Must-Have Essentials for a Vacation That Can Be Purchased at Dollar Tree

' src=

Vacations can be expensive, but sticking to a budget can help keep travel spending minimal. Essential packing items are a must-buy among spending items like lodging, airfare, and entertainment. Still, there’s no need to splurge on them.

As of 2023, the average American vacation costs $1,919 per week , which is above the national average monthly rental price for an apartment at $1,700 . One of the best-kept secrets to help save money on essentials is to purchase them at Dollar Tree or other low-cost stores. When operating on a strict travel budget , purchasing must-haves at Dollar Tree is a great way to stretch a dollar further.

Practical Dollar Tree Essentials

1. travel toothbrush.

Not interested in bringing a toothbrush from home along for the trip? There’s no need to waste a chunk of your spending funds to buy a new toothbrush for vacation. A cost-effective solution is available at Dollar Tree. There is a plastic toothbrush from Dollar Tree you can use while out and about. This travel toothbrush kit even includes travel-size toothpaste, all for $1.25.

2. Disposable Razors

One of the common misconceptions regarding Dollar Tree is that their products are knockoffs. However, it’s important to debunk this myth, as plenty of name-brand items are at Dollar Tree—a practical and reliable option like a two-pack of Bic Disposable Razors , which are perfect for traveling. These razors come in handy when traveling, making them an excellent choice for travelers.

3. Travel Containers

The strict Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines dictate that liquids and gels must be carried in containers of 3.4 ounces or less. With these strict regulations, everyone must comply. Understanding the rules can prevent individuals from the unfortunate scenario of having to discard used bottles of shampoo, conditioners, or body wash. Recognizing this, individuals can invest in a set of travel bottles that are catered by Dollar Tree. Consider these 3 piece travel bottle sets , which are appropriately sized containers for your liquid and gels while embarking on your adventure.

4. Mini Deodorant

Utilizing the available packing space becomes a paramount consideration when preparing for travel endeavors. During these times, packing with minis becomes a brilliant strategy. Among the essentials, deodorant is a must-have on any vacation, and Dollar Tree carries mini versions of name-brand deodorants like Old Spice , perfect for slipping in small bags for a trip. This level of convenience isn’t about saving space but being sure individuals have all the comforts and necessities while on their trips.

5. First Aid Finds

During a trip, unforeseen situations happen. No one can predict what the future holds. Being prepared for anything is one of the best travel tips for any traveler. First aid essentials like Band-Aids, gauze, and sterile wipes are all stocked at Dollar Tree. The store also stocks complete mini-First Aid kits , which contain a variety of Band-Aid sizes and fit easily in a purse or backpack.

6. Sewing Kit

Whether you are on a business trip, a leisure vacation, or an adventurous escapade, unforeseen challenges to your attire can happen. Depending on the occasion for travel, a sewing kit can really come in handy. It’s hard to know when the next wardrobe malfunction is happening. Avoid embarrassing pant rips and broken straps ruining a vacation by purchasing a travel sewing kit for $1.25.

7. Manicure Kit

Another item that is nice to have while away from home is a manicure kit. This manicure kit from Dollar Tree comes with a nail file and three tools to trim nails, hang nails, and keep manicures looking great on vacation. This kit isn’t just about the aesthetic, but it embodies the idea that self-care should be an important part of your travel routine.

8. Sunscreen

Stocking up at Dollar Tree can save some serious cash. If the destination is somewhere sunny, plenty of sunscreen is a need. Forgetting sunscreen comes with paying a premium once arriving at a resort, hotel, or beach. Between reapplication and many sunny days, it’s well worth picking up a bottle at Dollar Tree before a trip.

9. Neck Pillow

Buying a neck pillow at the airport is expensive, but they have many uses between flights, train rides, and road trips. At Dollar Tree, neck pillows are available for just $5 and avoid the premium costs charged at hotels and airports. Different color options include blue, pink, and animal print.

10. Sanitizing Items

Getting sick on vacation is a recipe for travel disaster. According to a study by CDC doctors, between 6 and 87% of travelers get sick while being away from home. Preventative measures can help to avoid illness ruining trip plans. The best part? They can also be purchased at Dollar Tree. Consider these antibacterial travel wipes from Aquarelle or a two-count of travel-sized hand sanitizer , each for $1.25.

