6 easy day trips from Bristol to Cotswolds (without a car)

By Author Lucy Dodsworth

Posted on Last updated: 7 February 2024

Bristol is frequently voted one of Europe’s most livable cities, and visitors are also drawn in by its historic harbourside, colourful street art and independent shops and restaurants. But its location just west of the Cotswolds also means you can use it as a base for taking day trips to the region.

The easiest way to explore the Cotswolds from Bristol is by car, but you can also do it by public transport . You do need to choose the right day trip destinations though, as bus services are limited (particularly on Sundays) and don’t run that often or connect to each other very well.

6 easy day trips from Bristol to Cotswolds (without a car)

Like nearby Bath , Bristol has limited bus services to the Cotswolds. So you’ll usually have to catch a train first and then change onto a bus. The destinations you can reach from Bristol are concentrated in the southern Cotswolds, so if you want to visit places like Chipping Campden, Broadway and Bourton-on-the-Water, it may be better to stay in Cheltenham or Moreton-in-Marsh instead.

But we have chosen six destinations which you can easily visit on a day trip from Bristol to Cotswolds, without needing to coordinate multiple connections. All take under 90 minutes to reach (and most are less than an hour) so you can easily get there and back from Bristol in a day.

The historic village of Lacock in Wiltshire

If your favourite destination in the Cotswolds isn’t featured, we’ve also listed other Cotswold towns and villages which you can reach using public transport from Bristol at the end of the post. These do have limited services and more complicated connections, so may be better for longer trips.

For links to all bus timetables, see our guide to the Cotswolds by public transport . And if you’re travelling by car instead, our town and village guides give details of parking.

6 easy day trips from Bristol to Cotswolds without a car

The city of Bath is packed full of historic charm, and its proximity to Bristol makes it an easy day trip. Take a stroll through Bath’s UNESCO World Heritage Site city centre to admire the Royal Crescent, Circle, Bath Abbey and Pulteney Bridge. You can also go back in time at the Roman Baths – or try out the waters yourself with a soak in the rooftop pool at the Thermae Bath Spa.

Bath has a great selection of museums, including the Jane Austen Centre, dedicated to the author who lived in Bath in the 1800s. She’s also celebrated with an annual festival and Regency Parade each September. You can also indulge in a traditional afternoon tea at the Pump Rooms.

How to get there : Bath is 13 miles southeast of Bristol. They’re connected by rail and bus, with frequent direct trains from Bristol Temple Meads to Bath Spa taking 12 minutes. Or the First Bus X39 between Bristol and Bath runs up to every 15 minutes daily, and takes 50 minutes.

2. Bradford on Avon

Riverside Bradford on Avon is just outside the official Cotswolds boundary, but shares the region’s scenic charms. Call in for a cuppa at the pretty Bridge Tea Rooms. And explore its historic buildings, which range from a medieval tithe barn to Saxon churches and 18th-century mills.

You can walk, cycle, kayak or take a boat trip along the River Avon or Kennet and Avon Canal. Keen walkers could also combine Bradford on Avon and Bath in a day, as there’s a 7.5-mile walk between them which runs along the canal and up over Claverton Down for panoramic views.

How to get there : Bradford on Avon is 20 miles southeast of Bristol. Direct trains from Bristol Temple Meads to Bradford on Avon take around 30 minutes and run every day.

3. Castle Combe

The village of Castle Combe is often rated as one of the prettiest villages in England, with its 15th-century buildings and the packhouse bridge across the By Brook. There’s also the Market Cross and 13th-century St Andrew’s Church, which is home to a rare medieval faceless clock.

You can visit the Manor House Hotel to play a round of golf or have lunch in their Michelin-starred restaurant, or watch cars and bikes in action at the Castle Combe Race Circuit. Or why not head out into the surrounding countryside on a 6.2-mile walk through woodland to the village of Ford.

How to get there : Castle Combe is 21 miles east of Bristol. To get there, take a direct train from Bristol Temple Meads to Chippenham (15 minutes). Then catch the Faresaver 95/95A bus from Chippenham train or bus station to Castle Combe, which takes around 20 minutes. Note that buses to Castle Combe only run around once every two hours (and not on Sundays).

