Best time to go on a road trip from Chicago to Miami

The beauty of a road trip from Chicago to Miami is that you can do it at any time of the year.

During the summer months, it can be hot, averaging around 90 degrees in the Deep South and Florida, so air-conditioning is a must. Be sure to take refreshment breaks and schedule more stops accordingly.

Conversely, over the winter months, you might find that snow makes some of the areas around the national parks very difficult, and possibly cause road closures in the mountainous areas.

A springtime trip will still have glorious weather and less traffic than the summer season. Making the trip in May will also appeal to sports fans, with both the Kentucky Derby and the Indy 500 usually taking place at this time.

Other than that, you can hit the open road whenever you feel like it. Take as many days as you can allow to cover this impressive journey and look forward to a truly memorable road trip of a lifetime.

A trip to Miami is about more than fun in the sun—hop on a bus or train, call a rideshare, or rent a car and start exploring. Whether you’re planning a group trip to say, “thank you for being a friend,” a romantic getaway for two, or a whole-family outing, there’s something for every visitor in this eclectic oceanside city.

After you’ve had your fill of historical context, take a bite of something else that makes Miami unique: Floribbean cuisine. An organic fusion of Caribbean, Hispanic, and Asian cuisines brought to the region by large immigrant communities, Floribbean cuisine relies on fresh seafood and assertive spices. Hungry for something else? Seek out a Cuban sandwich, which some believe originated in town rather than elsewhere in South Florida.

While you may feel familiar with the city, thanks to its frequent portrayal in TV shows, movies, and songs, it’s no surprise that Miami is among the top stateside destinations for tourists. Top 5 airlines serving from Miami to Chicago

5 hour delay. They blamed the weather but it was the computer issues they had been dealing with for days.

Love delta but the delays and long waits for updates was just too much this time.

Flight for canceled. Horrible experience.. had to rent a car to drive myself up here.

If I can, I always fly Delta. I’ve found their service to always be reliable and pleasant.

Rated entertainment as Mediocre as there were major problems with the Infotainment system that took probably a half hour for them to fix.

Delta crushed it. Flight attendant in first was attentive and just never stopped. Honestly one of the best domestic flights I’ve been on.

The 1st class male crew member was very pleasant - the short female with round glasses , maybe in 50’s had no personality- never spoke when delivering my food, drink, & never smiled the whole trip! In fact looked annoyed when the boarding proses was happening- I would never hire this woman - unfriendly . Have never dealt with a crew member like her-

Best airline! Always friendly and welcoming. Skyclub was great and loved the fast free wifi on board. I also love that you can pre-order your meal on the app!

Delayed due to an ill passenger after loading. Not preventable on Delta's part. Was in first class. The seats are becoming worn and detaching from their velcro attachments. Only got snacks on flight. The attendant was not the friendliest.

I liked the ease of checking in, luggage check in, wheel chair assistance, boarding and flight.

Charging and entertainment didn't work. The meal was horrible. They only came by with the drink cart one time for the 8 hour flight. They did come by with water a couple times.

Exceptional, I’d like to specifically recognize Robert for his outstanding customer service. He is professional, pleasant, and personable.

Some sort of compensation for missing work because of a cancelled flight that was United’s fault

At least the delays were short. Business class, even in the new planes is very crowded now with crappy tray tables

The new Airbus A231neo has neat tech but the economy seats are so tight together that I always had my shoulders against one passenger or the other. I was very miffed that Basic Economy REQUIRES check-in of bags other than your personal carry-on; if you want to offer low-cost airline prices and then add services for a fee, just let me carry on my duffel. Hell, I could have put my carry on IN the duffel and called it a day but the gate agent would not let me; I ended up paying $40 for the risk of losing my bag. Not the worst flight, but far from the best.

Horrible , we missed our flight because they were way to busy for there airport to handle. We waited in line for the over three hours to be told there’s nothing they can do. Worst experience in any airport ever ,staff member from Lufthansa made it there job to be rude and unhelpful. I’m going to be calling to see if I can change flights because a 3 hour layover in a poorly ran airport isn’t enough.

It is a modern tragedy that any airline expects you to travel for 14 hours in such discomfort and that the only way to add comfort is exorbitant prices. I was in pain by the time we landed. Shameful.

