My wife and I just spent the weekend going here. We did both the day and the night tour on Saturday and did the private painting with the chimps on Sunday. Words cannot express how much we not only enjoyed the whole experience, but the staff/family there is absolutely amazing as well. The amount of care they put into the animals is incredible. If you can; I'd recommend doing both of the day and the night tours. You get a different experience with each one on top of more time with these wonderful animals.

If I could give this review more than five stars I would. Myrtle Beach Safari was the experience of a lifetime, not to be missed. This may be one of the only places available to have an immersive experience with wildlife. Doc Antle and his entire staff were amazing. The animal trainers and caregivers have a unique bond and love with their animals, which is evident by observing their interactions together. The trainers are so knowledgeable about each animal and provided a great educational opportunity to learn about all the different wildlife you interact with on the tour. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, and the facility is immaculate. This is truly a dedicated family who devote their entire lives to the well-being of wildlife. I did both the day and night safari on my visit and both were spectacular. Please do yourself a favor and ignore the negative reviews, as I would not like you to miss an amazing opportunity to visit Myrtle Beach Safari based on the nonsense that is written. I would venture to guess, most of these people that wrote them haven't even visited the facility, because what they are saying is clearly untrue. People are writing reviews based on Netflix. Remember Netflix has to increase views and subscriptions and normal doesn't do that - it has to be jazzed up Hollywood style, that's what sells. This is not a cult or a harem with half -dressed underage girls running around. This is a family, who dedicated their life 24/7 in caring for these amazing animals. There were no underaged staff members at the facility except for Doc's grandchildren. Additionally, there is no animal abuse that you will also read about. These animals all have lush shiny coats, well-nourished with clear eyes which are all signs of a healthy animal. Additionally, if they were abused, they would not have the love or bond with their caregivers which is clearly obvious. They are also not being exploited for a photo op. Yes, you will receive photos with the animals you meet, which is a great memory of your encounter, and of course the wildlife has to be placed in cages or secure enclosures at times, you cannot have grown tigers, 300 pound orangutans, and fully grown chimpanzees roaming free unsupervised with smaller animals and humans, this would be dangerous. Visit for yourself and I am sure you will agree it is an amazing place.

This place is an absolute SCAM. My mother in law bought her brother a gift certificate for this place in 2019. We all know COVID hit the following year. Shortly after, my mother in law passed away from endometrial cancer. When her brother recently went to use the certificate, he was told he could not because it had expired. Upon calling to complain, he was told that an email had been sent to my mother in law informing her of extending the expiration date of the gift certificate. When he explained she had already passed away from cancer by the time that email was sent the reply was simply, "there is nothing we can do." First..... to put an expiration date on a gift certificate is just bad business. This isn't a $20 dollar experience. This isn't a trip to the movies ...... this is HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. The gift certificates should NEVER EXPIRE. Second..... given the extenuating circumstances of COVID and the death of my mother in law and the obvious inability to check her email since she was gone..... the gift certificate should've absolutely been honored. END OF STORY. Do yourself a favor.... There is plenty of things to do and see in Myrtle Beach. Don't waste your time and money on this place. They obviously don't give a crap about their customers. Their ethics alone should be investigated by the Better Business Bureau.

If you're considering going to Myrtle Beach Safari. Do it!!!! I highly recommend. I fulfilled one of my biggest dreams, to hold a monkey and chimpanzee. The whole experience is incredible. You learn so much. You get to touch almost everything. I loved all of the people working there. You can see how much they love the animals.. You get to take your time with the animals. Today was seriously one of the best days of my life!. Everyone needs to experience this once in their life. Everything that's included in the Safari is amazing.. they took 300 of the most beautiful pictures and that are included in the price. Well worth it.. i can not tell you enough how much I loved this!

This was an absolutely incredible experience and worth every penny. We did the daytime safari and were there from 9-130, the first hour was a little bit of sitting around and getting to know the place, but then it is constant action at a reasonable pace. They fed us a few times and kept us entertained. The Ligers and Lynx and Wolves and Monkeys and elephant were incredible and the staff was very knowledgeable and caring. If you are in the area, book your safari! It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and I will recommend it to everyone!

Photo of Marisa K.

This was our first time and it was amazing! The staff was very friendly and always gave clear instructions. They give you drinks and snacks throughout the tour, then do pizza and chips and drinks towards the end. We did the daytime safari from 9am-1:30pm. It is expensive but you get a lot of interactions with the animals and lots to see. It down poured for about 15 minutes while we were there, meeting and learning about Bubbles the elephant. They give you umbrellas if you choose to stay out from the covering, but there is a covered area if you choose not to get rained on at all. This is definitely something that needs to be added to your bucket list!

Chimpanzee

Absolutely amazing time here! We did the night tour, and after a slow start getting everyone checked it, the tour was fantastic. You can tell the animals are truly loved here and you get to interact with so many. We can't wait to come back and do the day tour!

