Lotus Spa: What You Need to Know About Princess Cruises' Spa

princess cruise massage cost

Lotus Spa is the place to go for relaxation and pampering onboard all Princess cruise ships . The spa facilities are operated by One Spa World , a wholly owned subsidiary of Steiner Leisure Limited, a Bahamas-based company. While not every ship is identical, the spa complex encompasses separate changing areas and spa treatment rooms for massages, acupuncture, facials and the like.

Also available are a full-service salon for hair and nails, teeth whitening and men's shaves as well as a fitness facility that offers cardio and weight equipment, for-fee group exercise classes and personal training sessions.

The thermal suite within the Lotus Spa includes a pool, a sauna and steam room area. Select spa services are also available within The Sanctuary , a for-fee secluded cabana deck area on some Princess ships.

Lotus Spa on Princess Cruises: Services and Costs

princess cruise massage cost

At the Lotus Spa, Princess' prices fluctuate based on treatment type and length. There are discounts offered for multiple treatments booked at the same time, as well as for treatments on sea days .

There are also several packages featured throughout each sailing that bundle a variety of treatments into one chunk of time for a lower price. A gratuity of 18 percent is automatically added to all spa and salon services. Don’t expect prices to vary much between destinations. Your spa bill will be the same whether you’re cruising in the Mediterranean , the Caribbean or the far reaches of the South Pacific .

Spa treatment prices begin under $200 (including the gratuity) for a 50-minute Swedish, aroma stone, bamboo or deep tissue massage. The longer you want your massage or the more exotic, the higher the price climbs. The charge for most massage therapies tops out just over $300 for the longest sessions. Couples’ massages are available, with prices ranging between $300 and $400.

Acupuncture consultations are free, but treatment sessions begin under $200.

Pricing on beauty treatments like salt cleansing scrubs, cellulite reduction therapy and facials ranges from $150 to over $300 per session. Lotus Spa also offers Medi-Spa aesthetic treatments that include fillers and skin tightening treatments that are priced by consultation.

Group fitness classes are $20 per session, and personal training or nutritional consultations are around $100.

In the salon, a simple shampoo and blowout will cost over $50. Add a cut and the price nears the $100 point. If you’re looking for an updo for formal night on the ship, expect to pay around $80. The salon also offers more elaborate services like perms, highlights and permanent color. Nail services range from repairing a broken nail to a 105-minute fire and ice mani-pedi combos that will set you back almost $150.

Men’s cut and style is priced under $50. Add a shave and a pro-collagen grooming treatment for a total of around $150. And don’t forget your eyebrows during your spa day on board. Brow treatments begin at $30.

What Princess Cruise Ships Have Lotus Spa?

The Lotus Spa can be found on all ships in the Princess fleet. Older ships, like Grand Princess or Ruby Princess , have the spa positioned on an upper deck but look for Lotus Spa on newer ships, like Regal Princess or Discovery Princess , on Deck 5.

What is the current Lotus Spa prices?  I know they may change between now and then but I need

to do some budget and schedule planning.

Some are posted on the PCL website but not all.

What is a couples 60 minutes (or whatever time they allot)?

With or without hot stone?

Does it vary by type? Swedish vs Shiatsu vs Turkish Jack Hammer?

Just some examples of what my wife and I treat each other with for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas

becasue we enjoy it.

In looking in my app for my sailing, a Couple massage is:

Deep tissue $247 on embarkation and then is either $263 or $280 depending on the port for 50 minutes

75 minutes starts at $299 and 100 minutes at $463

Aroma Stone Massage 50 minutes starts at $247

75 minutes starts at $299

100 minutes starts at $463

Bamboo has then same pricing as Aroma Stone

Thank you. They are not showing up on mine yet, Maybe too far out. But that works for the budgeting exercise.

DH and I were quoted $350 on embarkation day for a 50 minute couples deep-tissue massage on Sky Princess last week (for the treatment to be booked for a port day). We didn’t go ahead with the booking so I’m not sure if the $350 included the 18% grat or if that would have been added on top.

Princess Spa: All About “The Enclave” at Lotus Spa on Majestic Princess

' src=

The Enclave is the exclusive area of The Lotus Spa aboard many Princess cruise ships. It’s a wonderful thermal suite area of the spa that was built for guests who add it to their cruise to enjoy for hours and, most typically, for more than one day during their sailing.

If you’re interested in booking The Enclave, be sure to book your Princess Cruises sailing first, then add it on after.

All opinions are our own, as always.

Princess Cruises: All about The Enclave Thermal Suite, with a photo of the blue thermal pool beneath the text.

Location of The Enclave

We visited The Enclave when we sailed a wonderful California coast itinerary on Majestic Princess, where it is on Deck 5. It’s past the entrance to The Lotus Spa. You need to either have a cruise pass to The Enclave or a day pass to access this area.

The thermal suite exists on many of the Princess Cruises ships but not all. Here’s where you’ll find one:

  • Royal Princess
  • Regal Princess
  • Majestic Princess
  • Sky Princess
  • Enchanted Princess
  • Discovery Princess

If you aren’t convinced yet to sign up for a pass to The Enclave at your Princess spa when you embark on your cruise, be sure to take a tour of the space on embarkation day. You can easily see inside The Enclave then and decide if you want to sign up for the experience during your sailing if you haven’t already done so.

