Eminem 'in talks' for Australian stadium tour in 2024

Eminem is tipped to be coming Down Under in the very near future.

The American rapper, 50, was previously rumoured to be coming to Australia for a tour in 2023, but next year is looking more likely according to several sources. 

Eminem’s Australian tour promoter Paul Dainty claims he is trying to convince the hip hop star to do stadium spectaculars in 2024.

Speaking to the Herald Sun's Page 13 , Dainty said, 'Nothing is locked in, there are no dates or venues yet, but we're hoping. We are in talks.'

Should Eminem agree, he would be joining a cavalcade of superstars performing at stadiums this summer, including The Weeknd , Paul McCartney, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Foo Fighters, Pink and Taylor Swift .

Earlier this year, it was reported that Eminem is '100 per cent in negotiations' to tour Australia, but with no indication that it would be a stadium show.

According to radio host Mark 'Roo' Ricciuto, the tour is not a done deal yet but talks are happening.

Speaking on his radio show, 104.7 Triple M in June, Mark said a source told him the tour will happen early to mid-next year, after claims Slim Shady will make it to Aussie shores at the end of 2023.

'They're 100 per cent in negotiations… but it's not done yet. Ticketek are involved and Adelaide Oval,' Mark said.

'It won't be in 2023… it will be between the Adelaide Oval Test match against the West Indies and Round 1 of the football,' he added.

That places the concert dates somewhere between late January 2024 and mid-March 2024.

Eminem, who also goes by the stage name Slim Shady, is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time.

The rapper, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, rose to fame with his hit songs Lose Yourself, Without Me and Cleanin' Out My Closet.

The last time he toured Australia was back in 2019. He also toured the country in 2013.

Australian promoter TEG Dainty has confirmed global rap star Eminem will bring his Rapture tour Down Under for a second time, announcing a five-show stadium tour of Australia and New Zealand in February.

Confidential revealed last week that the promoter had approached venues in Brisbane to host the February 20 concert, which will be held at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC).

Suncorp Stadium was forced to decline the offer due to a busy event schedule.

The Rapture tour will begin in Brisbane and then head to Sydney and Melbourne and first ever shows in Perth and Wellington, New Zealand.

Eminem’s Australian fanbase has been lobbying for tour dates to be added in the region.

Special guests will be announced shortly for this second instalment of the Rapture 2019 stadium tour.

In August, the 15-time Grammy award winner and biggest-selling rapper of all time surprised fans with an unannounced 10th studio album Kamikaze , which spent four straight weeks on top of the ARIA albums charts.

Eminem last visited Australia for 2014’s Rapture tour which sold-out at stadiums around the country, including Suncorp Stadium.

TEG Dainty president and CEO Paul Dainty said Eminem is a global superstar and his live shows were phenomenal.

“We’re proud to once again present his Australian tour,” he said.

Tickets for Eminem’s Rapture tour go on sale at 2pm next Monday, October 22, at Ticketek.

A VISA cardholder pre-sale will begin at 10am from this Wednesday to Friday.

It has taken him 20 years to get here but Eminem’s first Perth concert didn’t disappoint the massive crowd that turned out at Optus Stadium.

The 46-year-old delivered 30 songs, including his best-known hits, with great energy in his last Australian show of the Rapture 2019 tour.

It was a party-like atmosphere as diehard fans sang along.

The crowd was incredibly diverse - from grandparents to primary school-aged children, all had a great time.

There wasn’t much interaction between Eminem and the fans themselves, but no one seemed to care as he performed hit after hit with so much spirit.

Eminem Rumoured To Tour Australia This Year

“I heard a big name is coming to town at the end of the year and it's Eminem..." Could it be?

Someone at Ticketek  might have let details about a potential Eminem  Australian tour slip to a friend, an anonymous caller told Triple M yesterday (6 June).

