What's great is that Instagram has a feature for this. These are Instagram Stories Highlights. Unlike Stories, Stories Highlights have a permanent place on your Instagram profile!

The concept of Instagram Guides is that you can share Instagram posts with text. It's a great way to give your followers more information!

This is great because you can share information about the places you visited! For a travel influencer, that's perfect.

Creating Guides is a great way to make your Instagram page more interesting. It's fun for your consisting followers, as it's extra content.

But it's also a great way to grow your following. Those who have a look at your profile might follow you because of the Guides you wrote!

You can create Guides about many things. For example, you can create a Guide about pretty places in a certain city. But you can also create a Guide in which you give travel tips.

Thus, posting every day, every two days, or any other regular timing is a good idea.

Travel influencing is about embracing your niche and combining it with your unique style to welcome like-minded followers into your circle of exploration and storytelling.

2. Define your brand identity

We’ve all been here: You're scrolling through Instagram, lost in a sea of travel pics, when you come across a post that makes you stop and say, "Wow, I want to go there." or "This is the exact trip itinerary I’d use." It's not just the places these travel influencers visit; it's their vibe, their style — their brand. That’s right, there’s marketing involved, and it's likely the post was edited in a way that makes you feel like this Creator just “gets you.” In the world of travel influencing, your brand is everything.

Defining your brand identity isn’t just about designing a sleek logo or choosing the most clever hashtags. Those are important, but you've got to get deeper than that. Based on how you define your niche as a Traveler, develop your distinct, authentic brand and build a consistent online presence across your website, blog, and social channels. Express yourself with visuals, colors, filters, fonts, and a voice that cohesively reflects your brand identity and sets you apart. Show your followers the unique journey only you can offer, distinguishing yourself from countless other explorers.

Your brand tells your story without words — it’s what people remember when they close their eyes at night, dreaming about their next adventure. So ask yourself: “What do I stand for?” Maybe it’s sustainability in travel or showcasing local cultures untouched by tourism hype. Whatever it is — own it. And embody it. Because when folks come across your page, you want them nodding along, thinking, “Yes. That's exactly what I’ve been looking for.” Your brand identity resonates with them. And just like that — you’ve got a genuine connection.

The thing is, defining your unique selling proposition or "USP" (as business people call it) takes time. But believe us when we say — it can pay off big time down the road.

3. Create valuable content

So, you've carved out your niche in the vast world of travel influencing. But what next? Your audience is tuning in, but you have to keep them hooked. So, you need content that's not just good — it needs to be amazing. Think about it: What makes your followers smash that "like" button, leave a comment, and have them sharing or saving your content?

First off, understand this — your followers are keen on what's original and what's overplayed. They’ve seen the typical sunset shots and #hotdoglegs selfies. They crave something new that they haven't scrolled past a hundred times. What does that look like to you? Could it be the thrill of discovering secret spots in cities that feel like they've been fully explored? Maybe it's tips on how to safely experience a destination as a solo female traveler? Or perhaps something more lighthearted like where to find the cleanest bathrooms in Rome? Whatever it is, find your angle and stick with it — consistency is key.

  • Fresh: Dive into uncharted territories or lesser-known aspects of popular destinations.
  • Engaging: Start conversations around travel myths or underrated experiences.
  • Exciting: Share thrilling adventures or serene escapes that ignite the imagination.
  • Actionable: You're the expert who your followers look up to. Give them something to take away from your content, whether it's sharing travel influencer tips or destination-specific resources.

People are drawn to your distinct viewpoint because they crave experiencing the globe from your perspective. So ask yourself why they chose you among thousands of other Creators. Maybe it’s your knack for finding beauty in overlooked places or how you can turn any trip into an adventure worth telling. 

How you package and deliver your content is just as important as what you convey. To truly stand out, mix up your content types. 