Checking into The Enclave

Check-in is at the spa’s front desk, where you would check in for a massage or any other treatment at Lotus Spa. Upon check-in, you are handed a magnetic key to access a locker and change into sandals provided by the spa. You’re also given a plastic key (like a hotel room key) to access The Enclave, which is behind locked doors.

Amenities Inside Majestic Princess The Enclave

The Enclave is a haven for hydrotherapy and spa enthusiasts.

After you change into a robe and spa sandals in the locker room, you walk a few steps over to access The Enclave with the key they provided. You wear a bathing suit into The Enclave and can wear the robe they provide over it if you like.

When you walk inside the area where The Enclave is, a choice of self-service cold water (plain or cucumber/citrus-infused) and mini-refrigerators with small cold towels inside greet you. (These towels were very welcomed after a few hours at The Enclave, especially the saunas.)

You then walk down a pleasing corridor filled with silk flowers to the “The Enclave” space on Majestic Princess. The centerpiece of the thermal suite is its small pool. Surrounding the pool are heated tile lounge chairs. There are four lounge chairs on either side and four additional chairs in an elevated area.

The rest of The Enclave consists of three spa rooms and four standing spa showers.

There are also hooks on the walls, which were great for hanging up a robe or towel while enjoying the amenities.

Hydrotherapy Pool Features

A small pool area inside fills most of the main space, with a tile floor surrounding it, with the tile chairs bordering that walkway.

The pool is only about three feet deep or so – I’m only 5’1″, and I could stand in it and walk through the water from the stairs over to the water bed bench without getting my hair wet (which was pulled up in a hair clip).

The main pool has:

  • One large, square European showerhead on top of the ceiling
  • Two massage “chairs” (the semi-circle seats in the photo below, on either side of the pool)
  • One long water bed bench that runs along the length of the back wall, with massaging bubbles underneath
  • Two showerheads by the entrance steps to the pool that shoot high-pressure water to massage your body

Four buttons around the pool control the massage bubbles and showerheads, which are all on a timer.

Though we’re unsure what the exact pool temperature is, it was a nice warm temperature, not hot.

Spa Rooms in The Enclave Spa Area on Majestic Princess

Three heated rooms are a highlight of this area of Lotus Spa. There isn’t a clock inside each spa room but there is a clock near The Enclave pool if you don’t have a watch on. You won’t be totally clueless as to the time you’ve been inside one of the steam rooms if you peek outside at the clock.

(It’s not advised to wear any wristwatch in any of the treatment areas, including “waterproof” watches, because the heat can easily affect a waterproof watch seal.)

Hamman, a Turkish-Inspired Steam Bath Room

The Hamman has tiled seating inside with two sinks for cold water. The temperature is kept between 104 to 122ºF and the recommended time inside is ten minutes, max.

In addition to the row of white-tiled seating that creates a bench in the Hamman, there is a large rectangular black-tiled seating area (it reminded me of a tiled bed). Beside it is a showerhead that dispenses cold water. Hot rocks are on top of a square tiled column, and “stars” (which is lighting, not the actual sky) twinkle overhead.

Enjoying the tiled seating without placing a towel between you and the hot tiles is nearly impossible because of the heat. There are, of course, plenty of towels to use in The Enclave.

Caldarium, Roman Inspired Steam Room

This was a favorite feature of The Enclave. The room is filled with an aroma that smells like beautiful cedar, and the seven chairs inside with flat, round tiled tops were like oversized spa mushrooms in a steam room fantasy.

Two cistern-like tiled vessels were in the center of the room with hot rocks on top (that you dare not touch).

One of the best features was the three showerheads placed around the caldarium, all dispensing cold water. (This is incredibly welcome when you’re in a room between 104-122ºF for up to 10 minutes.)

Laconia, Roman-Inspired Heated Dry Chamber

This spa room is closest to what you would consider a dry sauna. You can detox in here for 10 minutes, max, inside the 122-140ºF room. (We couldn’t even tolerate one minute inside, it was so hot.)

Infused aromas inside are subtle yet help you relax. Hot rocks are guarded by glass walls along one row of seating opposite the entry door. There are three showerheads inside the hot chamber so guests can access cold water while enjoying the Laconia.

The seating inside can accommodate eight people, but we didn’t see more than one additional person there during the nearly two hours we enjoyed The Enclave in the Princess spa.

Heated Tile Lounge Chairs

Twelve heated lounge chairs are around the Princess spa’s Enclave. There is a table between every two chairs so you can place water or anything else you may have brought with you on them, like a book or waterproof Kindle .

It’s best to take two towels over to a heated chair when you use it, not just one. You will need one towel to place underneath your body, between your skin/swimsuit and the tile, and another under your head/neck to use as a pillow. (The tiled lounge chairs are warm and inviting, yet not cushiony and comfy as a lounge chair by a pool may be.)

princess cruise massage cost

Spa Showers Inside The Enclave

Four standing showers provide rejuvenation after time in the hydrotherapy pool or any of the sauna or steam rooms in the Princess Spa.

