Zero Confirms New Live Album, ‘Naught Again’, Shares Track Featuring Intro By Robert Hunter [Listen]

Bay Area institution and jam forefathers  Zero  have detailed plans for a new live album,  Naught Again . Available digitally on May 20th via Omnivore Recordings , the 13-track document captures a legendary run of shows at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall  in 1992.

Recorded during Zero’s October 14th–16th, 1992 run at the famed San Francisco venue,  Naught Again  highlights a pivotal juncture in the Steve Kimock / Greg Anton  fronted group. After 12 years of existing as an instrumental ensemble—born from the ashes of  Keith  and  Donna Jean Godchaux ‘s  Heart of Gold Band  who played only one performance days before Keith’s untimely death in 1980—Zero added lyrics to its songs. This run served as the band’s showcase of its new material, with words written by the  Grateful Dead  lyricist  Robert Hunter  and sung by  Judge Murphy .

In addition to the new music,  Naught Again  captures a rotating lineup of luminaries including Martin Fierro on tenor saxophone; Pete Sears on organ, piano, and backup vocals; Nicky Hopkins on piano; Vince Welnick on piano and vocals; and John Kahn , Bobby Vega , plus Liam Hanrahan on bass. In conjunction with the album announcement, Zero shared a live cut of “End of the World Blues”. Before the band starts up, Hunter offers Zero a glowing introduction, telling audiences that the band’s music will be sent into space to communicate with intelligent life forms.

“Zero can put the whammy on the crowd,” Hunter said of the band. “I’ve seen a lot of crowds in my life, but they can do something that I’ve never seen before.”

Naught Again  is newly mixed by  Emmy -nominated  Brian Risner  from the original multi-track tapes recorded by the Dead’s  Dan Healy  and  Don Pearson . Recordings from this run were previously released in 1995 as  Chance In A Million , with  Naught Again  displaying another set. The album is out digitally and 2-CD on May 20th, with the 2-LP edition available on October 14th, one night before the band’s 30th-anniversary show at The Fillmore  in San Francisco.

Live reviews

Zero 7 is one of the coolest British duo trip hop artist bands that has ever surfaced the face of the earth. They have a very unique and attractive musical style that I highly enjoy. I was really looking forward to going to their concert when I heard that they would be playing close to my home.

I especially wanted to hear them perform their hit song "Destiny" because that is my favorite. To my lucky surprise they most certainly did. This is one of my favorite songs because it blends both keyboards and also guitars to form a very cool trip hop style of song.

This is one of the most unique aspects of this duo because they blend things in their musical style that is not evident in many other similar artists that perform songs for a living. The crowd was also enjoying the performances because they were doing a great job on the stage.

There was no theatrics, but just the perfect blend of instruments and singing. The sound engineers must have tweaked the system very well because the music was perfectly balanced, not too loud and not too soft, but just deep enough in our ears to enjoy the pleasures at hand.

Visiting the 9/11 Memorial in New York City

TripSavvy / Winifred Lao

9/11 Memorial

National september 11 memorial museum, 9/11 tribute museum, guided tours, getting there, things to do nearby, 9/11 memorial & museum.

The World Trade Center site is an important place for those who want to pay tribute to the lives lost in the events of 9/11 and gain some perspective regarding that fateful day. The site in lower Manhattan includes an 8-acre memorial plaza dedicated to both the victims and survivors of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and Feb. 26, 1993.

The 9/11 Memorial opened on Sep. 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of the attacks. There was a ceremony for victims' families followed by an official opening for the general public the next day.

The 9/11 Memorial includes the names of the nearly 3,000 victims of the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It also contains the names of the six victims who died in February 1993 after a terrorist bombing at the World Trade Center.

The twin reflecting pools—with the victims' names inscribed on surrounding bronze panels and the country's largest artificial waterfalls cascading down the sides—sit on the original site of the Twin Towers. Surrounding it is a plaza with a grove of nearly 400 North American swamp white oak trees. It is also home to a special Callery pear tree, known as the Survivor Tree , because it flourished again after the 9/11 attacks left it burned and broken.

The memorial site is open to the public with no admission charge. Early morning usually provides the best chance for some peace before the full cacophony of city sounds intrudes. The crowds typically thin out in the evening, and after dark, the water cascading into the reflecting pools turns into a shimmering curtain. The victims' inscriptions appear to be carved in gold.

The 9/11 Memorial Museum opened to the public on May 21, 2014. The museum collection includes more than 23,000 images, 500 hours of video, and 10,000 artifacts. The atrium entrance to the 9/11 Memorial Museum houses two tridents from the steel facade of WTC 1 (the North Tower) that you can see without paying museum admission.