Yesterday morning, a caller rang 104.7 Triple M Adelaide during the station’s Rumour Mill breakfast segment. Joining Roo, Ditts & Loz , the caller claimed that Ticketek is in talks with owners at Adelaide Oval for  The Eminem Show – a venue that holds approximately 53,000 people.

“I heard a big name is coming to town at the end of the year and it's Eminem... a friend of a friend let it slip from Ticketek,” the anonymous caller claimed. “They [Ticketek] are currently working with Adelaide Oval to sort out a venue,” for The Real Slim Shady , the caller added.

On Thursday, 8 June, Mark 'Roo' Ricciuto also addressed the Eminem touring rumours on his 104.7 Triple M show, stating that “They're 100 per cent in negotiations… but it's not done yet. Ticketek are involved and Adelaide Oval,” Daily Mail reports.

Ricciuto continued, “It won't be in 2023… it will be between the Adelaide Oval Test match against the West Indies and Round one of the football.” According to Ricciuto’s sources and prediction, the rumoured Eminem tour should take place at any point between January and mid-March 2024.

The Daily Mail reached out to representatives for Eminem for comment.

Eminem last toured Australia in 2019. 60,500 was the evening's official headcount at his Perth stop , with many fans in attendance waiting as long as 20 years – since the release of the rapper’s major-label debut album The Slim Shady LP in 1999 – to finally see him in WA.

His Melbourne gig also broke the MCG’s live concert attendance record with 80,708 fans at the gig, beating the record previously set by the Sound Relief concert in 2009, which was attended by 80,518 people. 

However, Ed Sheeran smashed that record earlier this year , selling a mind-boggling number of over 107,000 tickets for just one night. His second show in Melbourne – both at the MCG – sold over 100,000 tickets. Will Eminem reclaim his record and beat Ed Sheeran upon his return?

Last month, Sheeran revealed that listening and rapping along to Eminem’s classic 2000 album,  The Marshall Mathers LP,  cured his stutter as a nine-year-old.

Appearing on The Howard Stern Show , Sheeran explained, "(My uncle) just said to my dad, 'This guy is the next Bob Dylan. You gotta let him listen. And by learning that record - and rapping it back to back to back to back - it cured my stutter."

Opening up about his friendship with the rap music icon, Sheeran continued, "I think it's different with Eminem because he is quite reclusive, doesn't see or meet that many people. 

"I've known him now (for) six years and we've done three songs together; I've played with him twice onstage. He's another person I really relate to, as he lives in his hometown still and has his eco-system around him.”

Detroit rap icon Eminem will perform in Perth for the first time, playing at Optus Stadium on February 27 as part of a major Australian and New Zealand stadium tour, Rapture 2019.

Eminem’s live show illustrates why he remains the “greatest in the world” of hip-hop, with his rapid-fire flow, expansive phrasing and acerbic lyrics.

His previous Australian visits in 2011 and 2014 saw sold-out stadiums across the country.

“Everything that made Slim Shady one of the most essential voices of his generation was on stage this weekend,” Rolling Stone said of Eminem’s 2018 headline Coachella set.

When the 15-time Grammy award winner and biggest-selling rapper of all time dropped his surprise 10th studio album Kamikaze, unannounced, on August 31 this year, it went straight to No.1 on the ARIA Australian Albums chart.

It retained pole position for four consecutive weeks, becoming the MC’s ninth chart-topping album in this country.

Killshot, Eminem’s standalone single, scored the highest 24-hour YouTube debut for a hip-hop video (the third-highest music video debut overall) upon its release last month.

Tickets for Eminem’s Rapture 2019 Optus Stadium concert go on sale on Monday, October 22, with Visa cardholders able to purchase pre-sale tickets from October 17-19. Book at Ticketek.

According to Daily Mail, Eminem is preparing for the Australia tour later this year.

On Tuesday, an unidentified caller claimed to have heard about the great news from a source at Ticketek Australia on 104.7 Triple M. The caller claimed that Eminem would perform at Adelaide Oval, which has the capacity about 53,000 people.

