NEVER NEVER NEVER SIGN WITH INDUS TRAVELS

I don’t normally post reviews, but for Indus I’m going to make an exception. I didn’t post anything after the first bad trip, which I wrote off to they were just having a bad day. But after the second trip I realize more people have to know. On the first trip, in 2019 to Peru/Mach Pichu …, I booked the trip and INDUS cancelled for some reason. But another similar, one day shorter trip, was available, same money, minor date change. I accepted as I hadn’t yet made any commitments for travel, hotels, etc. But I’d paid for a number of optional excursions that were now mostly included in the new tour. When I asked for a corresponding adjustment in the price, they refused for reasons that made no sense; it was obvious they considered my money theirs. After 10 or more emails I gave up on the issue as it was only a couple hundred dollars. As for the trip, while I enjoyed the sites and accommodations, there is one thing that separates Indus from all the other tours I’ve been on, and that is there is no continuity in the guides. In the 10 days, we had 6 different Indus guides for 8 of the days and for two days we had totally independent private contractors. Not a good experience as buses drop off portions of the customers at different restaurants depending on who contracted them, I toured Machu Pichu entirely on my own as I missed the handoff between the contractor who put us on the train to the other unknown contractor we were supposed to find at the other end in the chaotic crowd. Don’t get me wrong, I probably enjoyed it more this way, but such errors are inevitable without a continuity of guides. The second trip in 2022 to Scandinavia was worse. I’d paid the single supplement on the first trip, but for seoond the single supplement rate had gone up considerably (no qualms about that) and while the Indus site as all travel companies do, lists prices as assuming double occupancy, they allow for one to sign up as a single. I assumed that like other agencies such as Cosmos or Intrepid to name a few, that meant they’d find a second person to share a room with, and if that wasn’t the case they just wouldn’t let me sign up. Imagine my chagrin when an hour after paying the Single downpayment, I get a call from Indus stating that that entry was there for couples who sign up independently, and even if I signed up with other expectations, under no circumstances would they refund my money – either I had to pay the incremental single supplement or find a partner. Another case of once they have your money, it’s theirs, regardless. Having no real choice, I paid the additional single supplement. The second, and bigger issue, is two weeks before I’m to depart, I get an email from Europamundo Vacaciones welcoming me to their tour. It seems this was never an Indus tour, but rather they resold a Europamundo tour; no mention of that little detail on their website. Worse, it was a joint Spanish/English tour. 60% Spanish participants. I have nothing against Spanish speaking people, but never go on a joint language tour if it can be avoided. Half the bus announcements are for things you passed long ago, and you stand waiting at sites while the other part of the group gets the site explanation, and so on. Not good. While I have no issues with Europamundo Vacaciones, they had a much longer 20 day agenda with clients joining and leaving at various points so there was never any start or end activity as there normally is. In summary as I said before I enjoyed the trips and don’t fault the accommodations, the sites we saw, or the local guides. My entire disrespect is for the company and the people in the head office. Their #1 priority is Indus and they have zero interest in accommodating clients needs. I’m ashamed to find out they’re Canadians.

Just returned from the Wonders of Athens, Mykonos, Santorini and Crete self guided tour booked with Indus Travel. So happy we experienced these beautiful islands. It was a busy trip and wished we had added a couple of more days which would have been possible with Indus Travel self guided tours. They arranged all of our hotels, ferries, many transfers and flights which saved us a lot of headache to book on own. Thank you Indus.

We booked a Portugal tour package with Indus in November, for July 5 departure. Total price (for Land and Air) was $4,524. Website says “Guaranteed Departures”. Hah! We were informed in May (almost 6 months after booking!) that the July 5 tour was cancelled, but we could go July 19 instead. They had never actually issued our flight tickets. Trouble is, we had already booked an extra week in Madeira, starting July 12. So now we had to change to Land Only, and get our own flight tickets. But then Indus charged us their May prices (for Land Only) $3,726 – much higher than their November rates when we had originally booked. That’s only $800 less than our original price, but now with No Flights included! We certainly could not get return flights Toronto to Lisbon for 2 people for $800.!! This trip cost us way more than we had planned on, because of this Bait-and-Switch operation. Watch out!

Booked a tour of England, Scotland & Ireland for August 17 - August 32, 2023. I was not told until after final payment that the tour would be with Europamund. The hotels for the most part were sub-par. The bus driver watched movies on his cell phone while driving and at one point barely missed having an accident. The tour guide, whom I was told would be English speaking was actually Spanish speaking and spoke some broken English. He spent most of his time explaining places and things in Spanish. We did not see very much as we spent most of our time on the bus speeding down the highway. We missed most cultural and historical sites, instead stopping at small towns with little or no history. we were usually guided to town / city centre pointed in the direction of bathrooms, shops, restaurants and some ruins and told to go and explore and be back on the bus in 1 - 2 hours. I have done many, many tours of this nature over the years through Europe, Asia the Americas etc. and this is the first time that after 13 days on the road I did not learn anything more than I already knew. To say that this tour was disappointing and poorly organized would be an understatement. I could not in good conscience recommend this trip to anyone. This trip should have been scheduled for at least 25 - 30 days, better organized, better hotels and admittance to historic landmarks and for that I would have been happy tp pay a bit more. We had two city tours (London & Scotland) where the guides spoke English, other guides were Spanish speaking. My advice to English speakers is to thoroughly research & review the tour company before committing because once you pay, they will not refund your money.