Packing with Purpose

There’s no better feeling than perfectly meeting a vacation budget. Before traveling for vacation, avoid paying premiums for travel essentials and fill up a basket at Dollar Tree. Travelers won’t regret taking the time to save some cash. In fact, purchasing all of the items on this list should be less than $20.

At the dollar tree you can find small travel size tubes of sunscreen. Since the quantity is pretty small in the tube I just don’t find it enough for a longer cruise. However if you’re on a short three day cruise bringing a couple of tubes may be enough.

Something to keep in mind is that many Caribbean islands now require you to wear reef friendly sunscreen this may be one product that you may prefer to buy from Amazon.

See recommendation here: Reef friendly sunscreen (check price & reviews on Amazon here)

6. Aloe Vera (travel size)

A cruise essential is an aloe vera after sun gel. Small travel size bottles of aloe vera gel can be found at most local dollar stores.

7. Lip Balm

Dollar store lip balm

Lip balm is an a must to pack for your cruise . Along with sunscreen, make sure that you bring lip balm with an SPF on your cruise to avoid your lips burning. I like to bring several and make sure everybody in the family has one. We even make sure that these are packed in our cruise carry on bag .

8. Magnet Clips

A cruiser favorite for organizing a cruise cabin, are magnet hooks and magnet clips. Most cruise stateroom walls are metal, so using the walls store shore excursion tickets, invitations and other papers just makes sense.

While I still but my magnet hooks on Amazon , as they need to be heavy duty to hold backpacks and other heavy items, the magnet clips are pretty good.

Recommended: Magnetic hooks – 22 lbs heavy duty (see 20,000+ Amazon reviews here)

This cruise packing hack is a good one. You can use the different small compartments of the pill organizer to place earrings, rings, charms, small bracelets or necklaces.

You do want to be careful of tangling necklaces, so you may want to bring a small jewellery bag or use straw to string your necklace through.

If you’re cruising with kids , you’ll probably have a lot of shoes and flip flops taking up space, especially if you have an inside cabin. Our friends brought along a folding storage box and kept it at the bottom of their closet. They left it on the ship so it didn’t need to be brought home.

39. Rain Poncho

There are 2 places that ponchos come in very handy in my experience – at Disney and on cruises!! I think this is because we’ve been caught twice with really bad days of rain on both vacations.

Pick up ponchos for only about a dollar and you won’t be sorry, in case you need them.

Just wondering if you have a tip for what to keep my papers (Birth certificate, license etc…) in? This is my first cruise and that would be helpful. Thanks!

I bring a passport wallet and keep my documents there. However you can use your wallet if items are small. Printed items can go in a folder.

Hope that helps and you have an amazing cruise!

49 Dollar Tree Trip Packing Essentials (Includes Shopping List)

Updated: Jun 18, 2022

woman wearing glasses, holding pink piggy bank and hammer, caption saying don't break the bank packing for your next vacation

Most items needed for your trip can be picked up super cheap at Dollar Tree for a third or less than you’d spend at a pharmacy or department store. Plus, you can probably get everything in one trip, saving you time and money!

As both a travel agent and a traveler, I believe our trips' financial investment should go toward what will make the trip the most enjoyable, memorable, and comfortable. How much I spend on ibuprofen, toothpaste, and tissues isn't going to make a difference in the memories I'll have for years of my trip. Or yours.

In addition to saving money, many of your toiletries and other small items you need can be found at a Dollar Tree, saving you multiple stops in other stores. Even with this year's pricing jump from $1 to $1.25, this store may be your best travel budget, shopping, and packing resource.

dollar tree storefront

I’ve created a list of items by category that you may need or want. You're actually going to see many more things than the 49 that I promised. I’ll also add some thoughts that I believe you may find helpful. Lastly, I'm including a link to a handy printable Dollar Tree Vacation Shopping List to help you plan your shopping trip.

collage with books, magazines, yarn and toys

ACTIVITY ITEMS

Dollar Tree carries a lot of options to keep adults and children entertained. Particularly when flying, it’s helpful to have activity choices to keep people occupied in airports and planes.