“I heard a big name is coming to town at the end of the year and it’s Eminem.. a friend of a friend let it slip from Ticketek. They are currently working with Adelaide Oval to sort out a venue.” – the caller claimed.

After bagging another No. 1 on the Australian albums chart with Kamikaze – released through Interscope/Universal Music – Eminem will return to Australia next February for another run of stadium dates, his first in Australasia for almost five years.

The superstar rapper will kick off the Australian leg of his Rapture jaunt on 20 February in Brisbane, then visit Sydney (22 February), Melbourne (24 February) and, finally, Perth (27 February), for his first-ever concert on the west coast. Marshall Mathers will then take his show to Wellington, New Zealand for the first time on 2 March.

Eminem previously visited Australia and New Zealand in 2014 for the first instalment of his Rapture Tour. All shows on that trip sold out briskly, according to Paul Dainty, who has organized all of Eminem’s concerts in Australia this decade and is behind the upcoming tour.

“Eminem is a global superstar and his live shows are phenomenal, we’re proud to once again present his Australian tour,” said Dainty, president and CEO of TEG Dainty. Dates on Eminem’s 2011 tour of Australasia sold out in just 30 minutes, Dainty reported at the time.

Eminem’s surprise release Kamikaze shot to No. 1 on Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart last month, his ninth No. 1 on the survey. The album ruled for four consecutive weeks and currently sits at No. 2. Of his 10 albums, only The Eminem Show (seven weeks in 2002) and Recovery (nine weeks in 2010) have spent more time at the summit.

Presales for Rapture 2019 commence this Wednesday, 17 October and the general on sale starts next Monday, 22 October.

Eminem plays the following Australasian dates in 2019:

February 20 – QSAC, Brisbane February 22 – ANZ Stadium, Sydney February 24 – Melbourne Cricket Ground February 27 – Optus Stadium, Perth March 2 – Westpac Stadium, Wellington.

Eminem 2019 Australian Tour Dates Announced

Following an unfortunate leak yesterday, Eminem (real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III) has announced a 2019 Australian tour in support of his latest album, Kamikaze .

The rapper, who last toured Australia in 2014, is now set to perform in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and (for the very first time) Perth in February 2019, as part of the second instalment of his Rapture 2019 stadium tour.

Eminem will hit Brisbane’s QSAC on Wednesday, 20th February, before hitting Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on Friday, 22nd February, Melbourne’s MCG on Sunday, 24th February and Perth’s Optus Stadium on Wednesday, 27th February.

The tour was inadvertently announced last night, when News Corp Australia momentarily published details about the impending tour, including the fact that it doesn’t include a stop in Adelaide.

Kamikaze was released without almost any warning back in August this year, as the follow-up to Mathers’ 2017 album Revival .

The new album features contributions from the likes of Royce Da 5’9”, Joyner Lucas and Jessie Reyez, and even samples an Australian artist on the track ‘Good Guy’.

Kamikaze was executive produced by Dr. Dre and features additional writing contributions from the likes of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon (‘Fall’) and Little Dragon (‘Normal’). The track ‘Greatest’ also interpolates Kendrick Lamar’s ‘HUMBLE.’.

A recent rumour about Eminem’s upcoming tour finds more confirmations, but fans are not going to be happy about it.

The same Daily Mail Australia that first published an article about an anonymous call to a radio station with info on negotiations between Em’s management and local Australian promoters, followed up on that with new facts.

According to radio host Mark “Roo” Ricciuto, there are ongoing negotiations for Eminem to tour Australia next year. While the tour hasn’t been finalized, discussions are taking place. Mark shared this information on his radio show, 104.7 Triple M, on Thursday. He mentioned that a source informed him that the tour is likely to take place in the early to mid-next year, contradicting previous claims that Slim Shady would visit Australia towards the end of 2023.

