  • Kedutaan Besar Republik Indonesia.

Silakan baca “ Anak Dusun Keliling Dunia “

terima kasih infonya pak Andi.

Wah, artikelnya bagus bgt.

Terima kasih mbak Vita atas tambahan infonya 🙂

Pak Made, tulisan Bapak sangat membantu kami. Pak Made, saya ingin bertanya.

Intinya, sampaikan yg PERLU disampaikan. Use you common sense!

Oke Pak. Terima kasih Pak Andi..

Wah pak tulisan bapak menambah semangat 🙂 Sukses pak made

Terima kasih telah membaca, syukurlah bermanfaat Mas Okky 🙂

Tips yg sangat bermanfaat, terima ksh P.Andi.

terima kasih banyak pak 🙂

Nice post, Pak Made! Makasih banyak! Saya lagi ngumpulin ide buat nyari dana symposium ke jepang desember nanti. Syukurlah saya dibawa ke page ini. Hhe..

Bidangnya renewable energy.

Abis baca tulisan Pak Made sih kebayang mau bikin kayak gimana. Tapi saya takut ‘dikacangin’. I most probably ask the sponsorship from related association and/or private foundation.

Semoga Pak Made cepet baca komen saya, dan cepet balesnya.

Surat undangan, jadwal konferensi, Website,

informasi yang sangat berharga pak made.. terima kasih sudah berbagi salam

Artikelnya sangat membantu, terima kasih bli Andi

What are Travel grants?

Amrita Tamang

Simply understanding travel grants are the financial support provided by any entities to the related or specific candidates. A candidate may get district or global grant which may include funds for domestic or international travel:  air, road or water transportation.

Travel Grants are non-repayable funds given by one party often by a government department, corporation, foundation or trust, to grant seekers. In order to receive a grant, providers usually ask for the submission of application also referred to as a proposal. Few related entities might also ask for an in-person interview or presentation of your proposal.

Many misunderstand that travel grants are only for students but it benefits any individual, group, or organization who intend to travel for various purposes- to attain academic and professional conference, seminar, meeting, events and any other programs that enhance the ability to grow in their related field. Travel grants are the biggest opportunities and a challenge for those candidates who wills to achieve success in their life. Candidates who wills to travel to a far-flung destination for a specific purpose or invites can apply for the grants with a detailed proposal as to why travel grants and travel is essential. You might feel application process for a travel grant is not easy and that is true as it is an investment on you by the grant provider. They would, of course, want to every see the full justification of why they should put money for you. In most cases, you’ll have to come up with a full justified proposal that outlines what you plan to do on your trip, as well as what you think you’ll gain or how can you contribute to your surroundings.

Before applying for the grants, make sure to do some research into the background of the organization you’re applying for, then cater your aims to mirror their mission and goals, to fall under selected candidates.

Where can we find travel grants?

Travel grants provided are not always the same it depends on the provider’s interest. Providers can be from:

  • Universities/Colleges
  • Foundations
  • Research Centers
  • Professional societies
  • Conference /Seminar Providers
  • Government/ Local Bodies
  • Embassies and I/NGOs,
  • Corporate, etc

Travel Grant providers have their own specific targets such as:

  • Some provide travel grants to their members only, where one has to be a member in related organizations.
  • Some provide travel grants for conferences, organizations, events where you don’t have to be a member but might need an invitation letter.
  • Some are limited to specific countries focused for the upgrowth of the targeted countries where non-eligible countries are directly rejected.
  • Some are focused on the students/researchers (junior/senior) who are available through universities for abroad studies, presenting at a conference or attending a conference or to study abroad.
  • Some are focused on training, which is available through various government organizations, non-profit agencies, and private foundations. Travel grants for training are generally available to pay expenses such as transportation costs, housing costs, and food costs, but most do not include the cost of the training.
  • Some are focused only on medical treatment for students, members or related personals of any universities or organizations. This treatment can be found through specialized organizations and hospital administrations. This type of grants usually covers transportation costs. It usually only cover the patient plus one helper. Sometimes it also covers the costs for a nurse, if medically necessary.

By investing in research and postgraduate training, it is building the knowledge and skills base needed to address the scientific and technological challenges facing the nation. What’s a Travel Grant, and How Do I Get One?

travel grant adalah

The ability to travel opens your eyes to worlds apart from your own. While this type of experience is invaluable, it does cost money — sometimes, a lot of money.

