Bottom Line
The enormous and upscale Renaissance Sao Paulo has a lot going on: it’s a popular wedding venue, a massive convention and special-events center, and a high-rise hotel with three restaurants, outdoor pool, modern spa, huge fitness center, and even a 200-seat theater. All this, and the hotel offers fast access to Paulista Avenue. With so much going on, you’d think the rooms themselves may be an afterthought, but that’s certainly not the case. The hotel’s 444 rooms and suites are yet another highlight, each with spacious marble bathrooms, flat-screen LCD TVs, and city views. This business-traveler focused mega-hotel is much like the city of Sao Paulo itself: bustling, chic, and worldly. The major downsides are a small pool and some street noise from the road. Oyster Hotel Review
What’s the scene like at renaissance sao paulo hotel, a busy, cosmopolitan, and business-centric chain hotel in the heart of the city.
From the outside , the shiny red and silver Renaissance Sao Paulo towers 25 stories above head -- a formidable presence in the leafy Jardins neighborhood. Inside, the atmosphere is bustling and cosmopolitan, full of people in suits hurrying to or from meetings, bridal parties toasting, friend groups drinking and catching up, and sports fans cheering on games. The vibe is like Sao Paulo in miniature, with a tone that’s busy and chic.
The massive, modern lobby is decked out with lots of black marble, dark wood, fresh flowers and orchids, and contemporary furnishings, adding an air of formality to the business-centric hotel. In the front of the lobby, guests hang out around a chic bar and lounge area that serves coffee, cocktails, and sushi. There are plenty of chairs and tables available, providing ample space to meet or plug in a laptop. In the evenings, there is a reception featuring a different drink each night. Adding to the buzz is a live jazz band that plays several nights a week. By the elevator bank, a dramatic floral display changes regularly. In the back of the lobby, escalators lead down to three full floors of meeting and event space, a main attraction for the hotel’s largely corporate clientele. The Renaissance is part of the Marriott brand and it offers perks, like a private lounge and free Wi-Fi, for Marriott reward members.
Where is Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel Located?
Prime location a block from paulista avenue, a hub for shopping, dining, and transportation.
The hotel is centrally located just a block off of Paulista Avenue, Sao Paulo’s main thoroughfare, and hub for shopping, dining, and cultural activities. Set in the trendy Jardins neighborhood, the hotel is also walking distance from Oscar Freire Avenue, which is known for luxury shopping boutiques. It's less than a five-minute walk from the Consolacao Metro station, and it provides easy access to the city’s public transportation system. There are a plethora of restaurants and cafes nearby, and a major grocery store and a shopping mall are just a few blocks away. It's about a 40-minute drive to Sao Paulo International Airport.
What are the Rooms Like at Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel?
Modern rooms and suites feature spacious bathrooms -- many with panoramic views.
The massive hotel features 388 rooms and 56 suites, which include Deluxe Rooms (starting at 323 square feet), upgraded Club Level Rooms, and six different sprawling suites. Rooms of all levels include coffee/tea facilities, air-conditioning, and individual climate controls. Flat-screen LCD TVs feature satellite and premium channels like HBO, National Geographic, Animal Planet, and ESPN. Minibars are stocked with wine, beer, and coconut water (fees apply). King, queen, or double pillowtopped beds have plush featherbeds and duvets. All rooms have a sitting area with an arm chair and ottoman and writing desk with Eames-style chair.
The rooms are styled with contemporary decor in a neutral color palette accented by warm wood trim and occasional accents in deep red. Marble bathrooms are notably upscale; all are spacious with granite countertops, robes, a bidet, a walk-in shower, and a deep tub. A full set of amenities is provided, including bath salts. The suites also include whirlpool tubs and extra details like flip flops or a bathrooms scale. All rooms have big windows, and rooms on upper floors rooms feature panoramic views across the city. Despite soundproofed windows, it’s possible that some rooms will experience a bit of the city's infamous street noise. Connecting and wheelchair-accessible rooms are available. Wi-Fi is free for members of the Marriott rewards program, which is free to sign up for.
What Restaurants and Bars are at Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel?
Three restaurants and a sleek lobby bar.
