12 Fascinating Day Trips From Antalya City (With My Travel Tips)

Looking for the best day trips from Antalya, Turkey ? Don’t pass by, check my guide as I feature the most popular organized Antalya day tours and not so popular but incredibly interesting independent Antalya day trips. From ancient cities and azure beaches to hiking, canyoning, and exploring wild islands, it’s all here below!

Surprisingly, Antalya became one of my favorite provinces for beach vacations and nature . It comes second after Bodrum in terms of a number of activities and variety of things to do. During our few months stay, we explored a ton of places there and have many more left on our list to discover on our future visits. So I want to share my favorite Antalya excursions that you can go on your own or with a guide.

When I was thinking about what to put on my list, I decided to choose only those day trips that do not take more than 3 hours of travel one way. Anything longer than that is not a day trip, it should be already a staycation and a separate visit. Especially in a country like Turkey where every kilometer of land has something interesting to a traveler.

In fact, getting to all the places in the Antalya region that I mention below takes between 30 minutes and one and a half hours of travel. Going on these trips will show a very good picture of Antalya and the Turquoise Coast. Enjoy!

How to Go For Day Trips From Antalya

best day trips from Antalya

There are different ways how to go on day trips from Antalya. You can join an organized day tour, use public transport, private transfer, or hire a car. We personally like to rent a car as often as possible and go places and on occasion join tours as they may offer the best presentation of the site or destination.

Using public transport is also a good option since it’s also cheaper. Although you need to remember that using public buses (no trains in the Antalya region) is going to take much more time. So often you’ll be able to spend a day only on one trip when going by car or on a tour, there is a chance to see nearby places and combine 2 or even 3 day trips in one.

Private or small group tours are an affordable and efficient way to travel around the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Having a local guide will enrich your experience, especially if your day trip is focused on culture or history.

In Antalya (as pretty much anywhere in Turkey) we personally use GetYourGuide to find and book day tours. It is a reliable platform and all tours in Antalya you find through them are absolutely legit. Viator is also popular in Turkey, and in Antalya by the way, they offer a broader range of itineraries .

But still, our favorite way to go on day trips in Turkey is by car. I recommend this option to everyone who holds a driver’s license and has driving experience. Roads in Antalya are great and driving is enjoyable.

If you decide you want to hire a car in Antalya, I recommend the Local Rent website to find an affordable rental from a local company. Many come with insurance included and don’t require any deposit. For more details, read up my tips for renting a car and driving in Antalya .

Popular Short Day Trips From Antalya (Under 1 Hour Travel)

Antalya day trip to goynuk canyon – adventure escape.

day trips near antalya

Goynuk Canyon is one of the most popular day trips from Antalya. It is also one of the most beautiful natural wonders to visit with clean refreshing water and plenty of oxygen. On a hot summer day, it is a must-see destination for all nature and outdoor enthusiasts, regardless of fitness level.

The canyon on its own is a narrow gorge no more than 6 meters wide and up to 350 meters high. It has a length of 14 kilometers, ending in the spurs of Bedaglar. At the bottom of the canyon flows the river of the same name which is slow and safe. In summer it becomes shallow and turns into a large stream and a chain of small lakes that get separated by rapids up to 3 m high, made of boulders and large stones.

In most places, the creek is knee-deep or waist-deep, but there are a few sections that you have to traverse up to your neck in water or swim in a boat. For these reasons, you can’t do it without a wetsuit and inflatable vest. At the park, the staff member will provide guidance on how to start this canyoning body rafting and give mandatory equipment for that.

Besides this activity you can also go ziplining , trekking in the canyon on a Lycian trail, and joining a quad safari .

On the way to the canyon, there are a few lovely cafes with Turkish food and chai.

When traveling on your own, you can purchase tickets at the park. But be ready to wait to get in if visiting in the high summer season. There is an option, by the way, to purchase tickets only to enter the park without any rafting to walk around, pop into a cafe, or join other paid activities.

If you prefer to go on a tour, there is an option to choose a combo canyoning and ziplining tour or solely body rafting tour .

  • Distance from Antalya: 35 km (22 miles)
  • Travel time: 35-45 minutes one-way
  • How to get there: by car or private transfer
  • Best time to visit:  late May through early September
  • How much time to spend: the whole day if you want! The canyoning is not limited in time but you won’t be able to stay in the water for too long because it’s too cold.

Day Trip to Kemer – Hiking, Sea & Turkish Food

Kemer Central Beach

While Kemer is considered a resort town perfect for tourists who stay in one of its all-inclusive hotels, there are still a few lovely things to do there for those who don’t stay in Kemer but come to visit on a day trip from Antalya.

I personally love this little town with coniferous trees, clean air, and pebbly beaches. It provides a perfect opportunity to combine in one day time by the beach, hiking through coniferous forest, and then sitting by the river and old aqueduct while eating freshly caught fish.

So I recommend you do the same to see what a multifaceted town Kemer is!

Depending on the time of the day when you arrive, I suggest you go to Central Beach which is more like a landscaped area with numerous amenities for tourists (umbrellas, sun loungers, cafes with terraces, and bathrooms). But keep in mind that the line is divided into zones that are the property of Kemeri hotels. Everyone who is not staying in a hotel here has to pay for sunbeds and umbrellas.

Central beach has large pebbles that make the water crystal clear. If you’d prefer to swim on a sandy beach (with as beautiful water!), then better head to Qualista Beach where there is also a cool beach club.

If visiting Kemer in late spring or early fall (even in summer but in the evening), go on a hike through the forest inside the town to see Kemer from a bird’s eye view . There are a few trails that bring you to the top of the mountain . Check maps.me to understand which one will work best for you.

And at the end of the day, if you come by car, follow a twisty road towards Ovacik and make a stop at this restaurant above the canyon . It is my secret place where Mark and I loved going to unwind and have delish fried fish or gozleme. Here it is:

  • Distance from Antalya: 44 km (27 miles)
  • Travel time: 40-50 minutes one-way
  • How to get there: by car or public bus

  • How much time to spend:  from a few hours to a few days

Antalya to Phaselis – Roman Era Ancient Site & Beach

On a very beautiful small peninsula south of Kemer, there is the ancient city of Phaselis covered with cedars and pines. It is another interesting spot for a day trip from Antalya which you can visit on your own or as part of a group tour combined with a full-day boat trip with lunch.

Phaselis is a unique settlement where the sea and history coexist with its ruins, historical antique theater, aqueduct, agora, and baths.

The port city of ancient times, Phaselis, was founded in 690 BC due to its unique location and proximity to rich forest areas, with three different bays suitable for creating a port. It is located among pine and cedar forests in the Olympos-Beydaglari National Park.

best day trip from Antalya

Before entering the ancient city, you’ll need to walk or drive along an asphalt road for about 2 km and reach the place where the sea and the ancient ruins meet. The northern harbor, which you will see after the remains of the Temple and the Necropolis (cemetery) is between the Necropolis and the road to the Ancient Aqueduct.

The best part about this place for many people is a beautiful sandy 100 meter beach among the trees. It can be accessed by paying a small entrance fee. Phaselis beach is a favorite place for families with children because of the calm sea and warm sea water. It is also one of the bays from where boats depart to Kaleici Marina (Old part of Antalya) and yachts to Kemer, Tekirova, and Camyuva.

  • Distance from Antalya: 56 km (35 miles)
  • Travel time: 50-60 minutes one-way
  • How to get there: by car, private transfer, or by bus and then walk to the entrance
  • Best time to visit:  from late May to October
  • How much time to spend:  from a few hours to a full day

Day Trip From Antalya to Perge & Kursunlu Waterfall – History & Nature

Antalya day trip to Perge

Only in Antalya there is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with the ancient history of Turkey without giving up entertainment and beach holidays. After all, the entire Antalya province is full of various sites with the ruins of many ancient cities.

One of these cities is ancient Perge which attracts more and more tourists every year. It is one of the most interesting attractions for lovers of picturesque ruins and history. Excursions that include a visit to Perge are available from the center of Antalya, from Kemer, Belek, Alanya and Side. But it’s also very easy to visit on an individual trip when renting a car or using public transportation.

Perge is located 18 km from Antalya, not far from the modern town of Aksu. It starts with the city gates – the inner gate from the Hellenistic period and the outer gate from the Roman period. The most photographed element is the Hellenistic Gate, which was erected in the 3rd century BC. Through it, you can go to the colonnaded street with the baths and ruins of the Agora (market square).

Kursunlu waterfall

If you haven’t seen any ancient cities in Turkey yet, visiting Perge will be a great introduction as it was one of the richest and most beautiful cities of the old world during the Hellenistic period. It was famous for its architecture and sculpture. And in 2009 the city was included in the UNESCO World Temporary Heritage List.

