Whether traveling for pleasure or commuting for work or school, staying connected is a given. And staying connected likely means not only toting a smartphone or laptop but also cords, cables, headphones, and other accessories. A tech organizer bag can help by keeping your tech secure, tidy, and easy to manage while on the go.

Our favorites include the Native Union Stow Lite Organizer ; this soft-sided organizer is small enough to fit into a backpack or tote yet features enough storage space for a variety of accessories. We also like the Topo Designs Tech Case ; it's large enough to fit a pair of headphones or a tablet and has several smaller pockets and compartments for cables, earbuds, or charge blocks. Other great brands include Bellroy, Incase, Mystery Ranch, Away, Thule, and more.

If this level of organization piques your interest, we've rounded up our favorite tech organizer bags that'll bring order to any setup, whether it's just a few cables or a complete mobile workstation.

Native Union Stow Lite Organizer

men's tech travel case

With a wide assortment of premium tech accessories that lean toward Apple products, Native Union is a brand not to be missed. The Stow Lite Organizer features a soft-quilted interior with loops and pockets to handle most essentials and is designed to hold its shape and stand upright. Like the look, but need more space? The brand's full-sized Stow Organizer should do the trick.

Bagsmart Electronic Organizer

men's tech travel case

If you're looking for compartments, Bagsmart's Electronic Organizer offers plenty and then some. Featuring seven elastic loops, a zippered pocket, and five small elastic mesh pockets, this organizer is great for people who lug around a lot of techy bits and bobs. If you want to save some cash, this bag is a worthy alternative to similar bi-fold organizers in the category.

Amazon Basics Universal Travel Case

men's tech travel case

If it's a good deal that you're after, you'll appreciate this pick from Amazon's in-house line. It has all the organizational features most people want in an electronics case: stretch-mesh pockets, small zippered compartments, plus a bright orange interior to make it easier to locate things. This case is typically priced below $15.

Eagle Creek Pack-It Reveal E-Tools Organizer Mini

men's tech travel case

When you're not hauling a ton of accessories but still need to keep a few things neatly packed, the Reveal E-Tools Organizer Mini is small enough to fit in a coat pocket. It's made with soft, recycled materials and won't add any extra weight to everything you're carrying. The Reveal comes in a larger "pro" size if you need more room.

Bellroy Tech Kit

men's tech travel case

If there's one label we can trust with our everyday carry essentials, it's Bellroy. The Australian-based brand's bags and wallets are functional, durable, and easy on the eyes, and its Tech Kit —  which is also available in a compact size — is no exception.

We appreciate this kit's soft-shell body for the added structure and protection, and the leather detailing is a nice touch. While the pouch lays flat, those looking for a stand-up design should look into the brand's Desk Caddy , which is equally generously sized.

Incase Facet Accessory Organizer

men's tech travel case

The Facet Organizer is a zippered case with a slim profile for those who want something compact. Like all Incase bags, it has a cool, minimalist design. It has a durable construction made from recycled materials. It may not look like it, but there are enough compartments for cables, adapters, batteries, or whatever you need to carry.

Away Tech Case

men's tech travel case

Are you one of the many people who travel with Away's hard-shell rolling luggage ? Designed to fit seamlessly into the brand's lineup of suitcases, the Tech Case is better suited for a weekend out-of-town than daily use. With two elastic loops and a bottom mesh compartment, it's a convenient choice for frequent flyers with less tech to carry around. If you're looking for "just a pouch," check out Away's F.A.R. pouch , a simple catch-all made from recycled ripstop nylon.

Mystery Ranch Mission Control Organizer

men's tech travel case

The large version of the Mission Control has ample room for cables, chargers, portable batteries, headphones, and more. Compartments help keep things organized, while a front pocket lets you store a phone or whatever you need quick access to. What we like is the extra padding to protect against drops. Mystery Ranch's durable bags have a terrific build quality, and they offer a lifetime warranty in case of defects. The Mission Control is also available in small and medium sizes.

Calpak Tech Organizer

men's tech travel case

A brand that's no stranger to luggage and travel organizers , LA-based Calpak designed its Tech Organizer with flexibility in mind: the bag has loops and pockets on one side, and interior and exterior mesh compartments that are accessed by a zipper. And in a category filled with muted colorways, we appreciate Calpak's fun patterns and designs, which change with the seasons.

Aer Slim Pouch

men's tech travel case

For a more rugged option, Aer's slim pouch features an exterior done up in heavy-duty Cordura ballistic nylon, a fabric originally developed for military body armor. The San Francisco brand opted for a wide-access main compartment with mesh pockets and elastic loops, while still maintaining a slim profile that'll easily fit in most bags.

Peak Design Tech Pouch

men's tech travel case

Peak Design's Tech Pouch has a slot for literally every tech accessory you might want to haul. It serves the person who wants to carry it all. The brand has thought of everything, even down to the cable pass-through that allows you to easily charge devices. The only downfall? The bag is on the bulkier side, especially when filled. But given who it's made for, that's to be expected.

Thule Subterra PowerShuttle

men's tech travel case

If you're looking for more capacity, the Subterra PowerShuttle organizer from Thule can corral a ton of tech. The Swedish outdoor brand made this organizer roomy enough to house a pair of over-ear headphones while still keeping a relatively slim profile. The bag also features a cord pass-through, which makes it easy to charge your devices on the go.

Evergoods Civic Access Pouch

men's tech travel case

Founded by two ex-designers from Patagonia and GoRuck, Evergoods crafts its gear to appeal to those who'd pay top dollar for highly functional designs and materials that last. The Civic Access Pouch is fully padded and features an angled zipper opening that allows for easy access and visibility to what's inside. There's a zippered main compartment and a convenient top internal mesh pocket with a key leash.

Topo Designs Tech Case

men's tech travel case

This outdoor-friendly case from Topo Designs is built to meet every scenario imaginable. It's a sizable padded carryall with a waterproof finish that features two main compartments. It's big enough to fit larger devices like headphones and a tablet, with enough organization options to wrangle smaller cords, cables, and smaller accessories.

Dsptch Cable Wallet

men's tech travel case

San Francisco's Dsptch is known for tough, minimalist gear for utilitarian types, and the brand's lineup of organizer bags offers a few options depending on how much gear you need to carry. We're partial to the slim Cable Wallet, which is a foldable case with just enough room to carry essentials. Those who need more space should look to the Cable Case , which features 14 elastic slots and two zippered pouches with a carrying handle.

What to look for in a tech organizer

Everyone has different storage needs, so you should take stock of your necessities and buy them accordingly. You may end up forgoing an organizer with multiple pockets, loops, and compartments for something more simple and appropriate. In the case of tech organizer bags, bigger (and typically more expensive) isn't necessarily better.

For example, as a remote worker who's consistently on the move, I value dedicated compartments and portability. I've managed to fit everything I need into the Incase Nylon Accessory Organizer , which comes with me wherever my desk might be. Beyond a laptop and phone charger, a portable hard drive, USB-C and Apple Lightning cables, wireless earbuds, and a pair of backup wired earbuds, I also pack pens, a pocket notebook, a microfiber cloth, and eye drops.