Mark stated that negotiations are progressing at a full pace, with Ticketek and Adelaide Oval being involved in the process. However, he emphasized that the deal is not yet confirmed. He clarified that the tour is expected to occur between the Adelaide Oval Test match against the West Indies and Round 1 of the football season, ruling out the possibility of it happening in 2023.

How We Can Exercise Away Addiction and Depression

Exorcise addictive and depressive demons the way celebrities do — with exercise. You’ve probably heard how many famous people have chosen exercise to effectively prevent and even treat mental health problems like addictions and depression . This is because exercise helps support and normalize mood-stabilizing neurochemicals like dopamine and glutamate, as well as serotonin.

Brain Chemicals Generated by Exercise

One key neurochemical that may not trip off your tongue is brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This is a protein in the brain and spinal cord that is vital for developing and maintaining the central nervous system (CNS). BDNF is especially concentrated in the hippocampus, cortex, and basal forebrain. This substance promotes the survival of nerve cells (neurons) by helping growth, maturation, and maintenance. It also helps control synaptic plasticity — the ability of brain connections to change and adapt over time — and consequently is important for learning and memory . Low levels of BDNF can cause difficulties in learning new things, as well as lead to depression and mood swings.

Strangely, exercise and using drugs of abuse act on similar parts of the brain. For example, each similarly activates the reward pathway, triggering the release of feel-good chemicals like serotonin and dopamine. This is another reason why people turn to drugs repeatedly. However, exercising itself may build up the amount of dopamine, regenerative proteins, and other synapses. As a result, these added connections increase the quantity of available dopamine and support other brain chemicals. The end result is feeling much better.

Eminem, Addiction, and Exercise

Intense physical exercise has received major attention as an effective way to reduce cravings and remain sober by celebrities like the rapper Eminem. In 2024, Em posted his annual updated AA pin on his social media account, where he reported being sober 16 years . He explained drugs had loomed large in his life after the release of his 1999 album, The Slim Shady LP . The singer didn’t think he had a problem; however, as his fame increased and drugs became more plentiful — especially on tour — Eminem realized he was battling addiction. Things were bad in 2000-2002 when he was taking Vicodin, Valium, and alcohol . The performer said he took “75 to 80 Valiums” a night.

Eminem battled his addiction using running and exercise. He also did push-ups and sit-ups, tried boxing, and attended recovery meetings. Eventually, he moved to the “Body Beast” workout, using free weights, the pullup bar, and the bench.

The Experts Explain It All

According to the scientist who showed exercise could help people addicted to cocaine, Panayotis K. Thanos , Director of Behavioral Neuropharmacology and Neuroimaging Laboratory, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, “Our research has proven aerobic exercise has many benefits, but it has a profound effect on dopamine and the dopamine receptor.” Adds Thanos, “Aerobic exercise can decrease drug-seeking behaviors, cocaine preference, cocaine relapse , and cocaine stress-induced reinstatement.” Exercise also appears to have the same potential positive effects on cigarette smokers, opioid users, and others with drug use disorders.

Why People Resist Exercise as a Treatment for Drug Abuse or Depression

Why do people shun exercise as a possible answer to substance abuse or severe depression? I asked former Olympian and Olympic psychiatrist Dave Baron this question.

Baron said, “People don't see exercise as an intervention, but more of a lifestyle choice. The best available scientific data is overwhelmingly positive yet is not well-appreciated by the general public. In addition, exercise is not aggressively promoted, as the pharma industry does with medications.” Baron says too many people regard exercise like their gym class—an annoying and sweaty requirement they left back in high school.

Types of Problems Exercise Can Improve

Most data supports the role of exercise in the following:

Curbing cravings. After cutting down or off drugs, the brain sends alarm or anxiety signals caused by abstinence. These symptoms may be intense and may also drive relapse. Many people who successfully avoid drugs still may develop urges to use them again. Exercise is an excellent way to reduce the intensity of cravings, make them feel much less powerful, and help the recovering person control or reduce the frequency and intensity of these cravings.