The Enclave showers options are:

  • Tropical : hot at 100ºF with a pleasant aroma
  • Cool Mist : at 68ºF it provides a nice refresh
  • Rain : a subtle and energizing aroma fills the shower, whose water is kept at 90ºF
  • Siberian : a cloud of mist bursts then a 68ºF shower follows

What Does The Enclave Cost?

The price to access The Enclave is always less money if you book it pre-cruise. However, you can still book it during the cruise if you want to add it.

Pre-Cruise Prices at The Enclave on Majestic Princess Spa

An Enclave pass for one person for a 7-day cruise is $139 pre-cruise. This works out to be just under $20 per day for seven days.

Princess Cruises no longer sells couples Thermal Suite or Enclave passes; they are only sold for per person.

The Princess MedallionClass app does not have spa offerings fully integrated into the app yet. Instead, there is a link that takes guests to the Cruise Personalizer to book.

The Enclave Price and Options During Your Princess Cruise

A 7-day pass for The Enclave that you book onboard the ship is $179 for one person. This works out to be just under $26 per person per day.

Princess Cruises no longer offers a couple’s pass.

Give The Enclave as a Gift

If you need a gift idea for someone going on your cruise with you or someone going on a cruise, covering the cost of some spa time will certainly be appreciated! Even if you can’t give them a Princess Cruises gift card, you can give them a Visa or American Express gift card, for example, that will cover the cost of this amenity.

Booking Before or During Your Cruise

You save $40 if you purchase a pass before your cruise starts.

When you book a day at The Enclave, you’re either buying a day pass or a pass for the length of the cruise. You have unlimited in and out privileges to The Enclave throughout the day, even if you have a day pass.

A day pass is possible to buy, but the availability is often dependent on how many people have signed up for passes for the length of the cruise. If they are available for a 7-day cruise, day passes are $49/day during port days.

The Enclave can accommodate approximately 20 to 25 people. (When we were there, we only encountered a few other people who were using the spa. At the lowest point, it was just another person. During the “busiest” point it was five other people. We should also say, however, that our cruise was less than two-thirds full so that may have been why there were hardly any other people there as well. We’re not sure!)

There is certainly room enough for everyone who wants to be at this Princess spa amenity as long as everyone is spread out and trying different things.

Who Will Enjoy The Enclave

Some guests may love this Princess spa amenity and some may not. It all depends on what you enjoy.

Who is The Enclave Ideal for?

The Enclave at Princess’s Lotus Spa is a wonderful, exclusive experience. It’s for guests who want something beyond a massage and want to stay at Lotus Spa for hours.

It’s also great for guests who may not want a massage or facial (or the treatments are beyond their budget) but still want a spa experience.

Guests who want to extend their spa experience beyond one day or one treatment may really enjoy a pass to The Enclave for the duration of their cruise.

If you’ve sailed with Princess before or have sailed multiple times on the same ship, you may find that adding a pass to The Enclave to your trip results in a fun new experience.

It’s also a relaxing activity for guests who aren’t getting off the ship in port.

Who is the Enclave Thermal Suite Not Ideal for?

The Enclave is not for people who don’t like saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs. Pregnant women are advised against visiting The Enclave because of its extreme heat.

It’s also not great for big groups of people. The Enclave is best-enjoyed solo, as a couple, or perhaps with a group of three to four friends.

One of the four outdoor hot tubs in the pool area and the outdoor pools are better suited for big groups. You will find this area on Deck 16, or in the Hollywood Pool area on Deck 16.

Other Good to Know Info about The Enclave

The Enclave is a medium-sized thermal suite area. It can feel a little crowded when five to ten people start to use it. (You’re looking for a relaxed, uncrowded, exclusive spa experience, after all.)

Because of this, we recommend going when most people are getting off the ship during port days. If you go during days at sea, try going early in the morning or late at night before the Princess spa closes. (Most days, Lotus Spa was open late, until 10:00pm.)

Beyond Princess Cruises “The Enclave” at Lotus Spa

We both indulged in massages and had the most amazing hot Bamboo massage for 75 minutes! If you are on Majestic Princess and love a massage with a lot of pressure, this is for you. Our massage therapist shared that the pressure of a bamboo massage is five times that of a hot stone massage. (Be sure to ask for Jajo. She was awesome!)

How deep is the Enclave pool

It’s not very deep – I would say around three feet or less.

What is Enclave pool Temperature

Hi Mary – we’re not sure the exact temperature of the Enclave pool. It was warm but not hot. Hope that helps!

Hello, we aren’t able to buy our 7 day pass for a couple. Waited on line over 45 mins😫

Hi Lydia – we recommend calling Princess Cruises for help. We’re writers who have reviewed the cruise line and its experiences but we cannot help you book passes. – Mikkel + Dan

How did you book in advance? I’ve called Princess and talked to 3 different people who told me it wasn’t available until I’m on the ship.

Hi Laurie – Princess Cruises Spa and Enclave bookings can be made pre-cruise in the Cruise Personalizer up to 5 days before your sail date as long as you’re paid in full (you can’t reserve until then). Or spa reservations can be made onboard based on availability. We hope that helps! – Mikkel + Dan

Hello. My wife and I are contemplating using the Encalve for our upcoming cruise. Quick question. Are there separate mens/womens changing rooms, or do we need to be in our swimwear garb beforehand?