Features are aimed primarily at business travelers, and the hotel is a popular spot for business lunches. Terraço Jardins is the main restaurant, featuring Brazilian and international fare for breakfast (not included in the rates), weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while dinner (Monday through Saturday) is served a la carte; favorite dishes include grilled octopus, heart of palm stew, and sandperch cooked in a handmade clay pot. Terraço Jardins occupies a bright, airy space with a large wall of windows that creates an atrium-like feel. Located next to the fitness center, Bytes is an all-day grab-and-go cafe featuring a healthy salad bar, sandwiches/wraps, fresh juices, and coffee and has a row of computers available to use. The Living Lounge Bar & Sushi off the lobby provides coffee, cocktails, and sushi in a chic, yet casual, atmosphere. Across from the sushi bar is the hotel's sleek lobby bar, open throughout the day and late into the night. Room service is available 24 hours. There is an evening reception in the lobby with a different drink featured each night.
What is the Spa Like at Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel?
Vast, modern wellness center with excellent facilities and treatments.
The spa was renovated in 2017 and is updated with a modern style, offering a sauna, steam room, large whirlpool tub set in an atrium, and a full set of spa services. There are 10 treatment rooms for facials, body treatments, immersion baths, and massages -- including Shiatsu, hot stone, and Ayurvedic. The spa sells an array of Brazilian products, like Vela candles (made in Sao Paulo), Amazonian passion fruit oil, Simple Organic skin-care products, and Fenix incense.
The bright, 24-hour fitness center -- nearly 2,700 square feet and said to be one of the largest in Latin America -- is furnished with a variety of LifeFitness equipment (treadmills, cross trainers, climbers, bikes) and includes a steam room and sauna. Fruit, water, earphones, and towels are provided, and personal training, yoga, and other fitness classes are available for a fee. The outdoor pool is on the small size, and despite being on a lower level of the hotel it’s remarkably quiet considering the location in a busy neighborhood. There is a handful of loungers scattered around the pool, and a small bar where guests can request food and drink service.
What are the Other Features at Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel?
Club lounge, massive event center, and a theater.
A top-floor space called the Individual Zone is a private lounge for Club-level guests, featuring a private breakfast service, evening refreshments, TVs, Eames-style black leather reclining chairs, and panoramic views of the city. A small business center in the lobby offers a few computers and a printer, while a full business center on the floor below includes additional equipment. Below the hotel, three full floors are dedicated to a massive event space with 15 rooms of all sizes, from small meeting rooms to large weddings or conventions. There is even a theater with live performances such as comedy shows. Full-service catering packages are available, as well as a separate lobby and entrance for events. The hotel’s “Navigator” desk offers free weekly walking tours of Paulista Avenue. On-site valet parking is available for a fee. Wi-Fi is free for members of the Marriott rewards program, which is free to sign up for.

Review: Renaissance São Paulo
After a planned trip to the Maldives got hit by flight rescheduling hell, as well as some doubts around international testing and quarantine, I decided to head back to Brazil for a recent holiday.
This time, however, I felt it would be good to give the beaches and bars of Rio de Janeiro a little bit of a break, and made my way over to São Paulo, the country’s economic capital, instead.

Renaissance São Paulo – Booking
I booked my stay here just before the Marriott Bonvoy’s much-lamented move to dynamic pricing . As a Category 4 property, the Renaissance São Paulo had previously run a very reasonable 20,000–30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points .
When one considers that a night here, on average, runs between US$225–300 and is charged in that currency (instead of the local Brazilian real), I felt this to be a great use of a paltry 55,000 Bonvoy points. I just clicked through on my Marriott Bonvoy app and was booked without hassle within seconds.
During my dates, rooms were going to cost US$244 per night, so I scored a redemption value of 1.1 cents per point – not as knockout of a rate as I might’ve preferred, but still above our current valuation of 0.9 cents per point .

- Daily breakfast for two guests

Renaissance São Paulo – Location
São Paulo reminds me my birthplace of Toronto. Indeed, if the signs weren’t in Portuguese and there weren’t random tropical florae and faunae mucking about, you’d be hard pressed to differentiate Sampa (as the locals call it) from the Big Smoke.