Magazines, books

Puzzle books (crossword, sudoku, word find)

Stickers & temporary tattoos

I love my Kindle and Audible apps, but there’s something nice about holding an “old-fashioned” book or magazine when on vacation. And I’m happy to leave those behind in a ship’s library, cabin, hotel room or lobby, or in an airport for someone else to enjoy them. Even if you’re not a big puzzle book person, these can help kill time when flying and could even become a new hobby. Why the toys, stickers, and tattoos?

A “new toy” can be a sanity-saver when traveling with a bored child on a plane, bus, or train. Stickers and temporary tattoos can also be fun or used as bribery. (Yes, I have experience with bribing my sons on trips when they were young.) Just be sure that the stickers aren’t left on something that makes housekeeping try to scrape off memories of your family from furniture and walls.

hand sanitizer, lysol disinfecting wipes

CLEANING ITEMS

One of the best ways to avoid illness when traveling has always been diligent with handwashing and cleaning.

Hand sanitizer

Antibacterial wipes

Disinfectant wipes

Small sanitizer bottles and antibacterial wipes in ziplock bags are great traveling companions when you wish you could wash your hands, but can’t. And disinfectant wipes come in handy for wiping down your armrests and tables on planes, handles, and TV remotes in hotel rooms and ship cabins, as well as toilet knobs and seats.

Collage with nightlight, air fresheners, earplugs rain poncho

COMFORT & SAFETY ITEMS

These are the type of things you’ll want to pick up from Dollar Tree that you’ll appreciate in a pinch.

Air freshener

Cushion insoles

Rain poncho

Face masks & face shields

If you like to have a small light on at night, you could keep your bathroom light on with the door cracked, but a nightlight would be better. A flashlight is a great tool that’s helpful at night, especially if there’s a loss of electricity. This may be an item rarely needed but, wow, can it really be beneficial when needed. And don’t forget the batteries! Another helpful item is an air freshener for your bathroom. To avoid the potential mess of a gell or liquid, pick up a car freshener.

A sleep mask (eye mask) and earplugs make a difference when trying to sleep on planes, in noisy places, and napping in a cabin or room that doesn’t get dark enough. Another comfort item on a plane is a pair of socks to keep your feet warm if you take your shoes off.

Speaking of feet, you’ll likely do more walking than usual, so those cushion insoles help your feet and stamina.

The small folded-up ponchos are a terrific item to put in your back pocket, bag, or purse. I’ve appreciated those twice. Once, when I was on a boat excursion in the Caribbean and the other in an Alaskan port. Although it wasn’t cold in Ketchikan in June, it was too cold to be walking around while wet. These rain ponchos will help keep you dry without taking a lot of packing space.

Not everyone wants to decorate their cruise cabin. However, it’s a popular activity for some travelers, and I’ve seen photos of very decked-out cruise ship cabins. Perhaps you want to celebrate your traveling companion’s birthday or holiday, or you enjoy making your room into your castle. A dollar store is the most economical place to shop for decorating on your vacation.

Flameless candles can do the job of a nightlight. They can also lend a lovely ambiance to your accommodations. While I’ve not seen regular-sized flameless candles at our favorite dollar store, I have picked up flameless tea lights there.

Why a picture frame? I’ve had many clients tell me they take a photo of their family or dog or cat on vacation. Why not put their photo in a frame on the vanity or night table by your bed?

FOOD & BEVERAGE ITEMS

Plan ahead to pick these up from your local Dollar Tree, so you don’t end up paying airport prices for these purchases.

Reusable water bottle

Coffee travel mug

Not only can a reusable water bottle save you money over buying bottles of water, but it’s also much better for the environment that you’re out enjoying. And since ship tap water is clean and safe to drink, filling up your bottle when cruising saves you money.

Snacks for in the car, airplane, train, bus, and hotel room can be picked up at much lower prices at Dollar Tree. But why did I list lollipops separately? Babies’ ears will “pop” more easily on a plane when sucking on a pacifier or bottle or when they are nursing. But for older kids, a lollipop can be a huge help in clearing their ears and relieving their pain.