Below is some of my correspondence with Indus. I never received any explanation for all the issues or an apology or even a callback. The money I was overcharged took me over two months to get back. I was told many stories like, the check was sent, he check has been signed and will be sent. The last one was the accountant has passed away so the have to have a meeting. In short the worst customer service, we didn’t get what we paid for. And no one seemed to care, just got the run are for months. Today august 21 we got our check and first promised it June 7. Buyer beware! Kathy mahalak Also I. Waiting for a refund for money I was overcharged, single supplement x 2?….. 9:56:50 AM Good Afternoon Monica! We talked a bit about my trip but I wanted to send you an email with a few of the issues my husband and I had with the trip. Firstly was the guide. I do not have her full name but I’m sure you have access to it. She was very unprofessional. Stating over and over how the Jewish men treated women so badly. She did not agree with covering shoulders or knees, we heard this many times. She wore a sheer top and waited to be told she had to cover, then started a long conversation about how she didn’t agree and we were born naked, jesus would not make us cover up. I paraphrased that, but was the essence. We could not understand the conversation as they spoke in their native tongue, but she told us about it. She didn’t count heads in a very busy area, my husband was taking picture and we all walked away, I realized a few minutes later and finally he showed up. I could not tell her but she never let anyone get a word in. We didn’t realize they Indus wasn’t going to run our trip but give to CTO, I think this should have been made crystal clear. I wonder if the hotels and guides were vetted. We paid for the small group package but going to Jordan we were on a bus with 2 other groups, we had to make many stops and it took about 6 or more hours to get to out hotel. This happened going to and coming from Jordan. To much time driving and this is why we pay for a smaller group trip. Also we were to pay for out meals on this trip but were told where to eat and had a limited choice what we could order. There were other things but may not have bothered me as much the trip was as it should have been. It was way to expensive for what we got. Good Afternoon Monica! Indus lied about the airline, not a direct flight, not Emirates. Indus booked us into fleabag hotels. The nile cruise food was pigslop. Never use them. They do not care about your travel experience.

Amazing Ecuador with Galapagos…

We booked an Ecuador with Galapagos tour with Indus. From the beginning to the end, it was exceptional. The support we received from Indus made everything smooth, even when we had two flights canceled (not due to Indus) and had to make changes. We have used Indus for multiple trips and we highly sing their praises.

BOOK ELSEWHERE

THE GUIDE DIDNT GIVE AN ENGLISH TOUR!!! Please Beware if traveling in Greece or other European Countries. I booked an English speaking tour in Greece, the tour ended up being a bus ride across the country in Spanish. I brought this to the attention of Indus the very first day of the tour! Indus utilizes EUROPMUNDO who is clearly a scam company. First and foremost, our tour itinerary included numerous unnecessary stops at small villages ill-equipped to cater to the needs of a large group like ours. This resulted in excessive travel time and a lack of suitable facilities, including toilets and restaurants capable of accommodating our group's size. The selection of hotels and the quality of food provided were subpar, leading us to feel deceived and unsatisfied with the overall value of the tour. This was exacerbated by the absence of a meet-and-greet or clear information on where to assemble on the first day. Regrettably, these circumstances led to the unfortunate consequence of spending a significant portion of our vacation on the bus, with our arrival at cities often coinciding with the closure of attractions.

If I could give them a lower score I would! I booked a trip to Morocco in October 2021. I bought travel insurance for the trip. Because of the Covid rate in Morocco the trip was canceled. They told me it was not possible to refund my money, I could book another trip. How can you plan another trip without knowing what’s going to happen with the Covid rate, New Covid variances, on and on and on.

They are SCAMMERS

They are SCAMMERS! We booked a trip in March 2022 for April 2023. Last week we got an email saying they can no longer offer those dates but we can pay more to go on a different dates. I asked for a refund but they are refusing a refund and only want to give us a credit to use with them. They have held onto our money for a year just to cancel the trip and refuse a refund.

I had a tour book to Portugal which was cancelled. Have been trying to get my money refunded. Email contact has stopped and you can't call them on the telephone. You have to leave a name and number which I did. I have started proceedings with my credit card company to get the refund. Are they still in business?

