I have just sent this email regarding an appointment for a tourist Visa……..

Could I have an appointment to apply for a 30 day, single visit, tourist Visa for India, at the Manchester office.

Do you have any appointments from 7th January please.

Telephone number 07983 348289

I forgot to ask what is the cost of the Visa? Is there an administrative fee for applying ? How long does the process normally take?

Kind regards Jean Howe

This web site is pointless as its not possible to apply online and it is not possible to arrange an appointment. Like the other comments, the service that VFS provide is appalling.

I have managed to submit an application for e-visa online, I have the Application ID , however I was unable to pay the subsequent monies required I fly out on the 25th June. I’ve tried calling on both numbers on your website and emailed for an appointment. There has been no response from anyone. I have since learned India is in dispute with the uk and is not issuing e visa to uk citizens. The airlines have not pass this information on and are allowing bookings knowing we cannot enter without visa’s. What information have you passed on informing the public and others of these actions. Will I be able to fly out on the 25th June or do I have to postpone my trip. I’ve been told I cannot visit the consular without an appointment I am waiting for someone to contact me urgently. please can you assist me.

  • Passports, travel and living abroad
  • Travel abroad
  • Foreign travel advice

Entry requirements

This advice reflects the UK Government’s understanding of current rules for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK, for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in India set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the  High Commission of India in London or another Indian consulate in the UK .

COVID-19 rules

There are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travellers entering India.

Passport validity requirements

Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into India.

Your passport must also: - have 2 blank pages for your visa

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

Visa requirements

Apply for the right type of visa for the purpose of your travel.

You need a visa to travel to India unless you are an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder.

India has a number of visa categories. Make sure you get the right visa for the purpose and duration of your travel.

Penalties for having the wrong visa can include refusal of entry or deportation. This may also include not being allowed to enter India in the future.

For latest information on Indian visas and immigration requirements, see the  e-FRRO online portal (part of the Indian Foreigners Registration Office), the  Bureau of Indian Immigration website  and  Indian Ministry of External Affairs website .

Applying for a visa or e-visa

Find out how to apply for a visa from the Indian Bureau of Immigration Depending on your requirements you may be able to apply for:

  • regular (paper) visa
  • e-visa (make sure to check the website’s ‘FAQs’ for restrictions on airports and seaports of entry)

Check your eligibility and any restrictions before you apply and allow plenty of time for your application to be processed.

More information is available from the website of High Commission of India in London .

Applicants of Pakistani origin

If you are of Pakistani origin, a British-Pakistan dual national, or holding a National Identity Card for overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), the visa processing time will be substantially longer than other visa applications. More information is available from the High Commission of India in London .

If you are a British-Pakistan dual national, you must apply for an Indian visa on your Pakistani passport. If you have renounced your Pakistani nationality or cancelled your Pakistani passport, you will need to submit documentary proof of this.

Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholders

If you hold a valid Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card, you can use this, along with your valid British passport to visit India. You do not need a visa. If you have a Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) card, you will need to convert it to an OCI card. More information is available from the  High Commission of India in London  and the  Indian Bureau of Immigration .

Arrival, registration, and extensions

If you plan to stay in India for more than 180 days and do not hold an OCI card, register within 14 days of arrival with the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) . You could be denied permission to leave if you do not do this. Check if you are required to  register your arrival .

Overstaying in India on a visa is an offence. Make sure you leave the country before your visa expires or get an official extension if needed. More information is available on the Indian Bureau of Immigration website.

If you’re hospitalised

If you or someone you’re travelling with has a short-term Tourist Visa and is hospitalised, you may be able to extend or ‘convert’ to a Medical Visa .

Exit requirements

You will pass through immigration as you depart India. Officials will check when you entered the country. If you do not have an entry stamp, for example if you have a newly issued passport, you will need to apply for special exit visa before you travel. This must be done online and can take between five and fifteen working days for straightforward applications. Factor this into your timeframe to leave India when you are booking flights. For further information see the  e-FRRO online portal (part of the Indian Foreigners Registration Office).

