What to Consider

There are a number of factors at play before you can make a sound decision on a room divider. Keep the following in mind and you’ll be on your way to making an excellent choice.

Size: If you want to just block out a small distraction from your line of vision, you’re not going to need an 8-foot-long screen. But if noise and general privacy are your top considerations, go big. Think carefully about your needs and the size of your space before selecting a divider, and make sure to measure your space before making a purchase. Design: Depending on your age, the aesthetic of your home, and where the screen will go, the desired design will be quite different. A painted screen may look great in an otherwise minimalist home, but it may overwhelm spaces with patterned furniture, or could be distracting in a space that's being used as an office. Extras: Some screens also feature shelves, while others block out sound or sunlight.

How We Evaluated

We thought of all of the different reasons people might need screens for their home, school, and work lives. We also kept different aesthetics, space, and budget needs in mind. We surveyed the market, consulted professional designers, and read through hundreds of product reviews to come up with our top picks.

Roundhill Furniture Panel Wood Frame Divider

Panel Wood Frame Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H): 70 x 69.2 inches
  • Weight: 20 pounds
  • Fabric: Pine, MDF, non-woven fabric
  • Special Features: Folds flat for storage, fully assembled on delivery

This Giyano four-panel room divider will work well in contemporary, modern, rustic, and traditional settings. It features an intricate mosaic MDF board design, backed by high-quality non-woven fabric, and framed in solid pine wood. It arrives fully assembled, and is light enough for most adults to move and set up without assistance.

When not in use, this screen will fold flat for storage. Each panel is 17.3 by 0.8 by 70 inches, and the four panels combine to create a sizable screen perfect for dividing up larger spaces.

MyGift Handwoven Bamboo Room Divider

Handwoven Bamboo Room Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 97.4 x 70.9 inches
  • Weight: 14.4 pounds
  • Fabric: Bamboo
  • Special Features: 5 bamboo frame panels with two-way hinges, folds into compact size for storage

This intricate handwoven bamboo screen features diamond design patterns, giving its otherwise neutral look a pop of style. The foldable panel screen is 8 feet long and 6 feet high when fully extended, making it a helpful addition to large open spaces. The five panels have two-way hinges, which means it’s easy to fold in either direction.

The elegant but natural-looking panel would look great in farmhouse-style living rooms, bedrooms, and offices, but isn't recommended for outdoor use. The bamboo it's made of is both eco-friendly and highly renewable, and factors into the screen's light 14.4-pound weight.

West Elm Tiered Cecilia Screen

Tiered Cecilia Screen

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 49 x 72 inches
  • Weight: 25 pounds
  • Fabric: Hand-upholstered solid pine frame
  • Special Features: Handcrafted

This three-paneled tiered screen comes in several solid colors (including sand, white, dove gray, mauve), patterns (paradis abstrait, petit jardin, dune), and fabrics (plain weave, textured weave, velvet).

The distinctive screen will add a mod touch to any home, and design enthusiasts will dig its top-quality frame, handcrafted upholstery, and six brass metal hinges. The screen works as an elegant space divider for large and small spaces, and the solid construction means it will block sound too. The curved panels and staggered height also make it a gorgeous backdrop when not in use as a room divider.

Beachcrest Home White Breault Panel Folding Room Divider

White Breault Panel Folding Room Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 64 x 67 inches
  • Weight: 32 pounds
  • Fabric: Manufactured wood
  • Special Features: Comes with nine shelves

This stylish four-panel wooden room divider comes in white and natural wood shades. It has nine shelves with a maximum weight capacity of 22 pounds, so you can display knickknacks, plants, picture frames, or books without worrying about it toppling.

When it’s not in use, the room divider can be easily folded up and stowed away. This versatile divider will work in living or office space, and its six durable hinges allow you to change the direction of the panel as needed.

Bay Isle Home Walnut Lapierre Single Panel Divider

Walnut Lapierre Single Panel Divider

  • Dimensions ( W x H) : 38 x 68 inches
  • Weight: 9 pounds
  • Fabric: Cotton, bamboo, metal
  • Special Features: Floor-to-ceiling design

This room divider is quite different than the usual accordion-style space slicers. This Bay Isle divider features floor-to-ceiling design with two vertical tension rods—which expand up to 120 inches in length—to hold it in place.

Because the divider is a little north of 3 feet wide, it will work best in smaller spaces—or you may want to consider getting more than one. The privacy panel does require some assembly, but it’s manageable. It should also be noted that the panel itself can be moved up or down, making the look and privacy level customizable.

Legacy Decor Panels Room Divider

Panels Room Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 52 x 71 inches (for three panels)
  • Weight: 16.8 pounds
  • Fabric: White shoji rice paper, wood frame
  • Special Features: Two-way hinges, comes in multiple sizes and colors

Shoji-style doors and screens are traditional to Japan. They feature latticework wooden frames, and tough but translucent white paper that diffuses light. This room divider comes in multiple colors, include black, white, and red, and multiple sizes, from three panels on up to eight.

