Ed is the man!!! Friendly, always on time, knows Napa like the back of his hand, super pro driver! Highly recommend!

They were an hour late for my sister's wedding. I would say it was an honest misunderstanding, but I called they day before the wedding to confirm everything was good, and he said, "why are you calling, have you seen our reviews?" I said I just wanted to make sure, weddings have to be on schedule. He didn't confirm times or anything and just said of course everything will be fine. Well it wasn't. He offered me a free limo to make up for it. I would have rather had a refund, at least on the hour he missed, but a free limo was fine I guess. 2 months later, I called and asked about a free limo ride and he said that was only good for that day and now he can only offer me a discount. Thanks but no thanks.

I have to say, I was blown away by the level of service and luxury that our bus charter company provided on our bachelorette trip in Napa Valley. From the moment we stepped onto the brand new Mercedes Sprinter van, we knew we were in for a treat. The van was immaculate and well-appointed with comfortable seating, a top-notch sound system, and even a TV. Our driver, Edward, was the true star of the show, though. He was knowledgeable about the area and made great recommendations for tasting rooms and wineries that we may have missed. He was also incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Whether it was stopping for impromptu photo shoots or ensuring everyone had a drink in hand, our driver was always on top of things. I have been on many group trips before, but this experience was truly one for the books. The level of service, luxury, and overall experience was unmatched. I cannot recommend this bus charter company enough to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable trip in Napa Valley. Thanks to our incredible driver and the top-notch service, we will be talking about this trip for years to come.

Edward provided exceptional service to our group of 8. He picked us up in a nicely appointed Mercedes Sprinter van and welcomed us with a bottle of bubbles, and had bottled water available thru-out the day. He was professional and accommodating and went above and beyond. One particular example was we had left a winery where a special reserve bottle was purchased and while opening it in the van, the cork was found to be dried out. While we enjoyed our next winery, Edward ran back to the previous venue and swapped out the bottle for us. He was also flexible. At the end of our winery day we requested an extension to take us to dinner, which he readily accommodated. Edward made a great trip even more enjoyable and return visits to Napa will include A Limo Excursion Wine Tours.

Edward was fantastic!! He was our driver for the day for my birthday with 13 friends and he went above and beyond to be helpful. He was incredibly courteous and kind. He also did a great job taking some pictures of us-- best photos from the trip! Do yourself a favor, book with Edward for Napa.

Edward was great and our group loved him! The vehicle was clean, well stocked, and had a great sound system. After we would get back in the vehicle for our next destination, we noticed the waters had been restocked, the trash dumped, and the floor was cleaned. Our first day, we had to navigate some unfortunate road construction around the pick up location, and he was such a trooper. He even left the vehicle to meet us in the street to help get through the construction! By day 2, we were buddies. If we were running late to our next destination, either because of traffic, or our own issue, Edward would call ahead to keep the winery updated on our arrival time. It was a huge help and big relief to the type A personalities on the trip. I cannot recommend this company enough. If you are traveling anywhere in Sonoma or Napa, you will not be disappointed in the service. Very reasonably priced for a truly luxury travel experience. Thank you to Edward for making our trip memorable.

Let me just say, this business is just amazing. I had a large party of moms, and not only did they accommodate the last minute change of plans, they made our day so fun and amazing despite everything leading to the excursion. Mia was so professional and made our day so easy and accessible. She was also very flexible and easy going which is what I really appreciated even though the planning got stressful. She arrived to our pickup early and got to chat about the day. She also upgraded our bus which was the nicest thing anyone had done. I was messaging Edward and he answered any questions or changes I had and was VERY prompt on response. They went above and beyond! When we got to our destination she let me know the pickup time. I was also able to message her on any updates or anything that came up. Our drive back was so smooth and great. She also let us Bluetooth our music which was great! They provided waters, and also a bottle of sparkly which was so yummy! I would book them 10x over with this experience. Thank you so much Mia and everyone for making today happen!

What a wonderful way the see Napa wine country. Eric has some great suggestions on different wineries based upon our taste, and did not disappoint. Also he stopped at St. Helena and we were able to shop a bit. Fantastic day. We use Apex for airport transportation also, and they were very prompt, clean cars, nice conversation. One of the best experiences of my life. We set up this tour to celebrate my 60 birthday. We had six people in our group (all adults) and everyone had a great time. Mel was amazing!!! He was extremely knowledgeable about all the varietals and all the vineyards. Everything went off seamlessly. He arrived early to pick us up and everything went off without a hitch. We had a very tight schedule but he made everything work.