HEALTH & BEAUTY ITEMS

This may be the most significant area in which you can save money by travel shopping at Dollar Tree.

travel toothbrush dollar tree

Travel-size toiletries

Over-the-counter meds

First Aid kit

TSA will allow you to bring one 1-quart-size ziplock bag of liquids, gels and aerosols no larger than 3.4 ounces into the passenger cabin of a plane. Medication is an exception. Any other liquids and gels must be packed in your check-in luggage.

Here’s where you want to consider stocking up on your deodorant, shampoo, and other toiletries.

If you’re already a Dollar Tree shopper, you’re aware they carry a vast array of OTC meds including ibuprofen, acetaminophen, laxatives and vitamins. They carry medicines for allergies, upset stomachs. diarrhea, cough, cold, sinus, and more.

Are you wondering why I included a washcloth on the list? People around much of the world wonder about American’s “obsession” with washcloths (also known as “face cloths” and “flannels”) and ice. You’ll find washcloths to be fully available on cruises. But if you stay at hotels on other continents, you may be surprised to not have them in your room. Best to take one or two and a ziplock in which to put damp ones.

DESK SUPPLIES:

I don’t like to trust that I’ll have ready access when I need even simple items, so I always pack pens and paper.

Tablet/journal

Highlighter

Duct or shipping tape

If you are going on a cruise, a highlighter comes in handy for highlighting activities you don’t want to miss on the daily activity sheets. A small roll of duct or shipping tape is an item you could easily overlook but, if something tears or breaks, you’ll be glad to have it.

STORAGE & ORGANIZATION

The more organized you are, the better your packing will go and the more comfortable you will be in your “temporary travel home.”

blue package with four matnetic clips

Refillable toiletry bottles

Pill organizers

Ziplock freezer bags

Plastic hangers

Mesh laundry bag

Magnetic metal clips

If traveling outside the U.S., for you to pack your OTC and prescription meds in their original packages. The pill organizers are excellent for storing your earrings, particularly studs.

All of my liquids and aerosols that get packed are put into ziplock bags. It only takes one trip of having your clothing affected by a leaking bottle. My experience was a long weekend smelling like my hairspray. Never again! Ziplocks also help with organizing, packing, and separating dirty and wet clothing. I’ve found that the freezer bags hold up much better.

A mesh laundry bag can store your dirty clothes while letting them air out a bit. Over-the-door hooks can assist with extra space.

Magnetic metal clips are one of my favorite travel packing hacks for cruising. The cabin walls are metal. By hanging your papers (shore excursion tickets, daily activity papers, order forms, invitations, etc.), you give yourself more space, and everything is neater.

row of yellow and blue reading glasses, pineapple ear buds and USB cable

SPARE PARTS

I named these as “spare parts” because, is many cases, these aren’t always the quality I’d likely trust as my primary items. But in case I forget one of them or my main one breaks, having a cheap “spare” that I didn’t invest much money into is helpful and much cheaper than replacing in an airport, tourist destination, resort or on a cruise ship.

Spare earbuds

Spare phone charger

Spare reading glasses

Spare sunglasses

Spare flip-flops

Flip-flops can also double as slippers. Pack your "spare" earbuds, charger and glasses separately from your main ones so you do have a set even if a suitcase gets lost.

Packing Tip

An added way to save time and money is to have a “trip” container for items that are reusable or which don’t expire. Tucked in the back of my closet is a Sterlite container where I toss items that are used for trips. I first raid this treasure chest before seeing what I need to buy. Travel toothbrushes, toothpaste, small tissue packs, and small toiletry containers are among what's in there waiting for the next time I travel.

Dollar Tree Travel Hacks you Won’t Believe!

Dollar Tree Travel Hacks you Won’t Believe!

With all the added costs of flights, hotels, car rentals, tickets, etc., it can be difficult to justify spending money on travel accessories. These D ollar Tree travel  hacks will help you get the essential travel items for a fraction of the cost!

There are many things you can purchase for your vacation that will help make your travels easier and more comfortable. You can view a list of some of these things in our top carry on items guide!

On this list, you will find items ranging from packing containers, beach essentials, kids’ travel items, to sleeping products. They will all be worth a try, especially because they will only cost you one dollar!