This functional and attractive piece will meld well with a wide variety of home design styles, and features brass two-way hinges that fold in both directions. This divider will beautifully divide up large and small spaces, and multiple units can be used together.

Wayfair Basics Aanya Hanging Room Divider

Aanya Hanging Room Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 100 x 84 inches
  • Weight: 6 pounds
  • Fabric: Polyester
  • Special Features: Reduces noise, creates broad privacy zone

If you need a serious dose of privacy in your living space, this hanging room divider might be your best option. The polyester curtain comes in charcoal, gray, pearl, stone, and white, and fits any curtain rod up to 1.5 inches in diameter. (The rod is sold separately). This panel is a great find for studio apartments, dorm rooms, and anywhere you need flexibility and privacy.

While this polyester curtain won’t win awards in the looks department, it gets the job done, is affordable, and earns bonus points for also reducing noise.

JVVMNJLK Indoor Portable Room Divider

Indoor Portable Room Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 102 x 71.3 inches
  • Weight: 12.13 pounds
  • Fabric: Polyester, steel
  • Special Features: Lightweight, easy to clean

If you’re looking for a lightweight and versatile room divider, this model is a great option. It isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing model out there, but it’s perfectly functional, made with water-resistant polyester and opaque cloth that can be used to block sunlight. This divider would work well in offices or casual family rooms that need to be portioned up.

The frames and the cloth on this divider are built to last, and while it has to be assembled, it’s easy to do so. Once put together, it’s easy to move around, and features three flexible dividing panels. When not in use, it can be folded up and stored.

ORIENTAL Furniture Parisian Street Room Divider

Parisian Street Room Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 48 x 71 inches
  • Weight: 13 pounds
  • Fabric: Poly-cotton blend canvas, wood frame
  • Special Features: Colorful street scenes

If a trip to Paris is off the table, but you’re still craving a transatlantic escape, this room divider is worth checking out. The sturdy, well-made three-panel divider showcases beautiful and colorful street scenes from Paris. The lightweight and portable screen serves as a privacy protector and a decorative accent at once. This screen—which features prints on both sides—would work well in a dorm room or family room. The panel exudes a vintage feel, and its canvas fabric is tough and durable.

Esright Six-Panel Room Divider

Six-Panel Room Divider

  • Dimensions (W x H) : 98.4 x 66 inches
  • Weight: 16.3 pounds
  • Fabric: Wood
  • Special Features: Six panels that fold 360 degrees

This classic wooden room divider will work in traditional, farmhouse, and rustic spaces. The six-paneled divider will elegantly slice and dice your living space, with two-way hinges making it easy to arrange at different angles. It is formaldehyde-free, eco-safe, non-toxic, and durable, and its 16.3-pound weight makes it easy to move, despite its size. When it is not in use, it can be folded up and stored. Minor assembly is required. Esright also provides excellent customer service if anything goes wrong.

The 8 Best Room Dividers

Create privacy zones and add vertical interest in any space

In This Article

  • Our Top Picks
  • What to Look For
  • Why Trust The Spruce

The Spruce / Lecia Landis

A room divider can help you break up a large space when you need temporary privacy, sound control, or light filtration. It can offer a stylish way to transform a section of your room into a functional home office , for example.

"Not only can a divider help you designate distinct zones (think living versus sleeping), function like a boundary, or even create essential privacy, but it can also add a pop of color, pattern, texture, and vertical interest to a space," says Havenly design editor Heather Goerzen .

To help you narrow down the many options out there to help create multi-use rooms , we researched designs for every purpose, decor preference, room size, and budget.

Best Overall

Red barrel studio niemann folding room divider.

Traditional shoji style

Five colors and six sizes

Arrives fully assembled

Larger sizes are cumbersome and pricey

There are many gorgeous room dividers on the market, but when it comes to aesthetics, functionality, and versatility, the Niemann is tough to beat. Inspired by traditional Japanese shojis, it features semi-translucent sheets of thick rice paper on a solid pine wood lattice-style frame. The perfect balance of practical and elegant, this piece boasts durable construction and an elegant appeal.

You can choose from five frame colors, including black, light natural wood, deep espresso, red, and white. A black frame contrasting the white paper is the most classic option, but the others are undoubtedly lovely.

This room divider also comes in six sizes, with the option of three, four, five, six, eight, or 10 panels. The Neimann is reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of the solid wood frame—and unlike many other dividers, it arrives fully assembled. That said, the larger sizes are somewhat steep. They're more cumbersome too. For instance, the 10-panel option is 42 pounds, whereas the three-panel model is just 11 pounds.

Dimensions: 6 sizes available | Frame Material: Solid pine wood | Screen Material: Rice paper

Best Budget

Fdw bamboo room divider.

Excellent opacity

Easy to move

Only hinges in one direction

For households on a budget, we recommend the FDW Folding Room Divider. It has a solid pine wood frame and a textured bamboo-derived rayon screen with excellent opacity.