We have used Apex 3 (maybe 4?) times and every time was great! Each trip was for a day in wine country.. I honestly have never used any other car service so I have nothing to compare to but I don’t feel the need to try another service. First off, making a reservation with Nelli is super easy and she responds very promptly. Each time we have used Apex, the driver was always on time, pleasant and the cars always super clean! Our latest day trip in Napa was with Mel. He was super cool and chill.. kept us on time from winery to winery (or lunch), entertaining and friendly but not to the point where it was too much or annoying at all. We came to Napa/Sonoma for a couples trip and thankfully booked a stretch limo for two days to take us around. Bruce was amazing! Going wine tasting in Napa Valley was on my sister’s “bucket list”. She and a couple friends flew in from Illinois to go to Napa. Vines from over 100 NC wineries weave their way thru North Carolina and produce some of the best flavors that you’ll ever have the pleasure of sipping.  Experience NC wine country by touring some of the finest wineries in a luxury of the chauffeured limousine. You may select from one of the trails listed below or choose specific wineries you wish to visit; for more information about NC wineries please go to www.ncwine.org .

When planning your tour, keep in mind that each winery is unique in its own way and no two are alike.  At some wineries, visitors are invited to explore the extensive grounds and enjoy the beautiful views, while at others visitors are limited to a tasting room.  Throughout the year, wineries hold special events such as festivals, concerts, cooking demonstrations, etc.; some events are free to the public and some require a purchase of the ticket. Please note that actual wine tastings are organized and conducted by the vineyard’s employees, and not by AFA. Please refer to each winery’s website for up to date information and wine tasting fees.  We recommend you contact each vineyard to advise of your visit and to schedule a private tasting.

AFA provides a safe transportation option for you and your friends to visit local vineyards and sample wines. We offer a variety of vehicles ranging from 2 to 25 passenger capacity (sedans, SUV, limousines, shuttle and party buses). The length of the limousine rental time will depend on the pickup address and on the wineries you have selected to tour.  In general, we recommend you allocate 45 min to tour each winery.  However, the length of the stop might vary depending on the size of the group and the winery’s amenities.  Once you make a reservation, we will  map out the itinerary and advise if additional time is needed.

Smolensk – the stories of real Russia in English

Smolensk is one of the oldest Russian cities with marvelous history steeped with warriors’ glory, inspiring legends and unraveling the true history of Russia. First mentioned in the chronicles in 863 A.D. it grew into the big trading city in the Middle Ages but then the fate turned it to the warrior’s path.

Through centuries Smolensk had been bravely fighting against the troops of the Polish ruler Sigismund III Vasa, the French emperor Napoleon and the Nazis. The city was destroyed many times and always reborn from the ashes like an eternal phoenix that is depicted on the coat of arms of Smolensk.

Smolensk has got plenty of great monuments and historical sites that will leave no one untouched. The outstanding piece of architecture – the17-18th century Assumption cathedral strikes everyone with its beauty, richness. The pearl of the cathedral is the icon of the Smolensk Mother of God called “Hodegitria” that takes its origin from the Byzantium and influences the history of not only Smolensk but also Moscow and all of Russia.

The mighty 17th century Smolensk fortress wall gives you the stories of real braveness and glory of the soldiers and officers of different centuries, it inspires you imagination and it’s strengthening your spirit when you walk beside it.

Plenty of monuments of different epochs will open a great book of life in front of you, show rise and fall of the empires and the eternal beauty of Russia and its people.

If one wants to dive into the depths of the centuries Smolensk provides the opportunity to visit the unique churches of the 12th century that survived in our town and the Gnezdovo burial mounds archeological complex that used to be a big Viking settlement in the Middle Ages.

If you are interested in the WWII history you can find the “Hitler’s bunker” hidden in the forest near Smolensk and get to know the elk-blogger a precious gift from the famous Hermann Göring’s country house.

Visiting Smolensk you’ll learn that a lot of famous people of Russia and the world were born in Smolensk region. They are the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the founder of the Russian classical music Mikhail Glinka, the famous traveler Nikolai Przhevalsky, the sci-fi writer Isaac Azimov and ever the man who started the Checker motors corp. and the “yellow cab” brand Morris Markin.

If you travel to Moscow keep it in mind that Smolensk is easily accessible from the Belorussky Railway station by the everyday high speed train “Lastochka”. The journey to Smolensk will take you only four hours and I will be able to meet you at the station if you need it.

10 reasons to visit Smolensk

1. Pop into the Assumption Cathedral. It is almost 250 years old. The baroque pretentiousness of the wooden details of the interior here competes with the peculiar script of the icons. The artifacts of antiquity are kept here and the Smolensk Mother of God Icon called Hodegetria (The one who shows the way from the Greek) hovers above them.  The scientists have recently returned a surprisingly piercing look of its face from the depths of the centuries.

2. Climb the fortress wall. It is 418 years old and is huge (about 3 km out of 6 survived). There are almost no such huge walls left in Russia, the reconstructions have not been here for a long time, so everything breathes with antiquity. Large parts of the wall stretch outside the city center, it is very cool to walk and take great photos here.

3. Marvel at the most ancient Russian monuments. In Russia, one can count on one hand the regions and cities where there is Middle Ages architecture.. Everyone knows Novgorod, Suzdal, Vladimir, Staraya Ladoga, Pskov and … Smolensk often falls out of this row, and, meanwhile, there are three 12th century churches, which are highly valued by people who have seen even all the previous cities. As a bonus, we will go to hug the ancient ruins in the most unusual place.

