Inside the field: G4D Tour at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Change Text Size

The G4D Tour will stage its first-ever event in conjunction with a PGA TOUR tournament at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, with 10 of the world’s best golfers with a disability competing in the United States.

Held April 29-30 at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, host venue of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, the new event features eight leading males and the top two females in the gross World Rankings for Golfers with a Disability (WR4GD).

G4D Tour participants at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Among those aiming to showcase their talent on the global stage are world No. 1 Kipp Popert, with the Englishman seeking to claim his 10th G4D Tour title.

Joining him in the field for the two-day stroke-play event are Americans Chris Biggins and Ryanne Jackson, who is the only first-time participant on the G4D Tour.

Ahead of the G4D Tour at THE CJ Cup Byron Nelson getting underway on Monday, here's a look at the 10 inspiring athletes set to tee it up.

Kipp Popert

  • World ranking (gross): 1
  • G4D Tour titles: 9
  • Sport class: Standing 2
  • Impairment: Weakness and spasticity in legs
  • Nationality: English

Born with cerebral palsy, Popert is a high-profile advocate for the inclusive power of golf. Despite the physical challenges he has faced growing up and overcoming multiple surgeries, he has reached the summit of the game, thriving on the international stage. Having only first heard about the competitive opportunities open to talented golfers with a disability in 2019 through EDGA, formerly known as the European Disabled Golf Association, he has since won around the world, including on no fewer than nine occasions since the launch of the G4D Tour in 2022. An inspiration to many, he competed in The Amateur Championship – organized by The R&A – last summer and challenged himself in events alongside leading professionals. Won the U.S. Adaptive Open – established by the USGA – last summer and claimed further silverware on his most recent G4D Tour start in Kenya earlier this year.

Brendan Lawlor

  • World ranking: 2
  • G4D Tour titles: 1
  • Sport class: Standing 3
  • Impairment: Short stature and limbs
  • Nationality: Irish

One of the most recognized golfers with a disability worldwide, Lawlor was born with a rare condition called Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, characterized by a shorter stature and shorter limbs. Since playing in his first EDGA event in 2017, the Irishman has competed around the world with great distinction. Having turned professional in 2019, he made history by becoming the first player with a disability to compete on the DP World Tour at the ISPS HANDA UK Championship in August 2020. Despite having won numerous EDGA titles over the years, including guiding his nation to win the European Team Championship in 2022, he had to wait until the inaugural G4D Open to claim his first G4D Tour title as he edged out Popert for victory. He has finished second and third in his two starts on the G4D Tour so far this season.

Chris Biggins

  • World ranking: 3
  • G4D Tour titles: 0
  • Nationality: American

The American, who has cerebral palsy, will hope playing on home soil can lead to his maiden title on the G4D Tour after a series of strong results. With top-five finishes in his last three G4D Tour starts, he is among the most consistent performers in the game. He claimed victory at the EDGA Cazoo Classic in 2021, which coincided with an event on the DP World Tour at London Golf Club. Away from competition, he is the director of player development at The Country Club of Birmingham in Alabama. In that role, the 2019 U.S. Disabled Open Golf Association Championship winner coaches youngsters.

Juan Postigo Arce

  • World ranking: 4
  • G4D Tour titles: 2
  • Sport class: Standing 1
  • Impairment: Leg length difference
  • Nationality: Spanish

Born without much of his right leg and no knee, the incredibly talented Spaniard is another of the leading ambassadors in the game. Born in the same part of Northern Spain as Seve Ballesteros, he has received widespread acclaim and continues to play an important role in raising awareness about the great number of players with a disability competing competitively. A proven champion, having been a three-time successive winner of the European Golf Association’s (EGA) European Championship for Golfers with Disability, Postigo Arce has since won twice on the G4D Tour – with both occasions coming last season in Abu Dhabi and Sweden respectively. He competed in the "Champions Challenge" on the eve of The 150th Open Championship at St Andrews in 2022.

Kurtis Barkley

  • World ranking: 6
  • Impairment: Spinal stiffness
  • Nationality: Canadian

Mike Browne

  • World ranking: 7
  • Impairment: Amputation above knee

Like his counterparts, Browne’s story is inspiring. A former soldier, the Englishman had his left leg amputated from the knee down following an infection that arose after a training accident almost a decade ago. Despite only starting to play golf in 2014, he turned professional in 2016. One of the longest drivers in the world, he first tasted success on the G4D Tour during its inaugural season in Ireland in 2022. A second followed last year over Jumeirah Golf Estates’ renowned Earth Course in Dubai, where he was the only player in the field to finish under par in the weather-shortened event.

