About Lil Wayne & Young Money Entertainment:

Lil Wayne rewrote the entire game in his image. The five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum rap icon, Young Money Entertainment founder, acclaimed author, pro skater, philanthropist, and history-making superstar continues to leave an indelible tattoo on the culture. He has cemented his legacy forever as “one of the best-selling artists of all time,” tallying sales in excess of 100 million records worldwide with 25 million albums and 90 million digital tracks sold in the United States alone. In 2022, Wayne earned his first Diamond certification from the RIAA with his generational smash hit “Lollipop” feat. Static Major. Not to mention, he has garnered 26 BET Awards, 4 Billboard Music Awards, 7 MTV Awards, 4 Soul Train Awards and 8 BMI Awards. Among many milestones, he emerged as “the first artist to surpass Elvis Presley with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100” and has logged a staggering 183 entries – the 3rd most of all time.

With a discography highlighted by five career spanning #1 debuts beginning with 2008’s 8x platinum, 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning opus Tha Carter III and its 6x platinum, 2011 successor Tha Carter IV, he released the latest version of the series – Tha Carter V – in 2018. Not only did it clinch #1 on the Billboard 200, but it also achieved “the second-largest streaming week for an album in history.” Every song on the tracklisting charted on the Billboard Hot 100 as he became “the first artist to debut two songs in the top 5.” It all bulldozed the way for his thirteenth full-length, Funeral, a year later. Simultaneously, Wayne owns and operates Young Money Entertainment as C.E.O. The company ignited the careers of two of the most successful artists ever—Drake. Nicki Minaj and 14 RIAA- certified platinum recording artist, Tyga. Additionally, Wayne is the co-founder of Young Money APAA Sports; the full-service agency currently represents over 40 athletes and has negotiated over $1 Billion in contracts to date. The committed philanthropist founded The One Family Foundation – a charitable group focused on helping underserved youth.

Lil Wayne (born September 27th, 1982) has become an international superstar, earning his place as one of the biggest rap artists on the 21st century through his prolific output and unique flow.

Born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., Lil Wayne grew up in New Orleans, US, quickly finding a love for music and hip hop. At 11 years old, Wayne had already gained a job at the Cash Money label, soon recording an album with fellow teenager B.G. As the duo, the B.G.'Z's, they released an album in 1995, titled "True Story," which found many fans of the youngsters. Lil Wayne then became involved with another group, the Hot Boys, which included B.G. alongside Juvenile and Young Turk. The teen hardcore rap outfit released their debut, "Get It How U Live!" in 1997, catching the attention of Universal Records who went on to distribute their second release, "Guerrilla Warfare," which went to the top of Billboard's R&B/Hip-hop charts.

Lil Wayne continued to appear on various Cash Money releases, collaborating with various members of the Hot Boys. In 2003, Wayne's first mixtape, "Da Drought," was released, drawing significant attention from the press, helping to build anticipation for his next full-length. "The Carter" arrived in 2004, breaking Wayne to a mainstream audience, bolstered by the number five single, "Go DJ." Further hit singles followed, becoming one of Cash Money's best-selling releases. "The Carter II" followed n 2005, bringing Wayne further success, selling Platinum.

Wayne continued to release endless mixtapes and appeared in collaborations for various artists, most notably Birdman on the album, "Like Father, Like Son.' After rave reviews of his "Dedication 2" mixtape, Wayne then featured on Chris Bown's

"Gimme That" and Fat Joe's "Make It Rain," keeping Wayne busy till his next album release. It was not until 2008 that a new album arrived, "The Carter III," which was marred by unauthorized album leaks. Despite these setbacks, the album became a huge hit, selling a million copies within its first week. By the end of the year, the album had earned Wayne four Grammy Awards, including 'Best Rap Album,' cementing Wayne's place in the mainstream.

Wayne then turned his hands to rock, appearing alongside Kid Rock at a live performance. His first rock album, "Rebirth," arrived in 2010, unfortunately coinciding with his arrest for possession of a weapon. Despite his arrest, Wayne was still able to release a ten-song EP, "I Am Not a Human Being" in September that year. Upon leaving prison, Wayne started work on a new record, 2011's "The Carter IV," which shot to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Next, Wayne released the second volume of "I Am Not a Human Being," which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 in March 2013.

