Greetings from Georgetown University! Founded in 1789, Georgetown is the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit college. Overlooking the Potomac River and the city of Washington, DC, it is certainly easy to understand why Georgetown’s early students often referred to the University as The Hilltop. Please visit our website to learn more about our In-person and Virtual offerings. We look forward to meeting you.

    Traveling to the Hilltop

Given the traffic and congestion of the Georgetown area, we strongly encourage visitors to utilize public transportation. For those arriving by car, we recommend several parking garages in the Georgetown neighborhood, as the University itself has very limited parking. Please view Directions to Campus page for more detailed information.

    Exploring the Georgetown Neighborhood

georgetown 360 tour

The campus is nestled in the Georgetown historic neighborhood of Washington, DC. The experience of a Georgetown students seamlessly merge two worlds: the University campus, and the Georgetown neighborhood. We strongly emphasize that prospective students should explore both the campus and the surrounding neighborhood to better obtain a full understanding of the day-to-day life of a Georgetown student. The charming “village” of Georgetown, twelve square blocks in size, retains the spirit of the colonial town in which the University was founded more than two centuries ago. The immediate neighborhood boasts federal-style townhouses and cobblestone, tree-lined streets leading to the intersection of M St. and Wisconsin Ave., which represent the heart of the Georgetown neighborhood.

    Experiencing the Nation’s Capital

No visit to the Hilltop would be complete without exploring the dynamic and bustling city of Washington, D.C. The university rests in close proximity to the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court as well as major theaters, concert halls and museums. In addition to attracting notable guest speakers, Georgetown provides unparalleled access to internship programs across multiple sectors, a wide variety of cultural events, and all that DC has to offer.

While at Georgetown, students develop a more thorough understanding of themselves and of the world around them, not simply a set of professional skills. This is evident in the achievements of distinguished alumni , including many ambassadors, numerous members of Congress, a current Supreme Court justice, and one former U.S. president. To be part of the academic experience at Georgetown is to join a multifaceted dialogue focused on intellectual, personal and spiritual growth.

Below are links to five different categories of activities, all of which will give you a strong picture of the typical experience of a Georgetown student and their favorite places to eat, shop, and explore.

Access & Affordability

Virtual college tours could offer benefits that outlast pandemic.

COVID-related safety precautions shifted many college tours to a virtual experience, but the approach may end up having long-term value as a tool for recruiting students who cannot afford to travel or face other barriers to exploring campuses in-person, The Chronicle of Higher Education reports.

The nature and quality of virtual college tours can vary widely. Some institutions load videos onto YouTube; others rely on Google Maps. A platform called YouVisit (which hosts Georgetown University’s virtual tour ) provides interactivity and 360-degree views.

Investing in virtual tours as an equity tool

While their approaches may differ, colleges are increasingly unified in their enthusiasm for offering and optimizing their virtual experiences. Done well, virtual tours can have “significant benefits” for students who cannot get to campus because of financial constraints, child care responsibilities, and other barriers, Ffiona Rees, board chair of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, told The Chronicle . “Virtual allows students to look at a much broader range of colleges, as far as size, as far as type, as far as geographic location,” she said.

More than three quarters of admissions officials surveyed this August by Inside Higher Ed said they assume that some (or many) students will continue to use videos instead of visiting campuses. YouVisit, meanwhile, has added 160 new clients since the pandemic began, according to The Chronicle .

What improvements would appeal to prospective students?

Noting that some virtual college tours remain institution-centric, not student-centric, The Chronicle interviewed several first-generation students about opportunities for virtual college tours to better serve student needs. Their responses indicated “a need for more human interactions, real-time Q&A opportunities, insights into the surrounding community, virtual sessions spotlighting clubs, and translation services, among other things.”

One student out of California with a goal of studying cardiology suggested making virtual tours available in Spanish so that non-English-speaking parents could be more involved.