Tomasso Perrino

  • World ranking: 8
  • Impairment: Weakness and stiffness of the lead leg
  • Nationality: Australian

Perrino competed against major champion and compatriot Francesco Molinari as a boy, but a motor scooter accident aged 18 curtailed his progress. Already a winner on the G4D Tour, having won in Northern Ireland in 2022, he has since become one of the most consistent performers. In 2023, he recorded top-five finishes in five consecutive G4D Tour appearances and became the first Italian to win the EGA’s European Championship in the Netherlands last July. Perrino featured in the All-Star Match ahead of the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club alongside Popert and fellow sportsmen such as Novak Djokovic and Gareth Bale.

Lachlan Wood

  • World ranking: 9

When aged 16, Wood was seriously injured in a car accident, resulting in his left leg being held together by 14 screws and a metal plate, while he has so far faced more than 40 surgeries. The leading player on the established World Ranking for Golfers with Disability from Australia, he is looking to continue his impressive start to the 2024 G4D Tour campaign. He secured his maiden win at the Australian All Abilities Championship @ the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in December, before finishing runner-up to Popert in Kenya in February.

Daphne van Houten

  • Nationality: Dutch

A routine physical screening at just 12 years old found a life-changing issue in van Houten’s back. She became the first woman to break into the top 10 of the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability in mid-2019. She was part of the inaugural field on the G4D Tour at The Belfry in 2022 and made her most recent appearance in Kenya. She won the EGA's Champion Women Golfer with Disability in 2018 and is a key member of the Dutch national setup. Her golfing hero is compatriot Anne van Dam, who plays on the Ladies European Tour and LPGA.

Ryanne Jackson

  • World ranking: 66
  • Impairment: Muscle weakness in arms and legs

Jackson has muscular dystrophy, a condition which causes the muscles in her shoulders and legs to weaken over time. While she first picked up a club at the age of 2, it was when she was 6 that she began the play sport regularly and declared herself a "lefty" despite being right-handed. Coached from a young age by her father, like both her older sisters, her diagnosis only came in her freshman year a college after struggling to understand the cause of physical tiredness she suffered from. Won the U.S. Adaptive Open at Pinehurst last summer and is now set for her debut on the G4D Tour.

The 2024 G4D Tour schedule comprises nine tournaments held in six different countries and includes a major championship with The G4D Open in May, which is run in partnership by The R&A and the DP World Tour.

14 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking, Big 5 & Big Cats Tour

I enjoyed an excellent experience on this 14 day tour. It provides the opportunity to see almost all of the African animals that you would hope to see on any safaris in Africa with the addition of viewing gorillas, chimpanzees, and golden monkeys close-up in beautiful jungle environments. The tour also provided the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Uganda from the amazing countryside landscape to the fascinating people that live there. I have traveled in several other African countries on previous safaris and adding this tour to my resume allowed me to have a more total experience when is comes to enjoying all that Africa has to offer in terms of its rare animals and stunning environments.

4 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking, Chimps, Big 5 & Big Cats Safari

Not really knowing what to expect on this adventure, we were happy we chose this itinerary. It was fast pace but with enough time to rest between events. What a unique experience to see the gorillas and chimps in their natural habitat. The trekking guides took great care of us, gave us the information and support we need for a successful trek. We never felt unsafe during our treks. Our Devine African Safari private guide; Emma was fantastic, professional and personable. He made sure we were where we needed to be on time, thought ahead to ensure trip details went accordingly, gave us useful information throughout the trip, and overall was just a pleasure to have guide us. Travel distance from Entebbe to the trekking location is quite far but the scenery is unique and something to behold. Stopping at the Equator for photos and lunch at a local spot was a nice treat. The people of Uganda were very pleasant, calm, and inviting. We would definitely recommend this trip, Devine African Safari, and Emma to future travelers.

Phil mickelson explains video with gorillas that took social media by storm ahead of liv golf bedminster, share this article.