Grey concrete and bustling cosmopolitan life abound everywhere, and because I chose to stay in the heart of the business quarter, there were lots of shopping centres, skyscrapers, and smartly-dressed professionals in tropical business casual wear.
As always in Brazil, there can be concerns around safety, but I walked around the area with no real problems. And for those of you who worship Ronaldo, he has an entire exhibit dedicated to him at the Museu do Futebol directly north of the hotel.
Renaissance São Paulo – Check-in
The front of the hotel isn’t as pretty as the interior, but there’s plenty of space out front for a taxi or Uber to drop you off. I definitely recommend the latter, as it’s quite cheap and highly reliable.
On the other hand, the lobby is truly beautiful. For the first time in South America, I felt like I was walking into a modern luxury property, with its accents of gold and black marble.
The lobby boasts multiple seating areas where you can kick back and relax, as well as all-day bites and a sushi bar.
There’s also dedicated areas to sit and talk, and as a Renaissance-branded hotel, an entertainment Ambassador who acts like a concierge and can recommend local activities or get you dinner reservations.
After taking all this in, I made my way to the front desk. The staff, and indeed most of the guests, were quite helpful and spoke excellent English, and had no issues thanking me for my Titanium Elite status.
I was offered the choice of a larger room on a lower floor, or a room with two double beds on the top level. I opted for the latter with apologies for my broken Portuguese, which I am now studying with some intensity on Duolingo.
Before wandering upstairs, I took in the sights of the first floor, appreciating how much open space there was for guests and how meticulously spotless it had been kept.
Then, I made my way over to the beautiful circular elevator arrangement and ascended to get a look at the room.
Renaissance São Paulo – High Floor Two Double Room
Room 2506 is on the hotel’s top floor. But before I even got to my room, I knew I was in São Paulo when I saw the hotel boasts a helipad.
Brazilian traffic knows no equal on Earth, and São Paulo traffic is the apex predator of that particular species. Therefore, the wealthier patrons who might stay here need to be able to come and go at their leisure.
As a North American, it’s a little exotic for me, but fascinating to see such a feature at a high-end property.
Then it was time to enter my room.
My lodgings were a bit on the smaller side, though by no means as cramped as some European hotels can be.
The walls also had a decent thickness, so I didn’t have to listen to the shenanigans of my neighbours, nor impose my own on them.
Despite the modernity of the lobby, I could tell the rooms must be a little older due to their connecting door design.
The beds were nothing to write home about. Maybe sizes in Latin America are different, as they definitely felt bigger than the double, twin, or even full-size mattresses I’ve owned, but not as big as a queen.
There was also a little desk area to place a laptop if the need strikes.
The other side of the desk and television area revealed a snack tray and minibar.
While many hotels, including luxury properties, have discontinued these in the era of Uber Eats (or Instafood as they use in Brazil), the added convenience, albeit at ludicrous markups, still went appreciated by my intoxicated 5am alternate ego.
Plus, the Nespresso machine did wonders for me when recovering in the morning from said sorry state.
The bathroom was probably the nicest part of the entire room, complete as it was with all-marble accents, including a shower and a large tub.
The toilet setup included a bidet. I hadn’t seen this item at any lower-end properties in Brazil before, so its inclusion was a surprise bonus.
Renaissance São Paulo – Breakfast
Breakfast was served in the hotel’s Club Lounge, located on the 23rd floor, from 7am to 10:30am on weekdays and from 7am to 11:00am on weekends.
I felt it was “standard fare” for most Latin American hotels, but did feel that while the individual dishes may have been similar to those served elsewhere, the quality was much higher-end.
For example, the croissants tasted somewhat fresh, while the ham didn’t have a strange sickly sheen as I had seen at other hotels. Items such as the pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) looked more fulsome than some I’d seen at restaurants in the city.
Served buffet-style, I still felt that the pastries were the highlight of the offering, though the self-serve espresso was a much-needed pick-me-up even after the three previous Nespressos in my room. If only it could cure headaches.
Renaissance São Paulo – Club Lounge
The hotel’s Club Lounge to anyone who pays for lounge access as part of their room rate, or to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and above.