That said, it's smart to keep overall size in mind. Some soft-sided tech organizer bags can get bulky when filled. If you're looking for something that'll easily transfer from one bag to another — say, your daily tote bag to a carry-on — you'll want to take every bag and scenario into account.

The Best Tech Pouches and Organizers to EDC 2022

Delve into some of the best tech pouches and organizers to carry every day…

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who open up their bag, briefcase, or sling to find an abominable maelstrom of pens, chargers, flashlights and sundry loose items, and those who use pouches to carefully organize their lives and bags. We assume, dear readers of Carryology, that you have chosen the moral high ground and are the second kind of person.

Thus, we will not waste time convincing you that you NEED more organization in your life. Rather we will guide you in choosing the correct pouch, organizer, or Dopp kit that fulfills your wildest OCD and EDC fantasies.

But first, here are some things to consider in your search for the best tech pouches.

Peak Design Tech Pouch

When hunting down the best tech pouches for your EDC, you should always start with three questions: What are you carrying, how are you going to use it, and what’s important to you?

To answer the opening question, we recommend placing all of your EDC on a flat surface to take stock (pro tip: if you haven’t used something in a month, then it might be time for at-home storage; there’s no need to be weighed down). Once you get a fix on how much you need to carry, and what array of shapes and sizes you need to pack, you’ll be one step closer to pinpointing the size and shape of the best tech pouches for your setup.

Now, how are you going to use it… do you need it for your tech cables, medicine, or pencils? Will you need it as a quick grab at the office or something that acts more like a tray for continuous pillaging over the day – illustrators, we’re talking to you!

Does your favorite everyday bag have a cavernous wide space to store a thick pouch, or do you need a slim-figured zip-up to fit into a smaller side pocket? Or will you need MOLLE / PALS attachments on the back panel to snugly attach your pouch to your tactical pack, high up and out of crush zones?

And lastly, what’s important? Do you want added protection to fend off bumps and drops? Or waterproofing to keep the wet out? Or quick access to your essentials at all times? So, let’s dig into this stuff a little deeper…

Nite Ize RunOff Travel Pouches

Level of Organization

While many companies make some version of a simple and cheap(er) pouch to throw little knicks and knacks inside, these can quickly become unwieldy and disorganized. On the other hand, some pouches can be overly specific with their layouts, meaning if you don’t carry EXACTLY what the manufacturer intended, your loadout might not work well in the pre-measured spaces provided in these highly organized Dopps. Again, knowing what you want to carry and finding the right balance is key when determining the best tech pouches for your needs.

Most of us probably don’t need to worry if our items are protected from a 100-foot fall or can be submerged underwater for an hour, but having a bit of water resistance or padding can add peace of mind when riding your bike home in the middle of a storm or if somebody accidentally spills a Big Gulp on you in the subway. Many of the best tech pouches already offer a bit of protection just inherently by adding an extra layer of fabric, but if you want to go the extra mile, you might also have to take a bit of a weight or size penalty.

Best tech pouches: ORBITGear MOD-01 “THE CUBE”

Weight and Size

If all you want to do is organize the four ballpoint pens you bring with you to work every day, you probably don’t need an organizer that also fits a laptop sleeve. However, if you’re carrying a mobile office, or traveling to a client, you might want to have a bit more on hand. While shaving a few grams with materials like Dyneema can be a cool touch to your EDC, be prepared to pay for that weight saving with your wallet.

The Best Tech Pouches and Organizers to EDC

Versatility and Adaptability

Some of us are focused (or obsessed) enough to have a pouch for every application. While I’m a huge fan of having my “Hiking First Aid” always set aside for a quick grab and go, and my “Tech Pouch” ready to be thrown into whatever bag I decide to carry that day, it’s sometimes nice to have a vessel (or two) that can be customized to whatever I need. Today it might be “Taking the dogs for a walk in the hills” and tomorrow it might be “I’m running late so here’s a bunch of stuff I need”. Having the ability to change your loadout without having to buy a new bit of gear can be priceless.

…Although we won’t fault you for wanting to buy a new bit of gear…

Price Point

Sometimes you need to pay a premium to get what you want, but other times you can get by with a bit of a budget kit that suits your needs perfectly. The best tech pouches below range from $25 to $80 so you’re guaranteed to find something that fits your needs and your wallet.

So, keeping in mind all of the things above, we’ve hand-picked a few (or more) of the best tech pouches, travel organizers, and Dopp kits to really scratch that EDC itch.

Best in Show

EVERGOODS Civic Access Pouch 2L ($75)

Best tech pouches: EVERGOODS Civic Access Pouch 2L

The good folks at EVERGOODS always seem to knock it out of the park with their packs, and their first foray into accessories was no exception. While the design works best with one of their own home-grown packs, it seems to work in almost every bag I own. The immense amount of thought that went into the design and manufacture alone makes it worth giving it a look in person.

Peak Design Tech Pouch ($60)

Best tech pouches: Peak Design Tech Pouch

Since its release a few years ago, the Peak Design Tech Pouch has been hailed for its modularity and expandability and is certainly one of the best tech pouches around. The accordion-style opening isn’t just functional, but also beautiful in the way that only an immaculately designed piece of kit can be. Make no mistake, this is definitely a pouch that rides on the larger side, but if you “roll deep“ with your tech, this will have a place for everything, and everything in its place.

The front window is handy for quickly checking on your contents, and the RunOff can be purchased in several sizes and colors for the perfect organizational portfolio. Definitely one of the most innovative options on the scene for the best tech pouches around.

Tom Bihn Handy Little Thing ($70)

Tom Bihn Handy Little Thing

Let’s face it, if you’re a member of the Cult-of-Bihn, you probably already have one (or multiple) of these. The HLT keeps the classic “round-ish” Bihn styling with multiple internal and external attachment points for all your bits and bobs. While it’s definitely more of a “misc” pouch than a tech-oriented one, it definitely deserves a second look for anyone needing a “do it all” solution.

Incase is basically a household name when it comes to organizational accessories and laptop sleeves. Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten

Nothing is worse than fishing your charging cord out from the bottom of your backpack or suitcase only to discover a tangled mess. Plus, as time passes, tangles can lead to fraying which turns quickly into malfunction. A travel cord organizer can help eliminate this problem, and many of them are affordable with cool features so everything stays sorted.

Travel cord organizers often come with mesh, canvas, and zippered pockets, plus elastic loops and additional compartments to keep all of your cables, cords, flash drives, USB sticks, and other tech gadgets in order. Depending on what you need, there are large options that can hold numerous cords and accessories, and small picks to hold the bare essentials. We've researched the best travel cord organizers with numerous features and gathered the best ones for all your travel needs here.

Best Overall

Canboc electronic organizer case.

The pockets’ varied sizing allows you to stow many different types of things.

A few interior pockets are very small.