I had the misfortune of traveling with…

I had the misfortune of traveling with them to Thailand several years ago. The hotels were third rate and there was 2 stops each way on the flight. My friend who organized a trip to Egypt and Dubai swore that Indus changed their ways and the flight would be direct. Guess what? Each leg has a stop and a 3 and 5 hour delay! Of course they booked the flights a couple of months ago and just informed us a couple of weeks before the trip. The hotel in Cairo was also released and it cost $70 a night! A beautiful hotel would cost $200! It looked like a fleebag! Of course the people who organized the trip looked like deer caught in a headlight. I actually spoke to the crooks there and they said go ahead and sue us. There is nothing you can do. Please look somewhere else

Scam. Dishonest people. Stay away. Scam. Stay away. I booked a $1900+ self-drive vacation to Ireland. A few weeks later they still have not booked my itineraries which I needed because I had other flights that I needed coordinate. So I called them and I explained that I needed to cancel. They agreed to cancel and refund my money. However, they never did and when I called them again they denied that they agreed to refund me the money. So I called them to at least give me the trip then since they would not cancel. But they also refused leaving me with nothing in return for my almost $2000. I got totally scammed. Once they get your money, you are at their mercy. This is a group of dishonest people. Stay away.

Indus Mystical Egypt Tour was excellent…

Indus Mystical Egypt Tour was excellent with the exception of having to be on a flight to Aswan after arriving in Cairo requiring we all get up at 2:30 a.m. creating a major sleep deficit right off the bat. We had few people become ill with diarrhea and being dehydrated and I wonder if lack of sleep might have contributed to this condition. Luckily me and my partner were fine. To repeat Tour Guide Mohamed was terrific! Don't know how Indus provide such a value for money trip for so little money. Great value! Highly recommended.

Indus basically ruined much of our “The Best of the Amalfi Coast” trip taken this September, 2021. We booked the trip primarily to visit Positano and Ravello, close to Amalfi, Italy. Indus listed possibility of visiting these sites in its advertising as well as trip itinerary. Instead of working with us about arranging to visit these towns, Indus gave us assorted erroneous information, including that excursions had been cancelled to those villages because of Covid; that their Italian contact said we would need to pay $1000–$1500 to pay to charter boat; that no other way available to visit sites. All wrong information. When we were in Amalfi, we easily contacted the ferry and paid about 18 euros round trip for the trip to Positano. This was only the beginning of the many problems, most of them costing us more money. The driver did not meet us in the usual place at the airport. When we finally located him, he said that Indus’ instructions in their itinerary outdated. Indus did not respond to our emergency communication before we finally located the driver. Indus did not provide transportation to the Coliseum or Vatican tours as stated in the itinerary. Instead, we had to pay for round trip taxis. Indus did not provide transportation to the train station. Indus made reservations for both me and my friend (73 years old each) in separate railway cars. I was surrounded by empty seats. There was no reason to separate us. Indus did not respond to my emergency email after my friend missed the train. Indus booked us a hotel in Atrani where we had to climb a steep 81 steps to reach the hotel. We would never have agreed to that climb, as it could have been very dangerous for us. The hotel in Atrani where we were booked told us that there was no shuttle or taxi service to Amalfi. We had to hire a driver at 20 euros a trip to take us or take a steep walk including on a side of the road and a dark tunnel with no sidewalk to have reached Amalfi. Italy’s traffic is dangerously aggressive and we did not want to walk. Indus’ communication was terrible and they didn’t work with us about the problems they created in our trip. Very poor and at times non existent customer service for a very expensive trip. Also, Indus’ agent was almost impossible for us to understand, and my friend and I are native English speakers. We made it clear we could not understand him to no avail. Around $3000 each for this eight day trip. Unbelievable stress.