The historical exhibitions cover the events of 9/11 and also explore the global mood leading up to the events of that day and their ongoing significance. The memorial exhibition displays portrait photographs of the 2,977 people who lost their lives that day, with an interactive feature that lets you learn more about the individuals. In Foundation Hall, you can see a wall from the foundation of one of the towers in addition to a 36-foot-tall steel column still covered with the missing posters placed there in the days following the disaster. Rebirth at Ground Zero, an immersive film that follows the rise of the new World Trade Center, also has a permanent home at the museum.

Visitors spend an average of two hours at the museum. Family members of victims enter for free, while visitors can pre-order tickets online or buy them onsite.

The September 11th Families' Association put together the 9/11 Tribute Museum to help those looking to learn about 9/11 with those who survived the event. The displays feature firsthand accounts from survivors and victims' family members, as well as artifacts from the site, many on loan from the families of those lost on 9/11. Since the Tribute Museum opened in 2006, family members, survivors, first responders, and Manhattan residents have been sharing their personal stories on walking tours and in the museum's galleries.

A tour is a good option for those seeking guidance while exploring the WTC site and Ground Zero. You can choose between guided and self-guided tours, making it easier to get oriented and maximizing your time on the grounds.

  • Tribute WTC 9/11 Walking Tours : Organized by the nonprofit September 11th Families' Association, these 75-minute tours are led by people who have been directly affected by the events of 9/11. The tour may not be appropriate for visitors under 10 years old.
  • Heroes of the World Trade Center Tour : Uncle Sam's New York Tours offers a 2-hour walking tour of the area, including a visit to St. Paul's Chapel, which served as a shelter for the city's rescue personnel during the events of 9/11.

The World Trade Center site is located in lower Manhattan, bound by Vesey Street on the north, Liberty Street on the south, Church Street on the east, and the West Side Highway. You can access 12 subway lines and PATH trains from two convenient transportation hubs near the World Trade Center site.

Lower Manhattan contains many historical sites, including Battery Park, the Ellis Island ferry, and the Statue of Liberty . Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange anchor New York City's Financial District, and the famed Brooklyn Bridge, one of the country's oldest and most scenic roadway bridges, spans the East River to connect the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Famous chefs and restaurateurs such as Daniel Boulud, Wolfgang Puck, and Danny Meyer operate locations in lower Manhattan, where you can also find city stalwarts such as Delmonico's, P.J. Clarke's, and Nobu.

Review: In ‘June Zero,’ There Are Many Ways to See the Past

Jake Paltrow’s film braids three fictional stories around the 1962 execution of Adolf Eichmann, the Nazi official and war criminal.

  • Share full article

A man in a vest and white shirt stands outside next to a boy holding a lollipop.

By Nicolas Rapold

In 1960, Israeli agents smuggled the Nazi official Adolf Eichmann from Buenos Aires to Jerusalem to stand trial for his role in the Holocaust. Rather than focus on the operation, or on Eichmann’s notorious defense , “June Zero” thoughtfully braids three stories that relate to the events around Eichmann’s execution by hanging in 1962.

Jake Paltrow’s film, which premiered at festivals in 2022, might sound like an exercise in hagiography: Drawing on actual accounts, it’s framed by the tale of David, a plucky Israeli teenager who finds himself involved in Eichmann’s fate. But the shifting story, written by Paltrow and Tom Shoval, complicates the act of commemoration and dwells on the moral quandaries and uncomfortable resonances that result from the events.

David (Noam Ovadia, a nervy newcomer) is pushed to work in a factory after trouble in school. His boss, Shlomi (Tzahi Grad), a brutal former soldier, is secretly custom-building an oven for the government to cremate Eichmann’s remains, and their plan is played in the movie for unease as much as for suspense.

At the same time, Eichmann’s guard in jail, Haim (Yoav Levi), nearly goes mad from his assignment to protect the Nazi. The spotlight then leaps to Poland, where a tour guide (Tom Hagi), a Holocaust survivor, spars with the trip organizer (Joy Rieger), weighing the necessary rituals of remembrance against the risks of being trapped by the past.

Concluding with David’s role in Eichmann’s disposal, “June Zero” sticks to its characters’ specific experiences of these events. But the resourceful narrative, with some surprising grace notes, tends to invite questioning and reflection.

June Zero Not rated. In Hebrew and Spanish, with subtitles. Running time: 1 hour 45 minutes. In theaters.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce proves to be Taylor Swift's No. 1 fan based on viral video from Dublin Eras Tour show

T ravis Kelce doesn't want to miss a second of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. And he also wants to be able to relive the magical moments forever.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end arrived a little late to Taylor's third and final show in Dublin, Ireland on Sunday night after attending the wedding of his teammate in Los Angeles over the weekend.