After the visit to Perge, if you are not tired, make a trip to the nearby ancient city of Aspendos . It has the best preserved ancient theater and is almost nearby – only 35 km away.

Another place to visit in the area is Antalya Archaeological Museum which is the largest on the entire Turkish coast. All the statues, relics, and sarcophagi found in Perge are now in the Antalya Museum.

And one more place to add to this day trip is the picturesque Kursunlu waterfall . Hiding behind lush greenery, it provides a wonderful opportunity to cool off and take fantastic photos. This waterfall is located in the middle of a pine forest, where you can enjoy camel riding or a family picnic.

  • Travel time: 20-30 minutes one-way
  • How to get there: by car or city bus, or join this organized tour that covers it all
  • Best time to visit:  March to May, September to November
  • How much time to spend: expect to devote at least 3 hours to Perge

From Antalya to Tahtali Mountains – Scenic Views & Traditional Turkish Villages

Driving through Tahtali mountains in Antalya

This would be not really a day trip but more of a road trip from Antalya through Tahtali mountains. And I think it’s a great trip for those travelers who have more time in Antalya or who have a desire to see Turkish village life in the mountains rather than by the sea.

Tahtali Mountains are mainly famous for the ski resort Saklikent. It is particularly popular in Antalya during the winter season in Turkey . However, it is no less beautiful in the summer too. And there is much more hidden behind the mountains than just the area for skiing.

Saklikent on its own stands out with peace and quiet. Tourists have a great opportunity to be alone with untouched nature, enjoy panoramic views, go hiking, and listen to the sound of majestic mountains.

If you are visiting during the snow season which lasts from January until the end of April, expect to find all the needed infrastructure and lots of snow activities. On the top, there is a panoramic cafe serving snacks and hot drinks.

In summer, Saklikent is much quieter and offers hiking in the mountains, BBQing, and participation in the famous Shenlik festival. In July and August when Antalya gets very hot, locals escape the heat and run to Saklikent because the temperature there is up to 15 degrees lower.

Saklikent

We love going to Saklikent just to unwind, drive on the scenic mountain road to enjoy the views, and go on short hikes. But before we get there, we also love stopping in a bunch of other places to eat traditional (for this region) food, spend time in villages, and walk in nature.

Among my favorite places on the way to Saklikent are Doyran Nature Preserve , Cakirlar village , and Geyikbayiri . The last one is a village with a green area around it excellent for camping, rock climbing, and mountaineering. It has lots of walking paths and recreation areas running through cedar and red pine forests.

Doyran Nature Reserve near Antalya

Only in Geyikbayiri alone it is possible to spend the entire day walking around, taking wonderful photos of wooden plateau houses, and tasting delicious nomadic dishes in one of their many restaurants. Our top restaurant is Yayla Gozleme , they have wonderful food and views, views, views! On a bright sunny day, from their terrace you can see all of Antalya in the distance and the sea.

  • Distance from Antalya: 25-50 km (15-31 miles) depending on where in Tahtali you decide to go
  • Travel time: 1-1.5 hours one-way
  • How to get there: by car
  • Best time to visit:  any time during the year is amazing, but expect to have different activities
  • How much time to spend: from a few hours to the entire day

More One Day Tours From Antalya

Longer Day Trips From Antalya (1-3 Hours of Travel)

To side – ancient city by the sea.

Side, just like Kemer, is a seaside town great for beach vacations. But it is also a great pick for a day trip or on the way from Antalya to Alanya or Cappadocia region . The main reasons to visit are the ancient city, which is now popular with tourists, cute numerous souvenir shops and cafes, and its beach.

Side is small and feels like time there has stopped. If you walk along the ancient streets, you will see a magnificent view of the majestic columns of the ancient temple of Apollo and smooth blue expanse of sea waves. Further, the path lies along a busy embankment, snow-white yachts that stand in the harbor and seem to invite you for a walk with a light breeze.

Side day trip

Among all the ancient sites, it is also worth noting Side Museum, dedicated to the civilizations that once flourished on the territory of the city. Its exhibits are fragments of statues, sarcophagi, ancient coins, and amphoras. The oldest item dates back to the 8th century BC. For the most part, all exhibits tell about the Greco-Roman period, but you can also find artifacts related to the Byzantine and Ottoman eras.

Holidays in Side have become popular not only because of the unique sights but also because of the numerous beaches. The coast is divided into western and eastern. Distinctive features of local beaches are sandy coverage and shallow water which allows families with children to relax comfortably. The water in the sea warms up by mid-May and its temperature remains at high levels until the end of October.

In July and August Side is hot, so it will be difficult to join excursions or do a self-guided tour.

If you have a car, combine a day trip to Side with a quick visit to nearby Manavgat Waterfalls and Oymapinar Reservoir . Another option is to join an organized tour and go to a traditional village Ormana and the nearby Altinbesik underground cave. You can also visit Ormana and Altinbesik cave on your own, but for the village, it’d be more interesting to be on a tour to hear stories about it.

  • Distance from Antalya: 75 km (46 miles)
  • Travel time: 70-80 minutes one-way to Side
  • How to get there: by car, private transfer, by bus, or on a tour
  • Best time to visit:  from April-June, September-November
  • How much time to spend:  half a day or a full day if staying at the beach/hotel

Trip From Antalya to Adrasan – Eco Village & Red Sand Beach

day tour to Adrasan

Adrasan village is a hidden paradise on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey that should be on your travel bucket list if you like visiting traditional villages and appreciate tranquility. It is the right choice for all holidaymakers who desire to spend a holiday in a natural environment and see a different side of Antalya.

I’ve been to this village a couple of times and couldn’t get enough. I visited it on a day tour and stopped here on a road trip between Antalya and Fethiye . And all my visits were always incredible due to Adrasan’s natural beauty and deep blue sea, due to its people who make you feel at home right away, and due to the number of activities.

You see, Adrasan is located near the world-famous Lycian path and has a 2 km long beach surrounded by groves with pine trees.

So on the one hand, you can go hiking (even on short hikes) because the views that open up from hiking trails in this area are simply magnificent. On the other hand, you can come to spend all day long by the beach, surfing , kayaking , diving , trying local food in many cute cafes , and joining tours to nearby islands. Kayaks and diving equipment are available for rent on the beach.

Adrasan village Antalya

The entire area of Adrasan village is protected and its beach is among the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean region. Unlike other beach areas in Antalya and surrounding cities, Adrasan attracts with its shallower and more closed structure. Since it is situated in the bay, the sea near the shore is always very calm. There are no currents and waves, the water is transparent and clean.

So the shallow water on the beach strip will allow you to fully enjoy your holiday, even if you do not know how to swim. It also allows families with children to have a more comfortable holiday.

In addition to the beach and sea, there is also a river flowing through Adrasan with many restaurants along it. Stop by to have lunch or early dinner, feed the ducks or cats, and take dozens of insta photos.

And if you find that what the village offers is not enough, just go on a boat tour to one of the nearby coves or bays. The number one island to visit in the Adrasan Bay area is Suluada island . Being one hour away from Adrasan it is as pure and beautiful as the Maldives. Tours to this and other islands can be purchased at the beach.

Suluada island

Adrasan also has many quirky boutique hotels and guesthouses at a good price, so there is always an opportunity to turn a day trip into a long staycation. Because there is really a lot to do!

  • Distance from Antalya: 115 km (71 miles)
  • Travel time: 2.5 hours one-way
  • How to get there: by car or public buses (with a transfer)
  • Best time to visit:  May through October
  • How much time to spend:  one or a few days

Day Trip to Cirali & Olympos – Ancient Lycia, Sea Turtles, Hippie Atmosphere & Fire Mountain

Cirali and Olympos are located in the same direction as Adrasan village is but closer to Antalya. So it is very easy to combine visits to all these places in one trip (just plan it for at least 2 full days) or break it into 2 separate day trips.

If I had to describe these two cities in a few words, I’d pick ‘calmness, silence, green, and peace’. Although two of them are completely different from each other in terms of beauty and comfort.

Cirali village

Cirali is a town where you can relax in one of the magnificent boutique hotels or exquisite bungalows (even if you come for a day only), and on a clean and calm beach. All hotels here have beautiful facilities with exquisite gardens. The beach is well equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas.

Located on the border of Olympos Beydagları Coastal National Park, Cırali is perhaps one of the best examples of Turkish small towns where people live in harmony with nature. The area on both sides of Cıralı Beach is part of the national park which is a very special place with its natural and historical values because it is a breeding area for Caretta turtles.

