My impression about United world travel

Hi, I have traveled with the United traveled twice I can confirm that this company is the best for me , I will travel with them again.

Date of experience : April 08, 2019

Do Not travel with this company for hajj be aware!!

I would like to start by saying I booked Hajj with Emenac travels, later on found out it was Sam travels , when I got to the seminar I found out it was united world wide travels , they promised us a 4star hotel , we then found out that the hotel had no star and was a 30 minute walk to the haram when we were told it was a 10 minute walk (lied to us). It was a refurbished hotel in Mecca with no cleaner ,the amount of time we spent in the hotel we had our sheets changed once.on some occasions there was no food , even if there was food it was of cheap standard ,cheap drinks etc they would say do sabr , you do sabr if you get things for free not when you have paid for a service , they were not doing us any favours because we had paid a lot of money for this cheap service .one thing that really upset me was that the Somali community would have a separate bus from us , which I couldn’t understand why because we were all from England and everyone knew how to speak English , to be honest they are a racist company especially Abdul kader who thinks he’s something , he is rude and has no manners .i am writing this review to warn people who are not Somalians not to travel with this company .

I am not happy with the experience I…

I am not happy with the experience I got from United Worldwide Travel. I travelled with this company for Umrah and it was the first time me and my brother went to Umrah together. I will never recommend this company to anyone because of the way they treated and the service they provided me was very bad. They are full of lies and they can never take criticism very well, if you complain they get angry. They sent me a picture of one hotel telling me that I will stay and it looked like a good quality hotel but when I got to Makkah they put me in a different hotel which was bad quality and it was far from the shops and far from the Haram. When I spoke to them they told me the other hotel is full and there’s nothing we can do about it. I got an unfair treatment and I’m not alone this also happened to many people. They don’t do any guidance for umrah and they don’t help with anything even if you get sick they will never help out. It felt like they just took my money and ran away and left every man for himself. I don’t believe that everybody who works for this company are bad but I have seen some people who work with this company that are very bad and need to be trained and educated thoroughly because 1. They are working with humans and 2. They are making this company look bad and lose customers. They have ruined my first trip to umrah with my brother that is why I will never recommend this company to anyone and I will never come back, and i’m not alone in this feeling. There are many people that cannot speak Arabic or English and can only speak Somali so they rely on company and this company does not help anyone all they do is they lie and cheat especially when taking groups of people to Umrah.

Hajj the Journey of a lifetime...

Firstly, all praise is to Allah who gave me the opportunity to complete my Hajj in 2018. Hajj is one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. It's truly an incredible journey. I paid £4500 for my package with United Worldwide. After my ticket was booked I started exploring and learning about the pilgrimage. I studied the rituals, and mentally started to prepare myself. I had no expectation of any services. As I know from the seerah of our prophets how they undertook Hajj. Back in the days people would travel to Saudi with a ferry, people would carry their own Animal for sacrifice. In comparison nowadays Hajj is luxury. Firstly, we were in Madinah in a 4* hotel that was close to the haram. We were in Madinah the days before Hajj started, it was beautiful, there was less people and we had a beautiful time, Alhamdulilah. We went for Ziyarah as a group to Mount Uhud, Masjid Quba and Date Market. There were 4 buses, 1) English speaking 2) Arabic Speaking 3) Somali Speaking 4) Urdu Speaking and Bengali Speaking. There was a tour guide on each bus who explained where we were going and the history behind the place. It was great to see all these sights and have a choice of which bus we wanted to go on. This experience was accomodating for people from different backgrounds. From Madinah to Makkah there were 5 buses everyone was allocated a bus with their own mahrams. After we reached Makkah we were in Azizyah. In Azizyah, we were provided breakfast, lunch and dinner. ( Please note the apartments in Azizyah have no rating, before I went I did my research on what to expect and what to take with me) From Azizyah we went to Mina and completed the days of Hajj. During the days of Hajj, breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided for by the Ministry of Hajj. Tea, coffee and water were plentiful. After Hajj we moved to Pullman Zamzam in Makkah. This was a 5* hotel in the clock tower and breakfast and dinner was provided. I think people who found Hajj difficult or complained alot are the ones who thought that this was a five star holiday. Hajj is not a five star holiday. Alhamdulilah, I had the opportunity to perform Umrah many times. I would advise people to go for Umrah if they can before performing Hajj. It will put your mind at ease. The things that this organisation needs to improve on is better communication with the group, this will make things a lot easier for the Hajjis. Having said that i'm aware after speaking to many travel agents that alot of the things agents do not have control over. For example, the timing of the bus etc. In my opinion I think alot of British people find it hard because they are accustomed to the time in the UK. For example, 9am in the UK means 9 am. As an avid traveller I am very familiar with customs in other countries. I am fully aware that alot of countries are not good with time keeping. I think this package was a great package for the price I paid. Alhamdulilah. I was happy that we went Madinah first and then after Hajj we were in Makkah. Both times were perfect in terms of the crowd. I would like to say Jazakhallah to the team at United Worldwide, May Allah accept all your efforts and May Allah accept all the Hujjaj from past and present. I would also like to say that I'm a believer in constructive feedback, so I hope this feedback will allow the organisation to improve further.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

