Dave Chisnall landed a nine-dart finish on his way to winning the Belgian Darts Open in Wieze on Sunday, ending a three-year wait for his 16th ranking title.

Chisnall struck perfection in the opening leg of his 7-4 semi-final win over Danny Noppert as he landed the first nine-darter on the European Tour since his own effort at the 2019 Gibraltar Darts Trophy.

Six-time TV event finalist Chisnall then went on to deny Andrew Gilding a maiden title, running out an 8-6 victor in the final.

Both players had produced sparkling displays throughout the weekend to reach the showdown, and produced an intriguing decider in front of a packed Oktoberhallen crowd.

Gilding trailed from the fifth leg but produced a 136 checkout, the game's most eye-catching moment, to reduce the deficit to 6-7.

However, Chisnall held throw to land double 19 and avoid a last-leg decider to rack up his third European Tour title, all of which have been won in different countries.

"It's very special," said an emotional Chisnall. "Any tournament you win is special but this one means even more after a tough year personally.

"We've had a couple of family bereavements so this is for them. I had a terrible year last year but I'm coning back and there will be more trophies going in my cabinet.

"I've been saying for the last few weeks that this has been coming and this weekend it happened.

"The final was one of those games where we were both trying too hard to win a big tournament. Luckily for me that double 19 went in; I'm so happy."

Meanwhile, Gilding's continued strong form in 2022 sees him confirm his place in October's BoyleSports World Grand Prix, having already featured in the Betfred World Matchplay in July.

Having defeated Belgian number one Dimitri Van den Bergh in Saturday's second round, Gilding overcame Niels Zonneveld, Martin Schindler and Jonny Clayton as he reached a first European Tour final.

Sunday saw the tournament reach its climax with last 16 matches in the afternoon, before the evening session saw the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final take place.

Hopes of a Belgian winner were ended in the last 16 as Kim Huybrechts - who defeated Michael van Gerwen in round two - went down 6-1 to Adrian Lewis.

German duo Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler fell at the quarter-final stage along with Lewis and De Sousa.

The final European Tour event of 2022, the Gibraltar Darts Trophy (ET13), will take place from October 14-16 at the Victoria Stadium

8th till the 10th of march 2024, luke littler wins the blåkläder belgian darts open 2024.

Wieze has once again lived up to its reputation. The atmosphere in the Oktoberhallen was unprecedented for 3 full days.

18,000 attendees saw Mike De Decker deliver the Belgian top performance of the tournament by beating former world champion Michael Smith and enjoyed a thrilling final in which Luke Littler defeated Rob Cross 8-7 in an English match.

Littler thus claims his first tournament on the European Tour. And that in his debut on this tour. The fact that he does that with a 9-darter in the final only makes it even more legendary. Will he repeat this later this year in Antwerp Expo at the Flanders Darts Trophy?

With three regular weeks remaining, Littler will take to the stage in front of tens of thousands of darts fans in Aberdeen, Leeds, and Sheffield.

Luke Littler says he plans to reduce his schedule after winning a second European Tour title in Austria on Sunday.

The 17-year-old stormed to victory over Joe Cullen in the final in Graz to pick up another £30,000 in prize winnings.

Littler is flying high at the top of the Premier League, having won three of the last five nights in the competition.

He is on the cusp of securing qualification for the play-off stage and he took his fine recent form to Austria at the weekend.

Luke Littler confirmed he plans to reduce his schedule after winning the Austrian Darts Open

Littler overcame Zoran Lerchbacher on Friday and Damon Heta on Saturday to secure his place in Sunday's final stages.

He beat Krzysztof Ratajski and Danny Noppert to reach the semi-final, where he faced fellow Englishman Ross Smith.

Littler eased past the 35-year-old with a 7-2 win to set up the final against Cullen.

He was not at his best in the final but was still far too good for his opponent, winning 8-4.

Littler's rise up the rankings means he now qualifies automatically for European Tour events.

