Luxury Cruises to Southeast Asia

With such a variety of cultures, islands, and natural beauty to explore, it’s no wonder cruises to southeast Asia are often at the top of any seasoned traveler’s list. Dip your toes in the crystal blue waters off the coast of Bali, or take in the big city sights in some of Asia’s most exciting capitals. Travel to ancient Buddhist temples and trek to hidden waterfalls through tropical rainforests, all on the same trip.

Discover contemporary Singapore, where you can wander through an indoor cloud forest before touring the beautiful bay. Take a yoga class in artsy Ubud before basking in the sun on one of Bali’s beaches. Visit one of the best luxury shopping destinations in Kuala Lumpur, and uncover centuries of intricate cultural and historical heritage in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam. Take your vacation to the next level on a luxury cruise to southeast Asia with Celebrity.

Southeast Asia Cruise Highlights

Wild tropical nature.

The natural splendor of southeast Asia is as abundant as it is diverse, and you’ll see examples of this at practically every port call on your cruise. From wild bird species in their natural habitat to the snake-like patterns of the Saigon River as it twists and turns through the verdant agricultural land of southern Vietnam, traveling here is a true feast for the senses. You can visit some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, rainforests, and mountains, all on one trip.

Delicious Authentic Cuisine

From Bangkok to Bali and beyond, Southeast Asia offers a world of spices, fresh produce, delicious meats, and centuries-old recipes that will excite anybody from the pickiest to the most adventurous eater. Get a true authentic taste of signature dishes and flavors at each port, from high-end restaurants to the sizzling fresh flavors of Asia’s street food stalls and markets.

World-Class Shopping

From the famous Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur to the busy Bugis street in Singapore, there’s no shortage of world-class luxury shopping options on Celebrity’s Southeast Asia cruises. You’ll find bespoke suits and gowns on Nguyen Trai Street in Ho Chi Minh, and artisan ceramics, bamboo sculptures, and woven baskets in the craft villages around Hanoi.

Featured Southeast Asia Cruise Ports

Bangkok, thailand.

The city of Bangkok has long evoked travelers’ spirit of adventure, thanks to the dazzling temples along the Chao Phraya River, the colorful floating markets, and high-end dining scene. Take a trip along the river by boat as you pass gilded pagodas and watch small neighborhoods come to life. Tour the massive Grand Palace to uncover the rich history of Thailand’s royal dynasties. Sample spicy, nutty satay and savory spring rolls at the enormous Chatuchak Market while you shop for bargains.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s largest metropolis, and a thriving business, commercial, and tourism center. Start your adventure on the busy and vibrant Pham Ngu Lao Street and try a traditional glass of sweet and nutty Nước Sâm tea. Pay a visit to the 19th-century Notre Dame Cathedral, designed in a striking neo-Romanesque style and topped with towering iron spires. Visit the floating markets along the Mekong Delta to experience an age-old tradition of Vietnamese trade and commerce.

In Singapore, you’ll find a fascinatingly advanced city anchored in both its thirst for modern might and its cultural traditions. Take a ride high in the sky aboard the Singapore Cable Car for panoramic views of the busy bay as you head from Sentosa Island up to Mount Faber Peak. Visit the delightfully colorful and fragrant National Orchid Garden, or explore the futuristic Gardens by the Bay.

Bali, Indonesia

The island of Bali is Indonesia’s blissful beach-filled, natural paradise, and the perfect place to unwind and explore on a cruise to Southeast Asia. Head to the beach in Pantai Tanjung for a thrilling watersports adventure before visiting ancient temples in nearby Denpasar. Find your inner peace and relaxation in Ubud over a fresh acai bowl and yoga session. Spend the afternoon with Balinese long-tailed macaques at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary to see these primates in their protected, yet wild habitat.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur’s ultra-modern, glassy skyline gives way to a city with a dynamic past, and both British and Malaysian roots. Venture to the observation deck near the top of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers to take in breathtaking views of the sprawling metropolis below. Try some tasty Malaysian treats from the food stalls along the charming, lantern-lit Jalan Alor street. Visit one of Asia’s most luxurious shopping centers at Suria KLCC. Learn about the city’s diverse religious history through detailed wood carvings on display at the Islamic Arts Museum.

Hanoi, Vietnam

Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi, is famous for its impressive architecture, French and Chinese cultural influences, and cuisine. Make sure to pay a visit to the lively Old Quarter, where busy streets give way to bustling eateries and small craft shops selling bamboo goods, bags, silks, and souvenirs. Get an educational perspective on the accomplishments and roles of local women at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum. Take in magnificent citywide views from inside the glassed perch at the Lotte Observation Deck, 60 stories high above the skyline – and brace yourself to step out onto the glass floor.