Unfortunately, many items on the Dollar Tree website require you to buy a case or a minimum number of each product. It may be better for you to visit your nearby store if you are not planning on buying 20+ of each item!

Disclosure: Some of the links below are affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

Dollar Tree Travel Hacks!

There are many items you can get at the Dollar Store (or other discount retailers) that make excellent travel accessories! Instead of paying full price for costly travel items, consider using these discounted versions!

Dollar Store Sleep Mask

These sleep masks a great D ollar Tree travel  hack. Sleep masks make it much easier to sleep on an airplane , car, train, or for a quick nap during the daytime. If you are looking for something with a little more quality and comfort, consider this 2 pack of sleep masks from Amazon for just $6.99!

Dollar Store Mesh Laundry Bag

This cheap mesh laundry bag is a great way to keep laundry separate from your clean clothes during a vacation. Aside from its typical use, consider using the laundry bag as a sandbag. When going to the beach, place your child’s toys, beach towels, etc. in the bag so you don’t end up taking home a bunch of sand!

You might also want to consider this beach sandbag that is a little larger, and made for the beach!

For more information on what to bring to the beach, read our guide on beach essentials !

Dollar Store Pill Boxes

Small pill cases are a great way to organize your medicines and prescriptions during your travels. Instead of taking all the large bulky pill bottles, you can simply pack what you need for each day, which will save tons of room and keep all your medicine in one place!

Aside from their typical use, you can also use these to store small items such as earrings and other jewelry so they do not get lost. Another option to store small items is to use clean contact cases! Read more on essential packing tips every traveler should know !

You can find these in different sizes, shapes, and colors as well depending on your preference and potential use!

Dollar Store Clothespins

Clothespins are another awesome D ollar Tree travel  item. While they have many uses, one trick is to use them in your hotel room. Often times, the curtains in your hotel leave a small gap, just enough to let the sunshine in on your face in the morning. Simply use the clothespin to keep the curtains together!

You can also use clothespins to keep your toothbrush from touching the hotel bathroom counter, as hotel rooms can be dirty ! Simply put the clothespin close under the bristles, which will give it a boost to avoid the counter.

For more, read our clever hotel hacks to improve your stay !

Dollar Store Duct Tape

Another great Dollar Tree travel hack is duct tape! Grab some rolls of colorful duct tape, the crazier the better. Use the duct tape to help label your suitcase, so it is easier to identify! Wrap a piece around the handle, or go crazy and make a cool design around the entire suitcase. You will be able to spot it from a mile away! Plus, if your suitcase ever goes missing, you will have more of a descriptor instead of, “it’s the black suitcase….”

Amazon has some crazy tape designs and colors as well, so check them out for more options! Have your kids help decorate your suitcases- I’m sure they will love this activity!

Dollar Store Flip Flops

Believe it or not, the Dollar Store actually has some cute flip flops! If you are going somewhere where you will need a spare pair of flip flops to go to the beach or pool, these are perfect! Plus, they are just one dollar, so get a few different designs! They are also good if you are staying in a hostel and want to wear flip flops in the shower.

You might also want to take a look at the dollar sunglasses. While they may not be the best, they are great to have as a backup pair in case you lose or sit on your good pair!

They even have bride/bridesmaid flip flops, if you are wondering what to pack for your honeymoon !

Dollar Store Window Clings

If you are traveling with children, these gel window clings will be a lifesaver! Your child can play with these on the airplane or car window, without you needing to worry about a mess or them getting stuck! You can typically find these in the holiday aisle of the Dollar Store, or in the craft aisle.

Read more about how to keep kids busy on an airplane .

Dollar Store Rain Poncho

No matter where you are traveling, or what season it is, it is a smart idea to have a rain poncho with you on your vacation. You never know when it might start to downpour- you don’t want to be left soaking wet! Simply pack the poncho in your day bag, just in case! It is small enough to pack, and you will be thankful you have it!

Read more ideas of what to pack in your vacation day bag.

Dollar Store Travel Bottles

Many travelers are not aware that plastic TSA approved liquids bottles are sold at the Dollar Store! They sell all kinds from typical bottles, spray bottles, and small containers. If you are looking for a more complete set for packing liquids, consider this liquids case – I use it and it is awesome!

