Aitana Safari Park

Located high in the Aitana mountain range, near the village of Sella, and approximately 33km inland from Benidorm lays the acclaimed Aitana Safari Park. Following a set trail there are many animals to see, including lions, tigers, elephants, buffalo, zebra, and giraffe.

There is also a childrens zoo for the little ones to enjoy, and the Daktari Park which is a nursery used to raise the youngest animals. Other facilities include a picnic area, and restaurant specialising in local foods.

The park can be reached within an hours drive from Alicante. Take the A7 toll road or the N-332 coastal road to Villajoyosa, and then head towards La Sella, passing through Orxeta. The park is approximately 15 km after La Sella near the town of Penaguila.

Safari Park Aitana is set in an inland area of 1,500,000 metres square on Spain's beautiful Costa Blanca. Since it first opened its gates in 1975 founders Juan Sevila and Maria Van Soldt have continued to expand both the land and animal inhabitants and have endeavoured to keep the environment as natural as possible, giving visitors a true safari experience.

The park is now home to animals from 5 different continents and visitors have a choice of various tour options including the unique experience of being an animal keeper for the day. The park also has an on-site restaurant and terrace area offering a selection of drinks, homemade meals, salads and a snack menu.

Safari Park Aitana Animals

Africa – The birthplace of the original safari and home to some truly wonderful animals, this area of Safari Park Aitana brings in the crowds where you will see elephant, hippo, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, camel, cute Gibraltar monkeys and the king of all beasts, the proud lion.

America – This area of the park is home to some of north and south America's most loved animals including the cute chinchilla, beautifully coloured milk snake, Mackenzie wolf, roamer of the vast plains the bison and the most elusive of the south American animals, the mighty jaguar.

Australia – Often seen flying in huge flocks, the cockatiel is one of Australia's most well known birds and visitors to the park can enjoy their wonderful colours as well as getting close up to the ever inquisitive, and sometimes hilarious emu.

Asia – This area of the park is home to most visitors favourite animal, the fearsome tiger as well as the cute Vietnamese pig, Indian peafowl and black buck.

Europe – Here visitors have the chance to view one of Europe's most rare creatures the lynx boreal, playful red squirrels, ponies, horses, fallow deer and nimble footed bighorn sheep.

Safari Park Aitana Tour Options

Self Drive Tour – This tour allows visitors to drive around the park at their leisure using their own vehicle, giving the freedom to view which animals you choose.

Private Tour – A tour of the park with a group of friends or family in a park's vehicle accompanied by your own guide.

Mixed Group Tour – Also using a park's vehicle and accompanied by a guide, this is similar to the private tour except for the fact that groups are made up of mixed visitors.

VIP Tour – This package includes a tour of the park accompanied by a guide, a visit to the nearby charming Guadalest village and a meal in the park's restaurant.

Keeper For The Day – This is a wonderful experience where visitors accompany one of the park's keepers, learning more about the animals, their day to day care and getting up close during feeding time.

Aitana Safari Park

Just under an hour's drive inland from Benidorm is the vast Aitana Safari Park. Set in a wilderness area of 1,500,000 metres square, the park is home to animals, birds and reptiles from 5 different continents. Founded by dedicated conservationists Juan Sevila and Maria Van Soldt, the project started in 1973 and first opened its gates in 1975. Since the arrival of the park's first rescued ‘wild' animal, Beggy the goat, it has continued to grow into the excellent wildlife park that it is today. The park has an on-site restaurant and pleasant terrace area where you can choose from a selection of drinks, homemade meals, salads and a snack menu.

Australia – Watch the antics of Australia's cousin to the ostrich, the emu and enjoy the colours of the pretty cockatiels.

Aitana safari park

Aitana Safari Park is a great way to spend a day and is brilliant fun for all the family. Situated in Penáguila 1.020 meters above the sea level, it provides incredible views of the mountain ranges that form the Sierra da Aitana.

Aitana Safari park is a great place to visit which will entertain you and your whole family. Here you can take a safari around the grounds and try to spot the many different species of animal that call this home. The staff are warm and friendly and very knowledgeable and will be able to give you advice on where best to spot animals and how to approach them. The park is situated on a breath-taking mountain plateau so even if for nothing else, go for the spectacular views –they’re worth it!