Another student who now hosts biweekly live virtual college tours at New York University said his group of “ambassadors” has had success combining real-time narration, a slide show, and a closely monitored chat section. He said that about 70 people attend each virtual session and tend to come from a wider range of backgrounds than participants on the in-person tours he also hosts. Saying that “virtual options are better at reaching first-generation students and students from low-income backgrounds,” he urged colleges to “keep this channel open.”

Salesforce World Tour 2019 DC: We Present on ''Empowered Engagement: Integrated and Enterprise-wide Views into Fundraising''

Georgetown University's single Salesforce org implementation, ''GU360,'' unites biographical, educational and financial data from across the entire institution to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff. Useful for non-profits or institutions interested in collaboration between finance, fundraising, and leadership staff, this session focuses on how GU360 organizes these complex data sets and presents the results in an intuitive, actionable format that helps Georgetown deepen its relationships with students, alumni, parents and prospective donors.

Through custom development of the Lightning Component Framework, GU360 provides at-a-glance mobile views of engagement history, enabling Georgetown to organize their contact lists, communicate with colleagues on recent interactions and avoid embarrassing missteps that often arise from not knowing a constituent's essential information or history of engagement with the University. In this way, Georgetown can also track the impacts of a constituent's involvement with the University, for example, philanthropic gifts, and provide information to them on the results of their engagement.

Georgetown University Leads in Campus-Wide CRM

GU360 was selected as the winner of this year’s Campus Technology Impact Award. The award honors exemplary colleges and universities that are making an extraordinary impact with technology on campus, doing important work in the service of teaching, learning, administration and operations. GU360 provides a holistic view of students, faculty, alumni enabling proactive advising and lifelong meaningful engagement.

Hoya360 Pre-Launch a Success!

HOYA 360 Pre-Launch Oct 11 – Copley Lawn & Red Square Farmer's Market.

Did you see us on Market Day? It was a fun-filled event where we joined the rest of the Market Day activities and introduced Hoya360, the exciting new student portal launching soon, to the GU Community. Doug Little, Senior Assistant Dean for School of Nursing and Health Services, Linda Buckley, AVP for Administrative Applications, and Sarah Hawkins, Project Lead for Hoya360 workstream, were on hand to answer any questions students had. Kindness-rock painting and knitting demostrations drew a crowd. Lots of people came by and picked a rock to take with them.

We want to thank the following teams for helping make this event more special:

  • The UIS Security office promoted information on online protection tips, phishing awareness, and how to enroll in Duo to secure your NetID.
  • Salesforce , for the participation of their two giant mascots. They were a big hit with everyone. Who can resist two waddling big-headed adorable characters?!
  • The Maker's Hub , for the button-making station which produced buttons and fun-filled laughters.
  • Maracus Popsicle , for their generous donations of free popscicles for students.
  • And to our numerous volunteers for helping to make this event a success!

LITTLE: Ignite Community Connections

''The connections students make at Georgetown are what sustain this flame throughout their journeys, and the faculty, deans and other mentors on campus are integral in these engagements. Moreover, with the introduction of a new technology, Hoya360, we hope to deepen and broaden these connections so that they survive long after Hoyas leave the Hilltop.'' Using Hoya360, students will be able to communicate their passions and interests to their deans and mentors, who will then be able to better match them with meaningful opportunities. Students will eventually be able to search for and connect with other faculty and peers who share similar research interests or service passions.

We will be part of Dreamforce 2017 keynote!

Georgetown has been asked to be part of Salesforce.org CEO Rob Acker's Keynote speech at Dreamforce in November! As one of 3 trailblazing customers that are redefining impact, success and transforming their institutions with the help of Salesforce technology, Judd Nicholson, VP for Information Technology and CIO, will have a chance to spend 8 minutes talking about Georgetown360 and innovation in the higher ed space.