Castle Combe in the Cotswolds

Lovely Lacock is another popular day trip from Bristol to Cotswolds (though technically it lies just east of the region). Lacock was taken over by the National Trust in 1944, and has kept an unspoilt feel, with half-timbered buildings, honesty shops, a 14th-century tithe barn and cosy pubs.

Lacock Abbey was built in the 13th century as a nunnery and later became a country house (with its cloisters appearing as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films ). It’s surrounded by beautiful grounds, and you can also visit the Fox Talbot Museum to learn about the early days of photography.

How to get there : Lacock is 31 miles east of Bristol. Take the train to Chippenham (15 minutes) then catch the Faresaver X34 bus from Chippenham train or bus station to Lacock (13 minutes). Buses run twice an hour on weekdays and hourly on Saturdays, with no buses on Sundays.

5. Tetbury & Westonbirt

Tetbury is known for its antique shops, and is a great place to browse for vintage treasures. There’s also the cobbled Chipping Steps, which are lined with medieval weavers’ cottages, the Gothic Church of St Mary, and walks along the Tetbury Trail from the Goods Shed Arts Centre.

Or you can visit Westonbirt Arboretum, which is on the same bus route as Tetbury. This 600-acre garden has one of the best collections of trees and shrubs in Europe. There’s something to see year-round, from rhododendrons in springtime to autumn leaves and Christmas lights .

How to get there : Tetbury is 27 miles northeast of Bristol. First take a direct train from Bristol Temple Meads to Yate (20 minutes). Then change onto the Stagecoach 620 bus which runs from Yate Shopping Centre to Old Sodbury (12 minutes), where it meets the Stagecoach 69 bus to Westonbirt (15 minutes) and Tetbury (30 minutes). But there are no buses on Sundays.

6. Malmesbury

The hilltop town of Malmesbury is England’s oldest borough, with a history dating back over 1000 years. The first Malmesbury Abbey was built in the 7th century, and you can visit the ruins of the later 12th-century building. Part of the abbey is also still in use as Malmesbury’s parish church.

There are also the neighbouring Abbey House Gardens to explore. And you can find out more about the town’s history at the Athelstan Museum, which also has a painting of the abbey by JMW Turner on display. And have lunch at a historic inn like the Old Bell, said to be England’s oldest hotel.

How to get there : Malmesbury is 27 miles northeast of Bristol. You can either take a train to Chippenham (11 minutes) then the Coachstyle 99 bus to Malmesbury (35 minutes), which runs hourly except on Sundays. Or take a train to Yate (25 minutes) and the Coachstyle 41 bus to Malmesbury (50 minutes), which runs three–four times a day excluding Sundays.

Castle Coombe - cotswold tours from Bristol

One of the closest cotswold villages to Bristol is Castle Coombe . One of the best examples of a late medieval Market Cross exists in the centre of the village. Guests can appreciate this monument along with many others on our day tour.

St Andrews Church in Castle Coombe

The church was originally founded in the 13th century. However, our tour guide will point out that the majority of the church is from the 15th Century coinciding with the prosperous period of wool and local cloth.

Famous films set in Castle Coombe

Like other Cotswold Villages the sheer beauty of Castle Coombe has attracted film makers. The original Dr. Doolittle film with Rex Harrison was filmed here. The Wolfman and Stardust has also used the village as a back drop. Most recently Stephen Speilberg’s War Horse used the main street setting.

Our private tours let you explore the lovely Market Town of Tetbury. It has 1300 years of recorded history. In 681 Tetta’s Monastery was mentioned in a charter by King Ethelred of Mercia. The town centre is dominated by the pillared Market House built in 1655.

Tetbury Market House

The wool wealth of Tetbury was significant – many of the stunning woolmerchants houses are just as they were 300 years ago. Indeed it can be argued that the buildings are some of the finest found on any tours of the Cotswolds.

Cirencester – the Capital of the Cotswolds

Cirencester is a must see place for any Cotswolds Tours. From the delightful Market place you can admire the Parish Church of St John the Baptist. Also of note is the south porch built around 1490; it is one of the most elaborately decorated porches and gleams in the sunlight having been recently restored.