Olympos faces the same beach as Cirali but its main settlement is a 30-minute walk away. Olympos has a very different feel and character and is mainly famous for its hippie atmosphere and Lycian ruins (you need to pay to get in). Of course, because it used to be an important city of the ancient Lycian Civilization and a very important place in maritime trade.

Both these towns have centers consisting of several streets with cafes, markets, and shops selling souvenirs and materials you need at sea. Both of them are under strict protection and offer to spend excellent time. Oh, and in the Olympos valley (which is closer to Cirali) is a Chimaera mountain site. It is famous for dozens of small flames which burn constantly from under the rocky slopes and are a must-see attraction.

  • Distance from Antalya: 125 km (77 miles)
  • How to get there: by car or public buses (with a transfer) and hitchhiking
  • How much time to spend: at least one full day

From Antalya to Demre & Ancient City Myra – For Rock Carved Thombs & Underwater City

Among all day tours from Antalya on my list, Demre is the farthest. It takes around 3 hours to reach it one way, so travel here can be exhausting to accomplish within one day. But it is well worth the time. Although in my experience, it’d be much more efficient to combine this journey with another one on the same route.

Demre is simply a fantastic place for a peaceful holiday on the Mediterranean coast away from the crowds. In addition to its crystal clear sea, stylish boutique hotels and fish restaurants, it is famous for historical artifacts dating back to the 5th century. Such as for example St. Nicholas Church (Santa Clause Church) which is the symbol of Demre and a pilgrimage site. And then the Ancient City of Myra where St. Nicholas was the bishop.

ancient city of Myra

In Demre, you can enjoy swimming and diving in the ancient ruins near the coast by Kekova Island, Ucağız village and Simena (Kaleköy). They are among the places to visit by boat trips as they are adjacent to other hidden paradises of Antalya.

Despite being a popular sightseeing area, Demre has managed to preserve its historical and natural charm. It’s always interesting to explore its area on a tour, in the end of the day go to one of the famous restaurants that serve fresh seafood between a fishing village and colorful fishing boats on the beach, and watch Demre’s famous sunset views.

  • Travel time: 2.5-3 hours one-way
  • How to get there: by car, public bus, and/or organized tour
  • Best time to visit:  April-June, September-October
  • How much time to spend: one day

From Antalya to Koprulu Cayon National Park – For Dramatic Views, Hiking & Rafting

Koprulu (or as it has to be in Turkish Köprülü) Canyon National Park is a hidden paradise located within the borders of the Antalya province. Its name is not known to the majority yet because the canyon was discovered just a few years ago.

Those who come here know it mainly for rafting. But after driving into the National park it is difficult not to notice the magnificent beauty of the canyon and get a desire to spend all day long exploring its trails. So yes, rafting is not the only reason to visit.

The picturesque nature that exists here, caves , canyons , the magic of flowing water, and history of the ancient city of Selge for hundreds of years are what captivates and can keep you busy for many days.

Koprulu canyon day trip from Antalya

Entrance to the park is free and the best way to visit is by vehicle.

If you are going to come with your own vehicle, let me mention that roads through the park are smooth. You can travel comfortably even in a small car. At least, on the road up to the famous bridge of the canyon (Oluk Köprü), it is comfortable and hassle-free. After the bridge, the road narrows.

When visiting on your own, spend some time hiking, see the historical Oluk Bridge on the river and the ancient city of Selge , contemplate the beauty of river, join jeep safari tours, cycle, go canoeing, rafting, or even swimming.

If you prefer to go on this day trip from Antalya with a tour, there are rafting and canyoning adventure tours available. Other activities mentioned above can be found on spot in the park.

  • Distance from Antalya: 90 km (56 miles)
  • Travel time: 1.5 hours one-way
  • How to get there: by car or on a tour
  • How much time to spend:  one full day and camp and stay longer

Quick Day Trip From Antalya to Alanya – City Escape

Being 2 hours drive from Antalya and having a lot to offer, Alanya is not really a destination for a day trip. I’d say it is a place to visit for at least 2 full days.

However, those who are short on time and who want to get a quick idea of another beautiful Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast will enjoy traveling here. Just make sure to leave early and have the entire day ahead of you.

day trip to Alanya

Alanya is one of the hottest resort cities in Turkey where the holiday season lasts from May to October and vacation prices are often lower than in other parts of the country. It will appeal to those who like not only beach vacation but also walking a lot and seeing beautiful sights on their own.

Alanya is similar to Antalya in some ways, yet it has its own charm and pace. There are lots of picturesque spots and beautiful nature in the city and around it.

Among must-visit places in Alanya on a day trip are Alanya Fortress , Kizikule octagonal tower that houses a museum with artifacts, Beach of Kleopatra , Kedi Evi park of cats , Alanya Marina and embankment by the water . And of course another thing to do is to join a boat tour and see the city from the water.

But my favorite sights are located not in Alanya but around it. Just some of them are Sapadere Canyon and area along the Dim Cayi river. They are famous not only for their beauty but a number of activities. If short on time, consider joining a tour which includes a city excursion, boat trip, cable car to the castle, and trip to Dim Cayi river.

If time allows, I’d highly recommend devoting more time to Alanya than one day since the city is much worth the trip!

  • Distance from Antalya: 135 km (84 miles)
  • Travel time: 2 hours one-way
  • Best time to visit:  March through June, September through December
  • How much time to spend:  one full day and more

Bonus: Is It Worth Going On a Day Trip From Antalya to Pamukkale?

Pamukkale

I know it is quite popular among travelers to go on a full-day Pamukkale tour from Antalya . But is it really worth it? The tour is really exciting and packed with activities but it won’ be for everyone. Keep in mind that:

The road takes more than 3 hours one way and for many people it may be exhausting. Some tour companies make stops on the way to Pamukkale so the journey doesn’t seem long. Thus you may want to go with them.

However, most of the time tour buses usually arrive at the same time between 11 am-12 pm which means that the landmark is usually very crowded since everyone else is offering a tour of Pamukkale at the same time.

If visiting in the hot summer season, arriving in the afternoon for many people may be also physically difficult since the heat is really unbearable. And then the tour bus leaves before sunset to return on time.

While the tour from Pamukkale to Antalya allows covering more distance in one day, you do not really experience more. Besides Pamukkale, the area is rich with other activities and unique travertines and springs . I’d also recommend you visit Kaklik cave which is a smaller version of Pamukkale underground.

For the quality trip, it’d be better to stay overnight in Pamukkale and then devote most of your next day to the site rather than to being on the bus. With the big number of travel companies in town, it is easy to find a local guide on spot.

Another good option is to plan a trip in that way when you go from Antalya to the next destination like Kusadasi, Fethiye, Marmaris or even Bodrum and see other popular Turkish cities and towns as well.

Or, as we did it, go on a road trip to Pamukkale from Antalya and see other places along the way at your own pace. In this way, you’ll be able to experience much more!

When staying in Antalya , make sure you find the time to head to Kekova Island, one of the best Turkish islands near Kalekoy village. Here, you’ll find underwater ruins that date back to Lycian times, and you can visit them directly by boat tour or kayak. The ruins were thrown into the sea by a massive earthquake believed to have occurred during the 2nd century. The ruins are now known as the “Sunken City.”

It’s impressive to see first-hand, but the whole island is nothing short of beautiful in its own right. This part of Turkey is packed with ancient ruins, and even a quick visit to Kalekoy will allow you to see the ancient ruins of Simena and a massive fortress on the hilltop.

You can find day trips that tour to Kekova easily from most beach resorts in the Antalya region, with Kas being the closest.

2. Excursion From Antalya To Düden Waterfalls

What To See In Antalya - Waterfall Duden at Antalya, Turkey

Every year, millions of visitors head to the Antalya region , but few know about the beauty of the waterfalls that are just a stone’s throw from Antalya International Airport! These coastal waterfalls are arguably among the most beautiful places in Turkey to visit.

The waterfalls are formed from the cascades of water spilling down Mount Taurus before heading to the sea. As the light fades and the sun sets, the water begins to glisten and forms beautiful waterfalls that you must catch on film.

A rainbow is shining over Duden waterfalls, Antalya

Duden Waterfalls are situated in a protected park, so there’s plenty of greenery to chill out in, and it’s never too crowded, apart from during important national days in Türkiye when locals head out with their family members to spend some time together in the sun.

You can reach the waterfalls on your own steam by hiring a car ; they’re only around 15 minutes from the airport, or you can book a tour, which is probably the easiest way. Tours take you to the foot of the waterfalls, or you can go on a full-day boat trip and see them cascading into the sea for yourself.

3. Day Trip From Antalya To The Land Of Legends Theme Park

Best Day Trips From Antalya - land of legends theme park

Enjoy a day of family-friendly fun by exploring the excitement of the Land of Aqua and Waterfront Kingdom, two distinct zones. This is our recommendation for the kids, but adults can enjoy it, too. No judgment.