You can choose from black or natural and four or six panels. Both sizes are around 20 pounds, so they're easy to move. One thing to note is that, unlike many higher-end room dividers, this one only hinges in one direction, which makes it slightly less versatile in terms of where and how you can position it.

Dimensions: 72 x 71 inches, 72 x 106 inches | Frame Material: Pine wood | Screen Material: Bamboo-derived rayon

Best Extra-Large

Oriental furniture 8-panel shoji room divider.

Two-way hinges

Six colors available

Small gap between panels

Need something bigger? Check out this eight-panel room divider from Oriental Furniture. Available in six neutral colors, the traditional Japanese design features shoji-style window panes with a Scandinavian spruce wood frame and thick rice paper screens.

This partition filters light without blocking it completely, offering ambient illumination and privacy wherever you need it. The two-way hinges allow you to position it any which way. But unless you keep it entirely straight, there'll be a small gap between each panel.

Dimensions: 136 x 70 x 1 inches | Frame Material: Spruce wood | Screen Material: Rice paper

West Elm Ida Woven Screen

Kiln-dried wood frame

Contract-grade design

Decorative appeal

Pricey for the size

Somewhat heavy

West Elm makes our favorite small room divider. The Ida Woven Screen flaunts a solid mango wood frame, kiln-dried to enhance durability and ensure long-lasting strength. As for the frame, you're looking at rattan cane with partial light filtration and decorative appeal .

As a contract-grade piece, the design adheres to the manufacturing standards for both commercial and residential use. The Ida is somewhat heavy (46 pounds) and expensive for the size, but with West Elm, you can definitely count on quality.

Dimensions: 68 x 60.5 x 1.5 inches | Frame Material: Solid mango wood | Screen Material: Rattan cane

Best for Privacy

Ikea varhaug room divider.

Full opacity

Dampens sound

Only one color

Shorter than average

If privacy is the goal, go with the Ikea Varhaug. This room divider has a powder-coated steel frame and polyester-wrapped paperboard panels. In addition to full opacity, the materials help dampen sound.

The Varhaug can be used to set up a temporary  workspace  or guest room. You could also place it in front of a curtain-less window to create privacy or block outdoor light. One potential drawback is that this piece is about 10 inches shorter than most partitions, so it may not conceal a person's head when standing up.

Best Shutter

Highland dunes suniga folding room divider.

Four finishes and three sizes

We also like the Highland Dunes Suniga Room Divider. Made of solid fir wood, it has a sturdy frame and shutter-style panels that hinge in both directions. Not only that, but you can angle them like real window shutters to adjust your light filtration.

You can choose from four finishes (white, brown, black, or natural) and four, six, or eight panels. Just a heads up, there'll be a slight gap between each panel unless you position the divider completely straight.

Dimensions: 3 sizes available | Frame Material: Solid fir wood | Panel Material: Solid fir wood

Best Curtain

Ryb home wall divider privacy curtain.

Smooth, drapey fabric

Machine-washable

15 colors and 15 sizes

Rod sold separately

You can also divide a room with a curtain. We like the RYB Privacy Curtain, which is made of smooth, drapey triple-woven polyester and comes in your choice of 15 colors ranging from beige to black to burgundy. It's machine-washable too.

There are also 15 sizes available, so you're sure to find one that fits your space. The grommet top is designed to attach to a tension rod (sold separately). You could also install a more permanent rod for extra sturdiness, then hang the curtain when you need privacy.

Dimensions: 15 sizes available | Material: Polyester

Best Floor-to-Ceiling

Godear design deluxe adjustable sliding panel.

Cordless four-rail track

Light-filtering screens

Five colors available

Only fits 8-foot ceilings

Tricky to install

The GoDear Deluxe Sliding Panel is 96 inches tall, a perfect floor-to-ceiling option for spaces with 8-foot walls. Available in five neutral hues, it has a sturdy metal frame and light-filtering screens woven from a blend of polyester and paper.

This thoughtfully designed room divider has a cordless four-rail track you can mount virtually anywhere on your ceiling. And you can adjust the width from 46 to 86 inches. The panels are easy to attach with velcro, but you may want to hire a professional to install the track.

Final Verdict

Overall, we like the Red Barrel Studio Niemann Solid Wood Room Divider . Available in five colors and six sizes, this traditional shoji-style partition arrives fully assembled and offers light filtration, privacy, and decorative appeal. But if you're interested in floor-to-ceiling coverage, the GoDear Design Deluxe Adjustable Sliding Panel is your best bet.

What to Look For in a Room Divider

The first order of business is to identify the right size divider for your space. Most modern room dividers measure just under six feet tall, but lengths vary depending on the number of panels and their individual widths. If you're looking for something that's more decorative, a smaller three-panel divider is probably all you need. If you're trying to designate different areas in your home or you need a divider for privacy, there are options that go up to eight panels wide.