4. Stay in Talashkino estate. 17 km from Smolensk there is a beautiful estate Talashkino, the estate of the Tenishevs – patrons of art. Prompt renaissance of Russian art started here at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries under the leadership of Princess Maria Tenisheva,. Composer Stravinsky, artists Malyutin, Vrubel, Roerich, Korovin worked here, unique pedagogical practices were introduced here, agriculture developed, and culture flourished. Talashkino’s iconic views are the fairy-tale house Teremok, which gave the name to the museum, and the Church of the Holy Spirit bearing a Nicholas Roerich mosaic above the entrance.

5. Make a discovery for yourself. Smolensk is known as a hero city for its role in the Second World War. Indeed, there is a lot of military history here, but in fact, you will find yourself in an amazing whirlpool of centuries, events, states and people that met on the territory of Smolensk in different centuries – X, XII, XV, XVII, XIX and XX and even in the XXI – we look to the future.

6. Paint underwater. The artist Natalya Strukova lives in Smolensk, who for many years has been painting exclusively at the bottom of various seas and will teach you how to do it. How many such artists can you name in Russia or in the world?

7. Try the most unusual gingerbread. In the city of Vyazma, Smolensk region, they make the most unusual gingerbread. It was brought to the table of Russian and English monarchs in the 17th and 20th centuries. It’s actually not quite gingerbread as we know it. It’s more of a Turkish delight but not really like it.

8. Go canyoning. Right in the center of Smolensk there are deep ravines, having descended to the bottom of which you are transported 10 thousand years ago. Walk along the Devil’s Moat – the valley of the Rachevka River, which is now being actively cleaned of garbage and landscaped by caring citizens, and you will have the opportunity to stumble over a two-hundred-year-old cannonball, find a source from which Napoleon drank water, breathe in the smell of Red Book plants, see rare insects and visit a real Round Table without the help of King Arthur. You can also personally take part in the Rachevka initiative and have a great time with the great people of Smolensk.

9. Turn off the main street to find yourself in a ravine, at the bottom of which a narrow cobblestone path twists around, a small flock of sheep appears from behind a corner, and a huge five-domed cathedral hovers above all this.

10. Warm up with nice coffee and tug at the dinosaur’s socks in a cafe that was born from a pot of cocoa with spices on one rainy night, listen to musicians from different countries or just stories about travels and Indians in potato beds.

And in Smolensk, you should visit the creative spaces “Shtab” and Sreda Space, where city activists gather to touch the best urban ideas.

It was great to be able to be there by ourselves and the monk that showed us around and Anton both were obviously very passionate about the monastery so you were able to understand much better what the various churches and icons meant to them The view from the bell tower was awesome even if the climb up took some faith! We organized that tour from Australia well ahead of time, planning to visit Zvenigorod with big group of extended family and friends with teens as part of our New Year trip to Moscow. The actual day was organized very good, taken into account mixed group of adults, born in USSR and kids, born in Australia. Anton organized our activities to be suitable for all of us. As adults, we were enjoyed country side during winter and Monastery's quietness and ability to jump to the cold "holy" water at one of the oldest Monasteries of Russia - Savva Storoghevskiy Man Monastery. That was the most amazing and nearly magical experience! Kids were enjoyed of snow and treats Anton provide for us, including buisquits and Sbiten'. We also visited very interesting Museum of Russian desserts and learn a lot about ancient russian sweets; have a look on our past in the Museum of USSR and bought some yammie things to enjoy later. Katyn Memorial Complex

In 2008 the Katyn Memorial Complex was opened at the site where in 1940 the NKVD murdered 4,241 Polish officers who were taken prisoner when the Soviet Union invaded Poland. Originally the Nazis were blamed for the crimes and only in 1990 did the USSR admit that the NKVD was responsible.  The site has become a national place of pilgrimage for many Polish people, even more so after the plane carrying Poland's delegation to the Katyn anniversary event crashed nearby in 2010 leaving 96 dead including Polish President Lech Kaczyński and his wife, senior Polish military officers, politicians and clergymen, as well as relatives of the victims of the Katyn Massacre.

The entrance into the memorial takes the form of a kurgan (burial mound), which also houses an exhibition centre. Beyond this is an example of the closed wagons used to transport prisoners and then a small square with arches separating the entrance into the Russian and Polish burial grounds.

Polish Section

The Polish section includes walls engraved with the names of victims and the execution sites marked with religious symbols. Also included are the graves of two Polish generals and an altar for religious services. Overall the complex serves as a poignant reminder of crimes committed during this terrible period of history.

Russian Section

It was not just Poles who were executed here by the NKVD - it is estimated that in addition to the Polish officers another 6,500 victims of Stalinist repression are buried here. The Russian section is simpler than the Polish section with the execution sites marked by fencing and Orthodox crosses.