My experience with United Worldwide Travel was absolutely awful. I travelled with this company for Umrah and it was the first time my husband and I went to Umrah together. The service we received was terrible and what they promised and what we received was not the same. The dishonesty is unbelievable, in order to lure us in they sent us pictures of a hotel that was nice and pleasing to the eye after we fully paid for everything that’s when they sent us a picture of another hotel which was the complete opposite and I could have paid a cheaper price for this hotel rather than me paying a lot of money for it. The pictures they sent us before we paid and the pictures they sent us after we paid were completely different which was very dishonest. They took half of us to this hotel and the other half to the nicer hotel which was not fair because this shows me they chose who they gave a better service to and who not to give a good service to even though we all paid a large amount of money for this. Our hotel had no wifi available on the upper floors and it also had no washing machine available to wash our clothes. I then asked if I could wash my clothes at the other hotel since that hotel has washing machine available, I was then lied to by the person who sold me the ticket who was also staying at the other hotel (the nicer hotel) and said there was no washing machine. When I found out about the lie I was told I was extremely upset because of the lies. The dishonesty just kept on building up. The hotel we were refused was much closer to the Haram it’s literally 5minutes walk to the Haram, it has shops and cash machines close by whereas our hotel was further from the Haram and there were no shops and cash machines nearby. When we brought this up to the management or the person who sold me this ticket they did not take it well and in fact they tried to lie to my husband even more which was totally unprofessional and lack of communication. The worst part is that on the day we were leaving me and my husband were deleted from the group chat we were on, they did this so we don’t find out any updates on how we can get to the airport and what time the coach was coming we had to ask the group we came with. What shocked me was the lack of care, the lack of respect, the lack of communication and the lack of professionalism we experienced especially after they took our money. It’s almost like they are trying to punish us for complaining and requesting what we paid for and then when we confront them they act dumb rather than sorting out the situation. Going forward I will NEVER EVER recommend anyone I know to this company. My advice to United Worlwide Travel is you either change how you treat your customers, be honest and give them exactly what they paid for and look into your team by providing adequate training so that this sort of thing does not repeat itself or you will continue to get more negative feedback in the future by your future customers.

“do not book with united vacations” Review of United Airlines

I booked a trip for my honeymoon through united vacations.com. 3 weeks after I booked it I checked the price at united vacations.com. and found out the cost was $450 less than I had already paid. I purchased the trip insurance so I called them and they insisted my computer pricing was wrong. They had no other explanation other than my computer and my lying eyes.

The food and wine was terrible. In business class, United airlines serves wine in plastic cups . United offered only one selection for red wine. The cutlery used for eating in business class is plastic knives and forks not silver ware.