That’s where a travel grant comes in. This type of allowance provides the funds you need to get yourself around the world and back again.

What Is a Travel Grant?

In general, federal or state governments — as well as educational institutions — can provide you with a grant. As far as travel goes, though, they’re most often awarded by the latter.

Students who propose to travel to a far-flung destination should come to the awarding officer with a detailed proposal as to why this trip is essential. In most cases, they’ll have to show the type of research they’ll be able to conduct while they’re out of the country. If the university or organization providing the grant sees the value in the trip — say, it’s for research instead of relaxation — they will likely give a plan the go-ahead.

There’s a slight difference between travel grants and scholarships. To obtain the latter, one typically has to show proof of academic excellence or another exceptional talent. The money awarded often goes toward tuition fees incurred while studying abroad, which might make it harder to obtain a scholarship for research pursuits or cultural immersion.

How Do I Get One?

travel grant adalah

It may seem as though graduate and Ph.D. students are the only ones who can pursue travel grants that fund research, but that’s not always the case. In fact, there are a few organizations outside educational ones that will provide grants for travel — check with UNESCO and the UN, as well as the SPRET educational trust , which tends to choose students based in designated areas.

All these groups will fund trips aimed at personal or cultural development, not just educational growth. There might be other options, too — be sure to do your research for the best fit.

Every application for a grant will be different. In most cases, you’ll have to come up with some sort of proposal that outlines what you plan to do on your trip, as well as what you think you’ll gain. Do some research into the background of the organization you’re applying to, then cater your aims to mirror their mission and goals.

Some organizations will require an in-person interview or presentation of your proposal. From there, it’s just a waiting game to see whether you get the grant.

What Are My Other Options?

travel grant adalah

The grant isn’t the be all, end all of travel funding. In fact, there are multiple ways to see the world without breaking the bank , and some may fit your bill better than an educational or research grant.

For example, many people travel abroad to teach English as a second language. Countries like Spain and South Korea have programs that only require you to be a native speaker. You can then live, work and get paid abroad, which gives you an immersive cultural experience and the chance to travel with a sizable income.

Some charities allow you to volunteer abroad, while you can also take on odd jobs such as farming to see other pockets of the globe for free. In many cases, you’ll have to fund your flight, but your host will take care of the room and board, saving you big overall.

No matter how you make it happen, one thing is for sure: travel is one of life’s most rewarding experiences. If you want to learn more about the world — and yourself — a travel grant might be the way to do it.

CIPL

Comité International Permanent des Linguistes Permanent International Committee of Linguists

Travel grant procedure

Le Comité International Permanent des Linguistes (CIPL) / the Permanent International Committee of Linguists [1] announces that it will make available twice a year up to five travel grants of € 500 each (approx. US$ 550) for participation in a linguistics conference.

Of these grants, two are specifically intended for conferences organized by one of CIPL’s member organizations, or a conference co-organized by CIPL itself. This restriction does not apply to the three other travel grants.

Who is eligible

Advanced students in linguistics without a PhD are eligible to receive a once-only grant of € 500 to help fund their participation in a linguistics conference that will take place in another country than where the application resides.

The student must present a paper at the conference. Grants for participation in a conference in the home country of the applicant are excluded. Only one author of co-authored papers can be supported by a CIPL grant. A co-author who submits an application for a grant must make clear what part he/she had in the preparation and what part he/she will have in the presentation. Only a co-author whose contribution consists of at least 50% of both the paper and the presentation is eligible for a grant.

How to apply

Applicants must complete an application form that can be downloaded here . If you want a Wordfile of this application form, please send us a message ( CIPLtravelgrant@gmail.com ). The application should also include an abstract of the paper to be presented; a CV; proof that the paper has been accepted for presentation; proof that the conference will take place as scheduled ; and a letter of support by the student’s academic advisor.

Proof of participation

After the conference, a substantial report of the awardee’s participation (a size of 500 to 800 words is recommended), accompanied by a copy of a certificate of participation, must be presented to CIPL.

Applications should be sent to the Secretary-General of CIPL, Prof Dr Frieda Steurs, CIPLtravelgrant@gmail.com . The call is open twice a year: from March 1 st till May 15 th for conferences taking place between July 1 st and December 31 st and from October 1st till November 15th for conferences taking place between January 1 st and July 1 st . Only during these two periods, applications will be accepted.

