Sade Returns to Studio to Complete Long-Awaited Album

Grammy-winning band Sade could formally break their musical silence after 12 years, Billboard reports .

In a recent Billboard cover story, Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt and French composer and producer Damien Quintard discussed the renovation of the legendary recording facility, Miraval Studios , in Correns, France. Quintard and Bitt named the band the first artist to lay down new vocals at the newly restored recording studio.

“You could feel the love that she and the band had for this place. And when we talked to musicians who came here previously, they all have this special connection with Miraval that can’t really be explained… It’s a dream come true to see this place activate again,” Quintard said. 

In terms of a full-length album, Sade — composed of Sade Adu (vocalist), Stuart Matthewman (saxophonist), Andrew Hale (keyboardist) and Paul Spencer Denman (bass guitarist) — have been missing in action since releasing Soldier of Love in February 2010.

Matthewman confirmed to Rated R&B in 2018 that the group was working on a new album. He mentioned “ a bunch of songs ” were in the can, but they wouldn’t be released until the moment felt suitable for them.

“When we’re happy, then we’ll let everyone else hear it. [Sade’s] not interested in fame or any of that [other] stuff. She likes to put out art. So when it’s ready, it will come out,” Matthewman affirmed . 

He added , “The record company knows there’s no point in nagging us or giving us deadlines. It doesn’t help the process.” At the time of that interview and this publishing, Sade are still under the roster of their longtime label Epic Records . 

In 2020, Rated R&B spoke with Sophie Muller , an acclaimed music video director who has worked with Sade on several videos in the past. She revealed the band could have very well released a new album sometime that year, but the events of the world didn’t make that possible.

“Well, I think it would have been this year,” Muller shared in July 2020. “Of course, there’s been a lot of series of events occurring where things have slowed the world up. Maybe next year.”

While 2021 did not produce a new Sade album, in October 2020, the group spoke to a British GQ Magazine , where they teased recording music at Adu’s home in Gloucestershire.

In the interview, Denman explained why the band was readying This Far , a career-spanning box set collection of their six studio albums that debuted later that fall.

“There wasn’t a specific date in mind when we embarked on the project — just the wish to collect a body of work together on vinyl, some of which wasn’t widely available at the time of release. Box sets sometimes can have a finality attached to them, but for us, the title This Far alludes to a point on the road, not the end of it,” Denman told British GQ ’s Dylan Jones in October 2020.

Sade counts six studio albums, including Lovers Rock and Love Deluxe . The former celebrated its 20th anniversary in November 2020, which Rated R&B highlighted in a retrospective .

Love Deluxe , 4x multi-platinum, will celebrate its 30th anniversary later this fall.

In 2018, Sade recorded two songs for film soundtracks. They shared “ Flower of the Universe ” for Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time and “ The Big Unknown ” for Steve McQueen’s Widows , which starred Viola Davis.

Sade Announce Vinyl Reissues of All Six Albums

Half are arriving on June 21st, with the other three due out September 20th

Sade Adu  and her  eponymous band have announced they are reissuing all six of their studio albums individually. Half of the albums will be released on June 21st, with the other three arriving on September 20th.

Diamond Life  (1984),  Promise (1985), and Stronger Than Pride (1988) are each due out June 21st, while Love Deluxe  (1992),  Lovers Rock  (2000), and  Soldier of Love (2010) are slated for September 20th.

Just like Sade’s 2020 career-spanning box set This Far , each LP was pressed on 180-gram vinyl and remastered at half-speed at Abbey Road Studios using a method promising “exceptionally clean and detailed audio whilst remaining faithful to the band’s intended sound.” Pre-orders are ongoing.

Though Sade haven’t released an album since Soldier of Love , they did return in 2018 with “Flower of the Universe”  and “The Big Unknown,” which appeared on the soundtracks to Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time and Steve McQueen’s Widows , respectively.

In 2022,  Billboard reported Sade had “returned to recording” at Brad Pitt and Damien Quintard’s restored Miraval Studios. Thus far, no new music has surfaced from those sessions.

Last year, Adu was individually inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame .

Sade is a British soul and R&B band that was formed in London in 1982. The band's frontwoman, Sade Adu, is the lead vocalist, and the band also includes Stuart Matthewman (saxophone, guitar, and keyboards), Paul Denman (bass), and Andrew Hale (keyboards). Pink, 44, is heading back out on tour this summer as she revives her Summer Carnival tour for 2024, kicking off the UK leg of the tour on 11th June at Cardiff's Principality Stadium before moving on to venues in London, Dublin, Liverpool and Glasgow.

