OVERVIEW: Inverdoorn Big 5 Private Game Reserve is just under 2.5 hours’ drive from Cape Town, in the malaria-free Ceres Karoo. The reserve is also home to a successful cheetah conservation project and has made a significant contribution to sustaining the biodiversity of the region.

The 10 000 hectare private game reserve offers luxurious Big 5 safaris for overnight guests. All members of the Big 5 – the elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and the elusive leopard – are represented at Inverdoorn. The wildlife is thriving and during your safari you may come across herds of eland, gemsbok and zebra, or hippos wallowing in the dam. The rhinos are a distinct highlight at Inverdoorn.

In 2012 Inverdoorn became a luxury Big five safari destination, after the introduction of elephants onto the reserve, accompanying the lion, rhino, African buffalo and the elusive leopard. The cheetah rescue and rehabilitation centre was founded in 2001 and is home to a great number cheetah.

Together with a profusion of wildlife which includes zebras, hippos, giraffes, wildebeest and springbok, our guests are sure to have an unforgettable safari experience.

Getting there

The reserve is a 2.5-hour drive from Cape Town on scenic highways. Drive from Cape Town to Ceres on the N1 highway, turning onto the R43. Then take the R46 past Ceres. Inverdoorn is 60km outside of Ceres on the R356.

Scheduled charter flights and helicopter transfers from Cape Town on request. Air transfers are weather dependent.

The 4-star Lodge Rooms are offered in 3 separate lodges each with its own charm. All lodges are in close proximity to all facilities.

Family lodge rooms are offered in three separate lodge buildings and provide a basic and comfortable overnight safari stay for easy, budget sensitive and family travellers.

There are 7 Tankwa chalets, each sleeping 2 adults. They each have a quaint Karoo garden with a "stoep" (verandah) for relaxation.

The Inverdoorn Cheetah Conservation programme is based at the Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve – 2 and a half hours drive from Cape Town. The project was founded in 2001 and have since become a core function within Inverdoorn’s Big 5 safari tourism operation.

The reserve has made a significant contribution to sustaining the biodiversity of the region. Inverdoorn is also home to the successful cheetah conservation centre, where our guests meet and learn more about cheetahs at the reserve. 

There are 14 cheetahs that have been rescued by Cape Cheetah. Many of them, such as Banzi and Nushka, have heartwarming – and heartbreaking stories. A rehabilitation and breeding program is underway under the guidance of an Ethics Committee headed up by Chris Mecer, founder of Campaign Against Canned Hunting. Guests are able to see the Cheetah in an environment that does not impact negatively on the cheetah, no touching or human imprinting.

Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve offers excellent wildlife encounters surrounded by an impressive landscape of succulent gardens, the sprawling Klein Karoo, and wooded Acacia. Along with the Big 5’s elephants , buffalos , lions , leopards , and rhinos , safari-goers can expect to spot cheetah, giraffes, red lechwe, numerous antelope species, and hippos. The lodge is also home to an ostrich farm. 

Additionally, the Game Reserve has made concerted efforts in sustaining the biodiversity of the area. As such, the Reserve is home to a cheetah conservation centre, where guests can learn about this Big Cat and enjoy the opportunity to watch the cheetahs run at speeds of 120km/h.

Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve is ideal for game viewing throughout the year. Between June and August, travellers can expect low temperatures, so they should pack accordingly. Furthermore, spring brings about vibrant landscapes and mild temperatures, while the summer months between December and February can get very hot.

The seven chalets boast four stars and are ideal for couples or singles sharing. The four luxury chalets, boasting five stars, have communal roof terraces for guests to relax on and enjoy the breathtaking views. The opulence of the exclusive, five-star Ambassador Suite offers a private game drive, as well as a private roof terrace. Driving through the winding glorious mountain passes and vineyards will bring you to Inverdoorn, which is a mere two and half hour drive from Cape Town. Guests are able to drive themselves or arrange transfers through the lodge. The area is malaria free, assuring you comfort and ease as you take in the best that nature has to offer.

Family friendly: Baby-sitting facilities are available for R50.00 per hour. Please note that children under the age of four are not allowed on the safaris.

Inverdoorn Game Lodge

Inverdoorn is a family-run private game reserve found in the heart of a typically open Karoo landscape. The camp is set amid large Eucalyptus trees with the rooms positioned around a cactus garden and main outdoor dining area. There is a small tortoise pen within the camp where large leopard tortoises can be observed in their contented meandering. The small, white walled chalets are basically furnished and comfortable. The food is terrific – South African style with a touch of French flair. The camp is also open to day visitors and can become quite busy in the summer months. The Karoo landscape is quite distinctive and remarkably beautiful whilst massive night skies are awe inspiring and untouched by any light pollution.

• Inverdoorn’s safari vehicles are equipped with canvas roofs and are therefore not weather dependent. 
• In the unlikely event of wet weather, guests will be provided with blankets and ponchos for the duration of their safari game drive.