We love the Canboc Travel Electronic Organizer for a few reasons. Firstly, its hard-shell exterior is easy to clean and protects your cords better than a soft-sided organizer, plus there’s a waterproof layer underneath the external layer that wicks away moisture. Underneath the waterproof layer, there’s a shock-absorbing pad that helps protect your contents in case the organizer gets dropped. So overall, the construction here is great.

Inside the clamshell-style case, the bottom half comes with two velcro dividers that you can arrange in multiple ways to give you three sections shaped to your liking. This is also a great place to put items you don’t want to get scratched, as the dividers provide a barrier between them. There’s a middle divider in between the two sides that includes mesh pockets of various sizes, allowing you to stow memory cards, USB sticks, power banks, a computer mouse, earbuds, and more safely. Then the top half also has two mesh pockets that work well for charging cables and computer cords, and there’s even a small elastic loop to hold a tablet pen.

The exterior includes a hand strap for easy carrying, plus a carabiner so you can clip the organizer anywhere you’d like, or carry it more like a purse strap. The entire organizer opens wide with two zippers, allowing you to easily access everything you need within. Four colors are available.

The Details: 9.12 x 5.57 x 2.43 inches | PU leather | 12 compartments | Zipper closure

Best Budget

Travelwant cable organizer bag.

There are numerous spaces for organization and it folds out flat.

The attached carry strap is small.

You can’t beat what you get with this economical organizer bag. It’s great for charging cords, charging blocks, tablet pens, and other cords you need to stow away neatly. The wraparound zipper means that the bag opens up flat so you can organize as you wish and find cords quickly when needed. One side has five mesh sections for cords and tablet pens, and the other side has three elastic loops that can also work for cords along with a mesh, zippered section for charging blocks, a power bank, or even a laptop charger. The bag is made from waterproof fabric, so any spills just roll away. Tuck it neatly into your backpack, carry-on, purse, or carry it by the attached handle.

The Details: 9.8 x 7 x 3 inches | Oxford cloth | 9 compartments | Zipper closure

Best Splurge

Stuart and lau the tech kit.

Stuart and Lau

The kit slides neatly over your luggage handle.

It could use a few more pockets or zippered compartments.

For a sophisticated look while wheeling through the airport, the Stuart and Lau pick is a winner. The clamshell-style front pocket opens flat so you can easily access all your cords, cables, and chargers, and the back panel includes a hidden pocket along with a sleeve to attach the kit to your luggage handle. The interior is made from recycled twill, and the exterior includes Italian leather accents. The outside is also waterproof, providing added protection in case there’s rain — or your coffee takes a tumble while on the move. The interior has a bit of microsuede, too, and includes mesh pockets, a leather loop, and a divided strap to store tablet pens and such. The kit closes with a zipper, and two color options are available (although we prefer the olive color scheme).

The Details: 10.0 x 6.0 x 3.5 inches | Microsuede, twill, and leather | 7 compartments | Zipper closure

Bagsmart Electronic Organizer

The quilted, bright exterior offers a pop of color to your tech bag.

There is only one zippered interior pocket.

A bright exterior with a criss-cross, quilted pattern meets a light beige interior that makes it easy to find charging cables and tech items fast. Multiple mesh pockets store smaller items like memory cards, charging blocks, and flash drives, while loops hold cords, pens, and even a computer mouse, if needed. There’s also a mesh pocket with a zipper that’s large enough to store your phone or a charging bank. The exterior is made from water-resistant fabric that wicks away moisture, plus padding to keep your tech gear safe and secure. This case is so stylish, you’ll likely want to use it for office commuting in addition to travel.

The Details: 9.4 x 6.7 x 1.4 inches | Polyester | 13 compartments | Zipper closure

Twod Electronic Organizer

There are lots of elastic loops for cords.

The pouch isn’t very deep.

Just a bit larger than a standard smartphone, the Twod Electric Organizer is a great buy for its numerous features, all packed into a small pouch. It’s made from water-repellent nylon, which keeps unwanted water away and also protects your cords and cables from getting bent and damaged. It unzips to fold out flat, making it easy to pack before a trip. One side of the organizer has six elastic loops for cords and cables, plus a mesh pocket underneath to store your phone or a power bank. The other side has a zippered mesh pocket and another pocket underneath that works as another storage space for a power bank or battery pack. The elastic loops can secure something as small as a flash drive or a longer cord wrapped up nicely. A small loop on the exterior allows you to carry the little pouch, or grab it from your bag quickly when needed.

The Details: 8.3 x 4.3 x 2 inches | Nylon | 9 compartments | Zipper closure

Best Organizer Roll

Procase travel gear organizer.

There are ample pockets and compartments to keep things separate.

You’ll have to tighten the elastic cord to secure the case since there isn’t a zipper.

For an organizer that will unfold completely but also pack up tight for easy traveling, the ProCase Travel Gear Organizer is our favorite. Roll and secure it with the elastic hook and loop closure, and then unroll it when needed to display all your cords and gadgets. It comes with six elastic loops for cords and cables, three mesh pockets that work for smaller USBs and memory cards, two open pockets for chargers or a computer mouse, a large zippered pocket that can hold a power bank or cell phone, and two small zippered pockets to secure smaller items. The case is made from tough nylon, meaning it stands up to wear and tear and is water resistant. You can even use the elastic strap to hang the case up in your hotel room, tent, or wherever you’ll need it. Five color options are available.

The Details: 17 x 9 inches (open) and 4.5 x 9 inches (rolled) | Nylon | 14 compartments | Hook-and-loop closure

Best Water-resistant

Bevegekos tech organizer travel case.

The two separate compartments keep things in order.

The pockets aren’t deep, so bulkier items can make for a tight squeeze.

We like this small organizer from Bevegekos because two zippers provide two different compartments – each with different features. It’s a great way to keep things separated in their own designated place. On one side, there’s a large pocket big enough for a power bank or cellphone, plus another large mesh pocket. The opposite side has five smaller mesh pockets, plus another larger pocket that could hold a laptop charger or computer mouse. The exterior of the case is made from Jacquard fabric, which is water resistant to keep moisture away. There’s also an attached lanyard for carrying, or you can toss it in your tote bag and easily grab it with the lanyard. There are several shades of pink, blue, and gray (plus a black option) available.

The Details: 7.48 x 4.33 x 2.16 inches | Jacquard fabric and polyester | 8 compartments | Zipper closure

Bagsmart Cable Organizer Bag

Compartments are large and small for various items.

The bag is narrow, so bulkier items won’t fit.

For the ultimate in space saving coupled with maximum compartment space, the Universal Cable Organizer is a small but mighty case that can hold all your cords, cards, chargers, and earbuds. Two interior mesh pockets are zippered for larger items, and six mesh pouches hold smaller things like flash drives and laptop chargers. There are also seven elastic loops for cords, pens, and cables, and even three slots for SD cards. The fabric exterior is water-resistant and comes with padding to protect your items a bit, and the entire organizer fits inside a small bag or backpack. Three colors are available.