My family loved there entire day at the Safari and then the highlight was hanging with Bubbles and his beautiful family at there home and taking a dip in the intercostal's waterway, off the hook Awesome memories made that will never be forgotten

I waited for over a year to visit here. It did nit disappoint! The day Safari was amazing. The brought out tons of animals and gave you ample time with them. They also gave you snacks through. It was about 3 hours of pure pleasure and excitement. I have been waiting to see Angada for over a year and he was so cool and fun!! Thank you Moksha for sharing him!! Speaking of Moksha, she was a delight! Super friendly and always smiling! The night tour was fun. There was a campfire with the 2 older chimps but you didn't get to interact with. If you go to visit, which I highly recommend, plan for the day tour. You can also get a photo package which gives you a ton of great photos!!

Photo of Dawn G.

Amazing! I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it may be a group thing where there was no real interaction with the animals, but I was definitely wrong. I was really pleased with the amount of interaction with the animals. I won't give a play-by-play of the experience because you need to go experience it for yourself, but I will say you will not be disappointed. Yes the ticket price seems high but I feel like I really got an opportunity to do something I would never be able to do on a multi-thousand safari. This will definitely be an annual birthday tradition. There are snacks and lunch throughout. The grounds are amazing. Don't be thrown off by the dung smell when you arrive...it's just bubbles fertilizing the fields. Only downside: There may be a couple parts of the safari that would be hard for someone to completely participate in if you have trouble sitting on the ground and there are a small flight of stairs to climb (less than 10 steps). Not sure if there was a ramp. The staff is very kind and a lot of fun. They take a ton of pictures of you and those are included in the ticket price - one note is the photos are of your group so if you also want individual pics there is an additional fee. We are doing the night safari in October 2023! Can't wait!

Things to do in Myrtle beach for families.

(This article may or may not contain affiliate links. What does that mean?)

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a great time for everyone, with activities ranging from fishing off the pier, swimming, and building sandcastles to theme parks, cruises, and dinner theater. Let’s dive into the top things to do in Myrtle Beach for families so you can make the most of a family vacation!

How Long Is Myrtle Beach?

Myrtle Beach can be confusing for people visiting for the first time. Myrtle Beach is located along what is known as the Grand Strand. Think of the Grand Strand as a 60-mile string of pearls sitting along a crescent coastline running between Southport, North Carolina and Pawley Island, South Carolina. These pearls are beaches, and the Myrtle Beach area runs along this string, stretching along the warm Atlantic Ocean.

Grand Strand Map for Top Things To Do In Myrtle Beach

Central Myrtle Beach is at the heart of these beaches, with areas like Cherry Grove and North Myrtle Beach to the north and Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet to the south.

What are the Best Beaches in Myrtle Beach for Families?

Each area of Myrtle Beach has its benefits for a different vacation vibe. Let’s look at our favorites.

Central Myrtle Beach

Central Myrtle Beach is touristy and crowded most times of the year. The big attractions of this area are the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk , which runs along the beach, and Broadway at the Beach , which is a 5-minute drive. More on those later.

Kokopelli Kid’s Surf Camp is a great part of Central Myrtle Beach. Here, kids and adults can learn to surf in the warm, gentle water from professional surfers. Choose between one to three days of lessons, from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday through Friday in June, July, and August. Kokopelli’s also offers SUP and kayak tours!

North Myrtle Beach

One of the best things about North Myrtle Beach is its breathtaking sunrises – plus, you’ll want to get here early to avoid the crowds!

Sunrise on the beach. Things to do in Myrtle Beach for families.

Sunrises on the ocean just hit differently! Photo by Jeremy Ricketts on Unsplash

Another great spot known for surfing is the 66th Avenue Surf area in North Myrtle Beach. The locals hang out here, and it’s great for people who already know how to surf.

Cherry Grove Beach

Cherry Grove Beach is a low-key beach with fewer crowds that the whole family will love. Go swimming or fish off the Cherry Grove Pier. It’s also perfect for flying kites, digging for seashells, or playing beach games.

DON’T MISS! Make Unforgettable Memories with These 5 Best Family Vacations in the United States

Hurl Rocks Park

If shark teeth hunting is at the top of your itinerary, stop by Hurl Rocks Park . Teeth love washing ashore here. There’s also a beautiful beach for swimming. Much to my oldest son’s dismay, he didn’t see any actual sharks!

Surfside Beach

For families with younger kids, we love Surfside Beach . There are plenty of family-friendly amenities like bathrooms and a playground. The shallow waters and lifeguards on duty make parents feel safer. For kids interested in surfing, the gentle waves make this a great place to practice!

Hiking Around Myrtle Beach

Myrtle beach state park.

Myrtle Beach State Park has plenty of trails and picnic benches for a lunch surrounded by wildlife. Follow the well-maintained paths of the Yaupon, Sculptured Oak, and Pond trails and visit the three different nature areas with a length of about 2.5 miles total.

