India to tour Zimbabwe for 5 T20Is in July
- 6th Feb, 2024
India will travel to Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series in July, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Zimbabwe Cricket announced.
The series is scheduled to take place from 6 to 14 July 2024 in Harare. The tour was confirmed after successful discussions between the two Boards about solidifying bilateral ties and providing more opportunities.
Talking about the forthcoming tour, BCCI Honorary Secretary Mr Jay Shah said: “The BCCI has always played a pioneering role in contributing to the global cricketing community. We understand that it is a period of rebuilding for Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe Cricket needs our support at this juncture.
“Our steadfast commitment to touring and supporting fellow member boards aligns with our principle of bringing about a positive transformation within the cricketing landscape. The BCCI will do its best to make bilateral cricket stronger and commercially more viable.
“Our pledge to support Zimbabwe Cricket reflects a shared vision for the growth and prosperity of cricket on the international stage.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, ZC Chairman Mr Tavengwa Mukuhlani said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting India for a T20I series in July in what will be our biggest international attraction at home this year.
“The game of cricket has always immensely benefited from India’s influence and dedication to the sport, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the BCCI for committing to tour Zimbabwe once again.
“The significance and magnitude of this tour cannot be over-emphasised, especially as it is coming at a time we are working round the clock to re-establish ourselves as a force to reckon with at the highest level of the game.”

After away tours against Ireland, England and the West Indies in the last two months, India are in Zimbabwe for three ODIs in Harare as part of the Cricket World Cup Super League.
Led by the returning KL Rahul - who takes the captaincy reins in Rohit Sharma's absence - India are in strong ODI form, winning five of their last six matches before taking on Zimbabwe.
The hosts are in a rhythm of their own ahead of the clash with India, claiming a 2-1 series triumph over Bangladesh, though are missing the likes of Craig Ervine and Blessing Muzarabani. In a boost for the side, Sean Williams is available for selection.
India too are missing a handful of players, though the series brings opportunity for several players eager to make an impression.
Ruturaj Gaikwad could well make his ODI debut, in a top-order likely to also include Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill. Deepak Chahar, Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan are just a few on the bowling side also looking to make a mark.
The top seven teams in the table at the end of the Super League automatically qualify for the 2023 World Cup, along with hosts India. The remaining teams will have to go through qualifiers in order to make it for the marquee event next year.
LATEST CWCSL STANDINGS
India currently occupy the seventh spot with 79 points from 12 games. On the other hand, Zimbabwe are a spot off the bottom in 12th with 35 points from 15 games.
Though it would be a Herculean effort, a 3-0 win over India could see them breathing down the necks of Australia, who are 8th in the standings and are currently occupying the last qualifying spot.
It's India's first tour of Zimbabwe since 2016, and the men in blue have happy memories of their last tour, where they whitewashed the hosts 3-0 in the ODI series.

Dhawan to lead, Washington, Kuldeep and Chahar return: India announce squad for Zimbabwe tour
The men in blue will tour zimbabwe for a three-match odi series in harare, starting august 18..
Shikhar Dhawan, who recently led India to a 3-0 clean sweep in West Indies, was confirmed as captain again as India announced squad for the three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe later this month. The 15-member squad picked by the All-India Senior Selection Committee featured three new names from the one that recently played in the Caribbean. Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Deepak Chahar return back to the India mix after recovering from injuries.
Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja , Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh who played the ODI series against West Indies, weren’t included for the squad that will travel to Zimbabwe. The squad, as expected, misses big names such as captain Rohit Sharma , Virat Kohli , Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant , Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya. Even then, the lineup of players under veteran Shikhar Dhawan looks a strong one.
Shubman Gill, who won his first player of the series award against the West Indies, retained his spot in the side.

All three matches in Zimbabwe will be played at the Harare Sports Club, with the first ODI scheduled for Monday, August 18.

Regular players like all-format skipper Rohit Sharma, senior batsman Virat Kohli, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not be part of Team India for the ODI series. Rahul Tripathi has finally been rewarded for his impressive outing in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The star batter received his maiden India call-up in the Indian ODI team. Tripathi was named in India's T20 squad for Ireland tour and first T20 against England earlier but he didn't play a single match for national team. Another player who is making return to team India is Washington Sundar. The all-rounder is currently playing County Cricket in England. Putting an end to all speculations and media reports, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul both are not named for Zimbabwe tour. Some media reports had suggested that the duo will be part of team India for Zimbabwe ODIs.

Another early finish. Series done and dusted for India as they claim an unassailable 2-0 lead. Over to Monday now, maybe a chance for the likes of Shahbaz Ahmed and Rahul Tripathi to claim their maiden India caps. Join us then, it’s a wrap for now from me Saurabh, on behalf of Kumar, Akshay and Siva.
KL Rahul: (On whether he was nervous during the chase) Not really, we do bat deep. Good for some of the guys to get time in the middle. I do need some time in the middle, obviously playing this series was important for me to take some runs and confidence away, unfortunately didn't work out today. They do have some quality bowlers, I saw that in the previous series against Bangladesh as well. The bowlers came strong at us, a good challenge for us. We are here to play good cricket and win, every opportunity is an honour, so we want to go out there next time also to enjoy ourselves and put a good performance. Wherever we travel, we get good support from Indian fans, very thankful for their support.
Sanju Samson, Man of the Match: How much ever time you spend in the middle, it makes you feel good. Even more special to do it for the country. I did take three catches, but I missed a stumping. Really enjoying keeping and batting. I think they (Indian bowlers) were bowling really good areas, a lot of balls came nicely to me.
Regis Chakabva: I think we had a really good fight. Last few games we struggled to pick up early wickets and we managed to do that. Today we were short of a few runs. We were up for the challenge, the bowlers hit their lengths really well.
14:54 Local Time, 12:54 GMT, 18:24 IST: India did break some sweat today but they were in control. Another early finish is a testament to that. They bowled well and restricted Zimbabwe to 161. And once that was done, the batters just had to complete the formalities. Rahul promoted himself but fell early. Dhawan and Gill looked sublime once again before gifting their wickets away. And that was the only blip as far as India were concerned. Samson and Hooda held their nerve to build a 50+ partnership but the latter fell just a few runs short of the final score. Hang around for the presentations..