Luxury Southeast Asia Cruises

Explore a world of serene temples, vibrant marketplaces and palm-fringed beaches on a luxury cruise around Southeast Asia. From the emerald forests of Bali to the neon jungle of Singapore, there are plenty of sights to see.

Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam

Traverse the bustling markets of Bangkok or take a sunrise expedition to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. This temple is named after the Hindu god Aruna, who personifies as the radiations of the rising sun. The Buddhist monastery of Doi Thepnimit, located in Phuket, grants unforgettable views of Patong Bay after a climb to the summit.

Discover Cambodia via river as you cruise the Mekong. A journey of constant revelation, you will sail through fishing villages untouched by time, impenetrable rainforests. See the most iconic place in Cambodia, the Angkor Wat temple. It’s one of the biggest and best preserved temples, it’s an incredible sight to capture. As the Mekong meanders through Vietnam, stop off at o ne of the country’s most beautiful spots, Halong Bay with 1,600 pillars of limestone exploding from the turquoise water.

Another major Vietnamese landmark is the Golden Hands Bridge in Da Nang. This one of a kind structure, held in the sky by two, immense, God-like hands, projects you high above the endless, verdant Ba Na Hills. Take a beach break in the coastal town of Nha Trang. As the seafood capital of Vietnam, it is a must to dine in one of the many seafood restaurants along the coast. For more of a cultural experience, Po Nagar Cham Towers are an impressive architectural site which blends many different religions at one structure.

Similarly, glide along Burma’s most important waterway, the Irrawaddy river, to view ornate monasteries and the most sacred Buddhist temple, the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Malaysia & Singapore

Kuala Lumpur is an entanglement of towering skyscrapers with an energetic nightlife. For a romantic view of the metropolis, visit Atmosphere 360. Situated 100m higher than the Petronas Tower sky bridge, this famous revolving restaurant, resembling a spaceship, gives unrivalled, idealistic cityscapes. Contrasting the giant Petronas Towers, the Batu caves are the focal point of the Tamil festivals. A climb to the Kek Lok Si temple in Penang is highly recommended. As the biggest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, its dramatic location, situated atop the Air Itam hill, dominates the landscape. The celebrated capital city of George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a multicultural spot where ceremonious structures rub shoulders with ancient temples.

Singapore is a feast for technological innovation and ultimate luxury. The most iconic landmark being the Gardens at the Bay. This nature park of Supertree structures and greenhouses expands across over 100 hectares that are begging to be explored. The atmosphere changes at night when the oasis is illuminated by solar power. Singapore houses a multitude of Michelin starred restaurants such as Waku Ghin, located in the Marina Bay Sands, which combines Japanese presentation with French cuisine. The Marina Bay Sands contains the world’s largest infinity pool. Dive into refreshing waters whilst admiring the 360° vistas.

Philippines & Indonesia

Whether it’s the stunning views of the Hundred Islands or the secret beaches of El Nido, the Philippines has something to offer for everyone. As a gateway to a hidden paradise, accessible by small yacht, El Nido is a serene collection of clear lagoons and coral reefs. Manila, the capital city, boasts a lively art scene inspired by its Spanish heritage.

There is plenty to do in Indonesia. The Komodo National Park contains the world’s largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon. In a similar location, the Pink Beach is a picturesque stop. Influenced by the coral in the sea, the powder-pink sand contrasts the clear, turquoise waters. As a haven of peace and tranquillity, Bali is the most popular destination in Indonesia with terraced rice fields, idyllic sunsets and enchanting spiritual energy.

Quite simply, a cruise through Asia will leave you breathless beyond words. Exciting itineraries entwine with a diversity of societies, landscapes and attractions, dispatching you to environments you never knew existed. Many routes centre on Japan, heading to Nagasaki, Nagoya and Otaru, while others touch on South Korea or Russia. Cruises from China are anchored to Beijing, but more specifically its cruise dock, Tianjin, from which you sail to Shanghai and Hong Kong. That cosmopolitan icon itself is the home base for trips to

Southeast Asia, leading to in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok and Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Other Southeast spots to consider include Manila, Philippines, Indonesia or Malaysia. This corner of the world has a lot to offer. River cruising is also popular in Asia, where trips down the Yangtze River or the Mekong River send you into the splendour of the Asian inlands. It’s a world of discovery, like you’re setting foot

inside a storybook. It would take a lifetime to visit all the UNESCO World Heritage sites or see all the marine life that fills the deeps and the reefs of the China Seas, the Gulf of Thailand, the Sea of Japan and the Java Sea. November to March is the best time for a cruise to Asia, to enjoy the most sunshine and the best temperatures.