  • A subcommittee of the Executive Committee of CIPL will evaluate the applications, aiming for a wide geographical distribution of both applicants and conferences.
  • All subdisciplines of linguistics are eligible. No particular theory or approach in linguistics is favoured over any other.
  • The Secretary-General of CIPL will announce  the results of the grant applications during the second week of June and the last week of November.
  • The applicant will receive € 350 immediately after the granting of the scholarship.
  • The remaining € 150 will be transferred on receipt of the conference report and the certificate of attendance.

Application prior to notification

It is possible to submit an application before the organizers of a conference have informed the applicant that his/her paper has been selected for presentation. In such a case, the applicant submits a provisional application for a grant. If the grant is awarded, the applicant must inform CIPL immediately after acceptance by the conference, after which the first part of the grant will be paid out.

[1] CIPL is a non-profit, non-governmental organization aiming  to promote the knowledge of linguistics throughout the world, to encourage the development of the science of linguistics and to stimulate co-operation among linguists. CIPL was founded in 1928 during the first International Congress of Linguists (ICL), which took place in The Hague. Every five years CIPL organises an ICL in close collaboration with linguists in the hosting nation. Every year CIPL prepares and publishes the Linguistic bibliography , aspires to give a complete and reliable survey of all linguistic publications, irrespective of the country of their appearance or the language in which they are written. In co-operation with UNESCO, CIPL also sponsors special linguistics projects such as those in the field of endangered languages.

Northern Health Travel Grant Program

Learn about financial assistance for Northern Ontario residents who travel long distances for medical specialist services

On this page Skip this page navigation

The Northern Health Travel Grant ( NHTG ) program offers financial assistance to Northern Ontario residents who need to travel long-distances for specialized medical services or procedures at a ministry-funded health care facility.

For eligible applicants, travel grants are based on the distance you need to travel to reach the nearest medical specialist or ministry-funded health care facility that can provide the required health care services without delay.

To qualify, you need to:

  • have traveled at least 100 kilometers ( km ) one-way to access the nearest medical specialist or ministry-funded health care facility services that are not available locally
  • submit your NHTG application to the Ministry of Health ( MOH ) within 12 months of the date of treatment

Note: The NHTG program helps you pay for some medical travel-related expenses but does not cover all expenses (such as meals or taxi).

Telemedicine

Telemedicine supports almost every clinical specialty and offers a cost-effective alternative for Northern Ontario residents who need to travel for specialized medical services or procedures at a ministry-funded health care facility.

A telemedicine appointment with the Ontario Telemedicine Network ( OTN ) is like an in-person visit, but the physician uses a monitor. Ask your health care provider if telemedicine is a suitable option for your needs.

Please consider telemedicine instead of travel.

Eligibility

Below are the following eligibility conditions for the Northern Health Travel Grant ( NHTG ) program:

  • You are an OHIP -insured Ontario resident on the date of treatment.
  • Your primary place of residence is in the districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, or Timiskaming.

  • A Winnipeg (Manitoba) physician enrolled on the Manitoba Health Specialist Register and permitted to bill as a specialist.
  • A physician who holds a specialist certificate of registration issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario ( CPSO ) in a recognized medical or surgical specialty other than family or general practice.

  • ultrasound or Pulmonary Function Testing services performed in a hospital
  • The nearest medical specialist or ministry-funded health care facility able to provide the type of care or procedure you require in Ontario or Winnipeg (Manitoba) is at least 100 kilometers from your area of residence.

When you are not eligible

You do not qualify for the Northern Health Travel Grant ( NHTG ) program if:

  • the health care service is not an OHIP -insured benefit
  • the care is related to a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claim
  • your employer pays for your medical services or travel costs
  • another government program or organization pays for your travel (such as a First Nations Band or the federal government)
  • the health care services have to do with a private insurance company (for example, if there is third-party liability for medical travel costs, such as medical services related to a motor vehicle accident)
  • you travel round trip by ambulance
  • non-Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada ( RCPSC ) certified medical specialist
  • non- RCPSC certified physician in Winnipeg (Manitoba) who is not enrolled on the Manitoba Health Specialist Register
  • physician who does not hold a specialist certificate of registration issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario ( CPSO ) in a recognized medical or surgical specialty other than family or general practice
  • ministry-funded health care facility
  • the nearest specialist or ministry-funded health care facility is within 100 kilometers of your area of residence
  • your trip is for something other than health care
  • you are travelling to visit a sick relative in hospital
  • your travel is not within Ontario or Winnipeg (Manitoba)

Note: If you travel one way by ambulance and the other way by car or public transportation, you may qualify for a partial grant.

