Andy Squyres is a singer-songwriter born and raised in the mountains of Northern California but after moving east in the late 1990’s, he’s spent the last few decades carving songs out of the foothills of his North Carolina home. Heavily influenced by the poetics of Leonard Cohen, Squyres leans heavily into the lyrical tradition of artists like Bob Dylan, The National, and John Mark McMillan, having a passion for words that are equally worshipful and honest.

His live show is ache on display, a joyful protest, at once humorous and tragic, weaving together songs and tales of heartbreak and hope, making audiences laugh and sometimes cry while feeling the wonder of the sorrows and joys of life.

In 2016 he released his album Cherry Blossoms and most recently in 2021 he released his album Poet Priest which writer and journalist Brett McCracken named the album of the year stating that "If people claim Christian music is all schmaltz that sugarcoats reality, they haven’t listened to Andy Squyres. The Charlotte-based singer-songwriter makes beautiful, brutal music that wrestles with grief, pain, and the struggles of faith."

In 2021 and 2022 he also released books called Poet Priest Vol.1 and Poet Priest Vol.2, respectively. They are each compilations of essays about being content with living a small life, faithful life.

The Killers have played ‘Andy, You’re A Star’ for the first time in seven years at their surprise intimate gig in New York City – watch fan-filmed footage below:

The band unveiled their last-minute concert just days ago, which was to take place on the same day as their 20th anniversary for their seminal debut album ‘Hot Fuss’ .

Now, The Killers have played their concert at the 500-capacity Bowery Ballroom, which saw them perform ‘Andy, You’re A Star’ for the first time since 2018. ‘Andy, You’re A Star’ originally appeared as the sixth track from ‘Hot Fuss’.

Not only that, the Las Vegas band performed several ‘Hot Fuss’ classics including ‘Mr Brightside’, ‘Somebody Told Me’, and ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’.

The Bowery Ballroom show is a warm-up gig for their upcoming UK and Ireland tour later this June, which will see the band stop off at London’s O2 Arena for a whopping six dates. Check out all dates below and get any remaining tickets here :

NME  spoke to frontman Brandon Flowers last year , with Flowers sharing the news of his upcoming solo album. “I’m making a solo record right now! I almost had it wrapped up,” he said. “The goal has always been to get all four original members to take ownership and be proud of what we’re doing, but it’s so difficult with all four of us living in different cities. It’s not impossible. It’s weird to be talking to you about it, but I’d definitely like to do that.”

He also reflected on the legacy of ‘Hot Fuss’ twenty years on, telling us: “[The Killers] were always little different from the other Vegas bands back then because I noticed that there was this competition and rivalry between local bands. I wasn’t thinking about them – I was thinking about The White Stripes ,  The Strokes , and  Oasis . I didn’t allow myself to get to  U2  just yet, but I asked myself, ‘What is it that these bands are doing and why are they not still in their hometown?’ That’s what set us apart quite early on.

“We were different, and we were ambitious. Ambition can be seen as an ugly thing to some people but it has served us well. We were able to persevere and it’s kind of unbelievable.”

We also reviewed their performance at Reading Festival , deeming it worthy of four stars: “It’s a fitting showstopper of showmanship to a set that could run as a Vegas residency for the rest of time, but for tonight The Killers were very much ours. The ticker-tape and added pomp was the cherry on top, but sometimes all you need is a little bit of ‘Glamorous Indie Rock And Roll’.”

In other news, ‘Mr Brightside’ has overtaken Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ to smash a huge UK singles record.