Guided walks in Cirencester

One of the benefits of private tours with us is that we have the time to walk and guide you along the historic Cirencester streets. The 300 year old Yew hedge screening Lord Bathurst’s Manor is a sight indeed! Then there is the colourful Cecily Hill leading up to the Cirencester Park. Admiring the medieval buildings as we walk down Coxwell Street is well worthwhile.

  • Freedom210523 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Magic all the way Recently, I returned from my holidays; it was a memorable experience. We were a small group of eight who bonded well during the trip, and Barny, our skipper, made everything perfect! ‘Barny the Bard’ is full of stories; we heard about Lorna Doone, Tom Faggus and his strawberry mare Winnie, Jamaica Inn, Mary Anning, and not to forget, the temperamental cows, among others. We enjoyed great music on our way, too; got loads of information on local celebrated singers, bands and their performances. We enjoyed Cornish dancing at the Front pub in Falmouth; some of us even joined in with the local dancers and John! Kudos to you all! Those of us too timid to explore or exhibit our ‘hidden talents’ tapped our feet to the lively music. This trip was not about going from point A to B, but truly a unique, culturally enriching experience. We could connect to the significance, cultural history and vibe of the places that we visited, thanks to Barny. My visit to the Minack theatre was a tranquil therapeutic treat sitting on the steps, looking out into the ocean, so were the wild, enticing moors and Haytor. Lyme Regis invigorated the Jane Austen connection to my core. The villages on the way and those we visited were picturesque and enchanting. Even the weather was exceptionally gracious! We had a couple of senior members in our group, and Barny took utmost care to make the trip comfortable and enjoyable for them. All I can suggest is that Rabbie’s can make it a weeklong trip to allow time around the Devon cliffs. It was a great experience and will remain vivid in our memories. I would highly recommend this trip to my friends and colleagues. Read more Written 19 September 2023

Our guide, Alan, was exceptional and entertained us throughout the day with interesting stories and funny anecdotes related to the places we visited. We had rather miserable weather but Alan did his best to compensate with his sense of humour and by making sure we got warm and dry quickly each time we got back in the minibus. We had the right amount of time at each stop to wander around, Alan gave us clear guidance and information what to check out. He also accompanied us in one of the places and pointed out everything worth seeing and all the interesting details. I would highly recommend Rabbie's tours based on my experience. Everything a tour guide should be; knowledgeable (local), extremely accommodating, jokes for days, tips for what to look for and see on free time and clear instructions for rendezvous to meet back at the coach. The English countryside is absolutely picturesque. Looking forward to my next Rabbies tour. Read more Written February 25, 2024

Our guide Iggy was really enthousiastic and showed us many beautiful sights. The Cotswolds villages (Lacock and Castle Comb) are really beautiful and its very special to see Stonehenge and Avebury. Almost doesn't get into Lacock because of floods, but Iggy did his best to find an alternative route into the village and we could see it after all! Read more Written February 18, 2024

  • mandymcnurse 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Stonehenge Stonehenge was fascinating. We stopped at 3 small villages on the way and stayed around 1 hour. The only pubs were packed and we couldn’t get anything to eat or drink. There was very little to pass the time of only 1 hour. We sat around and waiting to get back on the bus. I would suggest maybe 1 stop at a village and carry on. It was a long day. The guide was pleasant and funny telling many good stories of his travels and some history. Thank you. We enjoy the small group tours for many reasons: comfort, ability to go a bit off the beaten track, and the camaraderie with fellow travelers and the driver/guide. From along the southern coast of Wales out to St Davids and then back again through the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, we visited many incredible places. Our driver/guide Kate was a delight. She was one of the most friendly, knowledgeable, and interesting people you could ever meet! She was also a very skilled driver and could navigate tiny backroads while telling fascinating history and tales. Kate, thank you so much for making our trip so incredibly fun! Read more Written September 19, 2023

bristol to cotswolds tour

One of the United Kingdom’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Cotswolds is an Elysian jewel in the crown of England’s scenic countryside. Famous for its enchanting villages, idyllic rolling hills, and ancient buildings made of honey-colored limestone, it is one of the Isles’ most beloved treasures. If you are planning 2 to 3 days in the Cotswolds, use this Cotswolds itinerary to experience all the best this incredible region has to offer.

Table of Contents

How Many Days in the Cotswolds?