But he is set to disappoint some fans by admitting he plans to play fewer tournaments.

Littler said: "Yeah if I do well then obviously if I get into the other majors and I've secured myself then I can just drop out of stuff and take the days off as chilling and look onto the next thing.

"So winning this has done me really well."

It is the fourth PDC tournament Littler has won since bursting onto the scene at the World Darts Championship last December.

He won the Bahrain Masters in January and a Players Championship event in February.

Littler's last success before Sunday was at the Belgian Darts Open in March, with much of his focus since being on the Premier League.

His form in Austria proved he is currently the player to beat in the world of darts.

"We started off really well but I think I stuck at it and Joe started to fall off and I saw that and I put my scoring back on top of his and I got over the line.

He also won the hearts of brands - with marketing managers seeing pound signs in their eyes the moment they locked eyes on Littler.

Young, talented, and relatable - it was no wonder BoohooMAN threw themselves at him first.

The online fashion retailer had already used footballers including Dele Alli and Jack Grealish for their range.

Now it was Littler's turn. He was offered a reported multi-million pound contract based on bonuses and potential earnings that he could earn in the coming years, as well as a percentage of sales.

Then, he was seen modelling their wear in ads - looking as fashionable as ever.

A month later, Target darts became the latest to sponsor Luke - adding him to their stable that includes Raymond van Barneveld , Rob Cross, Nathan Aspinall, and Stephen Bunting.

Although the figure wasn't released, it was said to be the 'biggest deal in darts history'.

Capitalising on Littler's moment, they soon released 'The Nuke' branded Tungsten arrows, as well as match shirts, and branded darts wallets.

YouTubers Sidemen were the next to snap up Littler, using him to promote their Best cereal.

In the filmed ad , Littler is seen tucking into a bowl whilst throwing three blind bullseyes.

After nailing the trio of 50 pointers, the oche icon gives the camera a cheeky eyebrow raise.

It's no wonder because he's making a mint.

Success story.

Because he's making his money at such a young age from sponsors and in prize money, obvious comparisons to Tiger Woods have been made.

Littler might be hard pushed to match the legendary golfer's £1billion fortune, but should be maintain the trajectory he is on in the years to come he will continue to rake it in.

Back in March, it was revealed he had made £5,000 per day in prize money since turning professional.

He is now understood to boast a stunning net worth of £600,000.

Along with successes at the worlds, Bahrain, the Dutch Masters, Belgian and Austrian, Littler is one of eight stars involved in the Premier League, a 17-week road show that takes in seven countries.

He is guaranteed a minimum of £60,000 for being involved in the first place.

And given that he's currently top of the Premier League Darts table, should he win the thing - he will be net £275,000.

Matchroom Sport president Barry Hearn has tipped Littler to emulate Tiger Woods.

Littler has been compared to golf phenomenon Tiger Woods

He told the  Telegraph : "This is a  Boris Becker  moment, this is a  Tiger Woods  moment.

"He's clearly got a lot going for him, his parents and the group around him are very supportive. Now they mustn't just look at the money because that will come automatically if you are good enough.

"There's a tremendous number of great players coming through because they smell the money. Top of the tree darts players are probably earning £2 to £2.5million a year. The biggest job for him will be to actually control his diary.

"With him it's a question of drip-feeding his notoriety. If I was managing him I'd put his fee up to an astronomical number and then, by the laws of supply and demand, that will cut down the possibility of him being burnt out.

"You compare it to [tennis player Emma] Raducanu . I wouldn't be cruel and call it a flash in the pan but that [Raducanu's 2021 US Open victory] is a one-off that hasn't been followed up.

"She's still a good player – there's something missing there, injuries whatever. This kid [Littler], you think, could be the face of darts for the next 25 years."

Selling sweaty merch

To top it off, Littler is now peddling the clothing off his own back.

He is cashing in on his success by selling signed match-worn shirts, having  started selling replica shirts  in March.

His signed shirt from his World Championship debut is available for £799.99.