Live reviews

In a black hoodie, red cap and sunglasses, Lil Wayne started at the top — croaking lyrics at the crowd from the elevated stage like some sort of gangsta Muppet. It didn’t take long to establish himself as a master of the game with “Blunt Blowin”, “John” and “Steady Mobbin”. Then he politely thanked the audience (as he did after every set) and left the stage. Drake immediately came out as the antithesis to his opponent. Dressed all in white with a simple gold chain, looking like a college kid, Drake started at the bottom (stage) with “Draft Day”, “We Made It” and “The Language”. He didn’t leave with a simple thank you though, he needed to establish the tone first. Admitting Lil Wayne was his boss and mentor, he assured us he was going to “roast that muthafucka alive”. Wayne addressed any concerns when he came back out to give everyone a history lesson. “I heard this kid saying he was going to roast me alive. I’ve been doing this shit since he was in a wheelchair.” The Degrassi jokes continued through the set, as Wayne kept referring to Drake as Jimmy. There was also a lot of banter about hits vs. classics, as Wayne admitted Drake has more ‘hits’, but that he was lacking in the ‘classics’ department. The boxing format went on for 4 rounds. Each artist upping their game in each round. The jokes were there, but as the night went on, the jokes were interlaced with more and more respect for each other. Everything about the Battle Round was in good fun. Verse after hook after verse — they took jabs, but never came to blows. In one breath they would credit their success to one another, and in the next breath, they would call each other’s songs “cute”. It was part hip hop show, part comedy, part roast, but it was all together one of the most entertaining things I have witnessed two rappers do…ever. After a short DJ break, they both came out for the finale. “6 Foot 7 Foot”, “All Me”, “Started From The Bottom” and “The Motto” were highlights, but “Believe Me” (a collab from Wayne’s upcoming album) and the final final “HYFR (Hell Ya Fucking Right)” were among the best performances of the night. At the end of it all, they called it a draw. Supposedly Drake was 1 point ahead on the tour, so he left Red Rock with his 1 point lead. And although I went in as a diehard Wayne supporter, I believe the draw was fair. Who knows if the app really determined the winner. I’m guessing it might all be fixed and they’ll come out in a tie at the end of the tour. That would make sense. But as for their performances on Wednesday night, I think they proved that they both have their strengths and weaknesses, but they are better together. Drake’s smooth, sometime monotonous flow and crooning voice are the perfect remedy to Wayne’s quirks, alien persona and unintelligible lyrics…and vice versa. So the format of this show was perfect. It allowed the strengths to hide the flaws in each artist. It went on for 2 1/2 hours and there wasn’t a single lull in the set. People paid good money to see Drake and Lil Wayne battle it out. They got their money’s worth. At the end of the day, I believe that there were multiple winners. Drake and Lil Wayne were both honestly appreciative to have played the stage at Red Rocks. And they both got paid. The promoters and companies behind the tour will also profit from ticket and merch sales. We won as well. Those of us who were big enough fans of either Drake or Lil Wayne to have spent the money for the show were rewarded with one the best and most unique hip hop events I have ever attended.

The wayne vs drake concert was amazing! They performed almost every hit they ever made and they really brought all their energy on stage and they interacted with the crowd. Each artist performed his best and left everything on that stage. The atmosphere was so much fun and i cant wait to go to another one of their concerts! Drake on the stripper pole was pretty amazing too! It was just the most fun concert ive ever been too

Lil Wayne is a rockstar. He has so much energy and really gets the crowd going. He is a team player and was a joy to see on stage with 2 chainz. The staples center was a great venue for this show. My high expectations were met during the BET experience. I want a surprised by how many beginning acts were also there. Well done weezy!!!

IT....was incredible! He was lively, on point and it will go down as the best concert I've ever seen and I've seen A LOT! The two opening acts were fun also. He did all old school because he's jammed up with label but we did not mind at all!