"A room divider falls in that magical category of furniture that marries both form and function," says Heather Goerzen Havenly design editor. If you live in a studio apartment, it can change the entire flow of your space, giving you distinct areas instead of one open room.

There are also storage room dividers, including ones with built-in shelves and others that double as bookcases, that offer even more functionality for tiny spaces. If you're just looking for something decorative, you have more flexibility to choose a divider for its aesthetics. Many options today are upholstered in colorful fabrics, or finished in trendy materials like rattan.

Room dividers aren't cheap, and you should expect to spend at least $50 on a free-standing one—although most are closer to $100. Prices go higher based on the construction and size, with six-paneled options (unsurprisingly) costing more than three-paneled models. If you really can't spend more than $25, consider buying a tension rod and curtain instead, to create a similar yet airier effect.

There are many ways a room divider can help you maximize your available space. "In open-concept spaces (whether small or large), room dividers can be essential for creating distinct areas for different activities," says Goerzen.

You can use one in a great room to section off zones, like the dining area, living room , and kitchen. If you live in a studio apartment , you can place one between the bed and seating area . In a bonus room, you can separate your home office from the homework area or media room. A partition can also divide a kids' room into two individual bedrooms. The possibilities are truly endless.

Room dividers are made in a number of different materials, such as cardboard, rattan, bamboo, wood, and upholstered fabric. It’s easier to knock over a room divider with fewer panels made from a lightweight material. And placing your room divider in a high traffic area increases its chances of getting bumped and possibly knocked over by kids, animals, or party guests.

"There are so many options on the market for a room divider that suits your space and style—whether modern organic, cottage cozy, or ultra-luxe," says Goerzen. A room divider can be anything that helps chop up a space that isn’t a solid wall.

There are freestanding accordion-style folding screens with multiple panels. Solid hanging or freestanding screens that consist of a single panel of wood slats or acoustic felt. A bookcase without a back is a common way to divide space while letting light flow through. A room divider may be a temporary wall, a sliding panel, floor-to-ceiling industrial metal and glass partitions that divide space without blocking views or light. Or something as simple as a curtain made from fabric, retro-style beads, string, or a wall of plants perched on a tall freestanding holder.

How to divide any hotel room so your toddlers can sleep

Our 2 year old is a great sleeper…if she has perfect conditions. On our 6 month trip we stayed in many, many places that were not. On a tight budget and frequently using airport hotels or AirBnb’s, we often shared a small space with the whole family. We have learned to put up room dividers in almost any situation for our daughter calm herself and go to sleep without distraction. With some creativity and a small kit, you can become a skilled room “partitioner” too.

Over the months, I widdled down my room divider kit to fit in a 4″x6″ sack weighing less than half a pound. Here is what I carried, with links to my suggested products on Amazon:

  • Parachute cord – to hang sheets from
  • Clothes pins – to hold sheets to the cord, three is ideal
  • 3M Command Hooks and extra Strips – when there are no tie downs
  • Screw hooks – for emergencies only
  • Small bungee cord – to tension and toddler-proof the parachute cord
  • Travel scissors – for working with Command Strips

Warning: you are about to see more crappy cell phone pics depicting our struggle for sleep on our trip. Turn away!

Tips and Tricks:

  • Book accommodation that offers a crib and arrange for it to be in your room on arrival. Often travel sites such as Hotels.com , Booking.com, or AirBnb allow you to filter by this as you search for lodging
  • Ask for an extra sheet (preferably king size) when you check in, or hold onto one through maid service on your second day
  • A broken clavicle is painful for you and your toddler! If no crib is available, protect your toddler from a bad fall out of bed. Lowering their bed, pushing beds up against the wall, putting “blockers” underneath the sheets, and putting cushioning below are all options
  • Look at your room’s features and adapt. As you see above, we used closets, stairs and other things to create some privacy. We also used curtain rods, bunk beds, stair railings, random nails in the walls, and even an upturned box spring to create separation
  • When that fails, use 3M Command Strips and Hooks to connect your cord to the wall. Use heavy duty ones and a small bungee cord connected to the rope to relieve some of the tension. Velcro strips are nice because they give rather than ripping paint from the wall. Use two hooks to hold each end up if necessary
  • In emergencies only, use screw hooks. Look for existing holes or use the edge between trim and wall
  • For extra style points then go without cordage. Tie the corner of the sheet to a feature in the room or close it in the closet or armoire door
  • Do not forget the white noise! These phone apps work great for us: White Noise Baby ( Android ) and ( Apple )
  • Have fun with it! Your kids will think they are sleeping in a giant fort

If you do things right, you and your partner can enjoy a few minutes together…hopefully you have a balcony! How do you handle sleeping arrangements on your toddler adventures?

Shopping for Room Dividers

If you don’t own a folding screen and you’re working from home, you may want to get one. Here’s why.

pop up travel room divider

By Tim McKeough

A folding screen is useful for dividing space, but it can do so much more.