You can also find travel products like shampoo, soaps, shaving cream, lotion, etc. at the dollar store that are already 3 ounces or under. Simply take what you need, put them in a zip lock bag, and you’ll be all set!

Dollar Store Binder Clips

Another D ollar Tree travel  item is binder clips! You can get these in bulk for super cheap, and they have tons of uses. One way to use them is to place a binder clip over the head of your shaving razor.

I pretty much lose the plastic cap almost immediately after taking it off, then left with a sharp razor head out in the open! Simply place the binder clip over it to prevent injuries, or catching on any of your clothes.

Dollar Store Shower Cap

Shower caps are a great thing to have in general, especially if you don’t wash your hair every day. You might come back from a day of sightseeing, and want to shower to freshen up before going to dinner- but you don’t want to wash your hair again. These are a great solution!

You can also use shower caps to hold your shoes in your suitcase, so they don’t get your clothes dirty. They can also be used to cover the hotel remote, as it is one of the dirtiest places in a hotel room ! You may want to use clear shower caps for these purposes.

Unfortunately, these shower caps are quite small (they don’t cover all my hair, and I have thin hair), so you might want to consider these larger shower caps if using them for their actual purpose!

Dollar Store Tote Bags

Who knew you could get these super cute tote bags for only one dollar! These days, you can use tote bags for practically anything- groceries, going to the beach, as a carry-on, going to the pool, the list is endless!

Keep one in your day bag as well when out sightseeing- you never know if you might collect some souvenirs, and the plastic bags might become ripped or hard to carry in your hand all day.

Grab a handful of these bags, as I am positive you will find multiple uses for them. Plus, if they get lost or broken- they were just one dollar, so who cares!

Dollar Store Oven Mitt

This one might sound crazy, but hear me out! Sometimes you need to pack your hot straightener or curling iron in a hurry, but you don’t want to burn your clothes! You can simply put it inside an oven mitt, and you won’t have to worry about it! A towel can also work if you don’t have anything else or an old T-shirt.

You can also get a product meant for this purpose, like this silicone flat iron pouch.

Read more about beauty hacks travelers should know!

Dollar Store Cereal Container

If you are taking a long road trip (or even if you are just in your car a lot), consider this cereal container garbage can. simply take the lid off, place a small garbage bag inside, and replace the lid. Now you have a small portable trash can, that even has a lid to trap the smells. While it is not the biggest trash can ever, it is better than throwing candy wrappers, plastic silverware, and gum wrappers all over your car!

You can find these at the dollar store in their kitchen organization and storage aisle.

Read more about road trip essentials to make your travels easier!

Dollar Store Storage Bags

Who knew the dollar store has vacuum storage bags?! These are a travelers dreams, especially for long term travel. With these storage bags, you can fit SO much more in your suitcase- just remember the weight will remain the same! For one dollar, you can’t beat the price!

Read more about essential packing tips travelers should know about !

Dollar Store Kids Toys

In order to keep kids occupied on long haul plane rides or road trips, it is essential to have tons of activities to keep them busy! Take a walk down the kid’s aisle of the dollar store, and fill a bag up of items they might enjoy. When your child begins to whine or get bored, you can present a new item! Hopefully, this can help kill some time!

Read more about airplane hacks for kids .

Dollar Store Toothbrush Holder

Toothbrush holders are an obvious way to keep your toothbrush clean, but have you ever thought of using them to store other items?

A clean toothbrush case can be an easy way to keep headphones, chargers, and other cables from getting tangled up in your suitcase. Eyeglass holders are another great option for this as well! This will keep your cables easily accessible in your carry on bag!

Read more about the best carry on bag !

Dollar Store Scarf

The dollar store has tons of scarves, both for fashion and cold weather, of all types of color and patterns. These will come in handy if you are planning to visit any churches or temples on your vacation. Most of these places do not allow you to enter if you are showing your shoulders, or revealing too much cleavage. Having a scarf will allow you to cover up so you don’t have to worry about getting denied!

Additionally, they are good to have if you are going out to eat, and want to cover up a little more, or if it is chilly inside!