Hi John – Great question. Yes, there are separate changing/locker rooms for men and women at the spa! Hope that helps. – Mikkel + Dan

My Wife and I just got back from an Alaskan Inside Passage cruise onboard Discovery Princess. The Enclave was definitely once of the best highlights of this wondrous adventure. We did the 7-day Enclave pass, and a couples massage. Bia was my massage therapist and gave me one of the absolute best massages I’ve ever had. In my Top-5. She was expertly professional. I really had planned to get another treatment but time was against me there. I went to the Enclave Spa every day and really got every bit of my money’s worth for the 7-day pass. This will forever influence my future cruise plans in a very positive way.

That’s such great news, Scott! What massage did you get?

Hello, I see several people asked how you booked the Enclave pass pre-cruise. We have paid our cruise in full and we are move than 10 days away from our trip, but the app only lets me book the 7-day pass for one guest. I want the couple price. I called Princess’ customer service, and the Navigator told me I would have to book it on the ship AT THE HIGHER PRICE. I know you’re just relaying information, and I’m grateful for what you’ve shared, but if you or any of your readers have come up with a solution to booking the Enclave pass for a couple before embarkation, that would be so wonderful!

Hi Tracie! Your comment was very thoughtful and understand – it’s a frustrating situation for us too. But we have reached out to Princess about this (again) and we’ll let you know if/when they reply. Hopefully it’s a solution that works!

Tracie – have you tried to make the reservation for the Spa and Enclave on the Cruise Personalizer, not on the app?

If I can’t make my Spa appointment, can my wife use it? I have two free appointments that were included in our booking. My wife has two also, but she needs them more than I do.

Hi Ron! Do you mean can she take the booking time slot or do you mean is the name transferrable? We’d have to know the details of how you got the free spa appointments – like if it’s part of the cruise deal when you signed up, a gift card, etc. to help with an answer.

I’ll be cruising again next Jan 07th. there will be a Regal Princess which has also the enclave onboard. My concern is about the couples’ reservation and pricing before the cruise starts. I want to take advantage of the promotion you wrote above. Do you have any return from Princess about how to buy the couples pass before the cruise starts ? Thanks for your post, it was very useful! Best regards, Rubens and Rayana

Thanks for your question! The answer to that is that they no longer offer couples passes. We have updated the post to reflect that. The only passes offered now are per-person passes. So glad we could get that answered for you and that you have found our post to be very useful. We appreciate your question and comment. Have an awesome cruise in a few weeks! – Dan + Mikkel

A Rainy Day Turned Blissful: Our Lotus Spa Couples Massage on the Discovery Princess

Lotus Spa sign aboard the Discovery Princess

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. This helps support what we do and in no way costs you a thing.

Our 30th wedding anniversary voyage aboard the Discovery Princess Cruise Ship had been a fantastic adventure blended with a travel writer’s conference – making it a West Coast visit of a lifetime. We were spending a few days in British Columbia, taking the cruise, stopping for fun at a few ports to experience the hospitality of a few amazing communities, and ending up in Palm Springs before heading back home.

A Rainy Day Turned Blissful: Our Lotus Spa Couples Massage on the Discovery Princess

I know – I have the best job ever and was tickled that we could arrange our calendars to allow for Mr. Cheesehead to join me this time. We may have added a few things that I normally wouldn’t have when I travel solo.

Our Ziplining Adventure got a Rain Check

As we docked in Victoria and felt the cool drizzle slowly turning into a full-blown rainstorm, our plans for a thrilling ziplining excursion began to look more like a soggy mess. We barely made it off the ship and to the first gift shop before throwing in the towel (literally) and deciding to retreat.

But don’t worry, folks – this story has a happy twist! Our wet and bedraggled selves stumbled upon a glimmer of hope at the spa desk. With some luck, they were able to squeeze us in for a couples massage that very afternoon. Talk about a silver lining on a raincloud!

A Rainy Day Detour: From Ziplining to Relaxing Massages

We headed back to our cabin, put on dry clothes, and grabbed a quick lunch. I know my husband had only had one real massage in his life, and it hadn’t been a great experience. God bless him for going along with my kind of crazy and being a willing participant.

I Had Done a Little Spa Research

When I originally planned to incorporate a spa treatment, I was surprised at what I learned. Named “Best Spa on a Cruise Ship” by Spafinder Wellness 365™, the Lotus Spa offers a variety of treatments to suit your needs. Whether you want to indulge in a facial, a massage, or a detoxifying wrap, the experienced therapists will help you feel your best.

Doesn’t that all sound cool? I was hooked and kind of excited that we would be able to check it out for ourselves! I knew we were going to be “ taking the waters ” at an incredible spa in Palm Springs in roughly another week and hoped this experience would prime Mr. Cheesehead for excessive relaxation. ( Um, if that isn’t a thing, it should be! )

What Kind of Massage to Pick?

I held all kinds of sadness that my amazing man had only had one real massage experience in his six decades on this earth. And yes, he is much older than me – I am the young trophy wife. (hush!)

