Wij hebben een hele positieve ervaring gehad met Manosgoing. Lindos is heel leuk om eens gezien te hebben. Tijdens de busreis naar het stadje vertelde Manos ons allerlei interessante weetjes over Rhodos en heeft hij ons nog wat tips gegeven om te doen op onze vakantie. Hij lijkt veel plezier te hebben in zijn vak en kent het eiland heel goed, wat hem een leuke reisleider maakt. Hetzelfde valt te zeggen over Gunta, wie samen met Manos de reis begeleidde. Vanwege de coronacrisis was het niet zo druk dus in plaats van met de rode bus te gaan zijn we met een luxe zwart busje gegaan, wat ook een hele leuke plus was! Na aanleiding van deze reis hebben we nog twee andere reizen met Manosgoing geboekt 🙂

Nous avons passé une excellente journée lors de notre excursion sur l’île de Symi. Il s’agit d’une île très jolie, à voir si l’on séjourne à proximité. Nous avons eu un premier arrêt au monastère de Panormitis avant que le ferry nous dépose dans le magnifique village de Symi.

I travel a lot and I find myself in situations where busses are running late…Nobody wants to wait long while being on holidays… I booked two trips with ManosGoing and I was extremely pleased with them. The tour guide, Maria, was such a great person, kind and caring. I did not have change on me as I usually pay with a debit or a credit card, but there were places such as butterfly valley where only accepted cash. Maria was nice enough to lend some money to me to still be able to take...

First of all I would like to point out the exceprional services that Manosgoing offers as well as the professional yet personalised approach of Manos and Gunta. I was picked up on time from my hotel with a luxurious black van and was dropped in front of the cruise boat that took me to Symi. The staff on the boat was very welcoming and polite and the captain throughout the journey was providing helpful and interesting info of the surrounding islnad and our destination. The initial stop at the bay of Panormitis was a lifetime experince to me and as we enter the bay you immediately feel the energy of that place which is indeed confirmed when you enter the church of the Monastery and you face the immense icon of St. Michael the Archangel that commands your attention. This was a thrilling experience to me and I urge you...

If you go to Rhodes just make a point to book it all via Manos Going. I really enjoyed their service.

Good quality on the (midi) bus used to transfer from hotel to the boat and back, bus came in time (six minutes early). The boat did also seem good. Would not hesitate to book another trip with this company (Manos going)

We booked two tours with this company, the transfer to Lindos, and a private tour of the countryside with Manos himself. The latter was great value at 50 euros per person, for six people, for a whole day. It cost pretty much the same as a Tui excursion, but we got to decide how long we spent in each location, and as a result got to see lots more of the island. We went up into the mountains, saw all the peacocks, and visited two beautiful ruined castles. We chose to cut the tour a bit short due to two of the group feeling travel sick, but still felt we’d had a great day sightseeing. Booking was easy with good communication. I’d recommend this company as a really good alternative to Tui excursions.

We had a really great time on this tour. The schedule was very well thought out, perfect balance of information and free time. In Swedish this would be called very lagom! Wonderful tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of the island, who actually teaches a university class on this very topic. Clear and interesting delivery. We had a wonderful private day tour with Manos, the owner of the tour company, visiting Fillerimos, Kalithea and Lindos, as well as various other nice stops for photos. He is such a kind and thoughtful man, who is an excellent and experienced driver/guide. The minivan was brand new, very comfortable and luxurious. Manos knew exactly how long we would need at each place, as well as knowing the best times to visit to avoid the large tour groups from the cruise ships. This day was one of the highlights of our fantastic holiday in Rhodes, and we would definitely arrange more tours with Manos and his company if we ever return to the island. Thank you!

Fender Rhodes Piano Transportation Tips

Moving a Rhodes piano is not easy, but it can be easier if you do it right. Here are some tips that will save you time, and protect your Rhodes, car, and body.

1. Protect your piano and your car

Place a thick blanket in the car. You can get mover’s blankets in your local hardware store, these are the best. Slide the piano on top of the blanket. Position the piano in the car in its playing position.

2. Got everything?

Be sure to include everything related to your Rhodes piano. For Stage models, make sure you bring your pedal, pedal rod, legs, crossbars, and crossbars knob. For the Suitcase models, bring your amp and cables.  If you have any spare parts, make sure to bring them too.

3. Don’t break your back

It’s a two-person job so get someone to help you move your Rhodes into the car. Once you get to our workshop, we’ll help you carry it from the car. The legs and pedal of Rhodes Stage models add weight. It may be easier to pack and carry them separately.