You can have all-day access to high-speed rides, four roller coasters, water slides, animal shows, and a 5-dimension cinema. Try the Hyper Coaster, which takes you from 200 feet (61 meters) to a 142 feet (43,5 meters) diameter loop at speeds of 72 miles per hour (115 kilometers per hour), or the Deep Dive slide, which sends you almost vertically down. Later, unwind by gliding down the Lazy Floats River’s gentle currents or having a blast with the family at the Secret Lagoon’s Spray Action multi-level playground.

Find local tour options here.

These hot air balloon tours are organized regularly all year long, but only in good weather conditions. You will watch how the crew prepares the balloons and may take as many pictures as you like.

Marmaris and Icmeler run into one another and are less than 10 minutes apart. For that reason, Icmeler is often called Marmaris because it’s much smaller. However, it’s worth pointing out that they are two different resorts if we are being technical! During your stay, zig-zag between the two because Icmeler is so beautiful and worth more than one visit .

Marmaris is home to myriads of picturesque beaches , crystal-clear waters, and spectacular sunsets. The long stretch of sandy beach runs along the town’s promenade and is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

Another popular feature of Marmaris is its active nightlife, with a range of pubs, nightclubs, and restaurants offering something for everyone. You can enjoy traditional Turkish music at one of the town’s many taverns or sample local dishes at a seafood restaurant.

23 Fabulous Things to Do in Antalya, Turkey, Including The Best Day Trips!

23 Fabulous Things to Do in Antalya, Turkey, Including The Best Day Trips!

Turkey’s Turquoise Coast is a stunning place to travel, and if you’re lucky enough to get to plan a trip here, you can use Antalya as a great base from which to explore the region. Here are my recommendations for the best things to do in Antalya (including Antalya day trips).

Can’t read now? Pin for later!

Things to Do in Antalya, Turkey

The Best Things to Do in Antalya

I still remember the road trip to the south coast I took with my family when I was 14 years old: the hot weather, the calmness I felt when I finally got to swim after a long uninterrupted car drive that my father refused to take a break, the sandwiches we ate in the picnic areas in the forest, and the friends I made on the road who became my pen pals.

I had the chance to see almost all the south coast of Turkey back then; Antalya, Kas, Fethiye, Kalkan, Alanya… These are all beautiful places that I still remember dearly. However, there is something extra special about Antalya!

So here are my picks for the best things to do in Antalya, including some places that you can do as day trips!

Old Town (Kaleiçi)

Turkey - Antalya - Old Harbour view in Antalya City. Antalya is populer tourist destination in Turkey.

You can think of Kaleiçi like a maze, a neighborhood where you can easily get lost among restaurants, souvenir shops, boutique hotels, and art galleries.

Kale Kapisi, which is the main square, has a clock tower and a fortress gate. Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque a few meters away is the 18th-century mosque with a stunning interior tile. Kesik Minare is also nearby which was once a Roman temple, then converted into a church but destroyed by fire in the 19 th century. The remaining building is now a mosque.

Stroll through Kaleiçi before it gets too hot, enjoy your tea early in the morning among the Ottoman styled mansions, and breath in the air before locals come to the square.

Turkey - Antalya- Old town (Kaleici) in Antalya, Turkey

Nowadays people come to Old Harbor to watch the sunset while drinking a glass of white wine or to come to decide which excursion boat to take that will sail to the Mediterranean. It is hard to imagine that the port was once a major economic hub bringing prosperity and trade to the city as well as to nearby cities from the 2 nd century to the 20th.

Antalya’s old harbor has cliffs looking over the Mediterranean and home to several bazaars, boutiques, and cafes. Sunset time is the best time to visit the harbor to see the spectacular sky and rest at the end of a long day while drinking your favorite drink.

Where to Stay in Antalya

Turkey - Antalya - Love Antalya, famous fountain in the centre of Antalya, Turkey

We’re in the process of creating comprehensive guides on where to stay in various Turkish cities, but for now, we recommend checking out  Booking.com  as early as possible since many of the best hotels in Antalya sell-out early (especially in the summer).

What to Pack for Antalya

Greece - Crete - Heraklion - Old Venetian Harbor Luggage

We have a guide of  what to pack for Turkey , but here are five things you definitely want to bring with you!

The Lonely Planet Turkey :  a good guidebook can help you with the kinds of safety tips you need if you’re out in the city and feel a bit lost, especially if you don’t have internet or a cell signal. These also have specific neighborhood information that will help you in different parts of the city, and it’s a great supplement to blog posts like this one!

Unlocked Cell Phone:  Stephanie and I both have unlocked cell phones that we bought in Europe (Stephanie uses a  Samsung  and I use an  iPhone ). This allows up to get sim cards when we travel so that we always have the internet. This has gotten us out of so many jams! If you don’t have an unlocked cell phone that can use a Turkish sim card, you can buy a cheaper  unlocked phone online  and bring it with you!

Pacsafe Citysafe  or Other Anti-Theft Bag:  This is the bag both Stephanie and I use for all our travels. It has a pouch with RFID technology so our credit cards can’t get scanned from afar, interlocking zippers to make it harder to pickpocket, and it’s roomy enough to be a perfect sightseeing day bag, yet it’s still quite stylish for all of its security features. If you’d rather bring something smaller, you can pack a  money belt   instead.

Grayl Water Filter :  While the water is *technically* safe to drink in much of Turkey, I would still avoid it. If you don’t want to be buying millions of plastic water bottles, you can get a reusable water bottle that comes with a water filter so that you can stick to the tap water and reduce your plastic waste. If you’ll be traveling outside of the major tourist centers, check if the water is potable locally.

Seabands:  If you get seasick easily, pack some Sea bands or   seasickness pills  so you don’t miss out on the best parts of Turkey – being on the water! A trip to Turkey isn’t complete without a cruise or at least a quick boat trip, so make sure you’re prepared to enjoy it to the fullest!

Antalya is one of our favorite regions in Turkey because it offers so much to see and do. It’s the perfect combination of historical landmarks, beaches, incredible natural beauty, hiking experiences, and more.

With so much to see and do, it can be a challenge putting together your Antalya itinerary, especially as the attractions you see will largely be determined by how long you have to spend and who you are traveling with.

To help you out, we’ve listed how we would spend 3, 4, 5, or 7 days in Antalya and our preferred route, so you can make planning your trip to Antalya an easy breezy process.

is antalya worth visiting

Here is our recommended airport transfer in Antalya:

Here are our recommended places to stay in Antalya:

  • Hostel Vauge (Most famous hostel in Antalya!)

How many days is Enough For Antalya?

The amount of time you spend in Antalya will largely depend on how much time you have on your vacation.

If you’re planning an extended Turkey itinerary and visiting other parts of the country, you can see the highlights of Antalya in three days.

However, if you have more time at your disposal, do use it. We can think of enough attractions and activities to fill your diary for a week here, maybe even more.

But we would say that the optimal amount of time to spend in Antalya is 5-7 days, which gives you enough time to see the highlights of Antalya and take a couple of day trips.

Where to Stay In Antalya?

Before we get into the attractions and how to organize your Antalya itinerary, let’s quickly discuss the best neighborhood to stay in Antalya to maximize the use of your vacation time.

There are two places in Antalya you might consider staying. The first is the Old Town, which is ideal for first-time visitors, solo travelers, and those traveling on a budget.

The Old Town is the beating heart of Antalya and it’s well connected to many of the top attractions, such as the Hadrian’s Gate, Antalya Clock Tower, and some of the best dining options.

Antalya-Old-Town-Ruins

The second place you want to consider is along the coast. There are many world-class beach resorts in Antalya and they are not all located in the city of Antalya.

What many people don’t realize is that Antalya is a province, and has a city named Antalya after the province – I know, confusing right?

So if you opt for a beach hotel make sure you have booked one in Antalya city OR you’ve hired a car. If you hire a car, it doesn’t really matter which hotel you book.

The Best Antalya Itinerary for 3 Days

We mentioned earlier that three days is the minimum amount of time you need in Antalya, and this is how we would spend those three days…

Day 1: Old Town Antalya

We recommend you spent your first day exploring the Old Town of Antalya and the attractions within Antalya City itself. After that, we can go and explore further afield.

Stop 1: Tünektepe Teleferik (Antalya Cable Car)

cable-car-in-Antalya

Perhaps the biggest attraction in Antalya is the cable car to the summit of Tünektepe, which sits at 1706 meters above sea level.

The cable car takes you to a viewpoint that offers breathtaking panoramic views of Antalya and the Mediterranean Ocean.

