The Weeknd – Dawn FM album art

Dawn FM is the new album by Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd , released on January 7, 2022 by XO and Republic Records.

Robert Beatty did the artwork for the various collector’s editions as well as the accompanying single releases, and also provided the initial type treatments. The layouts were subsequently done in-house by the XO team.

The album title is shown as a combination of Klarissa – a freebie digitization of Titania (before 1906) – in three-dimensional lowercase letters, tightly spaced; and “FM” in caps from Shatter , embellished with a contour and airbrush-like chrome and highlight effects. The third font in use in Simplement , another freebie digitization, this time of a face called Cut-In , which like Shatter was originally issued by Letraset in 1973. It’s occasionally used for the artist’s name and additional titles, in all lowercase, on the records as well as on merch.

We expect that tickets to The Weeknd  will be in high demand, and to make the process fair for everyone you may be placed in a queue.

You will be assigned a random place in the queue once the onsale starts. Your place in the queue is not based on what time you entered the Waiting Room. We suggest entering the Waiting Room 15-30 minutes prior to the start of the Presale.

Once you get your spot in the queue, please do not refresh your browser as you will be pushed to the end of the line.

We will get you through the queue as quickly as possible, so please sit tight.

How will I receive tickets?

All tickets purchased through Ticketmaster are now digital, meaning you can easily access your tickets on your phone via the Ticketmaster app or mobile web browser via  Ticketmaster.com.au , add them straight to your phone’s ticket wallet, and share them with your friends and family.

What are the top tips to know before purchasing tickets

Ticketholders need a My Ticketmaster account to access  The Weeknd  tickets.  Sign up or sign in here .

Only purchase through Ticketmaster to guarantee you have a valid ticket for entry on event day.

Take an extra five minutes to carefully read through our ‘All You Need to Know’ article in detail to best prepare for ticket on sale.

Log into your Ticketmaster account and update your password if needed!

Get in early and ensure all your MyTicketmaster account details are up to date – from your password to your card details and your phone number.

Ticketmaster will regularly ask you to update your password to ensure the security of your account – you don’t want to get stuck having to change your password while the ticket timer is counting down during onsale as you can risk losing the incredible tickets you have secured.

Instead, now that you know you want to purchase tickets, log into your account and update your password today to ensure you are ready to nab those tickets.

Get to know Ticket Transfer so everyone has their own ticket

1. Open the Ticketmaster App

2. Tap on my events and select the event you want to Ticket Transfer

3. Tap ‘Transfer’ below the ticket you want to share (please note: you may have to wait a moment for the ‘Transfer’ button to load)

4. On the ‘Select Tickets To Transfer’ page, confirm the ticket you want to share (please note – you must Transfer each ticket individually)

5. Tap the ‘Transfer To’ button. Tap ‘Manually Enter A Recipient’ & enter your friend’s ‘First Name’, ‘Last Name’, and ‘Email Address or Mobile Number’

7. Your friend receives an email, asking them to accept the transferred tickets, and they can either login or create a new Ticketmaster account to accept.

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting The Weeknd tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

The Weeknd will bring his After Hours til Dawn tour to Australia in October 2024. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au.

The Weeknd will also make a donation of $500,000 and $1 million will be contributed by World Food Program USA to the fund. The tour marks the first concerts the Weeknd will play in support of his 2020 album “After Hours” and his recently released “Dawn FM.” According to the announcement, “the tour will see his most ambitious production to date reflecting the creative journey that continues to unfold for both these albums, creating worlds within worlds as we have all been watching unfold in various television performances, music videos and short films bringing these first two pieces of his trilogy to life.”

Trending on billboard.

These will be The Weeknd ’s first stadium shows in Australia and his first visit since 2017. Special guests Mike Dean and Chxrry22, along with Australian DJ and vocalist, Anna Lunoe, will join him on all 2024 Australian dates.

However, fans in Brisbane and New Zealand, who were included in the cancelled 2023 tour, will be disappointed to learn that these locations are not part of the 2024 itinerary.

According to a statement from the tour’s press release: “Due to schedule and logistical constraints, the ‘After Hours ‘Til Dawn’ tour will not be making its way to New Zealand or Brisbane in 2024 and there will be no further cities added.”

This decision has sparked backlash on social media, with fans expressing frustration over their shows being dropped from the 2024 run.

One commenter noted on Reddit , “Not sure what logistical circumstances they’re trying to blame for not coming to Brisbane or even NZ. Suncorp Stadium literally has no event booked in October other than the Travis Scott show at the end of the month.” Another added, “Apparently it’s more logical to fly to Australia, fly back to the USA, fly back to Australia and then fly back again.”

Before announcing the 2024 Australian dates, The Weeknd performed numerous sold-out shows across the United States as part of the After Hours Til Dawn tour.

The U.S. leg included notable performances at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where he fans with a setlist featuring hits from After Hours and Dawn FM .

For 2023 ticket holders, a special ‘ Past Purchaser Presale ‘ will be available, offering the first opportunity to secure tickets for the upcoming Australian tour dates.