So, his one complaint from that time was it hurt more than relaxed him. Most guys have a difficult time talking about what they do or don’t like – it may get a tad weird with some stranger touching their body. That leaves interpretation up to us ladies. (sigh)

So, the Lotus Spa offers a variety of massage therapies. From hot stone massages to Swedish massages, there’s a massage therapy that’s perfect for everyone. We went with the Couple’s Massage but had to narrow down what TYPE we wanted. Here are some of the massage therapies you can choose from:

  • Swedish Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Aroma Stone Therapy Massage
  • Hot Stone Massage

I think the Deep Tissue was his other experience so that was out. While I love hot rocks? He probably would have found them a tad too hot – and uncomfortable. Smelly stuff? That is usually a no-go for me as I get migraines. Synthetic scents can flip me over the edge.

Swedish Massage it was to be then, but I kind of feel that no matter which treatment you choose, you’ll leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Just narrow it down like we did.

Pretty touches everywhere

And So it Started

As we arrived at the Lotus Spa, seemingly still shaking off raindrops, we couldn’t help but feel like we’d stumbled onto something wonderful. We were handed those quirky blue wristbands, shuffled into our respective changing rooms, and anxiously looked forward to reuniting in the “comfort room.”

I knew he was a little apprehensive and wanted to hustle myself to that comfort room ASAP and guide him through it all.

In my changing room, I found a robe waiting for me in a locker that my little blue wristband would lock for me. If you followed my spa experiences, you remember my apprehension at the sizing of robes. I wrote Silent Suffering after something that happened on a visit to Texas.

A little unsure about the robe size, and not wanting to find out it was too small after trying it on, I decided to ask the attendant if they had any plus-sized robes. Her response? A heartwarming and unexpected compliment, which made me smile from ear to ear.

“Sweetie, you certainly don’t need a plus-sized robe.” With newfound confidence, I slipped into the robe, only to discover it was roomier than I’d imagined. Sweet surprise, indeed! She was correct.

The Comfort Room at the Lotus SpaThe Comfort Room at the Lotus Spa

Reunited and it Feels So Good

Finally, my husband and I rendezvoused in the comfort room, where he was already filling out consultation forms. I grabbed him a glass of lemon-infused water like a pro and sat next to him to fill out my own set of forms. Our Thai masseuses soon arrived and guided us to our room.

They each took one of us and reviewed our answers. I was impressed at how she would question something, feel my back or arm, and then ask a question or two. Surprise – surprise, she could tell I was a writer who may or may not spend a little too much time on my laptop! The next thing we knew – they left us to disrobe and get comfy on our massage tables.

Table Comfort and Expertise: Setting the Stage for Bliss

Now, let’s talk about those tables – sturdy, wide enough so you didn’t feel like you were about to take a tumble, and incredibly comfortable. I would realize down that they were also hydraulic ( or something like that – I was too blissed out to know for sure ) as I was lowered a bit to accommodate her height some time during the face-down section of the treatment.

As the soothing music began, the warm wet towels found their place on the bottom of our feet, and our massage experience took flight. It was like our cares were floating away on the notes of a melody.

The pièce de résistance? Aromatherapy-laden towels under our faces, urging us to take three deep, slow breaths. It was just enough scent to relax without overpowering. Then came the gentle dry brushing, a sensation that I can only describe wow. I have never had that at a massage before Keep in mind that I get about two massages a month, for the last 30 or so years.. so it was a first in like 700 plus massages.

And honestly, that’s where my memory fades into 75 minutes of sheer relaxation and happiness.

The Couples Massage Room

They Were Just Getting Warmed Up

With unique techniques and warm oils, the occasional sigh of contentment from my husband, and a sense of tranquility enveloping us, our massage was nothing short of divine. As the soft music played on, the gentle hum of the engines of the ship as they engaged to take us back out to sea, I recall a few stroke techniques that I had never felt before.

At the end of our time, we were both face-up and had our hands placed in each other’s, to the tune of a small chime. This, sadly, marked the end of our celestial journey.

Final Thoughts

In the end, our spa experience turned out to be one of the highlights of our cruise, surpassing even the ziplining adventure we had initially planned. ( And I love to zipline! ) While Victoria was rainy and cold outside, we emerged from that spa warm, relaxed, and rejuvenated, ready to continue celebrating our 30th anniversary in style.

Here’s to the unexpected twists that make life’s adventures all the more memorable, and to the Lotus Spa for turning a rainy day into an unforgettable anniversary treat.

Policies and Guidelines

Let’s get down to the details! When visiting the spa aboard the Discovery Princess, there are a few policies and guidelines to keep in mind to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Age Restrictions

Guests must be at least 18 years old to use the spa facilities, with the exception of the salon services, which are available to guests 16 years and older when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Robes, slippers, and towels are provided for guests to wear during their spa treatments. However, it is recommended that guests wear comfortable clothing and shoes when visiting the spa, as they may need to walk through public areas of the ship to get to the spa.

Reservations

It is recommended that guests make reservations for spa treatments as soon as possible, as appointments tend to fill up quickly. Guests can make reservations online through the Medallion APP or by visiting the Lotus Spa once onboard the ship.

–>Book EARLY if you want your choice of timing. I had given up on this idea before our cruise had even left port as I knew our schedule was ending up pretty full.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your spa appointment, it is recommended that you do so at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not show up for your appointment, you may be charged the full price of the treatment. Let’s face it, that is just plain considerate. These people make tips – and lose out on income when someone is a thoughtless no-show.