  • Food and Beverage

Since I was traveling alone, I checked Seatguru.com prior to purchasing to make sure I had a seat closer to the window - the Polaris configuration with lie-flat seats creates an overlap length-ways which places alternate seats closer to the aisle. The seat itself is continuously adjustable, and a bit firm, but comfortable. Your legs slide into a tapering rectangular hole (like an Egyptian sarcophagus) under the table of the seat in front, hence the note above overlap. Each seat is entirely adjustable without affecting the seats in front or back; you are in an independent unit - this was the best part of the experience. Two pillows are provided, a smaller firm memory foam one, and a larger softer one which is nice. The blanket was soft, of fairly high quality material. A variety of enclosed and open storage spaces for small items which was helpful, that way you're not scrambling to find them in the darkness. The touch screen was large enough and free of glitches. The variety and organization of the entertainment center on Emirates spoils you for anything else and has to be the gold standard. This one had a reasonably wide selection of mainstream films, though weaker with it's selection of indie / alternative and foreign language films. The organization of films alphabetically was a bit irritating - Emirates organizes them by category, which makes much more sense when you have a 100+ films to choose from. The music selection was based on compilations for each genre, and was disappointing, on Emirates you can listen to entire albums. The headphone set, while better than economy class, was also below par - the dynamic range (bass to treble) was pretty mediocre. If you're serious about music and sound, get your own headphones on board, and your own music. The flight attendants were very pleasant and attentive. The food for business class was just about ok, and the greatest let down in terms of expectations. There was no menu to read, and they had only two vegetarian choices, both for dinner and breakfast. The entree was slightly larger than what you would get in economy, and served on ceramic ware with steel cutlery - the rest was the usual plastic wrapped assortment of side items. A friend who traveled Polaris a month or so earlier had a better food experience (salmon was an option) so that makes the mediocre fare (for business class) all the more puzzling.

United is a classless company. They waited until 10 minutes until our original departure to delay the flight two hours. It’s not the first time this has happened too. They are unorganized and indifferent to costumer inconvenience. Fly with another company.

Every single flight I have taken from ORD to PDX is always delayed and United does not make a gate agent available to assist. If you need help you wait 1.5 hrs on the phone. Then when they answer they are rude unhelpful and make excuses why you can’t receive any compensation for delays caused by United. They also say if you want compensation you MUST take your flight then call back. When you call back they tell you that you will not receive compensation because you were able to take your flight. @Unitedisajoke

Our Editor’s Review

The United Airlines Vacations site is easy to navigate, and we found some cheap deals here, even without the need for “promotion codes”. If you are looking for United Airlines Vacations promotion codes, the absolute first place you should search is under the “deals” tab. Under “deals”, you simply enter in your hometown (or where you will be leaving from), and United Airlines Vacations will generate all of their current promotions to any destination worldwide. If a United Vacations promotion code is needed, it will given to you during your search.

If your destination is not flexible, finding promotions is just as easy. From the “Deals” tab on United Vacations home page, select “Featured Destinations”. This will pull up United Airlines Vacations list of destination promotions. Simply scroll down to see if your desired destination is listed. One aspect we really like is that after you click on your desired destination, they give you a detailed description of the destination, along with a link to view all “Calendar of Events” happening in the area. If you are looking to take a vacation with the kids but don’t know what date would be the best time to go, you can select a destination and get dates for all the current events, parades, fairs, and exhibits!

10 natural wonders of the world actually worth visiting, according to travel reviews

A new study looked at unique natural wonders you can’t find anywhere else in some of the most extraordinary places on the planet to rank 10 that are “actually worth a visit.”

Titan Travel — a travel agency that offers escorted tours across the globe — looked into the popularity of world-famous natural wonders on Instagram and TikTok, as well as Google search volumes and Tripadvisor to “reveal which natural wonders of the world are the best,” the company said. Two natural wonders in the United States made the list.

“While plenty of countries offer spectacular man-made sights like the Egyptian Pyramids, Machu Picchu or the Great Wall of China, it's the natural wonders that only a few people will ever get to see in their life that truly fill us with awe,” the company stated.

United airlines' international flights: what to expect onboard.

United Airlines longest flight is an 8,440-mile flight between San Francisco and Singapore.