The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour has been a global success, with over 60 sold-out stadium dates and more than 3 million attendees across North America, Europe, the U.K., and Latin America. The tour has also broken attendance records, including a two-night run at London Stadium that drew 160,000 fans.

In other recent news, earlier this month it was revealed The Weeknd will return to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood on Sept. 5 with The Weeknd: Nightmare Trilogy , an immersive haunted house experience featuring music by The Weeknd and Mike Dean.

It follows the success of his 2022 After Hours Nightmare attraction, inspired by his Billboard 200-topping album After Hours .

Program Notes

Introduction (Dawn on the Moskva River) to Khovantchina Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor This Midnight Hour Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks

Modest Mussorgsky 1839–1881

Introduction (Dawn on the Moskva River) to Khovantchina

Work composed: Mussorgsky worked on the opera Kovanshchina in 1873–74. The Prelude premiered in St. Petersburg on February 21, 1866 Most recent Oregon Symphony performance: Carlos Kalmar led the Oregon Symphony January 9–10, 2010 Instrumentation: 3 flutes (1 doubling piccolo), 2 oboes (1 doubling English horn), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, bass drum, bells, cymbals, snare drum, tambourine, tam-tam, triangle, piano, harp, and strings Estimated duration: 6.5 minutes

“I am pregnant with something and I am giving birth – and to what I am giving birth you will behold ...” Modest Mussorgsky wrote to his friend, critic Vladimir Stasov, in late June 1872. Mussorgsky didn’t reveal anything more about this gestational project at the time. When he died in  1881, Mussorgsky left behind the score to an almost-completed opera. Stasov would likely have been pleased, as he was the one who first told Mussorgsky the dramatic history of imperial rebellion and intrigue that inspired Khovanshchina (“The Khovansky Affair”).

At his death, Mussorgsky had essentially finished Khovanshchina in piano score, leaving only the orchestration. Both Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Dmitri Shostakovich subsequently  completed their own orchestrations. The Introduction, according to the composer “depicts dawn over the Moscow River, matins at cock crow, the patrol, and the taking down of the chains (on the city gates).” Mussorgsky uses a folk-like melody that begins in the winds and grows until it permeates the entire orchestra. As Mussorgsky varies and elaborates on this melody, we hear in the distance church bells summoning the faithful to morning Mass.

Sergei Rachmaninoff 1873–1943

Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor

Work composed: 1908–09. Dedicated to pianist Josef Hofmann Most recent Oregon Symphony performance: Guest conductor Nicholas Carter led the Oregon Symphony with soloist Marc-André Hamelin on October 8–10, 2016 Instrumentation: solo piano, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, snare drum, and strings. Estimated duration: 44 minutes

Sergei Rachmaninoff began working on the Third Piano Concerto in the summer of 1908 at his family’s estate at Oneg, and rushed to complete it in time for his first tour of North America, in the fall of 1909. On the voyage to the United States, Rachmaninoff had no access to a piano, so he took along a cardboard keyboard to practice and memorize the demanding solo part.

After the premiere, and a second performance in New York led by Gustav Mahler, Rachmaninoff arrived in Boston. He made such a magnificent impression that he was asked to assume the post of Music Director for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, an offer he declined. Despite his success, Rachmaninoff heartily disliked America. In a letter to his cousin Rachmaninoff wrote, “In this accursed country you’re surrounded by nothing but Americans and their ‘business,’ ‘business’  they are forever doing, clutching you from all sides and driving you on. Everyone is nice and kind to me, but I am horribly bored by the whole thing, and I feel that my character has been quite ruined here.” Lonely and homesick, Rachmaninoff returned to Russia in February 1910.

The extraordinary virtuosic and musical demands of the Third Concerto make it one the most challenging works in the repertoire. The soloist plays almost constantly throughout, and must combine ear-popping virtuosity with a chamber musician’s collaborative ability to listen and blend into the orchestra.

When Rachmaninoff discussed the thematic origins of the Third Concerto, he denied any specific influences. “It is borrowed neither from folk song forms nor from church services. It simply ‘wrote itself,’” he stated about the primary melody, in which the pianist enters, subdued, underneath the orchestra. “If I had any plan in composing this theme, I was thinking only of sound. I wanted to ‘sing’ the melody on the piano, as a singer would sing it – and to find a suitable orchestral accompaniment, or rather one that would not muffle this singing.” Rachmaninoff no doubt sincerely believed the theme was his creation, but every composer’s music derives from a collection of influences assimilated, often unconsciously, over the course of a lifetime. With regard to the melody in question, scholars have found strikingly similar music in monastic chants from the Russian Orthodox liturgy. which Rachmaninoff heard regularly as a child.

The Intermezzo and Finale are played without pause, an abrupt transition from the reflective melancholy of the second movement to the ferocious virtuosity of the Finale.