In other Dreamforce news:

  • Judd Nicholson, VP for Information Technology and CIO, will be presenting a session with demo of GU360.
  • Douglas Little, Senior Assistant Dean, Student Academic Affairs, School of Nursing and Health Studies, will be part of a higher education panel sponsored by Ovum, which is doing a white paper on CRM in higher ed
  • JoAnn Grainger, Associate Vice President, Advancement Services, Office of Advancement, will be doing a recorded interview
  • Jacob Landis, GU360 Technical Director, will be supporting a panel with our consulting partner, Appirio

We are super excited about our accomplishments thus far and with the chance to share our experiences with a larger audience.

New Information Portal Prepares for NHS Pilot

''The Office of the Chief Information Officer presented its forthcoming centralized information portal, Georgetown360, which will be rolled out at the end of the month for the School of Nursing and Health Studies.

The new portal, Hoya360, will integrate all current sources of club and academic information for Georgetown students in one location. A version of the portal has already been implemented for faculty, while a version for alumni will be formally launched with the student portal by the end of the month, according to the platform website.''

A Look at the Current Challenges in Higher Education

''Georgetown’s GU360 project is more than just an improvement in data systems, it’s about enhancing the sense of community that is central to what its constituents love about Georgetown.''

On May 1, 2017, we held a successful Town Hall with over 200 in attendence in person, and another 130 on Zoom. Executive Sponsors Bart Moore, Vice President for Advancemen; Pat Cloonan, Dean for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences; and Judd Nicholson, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, along side of project sponsors Jo Ann Grainger from Advancement, Doug Little from NHS, and Linda Buckley from UIS presented our progress thus far, and our visions for future development.

Georgetown Steam Plant

Georgetown Steam Plant Interior Photo

The Georgetown Steam Plant is a National Historic Landmark — a reminder of the era of electrification when industry was first attracted to Seattle by its inexpensive hydroelectric power and electric trolley car system. It is also a Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark , a Seattle Landmark , and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Once at the center of the rapidly growing Georgetown neighborhood, the Georgetown Steam Plant was built by the Seattle Electric Company in 1906-1907 on 18 acres of land along the Duwamish River. The plant's two vertical Curtis Turbines helped establish the steam turbine as capable of producing large amounts of power more cheaply and efficiently than other generators at the time.

Today, tours and open houses are available at no charge for anyone wanting to learn more about Seattle's energy history. You can also take a 360-degree virtual tour of the Georgetown Steam Plant by clicking the button below. This virtual tour is presented by Seattle City Light in partnership with the Georgetown Steam Plant Community Development Authority .

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Specifications Definitions

GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) - Is the maximum permissible loaded weight of your motor home and any towed trailer or towed vehicle. Actual GCWR of this vehicle may be limited by the sum of the GVWR and the installed hitch receiver maximum capacity rating; see hitch rating label for detail.

GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) - is the maximum permissible weight, including cargo, fluids, optional equipment and accessories that can be safely supported by each axle.

UVW (Unloaded Vehicle Weight)* - is the typical weight of the unit as manufactured at the factory. It includes all weight at the unit’s axle(s), including full fuel, all fl uids and LP Gas. The UVW does not include cargo, fresh potable water, additional optional equipment or dealer installed accessories. *Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

CCC (Cargo Carrying Capacity)** - is the amount of weight available for fresh potable water, cargo, passengers, additional optional equipment and accessories. CCC is equal to GVWR minus UVW. Available CCC should accommodate fresh potable water (8.3 lbs per gallon). Before fi lling the fresh water tank, empty the black and gray tanks to provide for more cargo capacity. **Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

Each Forest River RV is weighed at the manufacturing facility prior to shipping. A label identifying the unloaded vehicle weight of the actual unit and the cargo carrying capacity is applied to every Forest River RV prior to leaving our facilities.

The load capacity of your unit is designated by weight, not by volume, so you cannot necessarily use all available space when loading your unit.

Actual towing capacity is dependent upon your particular loading and towing circumstances, which includes the GVWR, GAWR and GCWR as well as adequate trailer brakes. Please refer to the Operator's Manual of your vehicle for further towing information.