  • Short-form videos: It's not easy to become a travel influencer without leveraging the mass appeal of share-worthy reels and TikToks. An inspiring 10-second time-lapse with trending audio or a comical take on what NOT to do can cast your social media reach on where it matters most.
  • Photography: An inspiring photo has universal appeal. But photos tell one part of the story. Master storytelling — visually and verbally — to weave tales so captivating that no one can scroll by without pausing.
  • Blogging: Consider this the foundation of your brand; the hub that connects everything you do. With a bit of SEO-savvy, your blog posts can be potent avenues for organic traffic.
  • Graphics: Chop up your best photos, captions, and travel discoveries to create eye-catching visuals that engage with users on Pinterest or add value to your website.
  • Newsletters: Personalized email content can include travel tips, updates on upcoming trips, exclusive content, and personal anecdotes that foster a closer connection with your followers.
  • E-books and guides: Share in-depth travel wisdom and tips in a long-form way with comprehensive travel guides or themed e-books that can be packaged in a downloadable format.
  • Collabs: Teaming up with other travel influencers or brands for cross-promotion or contributing content can help you reach new and wider audiences.

Remember: Keep exploring, keep engaging, and most importantly, keep surprising. Crafting valuable content that truly stands out is the key to success as a travel influencer — it's what brings their creations to life and sets them apart in a bustling digital world.

4. Photos speak 1,000 words

Remember the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words?" That overplayed cliché couldn't be more true when you're showcasing a destination as a travel influencer. 

To make your mark and stand out in a sea of Content Creators, developing your photography style is key, even if you're just using an iPhone. And snapping pretty pictures isn't enough. Leverage editing options to make sure your pics are polished and uniform.

  • Hone in your shooting skills: Practice makes perfect. Get comfortable with your camera settings — experiment with angles, lighting, and compositions to find what works best for capturing the essence of each place you visit.   • Edit like a pro: Consistency in editing gives your feed that cohesive look everyone loves. Use similar filters or presets across all photos to create your signature style. Lightroom is our go-to for a cohesive and aesthetic feed.

Stellar photography invites people into the frame of the moment you captured. It tells stories without uttering a single word, evoking emotions and planting seeds of wanderlust for those who lay eyes on it.

5. Captivate with memorable videos

Videos have a spellbinding ability to capture attention, mesmerize viewers, and extend your organic reach if viral-worthy. If done correctly, Instagram reels, YouTube videos, and TikToks are more than just content; they're your ticket to becoming a memorable (and relatable) travel influencer. But just like with your photos, video creation takes some finesse.

Telling a story through quick clips is an art and the secret sauce that makes followers stick around for more. And guess what? You don’t need to be the next Spielberg or have fancy equipment. Your smartphone and a keen eye for content are enough to make your reels ✨ shine.

In today’s fast-paced world, videos hold someone’s attention span longer than any other media format. They’re dynamic, engaging, and, if done right — unforgettable. But, again, depending on the video type, a “long attention span” might still be only a few seconds — typically under 15 seconds if we’re being exact.