Although many of its constituents are small, exploring the Cotswolds region encompasses five counties and several towns and villages. So, as for how many days to spend in the Cotswolds, you could easily spend a week or more in the area without getting bored. Especially if you’d like to walk the Cotswold Way, a walking trail that winds itself through the entire region.

However, if you don’t have that luxury, it is quite possible to get a feel for the region and experience several of its highlights in a weekend break. Many people even visit via day trips from London or Birmingham, but this doesn’t give you much time to enjoy one of the area’s finest assets: its serene ambience.

2 days in the Cotswolds is preferable, although three days in the Cotswolds is better yet if you can manage.

The Cotswold town of Stow-on-the-Wold

Getting To & Around the Cotswolds

Located between Bristol and Oxford and just south of Birmingham, the Cotswolds region spans nearly 800 square miles. Like most of the U.K., it is connected via bus and train routes to nearby hubs, including London.

As its name denotes, the Cotswolds Line provides a straight shot between Oxford and Hereford and is linked to London Paddington. You can also take the Golden Valley Line that connects Swindon and Gloucester/Cheltenham Spa.

Yet another option is to ride a coach. The major operators, Oxford Bus Company and Oxford Tube offer direct routes from London, Birmingham, and Leeds.  You can view the latest train and bus schedules here.

However, as many villages and small towns are sparsely populated, service is limited within the region. While you can rely solely on public transport, consider hiring a car, especially if you have just two or three days in the Cotswolds.

To reduce the cost and your carbon footprint, you can always hire a car once you’ve arrived via bus or train. You can browse car rental options here.

If you embark on your Cotswolds road trip from London via car, you will take the M4, M5, and M40 motorways and travel about two-and-a-half hours. If you haven’t yet been and have some spare time, you can stop at Stonehenge to the south of Oxford to the north along the way.

The M5 motorway also connects the Cotswolds with Birmingham, a route that takes about an hour and a half by car. From Bristol , you will spend just over an hour on the M5.

2 to 3-Day Cotswolds Itinerary

Whether you’re slipping out of the city for a weekend countryside retreat or visiting the Cotswolds as part of a complete England or U.K. tour, this itinerary will guide you through an unforgettable two-to-three-day adventure.

Day 1 – Cheltenham, Hidcote Manor & Broadway

Cheltenham .

The first stop on many is Cheltenham. This 18th-century spa town is a convenient gateway to the region, with direct train links to London, Birmingham, and Bristol and public transit connections to several of the region’s villages.

It also has plenty to offer on its own, including a quiet, quaint High Street, the Wilson Museum and Art Gallery, and Sanford Parks Lido. There are also numerous festivals throughout the year, including the enormously popular horse racing event, the Cheltenham Festival.

Hidcote Manor Gardens

The Hidcote Manor Gardens are the epitome of an Arts and Crafts Garden, a formal style characterized by its melding of purpose with beauty.

One of the nation’s most stunning gardens, Hidcote features different outdoor “rooms,” each with distinct character, as well as colorful plants, exotic trees, topiary, fountains, and ponds.

Broadway Tower & Village

Cap off your first day in the Cotswolds with a stop in Broadway, a village whose name comes from its unusually broad High Street lined with numerous shops.

From the town center, walk to Broadway Tower, a small Gothic castle built in 1799 that served as William Morris’ countryside retreat. The second-highest point in the Cotswolds, it can be seen from the Welsh border on a clear day and is one of the best spots to catch the sunset.

Afterwards, grab dinner at The Broadway Indian Restaurant before packing it in for the day.

If you’ve still got time for some exploration, you could also opt to head to the nearby villages of Chipping Campden, Snowshill and Moreton-in-Marsh.

Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds

Day 2 – Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold & More

Bourton-on-the-water .

Start the second day of your Cotswolds road trip in one of the region’s most beloved locales. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds,’ is routinely voted one of England’s prettiest villages. Meander along the quaint streets and idyllic stone bridges crossing the River Windrush and streams.

Then, visit The Model Village, a 1/9th stone scale model for an alternate bird’s-eye view of the town. If you have time, stop by Greystones Nature Reserve, home to wildflower meadows, Iron Age ramparts and a replica Iron Age roundhouse, and an organic farm.