One of the nicer elements of this hotel is that access to the lounge appeared to be all day long, and there were no locks or other barriers on any drink cabinets, should you desire a beer or Guaraná, my favourite soft drink, at any time you wish.
The lounge also hosts a happy hour between 5pm and 8pm every day, during which there is a large assortment of canapés and heartier fare. You could easily eat an entire dinner meal here without issue.
I found the quality to be quite good, a solid cut of picanha above anything with the name “Maple Leaf” in it in Canada.
Renaissance São Paulo – Dining
The hotel boasts 24-hour room service, if that’s your kind of meal. There’s also the lounge bar, which serves food from 6am to 11pm daily, and includes a sushi bar.
Sushi is a huge deal in São Paulo due to the enormous Japanese diaspora residing there, so I suspect theirs is pretty good, but I didn’t try it.
I did go to their in-house restaurant, however, named Terraço Jardins. It was one of the prettiest places I’ve ever dined in.
Be advised that it has odd hours, which I was warned sometimes shift at random according to public holidays or bookings for special events. Make sure to check before you go.
I had a local seafood stew. Alas, it looked much nicer than it tasted, but it was still palatable, just lacking a little bit of heat and seasoning for my taste.
Once again, I kicked myself for my lack of Portuguese because while the manager was fluent in English, my waiter was not and I didn’t feel like making a scene.
Renaissance São Paulo – Other Facilities
This hotel boasts an entire spa level on the third floor, which looked and smelled incredible.
There’s also a gymnasium, but my blurry pictures don’t do it justice. There’s a personal trainer on staff, who was considerably larger than me and looked like he knew jiu-jitsu, so I took his friendly advice to not take more photos while he was in session with a client.
Instead, I made my way over to the rooftop pool area. It was deserted, perhaps due to the overcast weather, which was cold by local standards.
I was pleasantly surprised by my stay at the Renaissance São Paulo. For a while, I’d resigned myself to the notion that the luxury hotel concept had been killed by COVID, and that only the ultra-wealthy would ever get to be treated like valued guests again.
Instead, I found a well-designed and renovated hotel with an excellent location.
The hard product was highly competitive, even if it was a bit older. The hotel staff were exquisitely helpful and accommodated all my requests at all hours of the day and night.
I’ll definitely be returning to the Renaissance São Paulo next time I’m in Sampa , which will hopefully be later this year.

This was the most luxurious hotel in SP when it opened some 25 years ago. Nice to see they have been able to keep up the standards after all these years. Location wise, it is excellent – I can’t believe you ate at the hotel restaurant vs. one of the many absolutely fantastic restaurants in the Jardins area. Next time!
I was extremely hungover.

Review: Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel
After spending a few nights at the Sheraton in Sao Paulo , I was ready for a change. I had two nights booked for the weekend at the Renaissance Sao Paulo, and I was excited to check it out. Renaissance might be my favorite hotel chain, especially internationally. In the USA, most Renaissance properties are pretty nice, but abroad I typically find them to be outstanding. I really like both the Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park and the one in Mumbai. The one in Sao Paulo didn’t let me down.
The hotel is located not far from Paulista Avenue in a good part of Sao Paulo called Jardins . You can walk right out the door of the hotel to plenty of good shopping and restaurants. In terms of major chain hotels (Hyatt / Hilton / SPG / Marriott), the Renaissance has the best location in Sao Paulo, in my opinion. The others are located in the WTC area in the Brooklin neighborhood. That’s a business area where a lot of corporate offices are. That may be good or bad for you, depending on your plans. If you’re there for business and your meetings are over there, then good – if your meetings are somewhere else or you want a place where you can access the heart of the city on foot, then those locations are less optimal.
Walking up to the Renaissance is quite impressive. It is one of the taller buildings in the area, and the outside is striped in a way that looks very cool. When I walked in, I was immediately impressed by how friendly the staff was. Before I even got to the check-in guest, I was greeted multiple times. The lobby is quite large, with a cool bar in the front and the restaurants in the back. There’s a spiral staircase leading to the Havana Club, their swanky bar.