Vaccination requirements (other than COVID-19)

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the vaccinations and vaccination certificates you may need on TravelHealthPro (from the UK’s National Travel Health Network and Centre).

Depending on your circumstances, these may include:

  • yellow fever

The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also provides  vaccination guidance and data .

Accommodation

By law, hotels, hostels and other accommodation providers must register the stay of foreign guests with the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office (FRRO) using a “C Form”.  Please ask your accommodation provider to ensure they have done so.

Customs rules

There are strict rules about goods that can be brought into and taken out of India . You must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty.

Satellite phones and listening devices

It is illegal to possess and operate satellite phones in India without a licence. British nationals have been arrested for bringing them into the country without prior permission. You can contact the Indian Department of Telecommunication to request a licence .

You may also need prior permission from the Indian authorities to bring equipment like listening or recording devices, radio transmitters, powerful cameras, or binoculars into India. You can ask the High Commission of India in London for advice.

Taking money into India

There are restrictions on bringing Indian rupees into India.

Visitors, including tourists, must not bring any amount of Indian currency into the country. If you’re resident in India, you can bring up to 25,000 rupees into the country.

If you’re visiting India, you can bring cash, travellers’ cheques (in pounds sterling or another foreign currency) or a bank card with you and exchange or withdraw rupees once in India.

You must declare any amount above 5,000 US dollars in notes, or 10,000 US dollars in notes and travellers’ cheques combined.

India brings back eVisa for UK travellers

British holidaymakers heading to India will no longer need to apply for a visa in person

India is reinstating eVisas for travellers from the UK, the High Commissioner of India to the UK has announced. The move comes as India enters its peak tourist season.

In 2021 the application process for eVisas was reinstated following the coronavirus pandemic. However, the UK was not among the countries put back on the list.

This meant that British travellers planning holidays and business trips to India had to apply for a visa in person, which can be costly and time consuming. However on December 5, the High Commission announced a U-turn on the decision.

In a video Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK, said: “We are rolling out eVisas once again, the service will be made available to you forthwith. In the announcement that is to follow you will see the specific dates, procedures and cost all set out again and that should enable friends from the UK to travel far more easily to India.

“So welcome back, eVisas are up ahead and all our other services of course, including Visa at Your Doorstep remain available to you. We look forward to a good winter season in which everyone gets to celebrate their festivals in India, which is the land of festivals.”

A tweet accompanying the video said: “Team HCI_London is delighted to confirm that the e-Visa facility will again be available for UK nationals travelling to India. System upgrade is underway and the visa website will soon be ready to receive applications from friends in the UK.”

The UK is now listed among the countries whose citizens are eligible for an eVisa on the Indian visa website.

india tourist visa manchester

thank you for help. one more question can you get application form from inda embassy manchester

There is no Indian embassy in Manchester, it's a checking centre that sends them to the Consulate in Birmingham.

All applications have to be made online, even if you are applying in person. You can do that here http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/. This is the official website.

' class=

Does anyone have a contact phone number for the Manchester Indian Visa Office as we live a distance away but still think it may be better to go there in person. What paperwork do you have to send? Thankyou.

There is no contact number specifically for Manchester VFS.

Regardless of whether you apply by post or in person, you still need the same documentation.

You can't get a same day visa if that's what you were thinking.

If you take your documentation to Manchester, it will be returned to you by Royal Mail SDE or DX Courier (your choice). You can't collect it back from Manchester.

Savannah88, it's really not worth travelling from W Yorkshire to Manchester just to submit your application.

Once you hand them over they're sent to Birmingham for processing and then sent to your home address .

You will be better sending them off to London to be processed yourself it takes the same amount of time.

Hi can I just check I have fully understood all this as reading the information it sounds daunting!!