If you do not have a northern referring provider, you may still qualify for a travel grant under the NHTG program. For information, you can contact the Ministry of Health ( MOH ), Claims Services Branch by phone at: 1-800-262-6524 .

Assisted costs

You may visit any medical specialist, hospital or ministry-funded health care facility in Ontario or Winnipeg (Manitoba) that qualifies.

Whether you are traveling by car, air, bus or rail, travel grants are always paid at a rate of 41 cents per kilometer (based on the round-trip distance) between your home and the nearest medical specialist or ministry-funded health care facility able to provide the required OHIP -insured services. Please note there is a 100-kilometer deductible on your trip , meaning 100 kilometers will be deducted from the total distance of the trip when calculating the amount of the travel grant.

The Northern Health Travel Grant ( NHTG ) program does not cover expenses for meals or taxi services . However, receipts for gas and meals should be kept for 12 months if we require proof of travel for audit purposes.

Accommodation allowance

The NHTG program offers an accommodation allowance for patients who:

  • meet the travel grant eligibility criteria
  • travel a one-way distance of at least 200 kilometers to reach the nearest medical specialist or ministry-funded health care facility able to provide the required services
  • submit original accommodation receipts in their name or as a guest to prove accommodation expenses (for patients under the age of 18, an accommodation receipt can be in the name of their parent or guardian)

You may be eligible for additional accommodation allowance if it is necessary to spend more than 1 night out-of-town to access medical specialist services or ministry-funded health care facility-based procedures.

Additional accommodation allowance for each treatment trip will be determined as follows:

  • $100 per night up to 2 nights
  • $250 for 3 nights
  • $500 for 4-7 nights
  • $550 for 8 or more nights

If you and other patients travel together in the same car, only 1 travel grant will be provided for the round trip. However, if you both meet the NHTG program eligibility requirements and your one-way trip to the nearest medical specialist or ministry-funded health care facility is at least 200 kilometers, you both may qualify for the $100.00 accommodation allowance.

Note: You will not be eligible for an accommodation allowance if you have not paid an official accommodation expense (for example, staying with a friend or family member).

How to submit for additional accommodation allowance

To request additional accommodation allowance, please specify the number of medically-necessary lodging nights in Section 1 of the NHTG application form.

The medical specialist or ministry-funded health care facility provider must also indicate the number of nights in Section 3 of the application form, or they can submit a letter to the NHTG program.

When writing a letter to the NHTG program the medical provider should use the phrasing:

“In their professional judgement, the accommodation allowance of greater than one night’s stay is necessary to access an out-of-town medical specialist health care service or ministry-funded health care facility based procedure.”

This letter must be submitted along with the application form to qualify for an additional accommodation allowance.

Assisted cost examples

Example 1 - eligible grant from point a to point b.

The one-way distance in this example is 160  km .

The grant is the two-way distance minus 100  km multiplied by 41 cents per km .

160  km (the one-way distance) x 2 (the two-way distance) - 100 ( km ) x 0.41 (cents per km travelled) = $90.20

Example 2 - Eligible grant from Point C to Point D

The one-way distance in this example is 300 km .

It was necessary for 1 night out-of-town in this example.

  • Travel grant calculation is 300  km (the one-way distance) x 2 (the two-way distance) - 100  ( km ) x 0.41 (cents per km travelled) = $205.00
  • Accommodation allowance is $100.00 (for 1 night)

Total payment to the patient for the trip is $205 (for the calculated travel grant) + $100 (for the accommodation allowance of 1 night) = $305.00

Example 3 - Eligible grant from Point C to Point D

The one-way distance in this example is 300  km .

In this example, a specialist/ministry-funded health care facility provider determines that 3 nights out-of-town are medically necessary.

  • Travel grant calculation is 300  km (the one-way distance) x 2 (the two-way distance) - 100 ( km ) x 0.41 (cents per km travelled) = $205.00
  • Accommodation allowance is $250.00 (for 3 nights)

Total payment to the patient for the trip is $205 (for the calculated travel grant) + $250 (for the accommodation allowance of 3 lodging nights) = $455.00

Receipts are required for proof and audit purposes to ensure appropriate spending of public funds.