  • United Airlines is the world’s 5th-largest airline by passenger numbers.
  • United operates a global network from its eight hubs worldwide.
  • The carrier offers 4 classes of service: business, premium plus, economy plus, and basic economy.

Regarded as being one of the big three United States carriers, United Airlines can trace its roots all the way back to 1926. It was founded by American aviation pioneer Walter Varney, who was awarded one of the first contracts to deliver mail between Pasco, Washington, and Elko, Nevada, with a stopover in Boise, Idaho.

In 1927, Boeing founder William Boeing was awarded a mail contract and, in 1929, merged his company with Pratt & Whitney to form the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation. Following a five-company merger, Walter sold the Varney Air Group to United Aircraft and Transport in 1930, and three years later, the company name was changed to United Air Lines in 1933.

United Airlines is the world's fifth-largest airline by passenger numbers

From its headquarters in the 110-story Willis Tower in Chicago, Illinois, United Airlines has become the world’s third-largest airline by revenue and the 5th by passengers carried. From its eight hubs, United Airlines operates a global network of flights, with its longest flight being the 8,440-mile flight between San Francisco and Singapore.

United Airlines eight hubs are at:

  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is United’s hub for the Midwest and its largest hub overall.
  • Denver International Airport (DEN) is United’s hub for the Rocky Mountain region.
  • Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport (GUM) in Guam is United’s hub for flight routes in the Pacific region. Despite being a key hub, Guam has no direct flights to the mainland USA.
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas, is United’s hub for the Southern United States and the primary gateway to Latin America.
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is United’s secondary hub for the West Coast and gateway to Asia and Australia.
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey is United’s primary hub for the East Coast and gateway to Europe.
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is United’s primary hub for the West Coast and gateway to Asia and Australasia.
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Virginia is United’s secondary hub for the East Coast and gateway to Europe and Africa.

United Airlines fleet

According to the aviation data and statistics website ch-aviation , the United Airlines fleet contains 952 planes comprised of the following aircraft:

United Airlines classes of service

United Airlines offers passengers four classes of service: business class, premium plus economy plus, and basic economy.

United Airlines business class

UA's Polaris Business class is the carrier's top-tier premium cabin, and it comes with the best amenities, food and drink offerings, and the most comfort. Passengers traveling business with United Airlines can use the premier access lanes when checking in and the priority line when going through security. Customers are entitled to two checked bags with no fee and priority handling, which means your luggage will be the first to show up on the baggage carousel.

A business class ticket on a United Airlines international flight gives you access to their exclusive United Polaris lounges, where you can relax, enjoy a meal, and freshen up in a shower suite. When you arrive at the gate, you have group one boarding, which means the only passengers who will board before you are people with disabilities and active serving members of the United States military.

Once onboard, you have Polaris class seating configured in a 1-2-1 layout with direct aisle access. Your lay-flat seat has a large in-flight entertainment screen and plenty of power sockets and storage. All United Airlines business class passengers receive a complimentary amenity kit, noise-reducing headphones, a bottle of water, and Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, which includes a memory foam pillow.

After takeoff, United Airlines flight attendants offer a drinks service followed by a meal from the Polaris menu. The Polaris menu features dishes from around the globe and is served with mixed nuts, a salad, bread, and a made-to-order ice cream sundae for dessert. All drinks are complimentary to passengers flying business class, and depending on the length of the flight, there may be a second meal service.

United Premium Plus

Available on all United Airlines widebody aircraft used for international flights, United premium plus seats are meant to be a bridge between business class and economy. United premium plus passengers get two free checked bags and the following benefits.

  • Access to the fast check-in lane
  • Exclusive TSA security lane
  • Priority boarding
  • Priority bag handling

5 Things You Need To Know About United's Inflight Entertainment Offering

Configured in a 2-2-2 layout, premium plus passengers get a larger seat than standard economy with more of a recline and a larger inflight entertainment screen. premium plus passengers also receive an amenity kit and noise-reducing headphones. Also, like in business class, all wine, beer, and spirits are free.