BEDMINSTER, N.J. — If you didn’t see the Phil Mickelson and gorillas video , where have you been?

The clip came from a LIV Golf video announcing their latest addition to the broadcast, fan-favorite analyst David Feherty, who made his debut at this week’s event at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. After the first round on Friday, a frustrated Mickelson spoke with the media about his recent struggles with his game, saying, “I don’t feel lost. I don’t feel like I’m hitting terrible shots, but I’m just not scoring.”

The 52-year-old also dished on the viral video that took social media by storm. Eight months ago Mickelson and his wife, Amy, planned a trip for her 50th birthday, which was the end of May. They ended up spending a few days in Rwanda before visiting Tanzania.

LIV Golf’s latest signing 🖊️ #LIVGolf pic.twitter.com/NnvhDxTXSc — LIV Golf (@LIVGolfInv) July 22, 2022

“It looked like it was a preserve, but one day out of a month the gorillas come out of a jungle. There’s like a wall there and they come out of the jungle and eat some of the eucalyptus trees for the salt and the stem, and we were lucky enough to see them on that day because we had a much better view of the entire family,” explained Mickelson. “Amy is all excited because a little baby gorilla came up to her and kind of bumped into her. She seems to have that effect on all animals. They all come to her. But it was a really special trip for us.”

That led Henrik Stenson, who joined Mickelson, Charles Howell III and Patrick Reed for the interview, to ask the important question: Did the gorilla bring a birthday present for her?

“They sang happy birthday for her,” Mickelson said with a smile.

Golfing Gorilla has passed into legend

By WA Golf Staff

Posted on Dec 16, 2020

South Sound native and “trainer” to local celebrity golfer The Golfing Gorilla, Tom Tuell passed away on December 6, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 70.

gorilla tour golf

Tom was a lifelong South Puget Sound resident, attending Washington, Hunt, and Wilson High School. He went on to study and play golf at the University of Washington and then graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

gorilla tour golf

He loved to laugh and he loved people. Tom began “training” The Golfing Gorilla in the late 1970s to become a trick-shot artist, and went on to speak, teach and entertain fans at celebrity and high-profile golf tournaments and events around the world. His ability to hit a golf ball prodigious distances while wearing a bulky hairy gorilla suit confounded and delighted fans everywhere, and he became a local and national legend. His talent for the long ball included him in the 350 Club, for players who can drive the ball 350+ yards.

Also a talented writer, Tom penned a column for The Tacoma News Tribune for many years about the stories behind personalized license plates around Puget Sound.

A staple at Al Davies Boys & Girls Club and Stadium High basketball games, he loved watching his son play for many years. Tom is survived by his children, grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and friends, and by all the fans who were entertained and made to enjoy life by the Golfing Gorilla.

Oakmont Country Club: Gorilla In The Mist

Oakmont-Country-Club-Church-Pews-3-4-hole-staff.jpg

What's the saying? We can't see the forest for the trees? In the case of Oakmont Country Club, which June 16-19 hosts a record ninth U.S. Open, we can't see the forest for the lack of trees. The last time the Open visited Oakmont, in 2007, when Angel Cabrera won by a stroke—Tiger Woods missed a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole, and Jim Furyk bogeyed the 17th after trying to drive the short par 4—the course had been so clear-cut that we proclaimed Mighty Oakmont had returned to its roots. "Its one-of-a-kind character has been reclaimed, restored and revitalized by astonishing tree removal," we wrote. "It's back to the barren look and brazen playing characteristics it had when it hosted its first U.S. Open, in 1927."

Back then we reported more than 5,000 trees had been removed along Oakmont's fairways, widening the panoramas and highlighting ferocious bunkering and deep drainage ditches that had previously been obscured beneath foliage. John Zimmers Jr., Oakmont's course superintendent, now confirms that crews actually removed about 7,000 trees before the 2007 Open. But here's a surprising footnote: Since 2007, Zimmers and his team have removed another 7,500 trees.

These days, from the veranda on Oakmont's clubhouse, one can see some portion of every hole, a view all the way to the flag of the hilltop third green at the far northeastern corner of the property. What's more, if you didn't know the Pennsylvania Turnpike existed—it separates holes 2 through 8 from the rest of the course—you wouldn't sense it from today's view. Because the turnpike is recessed, it's merely a horizontal shadow, barely noticeable. When dense rows of trees were on either side, they had emphasized its existence.