Lower & Upper Slaughter

Don’t be put off by their sinister-sounding names. The twin villages’ monikers come from the Old English word for a muddy or boggy place, “slough,” and belie their quaint characters.

Park in Lower Slaughter and visit Copse Hill Road. Voted the “most romantic street in Britain” in a poll for Google Street View, the road features traditional Cotswold architecture, gorgeous views, secluded getaways, fine restaurants and hotels, and a charming ambience.

Then, walk along the shallow Eye stream past rows of limestone cottages to the Old Mill. Although the mill is no longer functional, there has been a mill in this location since the Domesday Book was published in 1086. The converted building, with its original water wheel, is now a museum and craft shop with a café.

Next, visit Upper Slaughter, about a mile’s walk away past idyllic pastureland. The Eyford House has replaced a now-ruined Norman castle as the village’s focal point.

The manor house dates back to the 17th century and features Baroque details and a picturesque landscape. It is said the poet John Milton stayed here and was inspired to write Paradise Lost.

Upper Slaughter village

Stow-on-the-Wold

Stow-on-the-Wold is another of the Cotswolds’ most beloved and enchanting villages. Looking at photos of the Cotswolds, you will more than likely come upon the Great Yew in the yard of the medieval St. Edward’s Church.

Its iconic door looks like a portal to another realm, so much so it is thought to have inspired Tolkien’s Doors of Durin in the Lord of the Rings.

The village is also home to several boutiques and antiquarians and England’s oldest inn,  The Porch House , which has served shelter and sustenance for over 11 centuries.

Daylesford Organic

Next, head a few miles east to Daylesford Organic, a trendy, award-winning farm shop and café specializing in organic, sustainable local foods, including produce grown on-site, as well as an in-house butcher and creamery.

Check the calendar for upcoming events, like cooking and floristry classes. Before you go, grab a bite in the café or pick up some picnic supplies like salads, cheeses, and veggie tarts.

Winchcombe

Off the beaten path of the usual tourist route, Winchcombe is an excellent spot to escape the crowds in summer. It’s also an antique-lovers paradise, with numerous shops selling vintage and antique wares. This includes Winchcombe Antiques Centre, with its basement tearoom serving afternoon tea, warm beverages and cakes.

Winchcombe is also a haven for walkers and history buffs. If you’re one or both, take a hike from the village to Belas Knap, an ancient Neolithic Burial Ground, and Hailes Abbey, the remnants of a 13-century Cistercian Monastery.

Another must-visit is Sudeley Castle & Gardens. This 15th-century fortress, with its 10 gorgeous gardens, stands on the site of a former 12th-century castle and boasts connections to the late royals Anne Boleyn and Katherine Parr, two of Henry VIII’s wives.

Sudeley Castle & Gardens

Day 3 – Hop Between Iconic Cotswolds Villages

Castle combe .

Located at the Southern edge of the Cotswolds, an hour south of Cheltenham by car, Castle Combe is a bit of a trek but well worthwhile.

One of the country’s most picturesque villages, it is also one of the Cotswolds’ most famous, having starred in films like Doctor Thorne , Doctor Dolittle , Robin Hood , Stardust , War Horse , and Poirot .

Check out St. Andrew’s Church, initially erected in the 13th century with later additions and restorations. Then, for the perfect Insta-shot, stroll down from Market Place toward the river, where you’ll find the village’s iconic bridge.

If the weather is nice and you’re keen on a hike, consider taking the footpath trail from Market Place. Extending 5.5 miles, it connects the village with serene woodland, providing stunning views along the way.

Afterwards, stop by the Old Rectory Tea Room for fresh-baked scones before heading to the next stop.

Castle Combe

About 45 minutes north of Castle Combe is Stroud, a former industrial capital set against the stunning backdrop of the Five Valleys.

While you can still visit some of the town’s former mills, it’s now better known as a creative haven with a bohemian atmosphere and eclectic medley of independent cafes, cosy pubs, galleries, and antique shops. Stroud is also home to one of England’s most famous farmers’ markets.

If visiting on a Saturday morning, this is the perfect place to stock up on fresh, locally made eats for a picnic lunch before stopping by the Museum in the Park and strolling along the Cotswold Canals.