Is there a tip for using the vacuum bags on the return leg of your trip? Access to a vacuum seems unlikely.

Saturday 16th of March 2024

@Lili, I use them religiously for our yearly vacation. I've found the pack and sit method the best. I pack the bag, zip it almost fully closed and then sit on the sealed end slowly leaning towards the zippered end until all the air is out and then zip it closed. It works like a charm.

Monday 20th of November 2023

I don't feel most of those are things I would take, but I like the dollar tree, but items are $1.50 and wow for Christmas they go up to $5.00 an item. Crazy.

Monday 18th of March 2024

@Diney, wow 1.50 and 5.00 at Christmas? My stores are not like that yet but a lot of stuff is not worth 1.50 to me let alone 5.00 bucks.

Friday 6th of October 2023

In addition to the 'cheater' reading glasses, check out the Dollar Tree sunglass readers! LOVE these for the beach, so if they get sandy or scratched up, less expense. Dollar Tree is also a great place to pick up travel size body lotion, hair conditioner, and wipes of all kinds--face, body, and sanitizing.

Wednesday 30th of August 2023

I am going on my first cruise and have been doing a lot of research. I read that people decorate their cruise ship doors, so that you can find your room easier, and also to be welcoming. Also people put a stick on marker board to leave messages for friends because roaming charges on your cell phone are huge and not everyone gets cell service. I was going to buy all of this at the dollar store. I was also going to look for something that would clip on the pool lounger to keep my towel from flying away…lol…any ideas?

Sunday 17th of September 2023

@Darla, The large black office clips work very well for this purpose ! Enjoy your cruise !

Save big on oral care items at Dollar Tree!

As one idea, these Plackers Stop Grinding Mouth Guards are just $1!

Here’s what Hip2Save reader Chris said…

I recently found a great deal on mouth guards at Dollar Tree. I grind my teeth at night and wear mouth guards that typically cost $30 from Wal-Mart. They last about 6 months before I have to replace them. Dollar Tree has Plackers mouth guards. Although it says they are “1 day disposable”, I have worn it every night for a month and it still looks new. The grade of material feels the same as the more expensive ones. Even if you chose to replace it monthly, it would be cheaper. It is just as comfortable and not bulky as the previous one I wore.

I buy the 6 pack of toothbrushes there just to use for cleaning around the house.

The DenTek Temperin Max that is shown in the picture is a great deal and very hard to find at Dollar Trees. They are constantly sold out. It’s great stuff, works wonders until you can get to a dentist. I am ashamed to say I once used it for months with no problems when I was in the military and avoiding the dentist. When I finally saw the dentist he said the Temperin did a great job at preserving my tooth and preventing further decay.

' src=

Just curious, how did it help preserve your tooth and prevent further decay? That’s amazing.

With my luck, I’d probably inhale it and have to get it fished out of my lung :{

' src=

FYI: Those only work for people who grind just the back teeth. If your front teeth are involved at all, these will do nothing. So if you chomp in your sleep get a full mouth piece.

I like these for when I’m stressed and grind. Because full mouth pieces make me gag or I spit out in my sleep. These didn’t bother me.

' src=

True!! I grind my teeth, and liked these because they aren’t so bulky in your mouth. After awhile I began to notice my front teeth felt different on the edges. 😳 In my sleep I was able finagle a way to grind my front teeth while using these

A small shelving unit that sits atop your desk provides storage space for school supplies. For this DIY project, purchase two hanging wall shelves  along with four square decor signs, wood glue , a utility knife , and two packs of removable wallpaper .

Glue the decor signs, standing vertically, to the ends of the shelf boards. Cover the entire unit with the self-adhesive wallpaper, trimming the edges with a utility knife. Use the shelves to store notebooks, papers, writing utensils, and lightweight books. The unit would probably not hold heavy items.

Wooden Boxes From The Craft Section Of Dollar Tree Join Together To Make This Organizer For School Supplies

The small, wooden box-within-a-box item from Dollar Tree offers DIY possibilities to create tiny drawers for paper clips, erasers, pushpins, and other minuscule school supplies. You'll need nine boxes, a hot glue gun, hot glue sticks , craft clamps , wood stain or paint, a package of the tumbling tower game , and label stickers .