Course Tour: A hole-by-hole-look at Oakmont C.C. >>

In the process of chain-sawing away 60 years of growth, Oakmont's dramatic topography has been fully revealed. Without a backdrop, the front-to-back slopes of the first, sixth and 10th greens are obvious. (For this year's Open, the back of the sixth green has been expanded, providing new pin placements, and at 12 two bunkers were removed and one was expanded. Those are the only major architectural changes to the course, which will play at par 70 and 7,219 yards, down 11 yards from 2007.) Elsewhere, hills look steeper and distances more deceiving. The downhill, par-5 12th now seems like it should be reachable in two even at 667 yards, though it's not the longest hole in U.S. Open history—the 16th at Olympic Club in San Francisco beats it by three yards.

Oakmont-Country-Club-9th-hole-Clubhouse-staff.jpg

WHEN OAKMONT LEADS, OTHERS FOLLOW Why does this tree removal matter? Because Oakmont is the standard for American championship golf. Besides U.S. Opens, it has been the site of five U.S. Amateurs, three PGA Championships and two U.S. Women's Opens. Much of what happens at Oakmont affects the game. After all, it had fast greens decades before they became fashionable. Those swift greens caused the Stimpmeter to be created in the late 1930s, and whether that's a positive or negative, the Stimpmeter measurements of green speeds are here to stay at many, many clubs. For this year's Open, the United States Golf Association wants Oakmont's greens rolling at 14 feet on a Stimpmeter, the same speed they measured in 2007.

A near-universal high regard for Oakmont makes controversy acceptable. In 2007, the USGA played the par-3 eighth from a new back tee, stretching the hole to as much as 300 yards for the final round. (After acing the hole in a practice round at 288 yards, Trevor Immelman was asked if he saw the ball go into the hole and replied, "We couldn't see that far.")

At nearly any other club, a 300-yard par 3 would be considered a joke if not a travesty, but because it happened at Oakmont, a number of golf architects subsequently embraced the idea of an extremely long championship tee on a one-shot hole to require champion players to use a metal wood to reach the green. Oakmont gave architects cover to fight technology with an extreme measure.

The tree-removal program at Oakmont might well be this storied club's finest contribution to the game of golf. It reversed a trend it had helped start in the 1950s, the "beautification" of inland American courses by a sanctioned program of constant and misguided planting of trees funded by green committees and membership drives.

Thumb through Oakmont's tournament program from 1962—the year 22-year-old Jack Nicklaus won his first professional major, indeed his first professional tournament, in a playoff over Arnold Palmer—and what jumps out are aerial photos showing hole after hole dotted with saplings. Plus seven advertisements for tree nurseries. It's no wonder that the USGA subsequently selected Minnesota's Hazeltine National for the 1970 U.S. Open, despite cries that the eight-year-old course looked far too immature to host a national championship. Hazeltine at that time didn't look any younger than Oakmont. Hazeltine, site of the 2016 Ryder Cup Sept. 30-Oct. 2, now has towering hardwoods on many holes.

Oakmont was leafy green for U.S. Opens in 1973, 1983 and 1994, but then the club stopped planting trees and started removing them in bunches. Quietly, at first, and strictly to improve the health of turf normally blanketed in shade. Then-superintendent Mark Kuhns, with the approval of his 18-member green committee, had a crew assemble at 4 a.m. Under truck lights, they'd set down tarps, chop down a tree, cut it up, haul it off, grind the stump to ground level, vacuum up wood chips and leaves, then slap sod over it. By dawn, they'd be finished, and golfers playing the hole were none the wiser. Kuhns removed almost 500 trees that way until one day a caddie pointed out a gaping void to an influential club member.

Oakmont-Country-Club-halfway-house-staff.jpg

It quickly became a contentious issue among the membership. There were meetings, threatened petitions and the specter of a lawsuit. Some called Kuhns "The Butcher of Oakmont" to his face. But the green-committee members doubled down, campaigning that Oakmont's trees should be removed because they were contrary to the original concept of founder H.C. Fownes. Among the evidence they presented: a 1938 Grantland Rice article, which referenced Oakmont as a links as famed as St. Andrews; a 1949 aerial of Oakmont showing scant trees; and a 1994 Golf Digest article critical of the prettification of the course ( "Has the Old Bully Lost its Punch?" June 1994 ).