After the morning frenzy of 35 min wait through CLT security at 4;30 AM, it was nice to have a smooth pleasant boarding experience. This 6:30 AM flight was not full. We were able to get seated swiftly and took off promptly. Nice touch they distributed the old fashioned headsets with 8 mm jacks. Snacks were decent and arrival was uneventful.

I had a great flight. Everything went smoothly and the flight arrived early.

Well....let's start from the point that I had to stay in airport for 12 hours instead of 2 that was scheduled. Poor company and even worst customer service. Never again....

Was lucky to have a employee at the AA checkin counter that had compassion and understood they ordeal that we went through with our original flight being diverted, needing to stay in the aircraft and then flying to the original destination; adding hours to the trip and forcing us to miss our connection and our rebooked connection. She was able to get up on standby on the highest priority on the next flight to the closest airport we need to be at and it all worked out despite being many hours late.

They gave my seat away although it was a connecting flight with them and the flight was a bit delayed.

Horrible people at the gate, they force me to check in my carry on, even thought no one behind me has to do it. I had to get out of the airport in NY to get my bag and go thru security again on my way to Honk Kong. The worst part is the employee threatened me with loosing the flights if don’t comply.

Horrible. Flight was delayed and very bumpy. I was super unhappy

The agents at the gate were rude. The stwards were pleasant. The seats were comfortable. The tray table had crumbs on it. A passenger talked constantlt and very loudly for the entire flight annoying many passengers. The stewards did not ask her to speak in a lower voice but my travel partner did.

Literally the worst experience ever and I had my service dog with me. Flight was supposed to leave at 1:51 PM but the plane arrived late. They boarded us around 3 PM and kept us on the plane for an hour saying that due to weather conditions in Miami, we could not takeoff yet. After waiting for an hour, they deplaned. And then they will not give us our bags back that we could just leave and schedule for another flight. Every hour they kept updating saying we have to wait another hour without any explanation as to what was going on. Eventually, I went to customer service to change my ticket, but by the time I made it to the front of the line, they started boarding my flight again. And then when we got onto the flight, they said there were two flight attendants That were past their shift. They kept us on the plane for about another 40 minutes until they told us they had no other flight attendance and had to deplane again. Then I gave us hotel vouchers and told us we would be on a flight at 6 AM the next day. At this point it is about 9 PM. I get to the hotel with my dog, who hasn’t been able to go potty for about eight hours. When I arrived at the hotel, I got a text alert saying my flight has been canceled at 6 AM and they moved past to 5 AM, however the hotel shuttle doesn’t leave early enough to make it to the airport for 5 AM flight. So me and some other passengers got a cab after about three hours of sleep to get back to the airport. This was the worst experience ever.

One of the worst flights I have ever taken Delayed over an hour without communication from the crew; very scary Entertainment not working Crew NASTY cabin cold

May never fly American again Delay in take off WITHOUT EXPLANATION Cabin freezing Crew NASTY entertainment did not work entire flight

Plane felt so crowded and tightly packed. The chair itself was not comfortable.

Flight was delayed due to crew not being there, besides that it was a normal flight.

Didn’t board the flight asked for a flight credit for future flights wasn’t given it. One of the children were to scared to board the flight

You get what you pay for, but those tickets weren't cheap, so I expected better, but Spirit is just one of those airlines.

Cancelled the return flight moments before boarding, horrible customer service in assisting with any rebooking. Never again will I fly Spirit.

Flight got diwngraded last minute and left us stranded. I was told I’ll be given credit for my luggage and seat upgrades but haven’t got anything yet

Crew was nice, explained emergency protocol very well. Flight took off and arrived on time. Pilot explained the small delay that occurred with docking and providing updates. I would definitely fly spirit again.

The seat are terrible. Don’t even think of sleeping on a Spirit flight. The kids that run the plane aka flight attendants are pretty rude and straight forward. They get the job done but without class.

I had a death in my family and booked my flight on Spirit. My flight was cancelled the morning of my flight, no explanation, no help to rebook, nobody to talk to. The next available flight was 2days later !!!! Terrible airline, will NEVER fly with them again!

They took a horrible route with a lot of turbulence and I eneded up getting sick. Even if the flight takes longer. Don't put people life at risk just to get to the airport on time.

