Dead Sea tour

With an ongoing history of more than 4000 years there isn’t a city in the world that evokes so much emotion, embracing so many people, as Jerusalem. The only place in the world that is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

David established it as the capital of Israel and his son Solomon built the temple on Mount Moriah, where Jews and Christian believe that Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac and where Muslims believe that Muhammad ascended to heaven to receive the prayer of Islam.

The lowest place on earth, t he Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. It was a place of refuge for King David and one of the world’s first health resorts for Herod the Great.

Private Masada and the Dead Sea Tour from Ashdod (Negev Desert)

  • Discover Masada, Israel's most impressive archaeological site, exploring ancient ruins like Herod's palace and engineering marvels.
  • Experience the sensation of effortlessly floating on the Dead Sea, a natural sea renowned for its high salt and mineral content.
  • Witness the Qumran Caves where the ancient Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Hurry, as spots fill quickly!

?

Thousands of years and millions of memories - that's what you'll experience when you visit some of the most important religious sites in the world during this private excursion to Masada and the Dead Sea.

After meeting your professional guide at the pier in Ashdod, you will set off on the approximately 2-hour drive through the Negev desert and descend 3,600 feet toward the Dead Sea - the lowest point on earth!

First, you will visit Masada, the most spectacular ancient archaeological site in Israel. You will ascend by cable car (not included, approximately $24 US per person) to this mountaintop fortress built by Herod the Great. Explore the magnificent ancient ruins including Herod's three-tiered palace, the synagogue, the baths, the defending walls and the water cisterns that are still considered an engineering feat today.

After a morning of extraordinary vistas, travel to the Dead Sea where you will have time for lunch on your own (not included) at a seaside resort. Use some additional free time to experience the exquisite sensation of floating effortlessly upon the buoyant waters of the Dead Sea. With more salt and minerals than any other body of water in the world, the Dead Sea is claimed to be a natural health and beauty spa. You may also wish to indulge in one of the local "treatments" being sold using the minerals from the sea.

Reboarding your transportation, you will travel along the shores of the Dead Sea to arrive at the point from which the Qumran Caves are clearly visible. It was here in 1947 that a Bedouin shepherd boy discovered the famous Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest known biblical manuscripts in the world.

Departing Qumran, ascend the Judean Hills to the north, where you will see Jericho before traveling back to the ship. The impact of these remarkable sites will remain with you for a lifetime.

Please note: This tour includes vehicle transportation and guide only. Lunch and entrance fees, including the entrance to the cable car in Masada fortress (not included, approximately $24 US per person), are not included in the price of this tour. Crowds are to be expected. Due to traffic and/or crowds at the sites, the tour itinerary may be altered in an attempt to avoid delays. All sites mentioned above will be visited, however, tour times are approximate due to crowds and traffic.

Vehicles available for this tour accommodate groups of up to 45 guests maximum. Groups with more than 22 guests may be accommodated upon request. Please take this information into consideration when booking.

Traveler Reviews

We had an AMAZING experience on this tour! Our guide was waiting for us when we got off the boat and was very easy to understand. She provided a lot of history and context and was conscious of the heat and did the walk through Jerusalem "backwards" to maximize the shade and make it easier for an elderly lady that was in our small group....so we walked mainly downhill against the other tours who were all following the same path uphill. We were never rushed but nor were we allowed to dawdle so we were able to make the most of our time in the day. The Dead Sea was fantastic. We got to have a beer at the lowest bar in the world and it is Amazing how good your skin feels after a good soak and mud covering. Truly this day was the highlight of our week long trip....even with the scorching temperatures. Communication from time of booking all the way to the end of the tour was outstanding. I believe our guides name was May-elle (or something close...long curly brown hair and a lovely bright green shirt). Truly, she was wonderful. Hopefully we will return to Isreal and we will definitely book another tour through this company and recommend it to others. Thank you for a fun and educational day.

We went on two excursions with Guided Tour Israel: Jerusalem and Dead Sea Shore Excursion and Biblical Galilee - full day Christian focused shore excursion. Either way, we loved our experience. The guides were easy to find at the port, very friendly and really good at their explanations throughout the day. We also liked the small group formula which makes it possible to move around more quickly. We loved our days and we recommend a lot!

We had a wonderful time on our tour of Jerusalem and the Dead Sea and our guide Dikla was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable about the country and patiently answered all of our questions. She really made the tour excellent and one that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for visit Jerusalem. She was very accommodating to everyone in our group. Additionally, Leo was very helpful and responsive as we were looking to book our tour - he also quickly responded to emails with the information that we requested. I highly recommend using this company if you are considering a tour of Jerusalem and/or the Dead Sea.

We had a great time. Our guide, Erez, had great energy and explained everything well. Things were a bit rushed, but I think there was no way around that with trying to fit so much in, in just one day with a fair bit of driving involved between the ship and the sites. I would love to go back and spend more time and would definitely trust Erez to take us around to see more things and see the sites in a more in depth manor. He was personable and made us feel like he really cared about each of us, specifically, having a good time.