Eventually a majority of the members came around, but although they grudgingly allowed Kuhns to continue some tree removal, they refused to allocate additional funds. He had to squeeze the expenses from his normal operating budget, and as a result other areas of the course suffered a bit.

In late 1999, Kuhns moved to Baltusrol, site of this year's PGA Championship, and Zimmers took his place. He stepped up the tree removal, tying many expenses to club capital projects to cover costs. By 2002, the effects were so dramatic it warranted a follow-up story in Golf Digest ( "Mission: Unpopular" October 2002 ). The story quoted Tom Meeks, then the USGA's senior director of rules and competition: "If any club thinks they would be hurting themselves by cutting down a few trees, go look at Oakmont and see what they've done. They are the leaders in the clubhouse."

Oakmont-Country-Club-3th-hole-tree-staff.jpg

AN EXAMPLE OF SUSTAINABILITY For this year's Open, the USGA plans to highlight Oakmont's tree-removal program as another facet of sustainability. After all, instead of replacing the trees with lush, maintained turf that would demand additional water and chemicals, many areas of former forest are now covered in tall fescues that need little maintenance and turn bronze and wavy in later summer. (Trivia note: Though other bunkers at Oakmont are edged by a bluegrass-ryegrass mix of maintained rough, the huge Church Pews bunker between the third and fourth holes has each pew planted in unmaintained fescue, because the club believes the famed hazard deserved a distinctive look.)

Other grand American courses have removed pointless trees in the past decade and a half, and some were chopping and pruning even before Oakmont's extensive clear-cutting became public. But had Oakmont not succeeded in its effort in such a dramatic, visual manner, and had that effort not been well-received (finally) by its membership and those who study and promote golf-course architecture, it's doubtful that similar programs would have occurred at such prominent clubs as Olympic and Oak Hill. The nearly treeless Oakmont is an extreme example, a total reversal of the sentiment that trees belong on a golf course, because its heritage didn't rely on aerial hazards whatsoever. Other clubs are more content to retain some trees for safety or aesthetic purposes, which is fine. But the lesson of Oakmont is that every club should re-examine its landscape. Most would find many of their trees superfluous and, as at Oakmont, the character of their layouts would improve once those trees are removed.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Epoxy for Your Golf Clubs

Golf clubs are a significant investment for any avid golfer. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you know that proper care and maintenance are crucial for extending the life of your clubs. One of the most important steps in golf club maintenance is using the right epoxy for repair and maintenance.

Choosing the right epoxy can be challenging, especially if you’re not familiar with the various types of epoxies available. The wrong choice can lead to subpar repairs that can cause more damage than good. This is why we have created the ultimate guide to choosing the perfect epoxy for your golf clubs.

In this comprehensive guide, we will provide you with expert tips on how to select the best epoxy for your golf clubs. We will also cover the most common mistakes to avoid when applying epoxy, the top brands of epoxy for golf club repair and maintenance, and how epoxy can help extend the life of your golf clubs. With this guide, you’ll have all the information you need to make an informed decision and protect your investment.

So, whether you’re a professional golfer or a weekend warrior, read on to discover everything you need to know about choosing the perfect epoxy for your golf clubs.

Protect Your Investment with the Right Epoxy

Investing in a set of golf clubs is a big decision. You want to make sure that your clubs are high-quality and will last you for years to come. However, even the best clubs can start to show signs of wear and tear over time. This is where epoxy comes in. Applying the right kind of epoxy to your clubs can protect them from damage and ensure that they stay in good condition for longer.

But with so many different types of epoxy on the market, how do you know which one is right for you? In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at the different types of epoxy available and help you choose the one that’s best for your needs.

Type of Epoxy #1: Two-Part Epoxy

Two-part epoxy is the most common type of epoxy used for golf club repair. This type of epoxy comes in two separate parts that you need to mix together before use. It’s incredibly strong and durable, making it an excellent choice for repairing damage to your clubs.

Type of Epoxy #2: Quick-Setting Epoxy

  • Quick-setting epoxy is perfect for those who want to get back on the course as soon as possible. As the name suggests, this type of epoxy sets quickly, allowing you to make repairs in no time at all.
  • However, quick-setting epoxy isn’t as strong as two-part epoxy, so it may not be the best choice for larger repairs or for those who want to ensure that their clubs are as protected as possible.