United Economy Plus

Unlike the first two classes of service, economy plus does not have fast checking and priority boarding. When flying internationally, you are allowed to have one piece of checked luggage for free.

Configured in the same 3-3-3 layout as standard economy seating with a width of 17.3 inches. Economy plus is better because you get an extra inch of recline and six more inches of legroom. You do not get any other extras and receive the same meals that are served to basic economy passengers.

Basic Economy

United Airlines basic economy has nine abreast seats configured in a 3-3-3 layout. The seats have a 17.3-inch width and a recline of three inches. Basic economy passengers flying internationally get one piece of free checked luggage if flying between the United States, Asia, Africa, and Australia. If you are flying between the United States and Europe, United charges $60 for the first bag and $100 for the second. Food on United Airlines international flights includes a complimentary three-course meal with salad, bread, a main course, and dessert. Beer, wines, soft drinks, juices, tea, and freshly brewed coffee are complimentary.

The 15 Best Tour Operators in 2022

These are the companies Travel + Leisure readers trust to provide them with travel expertise and memorable experiences.

united world travel reviews

Note: If you’re looking for our most recent recommendations, check out the 2023 list of our favorite tour operators .

When it comes to an itinerary, Travel + Leisure readers want more than a string of photo opportunities — and the right tour operator makes all the difference in creating a trip of a lifetime versus one that simply checks off a list of sights. This year, our readers were especially drawn to companies that utilize local expertise and experience to thoughtfully design trips that will entertain as well as inspire.

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey , T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated tour operators and safari outfitters based on their staff and guides, itineraries and destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and overall value.

The top picks were noted for their deep knowledge of destinations and guides who "go the extra mile." One reader who has been traveling for more than five decades said a trip with Classic Journeys (No. 2) was the "very best" they had experienced. Others noted attention to pandemic safety details, while one who went to Norway was charmed by a "wonderful surprise dinner in Bergen out on the water that was fantastic."

Tour operators that seamlessly navigated the logistics of a trip also came out on top. Quasar Expeditions (No. 9) was noted "for really planning out every detail" so that "all you have to do is show up and have a great time." Meanwhile, of TCS World Travel (No. 10), a guest said: "You never lift a finger and just spend your time actually exploring the destination." They even added that they "learned so much" along the way.

Among the five companies on this year's list that weren't on last year's were two women-only tour operators that cater to travelers of all ages. AdventureWomen (No. 14) has multiday tours designed by women from Bhutan to Yellowstone National Park, while Explorer Chick (No. 15) has everything from day trips — like glassblowing in Baltimore and cave rappelling in St. Louis — to full itineraries in Machu Picchu and the Galápagos. One reader said her Everest Base Camp trip with AdventureWomen was filled with "like-minded women" who "bonded so well," while another said she felt it was a "safe tour group for women."

No matter which tour they chose, readers were most taken by the people they met along the way, as one said of Trek Travel (No. 13): "By the end of the trip, a group of strangers felt like longtime friends." Find out which other companies round out the list of the best tour operators below.

1. DuVine Cycling + Adventure Co.

A tour with DuVine goes far beyond just riding a bike — it's a way to really see the character of a destination. Case in point: even those who say they're not necessarily cycling fans have been converted. That's part of what helped the tour operator — which runs trips in Europe, the U.S., Latin America, and Africa — skyrocket from No. 14 last year to this year's top spot. Its "top-notch biking equipment" and "challenging but doable itineraries" didn't hurt either. One reader was especially taken by a guide picking figs off of a local tree in Puglia for an extra energy boost during a tough climb, as well as another guide singing to the group after dinner. As another reader put it simply: "They exceed your expectations."

How to book a sailing through United Cruises

Ashley Kosciolek

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

Getting frequent flyer miles for a cruise? It might sound weird, but it's a thing. If you're a points and miles aficionado, cruising is another way you can rack up miles. And if you're a cruise nut but haven't yet ventured into the world of points and miles, there's no better time than now to capitalize on one of your favorite ways to travel.