“It really is a great way to bring in scale, texture, artistry or a decorative moment,” said Thom Filicia , the New York-based interior designer.

Screens, he noted, are essentially pop-up architecture.

Mr. Filicia uses them to separate various seating areas in one big space, or to soften the corners of a room. He uses them to hide ugly heating and air-conditioning equipment, and to frame or emphasize furniture, mirrors and art. And he has used them to create privacy in glass-walled apartments.

While room dividers were once de rigueur in professionally designed interiors, they are a little less common today. But Mr. Filicia thinks they’re due for a pandemic-driven comeback.

“Now that everyone’s doing home offices, I think screens are really going to go through a renaissance,” he said, because they’re an ideal way to create some physical separation between work and leisure. “Our personal spaces are becoming more multifunctional.”

How tall should a room divider be? That depends on where you plan to use it. Tall screens can be impressive, but Mr. Filicia has used screens as low as 30 inches high to conceal vents beneath a window.

Is an upholstered screen a good idea? It’s an opportunity to use fabric with a beautiful texture or pattern, Mr. Filicia said, and it can also improve the acoustics of an echoey room.

Should a room divider be opaque? If the goal is complete privacy, yes, but semitransparent screens are often a better choice. “They’re sort of like lingerie for the room,” Mr. Filicia said. “You’re seeing through them, but you’re not seeing everything.”

Did you know – Culture Trip now does bookable, small-group trips? Pick from authentic, immersive Epic Trips , compact and action-packed Mini Trips and sparkling, expansive Sailing Trips .

Russia’s main department store, the Moscow GUM is an ultimate architectural stunner, housing a variety of high-end boutiques. Built between 1890 and 1893 and known as the Upper Trading Rows until 1920, the legendary store is now home to over 200 boutiques selling a variety of brands: from luxury Dior to affordable Zara. Even if luxury shopping is not on your to-do list, the Moscow GUM is still worth a visit – the glass-roofed arcade faces Red Square, offers a variety of tasty Soviet-style eateries and makes a fantastic view in the dark.

Beautifully located in the historic centre of Moscow, the TSUM Department Store is mere steps from the city’s important tourist attractions, including Red Square. Built in 1908, the Gothic style store sells over 1000 famous brands, including Alexander McQueen, Lanvin and Carolina Herrera. Much like its cousin GUM, the TSUM Department Store is known for its luxury boutiques, stunning architecture and great eateries.

Okhotny Ryad

Okhotny Ryad Shopping centre is yet another shopping mall in the proximity of Red Square, which unlike GUM and TSUM offers a more down-to-earth price tag. One of the largest shopping centres in Moscow, this underground arcade is home to over 160 brands of apparel, footwear, jewelry, makeup and perfumes. Okhotny Ryad is also known for its great food court, where most tourists come to stop by, once they’ve done a tour of the Kremlin .

Tsvetnoy Central Market

A pure hipster heaven, the Tsvetnoy Central Market, or simply Tsvetnoy is seven floors of shopping, eating and fun. From the high street ground floor to the deluxe boutiques on the fifth, Tsvetnoy sells brands for every taste and budget, including Walk of Shame, American Apparel, All Saints, and Vivienne Westwood. Awarded by multiple design accolades, the beautiful shopping mall is also home to many great pop-up shops, Moscow’s biggest Rive Gauche store and the best indoor farmer’s market in the city.

AFIMALL City

Somewhat farther from the city centre, AFIMALL City is a dramatically less crowded and very impressive shopping mall right in the heart of Moscow City Business District. Praised for its innovative design, the store comprises five levels of retail space with over 400 shops, 50 restaurants and cafés and an IMAX cinema. Built for adults and children alike, AFIMALL City is a must if you plan on visiting Moscow City Business District.

Metropolis Shopping Centre

Metropolis

Metropolis is where you should go for high-street retail if you don’t feel like traveling too far from the city centre. Home to boutiques like Zara, Marks & Spencer, H&M, New Yorker, GAP and River Island, Metropolis also houses a huge supermarket, bowling alley, swimming pool and a cinema.

Aviapark Shopping Centre

Aviapark

Of all the malls on the list, Aviapark takes the most time to get to, but Europe’s biggest mall is definitely worth the free shuttle bus ride. With over 500 stores, 80 eateries and a 17-screen cinema, all spread across the equivalent of 36 football pitches, Aviapark is officially the most popular shopping mall in Moscow. However, the major draw of the glass-roofed shopping centre is the 24-meter-tall pillar aquarium, filled with tropical fish.

Kings of Russia

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

  • Posted on April 14, 2018 July 26, 2018

pop up travel room divider

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

pop up travel room divider

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

pop up travel room divider

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

pop up travel room divider

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

pop up travel room divider

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

pop up travel room divider

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.