The Details: 6.3 x 9.5 x 1 inches | Nylon | 16 compartments | Zipper closure

BUBM Electronic Organizer

The amount of compartments is incredible.

The deep design takes up more room in your suitcase.

Tech-heavy travelers carrying a multitude of devices will want an organizer on the larger size, and we like this one because it’s large enough to fit a tablet, wide enough for things like bulky power banks, but still comes with smaller pockets and loops for cords, cables, and flash drives. In total, there are more than 20 compartments, pockets, and loops, making this organizer a win for when you have to carry it all. The tablet pouch is padded, offering extra protection for your device, and the exterior fabric is water-resistant. A small strap on top allows for easy carrying.

The Details: 9.3 x 6.5 x 3.5 inches | Nylon | 24 compartments | Zipper closure

Most Compact

Dagne dover tech organizer.

Dagne Dover

It’s simple but can hold all the essentials.

The pockets don’t have closures.

To keep things simple when you’re only taking a few electronics, the Arlo Neoprene Tech Organizer from Dagne Dover is a stylish, small, and smart way to store cords and a couple of larger items like earbuds and a charger. It’s made from neoprene with a recycled polyester interior, and is water resistant to keep your goods dry. One side has an elastic loop and a pouch behind the loop, while the other side has two elastic loops with a mesh pocket underneath. There’s also a mesh pocket on the back, plus a D ring to easily attach the organizer to something as desired. Its square shape is great for storing within a larger bag or suitcase, and six color options are available.

The Details: 4.5 x 2.25 x 5 inches | Neoprene and polyester | 6 compartments | Zipper closure

Best Hardside

July tech kit.

The translucent exterior allows you to somewhat see the contents within.

There aren’t a lot of pockets or dividers.

For the busy traveler who tends to just throw things into their suitcase with no order, a hard shell case that can stand up through security checks and in the bottom of plane bellies is a crucial buy. This case from July is made from crushproof polycarbonate, meaning it will hold its own while inside a tossed-around backpack or under pressure inside a suitcase. It folds out flat, and one side is fully open, so you can organize to your liking, while the other side has a floating divider with three elastic loops, plus room underneath for a power bank. Coming in four translucent color schemes, you can also personalize the Kit, too, meaning it’s a great gift for your organized — or unorganized — loved one.

The Details: Dimensions: 2.7 x 8 x 5 inches | Material: Polycarbonate | # Pockets/compartments:5 | Closure: Zipper

Best Eco-friendly

Bellroy tech kit.

The recycled materials make us feel better about the purchase.

The pockets don’t have a closure.

The sustainability-minded consumer will appreciate Bellroy’s Tech Kit, as it’s made from recycled, woven fabric that was once plastic water bottles. Lots of color options are available, too, a perk not found as often when it comes to eco-friendly purchases. The kit itself zips open flat for easy organization and has lots of places to store your cords and cables. The floating wall has seven elastic loops for cables, pens, and flash drives, and underneath the floating wall, there’s a magnetic slip pocket that’s big enough to fit a power bank or laptop charger. Two canvas pockets on the opposite side of the organizer can hold a computer mouse, rolled-up cords, or a laptop battery instead so everything stays separate and untangled.

The Details: 9 x 5 x 2.8 inches | Recycled fabric | 11 compartments | Magnetic and zipper closures

Tips for Buying a Travel Cord Organizer

Count your cords first.

Really take a look at how many charging cables and cords you have and take that into account before purchasing an organizer. You might be able to get away with something much smaller than you thought, but tech nerds might have to opt for something larger if there are numerous cords to tow.

Prioritize organizational features

Things like elastic loops, extra exterior pockets, narrow and deep compartments, and removable dividers are all organizational features that help when buying a pouch. Keeping things sorted makes it easy to quickly find what you need as well as limit tangles along the way. Always take a look at what’s included with a case before buying to make sure it fits your needs, and lay out your commonly carried cords to crosscheck.

Look for durable materials

Nylon, polyester, leather, and hard plastic are all good choices for organizers, as they tend to be water-resistant and resistant to tears and scratches.

Depending on how often you’ll need to access the organizer depends on where to stow it. If you’re working on a plane ride or will need a charge, keep it in your backpack, purse, or smaller bag, close at hand. If you don’t need it often, you can put it in an overhead carry-on, or even a checked bag, but be certain to remove any power banks if opting for the latter.

Most organizers come with attached elastic loops that store your cords neatly. You’ll just wrap up the cords in a circle or oval, and then tuck them under the loops for secure storage. There are also velcro options sold separately (in jumbo packs , quite often), or you can buy silicone and leather loops to keep cords together inside — and outside — the pouch instead.

Travel cord organizers on average are anywhere from $15 to $30, but larger ones, or more stylish options made of leather, will cost more.

Why Trust Travel + Leisure

For this story, travel writer Amanda Ogle did extensive research on numerous types of travel cord organizers based on size, compartments, durability, and organization. Amanda has been a freelance writer for 7 years, traveling the world for stories and always looking for the best ways to condense all her travel gear. She is a sucker for organizers that can tackle all of her chargers, plus have room for a power bank.

Packing for a trip requires organization. And there's no better way to keep toiletries, makeup, digital gear, jewelry, and other small travel essentials safe during transit than with the right bag. Whether you're headed on a two-week vacation or a short weekend getaway, durable travel bags, pouches, and cases will always come in handy. We've rounded up a comprehensive list of the best travel organizers for every type of traveler, whether you need a sturdy cosmetic case for makeup products or a smart tech kit for cords and chargers. Below, our tried-and-true travel organizers, from waterproof pouches to essential packing cubes.

Dopp kits for women

Dopp kits for men, makeup bags, packing cubes, jewelry cases, hanging toiletry bags, water-resistant pouches.

Every traveler needs a go-to Dopp kit that will keep small toiletries like contact solution, moisturizer, and sunscreen organized in one place. These roomy and reliable bags also ensure your clothes and other personal items will be protected against any accidental leaks while traveling. The best Dopp kits for women offer enough space for your essentials while still being compact enough to fit in an already-stuffed carry-on or weekender .

There are plenty of great Dopp kits for men on the market—Dagne Dover, Herschel, Rains, and Bagsmart make some of our favorite travel-friendly (and budget-friendly) bags. These options make skincare and grooming products easy to find and easy to pack in your suitcase. No matter where you're headed on your next getaway, a trusty Dopp kit is essential. (Any of these sleek bags would also make a great gift for the travel-loving man in your life, too.)

We've all been there: You're sitting in a small, cramped seat in economy hopelessly searching for your iPhone charger in your under-seat bag. The solution to never-ending bag searching and tangled cords: A smart tech organizer that keeps all of your digital gear neat and tidy. These organizers are a true game changer when it comes packing cords, portable chargers, AirPods, and any other tech essentials you're toting around.

I've ruined a few tote bags by throwing a lipstick or loose powder inside and hoping for the best. You can't always be gentle with your personal item or carry-on while in transit, so a durable cosmetic bag helps protect your makeup products and everything around it. If you want to make getting ready in a hotel bathroom even speedier, opt for a clear cosmetic case or the Lay-n-Go drawstring bag that makes finding all of your products easier than ever.