By following these policies and guidelines, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable spa experience aboard the Discovery Princess.

Cruise Ship Spa Guide: Everything to Know (Prices, Treatments & More)

While you likely think of it only as a cruise ship, it’s more accurate to think of the vessel you are sailing as a complete resort at sea. After all, there are not only cabins, but pools, theaters, casino, restaurants, bars, and yes, even a spa.

Sign for a cruise ship's spa

In fact, the spa might be one of the most underrated spots on the ship. On an average cruise, only a small percentage of passengers visit and receive a treatment. Of course, this could be due to the fact that spa treatments cost extra and in many cases they are fairly pricey.

But it could also be that it’s a bit of a mystery on the ship. Spas are usually tucked away at one end with a front desk that makes it feel off limits if you don’t have a reservation. If you want to know more about this part of a cruise, we’ve covered a number of the ins and outs below.

Introduction to Cruise Ship Spas

First things first, if you’re sailing on a major cruise ship, then you can rest assured that it will have a spa. Often they are at one end of the ship and feel completely separate from the rest of the vessel. The design is usually bright and airy with a calming atmosphere (often with soft music and even different smells than the rest of the ship).

Past the front desk, you’ll find all the amenities of a traditional spa. There are treatment rooms for everything from massages to hair treatments. There are relaxation rooms for before or after your service. Showers and dressing rooms are here. There is also a day use area that generally features heated loungers, spa, specialty showers, and sauna spaces. Some spas even feature more rooms like a salt room (supposed to help with breathing) and a cold room (improved circulation).

As mentioned, most access is fee-based. So if you want a massage, then you’ll have to pay up. The fitness center, dressing room, and traditional showers are open to all passengers who can use them freely.

What Services Are Available?

princess cruise massage cost

When it comes to what treatments you can get on the ship, it might be easier to just name what you can’t have done.

That’s just to say there are a lot of options. Massages? There’s deep tissue, Swedish, bamboo and more. Manicures and pedicures? Of course. Hair styling, haircuts, couples treatments. There’s a wide range of what you can do. Here’s a list from just one Royal Caribbean cruise:

  • Swedish massage
  • Aroma stone therapy
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Seaweed massage
  • Bamboo massage
  • Cellulite reduction
  • Body composition analysis
  • Personal training
  • Nutritional consult
  • Manicure/pedicure
  • Haircut/style
  • Teeth whitening

As you can tell, the cruise ship spa isn’t just a place to get a massage or a nail salon. It’s full service with lots of options to choose from… and then some.

How Much Does a Treatment Cost at the Spa?

As you might expect, the price of the service at the spa will vary depending on what you get. A two-hour couples massage is going to cost more than a manicure.

In general, however, prices are at a premium on the ship compared to many places on land and on par with land-based resorts. You can expect an hour-long massage to start at about $100-$150. A mani/pedi will run between $50-$100. A woman’s haircut will be about the same.

To give you an idea, here is a list of spa treatments from one cruise line. Keep in mind that prices will vary by line and the specific treatment, but this gives a good idea of the sort of prices to expect.

Royal Caribbean spa prices

Just know that treatments on the cruise ship are not what most people consider cheap.

Are Day Passes Available?

Heated lounge beds in a cruise ship spa

One thing that doesn’t seem to be advertised on cruises is that you can purchase day passes for spa entry. We find these relatively affordable, often available for less than $50 per person.

With the day pass, you get access to the spa facilities. This will include hot tubs, specialty showers, heated loungers, sauna, and more.

If you want to relax for more than just what comes with a service or just want to enjoy some relaxation time without spending a bundle, then we’d suggest it. You can simply head down to the spa to ask about the passes.

What Hours Is the Spa Open?

Whether you like to relax in the morning, have a mid-day treatment, or take it easy in the evening, the spa will be waiting for you.

Spa hours are rather lengthy, running typically from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

In other words, almost no matter the time it should be open.

Gratuities and the Cruise Spa

Anyone that’s taken a cruise knows that gratuities are common. There are daily gratuity charges for things like the room steward and restaurant staff. Then if you get a drink from the bar, a gratuity is tacked on top of the menu price.

It’s a similar situation for spa services. If you are receiving a treatment, then there is the list price of the service. So say a massage is $129. But on top of that, you’ll have an automatic gratuity charge that’s included. This is normally 18-20% of the cost, depending on the cruise line’s policy.

In other words, the “out the door” price on a $129 treatment would actually be closer to $155, depending on your cruise line’s gratuity charge.

How to Book Treatments/Services in the Spa

If you want to book a massage, manicure, haircut or other service, you have a few options. First, if you have a specific time that you want to go, then we’d suggest booking as soon as possible. Some of the most popular times can fill up.

But how do you actually book?

The easiest way is to set something up via your online account or the cruise line app before you board. Online or through the app, you can scroll through all the options available, see prices, and available times. Reserving your spot is as simple as a few clicks.

Conversely, you can also wait until you are on the ship and just head down to the spa. There, you can speak with the staff to learn about your options, prices, and book a service.

Tours Are Available if You Want to See Before You Book

princess cruise massage cost

Not sure if you want a treatment or just want a better idea of what to expect in the spa? It can be helpful to get a look at everything before you decide.