Before making your way back down, enjoy the restaurants with a view. You have your choice between a Pizza House, Tea House, or a traditional restaurant in Antalya , each offering incredible views from the building.

Or simply get an ice cream if you’re visiting during the summer. It only takes 10 minutes to reach the top (and back down again) so it’s something you can do either at the beginning or end of the day.

Stop 2: Walk Around the Old Town and Old Roman Harbor

day trips near antalya

The Old Town in Antalya is simply stunning. Also known as Kaleiçi , the historic center brings Antalya’s rich heritage to life.

The historical city center, called “Kaleiçi” (or Old Town in English), sheds light on the cultural heritage of Antalya, where you can feel the spiritual and historical influences on the city.

Here you will find centuries old buildings and quaint cobbled streets, with mosques and parks around every corner. Simply wandering around the town is inspiring in itself.

Since the Old Town was built during the days before cars, you don’t see many vehicles here, so it makes for the perfect place to stroll around, delve into coffee shops and boutique stores, bazaars and antique shops, and simply soak it all up.

Of course, the most iconic feature of Old Town is the Roman Harbour, which was built more than 2,000 years ago as the base for the Turkish Navy.

Be sure to check out the glass elevator that connects the old town with the new.

Stop 3: Check Out Hadrian’s Gate

antalya old town

Located in Old Town Antalya, Hadrian’s Gate is one of the most historic landmarks of Antalya. The archway was built by the Roman Emporer, Hadrian, in the year 130. It’s the only remaining entrance from the Roman era.

The gate sits about 8 meters tall and dates back to the Roman era, but the upper part was rebuilt during the early 13th century by  Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat I .

The gate is free to visit, but though it is small, don’t rush to see it. The ornate detailing of the gate is beautiful and tells the story of the Emporer and his family through statues and entablature.

Stop 4: Antalya Museum

day trips near antalya

Antalya’s history is long and storied, and the best place to learn all about it is at the Antalya Museum, otherwise known as the Antalya Archaeological Museum. The museum is one of the largest archeology museums in Turkey and features an impressive collection of ancient artifacts from the region, including Greek and Roman sculptures and mosaics.

One of the standout pieces was the statues from the city of Perge , depicting the Roman Emporers such as Plancia Magna, Emperor Hadrian, the Emperor Septimius Severus. The museum has thirteen halls, but these were found in the Hall of Imperial Statues.

I was also intrigued by the sarcophagi from ancient Roman burial grounds in the Sarcophagus Hall, each with unique carvings and inscriptions. The most beautiful was the Domitias sarcophagus, which is decorated with reliefs showing the twelve labors of Hercules. The hall features the sarcophagi of Heracles, Domitius Julianus, Domita Philiska, Aurelia Botiane and Demetria.

Overall, the Antalya Museum provided a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich history. I highly recommend a visit for any history or culture enthusiasts. If you only have one day in Antalya to spend looking at museums, make sure it’s this one.

Stop 5: Suna & Inan Kirac Kaleici Museum

Located in the historic Kaleiçi district of Antalya, the Suna and İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum is a combination of two lovingly restored homes from the 19th century, a Traditional Antalya House and the Aya Yorgi Church.

The houses contain a diverse collection of artifacts, ranging from traditional clothing and furniture.

One highlight is the Hagios Georgios Church, which contains Çanakkale ceramics that belonged to the Suna & İnan Kıraç collection.

With its unique blend of cultural treasures, the Suna and İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum offers something for every history lover.

Stop 6: Visit Karaalioglu Park for Sunset

day trips near antalya

Karaalioglu Park is a large urban park that overlooks the Roman Harbor and Mediterranean Ocean. It’s full of green spaces, with colorful and exotic flowers, squares, and statues.

It also has three terraces overlooking the ocean, which has become a hotspot for locals and tourists alike to gather and watch the sunset.

Pack a picnic and watch the sun go down, after that, head to the famous Bar Street to experience Antalya’s amazing nightlife.

Day 2: Boat Trip from Antalya

For the second day, you’re going to need to pack your swimwear and towel because we’re going on a boat trip! There are many boat trips in Antalya , but we recommend the Pirate Boat Trip to Phaselis Bay because it’s the perfect combination of history and snorkeling, which is what boat trips are all about.

Stop 1: The Ancient Greek and Roman City of Phaselis

day trips near antalya

If you’re looking for a more historical boat tour, then the pirate boat from Kemer Beach to Phaselis Bay is the bout tour for you. As you discover the stunning bays around the Mediterranean ocean, you’ll be transported by a pirate-themed Gallion, which looks like something out of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The ship will take you to the ancient Greek and Roman city of Phaselis, which is now an open-air  museum in Antalya . The city is now in ruins, which are said to date back to the 7th century BCE.

Wander around the agora and amphitheater, former Roman Baths, and aqueducts, before heading back to the ship to do some more exploring.

Stop 2: Snorkelling at Paradise Bay

Phaselis-Beach-Antalya-Flickr

You’ll have some time to swim in the shallow waters of Phaselis, before having lunch. Then, you’ll sail to Paradise Bay, which as you can imagine by the name, is a stunning beach. You might also get to see the beautiful Mehmet Ali Bükü bay for swimming if there’s time.

Stop 3: See the coral reefs at Alaca Water

The final stop on your journey is the Alaca Water, a gorgeous inlet filled with coral, which is the perfect spot to do some snorkeling before returning home.

The entire tour takes around 6-8 hours, so do plan for a full day.

Day 3: Beach Day

Bordering the Mediterran Sea, Antalya’s beaches are some of the best in the country. Matter of fact, the Turkish Riviera has the nickname Turquoise Coast. It would be a shame to come to this stunning coastal region in Turkey and not spend a day at the beach.

Here are a few beaches we recommend adding to your 3-day Antalya itinerary…

Stop 1: Konyaaltı Beach

Konyaalti-Beach-Antalya

The first beach we suggest you visit is one that’s close to the city center. Konyaalti Beach is a stunning beach that stretches for 13 km, and gently declines into the clear turquoise water of the Mediterranean Sea, perfect for swimming!

Its gentle waves mean it’s a great beach to visit for families, and because it’s so large, you’ll find even when it’s crowded there is enough room for everyone.

The most magical part of swimming at Konyaalti Beach is having the dramatic Beydağları Mountains in the foreground. At certain times of the year, the mountains are topped with snow, which is a site to behold.

Konyaalti Beach is a pebble beach, meaning the water stays clean and clear. You will find plenty of bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers available to use here too.

Stop 2: Lara Beach

Lara-Beach-Antalya

Lara Beach is one of the most popular blue flag beaches on the Turkish Riviera. Boasting a long, sandy stretch of beach with crystal-clear turquoise waters, it is no wonder why Lara Beach in Antalya is so popular with visitors.

Lined with sun loungers and umbrellas that are available to rent for a low fee, this soft-sand beach is perfect for sunbathing and a must-visit on your trip to Antalya. You will be spoilt for choice with beach clubs and nice dining options to enjoy lunch overlooking the beach.

Located east of the city center, you can easily reach Lara Beach within 50 minutes using public transport or by car in 30 minutes. There are many facilities nearby, such as showers, bathrooms, and places for you to change.

Stop 3: Archaeological Museum in Side

side museum

To break up the journey from Antalya to Cleopatra Beach, we recommend stopping in Side. There are some fantastic beaches in Side, but it’s also a great place to grab some lunch or visit the iconic Side Museum, the archeological museum here.

Side Museum is a fascinating museum set in a former ancient bath house (Agora Bath) which is thought to have been built in the 2nd century AD.

The rectangular bathhouse is made up of five rooms; a cold room, a sweat room, two warm rooms, and hot room.

Today the museum is no longer a bath, but a museum showcasing the artifacts uncovered during exvacations of sites in the Side region between 1947 – 1967.

The museum contains statues, sarcophagi, ceramics, and glass and bronze findings. You can also see coins belonging to both the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.

Stop 4: Cleopatra Beach

Cleopatra-Beach-Alanya-Antalya

Lastly is Cleopatra Beach, which is the furthest beach from Antalya city, but is definitely worth the trek.

Named after the Egyptian queen herself, Cleopatra Beach is renowned for incredible blue waters, swimming, water sports, and great facilities. This famous blue-flag beach is situated in the small town of Alanya, a  popular destination for families  and international travelers alike.

The main characteristic of Cleopatra Beach is that it is a white sand beach. As well as the beach, there are many things to do in Alanya that make it worth a couple of days of your time if you can spare it. You will easily find great hotels, restaurants, and bars along the promenade, all of which are located near the beach to maximize the summer holiday experience.

The main beach is around two kilometers from the center of  Alanya  and is reachable by public transport.

If you are looking to partake in some water sports on your summer holiday then head to Cleopatra Beach and try your hand at sailing, kite surfing, or scuba diving.