We live in Manchester & am applying for visas & see there is No phone number for any queries

at the Manchester Visa Centre so we just turn up. Here goes !!!

1. Go on-line and complete the Visa Application Forms & my Mission Office is Birmingham.

2. Pay on line with a debit card & get the final Woo numbers & receipt.

3. Print off Applications (retain a copy) & attach the 2 x 2 photos and take them along with my Passport into Manchester Visa Centre, Mossley Street. I guess they send them off to Birmingham for me?

Have I got it all correct? Any advice would help. Many thanks

Need some advice on getting a visa.

We are due to fly out to Delhi on the 28th of march, if i do a postal application will we get our visa's back in time.

Also can I post all 4 passports and supporting documents in the same envelope?

If we go to the manchester visa centre in person will all four applicants need to attend? (Me, Wife and 2 small children)

Thanks in advance

I can't help with all, but yes you should definitely have enough time to send off your passports and get the visa back in time! you also have to send 4 separate envelopes for them to send your passports back… but not sure about sending them… :-(

"Important Note: A maximum of one processed passports shall be returned in one(Royal MailSDE/DX) envelope. Applicants are requested to pay the required courier to return the processed passport along with the visa fees and VFS service charges, if one envelope is not provided per application"

Sorry I'm not sure about going to the visa application centre, I imagine all will need to go, but thats just a guess! good luck :-)

Take note of the extra documentation you need to provide for under 16s.

Thanks for you advice, have decided to take my applications in person to Manchester.

Yes pollycat I have noted the extra paperwork involved, they ask for a letter of consent from parents, is there a template for this?

Does anyone know if all 4 of us need to attend or can I go alone with all the applications.

Is there a contact number for the Manchester application centre, I can't seem to find one for them. The contact number for the Birmingham High Commission constantly rings out without anyone answering.

Thanks again

I person can attend and take all the applications but it is appointment only and each applicant has to have an appointment.

Thanks, I have booked 4 appointments as there are 4 applications.

I will be attending tomorrow alone as wife has work and kids are in school.

That's good; hope it all goes ok.

Do I need to write a consent letter for my children as both parents are travelling with them?

Yes you do. Here is a suggested format taken from another thread.

India House

For the attention of the visa officer,

I / we,…………………… can confirm that my child …………………. Is travelling

with there mother/father ……………….. to India for tourism purposes, we both

give our full consent for their holiday in India. We arrive in India ……date…….

And will be departing on ……date……..

Yours sincerely

Father’s name

……………………………….. Date:

Mother’s name

……………………………….. Date

As your visas will be issued at the Birmngham Consulate you will need to put that address and not the High Commission, London address. Here is a link with the address.

http://cgibirmingham.org/contactus/display/

Thanks for that I actually had them printed off with the London high commission details, just printed off with Birmingham details.

One last thing (hopefully) on the actual application form under previous india visa details, as I do not know the details and in order to progress with the form online, I have put 00000000 for the visa number and also put a date of 01/012000. I have then put a line through both and put previous visa number unknown and previous issue date unknown.

Will this be ok.

thanks in advance

What Do Indian Tourists Want? We Asked 5 Hotel Brands – India Report

Bulbul Dhawan , Skift

May 8th, 2024 at 11:00 PM EDT

Due to close proximity, the nations of Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan witness significant tourism from India. With preferences of Indian travelers changing, boutique properties are reaching out with diverse offerings to attract this tourism segment.

Bulbul Dhawan

The Skift India Newsletter is your go-to platform for all news related to travel, tourism, airlines, and hospitality in India.

India is a key source market for the neighboring countries of Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. In February, India was the biggest source market for Nepal, accounting for more than 25% of foreign tourist arrivals in the country.

For Bhutan, Indians accounted for 60% of the total international tourists in the first three months of 2024. The country is expecting 150,000 Indian tourists this year, more than double that of 2023.

In Sri Lanka, the number of tourists from India in the island nation increased by over 100% in January.

