CBS Sports. You can also dig deeper with a ranking of the U.S. Open field from 1-24 and our more narrow look at the nine golfers most likely to win at Pinehurst.

2024 U.S. Open odds, favorites

  • Scottie Scheffler: 11/4

It's Scottie's world, and everyone else is just living in it. Claiming the Memorial last week for his fifth victory of the season -- all in his last eight tournaments -- the world No. 1 has shortened below the 3-1 price tag we have been used to seeing him hold. Pick a statistical category, and he probably leads it. Pick an ideal course fit for him, and you probably settle on Pinehurst No. 2. Pick a player with not only the physical tools, but the mental stamina to endure a historic run like this and pick off another major along the way and you land on Scheffler.

  • Rory McIlroy: 10-1
  • Xander Schauffele: 12-1
  • Collin Morikawa: 16-1
  • Bryson DeChambeau: 18-1
  • Viktor Hovland: 18-1
  • Brooks Koepka: 22-1
  • Ludvig Åberg: 22-1
  • Jon Rahm: 25-1

After Scheffler, there are no other players in single digits and only eight south of 30-1. They include all the big-name contenders one would expect to give the world No. 1 chase. McIlroy's U.S. Open record has been stellar as of late with five straight top-10 finishes, and Schauffele boasts a similar résumé with seven top-15 finishes in as many appearances. Koepka has a pair of trophies to highlight this crowd, but it's his league mate, Rahm, who draws the most intrigue. Withdrawing from LIV Golf Houston last week, the 2021 champion arrives with some question marks around his status and his game as his name continues to drift down the odds board.

  • Cameron Smith: 35-1
  • Tommy Fleetwood: 35-1
  • Justin Thomas: 40-1
  • Patrick Cantlay: 45-1
  • Max Homa: 50-1
  • Matt Fitzpatrick: 55-1
  • Tyrrell Hatton: 55-1
  • Hideki Matsuyama: 55-1
  • Shane Lowry: 60-1
  • Tom Kim: 60-1
  • Jordan Spieth: 60-1
  • Tony Finau: 65-1
  • Wyndham Clark: 70-1
  • Sahith Theegala: 70-1
  • Min Woo Lee: 75-1
  • Corey Conners: 75-1
  • Will Zalatoris: 75-1
  • Sam Burns: 75-1

Speaking of question marks, this group of players is chock full of them. Smith just fired an 80 to close out LIV Golf Houston. Lowry posted an 85 at the Memorial. Spieth hasn't factored in a tournament since February. Clark missed the cut at the Masters, PGA Championship and last week's Memorial. And then there's Patrick Cantlay, who can't seem to find his game. If there is one name to circle, Matsuyama may be the one as he has the iron play and short game to make noise in this championship.

  • Keegan Bradley: 80-1
  • Jason Day: 90-1
  • Cameron Young: 90-1
  • Sepp Straka: 90-1
  • Dustin Johnson: 90-1
  • Byeong Hun An: 90-1
  • Russell Henley: 100-1
  • Denny McCarthy: 110-1
  • Dean Burmester: 110-1
  • Si Woo Kim: 110-1
  • Sungjae Im: 110-1
  • Justin Rose: 110-1

There are few names that jump off the page here with Straka drawing the most interest. He arrives at the U.S. Open fresh off back-to-back top-five finishes and with a world of confidence on his corner. The big Austrian has been in the mix before at the PGA Championship and The Open, but the U.S. Open has been a different story with two straight missed cuts. Pinehurst may be the perfect spot for him, and the same goes for Day. A top-five finisher at the 2014 U.S. Open, the former world No. 1 will need to take a stride with his approach play if he is to surprise, but it isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

  • Brian Harman: 150-1
  • Alex Noren: 150-1
  • Harris English: 170-1
  • Billy Horschel: 170-1
  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout: 170-1
  • Thomas Detry: 200-1
  • Rickie Fowler: 200-1
  • Adam Hadwin: 200-1
  • Ryan Fox: 200-1
  • Tom Hoge: 220-1
  • Kurt Kitayama: 220-1
  • Akshay Bhatia: 220-1
  • Erik van Rooyen: 250-1
  • Aaron Rai: 270-1
  • Stephan Jaeger: 270-1