And he made it right in time for his favorite era (1989). Plus he headed down by the stage once towards the end of the singer's show. While she was in her Midnights era, Kelce took out his phone and started recording Taylor.

He was even being compared to Scott Swift, Taylor's father.

It was a move that he actually got made fun of a month earlier while at Swift's show in Paris, France in May when he attended his first show since Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department , was released. And during one of the songs, Travis was caught filming her with the flash on.

Back in May, fans quickly took to social media, trolling him for this "boomer" move. And during their New Heights podcast, Jason also had some fun with it.

“You got caught pulling an Ed Kelce move here, taking a video with your flash on," Jason said the following week. "What are you doing Trav? You’re supposed to be better than this.”

However, Travis had zero regrets.

“The settings on the camera, if it’s dark, it’s going to automatically put the flash on," Travis responded. "I don’t understand, I was just trying to get some good video, some good memories. So I don’t give a damn."

But all in all, Jason thinks it was the right move.

"You probably got some good videos," the Philadelphia Eagles legend said. "Flash makes a big difference."

Travis wasn't even aware people were making fun of him for it.

"Yeah it was the best," he said. "Did I get clowned for that?"

Travis Kelce is very proud

After Sunday night's show, the two were walking off with the fans screaming and cheering for Swift, Kelce ran a little ahead and showed just how proud he is of the singer.

He was also encouraging the crowd to cheer even louder for Swift after her three and a half hour performance.

Taylor Swift's reaction to seeing Travis Kelce

Swift couldn't hide her excitement on stage on Sunday night when she saw Kelce arrive to her show.

The tight end arrived a little late to Taylor Swift's third and final show in Dublin, Ireland on Sunday night. And despite the huge number of screaming fans, she immediately noticed the Kansas City Chiefs tight end when he walked right into the VIP tent.

Here is the full video from the moment:

Some fans even think that Travis might have surprised the singer based on her reaction.

Zenless Zone Zero hands-on preview: Plenty of reasons to get excited

Marco wutz | jun 30, 2024.

zero in tour

Discussions around Zenless Zone Zero, HoYoverse’s upcoming urban fantasy action RPG, have always been a little mixed in the run-up to launch due to one of the game’s defining features – the so-called TV gameplay. Many parts of the game, such as the main story and the roguelike mode Hollow Zero, require you to investigate dungeons, which are represented as a sort of gameboard with TV-shaped tiles. These are filled with abstract representations of enemies as well as events and, of course, the player’s party.

For the developers, it’s a convenient way to present Hollow exploration without having to craft 3D environments for each dungeon, including costly animations for all the potential events that can happen. For players, it provides a change of pace from the rapid combat of the game as well as a thematic connection to the protagonists, who view the Hollows in pretty much the same way.

However, for many beta testers this TV gameplay was a little too different from the combat and took up too much time and space – and because everything on the internet is about hyperbole, Zenless Zone Zero was naturally regarded as being doomed on arrival due to this one aspect.

Zenless Zone Zero screenshot showing the TV boards.

Overblown internet discourse aside, the feedback was serious enough for the developers to take drastic measures and substantially reduce the amount of TV gameplay, which was already very apparent in the third and final closed beta test a few weeks ago. Even more recently, I was able to get some additional hands-on experience with the game alongside interviewing its producer, Zhenyu Li , and this confirmed the trajectory away from the TV gameplay – in some parts.

The TV gameplay is still a core part of the game when it comes to Hollow Zero and the initial chapters of the main story – though critics of the system will be happy to know that you now accelerate animations and dialog in this mode, substantially improving the gameplay flow.

All side missions in the game have been split into Combat and Exploration Commissions, with the first category having been completely separated from any TV gameplay – you hop in, get to fight immediately, and are done. There are also Rally Commissions, which are longer Combat Commissions taking place in not a single stage, but a series of connected 3D stages. These may be a model for how the future of the game looks like, but for launch these will provide you with a series of timed combat challenges without much of a break.

It’s a solution that may not make everyone completely happy – as is the nature of a compromise – but should allow both critics and fans of the system to find more than enough satisfaction and enjoyment in the game. I count myself among those who actually like the TV gameplay and the way the feedback has been handled and implemented is pretty fair for everyone, I think – even I’m happy about the acceleration function and the fact that there is a choice to focus on battles when you’re in the mood for them. It’s a win-win all around.

What completely blindsided me compared to the final closed beta was the amount of additional content the developers held in reserve for launch – different types of combat challenges, more accessible areas of the city to explore in-between Commissions, the depth of interactions with the playable Agents, an overhaul of the ways in which to access different features, and more.

A lot of this was shown off during the latest livestream the developers did, so I suggest you take a look at that, if you’re interested.