Type of Epoxy #3: Shafting Epoxy

  • Shafting epoxy is designed specifically for golf club shafts . It’s a bit more flexible than other types of epoxy, which is important for allowing the shaft to flex properly during your swing.
  • However, shafting epoxy isn’t as strong as other types of epoxy, so it may not be the best choice for repairing larger areas of damage.
  • If you’re looking to repair the grip on your golf club, you’ll need to use grip tape and grip solvent instead of epoxy.

Now that you know more about the different types of epoxy available, you can make an informed decision about which one is right for you. Protect your investment and ensure that your golf clubs stay in top condition by using the right kind of epoxy for your needs.

How to Select the Best Epoxy for Your Golf Clubs

Choosing the right epoxy for your golf clubs is crucial for their longevity and performance on the course. A good epoxy will protect your investment by providing a strong bond between the clubhead and the shaft, preventing damage from impacts and weather conditions. But with so many options available, it can be overwhelming to select the best one for your needs. Here are some key factors to consider when choosing the right epoxy:

Firstly, consider the setting time of the epoxy. The setting time refers to the amount of time it takes for the epoxy to cure and become fully functional. Some epoxies may have a longer setting time, which can be inconvenient if you need to use your clubs immediately after repair. Secondly, check the strength of the epoxy. A higher strength epoxy will provide a stronger bond and better protection against damage. Lastly, consider the ease of use of the epoxy. Some epoxies may require additional tools or preparation, which may not be ideal for those who are new to club repair.

Setting Time

When choosing an epoxy for your golf clubs, it is important to consider the setting time. If you need your clubs repaired quickly, opt for an epoxy with a shorter setting time. However, keep in mind that epoxies with shorter setting times may not provide as strong of a bond as those with longer setting times. Some popular epoxies with shorter setting times include the GolfWorks Quick Cure 5 and the GolfWorks High Strength Epoxy.

The strength of the epoxy is another important factor to consider. Look for an epoxy with a high tensile strength, as this will provide a stronger bond between the clubhead and shaft. A good epoxy should be able to withstand impacts from swings and protect against weather conditions. Some popular high-strength epoxies include the GolfWorks Tour Set Plus Epoxy and the ProPoxy 20-Minute Epoxy.

Ease of Use

If you are new to club repair, it may be beneficial to choose an epoxy that is easy to use. Look for an epoxy that requires minimal preparation and additional tools. Some epoxies come with mixing nozzles or applicator brushes, which can simplify the repair process. Some easy-to-use options include the GolfWorks Maximum Strength Epoxy and the Gorilla Epoxy.

Choosing the right epoxy for your golf clubs can be a daunting task, but by considering the setting time, strength, and ease of use, you can make an informed decision. Remember, a good epoxy will protect your investment and ensure that your clubs perform their best on the course.

The Benefits of Using High-Quality Epoxy for Golf Club Repair

Golf clubs are an investment and like all investments, they require proper maintenance to ensure their longevity. However, even with the best care, accidents can happen, and clubs can become damaged. When that happens, it’s important to use the right materials to repair them, and high-quality epoxy is the best option.

Using high-quality epoxy for golf club repair offers a range of benefits that ensure the clubs are restored to their former glory and will last for many more rounds on the course. Below are some of the top benefits of using high-quality epoxy for golf club repair:

Strength and Durability

  • Strength: High-quality epoxy is incredibly strong, which means it can withstand the force of a swing without cracking or breaking.
  • Durability: Epoxy is a durable material that can withstand extreme weather conditions, so it won’t weaken or break down over time.

Precision and Control

Precision: High-quality epoxy is easy to work with, and it can be shaped and molded to match the exact specifications of the club. This ensures a precise and seamless repair that won’t impact the club’s performance.

Control: Epoxy has a long cure time, which means there is ample time to make any necessary adjustments during the repair process. This allows for greater control and precision when repairing golf clubs.

Aesthetics and Appearance

  • Aesthetics: High-quality epoxy is available in a range of colors, so it can be matched to the color of the club for a seamless repair that doesn’t stand out.
  • Appearance: Epoxy dries clear, so the repaired area won’t be noticeable, giving the club a clean and polished appearance.

