Think of it as a runway to the rest of the country. The live performance spotlighting fan favorites from the TV female impersonator competition is set for Friday, July 8, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Drag-a-licious devotees can look forward to seeing popular faux-femmes Kameron Michaels, Rosé, Asia O’Hara and Jaida Essence Hall, as well as Season 14 finalists Angeria Paris VanMicheals, Daya Betty and Jorgeous.

RuPaul's Drag Race favorites Kameron Michaels, Rosé, Asia O'Hara and Jaida Essence Hall, plus Season 14 finalists Angeria Paris VanMicheals, Daya Betty and Jorgeous, are expected to perform when the tour launches in Fort Lauderdale.

The upcoming three-month tour throughout the United States and Canada comes on the high heels of the European leg, which started in Copenhagen in April and ended in Madrid in June.

“They went wild,” says Jon Norris from Voss Events, the tour’s producer. “I don’t know if it’s pent-up energy or what. We haven’t been there in two years. Usually we are on a yearly tour. They sold out immediately.”

The production is very different from other RuPaul-related touring performances.

“The show was [created] for very big arenas 5,000 to 10,000 capacity,” Norris explains. “It has a coliseum look and feel, instead of something for a traditional musical theater venue.”

current drag queen tours

One of the performers, Kameron Michaels, joined the European tour in its last two weeks.

“I’m walking into work with performers … where I had to learn the closing choreography number in about 30 minutes the day of the first show,” Michaels recalls. “That was the craziest thing for me. People don’t know, [but when they] watch Beyoncé in a performance, that tour has been in the studio rehearsing for months.

“The thing we have with our shows are two rehearsals and then we’re onstage. We don’t have the time for all those rehearsals.”

Michaels appeared in Season 10 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in 2018. Since then, Michaels (aka Dane Young) has appeared in the Las Vegas residency show “RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!” and several official touring drag shows.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel chatted with Michaels recently while the drag artist was resting at his new home in Las Vegas. See excerpts from the question-and-answer session below.

Q: What makes this show unique from previous tours?

A: I would say the performers and the cast and the dancers, the tech, everyone involved really comes together to tell this really fun, new story. The last one we did was planetary, every performer represented a different planet. This time … I don’t want to give too much away. We are entering a time machine. Asia O’Hara, she is this time machine captain trying to get back to Season 10 to avoid her butterfly catastrophe (in a crucial finale lip-sync battle, O’Hara gimmick of releasing live butterflies famously fell flat), but we keep landing in these different time periods. Each queen represents a different time period that Asia lands in. It’s a drag show, but it’s not just a drag show. It’s telling a story. I really enjoy it.

Q: What did you learn from the Vegas residency that you’re applying to your stage appearances now?

A: Performing in front of a large audience more frequently helped me adjust the nerves. It doesn’t matter how seasoned a performer you are, the nerves come and go. My nerves just kind of walked out the window. Vegas really conditioned me like, “Oh, there’s celebrities in the audience, oh, RuPaul is in the front row because she wants to see how her show is going.” I just give 110% energy to every audience.

Q: How did you get your drag name?

A: I wish I had an interesting story about my drag name. My drag name is Kameron, an androgynous name, something not quite as feminine, could be a boy or girl name. And then Michaels … I just wanted something different than everyone else in Nashville (where he started performing in gay clubs). There were no other Michaels in Nashville. And that’s it really.

Q: Any new tattoos?

A: I have not found an artist. The artist that has done 90% of my tattoos passed away a couple of years ago. The last one I got was a tattoo of “Season 10? behind my ears. We all swore we would. All those other queens swore that we’re all going to get that tattoo. I think I’m the only one that went through with it.

Jon Norris of Voss Events, is the producer of the tour that kicks off its North America run at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale.

Q: Have you spent any time in South Florida?