Only original receipts will be accepted and applications will not be processed unless an original receipt is provided as proof of payment for an accommodation or commercial transportation expense.

Official itemized receipts must be submitted along with your application for the accommodation allowance. “Itemized receipt” refers to a receipt that lists the item(s) purchased and the individual price(s) for each item. This could include a hotel, motel or bed and breakfast. The accommodation receipt must include:

  • the name of the patient
  • the date(s) of stay
  • a fee paid for the stay

Note: The authorization receipt for a credit or debit card transaction is not considered an itemized receipt.

If traveling by air, bus, or rail, you must submit the original ticket, receipt or itinerary showing:

  • a fare paid
  • who travelled
  • the date of travel
  • the destination

Section 4: Payment preference

It is mandatory to fill out Section 4 of the NHTG program application to determine the payment preference of patients, third parties and companions (if applicable).

If you select the direct deposit option, please provide a completed bank-issued payroll direct deposit form or void cheque along with your grant application.

Section 5: Companion information

If you are applying for a companion grant, your travelling companion must also fill in the proper information in Section 5 of the application form. To qualify for a companion grant, the following conditions must be met:

  • The person that helps you during travel must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Your companion must travel with you and pay a fare if travel is by air, rail or bus and receipts must be provided (Air Miles or other loyalty programs are acceptable as a method of payment).
  • The patient must be younger than 16 years of age or the northern referring provider must indicate in Section 2 of the application form that the patient needs a travel companion for health or safety reasons.

If travel is round trip by personal vehicle, both you and your travel companion may qualify for an equal share of 1 grant.

Note: Travel companions are not eligible for an accommodation allowance.

Medical Appeals Committee C/O : Northern Health Travel Grant Claims Services Branch 159 Cedar Street, 7 th Floor Sudbury, Ontario P3E 6A5

Payment options

Direct deposit payment.

When you choose direct deposit, the grant payment will be deposited directly into your bank account.

If you choose direct deposit, you must submit a bank-issued payroll direct deposit form or void cheque along with your grant application. This applies if it is your first time using direct deposit for grant payments or if your banking information has changed since your last direct deposit grant payment.

Companions must provide a new bank issued payroll direct deposit form or void cheque each time an application is submitted. The ministry does not retain banking information for companions after an application has been processed.

Cheque payment

When you choose cheque payment, a cheque will be delivered by registered mail to the mailing address provided on your application.

If your application is approved, the ministry will provide your grant payment within 6 weeks from the date it receives your correctly completed application form. Please allow for the complete 6 weeks before checking on the status of your application.

Bank issued direct deposit form or void cheque

Bank issued direct deposit form.

The payroll direct deposit form provides bank account information in place of a void cheque. Your contact information and details about your bank are included. This includes the bank’s transit and institution numbers and your account number. This information ensures your payment is directed into your bank account.

Many larger financial institutions offer online access to download and print a payroll direct deposit form. Check online to see if your bank provides access to obtain a payroll direct deposit form or contact your bank to request a payroll direct deposit form.

Void cheques

A void cheque is a cheque with the word “void” written across the front, which indicates that it shouldn't be accepted for payment. The cheque can still be used to get the information needed for electronic payments. Remove a blank cheque from your cheque book and write the word "VOID" in large, bold letters across the front of the cheque in pen or permanent ink.

If you do not have paper cheques, you may be able to get a void cheque by going to your bank and asking for a printed copy of one.

Note: There may be a fee for this service.

No refund for travellers who cancelled flight already scrapped by airline: regulator

F our years on, the controversy over whether airlines owed refunds to passengers after cancelling hundreds of thousands of flights during the pandemic continues to simmer, aggravated by a sluggish, opaque complaints process.

In the first months of COVID-19, grounded planes and slashed schedules prompted most carriers to grant passengers travel credit. The airlines claimed they were not obliged to reimburse customers, citing a March 2020 statement from the Canadian Transportation Agency.

Now, even after regulatory changes that mandate refunds for flights scrapped due to a reason outside airlines’ control — whether it's a pandemic or a snowstorm — some Canadians still face rejection of long-standing reimbursement requests.

A recent ruling from the regulator found that one couple was not entitled to a refund because they chose to cancel their 2020 booking — for a flight the airline had already cancelled.