Overall, using high-quality epoxy for golf club repair is essential to protect your investment and ensure your clubs last for many more rounds. With its strength, durability, precision, and aesthetics, it’s the perfect material for repairing golf clubs and restoring them to their former glory.

The Most Common Mistakes to Avoid When Applying Epoxy to Your Golf Clubs

When it comes to repairing your golf clubs, using epoxy can be a great option. However, it’s important to make sure you’re using the right epoxy and applying it correctly to avoid common mistakes. Here are some tips to help you avoid the most common mistakes:

First, be sure to choose the right epoxy for your golf club repair. Using the wrong epoxy can lead to weak or brittle bonds, resulting in further damage to your club.

Not Prepping the Surface

One of the most common mistakes when applying epoxy to your golf clubs is not properly prepping the surface. Before applying the epoxy, make sure to clean the area thoroughly with a solvent such as acetone or rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt or oils that could interfere with the bond. Also, scuffing the surface with sandpaper can help the epoxy adhere better.

Using Too Much Epoxy

Another common mistake is using too much epoxy. While it might seem like using more will make the bond stronger, using too much can actually lead to excess dripping or pooling, which can affect the performance of your club. Use only the amount needed to fill the area, and make sure to wipe away any excess before it dries.

Not Allowing Enough Drying Time

Finally, not allowing enough drying time is a mistake that can ruin your repair job. Epoxy requires time to fully cure and harden, and rushing the process can lead to a weak bond or even damage to your club. Follow the instructions on your epoxy packaging to ensure you’re allowing enough drying time before using your club again.

By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure a successful repair job and keep your golf clubs performing at their best.

Expert Tips for Mixing and Applying Epoxy to Your Golf Clubs

If you want to ensure that your golf clubs are properly repaired with epoxy, it’s essential to follow the correct mixing and application process. Here are some expert tips to help you achieve the best results:

Prepare the Surfaces Properly

Before mixing and applying the epoxy, it’s important to properly prepare the surfaces you’ll be working on. This means cleaning them thoroughly and sanding them lightly to create a surface that the epoxy can adhere to. You should also ensure that the surfaces are completely dry before proceeding.

Mixing the Epoxy

  • Measure Accurately: Epoxy is a two-part material that must be mixed in precise proportions. Be sure to carefully follow the instructions on the packaging to ensure that you mix the right amount of resin and hardener.
  • Mix Thoroughly: To achieve a strong bond, it’s essential to mix the epoxy thoroughly. Use a clean container and stir the two parts together for several minutes, making sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the container to ensure that all of the material is mixed.

Applying the Epoxy

  • Use a Small Amount: Epoxy can be messy, so it’s important to use it sparingly. Apply a small amount to the surface of your club and spread it evenly with a small brush or toothpick.
  • Be Patient: Epoxy takes time to dry, so it’s important to be patient and let it cure completely before using your club. This can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on the specific epoxy you’re using and the environmental conditions.

By following these expert tips for mixing and applying epoxy to your golf clubs, you can ensure that your repairs are strong, durable, and long-lasting.

Top Brands of Epoxy for Golf Club Repair and Maintenance

If you’re looking to repair or maintain your golf clubs, epoxy is an essential material. However, with so many options on the market, it can be difficult to know which brand to choose. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the top brands of epoxy for golf club repair and maintenance.

Before we dive into the specific brands, it’s important to note that not all epoxies are created equal. When choosing an epoxy for your golf clubs, look for one that is specially formulated for the task at hand. For example, some epoxies are better suited for filling cracks, while others are better for bonding parts together.

  • GolfWorks Tour Set Plus Epoxy: This two-part epoxy is designed for clubmakers and is ideal for bonding metal, graphite, and wood. It sets in just five minutes and has a high shear strength, making it a great option for repairing broken clubheads.
  • GolfWorks High-Strength Epoxy: This two-part epoxy is designed for use on golf clubs and has a high bond strength. It sets in just 30 minutes and can be sanded or painted over once it has cured.
  • Devcon 2-Ton Epoxy: This two-part epoxy is ideal for bonding metal, wood, ceramic, and most plastics. It sets in just 30 minutes and can be sanded or drilled once it has cured. It’s also waterproof and heat-resistant, making it a great option for golf club repair.