A: When I was living in Nashville, we would go to Fort Lauderdale. I went to that Gay Pride on the Beach with all the little tents. I’ve been going there as a Pride performer a few times, and then we’ve done several shows in Miami. I took my mom on a trip to South Beach. Having seen [the movie] “Birdcage,” seeing that little part of Miami [Beach] is really cool.”

The longest Super Bowl game will also go down as the most-watched program in U.S. television history. According to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, Kansas City’s 25-22 overtime victory over San Francisco averaged 123.7 million viewers across television and streaming platforms. That shattered last year’s mark of 115.1 million for Kansas City’s last-play victory over Philadelphia and is a 7% increase. The game was televised by CBS, Nickelodeon and Univision and streamed on Paramount+ as well as the NFL’s digital platforms. Some of the increase can be attributed to a change in the way out-of-home viewers are counted.

Jinkx Monsoon Announces 'Everything at Stake' Tour Dates

The public on-sale will take place Friday, February 24 at 9 a.m. local time.

The Queen of all Queens is ready to cast her next great spell! Two-time RuPaul's Drag Race winner and Broadway breakout star Jinkx Monsoon will launch her biggest tour to date with Jinkx Monsoon: Everything at Stake.

After Monsoon finishes up her run as Matron 'Mama' Morton in Chicago on Broadway on March 12, her summer tour will perform in 44 cities across the U.S. and Canada from June 12 - August 14.

For the first time ever, Jinkx and her musical main squeeze Major Scales will tour with a full rock band performing a decades' worth of covers and original music from her critically-acclaimed albums (The Ginger Snapped, The Inevitable Album), along with new songs from her upcoming 3-part album The Virgo Odyssey.

Known for her electric and eclectic performance style, "Everything at Stake" shows Jinkx weaving together tales from her enigmatic life in a show where music, comedy, witchy magic, and camp-fantasy collide. At a time where literally everything is at stake, get ready for a spellbinding, bombastic, and revolutionary experience straight from the heart of this "internationally tolerated" superstar.

Registration for the "Everything at Stake" Artist Presale begins at 9 a.m. PST here , and registered users will receive presale codes on Wednesday, February 22nd at 12 p.m. PST. The public on-sale will take place Friday, February 24 at 9 a.m. local time here .

Monsoon says, "It's all been building to this! 'Everything at Stake' marks my biggest concert tour ever- where I get to flex every one of my performance muscles with my musical partner in crime, Major Scales. What's most exciting is, we're coming to over 40 cities across North America, many of which will be for the FIRST TIME! I know, crazy, right? In these tumultuous times, it's important to unapologetically claim our space as queer and trans people; to celebrate the revolutionary act of drag and living one's truth. I'm getting my broom ready, I can't wait to see you soon. Mama loves you."

The tour announcement comes during a whirlwind year for Monsoon. In January, she made her Broadway debut (a lifelong goal since she began doing drag at 15) in one of the longest running shows on Broadway-Chicago-playing Matron "Mama" Morton.

She kicked off her press tour for Chicago by becoming the first RuPaul's Drag Race queen to guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers, which quickly went viral when it hit online for her celebrity impressions. She's also recently appeared on CBS Mornings, Good Morning America.

Last summer, Jinkx competed on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7, becoming the first drag queen in Drag Race "herstory" to win the crown twice, earning the coveted title "Queen of All Queens" in a competition against previous winners. Her most recent tour was the critically-acclaimed theatrical spectacular, "The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show" (Produced by BenDeLaCreme Presents) co-starring with her best friend and fellow drag superstar, BenDeLaCreme.

The 2022 tour became their highest grossing holiday tour to date and is expected to return for its 6th year this holiday season. Jinkx also released her latest studio EP, The Virgo Odyssey: Prologue (PEG Records), spawning cult hits like "Know-It-All" and her dazzling cover of "Strange Magic" by Electric Light Orchestra.