The Best Antalya Itinerary for 4 Days

If you’re planning a 4-day Antalya itinerary, we recommend following the itinerary above, and on the fourth day, we are going to travel outside the city of Antalya.

We’re going to take a day trip from Antalya to some of the most fascinating historical landmarks in the area, and step back in time (metaphorically) to the Ancient City of Perge…

Day 4: Ancient City of Perge, Temple Of Apollo, and Aspendos Theatre

Visiting the Ancient City of Perge is a full day trip from Antalya, so set aside a full day to explore the city and its nearby historic attractions.

Stop 1: Ancient City of Perge

day trips near antalya

The Ancient City of Perge is a short distance outside Antalya city and was originally an ancient Lycian city, which later became the ancient Greek city of Pamphylia.

Pamphylia was the capital of the Roman province which is now called the Antalya Province, and so was a hugely important city in ancient times. It was even the birthplace of the famous Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga.

Today the city lies in ruins, but it’s still possible to make out where buildings, temples, and rooms once were by the remaining columns and walls.

Although you’re tempted to look up at the imposing columns of The Agora or be amazed at the well-maintained amphitheater, be sure to look down, and take a glimpse of the long central water channel that runs through the middle of the main street.

This channel contained a series of pools that were used to keep citizens cool in the arid climate.

Stop 2: Aspendos Ancient Theater

day trips near antalya

Located not too far away near the city of Side, is the Aspendos Theater . Aspendos was an ancient Greco-Roman city, and though much of the city is in ruins, the ancient theater is remarkably well preserved.

It is said that the construction of the theatre was the result of a competition by Marcus Aurelius, the Emporer of the time. The competition was to build a structure that would bring prosperity and wealth to the city, and the winner of the competition got to marry his daughter.

According to legend, two competitors made it to the finals, one of them constructed the aqueduct and the canal system which supplied the city with running water, and the other built the theater.

When the ruler came to inspect the theater, he stood at the highest point of the structure and heard a whisper, telling him that his daughter was to be the wife of the builder. When he turned to the stage, he saw the builder standing there and was so impressed by the acoustics, awarded him the winner.

Stop 3: Temple of Apollo

day trips near antalya

Back towards the city of Side, lies The Temple of Apollo, a Roman temple built roughly around 150 A.D. It was dedicated to Apollo, the Greek and Roman god of music, light, and harmony.

Today only five columns remain of the temple, which stands tall against a backdrop of the Mediterranean Ocean behind.

There is not much to see, but it’s worth swinging by since it’s on the way back to Antalya.

Stop 4: Kursunlu Waterfalls

kursunlu-waterfall-Antalya

The Kursunlu Waterfall is the perfect place to cool off after a day of exploring. On your way back towards Antalya, stop off at the Kursunlu Waterfall Nature Park, a 587-hectare green space with plenty of trails, picnic areas, and recreation space.

Inside the park stands an 18-meter waterfall that empties into 7 smaller pools, and is surrounded by gorgeous natural beauty. Unfortunately, this is not a place where travelers can swim in.

The water that flows down the river is a deep, rich, blue color and offers visitors a nice backdrop for their photos. Another beautiful feature is a green, mossy wall behind the waterfall.

The walk to the waterfall is around two kilometers. However, for those who are keen hikers, there is a longer option through the national park that takes three hours and follows along the river. Visitors can even go behind the Kurşunlu Waterfall to a hidden cave to take photos and cool off with the spray from the water.

There is a small fee to enter, but the park is well equipped with toilets, paved paths, free parking, Turkish restaurants, and more for visitors to enjoy.

The Best Antalya Itinerary for 5 Days

If you have 5-days in Antalya, then we recommend following the Antalya itinerary above and spending your fifth-day hiking. Antalya is surrounded by mountains and stunning nature, so go out and explore it!

Day 5: Hiking and Whitewater Rafting in Koprulu Canyon

You’ll need to allow a full day to explore the beauty of the Kaprulu Canyon. Make sure you pack a change of clothes as you’re going to need them after you’ve been white water rafting!

Stop 1: White Water Rafting

day trips near antalya

The Koprulu Canyon National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty just outside the city of Antalya. It’s filled with pine forests, mountainous hiking trails, and of course, the beautiful Koprulu Canyon with the Köprü River running through it.

One of the most popular things to do at Koprulu Canyon is to engage in watersports, such as white water rafting, kayaking or canoeing.

Whitewater rafting is certainly the most adventurous, and if you have never done it before, this is the perfect place to try it.

The white water rafting route splits into two canyons, one is a narrow canyon with warm water and surrounded by sheer rock cliffs, while the other is wide, with cold water and surrounded by forested cliffs and natural waterfalls.

day trips near antalya

The diversity of the route makes it incredibly fun. You get the thrill of adventure mixed with the serene beauty of nature around you.

Some of the water is quite rocky and has fast-flowing water, so children under 10 are not allowed with most tour companies.

As you sail down the waters, be sure to keep your eyes on the lookout for the Oluk Bridge and Bugrum Bridge on the Kocadere Stream, which are some excellent examples of Roman engineering.

Stop 2: Quad Bike or Hike in the Pine Forest

After white water rafting, it’s time to explore the natural beauty of the park. Head out on one of the several hiking trails, or better yet, climb on a quad bike and soar through the trails in the pine forest!

day trips near antalya

Stop 3: Zip Line Experience

If you haven’t had enough adrenaline for one day, finish off with a zip-line experience! The zip line course in Koprulu Canyon has a 250-meter rope that extends over Kopru Cay.

Whizz through the air and soar above the canopies of the trees and take in the scenes of the river below. The whole ziplining experience only takes about half an hour so it’s the perfect end to an action-packed day!

Seven Day Itinerary for Antalya

If you have a full week at your disposal, then we recommend you follow the itinerary for Antalya above, and on the sixth day go West towards Kemer and visit the Lycia Rock Tombs and The Sunken City of Kekova.

These are two iconic historic landmarks in Turkey and offer a unique glimpse into another era in the past.

day trips near antalya

Use your seventh day as a buffer day to see the attractions you weren’t able to get to and do all the things you missed. There are always more beaches to see, or you can go and take a refreshing dip in one of Antalya’s waterfalls , such as the Upper Duden Waterfalls.

We all need a little relaxation, and no doubt you’ve got your eyes set on one of Antalya’s world-class resorts. So why not enjoy the facilities a little?

We’re not the type of traveler to spend the whole time in the hotel, but if you’re paying for the facilities, make sure you use them. Spend the morning splashing in the pool or check out the spa.

Getting Around Antalya

Antalya is very easy to get around. The city of very walkable, since most of the main attractions is located in the Old Town, which is also within walking distance of the main beach in Antalya.

There is a public bus network that takes you out of the main city to some of the beaches in the Antalya region, and it’s also possible to do some of these day trips on the public bus too.

Antalya-Tram

However, we don’t recommend it. Buses don’t run as frequently as you would need them to in order to maximize time and they also run on Turkish time, meaning they might not show up at the time they are scheduled.

If you can, we recommend hiring a car. This way you can easily drive from place to place without having to worry about whether the bus will turn up or not.

Of course, if you don’t drive, it’s entirely possible to do it all using public transport but there may be some attractions on this list you will need to skip – or you just stay longer.

Tips for Visiting Antalya

To help you have the best trip to Antalya, here are a few words of advice:

  • Go slow and don’t try to pack it all in. I know these itineraries are jam-packed, but you’re going to exhaust yourself trying to see every beach and historical landmark.
  • Hire a car. It will honestly save you so much time and stress by doing everything yourself and driving.
  • Download the MapsMe App. This is an offline satellite GPS and is perfect for those who are planning on hiking around Antalya as you can follow the trails offline.
  • Prepare for hot weather. Being by the coast, Antalya has a lovely sea breeze which can often make you forget about how hot it is. Wear sun protection and a sun hat and make sure you drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel like you need it.
  • Take out cash . Some establishments in Antalya don’t accept credit cards.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Antalya?

Hidirlik-Tower-Antalya

Antalya is an all-year-round destination, so the best time to visit Antalya largely depends on your preferences for weather and crowd sizes.

If you prefer warm weather and don’t mind the heat and big crowds, the best time to visit is between June and September. July is the hottest month with daily maximum temperatures averaging around 35°C.

However, if you’re looking for more mild weather, the periods from March to May and October to November are considered ideal. During this time, the weather is generally pleasant throughout the day and you can enjoy all the things to do in Antalya including swimming in the sea, sunbathing on the beach, exploring the Old Town, and much more.

How To Get To Antalya, Turkey?