Painswick

Next up on your three days in the Cotswolds itinerary is Painswick, just a short 11-minute drive north from Stroud. Dubbed “The Queen of the Cotswolds,” this historic town was recently featured in the BBC’s The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling.

Stroll along the picturesque streets, including the deceptively named New Street, built in the 15th century, and the Church of St. Mary, built between the 14th and 16th centuries, with its yard of 99 yew trees. It’s rumored that every time a 100th is planted, it dies.

Next, pay a visit to the 18th-century Painswick Rococo Garden, the only one of its kind in the country.

Burford

Next, head about 45 minutes east to Burford, once the site of a fortified ford during the early Middle Ages and later the center of the medieval wool trade. Deemed the southern gateway to the Cotswolds, this beautiful town on the river Windrush remains a crossroads.

High Street offers rows of independent shops, teashops, and cafes to explore with its aesthetically pleasing architecture and quaint character.

Burford’s High Street is also home to England’s oldest pharmacy, which opened its doors in 1734, and the Tolsey Museum, which highlights the town’s history.

Walk to the top of High Street and take in the view of the rows of centuries-old buildings sweeping down to the River Windrush, straddled by an impressive three-arched medieval bridge.

Stone Cottages in Burford

Bibury

Bibury is one of the region’s most stunning villages in the Cotswolds, coined “the most beautiful village in England” by William Morris.

Once a humble mill town, it’s now also one of its most famous, featured in films like Stardust and Bridget Jones’ Diary and attracting droves of tourists every year. If you’re visiting in summer, I strongly recommend arriving early (e.g., before 10 a.m.) or coming later in the day to avoid the crowds.

Take a stroll along Arlington Row on Awkward Hill, a picturesque lane of 17th-century weaver’s cottages so treasured and emblematic it’s featured on U.K. passports. Afterwards, venture a little further from the center to explore country roads and get a taste of local life.

Cirencester

Cirencester, a beautiful market town, is called the Capital of the Cotswolds. In the Roman era, it was Britain’s second-largest city behind London. In the 6th century, however, the Saxons destroyed and rebuilt it.

Fortunately, in the medieval era, the town came into its own once more finding prosperity as a major wool hub. Today, the small municipality with its quintessential Cotswold architecture and ancient remnants is the Cotswolds’ largest town.

Must-see attractions include the Corinium Museum with Roman, Norman, and Saxon artefacts and the Parish of St. John Baptist.

  • Venture through Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Spend the night in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare

Departing Bristol, your journey begins with a scenic drive through what is considered the birthplace of British tourism and the birthplace of the industrial revolution. We’re talking about Wye Valley, of course, which is dubbed an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You’ll love the views of this region as we head towards Tintern Abbey on the banks of River Wye. There’s some fascinating history behind this now-roofless national icon which was founded in 1131. Afterwards you make your way to the market town of Ross-on-Wye where you have free time to explore and grab a bite to eat.

Then it’s time to head to Broadway. No, we’re not talking about seeing a stage production, we’re talking about the picturesque village in the Cotswolds. This is a great time for a spot of shopping, or simply wander and enjoy the town before heading to Stratford-upon-Avon, your base for the night. You arrive in the birthplace of Shakespeare in the mid-afternoon so there’s still some time to explore and sort yourself out for dinner.

You’re spoilt for choice in Stratford-upon-Avon. Perhaps you’ll explore the Schoolroom and Guildhall, where Shakespeare was first inspired by literature and theatre. Or perhaps you’ll visit his childhood home and hear tales of his family life.

  • Stroll around Chipping Campden, one of the most beautiful tourist spots in the UK
  • Enjoy your time exploring the sites and history of Oxford

You’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into a movie today. Your first destination is considered one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the UK. Wander around the picturesque village of Chipping Campden before heading to Bourton-on-the-Water. Quite a literal name, as this village boasts the beautiful River Windrush running through it, and is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds.

You continue onto Oxford, your main stop for the day. Famously known for its university, the city of Oxford has an interesting history and plenty of things to do and see. You can learn about some of it at the Ashmolean Museum, Britain’s oldest public museum. If museums aren’t your thing, there’s always Oxford Castle & Prison, a tour of some of the colleges around town, and even several Harry Potter locations to spot.

Enjoy a relaxing drive back through some of England’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the perfect way to end your day as you head to Bristol where your tour ends in the early evening.