  • Gorilla Epoxy: This two-part epoxy sets in just five minutes and has a high impact resistance, making it a great option for repairing broken golf clubheads. It can also be used to bond metal, wood, ceramic, and most plastics.
  • Gorilla Super Glue Gel: While not an epoxy, this super glue gel is a great option for quick fixes on the golf course. It sets in just 10-30 seconds and bonds to a wide variety of surfaces, including metal, wood, ceramic, and most plastics.

When it comes to repairing and maintaining your golf clubs, choosing the right epoxy is key. By selecting one of these top brands, you can be confident that you’re getting a high-quality product that will help keep your clubs in top shape for years to come.

How Epoxy Can Help Extend the Life of Your Golf Clubs

Investing in high-quality golf clubs is a significant expense for any golfer, but proper maintenance can help extend the life of your clubs and save you money in the long run. One maintenance tool that can make a big difference is epoxy.

Epoxy is a strong adhesive that can bond a variety of materials together, including metal, plastic, and graphite. By using epoxy to repair damage to your clubs, you can strengthen weak points and prevent further damage.

Increased Durability

Epoxy can help increase the durability of your golf clubs by reinforcing weakened areas. For example, if the head of your club is loose, you can apply epoxy to the connection point to make it stronger. Additionally, if your clubs have small chips or cracks, you can fill them with epoxy to prevent them from growing larger and causing more damage.

Improved Performance

In addition to extending the lifespan of your clubs, using epoxy can also improve their performance. By repairing cracks or chips with epoxy, you can maintain the club’s original weight and balance, which is crucial for consistent shots. You can also adjust the weight of your clubs by adding or removing epoxy to the head or shaft.

Top Epoxy Brands for Golf Club Maintenance

  • GolfWorks Max Strength Epoxy : This epoxy is designed specifically for golf club repair and maintenance, providing a strong bond that can withstand the forces of the swing.
  • Devcon Plastic Steel Epoxy : This epoxy is great for repairing metal clubheads or filling large cracks or chips. It can also be sanded and painted over to match the club’s original finish.
  • Loctite Epoxy Weld : This two-part epoxy is versatile and can bond a variety of materials, making it useful for repairing both clubheads and shafts.

By using epoxy for golf club maintenance, you can extend the life of your clubs and improve their performance on the course. With a little effort and the right tools, you can keep your clubs in top condition for years to come.

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The first 18-hole golf course built in Russia, Moscow Country Club, hosts the exclusive PGA European Tour. Located just eight miles from the city center, this luxurious facility was created by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr . The design takes advantage of a typical Russian birch and spruce forest to provide a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■

European Tour Properties has extended its portfolio of Destinations by welcoming Moscow Country Club as the 28 th  venue within its extensive network of world-class venues.

Situated only an hour outside of Moscow, the club features Russia’s first 18-hole championship course and will host the Staysure Tour’s VTB Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) from August 17-19, 2018.

The Country Club combines five-star hospitality with top-quality golf in a tranquil setting close to the Russian capital, and this new partnership extends the network to 28 venues within 21 countries, across three continents.

The course itself was designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones II and is nestled within dense Russian forest of thick firs and birches, offering a fascinating landscape for any golfer.

In addition to golf, Moscow Country Club features a five-star hotel, cottages and townhouses to rent throughout the year, and a choice of eight restaurants for guests to enjoy.

With an indoor and outdoor pool, state-of-the-art gym, tennis courts and other leisure activities, the extensive facilities at Moscow Country Club make the venue a strong addition to European Tour Properties’ network.

David MacLaren, Head of European Tour Properties, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Moscow Country Club as the 28th member of our network of world-class venues and particularly pleased to welcome our first Destination in Russia.

“Moscow Country Club is both a fine golf resort and an established tournament venue. Our other Venues are sure to welcome the further expansion of our network within key geographical locations worldwide.

“In August, Moscow Country Club will host the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship on the Staysure Tour and we look forward to golfers from all over the world visiting our newest Destination.”

Andrei Dukhovny, Director of the GlavUPDK affiliated Moscow Country Club, said: “We are very excited to be part of the European Tour Properties network. We are looking forward to working with their team and using their expertise to enhance our customers’ experience both on and off the course.

“Moscow Country Club is a stand-out Russian golfing destination, with the Staysure Tour set to visit in August for the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship.