Sometimes you don’t have to travel all that far to enjoy the thrills of an African safari. Safari Aitana, in Penàguila , is a safari park nestled in one of the most verdant areas of Alicante where you can climb aboard a 4x4 and live an authentic safari experience. 

Elephants, llamas, giraffes and lions are just some of the impressive animals that inhabitat Safari Aitana , an extensive natural area where the animals live in semi-freedom . 

The park has a long history. Back in 1973, a married couple decided to make a change to their lives and dedicate all their time to animals . It was Maria Van Soldt’s idea to build a safari where the animals could roam large spaces and enjoy the fresh air. 

Though the years have passed, the original spirit of the park is still very much alive. Every day, families come along to experience it, travelling to the African savannah within a beautiful part of the province of Alicante and climbing aboard a 4x4 to look out for incredible animal species. 

If you want to get really close to the animals, you can choose to take a private tour . The park rangers and guides will take care of your safety as you move nearer to the wildlife and even take part in feeding. A unique and exclusive experience with a qualified member of staff by your side at all times . 

At Safari Aitana you can watch and listen to animals from Europe, Africa, Asia, America and Australia to find out how they live. And if you want, you can help by sponsoring one of the animals. Throughout the year, you’ll contribute to the animal’s care and maintenance as well as receive updates about how it is doing.

In the mountains of the province of Alicante is the Aitana Safari Park, where animals live in the wild, and people can watch them from a close distance.

The park contains animals from all over the world. Here you can see a lynx and a llama, a goose and a marabou stork, an ordinary pig and a capybara, a deer and an exotic bull Watussi, a giraffe and an elephant. All the animals have a habitat close to their own, so they feel completely at ease. On the territory of 1.5 million sq. m, there are forests, rocks, savannah areas, reservoirs — and life is in full swing everywhere.

A relatively large area of ​​the park is divided into two parts. One can only be reached by car — it will be a route about 7 km long, during which you will visit large animals. Children are delighted to watch a hippopotamus swimming in the lake, a tiger basking in the sun after dinner, antelopes, zebras and camels grazing together.

If you use the services of a safari park guide in Alicante, you can be present while feeding the animals, and if you're lucky, treat the elephant with your carrots. Note that hazardous animals are still behind the fence.

But not all animals need to hide. Part of the park is reserved for hiking, where you can get acquainted with small curious animals - squirrels, raccoons, chinchillas, and parrots. There are also larger animals with a friendly disposition: goats, donkeys, and ponies. It is allowed to take pictures with them, especially the brave ones who can choose not a pony or a parrot for a photo but a snake.

Fresh air usually stimulates our appetite You can dine at the restaurant in the park, take food with you, and have a picnic. A landscaped area in the shade of trees has been created for picnics.

A unique offer is to become an employee of Safari Aitana for one day. This is an opportunity to learn about how animals are cared for, how food is prepared for them and how the safety of animals and people in the park is ensured. Children under 18 years old can only join the programme with a parent. Bookings must be made at least three days in advance. The service is available for an additional fee.

Safari Aitana is perfect for a day trip out in the wilderness to see the animals in their natural habitat from a safe distance inside a car.

If you’re at the park at 11 o’clock, children can witness the animals being fed and can come out of the cars to watch them up close. You will have an opportunity to spot a giraffe, zebra, tiger, and other majestic animals.

A restaurant and a playground are accessible within the park and a private guide is recommended to hear the individual stories of each species.

Safari Aitana

Aitana safari is an animal reserve, open to the public, in penáguila (alicante)..

The reserve occupies over 1 500 000 m² and some of the most emblematic animals from the five continents such as lions, tigers, lynx, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, bison or llamas roam its terrain.

Visit the park as if in an authentic African safari, by car, observing the animals close up in their natural habitats. A fun way to learn more about them and take great photos.

Visitors may choose between group guided tours, free tours, private tours and VIP excursions.

To wrap up the experience the park has an authentic African restaurant, a great place to rest and recharge batteries after the day’s adventures.