The Who Knew , So What and Raise Your Glass hitmaker will be joined by special guests during the tour's run including The Script, Rag 'N' Bone Man, Gayle and KidCutUp.

However, it will be Pink's hits the fans will be most looking forward to seeing her perform - especially when many of them are performed while she flies around the air doing aerial acrobatics.

Taylor Swift ’s The Eras Tour has made headlines not only for its record-breaking global success but also for its plethora of viral moments.

Swift kicked off her most ambitious concert tour yet with back-to-back shows in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023. Her second night of performances gave fans one of the first viral moments of the tour as static electricity caused her hair to stand up while on stage at State Farm Stadium.

“She’s electrifying,” one fan commented on a March 2023 TikTok clip of the hilarious moment, while another used one of her Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) vault songs to poke fun at Swift’s locks. “Electric Touch (ft. Humidity) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault),” the user wrote.

Another fan captioned more footage of the hair-rising performance, “Staticky hair Taylor is a Taylor I didn’t know I needed 😂.”

Pocket the Security Guard

Swifties were obsessed with a security guard named Pocket who danced her heart out to “Blank Space” at one of Swift’s March 2023 shows. “No one worked harder this weekend than this iconic security guard, Pocket 😹,” one TikTok user captioned a clip of Pocket rocking out in an aisle between seats.

‘Bad Blood’ With a Security Guard

Swift made headlines for defending a fan from an aggressive security guard during a May 2023 show. “She’s fine,” the singer yelled at the staff member while singing “Bad Blood.” Throughout the song’s chorus, Swift told the security guard, “She wasn’t doing anything,” and yelled, “Hey, stop!” before walking to the other side of the stage.

The moment has since become a fan chant, with some concertgoers shouting “Hey, stop!” during the number.

The ‘Rainiest Rain Show’

Swift is known lover of rain shows, but her second night in Foxborough, Massachusetts, in May 2023 was unlike any rain show she’s experienced. “This is the rainiest rain show that ever rain showed, ever, ever, ever,” she declared during her surprise songs acoustic set, per social media footage .

Questioning whether her soaked guitar was going to work, she added, “No one ever expects you’re gonna basically perform, like, in a shower. It’s really very exciting.”

Haunted piano.

Swift’s acoustic set piano had a mind of its own during her third night in Foxborough in May 2023. “It rained a lot last night, like a monsoon. To be exact, it rained for three-and-a-half hours straight and it just kept getting more and more rain,” she explained before her piano keys began to make noise.

“Did you hear that?” she asked fans before the piano’s keys played several more notes. “I’m just gonna do another song on guitar. That’s insane.”

Swiftquakes

Swifties jammed out so hard at Eras Tour concerts that they caused earthquakes in multiple cities. CNN reported that Swift’s July 2023 shows in Seattle created a 2.3 magnitude earthquake. A March 2024 study by The Los Angeles Times revealed that there were “distinct harmonic tremors” following the tour’s August 2023 L.A. concerts .

Flipping Out

Fans freaked out when Swift brought out the stars of her “I Can See You” music video during a July 2023 stop in Kansas City. Her ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner made a particularly memorable entrance on stage as he waved at concertgoers before running and doing flips down the stage’s walkway.

“Taylor Lautner doing a backflip on Taylor Swift’s stage was not on my 2023 bingo card,” a fan hilariously captioned a clip of the moment via X .

‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ Madness

Swifties highly suspected the “Style” singer would announce the re-recorded version of her album 1989 at her August 2023 L.A. concerts. Swift played into the speculation by debuting new blue outfits during the show’s Speak Now , Folklore , and 1989 sections. She confirmed the theories were correct by dropping the cover art and release date for 1989 (Taylor’s Version) during her surprise songs set.

The concert also marked her last U.S. show on the first leg of The Eras Tour . To celebrate, she excited backstage with a glass of wine in hand .

Boots Not Made for Walking

Swift kicked off one of her November 2023 shows in Rio de Janeiro on a funny note after breaking one of her bejeweled Christian Louboutin boots during the concert’s opening Lover set. She ripped off the broken heel and threw it into the crowd before powering through the rest of the set on her tiptoes.

“She stands on tiptoe, with a broken heel, like a real-life Barbie🫢,” one fan captioned footage of the moment via X .

Plane Fly-Over

A hilarious coincidence occurred during one of the tour’s November 2023 Buenos Aires shows. While singing the “Labyrinth” lyrics, “I thought the plane was going down / How’d you turn it right around?,” during the secret songs set, an actual plane flew over the stadium as if on cue.