In a confidential decision obtained by The Canadian Press, a complaints resolution officer at the agency said the two passengers qualified for no more than a voucher because they cancelled their reservation with WestJet. The officer pointed to the conditions of their ticket.

“Although WestJet announced a route suspension, this does not change the terms and conditions of the ticket when the passenger initiates the cancellation first,” the officer wrote on Dec. 28.

But those conditions — laid out in the company's policies and posted on its website — stated that in the event of flight disruptions outside the carrier’s control, the customer “will be refunded” in the original form of payment if they turn down an alternate travel route.

Moreover, then-WestJet CEO Ed Sims had announced a day before the couple called off their late-March trip that the airline would cancel all flights for at least 30 days starting on March 22, 2020, for reasons related to COVID-19.

The couple, who asked to remain unnamed due to legal concerns — any decision from the agency’s complaint officers is confidential unless both parties agree to its release — described the situation as a “nightmare.”

“How can you cancel a flight that’s cancelled?” one asked.

They are still about $4,000 out of pocket, they said. “To us, that’s no small amount.”

WestJet did not respond to questions about that case.

A drawn-out complaints process has added to travellers' frustrations.

The couple filed their complaint with the regulator in March 2022, and said they received the decision in January of this year — a 22-month wait.

The complaints backlog at the transportation agency had grown to about 71,000 as of late April, its highest tally yet.

Withholding refunds was common in the first year or more of the pandemic, a move that garnered backlash from customers. The number of battles still playing out over the issue is tough to discern, since the regulator’s complaint rulings are not public, advocates say.

“It does create a chilling effect of people being afraid to speak openly,” said Gabor Lukacs, president of the Air Passenger Rights advocacy group.

He also accused the agency and the airline of ignoring the facts of the couple’s case.

Refund obligations at the time came down to the conditions attached to the ticket, since airlines were not required to reimburse in force majeure situations until an update to the passenger rights charter in 2022, said transportation agency spokesman Jadrino Huot.

At the outset of the pandemic, regulations “only require that the airline ensure passengers can complete their itineraries,” states an agency post from March 25, 2020. “Some airlines’ tariffs provide for refunds in certain cases, but may have clauses that airlines believe relieve them of such obligations in force majeure situations.”

Several older decisions by the federal agency itself appear to contravene the post, with at least three rulings since 2013 affirming air travellers’ right to a refund regardless of tariff conditions or whether a flight cancellation is beyond the airline’s control.

A 2013 ruling concerning Porter Airlines found that “it is unreasonable for Porter to refuse to refund the fare paid by a passenger because of its cancellation of a flight, even if the cause is an event beyond Porter’s control.” That finding came despite the fact that Porter's tariff — the airline-passenger contract — stipulated a no-refund policy for force majeure delays and cancellations.

“Breaching those decisions would be like contempt of court,” Lukacs claimed. Either way, WestJet's tariff included no such provision, he said.

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre said in April 2020 it had received “many complaints from consumers about future cancelled flights and the lack of refunds for these flights.”

To hold on to millions of dollars in fares amounted to a seizure, argued John Lawford, who heads the consumer rights organization.

“When airlines take large sums from consumers for future flights, and do not segregate those funds in trust but instead use them as operating funds, they have effectively taken consumer money for nothing,” he wrote in 2020.

Vouchers are not tantamount to reimbursement, he added. Lawford pointed to older Canadians unlikely to use store credit down the line “for health or financial reasons, or simply due to the uncertainty of future air travel.”

After holding out for more than a year, most airlines began to offer refunds for flights cancelled due to the pandemic as a condition of federal aid packages.

“As the situation evolved, we opened refunds to travellers who were issued a credit due to COVID, whether the booking was cancelled by us or the passenger,” said Andréan Gagné, a spokeswoman for Transat A.T. Inc.

WestJet, which never fell back on federal support, was the first carrier to offer refunds to some passengers in October 2020. But it said those refunds would not apply to customers who cancelled their own trips or who purchased non-refundable basic fares, “in line with its regulatory tariff and booking conditions that were in place pre-COVID” — and in spite of tribunal precedent.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 13, 2024.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

travel grant adalah

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

travel grant adalah

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

travel grant adalah

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

travel grant adalah

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

travel grant adalah

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

travel grant adalah

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