The "Jinkx Monsoon: Everything at Stake" tour is produced by the AEG Presents Comedy Division in association with the Producer Entertainment Group (PEG).

About Jinkx Monsoon

Two-time RuPaul's Drag Race winner and Broadway breakout star Jinkx Monsoon (she/her) is the "internationally tolerated" drag icon who's taken over the entertainment industry as an award-winning stage actress, acclaimed vocalist, stand-up comic, and theatre sensation.

Jinkx has garnered an international fan base following her win on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 5 (2013), and continued her winning streak on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7 (2022) where she was crowned "Queen of All Queens", competing against previous winners. In 2023, Jinkx made her highly-anticipated Broadway debut as Matron "Mama" Morton in Broadway's longest-running show, Chicago.

She has toured the world performing her original cabaret shows with music partner Major Scales, including highly-acclaimed shows like The Ginger Snapped, The Vaudevillians (which became a hit off-broadway sensation) and their most recent production, Together Again, Again (2022). As a recording artist, Jinkx has released three critically-hailed albums of original music written by Major Scales including her most recent The Virgo Odyssey (2022), The Inevitable Album and The Ginger Snapped.

In 2018, she partnered with best friend and fellow RuPaul's Drag Race star, BenDeLaCreme for their first major holiday tour To Jesus, Thanks for Everything! - Jinkx and DeLa. Jinkx and DeLa's co-written holiday productions have grown into a worldwide phenomenon, spawning the 2019 tour, All I Want for Christmas is Attention, a Hulu holiday hit, The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Special (2020), and The Return of the Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show, LIVE! (2021) which performed for sold-out audiences across the U.S., U.K. and Canada. In 2022, she and DeLa had their highest grossing international tour to date with their 5th annual The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show.

No stranger to film and TV, Jinkx has appeared on the CBS cop drama Blue Bloods, the Netflix original AJ and the Queen, and has voiced characters for such animated shows as Steven Universe, Mighty Magiswords, Bravest Warriors, as well as a few surprises that are yet to come! Jinkx has been the subject of two documentaries: Drag Becomes Him, and The Queens.

She is an award-winning stage actress, having won the Gregory Award for her portrayal of Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and most recently, The MAC Award for her show The Ginger Snapped, co-written with Major Scales.

Drag Race Alum Bob the Drag Queen Is Going On Tour With Madonna

Madonna and Bob the Drag Queen

The RuPaul's Drag Race  season 8 winner and We're Here cohost is joining Madonna's The Celebration Tour .

Walk into the world tour purse first!

Madonna recently announced a brand-new world tour named The Celebration Tour , which will feature all of her biggest hits from four decades in the music industry. Joining her on tour is Bob the Drag Queen , best known for cohosting HBO's Emmy Award-winning series We're Here and winning season eight of RuPaul's Drag Race .

The official statement reads:

" The Celebration Tour will offer a one-of-a-kind experience with special guest Bob the Drag Queen a.k.a. Caldwell Tidicue across all dates on the global tour."

\u201cWe've come a long way!\u201d — Bobbiana (@Bobbiana) 1673976328

While competing on Drag Race , Bob dressed up as Madonna for a runway challenge category named "Night of a Thousand Madonnas." Bob's chosen outfit was Madge's Boy Scout uniform that she wore for the GLAAD Awards back in 2013.

The North American leg of The Celebration Tour will start in Vancouver, BC on July 15 and end in Las Vegas, NV on October 7. The tour will then have a European leg that kicks off in London, United Kingdom on October 14 and runs through December 1 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Madonna announced this new tour in a celebrity-filled video that shows footage of her having dinner with friends and playing a game of "truth or dare." The video featured Amy Schumer, Jack Black, Meg Stalter , Judd Apatow, Lil Wayne, and Diplo, among others. Bob also appears in the video, of course, sitting at the right-hand side of the Madge herself - quite a coveted spot!