This company is the best in the business! We had a phenomenal tour with them! They also went above and beyond to locate and return my lost cell phone! Their commitment to customer service is absolutely unmatched! If you are ever in Jerusalem, and want to tour the holy land these are your guys! You will not be disappointed!

We very much enjoyed our 2 tours we just took with Guided Tours of Israel. They have a gem of a tour guide with Ryan. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about Israel. He constantly was checking on our comfort, safety and needs. His stories made these ancient places come alive. I grew up Catholic -going to mass every Sunday-Attending CCD classes and have been baptized, received First Holy Communion and Confirmation but I learned more from Ryan in 2 days than I’ve learned my whole life! We have talked to many others on the ship whose experiences were no where near our fabulous days! From the initial communication with Leo through the entire tour everything was wonderful.

We loved the tour, which was easy to arrange. Leo was always prompt to reply and helpful. Our guide Tal was very knowledgeable and friendly and because the tour consists of a small group of 10-16 persons, we have more time to see things and enjoy the Old City and the Dead Sea. Minivan was very comfortable and the AC was great! If we ever return to Israel we will definitely choose Guided Tours Israel again. Keep up the good work!

Our group had an awesome time on both of our cruise port tours (Ashdod Port and Haifa Port). Merona was very knowledgable about all of the places we visited and made minor adjustments as needed to the schedule to make sure that we got the best experience possible each day. We highly recommend her for future groups. It was a pleasure to be able to do business with a reputable tour company. I appreciated it even more when I got back to the cruise ship and heard another passenger's harrowing tale from doing business with a tour guide he picked up at the port in Ashdod.

The Dead Sea was a waste. We went mid week and there was one cantina open at top of the hill. The facilities on the actual beach were abandoned. Facilities to wash up are completely muddy and hard to walk up. Joseph our tour guide hung out with his buddies and wasted an extra 20 minutes there taking away time in the old city. Keep in mind there are warning signs that if you have high blood pressure you should not go in or if you get any of the water in your mouth you must go to hospital. Also, he did not use audio system so we could not hear him in the busy streets of via de la rosa. He takes you to his friend’s place for lunch, shopping and dates purchases. You feel hustled the entire time. Lastly, he said it was “unsafe” for him to go to station one and two of the cross but that we could if we wanted. Found out the next day from another guide that this was untrue and that he was just lazy. He left little to no time to explore the church of the sepulcher which in my opinion was the highlight. The your may be ok but not with this guide.

This was supposed to be our one time visit to the holy land and the highlight the Christian church of the sepulcher and the Via Dolorosa. Our guide would not allow us to experience the church of the sepulcher which was a big disappointment but would also not take us two the entire Via Dolorosa because he was afraid for his life. He wasted time on on tour at the Dead Sea in my opinion. Highly disappointing and will not ever use Viator again.

Then walk through the Armenian Quarter - famed for its ceramic tiles and pottery - arriving at the Western Wall, the most holy of sites for Jews.  Stroll through the Cardo (a bustling marketplace in Roman times) and into the Christian Quarter, in which a visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a must.  The tour continues with a drive south through the Judean Desert, via Jericho towards the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.  Float in the saline-rich water, slather yourself in black mud and generally relax before being returned to Ashdod rejuvenated.

This private tour of Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, complete with guide, begins with you being picked up at Ashdod Port and driven to one of the world’s most holy cities.  After stopping at the Mount of Olives, giving you the opportunity to take in panoramic views of Jerusalem (including a view of the golden Dome of the Rock) you begin your walk through the Old City.  Stroll through the Armenian Quarter and admire the brightly-coloured ceramic tiles and pottery, and onto the excavated Cardo - a bustling main thoroughfare in Roman times and today full of modern stores.  Continue onto the Western Wall (‘Kotel’ in Hebrew), a site incredibly holy to Jews and the last remaining structure of the Second Temple, destroyed by the Romans in 70AD.  Afterwards, walk in the footsteps of Jesus, along the Via Dolorosa, stopping at the Stations of the Cross,  Step inside the magnificent tChurch of the Holy Sepulchre, the place where Jesus was both executed and buried, and a focal point for Christian pilgrims today. Continue on in your private car, with your guide, to the Dead Sea, passing through the Judean Desert.  As you travel, you will see ancient Jericho in the distance and have the chance to stop for a photo opportunity at the sign stating that you are now below sea level!  Arriving at the Dead Sea, float in its saline-rich waters (so salty you can even read a newspaper!) When you reach the Dead Sea you can enjoy the beach and float in the saline-rich water.  If you choose, you can also take some of the black mud on the shores and use it as a face or body mask - the health benefits are tremendous - or simply relax in the nearby sulphur pools.  After your time relaxing here, you will be driven back to your hotel in Ashdod, feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