  • 💡Creator Tip: Use your Instagram Insights to check how long people view your reels on average, once you get that number, strive to create more content around that length.
  • P.S. At first, everyone feels a little silly setting up a tripod and videoing themself in public — you’re not alone! But getting the shot is the name of the game in content creation, so tell those haters to kick rocks while you create something amazing.
  • Showcase destinations vividly: Bring destinations to life by capturing their essence in motion – from bustling cityscapes to serene sunsets and use them as great b-roll.
  • Tell stories that resonate: Share personal anecdotes or interesting facts about places you visit that make viewers feel connected with you and the journey.
  • Provide viewers with tips or fun facts. Some ideas: 10 not-so-touristy spots you can’t miss in Bali. How to navigate public transport in a bustling city like Tokyo. Showcase a day-in-the-life video from different destinations. Or create comparisons highlighting the differences between popular tourist spots and hidden gems in the same city.
  • Demonstrate authenticity: Spill your smoothie on your white shirt? Take a picture. Slip on a rock while visiting a waterfall? That is comedic GOLD. Post it. (if you need some inspo, check out this post from Trova Host @jeffreybinney that will make you cringe… in a good way 😂). Real-time reactions and unfiltered experiences add layers of authenticity that your followers love. After all, we’re all humans and sometimes, sh*t travel happens!
  • Utilize trends and trending audio: Look for trending indicators to discover popular audio that might expand your presence in people's feeds. Instagram and TikTok both have trending audio recommendations available for Creator accounts right in-app to make it easy. Format trends, like stitches, video memes, and perpetually evolving TikTok trends can help lift your algorithm appeal. But what was trending last week might be old news today, so stay at the forefront and be timely.
  • Hone in on your editing tools: Ever spend 30 minutes creating a reel, and the Instagram app glitches out and loses everything? Yep, us too. Every. Damn. Time.  Elevate your editing game (and save yourself from rage) by using more trusted editing apps like CapCut . And no, we’re not getting paid to say this. We’re just genuine fans. 

The key takeaway? Immerse yourself in crafting concise yet impactful visual tales that captivate your audience and pull them into the heart of your travels. Because when you nail storytelling through video, you'll level up in the travel-influencing game.

6. Connect with your followers

While it's easy to get caught up in boosting your follower count, building your audience is not just about numbers; it's the bedrock of turning your passion into profit. So, what's the secret for transforming those who just breeze through your content into loyal supporters? It's all about connection.

  • Make it personal: Every comment and every message is an opportunity to spark a conversation. Think of it as chatting with friends rather than broadcasting to followers. Why? Because connections are how you turn your followers into life-long supporters.
  • Share the real you: Show them the person behind the lens. Had a travel mishap? Share it. Found yourself lost in translation but ended up discovering something amazing? Tell that story. People love rooting for someone they can relate to, not just admire from afar.
  • Engage consistently: Navigating this part is where the challenge and thrill intertwine. Schedule regular posts and live sessions — but don’t stop there. Surprise live streams or impromptu Q&As can make your followers feel like they're part of your journey, not just spectators.
  • The power of polls and questions: Quick polls on Instagram stories are golden for gauging interest or making decisions together — like choosing between two destinations. Similarly, ending posts with questions isn’t just good etiquette; it invites dialogue and shows you value their opinions.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a solid follower base. But by consistently showing up authentically and genuinely engaging with those spending time with your content, you'll build a following grounded in trust and mutual respect.

Last but certainly not least, listen closely to what they have to say through comments or direct messages — if you get trolls, that's a different story. In that case don't listen and tell them to go back to their caves. 🧌

Follower feedback is the key to refining what works best — for you and them. Being seen is good; being remembered is the goal. By connecting on a personal level, you're not only building an audience but creating a community . And that, my friend, is priceless.

How to Become a Travel Influencer

Becoming a successful travel influencer in 2024 requires more than just picturesque posts and jet-setting adventures; it involves building a brand, engaging with followers, and collaborating with travel brands. From finding your niche to creating high-quality content, consistency, audience engagement, and connecting with brands, aspiring entrepreneurs and digital nomads can learn actionable steps to kickstart their journey as a travel influencer.

When I was working in Corporate America in New York City, I remember scrolling through Instagram in my cubicle seeing influencers travel the world and thinking “ That is exactly what I want to do.” And it became my mission to figure out how. I spent all my free time (sometimes on work hours… shhh) taking action and trying to learn how I can make it a sustainable business.

I’m happy to say that it has been 7 whole years as a full-time influencer and world traveler , and I am so excited to be sharing this blog post with you all. If you are maybe reading this from a cubicle wondering what I was wondering just a few years ago, then this is for you.

And don’t worry, if you’re thinking:

  • Is it even possible to make it nowadays in the influencer industry?
  • Is the market too saturated?
  • I can’t do this I have a full time job.

