EvaResto T1/Beetle & Ghia 'Long travel' ball joints - Full Set.

A necessity when excessively lowering or lifting your T1 car, or fitting up air suspension. Our Long travel joints don’t ‘lock out’ as early as some Reproduction joints, allowing more safe suspension travel.

We got tired of the awful quality ‘long travel’ joints peddled by other suppliers, so set about exclusively supplying top quality joints, that work right and travel as expected.

These are OEM ball joints, made to the original VW design, and as a result are top quality, and have a long travel range that exceeds that of other types we've tried. 

kit consists of 2x upper Ball Joints and 2x lower Ball Joints. Supplied with boots and clips. 

Professional installation must be carried out, with the notches and alignment of the ball joint set as per manufacturer standard.

Well I have a haynes manual, and a bentley, Ive also looked up the how2s available here. They are mostly good, and the whole job as listed on here is pretty simple. I highly suggest it. The manuals are fairly worthless in this regard, offering little more then 'remove and replace' as help. Now something is missing in the all the guides I can find. That drive axle is within an inch of the top of the ball joint top nut, the one that is normally a 'castle' nut. How is one supposed to torque that to the specified 33 lbs? I have a torque wrench but its a socket type, is there some sort of open ended torque wrench that Ive never seen? ..are you officially supposed to have removed the drive axle for such a simple job? ..do most people just make it 'tight'? I did it last weekend, but couldnt get the thing very tight as the joint kept slipping, even if I put a jack on it to add some pressure. So Ill likely be redoing it this next week. ..Id appreciate any advice on how to get it right this time.  

Well, it sounds like you are already past this part, but I would have shadowed the ball joint placement with spray paint, so the new one would line up exactly where the old one was so a front end alignment is not needed. There is a slight adjustment in the ball joint mounting that allows for some camber adj. Otherwise, use old fashioned tactics for footpounds.. use a 1 foot wrench, the pressure at 33 is equal to the amount of force needed to lift a 33 pound weight. smaller wrench, more, larger, less. It's all relative when there's a cotterpin involved. Oh, and make sure that the tapered seat of both the hub and joint are both clean. makes for a nice tight seat and less chance of spin. dirt and grease are the enemy.. On my last job, I had to put the wheel back on and use the full weight of the vehicle to get it to seat tight.

Long travel Ball joints, Worth It?

I had to replace the boots on all four of the ball joints on my beetle today, and whilst I was doing it, I noticed that every single one was out of alignment. I have had a couple done by "garages" that obviously didn't know how to fit them. within the next couple of weeks, I will be working in a place with access to 50 ton presses, so I thought I would replace the lot. So, the question is, are long travel ones worth fitting? yes the car is lowered, puma beam and dropped spindles, but the beam is set to its highest setting. All the long travel ones I've seen are manufactured by empi, which doesn't fill me with confidence, or should I just buy some "german made" from my local GSF. Ta!  

I think you are right to be cautious of the Empi long travel ball joints. I had a set fitted with some CB drop spindles but they were way too tight. I hoped they would loosen with time / distance but I gave up and replaced them with Meyle. Instant improvement and steering I could actually turn. Stirlingmoz  

If the beam is on it's highest setting, no need for long travel imho This is confirmed if the other, incorrectly fitted ones haven't worn out.
