Discover Transylvania and the Balkans

Welcome to bmw motorcycle tours romania it is time to discover the #spiritofgs..

Put the crucifix away and discard that bulb of garlic – you won’t be needing them in today’s Transylvania, which blows away stereotypes faster than the flapping wings of a bat out of hell. Yes, horses and carts still rumble through the wooded countryside, but they’ll soon share the roads with “The Ultimate Riding Machine”.

Look past the ‘Count Dracula’ T-shirts and you’ll notice an ever-increasing number of art galleries, good value services, quality restaurants, epic nature and a lifetime BMW Motorcycle riding experience in Romania and the Balkans.

All about Romania motorcycle routes

Other need-to-know information about romania.

Romania may be stereotyped as slightly archaic compared to some of western Europe, but it is actually the seventh most populous member of the EU, with nearly 20 million citizens! The total area it comprises is 238,397 square kilometers, or a little less than half the size of France. The countryside is gorgeous, and quite expansive. In fact, it is one of the largest areas of undisturbed forest in all of Europe! You would be foolish to exclude Romania from Balkan motorcycle tours. Once you’ve experienced its charm and beauty, you might even rank it amongst the best global motorcycle tours!

The wonderful geography of Romania is obviously dominated by countryside, and the Carpathian Mountains and Danube River Delta are two features that are not to be missed. What could be better than carving through the twists and turns of 2,000m peaks and cruising amongst the fertile fields of the river delta? During your Romania motorcycle tours, you might even glimpse one of the brown bears, wolves, or hundreds of other unique species that inhabit the country.

While there are some regional differences in climate, much of the country is quite similar. There are four distinct seasons, with average summer temperatures in Bucharest around 28ºC and the southern parts of the country around 35ºC, and average winter temps dipping below 2ºC. Rainfall can average over 750mm in the high mountains, but is only around 600mm, on average, in Bucharest. Late spring through early fall would be the ideal times for any sort of Romania motorcycle tours.

Travel to, and entry into, Romania is quite easy for most citizens. Schengen country citizens, as well as U.S. and U.K. citizens can enter Romania without a visa and stay for up to 90 days. There are a total of 17 civilian airports throughout Romania, and 12 of those have regularly scheduled international flights.

Advice for Australians traveling abroad

According with Australian government the following advice are to be followed:

Before you go

  • Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
  • Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel.
  • Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
  • See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
  • Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.

  • Share your itinerary with friends or family members. Give them copies of your passport

Travel insurance

Holidays don't always go as planned. If you're going overseas, travel insurance is as important as a passport. Without it, you or your family could suffer financially if things go wrong. No matter who you are, where you're going and what you're doing, get insurance.

Travel insurance is especially important if you need medical assistance. Healthcare overseas can be very expensive. Most countries won't give you free care, or subsidies the cost of your care. You, or your insurer, must usually pay full price.

We start our adventure getting the eurotunnel to Calais and from there we ride to Reims via the disused MotoGP track with the pit stops and grandstand now part of the main road. The track was the second location of the Grand Prix, several Formula one races and the MotoGP. After trying to get our knees down in France we venture into Germany riding to Baden Baden and finally Oberammergau before heading into Austria.

Riding through the dramatic mountains and lakes of Austria we bed down in Hinterglemm for 2 nights where we have a day off to relax or to get back in the saddle for a couple of rideouts. Either venture up to the Eagles nest- Hitler’s summer retreat or take a dizzy ride on the Grossglockner high alpine road, the highest mountain pass in Austria! You can also visit the ice caves in Werfen with their underground glaciers, or for the more adventurous, you can hire a bike and spend a day mountain biking along and down the ski runs in the surrounding mountains, using the many cable cars for the uphill bits. We then leave Austria and make our way through two national parks in Hungary and after crossing the Danube journey into Romania and our overnight stop in Timisoara.

Billy, Magellan Guide

Nine countries in one tour, Dracula’s castle, mud volcanoes, bears and ‘the best road in the world’ this tour has it all. You will have the holiday of a lifetime!

Transfagarasan Highway

We ride east to visit Corvins castle and encounter some unlikely sand dunes that are 500 miles from the sea en route to our hotel near the Trans-Alpine highway. After a good night’s rest we ride through the Transylvanian Alps over the Devil’s Path, this incredible mountain range is also home to a third of the wild bears and wolves in continental Europe. We then take on the Transfagarasan highway a road hailed by Jeremy Clarkson as “one of the best roads in the world… like all of the bends of all of the racetracks in the world joined together” as we make our way to Brasov for a two night stay.

We have a day off to explore the medieval town of Brasov, or if you still want more saddle time you can take a rideout to the mud volcanoes in Berca or the bear sanctuary only half an hour away from the hotel. Leaving Brasov we ride north to the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (the real life inspiration for Dracula) and visit a working salt mine before continuing over beautiful mountains and onto Oradea on the Hungarian border.

adventure motorcycle tours romania

Visit Hitler’s Bavarian summer retreat

Leaving Romania we ride off the beaten track through forests and over the mountains into Hungary and its capital of Budapest where we have a well earned day off to explore. Whether it’s the famous hot springs, sampling the cultural food or simply wandering around absorbing this amazing city you’re interested in you’re in the right place for a fun filled day! We then ride on to Krakow one of the oldest cities in Poland via Slovakia and here we have another day off to explore the beautiful old town and pretty market square, have a baileys coffee in the Jewish quarter or visit Wawel Hill where in Polish folklore Smok Wawelski the dragon had his lair. Alternatively you can visit a salt mine deep enough to fit the Eiffel tower in or take an excursion to the memorial site at Auschwitz.

