Family-owned since it was built in 1993, Travellers Beach Resort is a centrally located property on Negril’s Seven Mile Beach , a short walk from restaurants, bars, and shops. An affordable mid-range option for groups, families, and couples, the resort features a big outdoor pool with swim-up bar, casual beachside restaurant, and a number of activities. Rooms are simple and clean with some modern touches (some rooms feel dated, but the hotel is in the process of renovating many of its older rooms). Personal, warm service from hands-on owners is often noted by satisfied guests.

Beachfront budget property.

The lobby of Travellers Beach Resort is large and very open, with plenty of seating, a piano, and a large reception desk. A small table also contains information on local tours, nearby restaurants and attractions, and hotel activities. Open doorways on both ends let in light and fresh air, and guests can see into the main outdoor portion of the hotel down to the pool and beach area from the lobby. The atmosphere is welcoming and informal, thanks to the personable hands-on owners that have earned a reputation for excellent service.

Centrally located on Negril’s Seven Mile Beach

Located on busy Norman Manley Boulevard, the hotel’s bright blue and white signs and buildings make it easy to spot from the main road. For guests that want to be in the middle of the action in Negril , Travellers is in a perfect location. With a small private beach area on Seven Mile Beach and a five-minute walk to the town center, guests have access to a wide variety of restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, and attractions, as well as a number of nearby hotels and resorts. But stick to the beach for walking -- the main highway is very busy and can be dangerous for pedestrians.

Basic Standard Rooms and newer, larger suites

The hotel features several types and sizes of rooms, from the older and more basic standard rooms to larger, more modern suites. Standard Rooms are fairly small and simple, with classic decor in brown and white as well as air-conditioning. While clean, some rooms are a bit worn and out of date (Superior Rooms in particular can have old-fashioned floral bedding) while others have modern decor touches. Deluxe Rooms are larger, with whirlpool tubs in the bathroom. The newest and nicest rooms are the Suites in the main building, which feature separate seating areas, large bedrooms, whirlpool tubs, and kitchenettes. All rooms have private, outdoor entrances, as well as patios or balconies.

A casual beachside restaurant, outdoor pool, and games

The hotel itself features a number of amenities and things to do, but the central location of Travellers puts it close to plenty of other attractions and activities as well. On the property, guests will find a casual, open-air beachside restaurant serving both Jamaican and international fare; both indoor and outdoor seating are offered. A game area with a pool table and ping-pong is located right next to the restaurant. A small spa and fitness center with aerobics room are unexpected features for this category of property. The outdoor pool has a swim-up bar, waterfall feature, and two whirlpools, but no ocean views. The hotel hosts regular events like karaoke and happy hours, and water and land sports as well as local tours are always available through the front desk.

If you're looking to get away from the big noisy mega resorts, this a great option in Negril. It's on the beautiful 7-mile beach. The resort is small with less than 100 rooms.The rooms feel very private with front doors to the outside. The food is good in the onsite restaurant. There were musicians and singers at night. Thankfully, they're done playing well before midnight so you can get some sleep.

This is not a fancy hotel, it is very much for a budget traveler that does not plan to spend a lot of time on the property and only need a clean room to sleep. Was not for me but if it’s within your budget, see my pros and cons below.

Pros - Location, right on the beach; Grounds are well maintained; Gift shop on property; Small refrigerator in room; Food wasn’t bad at the restaurant.

Cons - Small room; Noisy property, noise from guests was the worst, more so from locals than from tourists; Bad insulation so room was never comfortable, to me it felt humid; Bring bug spray, got bit up at breakfast; No hand towels provided; No facial tissue in bathroom; No backup generator so during a power outage in the area we had no power or water; Bathroom is very small, if you are a really big person you would not fit on the toilet since the space between the toilet and the shower is so close; Bed was not comfortable; Pillows were also not comfortable; Sheets are not changed every day, they only make up the bed; Bed linen was scratchy.