You stay one night in Stratford-upon-Avon.

How can I book accommodation?

Accommodation is not included in the price of your tour. To book accommodation, there are two options: either Rabbie’s Tours can book it for you, or you can book your own. For information on how to do this, please see the ‘Accommodation’ tab on FAQ page HERE .

Alternatively, please email us your questions at [email protected] or call us on +44(0)131 226 3133.

Information you can find on the FAQ page, under the ‘Accommodation’ tab : types of accommodation, room types, the booking process, getting to and from your accommodation, and cancellation terms.

How much will the accommodation cost?

We book accommodation with third-party providers on your behalf and each property sets their own rates. Rates vary considerably depending on the accommodation standard, facilities, location, and local demand. We therefore can’t tell you exactly how much your accommodation will cost until your request has been allocated to a specific property.

As a guide, you can expect to pay the following prices, per person per night :

NOTE: Prices quoted are for guidance only and may be higher on some occasions, especially for last-minute bookings and when demand is high (E.g. peak season, weekends, holidays, special events etc)

Breakfast will be included unless otherwise noted. The type of breakfast provided will vary from place to place so you may receive either a full cooked breakfast, a continental style breakfast (E.g., toast, fruit, cereal), or a packed breakfast bag or tray (E.g., porridge pot, fruit, granola bar).

Do you offer hotel pickups in the departure cities?

The UK and Ireland's historic city centres are full of narrow streets and winding roads. So, to speed up your departure, we only pick up from our central meeting points. What's more is leaving the city using the most direct route also reduces the carbon footprint of our tours.

Is there parking close to the departure point?

We don't recommend bringing your car into the centre of our departure cities. It can be hard to find parking, and there are excellent public transportation services.

When should I get to the departure point?

Arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Due to waiting restrictions, we can't wait for you if you're late.

What happens if I'm late or miss the tour?

If you're late for your tour, our cancellation policy applies. 100% charges are applicable, and you will not be entitled to a refund or alternative.

What are your cancellation policies?

For one-day tours: You'll receive a full refund if you cancel 24 hours or more before the tour departure

For tours of between two and nine days: You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 15 or more days before the tour departure

For tours of 10 or more days: You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 21 or more days before the tour departure

For all European packaged tours: You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 42 days before the tour departure.

If you cancel inside these notice periods, full charges will apply and no refunds will be issued.

To cancel your booking, email [email protected] as soon as possible. The effective date of cancellation will be the date we receive written confirmation from you.

Can Itineraries change?

Your tour will always follow the itinerary as closely as possible. Your driver-guide will keep you up to date on the road, and we'll try to get in touch about any large changes prior to your departure.

Can I pre-book a specific seat?

Due to logistical reasons, we're unable to let you pre-book a seat on the bus. But our comfortable 16-seat mini-coaches have huge windows. So, you'll always get a good view.

Are there toilets on the bus?

Unfortunately, we have no on-board toilet facilities, but you'll have regular comfort breaks.

How do you cater for people with accessibility needs?

We aim to accommodate everyone. To read more information on how we do this, click here to go to our accessibility guide.

Do you take children on your tours?

We regret we don't carry children under the age of five on our scheduled tours.

You can ask us about the tours we recommend for younger children. And if your child is less than 1.35m tall, you should let us know, so we can provide them with a suitable booster seat.

How much time do I get off the bus?

We want you to enjoy Britain and Ireland. And we believe the best way to do this is to get you off the mini-coach and out exploring. So, we give you plenty of time to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins.

Why do you exclude visitor attractions?

We exclude visitor attractions in your tour price because it lets you travel your way. It means you can pamper yourself with a luxury lunch or skip an attraction whenever you feel like it.

Do we need to bring our own lunch?

You don't need to. We stop in small towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.

Should I tip the driver-guide?

Let's be honest, our driver-guides would never refuse a cheeky bonus. But it's up to you, and the amount is entirely at your discretion.

What about travel insurance?

We advise you take out travel insurance.

What is ABTOT?

You're protected by ABTOT when you chose to let us reserve your accommodation on a multi-day tour. This means you can claim back anything you've paid us if we become bankrupt. Read our terms and conditions for more information.

I have more questions, who can help me?