Every thing was fine ,low price, easy on time ,clean, good staff, really no issues

Had to board plan 2x due to lack of security check after 1st boarding

Flying Frontier was a nightmare. From the booking through Kayak, checking in, departing and arriving, I will never recommend Kayak or Frontier.

The trip was unremarkable which is good. Crew was very professional and courteous.

Online check-in was not user-friendly. Too many fees, not cost effective.

FRONTIER SUCKS! The agent downstairs tricked me into booking, just to get to the gate. At the gate, they told me they couldn't help. I then called Customer Service. They and the gate attendants kept blaming each other. Neither side was willing to help the customer.

Good for the price. My only complaint is that the pilot should keep the air flowing while passengers are waiting to getting out of airplane.

I arrived 1 hour prior to boarding, and they said I was too late for a domestic flight. First time I heard that :-(

Frontier is a crappy airline nothing about it is honest

Crew members are very rude and not cooperate with passengers.

30 minute delay due to boarding and settling of a family.

I am HIGHLY unhappy with the amount of money I spent on the flight. Paid in advance only to find the flight at a discount price a week or so before the flight. I will not fly frontier again and have bad mouthed your business since to anyone I have spoken with about flying (which has been many a people). Crew was mediocre and instead of moving me to a spot where I could gain some leg room they sat their flight attendant there. Won’t be flying frontier in the future.

Pete Crow-Armstrong hits inside-the-park homer to lead Cubs past Marlins 6-3

Pete Crow-Armstrong hits inside-the-park homer to lead Cubs past Marlins 6-3 originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

MIAMI (AP) -- Pete Crow-Armstrong hit an inside-the-park home run and the Chicago Cubs beat the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Friday night.

Ian Happ and Miguel Amaya also homered for the Cubs (64-65), who began a nine-game road trip.

Crow-Armstrong’s 14.08 seconds home to home is the fastest in the major leagues since Byron Buxton ’s 13.85 on Aug. 18, 2017 as a member of the Minnesota Twins .

Isaac Paredes ’ run-scoring double against Marlins reliever Brett de Geus (0-2) in the eighth snapped a 3-all tie. Amaya then connected with a two-run drive off Kent Emanuel in the ninth.

Porter Hodge (2-1) worked 1 1/3 innings of relief for the win before Jorge López pitched the ninth for his fourth save.

The Marlins dropped to an NL-worst 46-82 and will end with their 24th losing season in the franchise’s 32-year history.

Miami chased Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks after Kyle Stowers walked with the bases loaded to tie it 3-3 in the fifth.

Happ’s two-run blast capped a three-run third that put the Cubs ahead 3-1. He drove a slider from Marlins starter Max Meyer for his 23rd homer.

Earlier in the third, Crow-Armstrong tied it with his sprint around the bases. His drive to the warning track got past right fielder Jesús Sánchez and caromed toward right-center, where centerfielder Derek Hill retrieved it and threw it to second baseman Otto López . Crow-Armstrong beat López’s relay throw with a head-first slide at the plate.

Jonah Bride ’s RBI single in the third narrowed the deficit to 3-2 for Miami.

Meyer completed six innings, allowing three runs and six hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out two.

Hendricks gave up three runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Miami shortstop Xavier Edwards exited the game after the second because of lower back discomfort. Edwards singled in his at-bat to lead off the first and stole second. He then took his position in the second inning but was pinch hit for by Vidal Brujan when his turn came up again in the third.

ROSTER MOVES

Before the game, the Cubs recalled infielder Luis Vazquez from Triple-A Iowa and designated infielder David Bote for assignment. They also claimed right-handed pitcher Gavin Hollowell off waivers from Arizona and optioned him to Iowa.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Cubs: LHP Jordan Wicks (oblique) threw a bullpen session on Friday.

Marlins: LHP Braxton Garrett (left forearm flexor strain) and LHP Ryan Weathers (left index finger strain) threw their second bullpen sessions on Friday. . LHP Josh Simpson (left elbow ulnar neuritis) will have his second rehab outing with Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.

LHP Shota Imanaga (9-3, 3.11) gets the start for the Cubs in the second game of the series on Saturday, while RHP Valente Bellozo (2-1, 2.45) starts for the Marlins.