If you're not already using packing cubes, let this be your sign to start. Our editors swear by packing cubes to keep clothes organized and compressed—meaning you can fit a whole lot more in your suitcase with these. Packing cubes also help you separate clean clothes from dirty ones and help protect special items like dresses and suits from any spilled liquids in your carry-on. Paravel and Calpak make some of our favorite packing cubes, but we also love the more budget-friendly options you can find on Amazon from Bagail and Alameda.

The last thing you need upon arriving to your destination is to find all of your necklaces and bracelets tangled. Or worse, discover that you lost a special (or expensive) piece of jewelry while in transit. A sturdy jewelry case ensures your favorite pieces will be safe and protected from being squashed or broken. And if you're in need of a thoughtful gift , a well-made and sleek jewelry case will be much appreciated.

Mark & Graham Small Cravel Jewelry Case

Toiletries can quickly create a cluttered bathroom counter. The next time you stay at a hotel or Airbnb, consider placing a hanging toiletry bag on the back of the bathroom door. It will help you see all of your products at a glance and limits the need to unpack and repack at the end of your trip. Use these to store anything from skincare and beauty products to jewelry and hair tools .

Sometimes, you need a water-resistant pouch or an extra bag, just in case . Options like the Aloha Collection pouches and Baggu set can hold wet bathing suits, dirty clothes, or sand-filled beach items, making it safe to toss them back in your tote or backpack . These types of bags can also keep your phone and other electronics safe if you're lounging by the pool.

For me, my primary use case is photography and working remotely. I’ll often need to carry memory cards, small hard drives, charging cables, power adapters and more. And when I travel, I need a place to keep all of these things.

Peak Design Tech Pouch

The Peak Design Tech Pouch is one of my favorite travel assets. With this tech pouch, there are tons of sleeves and compartments that you can use to configure and organize all of your tech and cables.

Peak Design Tech Pouch open and empty

I have a few lightning cables for my phone, my mouse and keyboard. I’ll bundle them together and stuff them to one side of the pouch.

I’ll keep some solid-state hard drives in another compartment. I have a case of camera memory cards that I keep in the tech pouch. And I’ll even put my mouse in the tech pouch! Everything goes in the tech pouch.

Aside from keeping everything together in one place, this works great for your travel days. If your phone is low on battery, you know where your charging cables are without having to dig through your bag. I pack the tech pouch with the carry-on, so everything is really easily accessible.

If you’re doing any type of remote work on your trip, you can bring the tech pouch with you to make sure you don’t forget any important cables or dongles.

men's tech travel case

The Peak Design Tech Pouch is a highly-organized, efficient, and compact storage pouch designed for carrying your tech accessories. It's an excellent accessory for travelers, photographers, or anyone who carries a lot of small tech gear and wants to keep everything organized.

Peak Design Field Pouch

The Field Pouch from Peak Design works as effectively as the tech pouch, but is a bit smaller. It features a roll-top design and is a bit more versatile. You can slide this onto your belt or use it as a small shoulder bag.

I have been using my field pouch since 2017, and it’s held up great. I barely notice any major wear and tear.

Peak Design Field Pouch taken from above

The actual pouch is durable and weatherproof. The quality is great, and you can use this product in a lot of different applications during travel.

Peak Design Field Pouch open with the velcro showing

Inside, you can fit some of your smaller items, like pens, keys, small cameras or really any small valuable or important item.

I like using the field pouch for photography to keep my cleaning cloths and small parts, like tools, microphones and tripod plates organized.

Maximize your storage space with the Peak Design Field Pouch, a versatile solution for all your on-the-go needs.

Aer Slim Pouch

The Aer Slim Pouch has a minimalist footprint, but it doesn’t stop its total practicality. Inside, it offers plenty of storage for your most common tech items.

men's tech travel case

You’ll have no problem putting away headphones, a small notebook, some pens and a small mouse. All together, it can hold 1.5L.

men's tech travel case

I figured out on a trip that it fits a MacBook Air charger and a MacBook Pro charger perfectly.

men's tech travel case

You have access to a high quality pouch because it’s made from 1680D Cordura ballistic nylon and has YKK zippers. This basically means it will last you a long time, even if you’re a little rough with it.

men's tech travel case

Organize your essentials in style with the Aer Slim Pouch, a minimalist's dream companion.

Aer Split Kit

The Aer Split Kit has a really minimalist footprint, especially when compared to the Aer Slim Pouch.

men's tech travel case

It can only hold about 0.4L, so it’s going to be the smallest tech bag on this list. Don’t let the size stop you, though. It’s expandable when you zipper the bottom and makes a nice sized compartment for your smaller items, like a mouse, small notebook or your charging cables.

men's tech travel case

You still have the side (or top?) compartment that’s always going to be great for pens or something low profile.

Keep your things neat with the Aer Split Kit, a must-have for any traveler

And if you’re looking for something a little smaller, check out the Aer Split Kit .

Moment MTW Tech Organizer

The Moment Tech Organizer Mini is what I think about when I want to organize my cables and chargers. It has everything you need and is affordable.

It’s designed to contain your slimmer and low profile items, as the pouch itself isn’t very deep, like some of the other options. That shouldn’t turn you away, because it makes a perfect solution to organize your charging station. And it’s designed to fit inside of the MTW Tech Organizer as well.

After you’ve organized your low profile items, you’re ready to check out the Moment MTW Tech Organizer . The (non mini) MTW Tech Organizer has a lot of great features, like zipper compartments inside and stretch pockets. It sits upright, so it’s great to have on your desk and easily pick out some of your essential items.

Bellroy Tech Kit

Bellroy makes quality products and that’s why the Tech Kit originally caught my eye.

men's tech travel case

The size is optimized to take with you on any type of trip. It can be going to work every day or taking a few cords and cables with you on a longer trip. It should accommodate lots of options for you.

What’s nice is that when you open it, the Tech Kit lays flat. This is perfect to allow you to quickly grab your most used items and not have them get lost in some stash pocket along the way.

men's tech travel case

You won’t have to worry about any bad quality. The zippers and material are all high quality.

The Bellroy travel backpack that I have balances being lightweight and high quality at the same time.

Keep your tech essentials neatly organized and within reach with the Bellroy Tech Kit, your compact solution for tech gadget storage.

And you may also want to check out the Desk Caddy for something a little smaller. It’s available on Amazon or directly on Bellroy .

Troubadour Goods Rig Case 2.0

This tech pouch comes from Troubadour , one of Becca’s favorite bag and accessory brands (you can check out her Momentum Backpack review , Ki Backpack review and Bivy Tote Backpack review ). Troubadour has continually wow-ed us with exceptional quality, chic and elevated designs and thoughtful products for the modern traveler.

men's tech travel case

The Rig Case , of course, is a fantastic addition to the Troubadour lineup. It has the same sleek design as the backpacks, handbags, totes and weekenders that we admire from Troubadour. It’s made of waterproof recycled polyester and vegan leather, qualifying as a sustainably-made product from this B-corp-certified brand.