Needless to say, fans are already excited not only to see Madonna back on the road with The Celebration Tour but also to find out what Bob will be doing alongside the Queen of Pop herself as they travel around the globe. Expect gags, goops, and shenanigans!

Get full dates, tickets, and more information about Madonna's The Celebration Tour on its official website .

Bob the Drag Queen & Madonna

After years of touring around the globe, Bob the Drag Queen is gearing up for her biggest tour yet — and this time, it’s with pop icon Madonna .

All Hail Bob the Drag Queen: How the Multi-Hyphenate Maintains Her Pop-Cultural Reign

In a new interview with Billboard , the drag superstar dishes on her upcoming special guest slot on Madonna’s 40 year-retrospective world trek, the Celebration Tour. “You ever think about how lucky you are to be alive at the same time as someone else?” Bob says. “We get to be alive at the same time as Madonna.”

The pair were first introduced when Bob served as host for Madonna’s New York Pride show at Terminal 5 in 2022. “Her daughter recommended me to host, and Madonna just really took a liking to me after that,” she says. “She sang me ‘Happy Birthday,’ she’s bought me cupcakes, I talk with her kids, and we just became really fast pals.”

Trending on Billboard

The RuPaul’s Drag Race season eight winner teased that fans can expect “a journey through four decades of the top-selling woman in the history of music,” with the queen “there to help facilitate the journey” throughout the show’s run.

Fans spotted Bob in Madonna’s tour announcement video , in which the star had a series of her celebrity friends — including Diplo, Amy Schumer, Judd Apatow, Jack Black and Lil Wayne — join her for a game of Truth or Dare. As Bob tells it, no one in the video knew what was supposed to happen until the cameras started rolling.

“I was the first one there, and then all of these people began streaming in. I was like, ‘Wait, Amy Schumer? Jack Black? What is going on?'” Bob recalls. “We all thought that we were individually going to be taking some photos with Madonna, none of us knew about this. Only Madonna could get us all to show up like that.”

When it comes to personal impact, Bob says she’s been moved by Madonna’s grace and trust in her. “She respects me in a way that doesn’t feel like a novelty,” she says. “Obviously, what matters most is how I feel about myself, but  still , a stamp of approval from Madonna is just like … ‘What?!'”

Bob the Drag Queen’s latest role: Madonna hype diva

The stand-up comic and “Drag Race” star gives good face on Madge’s Celebration Tour

current drag queen tours

Bob the Drag Queen wasn’t built for a supporting role — he’s the whole kit and caboodle, with wigs, glamorous gowns and a stage presence that electrifies a room. But when Madonna calls, you answer.

“This is a pop extravaganza,” said Bob, a.k.a. Christopher Delmar Caldwell or his stage name Caldwell Tidicue, referring to Madge’s 35-city Celebration Tour. It’s “a 40-year retrospective on a cultural icon’s life.”

The Style section

Bob, who is nonbinary, pansexual and goes by he/him or she/her pronouns, gained international fame after winning season eight of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and is now lending Madonna a hand on her tour, which rolls into D.C.’s Capital One Arena on Monday night.

Bob boisterously (and occasionally crudely) pumps the crowd by performing an oral history of the musician before she hits the stage. He then returns periodically to add charisma and character to the production. During “Vogue,” he lip-syncs ballroom commentator Kevin JZ Prodigy’s part during an ode-to-nightlife sequence (Prodigy was also the voice of Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour ), which he calls “an absolute honor.”

Though popularized by Madonna with her 1990 hit single, voguing was created in the queer dance halls of New York City in the ’70s. “Continuing the legacy of what New York nightlife and specifically the ballroom community has to give to the world is just really exciting,” said Bob.

While Bob joked the pair “met at boarding school,” they didn’t strike up a relationship until decades after Madonna began topping the charts — specifically 2022, when she rang him up from an unknown number.