In terms of pure gameplay, the build I got to play during the press tour wasn’t all too different from the latest beta build – it’s just that the game’s scope massively expanded all of a sudden.

One thing everyone who played the game at some point can agree on is that its rapid combat felt absolutely amazing and that the game’s presentation was immaculate in every sense. Since the preview build gave me access to some of the advanced enemies and areas, I can only confirm that things get better the deeper you get into it. Some of the later boss fights feel incredible.

There is this duo of ballet dancer Ethereals with synchronized moves that’ll make you feel like you’re Neo from the Matrix, repeatedly dodging lunges and shots in slow motion before getting closer for a counter. Both of them have separate health bars and you need to deplete both at the same time or in short succession to actually win the fight, otherwise they revive indefinitely.

This enemy also had some of the best soundtrack I’ve heard so far in the game – and everyone having played a HoYoverse game knows that their OSTs are of incredible quality.

In short: Days ahead of release, there are plenty more reasons to get excited about Zenless Zone Zero, because HoYoverse is on course to cement itself as one of the most consistently great developers in the industry with this one.

If you’re hyped for the game, check out the Zenless Zone Zero release time and 1.0 banners ahead of launch.

Hello, Proxies! Greetings from the Zenless Zone Zero dev team. I’m Zhenyu Li, the producer of Zenless Zone Zero. After four years of development, three rounds of closed beta tests, and countless improvements, I’m thrilled that Zenless Zone Zero is officially launching July 4 on PS5! Hereby, I would like to share the most up-to-date game content with you in this blog post.

Alluring narrative with distinctive characters

Zenless Zone Zero is a new urban fantasy ARPG by Hoyoverse, in which a calamity called Hollows – an abnormal spherical dimension that appears out of thin air and swallows everything it touches – destroys modern society. New Eridu, the last remaining metropolis, has risen against the odds amidst this destructive catastrophe and become the remnant of contemporary civilization. In the game, players assume the role of Proxy, accompanied by unique characters to explore Hollows, combat enemies, complete commissions, and reveal the mysteries behind New Eridu.

Despite the post-apocalyptic setting, the world of Zenless Zone Zero is filled with fascinating stories and dynamic characters. After encountering the odd-job agency Cunning Hares and the remarkable industrial group Belobog Heavy Industries in early chapters, you can unlock the Chapter 2 Interlude and Chapter 3 of the main story, in which Officer Zhu Yuan makes her official debut and members from Victoria Housekeeping disclose their true colors.

On top of that, new characters Lucy and Piper from a faction in the outer ring of New Eridu known as Sons of Calydon are also prepared to join you in exploring the menacing Hollows as playable agents. Moreover, numerous newly designed Bangboos are under your command as companions with unique abilities in battle.

The bustling cityscape of New Eridu

In previous playtests, you may have seen Sixth Street, which is actually only a small part of New Eridu. In the global launch version, Lumina Square, the buzzing commercial district of New Eridu is ready for Proxies’ exploration. Strolling around the city, you will find adorable Bangboos in need of rescue, cargo trucks hidden in corners with various rewards and surprises awaiting.

As the adventure commences, the legendary Proxy named Phaethon has also expanded the video store Random Play’s second floor where you can rest in bed, play music, or customize the photo walls to transcribe precious memories along the journey.

Dynamic combat system

Catering to both new and veteran players of the action genre, Zenless Zone Zero strikes a balance between accessibility and complexity. The consolidation of combat mechanics including Chain Attacks, Perfect Assist, switching characters, etc., offers players an opportunity to unleash their creativity and immerse themselves in the fast-paced combat.

To satisfy players’ various preferences, newly implemented Combat Commissions allow combat-focused Proxies to dive in and start the battle right away. Meanwhile, avid action players can keep reinforcing their battle skills in combat challenges such as Hollow Zero and Shiyu Defense – find the Scott Outpost which overlooks the most massive and impactive Hollow existing in New Eridu to access them.

To celebrate the accomplishment of 40 million global sign-ups and to embrace the official launch of the game, we have prepared bountiful in-game rewards including up to 1600 Polychromes, 90 Master Tapes, 20 Encrypted Master Tapes, and 85 Boopons for global players. You can obtain all the rewards by advancing the in-game progress, participating in global launch activities, and experiencing numerous time-limited in-game events including Friendship Supervision and Watch Your Step.

Once again, as the launch date approaches, we want to express our sincere gratitude to all the players who’ve shown tremendous support and interest in Zenless Zone Zero. We can’t achieve any of this without you. Our joint journey begins when Zenless Zone Zero launches July 4 on PS5. Please stay tuned for more exciting details and stories we have conscientiously prepared for Proxies around the world. See you soon in New Eridu!