For an upcoming sailing, I reserved a cabin via United Cruises — a booking channel that allowed me to earn MileagePlus points for my voyage while saving a bit of money on my cabin.

Here, I'll explain the ins and outs of booking through United Cruises to earn (or burn) points on your next cruise vacation.

Why I chose United Cruises

I'm new to the points and miles game. Due to 2021's cruise industry restart, I found myself sailing quite a bit — and flying United to get there — which meant I achieved airline status for the first time ever and earned a ton of miles. Now I'm hooked on earning and have been making sure to rake in miles whenever I can. That's where United Cruises comes in.

I chose United Cruises because United is my airline of choice, I have status within the MileagePlus program, and the opportunity to earn extra miles was enticing.

I should also add that I recently became a proud cardholder of The Platinum Card® from American Express, which has a Cruise Privileges Program that allows cardholders to earn points and offers discounts and onboard credit with certain cruise lines. I originally planned to book through Amex, but I discovered the portal didn't have as much inventory as United Cruises' did. Plus, I wouldn't have earned miles, and I would only have been eligible for the full $300 onboard credit offered by Amex if I had booked a suite — something that wasn't in the budget.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's new cruise newsletter .

How you'll earn miles

The first step to earning miles through a United Cruises booking is to make sure that you're a MileagePlus member. (If you aren't already enrolled, you can sign up at united.com.)

Before booking your cruise through the United Cruises portal, sign in using the link at the top right of the screen. If you're booking over the phone, your agent should ask for your MileagePlus number, so have it readily available. This will make sure any miles earned are credited to your MileagePlus account.

Even when no promotions are in place, United MileagePlus members will receive miles based on cabin type, with 2 miles per dollar spent awarded for inside and ocean view cabins, and 4 miles per dollar given for balconies and suites. (Miles are awarded on the amount of the base fare only; they won't be accrued for taxes or additional purchases, such as Wi-Fi or drink packages.)

If you're a United MileagePlus Visa cardholder, you can earn up to 2 additional miles per dollar spent on travel purchases — including cruises — depending on the type of card you have. United Cruises also frequently runs offers that allow you to earn additional miles for cruise bookings. I've seen promotions offering as many as 10 miles per dollar spent, up to 60,000 miles, for balcony and suite accommodations booked with a MileagePlus credit card via United Cruises.

Miles will post to your account anywhere from six to eight weeks after sailing. Note that, if you book multiple cabins, you will only earn miles for the one in which you're staying. Miles for the other cabins will be awarded to passengers whose names are attached to those rooms. Miles earned through United Cruises also do not count toward elite status with the airline unless you book using one of United's fee-based credit cards.

Another important caveat is that you'll incur a $25 fee per booking for any reservations made through the United Cruises portal or handled by an agent over the phone — something that wasn't disclosed to me when I called. (I noticed the charge on my bill after the fact, but it is spelled out on the check-out page for online bookings.)

For my balcony cabin booking, which cost $2,146, I'll be earning 4 miles per dollar — a total of 8,584 miles. I also qualified for a special promotion that earned me 10,000 additional miles for booking a balcony room. Based on TPG's valuations at the time of publication, those 18,584 miles are worth about $206. That means I still come out ahead, even after the $25 fee.

Other reasons to book through United Cruises

united world travel reviews

If you've already got a ton of United miles burning a hole in your pocket, you can redeem them for the purchase of a cruise. If you have enough, you can cover the entire cost with miles, or you can use a combination of miles and cash. However, use caution when redeeming airline miles for a cruise.

"In general, cruises are a better way to earn airline miles than to redeem airline miles," says Katie Genter, a TPG senior writer. "So, it's typically best to redeem airline miles for flights, not cruises. But, you may occasionally get good value when redeeming miles to book an airline vacation package that includes a cruise.

"It's best to compare the cost in miles to a comparable paid rate to calculate your redemption rate. Then, compare that redemption rate to TPG's valuation of the airline miles. If you're getting a significantly lower redemption rate than TPG's valuation, it's typically best to avoid that redemption.