There are many ways to get to Antalya, but for the majority of the travelers, you’ll be getting to Antalya with one of the following three ways:

Flying to Antalya is perhaps the easiest way to get to Antalya. Antalya has its own airport called the Antalya Airport (AYT) and it is about 13.5 km (8.4 mi) away from the historic center – Kaleici. It takes around 30 minutes to drive from the airport to the Kaleici, however, it could take considerably longer when there is traffic, which is quite often.

Getting From Antalya Airport To Historic City Center

Getting to Antalya Airport to the historic center is very easy, especially since there is a tram line that takes you within walking distance from the Kaleici. The T1A AntRay Tram departs just outside of Antalya Airport and takes a little over an hour to get to the city center. It is the cheapest and most efficient way to get into the city.

Turkey has an extensive network of long-distance buses and minibusses that can take you to pretty much anywhere you want. If you want to get to Antalya by bus, you’ll need to take a long-distance bus from anywhere in the country to Antalya Şehirlerarası Otobüs Terminali , Antalya main bus station.

From there, you can take a tram straight into the city center.

By Rental Car

If you have rented a car in Turkey, then it is easy to get to Antalya. Turkey’s highways and roads are generally in good conditions, but please beware of reckless drivers. There tend to be a lot of aggressive ones.

Renting a car in Antalya is also a good option, because there are many day trips and attractions in the surrounding region worth checking out. Hidden gems like Kas, Side, Alanya, Aspendos, and Kemer are great to visit for those with a car.

Visiting Antalya FAQs

What is the best month to visit antalya.

2 thoughts on “Antalya Itinerary: 3, 4, 5 or 7 Day Options”

Hi is antalya good to visit in november… beaches can be seen .. what do you recommend for november

Hi Chaya, yes Antalya would be good to visit in November. The weather is usually warm in the day time and good for a couple of hours on the beach, though it can get cold in the evenings. There’s not much chance of rain. It will be quiet in terms of tourism that time of year, but tours will still operate so you can see all the attractions. I definitely recommend visiting the Ancient City of Perge – it was a highlight on our trip to Antalya. If you like walks, it’s the perfect time of year to do hiking. You can hike a portion of the Lycian Way in a day.

1. Lower Duden waterfall (Karpuzkaldıran)

The lower Duden waterfall, locally known as Karpuzkaldıran, is a breathtaking natural wonder that stands as one of Antalya’s highlights.

Cascading from a height of 40 meters into the Mediterranean Sea, it offers a picturesque scene. Therefore, Duden Waterfall is a must-visit attraction in Antalya.

It’s not often that you see a waterfall falling from a cliff directly into the sea. The last time we saw something similar was in Madeira .

Good to know: There are two Duden waterfalls, the upper and the lower, so don’t confuse them. The lower one falls into the ocean. (📍 location )

You can easily see this unique sight of Duden Waterfall from a sidewalk in Duden Park. But the best view is definitely from a boat which takes you directly in front of the waterfall from the ocean. Check it out here.

4. Waterfalls

Antalya’s surroundings have some beautiful waterfalls that are worth checking out. So, if you’re a nature fan, include these on your Antalya itinerary.

  • Kursunlu Waterfalls are about 20 km from Antalya. You can combine a visit to them with a visit to the Ancient City of Termessos.
  • Upper Duden Waterfalls , where you can also go behind them in a cave to get a unique perspective.
  • Uçansu Waterfalls , located around 60km away from Antalya, where you can even swim in one. There is also an upper waterfall to which you’ll need to trek for about an hour.

April and the rainy months (autumn and winter) are the best months to see Antalya’s waterfalls in full power. They’re pretty small or even dry in the summer, so this is something to remember. 🙂

Important: In many places in Turkey, camels and other animals might be used as photo props, especially around waterfalls, and are not treated well. Please don’t support this.

5. Pamukkale and Hierapolis

A day trip to Pamukkale, also known as Turkey’s cotton castle, is one of the top things to do in Antalya.

Pamukkale, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a natural wonder known for its stunning white travertine terraces and thermal springs. Formed over centuries by the calcium-rich waters, the terraces cascade down the hillside, creating a mesmerizing, otherworldly landscape.

Important: Keep in mind that the photos of Pamukkale going around social media are mostly heavily photoshopped and don’t show a realistic picture of the place. While we think it’s still very much worth seeing Pamukkale and Hierapolis, set your expectations. Read more about our experience here.

Getting there: Pamukkale is around 3,5 hours (approx. 240 km) drive from Antalya. You can drive to Pamukkale by yourself or book a guided tour.

6. Salda Lake

Salda Lake, or Salda Golu in Turkish, is often referred to as the Maldives of Turkey because of its white sandy beach and crystal clear turquoise water. Locals even refer to it as the “Saldives.”

The bathing season in Salda Lake is between June and September, but you can still visit it outside those months because the scenery is gorgeous, even if it’s too cold and windy to swim.

Arijana Tkalčec at Lake Salda in Turkey, antalya turkey travel guide

Getting here: Salda Lake is around 160 km away from Antalya. If you’re driving by yourself, you can combine a visit to Pamukkale and then Lake Salda on the way back. It will be a lot in one day, but it’s manageable and definitely worth it.

Not many tours include a visit to Lake Salda, but this one seems to stop there on the way to Pamukkale and Hierapolis.

7. Aspendos Theater

Aspendos is an ancient city known for its well-preserved Roman theater, one of the best-preserved in the world. Built in the 2nd century AD, it could seat up to 12,000 spectators and is one of the best Antalya attractions.

  • Must read: Ephesus Ancient City Visitor’s Guide

The theater at Aspendos is still used today for performances and festivals (such as the Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival), showcasing its remarkable architectural and historical significance.

Although the theater is the highlight of the archeological site, you can also walk around to see a few more ruins (agora, castle, basilica).

Public transport to Aspendos is more complicated but doable. From Antalya, take a bus to Serik and then a dolmuş (local minibus) to Aspendos.

Alternatively, to maximize your time, join a tour that visits Aspendos and a few other attractions on the same day ( like this one ).

We wanted to see Aspendos on the way to Konya, the next stop of our big Turkey road trip . Unfortunately, we only managed to get in front of the theater. We were followed by a storm and heavy rain from Antalya, so we didn’t go in.

8. Termessos Ancient City

Termessos, an ancient city known for its stunning mountain setting and well-preserved ruins, is a great place to visit in Antalya. This archaeological site offers a glimpse into the past with its impressive theater, agora, and necropolis. Surrounded by the Taurus Mountains, Termessos provides a unique and picturesque historical experience.

Termessos is a much less visited attraction than some other archeological places around the area, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for something less crowded.

Good to know: Be prepared to hike a bit. It takes 20 to 45 minutes of a bit steeper hike to reach the ancient city from a parking lot.

Getting here: Termessos Ruins are about a one-hour drive (40 km) from Antalya. The easiest way to get there is by renting a car. There is no public transport to take you there. Alternatively, join this hiking tour from Antalya.

Where to stay in Antalya?

The best places to stay in Antalya are at one of the many beachside resorts or in the old town of Kaleici.

Our recommended stays:

  • Adalya Port Hotel – centrally located right above the old marina of Antalya with free parking (usually hard to find in the Old Town)

If you want better deals or bigger apartments with a kitchen, consider going a bit outside the central area. Antalya is pretty big, so there are plenty of accommodations for all budgets.

Best time to visit Antalya

Antalya has a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and cool and mild winters.

Therefore, the ideal time to visit Antalya is in spring, from mid-March to June , and in fall, from mid-September to mid-November , when the temperatures are pleasant, and the area isn’t too busy, like in the peak summer season.

June to September are the hottest months in Antalya, Turkey, and temperatures average from 21 Celsius (the lowest) to 35 Celsius (the highest). It’s the peak season in Antalya, which means the area gets crowded and the prices higher.

Colder weather in Antalya starts in November and lasts till the end of March. January is the coldest month in Antalya.

We swam at the Konyaalti beach at the end of October, and we’ve heard of many people enjoying the beaches even further into the end of the year, up until January. So, it’s definitely worth visiting Antalya, even in the off-season.

Is it worth visiting? – Personal thoughts

Antalya is absolutely worth visiting! Beautiful beaches, turquoise water, nature, historical attractions, many fun activities, nightlife, shopping, and closeness to other beautiful coastal cities are just some reasons you should visit Antalya. There’s something for everyone.

Unfortunately, we visited Antalya towards the end of our Turkey road trip , so we were already exhausted. Therefore, we didn’t manage to see everything we wanted from Antalya, but we visited all the highlights. And if you’re unlucky like us and only have one good day in Antalya, you can still see a lot in 24 hours.

However, we want to return to see more of Antalya’s surroundings, especially spots around Alanya and Alanya itself. It looks amazing.