“My agent called me [and] said Madonna wants your phone number. And I was like, ‘Why does she not already have it?’” recalled Bob, who went on to host Madonna’s New York Pride show at Terminal 5 that year. “I guess she enjoyed me, so she invited me back to join her for the international tour.” Bob then tee’d up for a grueling schedule that lasted more than a year and consisted of six-days-a-week, 12-hour-a-day rehearsals in New York City, Manchester and Long Island.

Sharp. Witty. Thoughtful. Sign up for the Style Memo newsletter.

Madonna has long been an outspoken supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. In the 1980s, she was one of the first celebrities to call attention to the AIDS epidemic, and she’s frequently spoken out against homophobia.

“I think Madonna’s connection with drag culture really goes back to her connection to queer people and her support for queer people for a very, very long time, even when it was wildly unpopular,” said Bob.

So, what about his work appealed to Madonna? As Bob, a stand-up comic, put it: He’s “really funny,” “in demand” and, since “Drag Queen” is in his name, maybe he’s just the first person who popped up when she Googled “drag queen.”

With this tour, Bob will be traveling to places such as Texas and Florida , which have attempted to ban aspects of drag in recent years. As someone who’s visited those states without “the backing of Madonna,” he said he’s empathetic to “queer people or trans people who have to live there and work their jobs at restaurants and as nurses and as teachers and as sex workers or whatever kind of job they’re doing.”

Amid the rising political controversy surrounding drag, there have never been more ways for drag queens to make money through their art. This past year, Bob debuted a makeup collection, as well as a clothing line, House of Bob, that reflects his gender-inclusive style and is made by U.S. workers who are “paid fair wages.”

Such success has prompted some fans to complain that the art has gone “too mainstream.”

To that, Bob says: “What’s wrong with you? Why do you want people to struggle?”

“ Honey, it’s mainstream ,” he continues, mimicking critics. “ I liked drag when it was cool. I prefer my drag queens broke, destitute and hungry. ”

For Bob, the appeal of drag is simple: He likes “dressing up” when he performs. His first night in drag was also his first stand-up experience.

“Why does John Mulaney wear a suit? Because he feels nice in it when he performs,” Bob said. “I don’t think John Mulaney wears a suit every day of his life but when he’s out onstage, he wants to wear a suit. And I want to wear a dress.”

Meet Mirage Amuro, a fierce and unapologetic drag queen whose name is a clever fusion of pop culture and personal inspiration. Taking a cue from the iconic villain Mirage in "The Incredibles," she adds a touch of Japanese flair with "Amuro," paying homage to the retired Japanese singer Namie Amuro, the favorite of her drag mother. Mirage made her mark on the drag scene as a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 16, where she confidently embraced her bold persona and left a lasting impression.

In the world of Drag Race, Mirage's journey included a memorable run marked by her sharp tongue, sassy quotes, and a lip-sync performance to her original song "She's Such a Bitch." Despite her early exit in Episode 4, Mirage's impact resonated beyond the runway. Not just a talented performer, Mirage is also a drag sister to Anetra, showcasing a tight-knit drag family. Her farewell message, "Looks Like the Trash bag Lost 💋 LoL ♡ Mirage," exemplifies her humor and resilience in the face of competition.

Off-stage, Mirage hails from Las Vegas, with a rich cultural background blending Mexican and Native American heritage. Her drag journey began with the support of her drag mother and guidance from seasoned queens like Alexis Mateo and Anetra. As she continues to conquer stages and leave her mark on the drag world, Mirage's vibrant personality and unique drag style make her a rising star in the drag community.

Jinkx Monsoon Gets Little Shop of Horrors Love from RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 9 Cast (Exclusive)

PEOPLE was on hand at the hit Off-Broadway revival to see the sweet moment between the 'RuPaul's Drag Race' alums

Dave Quinn is a Senior Editor for PEOPLE. He has been working at the brand since 2016, and is the author of the No. 1 New York Times best-selling book, Not All Diamonds and Rosé: The Inside Story of the Real Housewives from the People Who Lived It.

The cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season 9 came together on Tuesday, May 7 to celebrate the Drag Race Hall of Fame's Queen of Queens!

Angeria Paris VanMicheals , Gottmik , Jorgeous , Nina West , Plastique Tiara , Roxxxy Andrews , Shannel and Vanessa Vanjie gathered together at New York City's Westside Theater to see two-time  Drag Race  champ and trans-femme actor Jinkx Monsoon's celebrated turn in the Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors .

PEOPLE was in the audience, where former Drag Race guest judges Neil Patrick Harris  and  David Burtka were also in attendance with their 13-year-old twins, Harper Grace and Gideon Scott .

All were on their feet as they cheered on Monsoon, who is playing Skid Row sweetheart Audrey, opposite High School Musical alum Corbin Bleu as Seymour and James Carpinello as Orin.

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

"I'm so proud of Jinkxy," Andrews, Monsoon's former season 5 castmate, tells PEOPLE. "We don't get to see each other often, so to come to see her in her prime and doing what she loves the most is an honor. She's just a genius at what she does. I wouldn't miss it for the world."

"It's just nice to be back together," adds Andrews, noting the two have left the tension that was famously between them on the show well in the past. "That drama is all water off a duck's back, as Jinkx would say. We love each other so much. Sharing that kind of experience like Drag Race with each other, it bonds you for life. She'll always be my sister."

For West, seeing Monsoon on stage had a richer impact. Season 11's "Miss Congeniality" recently wrapped a two year run playing Edna Turnblad in the hit national tour of Hairspray , so is intimately aware of the challenges of working a grueling eight-show a week schedule.

"This isn't easy," says West. "I know how hard it is and I know how stressful it is, especially playing a role that's so iconic in the history of musical theatre. But Jinkx is a f------ star. She's able to let that pressure go, focus on the work, and do the job. And to be able to get to watch my friend do that is just incredible."

"It's also inspiring because Jinkx is a trailblazer," says West of Monsoon, who is the first trans actor and drag queen who has been cast to play Audrey in the acclaimed Off-Broadway production. "She's opening doors up for people like me to continue to push through and do roles that we always dreamt of. No doubt she's left an indelible mark on the role and the history of this show that will be appreciated for generations to come."

Monsoon, when asked about that very topic, notes that she's part of a long legacy.

"I may be the first of my ilk in this productions, but I'm following the lead of the really talented and wonderful drag performers and trans actors who have come before me," she says. "I feel like there was a road already paved for me. I'm just adding my bricks. It's exciting to be a part of that."

The performer comes to the musical after starring at Mama Morton in Broadway's Chicago , a role Monsoon will play again this summer after her time in Little Shop comes to an end.

Getting the call for Little Shop floored Monsoon, she tells PEOPLE. "I was convinced my agent got it wrong," Monsoon says, joking. "I was like, 'Are you sure you don't mean Aubrey II, the plant?' "

"But I was very, very thrilled," the reality star adds, praising the role, which was originated by  Ellen Greene in the first 1982 production. "She's kind of a like a daisy grown in a trash heap. Everybody likes the daisy who grows in the gutter."

Little Shop of Horrors  is based on the 1960 movie of the same name. Both tell the story of a down-on-his luck florist named Seymour who helps turn his boss’ plant shop around when he discovers a rare (and voracious) plant. He names the mysterious greenery Audrey II, after his co-worker and longtime crush, Audrey.

The property was adapted for the stage in 1982 by book writer Howard Ashman, who died in March 1991 at the age of 40 from his HIV/AIDS positive diagnosis. He also wrote the lyrics to Alan Menken's score, which included memorable musical theater tunes like "Suddenly Seymour" and "Somewhere That's Green."