Hanging Room Divider Screens Flower Carving Pattern Panels Home Office(Set Of 24)

  • Frame Material: Plastic/Acrylic
  • Location: Indoor Use Only

My daughter decided to move into our large basement, which was previously a playroom. We still needed half the space for toys for her younger siblings and we used our bookshelves as room dividers. She still felt like she didn't have much privacy, especially when people were coming down the stairs and could see over to her side. We also needed to preserve the air flow since it's a basement. I came across these. They are very lightweight and we just screwed some small hooks into the ceiling. The most tedious part was punching out some of the holes that were still connected. The pattern is really pretty and provides a barrier between the two areas. (1.5 sets are pictured.). Kristen. Andrews, TX. 2022-11-07 17:24:56

Anyone looking to separate a room will find out that there is a limited amount of quality and appealing options. Some closets for some reason, lack a door as well, and again, options are limited and sometimes very costly. Entirely handmade and hand-painted, our bamboo beaded curtains are sure to please even the most discerning buyer. These curtains are not pumped out by a machine factory but are made entirely by hand. From selecting and cutting the beads to hooking the beads onto each strand to painting of the image on the curtain… All are hand-done by skilled artisans. Each curtain image represents the owner’s personal style. From the florals to the tropics, each curtain not only has a great usage effect but instantly lights up the area that you place these in. Nice color combinations will light up the room or even a solid color that blends in casually to any space. For the curtains with images, the image is on both sides of the curtain. Each curtain measures about 36” and the length varies from piece to piece from about 75-78” long depending on the piece and the artisan who made it. The strands (90 of them) of bamboo beads are attached to a wooden bar on the top of the curtain. This wooden bar can be cut down to fit to smaller widths but that would mean cropping the image. The length cannot be extended or shortened. When installed, you can walk right through the strands of bamboo beads and it is see-through between the strands as well.

Camillus 31.5'' W x 31.5'' H Hanging Room Divider (Set of 4)

by Ophelia & Co.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars. 300 total votes

Got a bigger bedroom that could be broken up a bit? Define separate spaces without completely closing off the room with this set of four budget-friendly room dividers. Crafted from acrylic plastic, each piece strikes a square 31.5" silhouette and can be arranged however you want to spruce up a wall or split a space. A cutout quatrefoil trellis motif gives them an eye-catching and open look, while a versatile white finish allows them to blend with any color palette. Connection hardware is included.

Needed something to obscure the water heater in laundry room without limiting access. These were perfect. They are lightweight and more flexible than I expected which I like because they still hang straight but are not brittle. you can cut to size to make look custom. The panels come with little metal connectors that you can use as top loops. But I was puzzled on how to hang on a drywall ceiling with no stud. Even though they are light, small screw hooks ripped right out. So I found command hooks that will hopefully carry the load - 6 panels are about 4lbs. Alternately I planned to use drywall anchors with D ring hangers (found in picture hanging dept) with S hooks. I also asked Wayfair for recommendations on hanging hardware.. Karen. Add a bit of versatility and privacy to your space with this noise-reducing room divider curtain panel. It's made from polyester in a solid hue, with various size options depending on the size of your room and the height of your ceiling. Metal grommets allow for easy opening and closing, and it fits curtain rods up to 1.5" in diameter (sold separately). This is a great find, especially helpful for studio apartments and larger rooms you want to turn into two individual spaces.

  • Frame Material: Polyester

VERY WELL CONSTRUCTED with terrific grommets that allowed me to hang it on almost any sized curtain rod. I am using it as a sound dampening drape in my home studio and used a thick curtain rod because of the weight of the drape. It IS quite heavy! The curtain is luxurious feeling heavy polyester type finish, but not shiny. I recommend this for people looking for a good, decent looking, reasonably effective sound divider.. james. las vegas, NV. 2021-11-03 23:54:21

72 Fun & Unusual Things to Do in Moscow

fun things to do in Moscow

  • 0 Pinterest

Sure, Moscow is the Russian political capital and the nation’s most populous city, but describing it as such couldn’t be any further from the truth. More accurately, Moscow is a city of contrasts.

It exudes history — its Kremlin dates back centuries, nodding to royalty and leadership old and now, while the famed Red Square, the poster child of the city, blends striking color with ancient tradition and religion.

On the other hand, it’s a city of modern pop culture and towering skyscrapers; a place where you’ll come across new-age museums, arts centers, manmade parks, and an efficient transportation system that’s one of the most beautiful in Europe.

It’s a city of longstanding culture — the Bolshoi Theater is an international symbol for excellence in classical dance, while Russia’s National Ballet Company remains renowned worldwide — as well as upbeat nightlife, with some of the world’s most celebrated rooftop bars and nightclubs.

While it’s a city filled with opposites, there remains no shortage of things to do in Moscow for all types of travelers — from those who want cultural immersion to those looking for an epic night out, you’ll be spoiled for choice. And if you’re not sure where to start, here’s a list of suggestions!

The Moscow Kremlin

If there’s any particular district begging to be the first place you visit on your trip, it’s the Kremlin.