I’ve been there, and I’m here to tell you that it IS possible, and now is the best time to start.

As a travel influencer that has survived the pandemic, I want to teach you how to grow your travel influencer business in a way that aligns with your brand and values, helping you create incredible and soul-aligned opportunities for yourself.

What is a Travel Influencer

Before we get into it the ‘how to’ part, let’s just clarify what a travel influencer is.

A travel influencer is someone who has established credibility in the travel niche, with the ability to affect travel decisions of others due to their authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with their audience.

This role extends beyond sharing travel experiences. It involves creating content that inspires and informs others, whether that’s showcasing new destinations, offering travel tips, or sharing personal travel stories.

A successful travel influencer does not just have a large number of followers but also a community that is engaged, trusts their recommendations, and looks to them for travel inspiration and guidance.

In essence, a travel influencer is a content creator, a storyteller, a community leader, and often a trendsetter in the travel industry.

How has the role of a Travel Influencer evolved?

The role of travel influencers has evolved significantly with the rise of social media platforms. Initially, travel influencing was about sharing captivating images and stories from exotic locations.

Today, it’s a professional endeavor that blends entertainment, education, and digital marketing. Influencers are now content creators who must be skilled in photography, videography, storytelling, and social media strategy.

They’re also brand ambassadors who work with tourism boards and travel brands to promote destinations and products. As the digital landscape changes, so too does the work of travel influencers.

They’re adopting new technologies like drones for aerial footage and virtual reality to create immersive experiences. Travel influencers have transformed from casual hobbyists into entrepreneurs, building personal brands and businesses with their ability to inspire wanderlust and shape the travel industry.

Why You Should Become a Travel Influencer

If you are reading this article, you have most likely already answered this for yourself. But let’s discuss it anyway.

It offers the freedom to explore the world while sharing your experiences and inspiring others to do the same. As a travel influencer, you have the potential to turn your love for adventure into a source of income by partnering with travel brands, tourism boards , and hospitality businesses.

Beyond monetary benefits, you get the opportunity to connect with a community of like-minded individuals, create a flexible lifestyle that suits your personal goals, and develop your creativity and skills in content creation.

Additionally, travel influencers often enjoy the perks of travel-related discounts, complimentary stays, and exclusive experiences that aren’t typically available to the average traveler.

Sounds pretty good, right?!

So the big question you are all here for…

How can YOU become a travel influencer?

There is no denying that there are a lot more travel infleucners than there were a few years ago. But this absolutely does not mean that you cannot start now! In fact with an uptrend in successful micro-influencers, it’s a great time.

From here on, we are are going to get into the actionable steps, sharing hints, tips and tricks on becoming a travel influecner.

The Travel Influencer Handbook

Find Your Niche in Travel Influencing

Finding your niche is a crucial first step to becoming a successful travel influencer.

Your niche is the specific area of the travel world that you are most passionate about and knowledgeable in. It should reflect your unique perspective and experiences.

To discover your niche, consider what aspects of travel excite you the most. Are you drawn to luxury travel, adventure sports, culinary experiences, or perhaps sustainable tourism? Think about the type of content you enjoy creating and what sets you apart from others in the travel space.

It’s also important to research and understand your potential audience; identify what they are interested in and what gaps you could fill with your content. Having a clear niche will help you to create more targeted and engaging content, attract a dedicated following, and work with brands that align with your travel style and values.

What to do if you can’t pick a niche?

Pick a platform and get really good at creating content.

Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube. DO NOT try to start all three at once.

Choose one platform and make it your job to get very good at creating videos that people will want to follow. This means studying what tricks and strategies are working, learning what types of content and editing each platform favors, and also following along successful influencers who are doing what you want to do.

The popularity of video is no longer a secret. With every social media platform introducing video feeds, your brand needs to be visible in video form to stay relevant on the social media platform you choose.