Southeast Asia Cruises

Whether you’re cruising down the Mekong or Irrawaddy, or sailing to Benoa to explore mysteries undiscovered, Southeast Asia Cruising is a unique and exciting experience. Temples, ruins, pilgrimages and more are waiting in the Far East.

Imagine journeying through Angkor Wat in Cambodia, or The Taman Ayun Royal Temple in Bali where thousands of years of religion and history have been made. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Malaysia in Penang, from Butterfly farms to Botanical Gardens. Southeast Asia is a diverse and exciting destination prime for an unforgettable vacation.

Things to Do on a Cruise to Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is the home to many up-and-coming cities and is filled with exotic cuisine that is fast becoming a favorite in America. However, this collection of nations also holds on tight to its Hindu and Buddhist cultures with expansive and shining temples dating back centuries. Continue below for sample experiences to help you make the most of your time spent cruising through Southeast Asia:

Angkor Wat in Siem Reap

  • Explore the extensive temple complex of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. These stunning buildings were constructed in the 12th century and are surrounded by a protective moat.
  • Take a moped ride through the lively streets of Bangkok, a crowded metropolis that has bustling markets, bright colorful produce, exotic street foods and a vibrant population.

Bagan Archaeological Zone in Myanmar (Burma)

  • We’ve already touched on the stunning Angkor Wat, but there are amazing temples all over this land, from the extremely intricate designs of Bangkok’s temples to the Bagan Archaeological Zone in Myanmar (Burma) where at one time there were 10,000 religious structures. Now this area is still home to over 2,000 remaining temples.
  • Walk through the streets and the markets to find beautiful handiwork, different street foods and interesting performers, like snake charmers.

Balinese massage

  • Take in the arts of Indonesia with a stop in Bali, which takes seriously its historical dances, songs and paintings.
  • Relax with a massage. Massage is like medicine to the people of Southeast Asia, so try all different forms of the service – from the pressure filled approach of the Thai massage to the soothing Balinese approach.

Bali Bucket List Tours

"I decided to go on this tour on my own at the beginning of this year and omg it was the best decision I think I’ve ever made. I met some incredible people and had the most amazing tour guide. Rio could not do more for his guests, he was so accommodating and made even the hard times (climbing up mount batur) funny. The tour it’s self is brilliant, you get to see so much in only ten days but not too much that it feels like all you’re doing is traveling from place to place. Thank you so much Bali bucklist tours for a perfect 10 days in Bali!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. We would have liked to have perhaps an extra free day. Perhaps extend the trip by a few days and then add a few extra days for just resting. As it is full on. Other than that comment it was all very good. We were well looked after and enjoyed the tour very much. Thank you Hazel and John Ravesteyn.

Get an educational perspective on the accomplishments and roles of local women at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum. Take in magnificent citywide views from inside the glassed perch at the Lotte Observation Deck, 60 stories high above the skyline – and brace yourself to step out onto the glass floor.

  • Can Italy’s Lake Garda Finally Compete With Como—or Will It Become a Victim of Its Own Success?

Crowded, cacophonous Lake Como is overflowing, filling its nearby villages and lakes with new luxury hotels and savvy, in-the-know travelers.

“Giorgio Clooney is to Como what Tom Hanks is to Garda,” says Katie Parla, author of “ Food of the Italian Islands ” and a tour leader across Italy . “Sure, Como is beautiful and charming, but Garda is equally talented, and some would say, more versatile and well-rounded.”

Grand Hotel Fasano

Long the preferred destination for Italians and other continental families, the secret of Garda has now well and truly been leaked. Investment is pouring in at Ferrari speeds.

The region’s established properties are doing their best to stay ahead of the new arrivals, too. The mountain-top wellness haven  Lefay Resort & Spa (from $460) is famous for encouraging its guests to wear their plush robes across the grounds from morning to night, as the saunter from treatment to treatment. It’s just unveiled a new, elevated room category dubbed Sky Suites that will speak to Como expats. These top-floor units are 1,500 square feet and come with a terrace hot tub, a private in-suite sauna and, of course, unimpeded views of the lake, mountains, and valleys beyond.

Lefay Resort & Spa at Lake Garda

“We don’t want that, we’re not a mass tourism product,” says Cape of Senses general manager Alina Deutsch of any attempt to clone Como at Garda. “What is luxury today? It’s what people are missing from their lives, and that’s space and time.”

“Locals, like me, really hope that our beautiful destination will remain as authentic as it is now, even if international tourism is booming and new luxury properties are going to continue opening in the next couple of years,” added Alice Lancini, Grand Hotel Fasano’s sales and marketing manager.

But the scene in Lake Garda’s is already shifting. Lancini says that in the last three to four years, U.S. travelers have made the lake hotel the brand’s second strongest market after Germany. “Lake Garda is becoming more popular in the States as it’s much cheaper than Como, less crowded—still, for now—and it’s a completely different experience than Lake Como.”