The Rig Case is innovative because it stands upright on its own and has crease-free fabric (it’ll hold its shape even if it’s compressed in your suitcase). It has a pull-zip closure with a handle, so you could carry it from a hot desk in a coworking space to a meeting room for a presentation, if you’re traveling for work.

men's tech travel case

As for the interior of this 4-liter tech bag , it has cool hidden magnets for secure closing, a double-zipper opening, an internal divider for staying organized and strong zipper pulls. There’s even a zippered exterior pocket for an AirTag , one of our favorite travel accessories. How’s that for a great tech bag?

A Troubadour original, this tech bag stands up on its own, has an AirTag pocket, sustainable materials and and comfy carrying handle.

Travelon Tech Accessory Bags

If you’re looking for something affordable and no frills, check out the Travelon Tech Accessory Organizer . It’s going to be for any soft and flexible items. That’s because the flagship feature is the ability to roll up. Rolling will help save space.

Travelon Tech Accessory Organizer

The Travelon Tech Accessory Organizer ensures your gadgets and accessories are neatly sorted and easily accessible while on the move.

Travelon World Travel Essentials Tech Organizer

The Travelon World Travel Essentials Tech Organizer ensures your tech gear is neatly organized and ready for your global adventures.

EVERGOODS CIVIC Access Pouch

I was really impressed by the CIVIC Access Pouch . It is one of the more expensive items on this list. It has a few features that contribute to these prices, so let’s check them out.

men's tech travel case

First, it stands up on its own when you unzip the main compartment. This is fairly unique and allows quick access to items without the hassle. It has a really neet look on the exterior.

It has a top zipper pocket, which is perfect for your stray pens, keys or any other loose items. The materials are top-notch, with weather resistant materials and quality zippers. There’s a handy red key clip that comes out of the top zipper pocket, and the zipper sleeve pocket in the inside is good for loose items that lay flat.

The shape of the entire interior is nice because I can fit something like my Macbook Pro charger in there. The zipper divider is also movable, so you can change the layout based on what you pack inside. Finally, the exterior is padded, which is not a feature you see in most tech pouches.

men's tech travel case

As a bonus, you can customize the patches and zipper pulls , so this makes a great gift for travelers!

Optimize your on-the-go storage with the EVERGOODS CIVIC Access Pouch, perfect for keeping your essentials within reach.

Tom Bihn Ghost Whale Organizer Pouches

The Ghost Whale Organizer Pouches are a choose-your-own-size-adventure because they offer 4 different sizes for different applications.

All of the organizers have curved L-shaped openings which allow you to access the contents quick and effortlessly. The materials are what make all Tom Bihn products stand out, and you can expect the same from the Ghost Whale Organizers. They are made with high quality nylon and #3 YKK coil zipper.

You can pick from the mini size, which is great to wrangle a pair of AirPods, some business cards, coins and so on.

The mini is your personal companion and can fit a mini notebook and pen.

The small is what you’re going to expect for a typical tech bag. You’ll have the best luck putting your cables, cords and chargers in here. Additionally, you can fit travel utensils or pens.

The A5 will fit a standard A5-sized notebook and pens.

Check it out

If you like being organized, any of these size options have utility in helping you stash away your goods!

Keep small items tidy with the Tom Bihn Ghost Whale Organizer Pouches, offering smart storage solutions for your essentials.

And if you’re looking for more of a traditional tech pouch from Tom Bihn, check out the Snake Charmer .

Topo Designs Tech Case

I’m a long time fan of the bags from Topo Designs. I like the utility of their Tech Case a lot.

I think the design is smart, having mindful compartments and places to put whatever you need to commute or travel with regularly.

Unlike other tech bags, it’s big enough to stash away some of your larger over the ear headphones or mid-sized tech items. It has a lot of padding, so you won’t have to worry about anything getting damaged in transit.

And there’s plenty of internal features, like a tablet sleeve, pen loop and exterior pocket to make sure you stay really organized.

Safeguard your tech essentials with the Topo Designs Tech Case, designed for the modern traveler.

The accessory bags are also great.

Away Tech Case

By now, you probably know about the company Away. They made a name for themselves breaking into the luggage game with their rolling suitcases .

We’re long time fans of their luggage and backpacks . They even have a packing cube or two ( see the round-up ) that I’ve had my eyes on as well!

The tech case is going to be more like a cooler for your tech. It’s taller and boxier than most of the options on this list. It’s good to through something like a small camera or your bulkier charging bricks inside.

It has a few compartments and straps to keep your primary headphones and charging cable at the ready.

Keep your tech essentials organized with the Away Tech Case, designed for the modern traveler.

Harber London Tech Dopp Kit

The Harber London Tech Dopp Kit is highly recommended and is a beautifully crafted accessory for upscale travelers. Harber London is a premium goods brand from London making functional products with simple designs. Their pieces are crafted in Spain with a clear mission and honest vision. It has a total 1.5L capacity and is made from premium full-gain leather and 100% cotton twill. Overall, it’s a timeless product that feels luxurious and well worth it.

This well-crafted tech bag is made in Spain from signature premium full-grain leather and cotton twill.

WANDRD Tech Bag

The WANDRD Tech Bag is a thoughtful design and integrates well with other Wandrd bags, like the PRVKE and DUO .

And, you can use it as a sling when connecting an optional carry strap . You can likely use an existing strap. Pay close attention to the webbing loops.

There are a few sizes which are all optimized for slightly different types of items and functions. The WANDRD Tech Bag variants range from 1L to 3.5L.

What’s really unique is that you can attach them all together and make some type of mega tech bag.

Carry your gadgets effortlessly with the WANDRD Tech Bag, a perfect blend of organization and easy access.

Vaultz Mesh Zipper Pouch Set

As another affordable low frills option, you can check out these mesh zipper pouches on Amazon.

They can store your cables, pens, low profile power bricks and anything else you want to stash away. They’re good for travel because you can designate a bag for each person in your family.

You have a lot of options with a simple bag like this.

The Vaultz Mesh Zipper Pouch Set is your ideal solution for organizing small items, with clear mesh for easy identification.

Brevite Cable Kit

The Brevite Cable Kit offers you a stylish option to store some of your smaller items, like cables, a phone, small hard drive, a mouse, AirPods and so on.

In my opinion, you choose Brevite because of the style and color options available. The cable kit has a slightly protective outer shell, so things won’t get as crushed in a pouch without any type of padding.

And for something a little smaller, you can check out the pouch that they offer.

Lastly, if you’re a photographer, the photo kit is especially useful! It has room for batteries and memory cards. It fits into other bags while protecting some of your smaller and easy to lose items.

Keep your tech accessories secure and untangled with the Brevite Cable Kit, a must-have for every digital nomad.

Native Union Stow Organizer

The Native Union Stow Organizer is a high quality and coated canvas tech bag. The compartments are fairly large and can fit plenty of low profile charging bricks, an Apple Pencil and whatever else you can store in the elastic loops.