You can use Uber/Lyft if your Rhodes doesn’t fit into your car. Most Rhodes pianos and amps fit in hatchback cars like the Toyota Prius. For long-distance transportation, consider using affordable specialty movers like uship.com and shiply.com .

Two key mappings, — interactive songs —, — musical scales and modes —, ¿what is a musical scale.

A scale is a set of musical notes ordered as a well-defined sequence of intervals (tones and semitones). A semitone is the minimum distance between two consecutive notes in any tempered scale (12 equal semitones per octave). In other words, a semitone is also the distance between two consecutive keys on the piano. For example, the distance between C and C# (black key next to C), or the distance between E and F (both being white keys). However, the distance between C and D, for example, is a full tone (or two semitones).

Musical scales are an essential part of music improvisation and composition. Practicing scales will provide you with the necessary skills to play different styles of music like Jazz, Flamenco or Blues. You can also use scales to create your own melodies and set the mood of your piece.

Any chosen scale can be transported to any tonal center (e.g. E minor and A minor both use the same minor scale). The tonal center or tonic is the note where the scale hierarchy starts and it is represented on the virtual piano with a darker blue dot. When playing music under a particular scale, you should normally avoid any key without a blue dot, although composers sometimes use altered notes which are not within the scale.

Notes in a scale do not need to be played in a particular order, you can play them in any order you like, so feel free to improvise!

Travel Piano Teaching, is It Worth It?

I am old enough to remember one time when I was sick our family doctor came to my house. ‘House call’ that was what they used to call it. Can you imagine that?

There are still piano teachers who travel to student’s homes. But is it worth it?

I have done it all, (after all, I am old enough to remember my doctor coming to my house) I have taught at home, at studios, at music stores, and online, and I have traveled. I still travel…a little bit.

I have a family with three kids that I travel to on Saturday mornings. They pay me very well, it’s not far from where I live, and I want to give hubby (and the neighbors) a break from the daily piano circus that goes on in the house. They are flexible, I am flexible, and it works out. I have one other homeschooler who lives 5 minutes door to door and takes her lesson at noon. Her grandmother can’t drive her, and they pay me extra to go there.

The rest of my students are either online or they come to me. As of this post, I have 43 students.

I know some teachers feel that they have to travel. You may be one of those teachers. Not having space in your own home or apartment or having strict community rules may keep you from being able to have students come to your house.

So that begs the question. How do you make that work?

A –Charge a lot more.

B – Give your students a choice.

Let’s take a look at option ‘A’

If you teach from 3:00 pm to 7:30 that makes 9, 30-minute lessons back-to-back. At the rate of $30 per half-hour, you earn $270.00 for an afternoon of work. (before taxes). Not bad. Way to go!

If you want to begin teaching at 3:00 and you travel you must get out the door at about 2:45 and finish at 7:15 if you want to get home by 7:30. Leaving 15 minutes between students, you can teach only 6 students. (Maybe less, depending on how far apart your students are.)

So, to make that same $270.00 you have to charge $45.00 per half hour. Actually, that would be closer to $50.00 per hour if you add on the extra 15 minutes to get to the first student plus, gas, mileage, and a convenience fee. Remember, it’s you, fighting traffic out in the cold, rain, heat, and snow.

“But wait! My families won’t pay 50 bucks for a half-hour lesson.”

Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. But you need to be paid.

Or you can’t stay in business.

Yes, business.

“But if they all quit then I won’t have any students.”

This is where option ‘B’ comes in.

I learned a long time ago that the best thing to do is to give people a choice between two or three acceptable options.

Here’s the choice. Pay extra to have me come to your home or take your lesson online.

If you absolutely cannot teach from home, and don’t want to teach online. You have to decide whether you would be better working for a studio than traveling. True, studios take their cut but most handle all the billing, cancellations, marketing, and recital planning. Plus, (outside of the obvious pay differential) I have always really enjoyed working where there are other musicians.

So, what’s the point?

The point is you can’t continue in an unsustainable job.

I am pretty sure there are lots of reasons why doctors don’t come to homes anymore. Insurance, equipment, etc. but it probably isn’t very cost-effective either.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen. We are musicians, with musicians’ hearts and souls. But we are also entrepreneurs, business people, strong, wise, and savvy.

Make good decisions for yourself. Charge what you are worth, you’re worth it!