Swift shared the moment via Instagram , hilariously captioning the clip, “Never beating the sorcery allegations ✨🛬✨.”

Fans were shocked when photos circulated online of someone’s baby being placed on the floor at one of the tour’s May 2024 Paris shows. A spokesperson for the venue, the La Défense Arena, told Page Six at the time that the “general terms and conditions of sale stipulate that all minors (without any age limit) holding a ticket for a concert at Paris La Défense arena must be accompanied by an adult.”

The statement continued: “Under 18 children remain under their legal guardian responsibility, it’s venue policy. For spectators with a young child on the floor, an alternative seating arrangement has been proposed but refused by ticket holders.”

‘Talk Amongst Yourselves’

Swift briefly paused her secret songs set at a May 2024 Stockholm show due to a wardrobe malfunction. Rather than sit in silence, she encouraged fans to “talk amongst yourselves” while a crew member came on stage to help fix her situation.

Which LIV Golfers Are In The 2024 US Open - And How Did They Qualify?

W ith Major season in full swing across both the men's and women's game, Pinehurst No.2 is gearing up to host the US Open between June 13-16.

156 players will tee it up at the historic North Carolina layout in a bid to add their name onto the long list of former US Open champions. A total of 12 of those will hail from the LIV Golf League.

The upcoming Major will feature among the lowest intake of LIV players since the breakaway circuit was formed - that is despite 35 of its roster opting to try and make it through sectional qualifying in the weeks leading up to the championship.

Only three LIV golfers qualified across 13 sites around the world - 10 of which were in the United States - adding on to the nine pros who were already exempt. A total of 67 golfers, either amateur or professional, earned their place in the field for the 2024 US Open via qualification.

But what about the LIV players? Who are the 12 professionals from the 54-hole league who are taking part at Pinehurst. Let's take a look...

GROUP OF RECENT PAST CHAMPIONS

The USGA hands out a 10-year exemption for winning the US Open, the shortest period for clinching a Major, and LIV players have won five of the past 10 US Open championships, starting with Martin Kaymer in 2014. 

Since then, Dustin Johnson (2016), Brooks Koepka (2017, 2018), Bryson DeChambeau (2020) and Jon Rahm (2021) have all hoisted the precious silver cup above their heads on Sunday.

As a result of these wins, first and foremost, the five aforementioned LIV players were included in the field this year.

Top-10 And Ties From 2023

Although he has won an Open Championship within the past five years which would have booked his spot anyway, Cameron Smith 's place at the 124th US Open was in fact secured via the second criteria on the USGA's list - the lowest 10 scorers and ties from the previous year's championship.

The Australian finished solo fourth on six-under in 2023, four shots back of eventual victor, Wyndham Clark.

Past Five PGA Championship Winners

Koepka is already exempt for the US Open via other means, but Phil Mickelson 's record-breaking victory at Kiawah Island in 2021 is now the method in which Lefty is into this year's US Open.

Mickelson has famously never won the US Open - needing a title to complete his personal Grand Slam - but has six runner-up finishes across his highly-distinguished career.

He recently discussed the prospect of retiring from playing in the not-too-distant future, and has previously gone on record as saying if he ever won the US Open, he would call it a day . You can't argue with that logic.

RACE TO DUBAI TOP TWO

Adrian Meronk is one of the newest LIV signings - having switched from the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in January 2024 - and finds himself with a US Open spot due to his high finish in the European Tour's season points list last year.

The Polish player - who was desperately unlucky not to make it onto Team Europe in the most-recent Ryder Cup - ended fourth in 2023 behind Rahm, Nicolai Hojgaard, and Rory McIlroy. Yet, with those three all exempt via other categories beforehand, Meronk was invited to Pinehurst No.2.

QUALIFIED AND ELIGIBLE FOR 2023 TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

The final LIV player on its list of exempt golfers is Tyrrell Hatton - the man who moved over to join Rahm's Legion XIII shortly before the 2024 PGA Tour season began in earnest.

Hatton qualified for the Tour Championship last season and ended up finishing T16, which ultimately secured his place at Pinehurst.

THE THREE SECTIONAL QUALIFIERS

Eugenio Chacarra went through final US Open qualifying in Texas midway through May and secured his spot alongside nine others - including Francesco Molinari and SH Kim.

The Fireballs GC player was later joined by David Puig and Dean Burmester - both of whom have enjoyed a sparkling past six months or so via multiple victories and several high finishes on either the Asian Tour or in the LIV Golf League.