Hot-glue the outer boxes together in three rows of three each and secure them with clamps while the glue dries. Glue the wooden pieces from the tumbling tower game to create drawer pulls on the small box inserts. Stain or paint the entire unit and add drawer labels.

Use Dollar Tree Items To DIY A Charging Station For Laptops And Tablets

This Dollar Tree DIY will help you keep your desk neat while you're charging your electronic devices. You'll need four wire napkin holders , a metal serving tray , a tube of super glue , and a package of zip ties . Optionally, you might want to spray paint the charging station in a color that complements your decor.

Use the zip ties to join the four napkin holders, and then glue them to the surface of the serving tray. Spray paint the entire unit, if desired. Place it on your desk or a shelf to organize your electronic devices while they're charging.

Create Colorful And Fun Pencil Holders Using Dollar Tree Toothbrush Holders

This is a fun craft activity that children would love, although an adult should wield the hot glue gun. Start with two toothbrush holders from Dollar Tree, two packages of multi-colored pom-poms , hot glue sticks , and a glue gun.

Apply the hot glue to the outside of the toothbrush holder, and attach the brightly colored pom-poms until the entire outside surface is covered. Use the holder with or without its lid as a receptacle for storing markers, pencils, pens, and paint brushes.

Hot-Glue Small Plastic Cups Inside School Supply Caddies To Organize Your Supplies

Small school supplies like crayons, pencils, erasers, and paper clips tend to fall to the bottom of storage containers and end up in a messy jumble. For this simple DIY, you'll need a small craft caddy from Dollar Tree along with a package of plastic tumblers , a hot glue gun, and glue sticks .

Simply glue two of the tumblers inside the large section of the craft caddy. Fill them with crayons and other school supplies to keep the items neatly separated. The plastic tumblers ensure that the supplies are within easy reach.

Use Dollar Tree Trays And Craft Sticks To Make A Stacked Tower For Organizing And Storing Papers

Flat letter trays from Dollar Tree make ideal organizers for school papers. But with flat tops, they don't offer much room for storing school supplies. To solve this problem, you can add craft sticks to elevate the trays. Along with the sticks, you'll need a hot glue gun and hot glue sticks .

Use hot glue to attach the craft sticks vertically at the corners of the trays. This hack will join them together in a stack while allowing enough room between the trays to store school supplies. Paint the craft sticks in a color that matches the trays.

Make A Desktop Organizer For Notebooks, Folders, And Papers Using Simple Objects From The Dollar Tree

Here's a DIY project that will help you organize file folders, notebooks, and assorted papers that you might collect for schoolwork. Start with three Dollar Tree wire napkin holders and a roll of PVC electrical tape .

Place the napkin holders side-by-side, and use the electrical tape to join them securely together. This type of tape is strong and forms a tight bond when it's wrapped neatly around the wires of the napkin holders. Place the organizer on a shelf or desktop and use it to sort and separate your school papers.

With A Few Dollar Tree Items, You Can DIY A Bi-Level Organizer For Pencils, Markers, Crayons, And Paint Brushes

With this DIY project, you'll be able to corral your writing and drawing utensils into one neat organizer. You'll need one wire paper towel holder , six wire mesh pencil holders , and a package of zip ties .

Start by joining four of the pencil cups together with zip ties. Then, slide the connected cups down over the paper towel holder. Next, join the remaining two pencil cups to the paper towel holder with zip ties, creating an upper level for pencil-and-pen storage. If desired, you could spray paint the entire unit in a color that complements your desk accessories.

Fashion A Wall-Hanging Bookshelf For Notebooks And School Books Using A Few Dollar Tree Components

This DIY wall-hanging shelf keeps books organized and within reach for students. For little ones, you can hang it at baseboard height to make the books easily accessible. You'll need three wire napkin holders , a package of zip ties , and a package of self-adhesive hooks .

Place the napkin holders end-to-end and join them securely with the zip ties. Adhere the hooks to the wall in a desired location and hang the adjoined napkin holders on the hooks. This DIY makes a handy organizer that utilizes vertical storage space to keep lightweight materials at eye level.