Consistently posting high-quality content is key to growth. Share your travel stories, tips, and insights regularly to keep your audience engaged and coming back for more. You’ll want to stick to a consistent posting schedule to practice getting yourself in front of the camera and sharing your work with the world.

If you are starting from scratch, I recommend starting with a 14-day challenge where you post something on the platform of your choice every day for 14 days.

The worst-case scenario is you get that much more familiar with social media strategy!

Create scroll stopping videos:

  • Start with a hook that gets viewers attention. This can be an interesting piece of footage, attention grabbing text, or both.
  • Provide value to your audience. Whether that be to entertain, educate or inspire, your video needs to provide some sort of value to the viewer.
  • Keep it simple. Most of us aren’t professional video editors and especially if you’re new to creating video, the easier the video is, the more enjoyable it is to create content, ultimately helping you to stay more consistent. Keeping it simple also helps the video be authentic and we are seeing a huge upwards trend in raw and ‘real’ content on social media.

In The Travel Influencer Handbook , I teach and recommend using a Reels Strategy on Instagram because it is the main format of content that is displayed to people not already following you. In contrast, your stories, posts, and carousels are only shown to your existing followers, so focusing your time on creating short-form videos will yield the highest chances of you gaining followers!

Create a cohesive, on-brand feed:

You will want everything you post to be cohesive when new accounts first land on your page. This requires coming up with a posting strategy that aligns with your overall brand, and choosing your colors, fonts, and aesthetic.

Build your portfolio

As you get better and better at creating content, you will want to start creating a portfolio of your work. Think of this as a showcase of your work for potential clients that you want to work with. Your portfolio will showcase what you are capable of creating for potential clients, and what value you bring to the table.

Usually, your portfolio is displayed on a website, and you can simply have it alongside your blog (read my step by step guide on how to set up your website and blog here ). If starting a website is too much tech for you right now, you can also create an easy portfolio on a Canva site. This is easier to get started with, but ultimately we will want to drive all traffic to your *own* website!

Create your media kit and rate card

Next, you’ll want to create a media kit and rate card. Think of a media kit as a resumé for influencers. A media kit is where you will share one page with all your links, credentials, your brand, and all your numbers like your audience size and reach.

This will be accompanied by a rate card, which is what you will be charging for your services. You can start with photography and videography services, as well as feed posts or videos. You can also eventually expand into blog posts, podcast advertisements, and UGC videos as well!

Partnering with Travel Brands

Partnering with travel brands is a primary way for influencers to monetize their online presence.

To begin, identify brands that align with your niche and values. A successful partnership is based on mutual benefit, where the influencer can provide exposure and a genuine endorsement, while the brand offers compensation or complimentary services.

When reaching out to potential partners, present your professional media kit that showcases your audience demographics, engagement rates, and past collaborations. Be clear about what you can offer, such as content creation, social media promotion, or product reviews.

It’s important to maintain authenticity and transparency with your followers by only endorsing products or services you truly believe in and would use yourself.

Remember, long-term relationships with brands are more valuable than one-off deals, so strive to deliver high-quality content and results that can lead to ongoing partnerships.

Pitch to hotels and travel brands

In the end, landing your first few jobs will all be a numbers game. To give you an idea of what it takes, I used to email and DM at least 20 businesses a day, getting my name out there and offering my services. There will be a lot of no’s and even more no-responses. But in the end, your first yes will be so worth it.

The key to pitching is focusing on the value you bring to the table, and making an offer so good they would be silly saying no to. In the beginning, it really helps to overdeliver and undercharge. Of course, you don’t want to make undercharging a habit, but getting your foot in the door and having the experience in your portfolio will help you out as well.

I wish a travel blog course like this had existed when I started my own blog in 2018. Many of the courses back then were created by OG travel bloggers, and no shade to them, but what worked a decade ago doesn’t work now.

You need to learn Search Engine Optimization (SEO) if you want consistent, exponentially growing traffic. It’s how I got accepted into Mediavine (widely considered the best ad network), and it’s where 90% of my traffic comes from.