"Of course, there are exceptions. For example, you may have more miles than you can use for flights. Or, you may be short on cash and need to redeem miles to take a well-needed vacation."

A United representative told me that an exchange rate is applied to the dollar price of the cruise to get the mileage price. That means the mileage price for each cabin type can vary across cruise ships and sail dates.

In addition to earning and burning miles, you can take advantage of discounts and perks like reduced or waived deposits, onboard credit and free bottles of wine, offered by some cruise lines. Plus, World Travel Holdings -- the agency that backs United's cruise bookings -- offers a 110% guarantee that you won't find a better deal elsewhere at the time of booking, and you'll have access to 24/7 support if anything goes wrong during your sailing. (That's what the $25-per-booking fee is for.)

How to find and book a cruise through United Cruises

There are two ways to book a cruise via United Cruises. You can call an agent by dialing 800-211-2039, or you can make the booking on your own using the online portal.

After navigating to the United Cruises website , use the "Cruise Search" box to narrow down your choices by where you'd like to go, when, for how long and with which cruise line and ship.

Once the search results appear, browse the listings, noting any deals that look promising. To learn more about a sailing, click the "View Itinerary" button next to it. On the next page, in addition to the itinerary, you'll be able to review information about the ship, including dining and entertainment options.

If you've decided you'd like to go ahead with the booking, scroll down on the page, find the sailing date (noted in the far-left column) that best fits your schedule, and click the "Select" button for that row.

Next, you'll be taken through the site's five-step reservation process.

Guest options

In this section, you'll indicate how many people are in your party and enter your mailing zip code to see if you qualify for any local promotions. You can indicate if you're a repeat cruiser or if anyone in your party qualifies for a senior citizen discount. The form will also ask if you'd like to sign up for emails or use future cruise credits from your cruise line to pay for all or part of your voyage.

united world travel reviews

In step two, you'll choose the type of cabin you'd like. On this page, you'll find information about what each room style provides, along with introductory pricing for the least expensive cabin in each category. When you find the room type for you, click the "Select" button under the price. Before choosing, take care to read the fine print, as some cabins have quirks (balconies with obstructed views, for example).

Here, you'll select the exact cabin you want. Use the provided deck plan to see which cabin locations are available, and click the "Select" button next to the room number you've chosen.

Guest details

united world travel reviews

In this step, enter the name, birth date, country of residence, gender and contact information for yourself and each member of your travel party. This is also the section where you'll select your dining preferences — pick a fixed dining time or choose flexible dining, where applicable.

Complete booking

united world travel reviews

On the final tab, you'll be shown a summary of the cruise you're booking, along with a final price, broken down by base fare and port charges, and taxes and fees. You'll be asked if you'd like to purchase travel protection for your sailing. (I advise purchasing a third-party travel insurance plan for your cruise instead.) On the final page, you'll be asked to enter your payment information, billing address and select whether you'd like to pay a deposit or the entire amount due.

After your booking is completed, you'll be taken to a confirmation page, and a receipt will be sent to the email address you entered when making the purchase.

Is it worth it?

The platform is mostly straightforward. It can get confusing when you're trying to find a specific room type or cabin number (such as accessible cabins or ones near the elevators), or if you're trying to avoid a specific type of accommodation or location on the ship (such as rooms near the noisy kids club or directly under the pool deck). I ended up calling the customer service number to have an agent book for me over the phone.

united world travel reviews

Even if you're not a MileagePlus member, you can still book through United Cruises. You'll receive whichever non-miles-related deals and promotions are available at the time, along with the support of a dedicated cruise agent if you need help at any stage of booking or travel.

However, Summer Hull, TPG's director of content, advises that 2 miles per dollar generally isn't a great return. So, although United Cruises is one way to price sailings, you'll want to check other avenues to make sure you're getting the best value — especially if you're booking an inside or ocean view cabin. Absent a sizeable mileage bonus of some sort, it might not be worth it, and you could be better off booking through a travel agent who doesn't charge a fee and who can snag you some extras like onboard credit.