What are they doing to keep the growth going? Skift caught up with some boutique hotel brands from these three countries that were in India for a trade event.

Here’s what we learned:

Amrit Rajaratnam, founder of Galle Fort Hotel, Sri Lanka: Indian travelers are seeking authentic, experiential, and unique experiences, Rajaratnam said.

“They seek bespoke luxury experiences and are inclined to invest in shorter, luxe getaways as opposed to longer trips. They want unique, immersive travel experiences, which are family friendly and exclusive.” Rajaratnam added that Indian travelers prefer privacy, often booking entire properties for their group travels.

Khin Omar Win , owner of Gangtey Lodge, Bhutan: “Discerning Indian travelers are more mindful, curious, and adventurous. They seek cultural immersion. The biggest trend we have experienced is the shift in interest from classic travel to developed destinations to more immersive, nature-focused travel and soft adventure,” Win said.

He added that pre-Covid, his property received very little interest from the Indian market but this has significantly increased post-pandemic.

Nilanka Martinus, managing director of Mosvold Boutique Hotels, Sri Lanka : “Indian travelers are looking for unique boutique luxury experiences, coupled with a discerning palate for great food, particularly with a strong preference for vegetarian options. They highly value personalized attention and excellent service standards.”

The Indian market, particularly the middle and upper-middle class, is increasingly inclined to splurge on luxurious travel experiences and boutique hotels and have moved away from package tours, Martinus shared.

Prabina KC Chhetri, sales and marketing director of Dwarika’s Group of Hotels and Resorts, Nepal: She said that apart from experiential tours, Indians are also inclined towards holistic well-being, spiritual and cultural experiences, and sustainable travel.

Hashan Cooray, managing director of Jetwing Hotels, Sri Lanka: Jetwing Hotels has been witnessing increased interest in properties that offer agricultural experiences and tea estate experiences. “Luxury wellness retreats are seeing increased demand from Indian travelers, where they look to stay for a week or more, immersing themselves in daily physical activities, health routines and treatments. Wildlife tours in Yala, Kumana as well as in the Sigiriya region are also gaining popularity,” said Cooray.

Thailand Extends Visa Waiver for Indians Until November 11

Thailand has extended the visa-free arrival arrangement for Indian travelers till November 11. The Thai cabinet on Tuesday approved a plan to extend the visa exemption for six more months.

In November last year, Thailand decided to grant visa-free entry to Indians and Taiwanese citizens from November 10 till May this year. This visa waiver would have ended on Friday.

Travelers from the two countries would be allowed to stay without a visa in Thailand for a period not extending 30 days.

In the first four months of 2024, Thailand recorded over 12 million visitor arrivals, representing a 39% increase over the same period in 2023. More than 550,000 Indians visited Thailand during this period. Thailand expects the number of visitor arrivals from India to reach 1.7 million this year .

India is one of the most important source markets for Thailand and is also the fastest-growing. In 2023, over 1.6 million Indian travelers visited Thailand , making the country the fourth-largest source market for Thailand. These tourists spent more than THB 63 billion ($1.7 billion).

Sri Lanka has also renewed its visa-free entry for visitors from India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. The visa-free entry will allow these visitors to stay in Sri Lanka for 30 days.

IHG Opens India’s First Voco Hotel

IHG Hotels and Resorts has opened India’s first voco hotel – voco Jim Corbett. The 70-key resort marks the introduction of IHG’s seventh brand in India. The hotel chain has four other voco hotels in its India pipeline – in Mumbai, Amritsar, Gurugram, and Goa.

Last month, the company announced its plans to double its operating portfolio in India , aiming to have 100 trading hotels in the country by 2029. In 2023, the hotel chain’s occupancy rate surpassed pre-Covid levels significantly, it said in a statement.

Post the 2023 performance, the company has ambitious expansion plans for India. IHG’s Southwest Asia managing director Sudeep Jain said, “We are on track to record another successful year, fueling our growth ambitions in the country.”