SEO is the BEST way to get traffic to your website because it allows you to reach a wide and targeted audience. Millions of people are searching for topics that your blog posts answers, so wouldn’t you want them to find them on search engines?

However, SEO is not the easiest thing to learn (and it changes constantly). There wasn’t a quality course designed to explain it to travel bloggers until Nina took it into her own hands, became a master of SEO, and created the SEO Road Map.

My first course was Nomadic Matt’s superstar blogging course, which he no longer runs. But don’t worry – there’s an even better course.

3. Affiliate Marketing Superstars

When it comes to my blog’s income, ads and affiliate sales are my two biggest earners. Affiliate marketing is when you promote a product or service through an affiliate link, as I am doing with this affiliate marketing course . If you decide to enroll in it, I’ll get a small commission on the sale.

But affiliate marketing is not as simple as dropping a few links in a post; you need a strategy. I made almost no money from affiliates for the first two years of my blog because I didn’t have one. Now, it’s my biggest source of revenue.

I bought this course at the end of 2019 but then got busy with life moving to Barbados , and never got around to completing it. Then, about a year later, I met the creator of the course, Leanne, at a travel blogging conference, and she gave me a bunch of helpful advice (she’s also a lovely human).

That meeting inspired me to finish the course, and now I wish I had earlier because it is PACKED full of helpful strategies and resources that will help you become a master of affiliate marketing.

Working with brand and tourism boards can be an extremely profitable way to make money if you have a strong social following. Honestly, most brands aren’t interested in blogs these days – they want to see you have an engaged audience on your social media platforms.

To me, influencer marketing and blogging are two different worlds. You can be an extremely successful blogger without a substantial following, and vice versa; you can be an influencer without a blog. Or you can have both – but it’s a lot to manage!

It’s really up to what feels most authentic to you. I’m primarily a blogger and don’t do a lot of brand campaigns, but I do take part in many press trips (“free trips” that are hosted and or paid) by tourism boards. I would never get these without my social media following.

That said, influencer marketing is the wild west. There are micro-bloggers getting 4-figure deals and influencers with huge followings only getting comped products. The secret to making money? Pitching and negotiating.

Unless you have a massive following or are an authority in a specific niche, DO NOT expect brands to come to you. You need to go out and pitch them, and there’s an art to this.

I also had about 100 page views a month and even less income. I’m happy to say that those days are far behind me now, but it’s because I invested in courses on blogging!

Blogging is a skill. Like any skill, it requires a lot of time to learn. You can significantly speed that up by enrolling in a blogging course.

Yes, there is a ton of free information out there. But much of that information is incorrect, outdated, and confusing. Having all the information in one place from a reliable source is well worth the cost.

If you want to make money blogging, you need to treat it like a business. Do you know any successful companies that had no money invested in them? Probably not.

Investing in myself and my blog is the best money I’ve spent on my business. And I say investment because I’ve already had that money spent come back to me 10x over.

Now, I can travel the world full-time because of my blog and work with brands and tourism boards that I used to dream about!

What type of blogging courses should you invest in?

Before investing in a travel blogging course, you should consider your blog’s goals.

If you want to earn money passively without worrying about social media, you should focus on affiliate marketing and search engine optimization (SEO).

With proper SEO techniques, you can get hundreds of thousands of people visiting your blog every month without ever showing your face on Instagram (yes, really)!

Once you reach 50,000 sessions a month, you can apply for Mediavine, widely known as the best ad network for travel bloggers. I got accepted in 2022, and it was a game-changer for me.

There are ad networks that you can join with fewer pageviews, but they aren’t nearly as good. I was with Ezoic before, and let’s just say I don’t miss them.

I would wait until you have at least 10,000 page views before adding ads to your site; the dollar amount you’ll earn won’t be worth the impact it will have on your site speed.