Everything you need to know about your first trip to Kyrgyzstan

May 24, 2024 • 8 min read

day trips near antalya

Here's everything you need to know to plan the perfect trip to Kyrgyzstan © Tuul & Bruno Morandi / Getty Images

Formally the Kyrgyz Republic, to everyone but the suits in parliament, this country is called  Kyrgyzstan .

Descending towards Bishkek’s Manas airport, the snow-capped peaks of the Tien Shan run to the southern horizon. These mountains, dappled with alpine lakes and the high glaciers that feed them, are the setting beneath which Kyrgyz nomadic culture was born – and where those cultural traditions have seen a strong resurgence since the end of the Soviet period.

Visit for the absolute freedom of the outdoors – often it’s just you and the shepherds for a hundred kilometers – but also the opportunity for kayaking and paddle-boarding on Issyk-Köl, wildlife safaris searching for snow leopards or birdwatching trips during the migration season, and to stroll through the ruins of Silk Routes cities and reconstructed caravansary alongside merchant trails that have been in use for over 1200 years.

Though Kyrgyzstan remains a somewhat niche travel destination – for now – it’s the kind of place that sees first-time visitors plotting their return before they’ve even left the country.

A cross-country skiier on a snow-filled mountain

When should I go to Kyrgyzstan?

Summer is the best time to travel to Kyrgyzstan, with the country’s major horse trekking and hiking destinations widely accessible from late June through September. This is also the busiest period, though apart from the most popular handful of destinations it’s rare to see tourist crowds. Visit one of the many Community-Based Tourism festivals held across the country in the summer months, dedicated to horse sports, Manas-epic storytelling, Salburuun eagle hunting, and more.

Winter is considerably less popular among travelers from afar (though Kazakhs and Uzbeks have long been in the know!) but for powder hounds and culture-loving travelers, late December into February is an excellent alternative to a summer visit. Ski resorts around Bishkek and Karakol are pleasant apart from the crowded New Year holiday period, and backcountry yurt lodges promise untouched powder and absolute solitude throughout the season. While the high-mountain yurt camps are closed, this is a great time to drop in at rural felt workshops or get a one-on-one demonstration of eagle hunting from the masters themselves.

How much time should I spend in Kyrgyzstan?

Any Kyrgyzstan travel itinerary will benefit from more time than you have available – driving on mountainous roads and long periods on foot or horseback means that slow travel is the default. With just a few nights it’s possible to see the monuments, museums, and Soviet-era architecture of Bishkek and get out for a day in nature at nearby Ala-Archa National Park or Alamedin valley.

To make any multiday treks or horse trips you’ll want at least a week, assuming you’ll wander only as far as Chuy or Issyk Köl regions and then right back to Bishkek, and even that’s cutting it tight. A trip that explores more of the country or hopes to get to the remote edges of Kyrgyzstan would ideally last three to four weeks (or more), following only a loose itinerary and with plenty of potential for side trips down unmarked 4WD tracks or hiking trails.

A city square with distant mountains

How do I get to Kyrgyzstan?

Traveling to Bishkek's Manas airport in Kyrgyzstan from the US is possible with one-stop itineraries via Beijing (China Southern), Dubai ( FlyDubai / Emirates ), or Istanbul ( Turkish ). Getting to Kyrgyzstan from the UK or other European countries potentially adds Abu Dhabi ( Wizz Air ), Almaty ( Air Astana ), Antalya ( Pegasus ), Baku ( Azerbaijan Air ), and Tashkent ( Uzbekistan Airways ) among others.

Many visitors also enter overland on longer multicountry itineraries across Central Asia , though the partial closure of the Tajik border for several years leaves China, Kazakhstan, or Uzbekistan as straightforward border crossings. Conventional wisdom for crossings near major cities like Osh and Bishkek is to head out in the morning as lines get progressively longer throughout the day.

Is it easy to get around in Kyrgyzstan?

Within the country, other than a handful of short flights between major cities, all travel is overland on a vast informal network of marshrutka minivans and shared taxis or very occasionally buses. Locals largely use mobile messenger apps like Telegram to coordinate rides, but it’s still possible to show up to the bus station and haggle with drivers directly. In most cases vehicles depart when full and any timetables are little more than a general guideline.

Visitors looking to go into the mountains – including to the trailhead for popular Ala-Köl lake  – will need to arrange private hire or be prepared to walk beyond settlements where the marshrutkas stop. Hitchhiking remains common in rural areas, with drivers typically expecting a small payment for gas. Remember though that hitching is never entirely safe and travelers should understand that they are taking a small but potentially serious risk.

A sole hiker walking near the edge of a turquoise alpine lake

What are the top things to do in Kyrgyzstan?

Live like a nomad with a yurtstay.

Most travelers beeline to the nearest trailhead for multiday hikes or horseback treks, where they might find the unique combination of alpine landscapes and traditions of pastoralist hospitality that truly make the country special. Fall asleep at 3000m (9843ft) with a view of the Milky Way through a yurt’s roof, share a cup of fermented horse milk with your host before breakfast, or ride alongside shepherds as they round up the herds to push a journey to something beyond a mere outdoors adventure.

Escape to Lake Son-Köl

On a short visit, a quick trip to Lake Son-Köl and back is the easiest way to experience Kyrgyzstan's great outdoors. The play of changing light against the lake and encircling mountains, the lack of cell signal and city noise, and the opportunity for a quick cold swim or a horseback trot along the shore give a good quick introduction to some of the best aspects of travel in the country.

Camp in Issyk-Köl and hike the Ala-Köl Pass

Add a couple more nights to make a loop around Lake Issyk-Köl, ideally staying at a tourist yurt camp or wild camping on a deserted beach, or head straight to Karakol to start the two- to three-day hike over the 3907m (12,818ft) Ala-Köl Pass for unsurpassed views of the eponymous lake and surrounding 5000m (16,404ft) peaks.

Loop around the south of Kyrgyzstan

If your Kyrgyzstan travel itinerary is measured in weeks rather than days, consider the long rugged loop through Naryn and Kazarman to the south of the country, stopping in the walnut forests of Arslanbob or "southern capital" Osh before trekking in the Alay Valley; returning to Bishkek via Sary Chelek lake and the Suusamyr valley.

My favorite thing to do in Kyrgyzstan

For me the most remarkable place in Kyrgyzstan is Sailmaluu Tash , a small mountain valley near Kazarman that’s only accessible for about a month each year. While the nature is beautiful the real draw is apparent from the name: "Embroidered Stones." Spread across the valley are thousands of basalt slabs engraved with up to 10,000 petroglyphs, the earliest of which have been dated to the third millennia BCE. Scenes of hunting and farming, worship and war are visual short stories with every step, while the wider whole tells of thousands of years of pilgrimage to and veneration in this valley. Walking through the fields of stones is surreal, and it makes the shamanistic Tengrism tradition of ancient Kyrgyz tribes feel tangible in a way nowhere else in the country can match.

How much money do I need to travel in Kyrgyzstan?

Kyrgyzstan will feel like good value for visitors traveling with strong currencies, with the Kyrgyz som mostly between 80–90som to $1 in recent years. In many cases transportation will be the biggest expense, whether that’s a private driver for a full tour or just point-to-point car hire for pickup and dropoff at trailheads not serviced by shared transport.

Expect these average daily costs:

  • Hostel bed: from 700som
  • Family guesthouse bed: from 1000som
  • Bed in a tourist yurt camp: from 1500som
  • Hotel room for two: from 3500som
  • Intra-city bus ride: 20som
  • Bus Bishkek–Karakol: 580som
  • Private car Bishkek–Karakol: from 8000som
  • Samsa from a street stall: from 100som
  • Chuchuk horse sausage: from 700som
  • Restaurant dinner for two: from 1200som
  • Espresso-based coffee: from 220som
  • Beer/pint at the bar: from 180som

What should I pack for Kyrgyzstan?

Bring lots of layers, no matter the forecast. At high altitudes (including popular Son-Köl) the weather can swing through all four seasons in just a few hours. Especially if camping, pack for the possibility of rain and snow and something to keep you warm in the night.

What languages are spoken?

English is only common in the tourism industry or with well-educated city dwellers. Travelers with a baseline of Russian can get around fine, but if you’re starting from scratch it’s worth focusing on simple Kyrgyz instead, as many locals will be delighted that you’ve made the effort. Here are a few key phrases to start you off:

  • Hello – salam
  • Goodbye – jakshy kalyngydzar
  • Thank you – rakhmat
  • Do you speak English? – siz angliyscha süylöy süzbü?

(In our pronunciation guides, ng is pronounced as in "sing", ö as the "u" in "fur" and ü as the "ew" in "few".)