During the first day of the cruise, there are usually open hours where the spa is wide open to meet passengers, share information about treatments, and provide tours of the facility. There’s no charge or obligation.

In fact, you can stop by at any time throughout the trip and request to have a look around. The staff — assuming they are available — will lead you around to show you the entire spa. It’s a good way to get a feel for the place if you’re on the fence about booking.

Are There Discounts or Deals for Services?

Want to save a little money? There are a few ways that you can get spa treatments for less. First of all, many cruise lines offer discounts for booking ahead of the cruise. This can often save you 5-10% off the onboard prices.

Next, there are sometimes sales or special offers while on the ship. Simply look at the daily planner for mention of the offer.

Finally, some lines also offer lower prices on spa treatments if booked at certain times or days. For instance, there may be lower prices for treatments that happen on the day of boarding (when many passengers aren’t thinking about the spa) and higher prices during a day at sea when there is more demand.

Itineraries

Specialty tours & events, drift away: relax and renew in “discover princess'” lotus spa.

by Patricia Vanikiotis

© Princess Cruises

January/February 2023

Ever wonder what could be more relaxing than a cruise at sea? I found the answer when I embarked on the inaugural sailing of Princess Cruises’ brand-new Medallion Class Discovery Princess . An indulgent massage and hours spent in the Enclave, the onboard spa’s thermal suite, brought both my mind and body to a state of blissful contentment, the ideal complement to active days in port.

To counteract the stresses and strains of travel, I booked a massage at Lotus Spa on the first full day of our seven-day Mexico cruise from Los Angeles. After I checked in at the front desk, just off the three-story Piazza on Deck 5, I was escorted to the women’s changing room, where I was given a wristband device to access my locker. There I found a thick, plush robe and plastic sandals. After changing, I spent a few minutes in the relaxation lounge, mesmerized by the blue waters of the Pacific rolling by just a deck below where I sat.

Caladium

My massage therapist, Then, greeted me, and we began our journey to the treatment room … one of 21 in this expansive complex. Slate, tile and marble floors; soft, indirect lighting; and soothing, muted tones of brown, gray and cream dominate the modern, elegant décor. The lotus flower motif appears in mosaic tile floor medallions where corridors intersect, on etched glass panels and in monochromatic watercolor paintings. Legend has it the lotus has magical healing powers, and it symbolizes strength and rebirth — a perfect motif for the cruise line whose motto is “Come back new.”

Once I’d gotten settled on the massage table, my therapist began my 75-minute aroma stone therapy treatment with a cactus bristle dry rub to exfoliate the skin. She proceeded to use lots of warm oils to massage my stiff shoulders and muscles and moisturize my winter-dry skin. She also worked pressure points on my feet and hands, releasing unconscious points of tension to leave me extraordinarily relaxed. I found it just a bit jarring, then, when the conclusion of my treatment was announced with a not-too-subtle gong, as opposed to the customary gently spoken word of farewell. Then she escorted me back to the relaxation room (which I doubt I could have found, left to my own devices!) to enjoy some light snacks and beverages. I certainly felt revitalized and ready to tackle new adventures ashore.

Later in the week I returned to Lotus Spa with my husband, this time to spend unstructured time in the Enclave, Princess’ thermal suite. Guests may purchase full-week or day passes to enjoy the large hydrotherapy pool and heated rooms and showers of varying temperatures. We received a special key card from the spa’s front desk to access the suite and changed into bathing suits and robes in our respective locker rooms before meeting at the entrance to the Enclave. Passing down a quiet corridor again adorned with lotus flowers, we found shelves of thick towels; glass-fronted coolers holding small, chilled towels; and stations offering citrus- and cucumber-infused waters.

Turkish Hammam

The pool itself, boasting underwater benches and numerous jets, fountains and showers set on timers, was surrounded by several seating options. There were alcoves where couples could recline as well as numerous heated ceramic-tiled loungers. After staking our spot on a couple of these body-melting couches, we spent the next few hours ranging between them, the pool and the different hot and cold features.

The hammam offered a Turkish-style steam bath with infused aromas to enhance well-being. The Roman-inspired Laconium (a heated dry chamber with infused aromas) is intended to help with detoxification and purification of the body and is set at a toasty 122 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. A warm, light-steam chamber, the Caldarium also features infused aromas and, like the hammam, hovers between 104 and 122 degrees. Relief from the heat came in the form of four different shower options, from the Siberian, an invigorating 68-degree mist with a refreshing aroma, to the 100-degree Tropical. Our pass permitted us to come and go from the Enclave throughout the entire day, but we found just one session left us as relaxed and soothed as we could wish.

We certainly only scratched the surface of Lotus Spa’s offerings. A full-time practitioner with a doctorate in Chinese medicine provides acupuncture treatments, cupping, herbal consultations and Eastern nutritional counseling. The salon offers a full menu of nail-, hair- and skin-care services and even teeth-whitening, while gentlemen can enjoy a classic shave; facial; and a face, scalp, arm and hand massage. In addition to massages, the spa treatments include wraps, scrubs and Elemis facials. There’s even a unique range of skin and body treatments just for kids and teens.