80% of Indian Travelers Prefer Domestic Destinations

Nearly 80% of the Indian travelers prefer domestic destinations as opposed to international ones, shared travel advisory firm VIDEC’s CEO Virendra Jain at the Arabian Travel Mart 2024. While speaking about India’s rapid emergence as a crucial source market for global tourism, Jain shared the characteristics and behaviors of Indian travelers.

As many as 59% travelers in India prefer short weekend trips. “The primary motivator for these trips is the need for a break from daily life, with 33% of travelers seeking leisure escapes.”

He also asserted the need to understand the trends and behaviors among Indian travelers. “Coupled with India’s rising digital proficiency and infrastructural enhancements, these trends are shaping India into a dynamic source market for global tourism, necessitating targeted engagement strategies to capitalize on this growth,” he said.

ATM 2024: India’s travel market is a $72b opportunity in the making

Travel & tourism.

As demand surges, Indians prefer destinations about 5 hours away

STOCK INDIA AIRPORT

Dubai: How do you tap the tourism potential of Indian travelers?

The fifth largest economy in the world, India is home to 1.44 billion people - and 27.3 million people travelled out of the country in 2023. That number is expected to reach 30 million this year, which is why there’s so much interest in Indian tourists. And became a talking point at the Arabian Travel Market on Monday.

At the session – ‘Unlocking the true potential of Indian travelers – the moderator Virendra Jain, co-founder and CEO of Videc, set the ball rolling, saying that the Indian travel market is a $49 billion opportunity that is estimated to grow to $72 billion by FY-2026, driven mainly by a young and digitally-savvy population.

Jain said: “India right now has 93 million active passports. 14 million of them were issued in 2023, seven times the number of passports India issued in 2000, which is symbolic of the upward trajectory of travellers coming from India.”

Jain was joined by Ross Veitch, CEO and co-founder of Wego, Raj Rishi Singh, CMO and CBO-Coporate of MakeMyTrip, and Ankur Garg, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India Express.

At the end of 50 minutes, they were sure that the profile of Indian travellers had changed, with leisure and tourism forming a critical avenue for spending.

Stock-ATM

Within 5 hours

One uniform observation was the preference of Indians for destinations that require only five hours of flying time. That makes the UAE a destination of choice, and Dubai is seen more like a domestic destination.

How do you attract the Indian tourist? Five ways, maybe.

Cheap and easy visas, affordability, direct flights and payment systems are among the factors travellers take into account before deciding on a destination.

Ease the visa regime

Veitch insisted that the visa regime is a critical factor in attracting Indian travellers. A Schengen visa will take 30 days, if you are lucky, and a US visa appointment would take up to 365 days, he said.

“The best thing you could do if you want to stimulate this market is to rationalise your visa policies,” Veitch added.

Garg concurred, saying visa policies do matter. “The visa cost starts having a lot of product impact. We have seen countries with visas on arrival and countries where the visa cost is low. When the international destination is cheaper or at par with the domestic destinations, the decision will depend on the ease of getting the visa and the cost of visa,” the Air India Express official said.

What spurs Indians to travel abroad? Veitch says income is one of the main drivers.

“More than 50 million households in India are on more than $10,000 a month today. That number is growing at a rapid pace, and in another four years, it will add another 30 million households.

“So, with overall incomes going up, the number of people who can afford to travel outside is also going up.”

Garg said Indian travellers no longer come from only the metros but also from smaller cities around the country. “From Amritsar Jaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore and Goa, we have seen that kind of traffic in the last two to three years. I feel that a lot of growth is going to come from having non-stop connectivity from the next set of towns and cities in India to international destinations,” the chief commercial officer of Air India Express said.

Changes to travel patterns

Even the pattern of travel has changed. Rishi Singh pointed out that Indians now readily opt for weekend travel.