Do NOT book with this company

I paid a deposit of $1549.00 when I made my booking on 9/22/22. I received confirmation from Indus Travel on 9/22/22 that my booking was confirmed. On 10/4/22 I received an email from Ravi Yengkokpam that unfortunately your partner in Kenya is unable to accommodate this travel date and to consider doing it on a private basis. I had tried emailing Ravi back and scheduled a callback from him as well. I received an email from Monica Kanengoni that Ravi was out of the office, but they would look into other options and get back to me with those options in a couple of days. I heard nothing and emailed again on 10/11/22 and 10/12/22 that I had not heard back or gotten any options. On 10/13/22 Ravi emailed me that they need at least 3-4 passengers to travel that day and to wait 75 prior to travel date. No information regarding prices for private tour, no option to switch the travel dates. At that point I called Ravi and spoke to him on the phone. He was rude and unhelpful. He kept reiterating the travel dates that I booked because these dates were offered on their website, were actually not available and there was nothing he could do until 75 days prior to travel. There is nowhere on their website or their terms that state tours are NOT GUARANTEED UNTIL 75 DAYS PRIOR TO DEPARTURE. He did not have pricing or an option for a private tour and said there was nothing available in March but we can wait until 75 before departure and see what might be available then. I said that was unacceptable and asked what my other options were. He said he could offer me a voucher for $1,549.00 for future travel. Future travel??? I was trying to book a trip to Kenya through your company for March and couldn’t! I asked to speak to a supervisor. He refused to transfer me, but would have one call me back in a couple of hours. I did not hear back from anyone, so I filed a dispute with My credit card company . Rachel called me back on 10/14/22 who apparently is a supervisor. I advised her I wanted to cancel because of what was told to me by Ravi, and that I wanted to be refunded. She asked if I could be flexible with the dates in March, which I said yes. I had already told Ravi this, but was told there was nothing else available and I would have to wait 75 before travel. She said that was incorrect, and that she would contact their partner in Kenya and rebook to a confirmed tour in March or would have my deposit refunded to me. She asked that I give her 2 weeks, and if they could not accommodate that I would get a refund. She also said she would give me updates. I heard nothing. I called Indus Travel 2 weeks later and left a voicemail which was not returned. I received a letter from my cc stating I need to provide more documentation since the booking is not canceled. I emailed Rachel again today, 11/15/22 and said I have not heard back from anyone at Indus travel and would AGAIN, like to cancel my booking and be fully refunded. Her response was since I had disputed the charges, this was between their accounting department and my credit card company . I have tried calling the accounting department several times and keep getting disconnected or told they can not transfer me. My cc company can not dispute charges because the booking was not canceled, however if I cancel per Indus terms and conditions, I forfeit my deposit. I have seen the email correspondences between Indus and their partner in Kenya. Not only can Indus not guarantee my booking 75 days out, THEIR PARTNER won’t guarantee it until 30 days out because my booking is only for 1. NOWHERE on their website or your terms does it say bookings are not guaranteed until 30 days prior to departure for single travel. Not to mention I’d have to pay my balance of 1600.00 75 days out for a trip they can’t guarantee. It’s a scam company.

Thieves, deceivers, heartless!

THIEVES, DECEIVERS, LIERS, SCAMMERS, stay away! I booked a Scotland trip at Indus using their website for me and my wife back in May and the trip was going to be in August. We planned to augment as we will be arriving before the start day of the package and staying a few more days after its end date. I paid close to $1900. I waited for a week for them to send me my itineraries and hotel bookings and when none arrived I contacted Indus because I needed the hotel bookings so I can book the other itineraries. I then asked for the hotel bookings but to my surprise, they said they will send it to me 3 weeks before the trip would start - which would not work for us because we had to book other hotels and wed have to know the locations of the hotels from Indus in order for us to plan the others. I told them that I would like to cancel. They told me that the reason it takes time is because they “would like us to have the best experience”. I told them I could wait another week and gave them until Wednesday the following week and if the itineraries are not ready, I will have to cancel. One week later, that was a Wednesday, there were still no itineraries. I contacted them at 3PM, Boston time still nothing. I called my credit card company and filed a dispute. Immediately after that, I received an email from Tanya containing proposed itineraries but no confirmation from the hotels. She begged several times via email and voice mails and asked me to cancel the dispute because my credit card company was holding the payment. I considered and I agreed to try and work it out and give them a chance and so I called by credit card company and cancelled the dispute. About three weeks later, I still did not receive my confirmed itineraries from Indus and so I contacted Tanya how it was going. She said that the payment hasn’t come through from my credit card company. At that point, because it was getting to late, I asked, through their website chat, if we could just really cancel this time because obviously it wasn’t working out. She agreed that they will cancel all services. I clarified if they were still going to charge me because I did not want to lose my money. She said no. I took screenshots of the chat so I can have a proof. A weeks later, I realized that my credit card company has paid Indus and when I contacted them and explained to them that the transaction has been cancelled, they wanted a cancellation receipt from Indus. So I contacted Tanya and asked for a refund receipt to show my credit company. At that point she started denying our agreement. In short, they were begging me to cancel the dispute but once they got the money, they ran away with it. I called them and emailed them - Tanya denied our agreements because they were either verbal or via a chat and those are not accepted as evidence by financial institutions. They took my close to $1900 would not try to work things out, they just wanted the money! THIEVES, DECEIVERS, LIERS, SCAMMERS, stay away!

As a traveller from USA, Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa you will need an adaptor for types C, E, F.

Assuming your home country does not have a visa agreement with the country you're planning to visit, you will need to apply for a visa in advance of your scheduled departure.
• Here is an indication for which countries you might need a visa. Please contact the local embassy for help applying for visas to these places.
• For any tour departing before 21st July 2024 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after 21st July 2024, a minimum payment of 50% is required to confirm your booking with Indus Travels. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 90 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
• Some departure dates and prices may vary and Indus Travels will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