Parla adds that the 32 mile-long Lake Garda has a natural protection from “becoming a Disneyland” overnight: its massive size makes it feel more like a sea than a lake at times.

“Como the town, Bellagio, and all the fancy hotels are beyond overcrowded and have become the playground of influencers generating their FOMO-inducing content,” she says. “I don’t see a way to enjoy the lake if you stick to those two towns, which most do…Lake Garda is so much bigger.”

Its other protection? Garda isn’t a first stop for first timers. After all, would you tell someone to skip the Eiffel Tower on their first trip to Paris, or forgo the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco? Icons are icons and that includes Lake Como.

Cape of Senses

So will Garda ever become Como? Lancini thinks it’s likely, and that’s why you should get there sooner rather than later. “Lake Garda is going to boom as a destination in the next three to five years,” she says. “Now is the time to take advantage and come to this beautiful destination before it becomes too crowded.”

Southeast Asian destinations take top ranks in Mastercard CrescentRating GMTI 2024

' src=

Southeast Asia has once again emerged as the world’s leading Muslim tourist destination in the latest edition of the Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI), with Indonesia and Malaysia tied for the top spot among 145 destinations in the 2024 study.  Meanwhile, Singapore has consistently led among Non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC 1 ) destinations for the ninth consecutive year, underscoring its unwavering dedication to cater to Muslim  travelers by widespread availability of Halal food, prayer facilities, suitable airport amenities, and  Muslim-friendly accommodation.

luxury cruises southeast asia

According to the report, the Muslim travel market is set for a significant uptick this year, with global international arrivals potentially reaching up to 168 million, exceeding pre-pandemic levels by as much  as 5 percent. This growth in volume highlights the rising prominence of the segment, driven by  demographic and economic expansion, cultural and Halal tourism development, and technological  advancements that enable more personalized travel experiences for Muslim travellers, such as apps  that locate Halal food outlets, Qibla directions, and prayer timings. The impact of artificial intelligence  is also helping further customize travel experiences to simplify travel logistics while adhering to faith  traditions.

Retaining their joint top position as the leading OIC 2 destinations for Muslim travellers for the 2 nd consecutive year, Indonesia and Malaysia also scored favourably on ease of entry and quality of tourism  infrastructure for both Muslim and non-Muslim travellers.

Thailand maintained its position in the top five non-OIC destinations, owing to efforts towards promoting Halal tourism like increasing Halal food availability, integration of Muslim-friendly amenities at tourist spots, and enhanced accommodation and dining options for Muslim travelers.

Meanwhile, the Philippines recorded an increase in its score on communications compared to 2023.  Among non-OIC destinations, the Philippines has steadily increased its appeal to Muslim tourists by  strategically developing their Halal Tourism portfolio, enhancing halal accreditation of hotels and restaurants, and conducting Halal awareness orientations. This effort builds on their achievement of winning the Emerging Muslim-friendly Destination of the Year award in last year’s Halal in Travel  Global Summit, based on GMTI 2023 results.

GMTI, now in its ninth year, analyzes data across 145 destinations using the ACES framework, built around metrics on Access, Communication, Environment, and Services. Over time, the criteria have evolved to keep pace with the changing needs of Muslim travelers. This year, new metrics on availability of facilities and services for travelers with disabilities were added to the model.

“It is encouraging to see that the travel sectors in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore not only maintained their rankings in this year’s GMTI, but also improved their individual scores. This reflects a broader trend of increased consideration for Muslim travelers, with average scores across the Index  rising by 10 percent,” said Fazal Bahardeen, Founder & CEO, CrescentRating.  Bahardeen also added: “It is also positive to see the Philippines continue to improve its score, which demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Department of Tourism to bolstering Muslim-friendly tourism and advancing the destination’s appeal. As Muslim travel continues to gain momentum, the GMTI 2024 report provides invaluable insights for stakeholders across the travel and tourism sector to leverage the growing Muslim travel market.”

Safdar Khan, Division President, Southeast Asia, Mastercard, said: “According to the latest report from the Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI), travellers from and to Southeast Asia are becoming increasingly focused on getting the best value from their trips to ensure the most unforgettable  experiences, a shift echoed in the rapidly growing global Halal tourism industry. At the same time, technology is helping this demographic to travel in ways that meet their unique needs, from AI

powered hyper-personalized experiences to Mastercard’s own enablement of easy and secure cross border payments. Together this heralds a new level of convenience for Muslim travellers and unlocks  a new era of growth and profitability for travel operators. Mastercard’s long-running collaboration with CrescentRating is both a testament to the strength of the partnership and the ongoing  importance of understanding and serving Muslim travelers.”