I was at the hotel early in the morning, and I didn’t expect to have a room ready yet, but I went to check in to see what could be done. The woman who worked there was extremely nice, and she told me that there was a special check-in for platinum guests in the lounge, but that because it was so early it was still closed. She asked me if it was okay if I was checked in downstairs. Haha of course that was no problem. She indicated that there wasn’t a room ready for me quite yet, but they would prepare one for me right away. I was instructed to go to the lounge for breakfast and to leave my baggage downstairs. Once a room opened up, someone would bring me a room key. Perfect! I went up to the lounge, and I was very impressed. It was massive, and the quality of food in there was really high. The picture below only shows a part of the lounge.
Additionally, there is an absolutely fantastic view of Sao Paulo from up there as the lounge is on the 23rd floor. Here’s a pic of the view, and if you want a high res version, just click the pic!
The lounge had an excellent selection of breakfast food. There were eggs, sausages, toast, pastries, cold cuts, and a large selection of fruit and cheese.
I sat in the lounge eating breakfast, preparing a presentation I had to give later that day, and surfing the internet. The internet speed was really fast. After working for thirty minutes or so, an employee came up to me and gave me a room key with my room number. Great service! I went down to my room, and I found all of my luggage to already be in there. The room was not a suite, but it was a large room, and it had all the space I needed.
I actually really liked the curved desk that was against the window. It was huge, with enough room for a room service tray, a computer, and then some. The desk also had a huge set of ports so I could plug my laptop into the HDMI port and get video on the television screen. This was great… as I was able to watch Step Brothers on the TV that night while working on my computer :-).
The bathroom was equally nice. There was a shower, a tub, a sink, etc… and everything was perfectly clean.
Of course, there was one odd thing that I’m not used to seeing. There was a “mystery foot pedal” in my shower. I really had no idea what it was for, and I made a game out of avoiding it. Maybe it was a trap door??? Maybe… it… I have no idea. In any case, I forgot to press it. So I have no idea what this foot pedal does!
After a long day, I came back to the hotel, and I went to the gym. Bad hotel gyms are a pet peeve of mine, and I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice the gym at the Renaissance was. In fact, it’s less of a gym and more of full featured fitness center. Check out the pics!
If it’s not clear from the pictures, the gym was awesome. I used it a few times over the weekend. My rate actually included a free dinner one night at their restaurant so I tried that out, and I must say that i had some of the best ravioli I’ve ever had before.
If you haven’t been able to tell from my review thus far, I’m a huge fan of this hotel. If you’re coming to Sao Paulo for business, take a look at where your meetings are and plan accordingly, but if you’re coming to Sao Paulo to see the city or just hang out for a bit, then I really think this is the best hotel of all the main chains. The location is awesome, and it really has all the amenities that you would want from a top tier property.
I’m sure that I will visit again in the near future!

Arrival and Check-in
I picked the Renaissance as Sao Paulo doesn’t really offer much in the way of higher end luxury hotels and I was interested to try the Renaissance brand for the first time. It is pitched quite similarly to IHG’s Indigo brand: midscale hotels with a slightly, younger and cooler atmosphere than a regular business hotel. Most importantly it is located within the same neighborhood as D.O.M. restaurant , which was important to me given that visiting the restaurant was the sole purpose of this trip and Sao Paulo traffic can be notoriously terrible.
I really didn’t want to leave things to chance by having a hotel that was any further from the restaurant than it needed to be!
Actually, it turns out that Sao Paulo traffic was very kind to us. We grabbed an uber at GRU airport, which pulled directly up to the airport door. I’ve found that this can be a bit of a lottery, with airports like LHR and WLG making it very difficult to get an Uber, whilst YUL actually has a dedicated pick-up spot with Uber banners in the arrivals hall.
Renaissance Sao Paulo – check in.
We were met curb-side and assisted with our bags, then shown to an empty check-in desk. The interior of the hotel is quite dark and features a variety of video screens and art displays.
Renaissance Sao Paulo – lobby.
A bar dominates the majority of the lobby.
There was a buzzing social scene here when we came back to the hotel after dinner. This definitely seems like a place to be seen in Sao Paulo.
Check-in was very quick and efficient; we were informed that we had lounge access as a result of my Marriott Platinum status and were also proactively asked if we would require late checkout. The room itself did not appear to have been upgraded however; we received the Deluxe Room which we had originally booked…
Renaissance Sao Paulo – hallways.