While waiting for your page views to increase (because SEO does take time), focus on creating targeted affiliate posts. I have posts with less than 200 page views monthly that still generate monthly income because they are for a specific buying intent.

If your goals are to work with brands and tourism boards, that can also be very lucrative – but it is an entirely different beast of its own (and a lot of work – it’s not all pretty bathtub pics).

If you want to work with brands, you’ll need to have a heavy presence on social media, but more importantly, know how to pitch and negotiate with brands. Spoiler alert: I know influencers with less than 10k followers getting 5-figure deals.

Or maybe you want to be a travel writer for the world’s top travel publications – there are courses for that, too.

All of the above are part of my business. Had I just focused on one area, I’d probably be making more money than I am. But there’s also something to be said about having multiple income streams – never put all your eggs in one basket.

As a professional travel blogger who’s been in the field for over five years, I know firsthand that monetizing a blog requires creativity, persistence, and the right strategies. Here’s how you can start making money with your travel blog:

1. Affiliate Marketing : Partnering with brands and promoting products you trust can be a lucrative way to earn commissions. By including special tracking links within your blog posts, you can earn a percentage of the sales made through those links.

Almost every major travel brand, such as Booking.com , Viator, VRBO , and more, offers an affiliate program. By promoting their services, you can earn a commission on each sale made through your unique affiliate link.

If you want to work with multiple brands, joining a travel-specific affiliate network like TravelPayouts can be a great place to start. These networks provide access to various affiliate programs in one place, simplifying the process of finding and managing partnerships.

2. Display Advertising : By placing ads on your blog, you can earn money based on the number of views.

Mediavine is widely regarded as the best ad network for travel bloggers. The company offers excellent customer support, user-friendly dashboards, and higher earning potential. It’s what I use. However, it’s important to note that Mediavine requires a minimum of 50,000 monthly sessions.

Before hitting the 50k sessions mark, you can consider joining SheMedia or Monumetric. Both networks are reputable and allow bloggers to start monetizing with as little as 10,000 sessions.

I’ve worked with Monumetric on my niche website and found them to be good, with my RPMs sometimes as high as Mediavine (although I have a much larger US audience on that site). Don’t waste your time with Ezoic.

3. Sponsored Content : Working with travel companies, hotels, or tour operators on sponsored posts can be a great way to earn income. Just be sure to choose partnerships that align with your brand and disclose them to your readers.

4. Selling Products or Services : Create and sell your own products such as eBooks, online courses, travel guides, or photography.

5. Travel Photography Sales : If you have a knack for photography, consider selling your travel photos through platforms like Shutterstock or directly to magazines and tourism boards.

6. YouTube and Video Monetization : Expand your blog into video content, and monetize your YouTube channel through ads, sponsorships, and affiliate links.

Siteground Hosting . If you want to have your own website like this one, you need a hosting provider. I started with HostGator and switched to Siteground after becoming increasingly frustrated with my website speed.

Facebook Groups For Travel Bloggers

Facebook groups have been so helpful in my blogging journey. There is a Facebook group for just about everything regarding travel blogging, such as collaboration opportunities, link building, guest posts, and social media sharing.

Diving deeper into the nuances of Black travelers’ preferences, a noteworthy pattern emerges. The Mandala survey identifies a distinct subgroup categorized as African-American cultural travelers. This group of travelers wants to explore Black history and traditions. They exhibit a distinctive spending pattern, while also shattering stereotypes and highlighting their dedication to meaningful experiences.

The survey unveils that these cultural enthusiasts spend an average of $2,078 per trip. The figure marks a significant contrast to the $1,345 spent, on average, by all African-American travelers. This differential spending is a testament to the commitment of cultural travelers to engage deeply with their chosen destinations. It also uncovers layers of heritage and contributes to the local economies in a meaningful way.

With diversity and inclusion at the forefront of many industry conversations, the rise of Black travelers in the luxury travel scene is not just a trend; it’s a transformation. Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!