From Krakow we ride across Poland into the Czech Republic through the royal forest and back to Germany. Continuing our route west we ride to the town of Lahnstain on the Rhine with its many castles to our overnight stop before riding  our last leg towards Calais with a visit to the famous race track the Nurburgring thrown in for good measure.

Want a tour to really sink your teeth into? Then look no further we’ve got excitement, the best roads in the world, mythical creatures, gothic horror, WW2 history not to mention great company, delicious food and plenty of laughs!

Common questions about this trip

Can I get a different crossing on this trip?

Of course, many of our clients cross by ferry from further north. If you would like to do this and meet the group at the hotel on the first night just let us know in the comments section of your booking form and we will deduct the cost of the Eurotunnel crossing from your booking.

What will the weather be like on this tour?

The weather can of course be changeable but it will hopefully be nice and sunny with a chance of some rain at the higher elevations along the way. A sensible mix of vented kit and waterproofs with some base layers should cover all eventualities. Full kit and packing lists are supplied and we are happy to offer advice on packing for any of the trips.

Will I find this tour too tiring?

You shouldn’t do no, we design all of our trips to be accessible to riders of all abilities and include plenty of days off the bike as part of this. These longer trips are no exception, we could easily make them 4 or 5 days shorter but we choose to add multiple rest days and avoid the motorways as much as possible so you can enjoy the ride and arrive at the hotels in the evening in good time to relax before dinner.

Can I do this tour in less time?

Yes, we also run this tour with a start point in Austria with hire included so you can fly straight in and avoid riding across Europe from the U.K. Check this itinerary out here .

Home » Prices and Trans-Siberian Tickets » Trans-Siberian Railway Prices

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.

Only in Moscow for a short time and want to get the most out of the city and have fun? Then a 3-hour bike tour in Moscow is what you need! You won’t hear much about Russian history or become an expert on Russian art, but you will experience all the rest of Russian culture! This tour gives you a unique perspective of a little bit of everything in 3 or 5 hours: must-see tourist sights, local hangouts, Russian food, a glimpse of the modern Moscow life, amazing photo opportunities, a bit of Russian history, and a lot of fun!

This is a great opportunity to cut the usual all day tour down to only 3 or 5 hours and get the most out of the city while having fun and being fit in the greatest locations around Moscow!

A bike trip is sure to capture your heart. It enables you to see the heart of Moscow within the Boulevard Ring and to explore some non-touristic areas of the city, to get an image of the city centre and to work out at the same time.

Our tours differ and depend on whether you are interested in city scenery or nature-like landscape. A variety of places in Moscow are great for riding a bike: these are large parks, yards with old mansions, and historical streets in the centre.

Let’s see what’s waiting for you!

Here are 4 suggested itineraries for a 3-hour tour:.

Moscow Bike Route #2

Pyatnitskaya street - the Tretyakov Gallery - Luzhkov Bridge - the Cathedral of Christ the Savior - the Gogolevsky Boulevard - the Nikitsky Boulevard - the Tverskoy boulevard - Teatralnaya street - the Bolshoi Theatre – the Kitai - Gorod - Red Square and GUM store - the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge

This route is the best one if you want to see the heart of Moscow. It goes right through the major places of interest and touches upon the most exciting and vibrant areas of Moscow such as part of the Boulevard Ring, which is absolutely loved by everyone.

Cozy streets of Zamoskvorechye will never leave you indifferent. This district has a long and vivid history and is full of old baroque houses along with Stalinist buildings. It includes three theatres, three museums and sixteen churches.

Back in the 18 th century Zamoskvorechye was known as a quiet, country-like land of single-storey houses and conservative businessmen. It remained country-like and is much more filled with business than before, as this area is just right in the city centre.

You’ll learn:

  • what was previously on the site of the Novokuznetskaya metro-station;
  • names of four abandoned metro stations and how to find these stations;
  • what is the oldest bridge among all the bridges in Moscow;
  • how old was Pavel Tretyakov when he decided to collect paintings, that are now exhibited in the Tretyakov gallery;
  • what does the real form of the Boulevard Ring in Moscow look like;
  • what tricks did the Russian government used to save the houses and buildings from bombing during the World War II;
  • what unofficial name the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky bridge has

Moscow Bike Route #3

View over the Kremlin - The Luzhkov Bridge –  The Strelka Institute –  The Muzeon Park –  The Gorky Park –  Neskuchny Garden –  Sparrow Hills –  The Luzhniki Stadium -  Novodevichy Convent – The Arbat Street – The Gogolevsky boulevard - The Cathedral of Christ the Savior –  The Bolotnaya Square

This route includes the most popular city-sights and goes along the Moskva-River. It starts with an observation point, from which you may enjoy the view over the Kremlin, and covers all the most beautiful green areas of Moscow. Historical sites are included into the route so you can feel the historical vibes of ancient Moscow.

  • where is hidden an island Moscow;
  • where in Moscow you can get printed music of the most sweet masterpieces like “Chocolate waltz” and “Cake-gallop” along with a box of chocolates of the 18 th century;

  • the place where the famous Olympic symbol – the Olympic Bear of the Olympics-1980 was flown from;

  • what was supposed to be on the site where the Cathedral of Christ the Savior is now;
  • why Moscow was nearly burnt down in the 15 th century and which role the Arbat street played in it.

Moscow Bike Route #4

Starting with wide area of the VDNKh, you are to learn interesting and fun facts about this spectacular part of Moscow.

  • why the number of golden statues at the fountain is more than the number of Soviet republics, although it is said to correspond them;
  • why one of the Stalin statues was called “matryoshka” (Russian doll);