Waited over 3 hours never saw Wayne so we finally just left. Very disappointed. Concert held in a very shady area. Seating was very uncomfortable. This experience most definitely has made my mind up about concerts. This will be the last one.

Lil Wayne praises Caitlin Clark and other memorable moments from Wells Fargo Arena concert

lil wayne tour nc

Lil Wayne doesn’t get enough credit. No, we're not referring to how he’s one of the most respected rappers in the music industry.

We’re talking about how he doesn’t get enough credit for how succinct he is.

The five-time Grammy winner performed at the Wells Fargo Arena on April 11, keeping the packed house bouncing as he cosplayed as a professional speed-runner, performing brief snippets of hit after hit and keeping chitchat with the crowd to a minimum save for sincere praises, some gratitude, oh, and a compliment to Caitlin Clark — but we’ll get to that later.

Weezy performed mixtape hit “Watch My Shoes” to the songs anyone listening to the radio the past two decades would recognize: “A Milli,” “Lollipop,” “Mrs. Officer,” “How to Love,” “6 Foot 7 Foot” and more.

Performing just a portion of each single meant there was never a lull, the crowd constantly cheering and shouting lyrics with ease.

And maybe the crowd at Wells Fargo Arena did so particularly well because Lil Wayne called the crowd “awesome,” saying that although people might tell them that often, the attendees truly were Thursday night.

Here are three memorable moments from Lil Wayne’s concert in Des Moines.

What we learned about Lil Wayne, by Lil Wayne

As the rapper told the crowd, here are three important things to know about him.

One, that we aren’t anything without each other. Two, that, he isn’t anything without us. And three? Once again, he isn’t anything without us. The humility continued throughout the evening, with the rapper giving a brief “thank you” to the crowd after every song.

Let’s appreciate the people behind the scenes

After performing “Rich as F---,” the rapper invited the crowd to show some appreciation.

“I’m going to need you to make some noise for the people you see standing front stage with the yellow shirts on all around this mother------ for keeping this s--- together tonight,” he said, referring to the security staff. “Also, I’m going to need you to make some noise for the people that you don’t get to see for putting this s--- together tonight.”

Lil Wayne shows love for Caitlin Clark

It’s not all that surprising that the face of college basketball got name-dropped at another concert in Des Moines fresh off Iowa women’s basketball’s return to the NCAA Tournament championship game — country star Tim McGraw donned a Clark jersey during his show at the Wells Fargo Arena in March.

It's especially unsurprising knowing that the rapper has been a women’s basketball fan. In the past year, he praised LSU basketball player Angel Reese and offered her advice in an interview with Taylor Rooks and Bleacher Report. He also congratulated Clark on social media when she reached 3,000 points in her Iowa career.

Well, the love briefly continued at his concert.

“Y’all know anything about Caitlin Clark?” Lil Wayne teased the crowd.

He called the basketball star “dope” before dedicating the next song, “I’m Single,” to the ladies in the crowd.

Who opened for Lil Wayne?

“The Uproar” singer was joined by rapper Cordae, whose debut album “The Lost Boy” was nominated for a Grammy . It was Cordae’s first time performing in Iowa.

Also opening was Australian rockers Selfish Sons. Earlier in the evening, rappers Starda and Iowa’s own Juliano Dock performed, as well as singer Young LA.

How old is Lil Wayne?

The rapper is 41 years old. He was born Sept. 27, 1982, according to Billboard .

Country trio the Castellows will open all dates.

This isn't the first time the quartet of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Philip Sweet shared the stage with Sugarland, the reunited duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. In 2008, Little Big Town, Sugarland, and Jake Owen performed Dream Academy's 1985 single "Life in a Northern Town" at the CMT Awards, and LBT would join Sugarland on their Incredible Machine Tour a few years later.

The "Take Me Home" Tour also corresponds with Little Big Town's 25th anniversary as a band. Both LBT and Sugarland teased the tour on social media prior to their CMT Music Awards performance. "I wonder what this means, ultimately" Fairchild said. "Are we just going to sing one song together and it'll be over?"

Tickets go on sale April 12. The groups' collab on "Take Me Home" will be released as a single.
