Journeys Group to Expand Operations in Lebanon

Footwear and accessories retailer to create 72 jobs  

NASHVILLE — Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd along with Journeys Group, a division of Nashville-based Genesco Inc., announced today the company will expand its distribution operations in Lebanon. The footwear and accessories retailer will invest $35 million and create 72 new jobs in Wilson County. 

“I want to thank Journeys Group for choosing to expand in Wilson County and for its continued investment in Tennessee,” Boyd said. “There are over 263,400 Tennesseans employed in the transportation, distribution and logistics sector and it is welcomed news when a company like Journeys, with its long history in our state, chooses to bring even more jobs to this growing sector and Team Tennessee.” 

Journeys, which operates more than 1,300 specialty retail stores in the United States, Canada, U.K., Republic of Ireland and Germany, will add 207,000 square feet to its current 320,000 square foot distribution facility in Lebanon. With this expansion, the company plans to add new equipment to better serve its retail and online customers.  The construction of the additional square footage is set to begin by the end of the year.

Genesco's Journeys Group to expand, add jobs in Lebanon

The Journeys Group, a division of Genesco, has announced plans to expand its distribution facility in Wilson County that will include 72 new jobs.

The footwear and accessories company will add 207,000 square feet to its Lebanon facility on Genesco Parkway, south of Interstate 40 just off State Route 109, according to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. The present facility is now 320,000 square feet.

The expansion is scheduled to begin by the end of 2016 and finish around summer, according to G.C. Hixson, Joint Economic & Community Development Board of Wilson County executive director.

"There was some talk about them expanding in other places, so we're pleased they are bringing a high profile high growth section of their products to Wilson County," Hixson said. "I think the Journeys Group is a really good division of Genesco that has shown a lot of growth."

The Wilson County Budget Committee has approved a five-year tax abatement on real and personal property for the expansion based on 72 new jobs, Hixson said. The division now has about 240 employees according to Hixson.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has also approved funding to extend Genesco Parkway to Callis Road for additional access to the Journeys Group facility. The funding is under the provisions of TDOT’s State Industrial Access Road Program, said TDOT spokeswoman Kathryn Schulte.

"We are proud to be part of the Wilson County community, and appreciate the tremendous support of state and local officials in making this expansion a reality," said James C. Estepa, president and chief executive officer of the Journeys Group.

The expansion will be a $35 million investment and will also add new equipment designed to improve service to retail and online customers, according to the state.

"We believe that today’s announcement further confirms that businesses of this stature cannot only locate in this community but also find a supportive and business friendly environment that allows for the company’s growth,” Lebanon Mayor Philip Craighead said.