Huntington Beach State Park

For families willing to drive, Huntington Beach State Park to the south, near Murrells Inlet, is worth a visit. It’s the perfect place for birdwatching, and visitors can even spot turtles in the water. For fishermen, there’s also a fishing pier and tackle shop!

Areas to Stroll Around Myrtle Beach

Enjoy coastal views and plenty of activities at these boardwalks in the Myrtle Beach area.

Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade is a 1.2-mile stretch of shopping, entertainment, food, and beach views. Don’t miss the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel , a huge Ferris wheel with 42 enclosed glass observation areas showcasing beach views from 187 feet above ground.

Myrtle Beach Skywheel and boardwalk. Things to do in Myrtle Beach for families.

Broadway at the Beach

Broadway at the Beach is also the center of food, entertainment, and fun things to do, including the Hollywood Wax Museum , with wax figures, a mirror maze, and a zombie maze! We loved the wax figures, but my boys really enjoyed the zombie maze. They were 9 and 7 when we visited, and it was creepy, good fun without being too scary.

Visitors will also find WonderWorks Myrtle Beach here, an art gallery with interactive exhibits, including a giant piano/keyboard kids can jump on and a hurricane simulator, glow-in-the-dark ropes course, and laser tag.

Murrells Inlet

Murrells Inlet is a charming coastal sound at the southmost part of the Myrtle Beach stretch of beaches. This coastal area has a laid-back atmosphere and marshland running along the beach. Take in the views while walking along MarshWalk , a collection of shops and restaurants, and stop somewhere to enjoy live music and a meal.

Other Fun Activities for Families Visiting Myrtle Beach

As a popular tourist destination, the Myrtle Beach area has plenty of fun attractions to entertain families.

Get Close to Sharks at Ripley’s Aquarium

Families can walk through Ripley’s Aquarium in about 1.5-3 hours. There are plenty of interactive exhibits and activities, including touch tanks for sting rays, horseshoe crabs, jellyfish, mermaid shows, and countless types of underwater life.

Two boys in front of jellyfish tank. Things to do in Myrtle Beach for families.

Our kids loved walking through the 340-foot underwater tunnel while sharks, tarpons, eels, and sea turtles swam in the 750,000 gallons of water around them. We’ve been to more than a dozen different aquariums, and this was one of their favorite exhibits of all time.

Take in a Dinner Show

Myrtle Beach has no shortage of incredible dinner shows. Consider dinner at the Medieval Times . Go back to the 11th century and enjoy a four-course banquet, complete with a knight jousting show! Kids will also love the Polynesian Fire Luau dinner!

Water Slides and Theme Park Rides

There are amusement park-style rides all over Myrtle Beach boardwalks. These dedicated amusement parks are a great way to spend a half day or longer. Myrtle Waves Water Park has more than 30 water slides and attractions, including a kids’ play area, lazy river, wave pool, and FlowRider surf simulator. At Family Kingdom Amusement Park , enjoy kiddie rides, family rides, and thriller rides, including a 2,400-foot-long wooden rollercoaster that has been running since the park opened in 1966.

Burn Energy Exploring Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is more than just a garden, with a 100-foot-long bridge, flowing water, beautiful botanicals, dozens of sculptures, and even a zoo inside! Visit with animals native to the area, including red foxes, white-tailed deer, alligators, and bald eagles.

Visit Mt. Atlanticus Minotaur Golf

Myrtle Beach is the mini golf capital of the world, but Mt. Antlanticus Minotaur Golf is our favorite for families with older kids. Golf on two 19-hole courses across a sprawling landscape, complete with tiki huts, waterfalls, mermaids, and minotaurs. And don’t forget to check out the beach views from the top of the golf course!

For younger kids, we recommend wild adventures among safari animals at Jungle Safari Mini Golf or hanging with the Lost Boys and the fairies at Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf !

Go on a Pirate Cruise

Blackbeard’s Pirate Cruise is located on the intercoastal waterway behind 4 Points Sheraton. Climb aboard a real pirate ship and set sail for the high seas! Don pirate tattoos and mustaches, go on a treasure hunt, and take part in water cannon and interactive sword fights! This swashbuckling adventure is one kids won’t soon forget.

Places to Eat with Kids in Myrtle Beach

Any kid will love DinoLand Cafe . The themed restaurant has animatronic dinosaurs, and there are plenty of dining options, including fall-off-the-bone ribs and caveman-style steaks.

Peaches Corner is a hot dog stand across the street from Old Pavilion on Ocean Boulevard. A great place to people-watch while tasting delicious, kid-friendly foods like their famous cheeseburger baskets and chili dogs served since 1937.

No restaurant list for Myrtle Beach would be complete without seafood so close to the ocean! Sea Captain’s House has incredible food, indoor and outdoor seating, and live music. Plus, the kid’s menu has everything from shrimp and fish to chicken tenders and peanut butter and jelly. Even the pickiest eaters are sure to be happy!