“Earlier, the Indian scenario was one long and one short vacation. This changed to multiple short vacations, and at times people skip long vacations. And so I think it’s affordability and how fast you can reach that place [decides the destination],” the MakeMyTrip official said.

Rishi Singh said one of their surveys showed that 85 per cent of the respondents were first-time outbound travellers, which translates into 27 million outbound passengers.

Earlier, the Indian scenario was one long and one short vacation. This changed to multiple short vacations... - Raj Rishi Singh of MakeMyTrip

“When you are travelling internationally, there is this external anxiety, especially if you’re a first-time traveller. So it’s important to have someone to support you during the journey. So we’ve been trying to build journeys, both through digital and otherwise, where we deal away with this insanity,” the MakeMyTrip official said.

Jain noted that the payment system is one area that requires more attention. “Founded in 2016, UPI in 2022 accounted for six times the value of transactions compared to debit and credit cards combined [in India]. It’s way ahead in growth right now; there are seven countries that accept UPI as a payment mechanism,” he said.

“Travel is a lifestyle revenue that grows as the economy grows. So, there’s a correlation between outbound departure and GDP per capita. There is a very clear trend over 30 years as the per capita income has grown, and so have the outbound departure numbers,” Jain added.

“The Indian government is doing the right things, from a macroeconomic point of view, to sustain the sort of growth needed to drive this sort of outbound numbers,” Veitch said.

Travel to the Schengen area for Indian nationals is significantly easier with the introduction of new rules that allow frequent travelklers access to a longer visa period overall.

On 18 April 2024, the European Commission adopted more favourable rules for visas issued to Indian nationals residing in India. 1  The new rules, known as the visa “cascade” regime, will allow Indian nationals who reside in India to have access to long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for two years after having obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years.  The initial two-year visa can then be followed by a five-year visa, provided that the passport has sufficient remaining validity, providing for a longer stay by the individual.

WHY THIS MATTERS

The new visa cascade regime for Indian nationals residing in India who apply for Schengen (short stay) visas in India will allow easier access to visas with longer validity for travellers with an established travel history, if the passport validity allows.

In effect, this means that the holder of the new visa would enjoy travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals.

The new rules are expected to enhance mobility between India and Schengen-area European countries.

Schengen visas allow the holder to travel freely in the Schengen area for short stays of a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period. 2  Although the Schengen visa grants entry to the Schengen area, it does not grant a right to work.

The Schengen area consist of 29 European countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

According to a press release, "This decision comes in the context of strengthened relations under the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, which deals with comprehensive cooperation on migration policy between the EU and India." 3   The Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility was signed in 2016. 4

Indian nationals who held and used at least two Schengen visas within three years preceding their application, can obtain a Schengen visa for a two-year period followed by a visa for a period up to five years.

This visa allows multiple entries into the Schengen area.

MEIJBURG & CO. INSIGHTS

It is important to note that the validity of the new visa is linked to the validity of the individual’s passport.  Issued visas cannot have a duration that exceeds the validity of the passport it is issued for.

Parties affected by the new rules may wish to consult with their immigration counsel or a professional with the KPMG Immigration network .

Thailand extends visa exemption for Indians. Here's what all you can see beyond Bangkok

Thailand's popularity amongst indians can be attributed to various factors, including its affordable food, accommodation, vibrant nightlife, and serene landscapes..

Listen to Story

Thailand is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, attracting millions of visitors each year. Photo: Unsplash

  • Indians' travel to Thailand has surged due to various reasons including affordable lifestyle and social media influence
  • This has lead to an extension in the Visa-free entry policy for Indian citizens
  • Thailand's popularity is increasing due to its stunning beaches, vibrant cities, delicious cuisine and amazing nightlife

In 2024, Indians are travelling more than ever before. In fact, several surveys project our total travel expenditures to reach $410 billion by 2030.

So popular, but why?