The zippers are waterproof. That plus the coated canvas finish make this one of the more water-resistant bags on the market. If you think you’re going to be in any wet environments, this might be a good option for you.

Keep your tech essentials neat and minimalist with the Native Union Stow Organizer, crafted with durable materials and a sleek design.

IKEA Accessory Bag

If you have an IKEA near you and are craving a hotdog or meatballs, check out what your local IKEA has in the accessory bag department.

You’ll typically find bulk-quality (I like IKEA items) products that are highly affordable.

Organize your essentials with the IKEA Accessory Bag, perfect for keeping your belongings in order.

I’ve been traveling for years now, and tech bags became a part of my packing around 2017. Given the fact that I usually travel with a photography backpack for travel photos and I’m usually working remotely on the go , I have a lot of tech with me.

Tech bags have helped to keep my wires organized, as well as my memory cards, lens caps and things for working like dongles, plugs and bricks. I always make space for one of my tech pouches when I’m packing up my Peak Design travel bag .

Regarding the products themselves in this list, I have tested out as many as I could. I recommend looking at the detailed product shots I’ve taken above, to see the details in some of these bags like the ones from Bellroy and Aer, to name a few.

My aim is to help you narrow down the bunch so you can optimize which features will be most important for your travels. I hope this list has helped you find your next tech pouch, as there are a lot of awesome ones on the market and this list is just scratching the surface.

The Best Men’s Running Shorts, According to Runners

men's tech travel case

In this article

  • Brief-lined shorts
  • 2-in-1 shorts

Half tights

The Strategist happens to be full of runners, so this week, we hit the ground running (literally), testing tons of running gear and interviewing experts to give every kind of runner all the intel they might need. Welcome to  Running Week .

Running shorts have the power to make a run fantastic or ruin it. In my 15 years of running, I’ve tested shorts that feel like a second skin, while others have left me chafed, wedgied, and uncomfortable. Much like a good pair of gym shorts , the ideal pair of men’s running shorts will offer support, but not feel too restrictive; its material should be thin and breathable, but able to withstand everything from the occasional jog to a season of marathon training; and lastly, it should look good.

There are generally three types of running shorts: the most common have a classic brief liner — a good choice if you want something non-restrictive; boxer-brief lined shorts have a longer liner that hugs the thighs; and half-tights can come in lined or unlined options. For any type, one of the most important features for runners is storage: you need pockets to hold your gels, keys, phone, and other items that you take with you. Purely because of their design, many brief-liner running shorts simply don’t have the pockets available to carry a lot of gear. Two-in-one shorts, with their boxer-brief style liners, have more pocket options, but sometimes the liner on these shorts is loose and can feel more like a semi-tight pair of underwear. That’s where half tights come in — they offer a more compressive feeling that eliminates any jostling, and are a great option if you need upwards of four pockets to carry multiple gels for long races like marathons.

After testing close to two dozen different pairs, I’ve landed on some favorites that I would heartily recommend to runners of all levels. Below, you’ll find my picks, as well as top selections from running experts who have logged countless miles in multiple pairs themselves.

Brief-lined running shorts

Tracksmith Session Shorts

If you’re looking for a daily workhorse of a short, I’d recommend the Session. I’ve worn both the five- and seven-inch versions of the Session since 2019 for all types of runs, from daily training sessions to track workouts and long runs, and they have shown no signs of wear. Much like the rest of the brand’s apparel, the Session has a collegiate aesthetic with a uniform-like cut, but it has a buttery-soft texture that makes it great for lounging around in, too. It’s also a favorite of Citius Mag founder Chris Chavez .

Nike Flex Stride 5

I’ve been running in my pair of five-inch Nike shorts since 2013, and that longevity is one of the reasons why they’re one of my most frequently recommended shorts . They’re not as soft as the Tracksmith shorts, but Nike’s technical fabric is lighter and slightly more breathable, which makes these great for hot days. Since the shorts have a brief liner, their pocket options are limited to a single zip pocket on the back. But that simplicity is why Danny Perez , a New York City–based editor and marathoner, prefers these shorts for fast workouts. “I use them for shorter distances or speed stuff when I run with my phone in-hand to check pace or times,” he says.

Rabbit Men's Core Sunset Splitz 2

Matt Klein, DPT, professor of physical therapy at West Coast University Center for Graduate Studies, and founder of the blog Doctors of Running , prefers a shorter inseam, reminiscent of racing shorts. “I go through a ton of shorts,” Klein says. “ I am highly biased toward short split shorts.” One of his favorites right now is the Core Sunset Splitz two-inch shorts. “For those of us who wear race day-type shorts every day, this has been a great option,” he says. “The two internal key pockets are also important, as storage is a must!”

Two-in-one running shorts

Bandit Running Litewave 5

As I wrote in my roundup of the best gym shorts , these five-inch inseam shorts are my new favorites after testing them for two seasons of marathon training. The standout feature is the fabric, which is surprisingly breathable for how smooth and silky it feels (typical tech fabrics with this texture aren’t normally as airy). The Litewave’s boxer-brief-style liner doesn’t bunch up, and it has a zippered back pocket, plus a hidden phone pocket on the thigh. The Litewave’s liner fits me a bit looser than a pair of half-tights would, so keep that in mind if you like a more compressed feel — or want a more secure pocket for your phone (my phone jostles around in the thigh pocket). Mike Ko, a running shoe reviewer known online as Kofuzi , is a fan of the Litewave. “It’s got a super comfy liner that is stretchy yet somehow able to still hold a phone. The outer shell is light and flowy and feels great for fast runs and easy summer days alike,” he says.

Ciele Athletics Men’s DLY Short - Long Brief

These five-inch-inseam shorts from Ciele have been in my regular rotation of running shorts for the past eight months. Their longer, stretchy polyester liner feels soft and breathable, especially on sweaty runs. (I find the liner more comfortable than some of my boxer briefs, which is why I wear these when lounging around at home, too.) These shorts have a zippered back pocket plus a hidden phone pocket on the thigh.

Bandit Vento 4” 2-In-1 Shorts

Similar to the Litewave shorts above, these four-inch inseam shorts from Bandit combine a breathable outer fabric with a comfortable boxer-brief liner. Perez prefers these four-inch shorts for the majority of his running because of the Vento’s storage options (two hand pockets, two thigh pockets, and a back zippered pocket). “The phone pockets on the liner are great,” he says.