Built in the 16th century by Ivan the Terrible, the UNESCO-listed area has since become the heart of Russia’s capital city, where you’ll find several churches, palaces, and other noteworthy buildings.

We’ll dive into each of its main attractions in a second, but regardless of what you visit, try to make it to the Kremlin in time for sunset — because seeing its golden domes glinting in the late-afternoon light makes for one spectacular tourist photo!

As your eyes dart down the towering red-brick Kremlin wall, the first thing you’ll notice is its large towers of all different styles and sizes.

With a whopping 20 separate minarets towering above the historic area, each with its own name, colors, features and history, a guided tour to learn each of their fascinating stories is a must.

To give you a little taste, the Konstantin-Yeleninskaya Tower once housed a torture chamber. Saviour’s Tower at the main entrance boasts a famous chiming clock, the Secret Tower houses a secret escape tunnel, and the Trinity Tower is the tallest of them all.

2 – Visit the enormous Grand Kremlin Palace | the Kremlin

Grand Kremlin Palace, Moscow

A remarkable attraction in terms of both beauty and history, the Grand Kremlin Palace is an ornate rococo-style building that was commissioned during the reign of Nicholas I, and today acts as the official residence of none other than the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

Perched atop Borovitsky Hill, its 125-meter-long facade is unmissable, making for impressive photos.

Take note: guided tours are few and far between, so you’ll have to book a few weeks in advance if you want to check out the decorated inner sanctum.

3 – People-watch in Cathedral Square | the Kremlin

Cathedral Square, Moscow

One of the most popular areas in all of Moscow (sometimes called Sobornaya Square), with multiple massive churches at its heart, Cathedral Square is flanked by several historic buildings and is never shy of a tourist crowd.

The three main churches — each spectacular works of architecture in their own right — are the Cathedral of the Assumption (the oldest and the biggest of all Kremlin churches), the 16th-century Cathedral of the Archangel Michael (known for its beautiful Corinthian gables and turrets), and the golden-domed Cathedral of the Annunciation (which connects to the Grand Kremlin Palace’s main building).

Throw in the 60-meter-high Ivan the Great Bell Tower, the lesser-known Church of the Twelve Apostles , the Church of the Deposition of the Virgin’s Robe (underrated yet famous for its marvelous stained-glass windows), and the medieval residence-turned-museum that is The Patriarch’s Palace, and you can see why this square is regularly number one on any visitor’s list of things to do in Moscow.

4 – See a show at the State Kremlin Palace | the Kremlin

State Kremlin Palace, Moscow

Just like the Grand Kremlin Palace , this theater and prestigious concert hall — with its grandiose facade and multiple sculptures — is another ornate building that’s worth admiring.

A popular place to hold conferences, the State Kremlin Palace was originally built as part of a larger complex for Communist Party meetings, but today hosts some of the biggest events in Moscow — we’re talkin’ sold-old ballet performances, world-famous concerts, opera shows, and festivals.

Check the website to see what’s on the calendar for your visit!

5 – See centuries worth of national treasures at the Armoury Chamber | the Kremlin

Armoury Chamber, Moscow

For anyone with an interest in historical weaponry and armor, this museum — which dates back to the early 1500s when it was created as the royal armory — is a must-see.

The Armoury Chamber (as well as the Diamond Fund Exhibition) is home to some of the most valuable objects that were originally owned by Russian monarchs — from jeweled heirlooms and intricate boxes to ornately decorated pistols and swords — many of which are centuries old.

Within the armoury chamber, you’ll also find the Russian historical regalia, a collection of artifacts that belonged to Russian tsars and emperors between the 13th and 20th centuries, highlighted by the Ivory Throne and the Monomakh’s Cap.

6 – Step inside the Palace of the Facets | the Kremlin

Palace of the Facets, Moscow

The Palace of the Facets is one of the most underrated buildings in all of Moscow, largely because it’s not as widely promoted or photographed even though its exterior adorns some postcards.

From the outside, it blends in with the crowd. But step inside and you’ll discover a world of beauty and wonder — its frescoes, golden columns and enormous rooms are a sight to behold

The Palace of the Facets is not only a piece of art (literally, with painted walls), dating back over 500 years, but also acted as the dining hall for the Tsars.

7 – Feel small next to the Tsar Bell | the Kremlin

Tsar Bell, Moscow

Making Philadelphia’s famous Liberty Bell look diminutive in size, this monument , which never actually functioned as a bell due to its immense size (at 205 tons and standing 20.1 feet high!), has found fame in recent years for being the heaviest attraction inside The Kremlin.

With the bronze landmark’s claim to fame of being the biggest bell in the world, it presents as a great, quick photo op when roaming through the Kremlin.

8 – Check out the Senate Palace | the Kremlin

Senate Palace, Moscow

Another architectural masterpiece that’s tucked away within the Kremlin, this palace is famous for being one of Moscow’s most beautiful buildings — its yellow façade curves around to face inward and truly engulf anyone who stands near it.