Replacing triggers for abuse. It’s best for substance abusers to trade their old drug buddies in for some new exercise pals. Exercises like running in a group or club or training with a class and trainer, can become a positive routine—an important activity to perform and build up a person’s social network . This change of places, people, and things is important, as key recovery axioms include avoiding triggering people, places, or things and reminding the person of drugs used when abuse formerly was an active problem.

Improving sleep. If a person has a substance use disorder (SUD), often they take drugs to sleep. It is also true that recovering SUD patients suffer sleep problems as they struggle to avoid drugs or alcohol. Regular exercise helps individuals fall asleep faster and obtain a better quality of rest at night.

Helping the body and brain become stronger. Abused drugs have numerous harmful effects on the heart, lungs, liver, brain and immune functions. In contrast, exercise has the opposite effect. Exercise can also help recovering people think more clearly; often they report their mind starts working much better. Regular physical activity continues this positive process.

Improving self-image . Exercise can make people feel more self-control , which is very important for substance abusers who feel like they’ve lost control. Exercise also has positive anti-anxiety and antidepressant effects, making it easier to manage stressful situations and feelings.

What if Exercise Were a Medication?

With all the benefits described, I wondered if exercise might be treated differently if people compared the activity to taking a pill or other medication . Baron liked this idea and said, “If exercise were a medication in a double-blind FDA qualifying clinical trial, the trial would be stopped by the FDA, because exercise is so effective, and with virtually no side effects, that it would be unethical to not treat everyone with it.” Baron says that if exercise were a pill, it would be a blockbuster drug.

He continued, “Exercise has been shown effective in virtually every age range for virtually every form of psychopathology and as a primary and adjunctive treatment. It would be very difficult to find another treatment as effective and safe in maintaining mental and physical health, improving overall quality of life, and effectively treating psychopathology.”

Early research shows that aerobic exercise and resistance training may be most effective with addiction recovery. However, the evidence so far is insufficient to recommend one kind of physical activity over another. So if a person prefers yoga or mountain biking, either option may be helpful to combat addiction. Future studies should help us learn more and create programs tailored to individuals.

Considering Exercise and Depression

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is characterized by a depressed mood, loss of interest, and a reduced ability to experience pleasure in daily activities for at least two weeks. In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated 264 million people worldwide were affected by depression , or 3.8% of the population. The WHO also estimates that depression is the world's leading cause of disability.

Individuals with this disorder face an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lower back pain, and an overall decline in life quality. It is also the leading cause of suicide deaths worldwide, with an estimated incidence of up to 800,000 suicides annually.

Physical exercise is not only an effective intervention for depression, but researchers also report that exercise may be a viable adjunct treatment in combination with antidepressants .

Clinical practice guidelines recommend psychotherapy and/or pharmacotherapy for MDD. But at least 30% of people with depression have treatment-resistant depression, which means medications and therapy don’t help. Consequently, there is an urgent need to explore non-pharmacological and patient-centered strategies that are safe, feasible, and easily integrated into adult daily routines. A recent major study published in 2024 showed exercise is an effective depression treatment.

In addition, exercise apparently is about as effective for reducing depression as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or medications, although combining exercise with antidepressants may improve symptoms more than medication alone. The more intense the workout, the more effective at managing depression. But even low-intensity physical activity helps.

Current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance on treating depression in adults says the condition may respond to a variety of options, with group exercise recommended as cost-effective and easy to implement.

Commenting on the results of the study, Jonathan Roiser, professor of neuroscience and mental health at University College London, said, “The headline result is that all types of physical activity (especially aerobic exercise) cause a reduction in depressive symptoms ; a similar conclusion to many reviews over the past decade.”

Many people severely undervalue—or don’t even consider—that exercise decreases addictive cravings as well as depressive symptoms. People can exercise at home or in a gym or begin a walking or running program in their neighborhood or at a local mall after checking with their doctor.