Janji Men’s 8” Trail Half Tights

These half tights from Janji are the best I’ve tried because of their lightweight feel and smart storage options. I’ve run half-marathons and 10Ks in them, and have used them for daily training in the winter and summer. They have two deep thigh pockets that work well for phones or bigger gels, and two other thigh pockets on top of them for smaller items like additional nutrition. Perez says these tights turned him into a half-tight evangelist, and noted that he’s used them for long runs and his last two marathons. [ Note: They’re a runner favorite and frequently sell out. Keep an eye out for restocks, but also check retailers like REI and Fleet Feet . ]

Rabbit Speedsters Half Tights - Men

I’ve been on a yearlong hunt for a pair of half-tights that don’t chafe. (With all that compression, there’s bound to be rubbing down below, especially over the length of a run). While I haven’t found the perfect pair — I’m not sure one exists — these unlined half-tights from Rabbit come very close. Their polyester-spandex feels soft on the skin in a way that doesn’t feel as tech-y as other sport fabrics, and their fit feels secure throughout the whole thigh. Mike Ko agrees: “It fits great, with just the right amount of compression. And it’s got enough pockets to carry all your gels for the marathon.” It has two thigh pockets and a back zippered pocket that’s actually big enough to fit a phone.

Tracksmith Men’s Allston Half Tights (Lined)

I run hot. In colder months, I prefer running in shorts or half tights, but still want them in a more substantial fabric while training so I don’t freeze, especially while I’m taking rest breaks in between laps on a track workout. The Allston is the pair I reach for because it has a thick, nylon-elastane fabric and a compressive fit. They have a brief liner (and are available unlined as well), which offers another level of support to keep everything in place. They also have grippy gel-like bands around the thighs that keep them from riding up, which is why I prefer them for fast track workouts and speed work, where there’s a lot of movement, and where I don’t want to worry about my shorts getting in the way of my stride. Much like the Trackmith’s Session shorts, I’ve found the Allston half tights to be supremely durable — the most durable out of the half tights in my rotation.

Why Meta's Ray-Ban Smart Glasses are my favorite tech purchase this year

fullsizerender

During CES 2024, I went to Sunglasses Hut to try on a pair of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses to feed my curious mind. I didn't expect to purchase a pair, but I did, and five months later, these glasses are my favorite purchase of 2024 so far. The best part is that the device has only improved with time.

Also:  Google co-founder on the ideal form factor for AI hardware (and his Google Glass regrets)

I've tried smart glasses in the past, but they have all been bulky and uncomfortable to wear for more than five minutes. The glasses always feel like I'm wearing a gadget on my face. The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are different, though -- these are sunglasses first and smart glasses second. The tech takes a backseat, not only in the design of the glasses but also in the design of the charging case, which looks like a regular sunglasses case.

When you look at Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, they look and feel like sunglasses instead of a gadget. That subtlety is a standout feature for me. I bought the Headliner variant of the glasses for $329, which suits my style, and I haven't carried my sunglasses since. You can get the Ray-Bans with transmission lenses for indoor wear, but that option is only available in Wayfarer style, which starts at $299.

1. Brilliant design and even better functionality

I couldn't have been happier that I bought these Ray-Bans before traveling to Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles for two specific reasons: video and sound.

Recording your experiences on theme park rides is difficult, especially rollercoasters. I got great footage while using the Ray-Bans to record the outdoor Harry Potter ride. Outdoor shots have excellent stabilization for such a small form factor, so my walking shots around the theme park looked amazing, too.

Also: How these $400 XR glasses cured my Apple Vision Pro FOMO

The footage might not be as good as from a GoPro device , but I got good point-of-view shots without attaching another camera to my body or cap. I didn't count my smart glasses as an "extra device" because I would have been wearing sunglasses outdoors anyway. After all, I wore my "normal" sunglasses at Universal Studios Singapore last year.

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses samples (left to right): outdoors in daylight, evening, and indoors

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses sample shots (left to right): inside a train in low light, a selfie in the morning, and a shot in bright daylight

I was also impressed by the quality of the lowlight video footage. I recorded the Sorting Hat in Hogwarts, and the footage looked like something taken on a $400 smartphone.

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses also double as earbuds. These aren't in-ear buds, so sound leaks will happen, but that's not a problem if there's already plenty of ambient noise around you. In noisy areas, I had to turn the volume to 100%, and still needed more. 90% of the time, however, I didn't feel that I needed louder volume.

The sound quality on the Ray-Bans isn't what you'd get in expensive standalone earbuds , but it still takes your theme park experience to the next level because the music feels like ambient sound that's part of the environment. You can trigger Spotify or Apple Music by tapping and holding the touchpad on the right arm of the glasses.

Also: Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses just got another useful feature for free (and a new style)

With standalone earbuds, you also get mics -- and these Ray-Bans are no different. They house multiple microphones, and the quality is surprisingly good. I've received many calls on these smart glasses and callers said they didn't notice much difference in sound quality from my usual earbuds ( the OnePlus Buds 3 ).

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses last for about two hours when used heavily. My usage included continuous music, a couple of calls, and a lot of camera footage. I've also worn the glasses continuously for five hours with 10% battery, as I wasn't listening to much music and only using the camera moderately. The official figure from Meta quotes four hours of battery life, which includes "capturing and syncing 100 videos or up to 500 photos." I'm glad the Ray-Bans still work as sunglasses with zero charge.

Another important factor to consider when buying companion devices, such as a smartwatch or a smart ring for your phone, is how they charge, because you'll be charging them often. It's a hassle when these devices require proprietary charging. Thankfully, that's not an issue on the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses because the charging case requires the same wire as your phone -- a Type-C cable.

As for privacy, these glasses include a white LED light on the opposite side of the camera, which triggers when you're recording a video or taking a photo. In public, it doesn't attract attention, but if you're recording someone directly, they'll be aware.

2. This is the perfect AI form factor

Unlike recently launched AI-enabled gadgets, including Rabbit's R1 and Humane's Ai Pin , the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses aren't AI-first. These glasses have stayed with me because, instead of trying to replace my phone, they are a great companion device.

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses also now include the Meta AI assistant , which was rolled out last month. I haven't tried the assistant on my device yet, but I've asked the glasses to place calls and music with the "Hey Meta" trigger, which works flawlessly.

Also: Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses can identify landmarks now and tell you about them

I think these Ray-Bans are the perfect form factor for an AI device. The speakers are near your ears, and that positioning creates more intimate feedback than announcing something on a speaker attached to your body or through a device held in your palm.

There is room for improvement

I haven't been irritated by a bug in the glasses, but I have been annoyed when the camera records in a 3:4 aspect ratio instead of 9:16. This switch wouldn't have been a problem if there was a way to change the ratio in the settings, but there's no way to set the aspect ratio from the Meta View app. The glasses are meant to record at 9:16, so it isn't clear why the output on the app is 3:4.

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses don't record actual point-of-view video from the line of your eyes but from a slightly right-angled view. For those of you who are used to mounting an Insta360 Go 3 or a GoPro on your head, and expect these smart glasses to capture a similar angle, you'll be surprised. I thought I'd get used to the right-angled view, but my footage often has a lot of space to my left side.

Also: Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses get hands-free Apple Music integration and more

While the glasses recharge quickly, I'd like better battery life on Meta's next-generation Ray-Bans. I use my glasses for playing music on my commute. This usage drains half the battery by the time I reach the event where I want to record a video. Also, if you're getting these glasses with transition lenses to wear for most of the day, you won't be able to.

Despite these flaws, I use my Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses daily and consider them one of my best investments in a while.