Built back in the late 1700s, today it houses the Russian presidential administration and, unfortunately for us, is off limits to the general public.

Still, admiring it from outside, with the nearby Tsar Cannon, is certainly good enough.

9 – Grab a photo in front of the Tsar Cannon | the Kremlin

Tsar Cannon, Moscow

One of Moscow’s most iconic symbols, Tsar Cannon (or Royal Cannon) is a cannon that was manufactured in 1586 and resides — yep, you guessed it — within The Kremlin.

Following the theme of the enormous Tsar Bell, it weighs a whopping 39 tons — making it one of the world’s largest cannons even though it has never been shot.

And while its size may be impressive on its own, what makes this cannon so special is that it’s adorned with intricate carvings, ornaments, inscriptions, and a figure of a horse-riding Tsar Feodor the Bellringer.

10 – Join a tour of the Terem Palace | the Kremlin

Terem Palace, Moscow

A stunning, fairytale-like palace that’s steeped in history and detail, the five-story Terem Palace is one of the most underrated attractions within The Kremlin. However, as part of the official residence of the Russian President, much of it is off-limits to snap-happy tourists.

That said, there’s still plenty to be seen in the accessible areas by joining a group tour: a beautiful white-stone carved staircase; curved, decorated, and painted ceilings; and an enchanting low-vaulted Antechamber with lancet windows.

The Red Square

As we move away from the Kremlin, our next stop is the most photographed, picturesque public area in the country.

Flanked by gorgeous, colorful towers and buildings, the Red Square is the most famous square in all of Russia — and one that’s steeped in history, patriotism, and communist symbolism.

Home to some of Moscow’s greatest landmarks including St Basil’s Cathedral (featuring its iconic onion domes), Lenin Mausoleum, GUM department store (an architectural masterpiece that is the most famous shopping mall in Russia), The State History Museum, and more, it’s not just a sight to see in Moscow but also one that has been seen by hundreds of millions from around the world.

11 – Make your way inside St. Basil’s Cathedral | Red Square

St. Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow

Built back in the early 1500s, this quirky-looking, 65-meter-tall Orthodox church is so unique and detailed that it’s earned its place as one of 16 UNESCO cultural sites in Russia — and, thanks to many Hollywood productions like Bond: Skyfall (2012), has only continued to increase in fame.

Its exterior boasts multi-colored domes crowned with golden onion top spires. Meanwhile, inside, you’ll find nine small, separate chapels, and plenty of decorated walls and windows — all best viewed as part of a walking tour of Red Square.

12 – Visit the State Historical Museum | Red Square

State Historical Museum, Moscow

One of seven museums that can be found around the expansive Red Square, the State Historical Museum is one of Moscow’s most revered.

Housed in a neoclassical building (the same as GUM), it features more than 4 million items relating to Russian history — making it so vast and incredible that you’ll need at least two hours inside to see just a fraction.

While you’re in the area, be sure to check out the Marshal Georgy Zhukov Monument, a towering horse-riding statue of arguably the most famous and heroic Soviet military commander of WWII, which can be found in front of the museum.

13 – Shop till you drop at GUM | Red Square

GUM department store, Moscow

The official state department store of Russia, having opened in 1893 and become one of Moscow’s most iconic attractions for shopaholics over the years, is known for its gorgeous architecture that looks more like a palace than anything else.

Entering through its massive golden doors, you’ll be surprised to find an extensive shopping center with more than 100 luxury and world-renowned brands of clothing and accessories for men, women, and youngsters.

Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, stop into the Gastronom №1 for a bite to eat or take a stroll through its corridors to appreciate the building’s history and beauty.

14 – Visit Lenin’s Mausoleum | Red Square

Lenin's Mausoleum, Moscow

Another iconic Red Square attraction is Lenin’s Mausoleum, a small yet foreboding building that houses the embalmed corpse of Communist leader Vladimir Lenin (who led Russia through the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917).

Opened in 1930 after his death and standing at more than 12 meters tall, it presents as both a unique and macabre site — and, considering the life-like nature of the body, certainly isn’t for the faint of heart.

Note: Entrance is free of charge, but expect to be searched by security before being allowed in.

15 – Ride the Moscow Metro, enjoying the beautiful stations along the way

Moscow Metro, Russia

As we leave the Red Square, the next cab off the rank is Moscow’s unbelievable artistic Metro network (rivaled only in beauty by that of Stockholm). Constructed between the 1930s and 1950s, its stations were built by hand with a wide range of artistic themes — from socialist realist to Slavic pagan.

Tips: The best way to experience them is as part of a Moscow Metro tour, which can be booked online. However, if you prefer exploring solo, then make sure to visit the Mayakovskaya Metro Station which is known for its seemingly endless archways.

You may also check out Dostoyevskaya, named after a famous writer with murals depicting his stories. The Ploshchad Revolutsii Metro Station is another option where a handful of Socialist statues provide a wonderful contrast to the red marble arches.