I was delighted to find this cruise, bookended as it was by two restorative experiences in Lotus Spa, provided the perfect recipe for relaxation and rejuvenation.

28 countries for $25K? Princess' World Cruise will offer 'more all-inclusive experience'

princess cruise massage cost

On Princess Cruises’ 2026 world cruise, the line will one-up itself.

The 114-day sailing will visit 52 ports, the most destinations for any of the line’s world cruises.

Terry Thornton, the line’s chief commercial officer said the voyage “addresses a growing interest in longer voyages that make stops at more exotic destinations, and the urge to do it as part of a more all-inclusive experience,” according to a news release .

“Our 2026 World Cruise offers our most destination-rich itinerary ever so guests can immerse themselves in a global experience rich with landmarks, ancient ruins, unique landscapes, wildlife, gastronomy, cultures and heritage,” he added.

What is a world cruise? It's not a 'shoot-from-the-hip decision'

When is Princess’ 2026 world cruise?

The cruise will sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Jan. 5, 2026, on the line’s 2,000-guest Coral Princess ship.

Guests can also opt to sail round-trip from Los Angeles on Jan. 21 instead.

Where will the cruise go?

Guests will sail to 28 countries on six continents, and the stops will give passengers access to 45 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The itinerary also features late departures from more than a dozen ports, including Honolulu, Hawaii, Singapore, and Sydney, Australia. Guests will also stay overnight in Hong Kong.

The cruise will include the line's first-ever stop in Boracay, an island in the Philippines, and Coral Princess will make new world cruise calls to Puerto Chiapas, Mexico and Ponta Delgada in Portugal’s Azores Islands . Guests can enjoy destination-specific programming on board, such as themed deck and sail-away parties, lectures on Mediterranean history and art, World War II and more.

How much does the cruise cost?

The round-trip Fort Lauderdale departure currently starts at $25,214 per person based on double occupancy, while the Los Angeles option starts at $24,004, according to the line’s website .

Guests who book by Oct. 31, 2024, will get a complimentary Princess Premier package that includes Wi-Fi, premium alcoholic drinks, specialty coffee and more; $500 in onboard credit each for two passengers; and transfers from local airports, among other perks.

Princess Cruises is taking a page out of the ultra-luxury cruise industry with new all-inclusive, $3,000 cabins

Princess Cruises says its new Sun Princess and upcoming Star Princess will have all-inclusive cabins.

Guests who've booked the new Sanctuary Collection category would get an inclusive package and private lounge.

It's a move that could appeal to ultra-luxury cruisers .

If you want to go on an all-inclusive vacation at sea, you no longer need to book an ultra-luxury, ultra-expensive cruise line .

Just sail on Princess Cruises' new ship instead.

In October, Princess says its two-month-old Sun Princess will debut in the US with the company's first-ever Sanctuary Collection, an adult-only lounge exclusive to guests who've booked one of the collection's high-end cabins. These luxurious accommodations comprise 10% of the ship's 2,157 staterooms, including all its suites.

But the Sanctuary's biggest perk arguably isn't the lounge's private pool and restaurant — it's the all-inclusiveness , a rarity among mass-market cruise lines.

It's the Carnival Corp. brand's latest appeal to ultra-luxury cruisers

Mass-market cruise lines like Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian typically follow the " budget airline " strategy: charge a cheap base fare and offer plenty of irresistible up-charged amenities (like specialty restaurants, as is the case of Sun Princess).

It's a stark contrast to the high-end cruise industry, where all-inclusivity is often considered the standard.

For example, luxury cruise line Explora Journey's fare includes alcoholic beverages, WiFi, and access to the spa — amenities that would typically cost extra on ships like Sun Princess. On Regent Seven Seas , all this, plus excursions, pre-cruise hotels, and roundtrip flights are also included in the cost to sail.

Over the last few years, Princess has begun following in these high-end cruise lines' foosteps.

In 2022, it launched Princess Premier, an optional inclusive package covering amenities like WiFi, drinks, some upcharged restaurants, and workout classes. It's the same package Sanctuary Collection guests would get, along with the private restaurant and adult-only lounge with cabanas, a pool, and private events.

The exclusive lounge concept is nothing new. Royal Caribbean's two largest cruise liners have a "neighborhood" exclusive to suite guests. The same applies to Norwegian, Celebrity, and MSC Cruises' vessels.

However, while these competing retreats offer perks like drink packages, WiFi, or private restaurants, none are as "inclusive" as Princess'.

In 2024, Sun Princess' Sanctuary cabins start at more than $3,000 per person for a weeklong Caribbean cruise in mid-December. To compare, the cheapest interior cabin for the same itinerary starts shy of $700 per person.

The cruise line says its next ship, Star Princess, which will debut in late September 2025, will also carry the Sanctuary Collection.

Following in the footsteps of high-end, all-inclusive cruise lines could be a wise decision for Princess. These luxury vacations at sea have become increasingly popular as travelers continue to spend big on their trips.

Like Princess, expedition cruise company HX recently shifted to an all-inclusive model as well.

Back on dry land, hotel giants like Hyatt and Marriott have also seen a boom in these "everything free" resorts .

Apparently, every vacationer — whether on water or solid ground — just wants one thing: stress-free poolside lounging with bottomless drinks.