A 1986 film adaptation, directed by Frank Oz and starring  Rick Moranis  and Greene, came amid the musical's Off-Broadway run. It became a cult classic, and helped fuel the popularity of community theater and high school productions of  Little Shop  for decades to come.

The current Off-Broadway revival — directed by Tony-winner Michael Mayer ( Spring Awakening ) and choreographed by Ellenore Scott ( Funny Girl ) — has been widely praised, winning top honors in 2020 from the Drama League, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards.

World of Wonder

Meanwhile, season 9 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars debuts on Paramount+ May 17.

The series is doing something different next season, bringing back eight queens to not only earn a coveted spot in the  Drag Race  Hall of Fame, but also to compete to win a supersized donation of $200,000 for a charity of their choosing.

That sum will be provided by  The Palette Fund , a private foundation that, according to a release, is "dedicated to breaking down barriers and advancing social change in communities that are under-resourced and facing significant challenges."

"It's all about giving back," says Shannel, the very first queen to ever walk into the workroom back in RuPaul's Drag Race 's initial season in 2009. "And that's what the show really has done for all of us; it's given us this incredible platform to really take our art to the next level. And we're all just fortunate to be able to use that opportunity to pay it forward to these organizations."

And Monsoon certainly gets the power of the platform, which has allowed them opportunities like Little Shop .

"This is essentially what I set out to do in drag," Monsoon says. "It's been very sweet and emotional to see people posting clips of me talking to RuPaul saying this is what I wanted to do with my career and my life and my being. And I'm doing it. And that's really exciting because I remember how important it was to me to see representation in my life, and how it inspired me and kept me going. So now that I get to be that for other people, that's a huge privilege."

Tickets for  Little Shop of Horrors  are available now at  littleshopnyc.com .

As Cannes readies for #MeToo bombshell, fest says it won’t automatically kick out accused directors and talent

Cannes Film Festival

A sense of dread is looming over this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with rumors that several stars and directors at the fest could be outed as sexual predators.

But the fest’s president saying they’ll take it on a “case-by-case” basis.

French press has been reporting that a list of 12 actors and directors will be hit with #MeToo allegations during the international festival, which starts next week.

“French cinema is in a cold sweat,” said a  headline in Le Figaro , which also claimed that the fest is so worried they’ve hired a crisis PR team.

Thierry Fremaux, Iris Knobloch

But festival President Iris Knobloch said this week in an interview with Paris Match that if someone with a movie playing the festival is named, their film will not immediately be disqualified.

“We’re extremely attentive to what is happening today, and we’re following the situation closely,” she said. “If the case of a person being implicated should arise, we will take care to make the right decision on a case-by-case basis, in consultation with the board and all the involved parties. But we would also consider the work to see what is best for it. It is the real star.”

The #MeToo movement has been revived overseas by French actress and activist Judith Godrèche, whose film “Moi Aussi,” (#MeToo) will play the Un Certain Regard selection at the festival.

The film will also pay for free to the public as part of the Cinéma de la Plage beach screenings section.

Godrèche filed two complaints of rape with the police against French filmmakers Benoit Jacquot and Jacques Doillon earlier this year, accusing both of assaulting her when she was only a teenager.

 Judith Godrèche

They have both denied the charges.

Cannes previously reckoned with #MeToo in 2018 as women came out against Harvey Weinstein, a movie industry titan and Cannes regular, with several of his assaults happening during the festival.

That year, they launched a hotline along with the French government that victims could call to report any incidents.

Former fest president Pierre Lescure and artistic director Thierry Frémaux said in a statement at the time, “These actions point to a pattern of behavior that merits only the clearest and most unequivocal condemnation,” adding they hoped the case would, “help us once again to denounce all such serious and unacceptable practices.”

Harvey Weinstein

That same year, French actress Catherine Deneuve and others denounced the #MeToo movement in a letter to Le Monde saying,  “insistent or clumsy flirting is not a crime, nor is gallantry a chauvinist aggression.”