Anna Clyne b. 1980

This Midnight Hour

Work composed: 2015 World premiere: Enrique Mazzola led the Orchestre national d’Ile de France on November 13, 2015 First Oregon Symphony performance Instrumentation: piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, bass drum, crotales, suspended cymbal, tam-tam, vibraphone, and strings Estimated duration: 12 minutes

Described as a “composer of uncommon gifts and unusual methods” in a New York Times profile and as “fearless” by npr, Grammy-nominated composer Anna Clyne is one of the most acclaimed and in-demand composers of her generation, often embarking on collaborations with innovative choreographers, visual artists, filmmakers, and musicians. Clyne’s versatile style focuses on acoustic and electro-acoustic music, combining resonant soundscapes with propelling textures that weave, morph, and collide in dramatic explosions. Clyne’s music also reflects her eclectic influences from other art forms, including poetry, dance, visual arts, and film.

Music Director Laureate Carlos Kalmar and the Oregon Symphony performed Clyne’s Stride for string orchestra as part of the symphony’s new digital series Carlos@18, which can be found on the Symphony’s website at: orsymphony.org/studio125 .

“The opening to This Midnight Hour is inspired by the character and power of the lower strings of L’Orchestre national d’Île de France,” writes Clyne. “From here, it draws inspiration from two poems. Whilst it is not intended to depict a specific narrative, my intention is that it will  evoke a visual journey for the listener.” The poems, a brief verse by Juan Ramón Jiménez (“The music: a naked woman running mad through the pure night!”) and Charles Baudelaire’s Harmonie du soir (Evening Harmony) capture the ethereal otherness of deepest night. Clyne drew upon Baudelaire’s reference to “a melancholic waltz” which she recreates – “slightly warped,” as she describes it – in This Midnight Hour . Jiménez’ madwoman image inspired Clyne’s choice of fast, accelerating rhythms and thickly condensed textures. The overall character of the music “ranges from playful to more ominous, to full of energy. It also ranges from passages that are almost like chamber music, to a full orchestral tutti.”

Richard Strauss 1864–1949

Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks

Work composed: Strauss initially conceived Till Eulenspiegel as an opera, but eventually recast his musical ideas into a symphonic tone poem. He finished it on May 6, 1895. Most recent Oregon Symphony performance: Guest conductor Michael Francis led the Oregon Symphony on October 11–13, 2014 Instrumentation: piccolo, 3 flutes, 3 oboes, English horn, 2 clarinets, E-flat clarinet, bass clarinet, 3 bassoons, contrabassoon, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, ratchet, snare drum, triangle, and strings. Estimated duration: 16 minutes

In his tone poems Don Juan and Death and Transfiguration , Richard Strauss cemented his reputation as an innovator. Yet artistic pioneers often pay a price  for their forward-looking vision. So it was with Strauss: conservative critics and audiences traditional notions of music clashed with his modern ideas. In Strauss’ efforts to justify himself in the eyes of his detractors, Strauss saw the character of Till Eulenspiegel – a prankster who cheerfully thumbs his nose at all conventions – as his own alter ego.

The fictional character Till Eulenspiegel first appeared in a collection of humorous stories published in Germany in 1511. The tales describe Till’s escapades, as  he hoodwinks various authority figures. As a result of his constant pranks, Till is always one step ahead of the law,  until he is finally caught and executed for blasphemy. The name Eulenspiegel (pronounced OY-len-shpee-gle) literally means “owl’s mirror,” and refers to an old German proverb: “One sees one’s own faults no more clearly than an owl sees its own ugliness in a looking glass.” Both sly and clueless, Till is oblivious to his own failings, even as he simultaneously embodies humanity’s shortcomings.

Conductor Franz Wüllner, who led the premiere, asked Strauss to explain the underlying story. Strauss initially refused, saying, “I really cannot provide a program for Eulenspiegel. Any words into which  I might put the thoughts that the several incidents suggested to me would hardly suffice; they might even offend. Let me leave it, therefore, to my listeners to crack the hard nut the Rogue has offered them. By way of helping them to a better understanding, it seems enough to point out the two Eulenspiegel motifs, which, in the most diverse disguises, moods, and situations, pervade the whole up to the catastrophe when, after being condemned to death, Till is strung up on the gibbet. For the rest, let them guess.”

Strauss eventually wrote a detailed outline of the music in a friend’s copy of the score; his comments begin with “Once upon a time there was a knavish fool ...” over a graceful introductory melody for strings; Till’s signature tune for solo horn follows. Strauss goes on to detail Till’s adventures: he rides horseback through the marketplace, creating pandemonium, and escapes into a mouse-hole. Till then disguises himself as a priest, “oozing unction and morality,” and later flirts  with a village maiden who rejects him. Stung, Till “vows revenge on the whole human race” (horns bleating angrily). He then encounters some Philistines, who expound on various deep theories (bassoons and bass clarinet). Till confounds them with his own ridiculous theories and hurries away, mocking them by whistling a lighthearted tune. This faux sermonizing (derisive statements from the orchestra, punctuated by Till’s theme), leads to Till’s trial. The snare drum represents the inescapable force of law, which finds Till guilty. Despite his conviction, Till continues to scorn the proceedings until the noose chokes off his last breath (a shrill, derisive exclamation by solo clarinet). The music concludes with the return of the “once upon a time” theme. All is as it was, although Till’s irrepressible spirit transcends death and remains alive – and at large – to this day.