The hallways are far more like what you would expect in a bland, faceless, corporate hotel. A bit depressing really.
The room was rather small but also very clean and relatively modern looking. Although honestly, if you showed me these images, I’d guess this hotel was in Scandinavia rather than South America. The beds were decently sized and extremely comfortable, very soft and squishy, with perfectly plump pillows. I was also happy to see power sockets and master light switches by the bedside tables.
These little details are so often missing, even in far more expensive hotels.
The TV was also very sharp and modern and I have to give props to the Eames office chair and coffee machines, neither of which I was expecting.
Nespresso machine and complimentary bottled water.
Speaking of things I wasn’t expecting:
Renaissance Sao Paulo – wardrobe.
In addition to the usual bathrobes and iron, there was an unexpected surprise in the wardrobe.
Renaissance Sao Paulo – flip flops.
Instead of regular slippers there were two fresh pairs of Havaianas. Definitely not Scandinavian.
The bathroom was quite drab and had a rather comically proportioned bath tub. On the plus side, there was a separate shower, with excellent water pressure and there was ample counter space for two people’s toiletries.
Speaking of toiletries:
Renaissance Sao Paulo – toiletries.
The brand used by the Renaissance is generic and completely unmemorable.
Overall the room was spacious and comfortable enough to spend one night but won’t be winning any design awards any time soon.
Renaissance Sao Paulo – building.
The Renaissance is housed in one of the tallest buildings in the area, so at least there are no dreaded rooftop vent or courtyard views.
Club Lounge
Renaissance Sao Paulo – club lounge.
The club lounge at this hotel is massive, occupying the entire 23rd floor. In my experience the reception area was never staffed, although key cards are required to pass through the lounge doors.
We used the lounge during both cocktail time and at breakfast, the photos of the various seating areas were taken in the morning, when the light was better and the space left mostly empty. I guess everyone but us had a particularly wild Saturday night and wasn’t quite ready to eat at 8am!
I like the way the lounge is broken down into a series of ‘living rooms’. It definitely makes the place feel more cosy.
A great variety of different seating styles, depending on whether you want to have a quiet drink, hang out with a group, dine or work. In addition to being practical this also makes the space a lot more aesthetically pleasing.
Tables were laid out with cutlery both in the evening and at breakfast time. On both occasions the service was superb: very quick, very friendly and actually rather proactive. The staff made suggestions and encouraged us to try different things, conversing with us, rather than just clearing tables and bringing over our orders.
We opted for the bar seats by the window for our evening cocktails. The views from the 23rd floor were awesome!
View of the 212m tall Bandeirantes TV tower.
During happy hour there were a selection of wines available, in addition to a staffed cocktail bar. All the classics were available but there’s no way we could come all the way to Brazil and miss out on a Caipirinha!
The food selection in the lounge is extremely extensive. We only tried a couple of small bites but if you had no dinner plans you could absolutely make a full meal out of the buffet here.
If anything, the breakfast buffet was even more extensive. I loved the fact that in addition to the usual international fare there were tons of local fruits and fresh juices, as well as feijoada (beef, pork and black bean stew) and pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread ).
Renaissance Sao Paulo – breakfast buffet.
There is American style coffee but thankfully proper espresso based coffee was also available from the delightful lounge attendants . They were genuinely some of the warmest, friendliest hotel staff I’ve ever come across. They really seemed to love their job and were great fun to talk to, their English was roughly on a par with my basic Portuguese but we managed to muddle along perfectly.
Copious carbohydrates in both liquid and solid form.
Given the proximity to D.O.M. the choice of hotel was something of a no-brainer.
This was my first taste of the Renaissance brand and in a lot of ways I really enjoyed it! The room rate was very reasonable, the complimentary lounge access was most welcome and provided an experience that was up there with some of the best in Asia. The beds were super comfortable and the room had all the espresso we could drink (crucial on a weekend trip covering over 12,000 miles).
Sure, the decor and toiletries could have been more luxurious but in Europe this hotel could charge double the rate and still seem extremely reasonable. Next time I’m in Sao Paulo I’d have to have a very good reason to look elsewhere for my accommodation.
