World Skateboarding Tour: Dubai Street 2024 - Preview, schedule, and how to watch the WST action live

Discover what you need to know about WST: Dubai Street 2024 event, taking place at the Dubai Harbour from 3-10 March. Livestream coverage of the Paris 2024 qualifying event will be available to watch on the Olympic Channel via Olympics.com and the official Olympics app for mobile devices. 

Street skateboarders from around the world are descending on the picturesque Dubai Habour in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to compete in the World Skateboarding Tour’s Dubai Street 2024 event from 3-10 March.

The World Skateboarding Tour (WST) forms a key part of the ‘Road to Paris’ for park and street skateboarders looking to compete at the Olympic Games and WST Dubai Street 2024 stop will mark a critical stage on that journey, following immediately after the WST Dubai Park event which concludes on Sunday 2nd March.

WST Dubai Street is the last chance for skaters to accrue points towards their Olympic World Skate Ranking (OWSR) before a cut is made - using those rankings - ahead of the second phase of qualification for the Paris 2024 Games, the Olympic Qualifying Series (OQS).

The OQS is a two-part competition series taking place in Shanghai (16-19 May) and Budapest (20-23 June) and will determine the final fields for Paris 2024 .

The 44 highest-placed eligible athletes per gender in the OWSR after Dubai will be invited to the OQS respecting the following principles:

• No more than six athletes per country per gender per event (respecting the order of the OWSR)
• At least one highest-placed athlete from each continent for the representation of all continents
• At least one highest-placed athlete who is a national of the Olympic Games 2024 host country France
• At least one highest-placed eligible athlete who is a national of the OQS host country, (People’s Republic of China and Hungary)
• At least one Universality places eligible athletes

The stakes, therefore, going into Dubai are high with spots in the next stage of qualification on the line.

WST Dubai Street 2024: World champs Oda Yumeka and Shirai Sora front the pack; no Nyjah Huston

With the Olympic Qualifying Series looming large, the race for precious Olympic World Skate Rankings points in Dubai is on and there are plenty of street skateboarders that are ready to step up and claim them.

In the men’s field , newly crowned world champion Shirai Sora will be hunting back-to-back World Skateboarding Tour wins after impressing the home crowd in December’s Championships.

The absence of OWSR number-one ranked Nyjah Huston and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Jagger Eaton makes the challenge a little easier for Shirai but he won’t be the only one looking to capitalise on the missing Americans.

France’s Aurelien Giraud is set to return to action after missing Tokyo and the former world champion knows he has a point to prove. After finishing in eighth place in the last two World Skate finals he has been working on his mental approach, as well as his trick bag, to get back to winning ways. Gustavo Ribeiro of Portugal is another who looks poised to strike have slipped to a rare 17th-place finish in Japan.

One skater all will be studying closely is Olympic champion Horigome Yuto . Though the superstar street skater sits seventh in the OWSR, he is currently behind three other Japanese riders. And while that might do for now, there is a maximum of three quota places per NOC per discipline for Paris meaning he must up his game.

Others that have been seeing their stocks soar, and are worth watching out for are Canada’s Cordano Russell , 20-year-old Netsuke Kairi of Japan, and Brazil’s Giovanni Vianna .

In the women’s division , the tussle for the top remains as unpredictable as ever.

Each of the five previous World Skate street events has produced a different winner and that pattern could stand to repeat itself with all the top names set to feature in Dubai.

Alongside the five previous winners - world champion Oda Yumeka , young gun Liz Akama, and Olympic medallists Nishiya Momiji, Rayssa Leal , and Nakayama Funa - sits Australia’s Chloe Covell , who has made the final at every World Skateboarding Tour event she has entered but has yet to win. With a string of prestigious tournament wins in the last six months to her name, could now be Covell’s time?

Sure to apply pressure on the top six will be a group of skateboarders including American Paige Heyn , 14-year-old Japanese skateboarder Yoshizawa Coco, and Brazil’s Gabi Mazetto, who have all pushed for top-eight finishes in previous events.

Pamela Rosa is set to miss the stop in Dubai.

Dubai's Thomas surges up the leaderboard at PGA Tour Americas Qualifying School

D ubai-born sensation Rayhan Thomas moved a step closer to securing playing privileges on the PGA Tour Americas after an impressive third round 66 at the Tour’s Qualifying School.

The 24-year-old, who only turned professional last week, carded nine birdies and hit 17 Greens in Regulation as he surged up the leaderboard to move into contention for one of the nine exemptions available for the upcoming North America Swing on the PGA Tour Americas.

The Indian is currently in a share of 13th after rounds of 71, 70 and 66 at Soboba Springs Golf Club, leaving him just one stroke outside the top nine and three strokes off the lead.

“This year my game has been on track and I’m excited about what is ahead of me,” said Thomas, who also had a bogey and double bogey in his third round.

“For my final round, I have to be aggressive, continue to attack the golf course and shoot low – it is very competitive out here and there is no room for safe golf.” 

Should Thomas earn status for the PGA Tour Americas, he will have to chance to qualify for next season’s Korn Ferry Tour, the feeder circuit to the PGA Tour, with the top ten golfers on the season-long Fortinet Cup receiving full status.

The top two finishers from the Latin America Swing and the top three finishers from the North American Swing, if they finish outside the top ten of the Fortinet Cup, will have conditional membership on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The fourth and final round of qualifying gets underway later today, with Thomas teeing off at 12.38 local time.

Rum Jungle announce extensive regional Aussie tour

Following shows in the United Kingdom and Europe, Rum Jungle are back in Australia for a whopping regional tour. 

The Newy based four piece will hit 22 cities across Australia, from Adelaide, the Gold Coast to Wagga, Townsville and Torquay.

The tour comes off the back of their latest single 'Did The Morning Let You Down' and their smash latest EP Hold Me In The Water. Following the EP, the band hit career highs selling out their biggest shows to date in capital cities and most recently in the UK.