Thailand's popularity amongst Indians can be attributed to various factors, including its affordable food, accommodation, vibrant nightlife, and serene landscapes, all just a four-and-a-half-hour flight from the national capital, Delhi (that too at low prices).

Another reason is the hype that has been created on social media by Indians and Indian travel influencers that has showcased Thailand as the ultimate "party heaven".

This has also drawn a lot of people to Thailand who want to rejuvenate themselves from their daily life.

Visa-free for Indians

  • Out of all the reasons that we have told you, Thailand’s popularity further surged when, last year, it declared a visa-free entry policy for Indian citizens.
  • This policy, which was introduced on November 10, 2023, and was initially set to expire on May 10, 2024, further bolstered Thailand's appeal.

Me and my girlfriend have messed up basically.

As of yet I have filled in all the forms and just need to go to an application centre. Could someone please give me information on how long it takes if I drop my application in Manchester in the next 24hs and what I will need, I have everything on the checklist but would like some clarification.

    Thanks in advance

    ' class=

Why are you trying to make an appointment if you are only going to be in India for 10 hours?

Wouldn't the e-visa be the best bet for you?

Or is there a specific reason you can't apply for the e-visa?

We can't have an e visa because we are entering India by sea so have to have a tourist visa. I have double checked this because couldn't believe it! Also we have to have this visa even if we are not getting off the ship. Thank you once again for your reply.

Bumping this on behalf of BuxtonbMaria:

Can anyone help about getting an appointment at Manchester, please?

In all my years of applying, I never visited a centre.

i think you have to do it on-line i'm afraid

This is a very informative thread. Unfortunately, I messed up.

After spending hours and hours on my application I accidentally mailed it to the High Commission rather than a VFS office. I had obtained a Visa before in 2013 and the system has changed (it's even more confusing). I am a Canadian student in the UK in Manchester. I didn't realise that a VFS office existed in Manchester and sent everything to the London High Commission, as this is the address given on multiple documentations.

Hi. We had problems getting our visa in Manchester, after spending ages filling in the forms we went to Manchester to the visa office on Moseley Street, this had moved ! It is now at Universal Square ,we got a taxi there £5, and after a fairly long wait we handed in our forms and these were dealt with vey quickly. This was last Monday and the passports with the visa came on Friday. So don't despair!

Has the High Commission sent the application back groffin?

If you are going for 30 days or less you can apply for ETourist Visa. Here is a link to a visa Guide with all the information you need.

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g297604-c220339/Goa:India:Etourist.Visa.A.Guide.html

If you are going for longer than 30 days you can apply for the regular visa, which I assume is the one you have already done. There is also a Guide for this one. Link is here.

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g297604-c220098/Goa:India:Visa.Guide.html

The correct place to send postal applications to is the Hounslow one on this link. If you want to take in person to Manchester the address is also on this link. If you do decide to attend in person you will need to make an appointment.

    http://www.vfsglobal.com/India/UK/contact_us.html

Thank you for the quick replies.

Because I am a Canadian living in the UK as a student, I do not think that I qualify for the etourist visa. I think that's only for UK citizens. Also, my processing times are a bit longer because I'm a Canadian in the UK.

I'm just not certain, what happens at this point? My application (along with my passport) will arrive in the post to the HIgh Commission in London within the next couple of hours when I should have sent it to VFS. Will they send it back to me? Ask me to come all the way up to London to pick it up? Forward it to VFS? Or process it themselves? Surely, given the complexity of the process, I cannot be the only one who has made this mistake and they must have some protocol in place?

Canada is on the list for ETourist Visa. I don't see why you cannot apply for the visa from the UK with a Canadian passport. No additional documentation is required. Photo page of passport and a photo are all that are required to be uploaded at the end of the application process. You will be putting a UK address and will answer the question >>Have you lived for at least two years in the country from where you are applying for a visa?

I have no idea what the High Commission will do once they receive your application. They have not dealt directly with visa applications since they first outsourced the service to VFS about 6 years ago.
